See terms@walmartplus.com this is Matt and Myron the podcast. I'm ready for the football. I've been waiting a long time to this moment.
Myron Metcalf
Time is here. Time is.
Matt Jones
This is the countdown to kickoff on ESPN Radio.
Myron Metcalf
It is final hour here Canada to kickoff on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. We you can give us a shout out to Dr. Pepper. Call in line. We haven't had any calls today because we haven't taken any, but I'd like to talk to you. 888 say ESPN. Maybe you can, if somebody wants, suggest a Halloween costume for me. I haven't picked one out. I tried to get one that's like, relevant, but in election years, everybody wants to do politics and I can't do that. I don't want to do that. So I'm trying to think of something fun, but I haven't been able to think of anything, Myron, because I want to dress up in something good. What do you think?
Matt Jones
I don't do. I don't do Halloween costumes. No. I don't do Halloween costumes.
Myron Metcalf
Like you said.
Matt Jones
No, no, no. They know me. My. No. The light is on and who knows coming.
Myron Metcalf
Who knows you?
Matt Jones
The neighborhood. I have so much great candy. Like, I go, oh, so you're all candy. I go all out, man. I get the real stuff.
Myron Metcalf
What do you buy? Like, what do you. What do you. What are you giving the kids today?
Matt Jones
Like, I'm giving. I'm giving. Kill the kids. The Skittles mix. So there's like Skittles.
Myron Metcalf
Give them the Skittles.
Matt Jones
Skittles. M&M's mix in one bowl, right? That kind of.
Myron Metcalf
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. You take the candy out of the bag and just put it in a bowl.
Matt Jones
It's in packages.
Myron Metcalf
Okay. All right, good. Okay. Do you think you just poured everything into a bowl and let everybody see?
Matt Jones
Do you think I'm a serial killer? What are you talking about? You think I'm a. Think I'm pouring raw Skittles into a bucket and saying, hey, kids, come take a handful.
Myron Metcalf
I know if you did that, I wouldn't allow my kids.
Matt Jones
What do you think? How could you ask me that? What do you think I am? I'm gonna put a bunch of Skittles in a bowl. A black man in my neighborhood and I'm gonna put a bunch of raw Skittles in a bowl so they can come and pick me up that night. Come on, man. No, I keep them in the packages.
Myron Metcalf
You said a black man in your neighborhood does that. What does that mean? You live somewhere outside of your neighborhood, like you live in a different neighborhood.
Matt Jones
Nah, I mean, it's basically just me is all I'm saying. Ain't no.
Myron Metcalf
So you live with white people is what you're saying. I live.
Matt Jones
I live. There's not a ton of diversity here. But.
Myron Metcalf
You don't want to be the black.
Matt Jones
I'd be easy to identify the black man with Skittles in a bowl that left him. That wouldn't be hard to find, right? So I don't.
Myron Metcalf
Honey does not go to the black man with Skittles house on neighbors.
Matt Jones
Come on. I have the easiest suspect to catch in this neighborhood. So It's Skittles and MM's in one bowl. And then, you know, your Hershey Kisses, Baby Ruth, little minibars. You know, those things. In the other one, man, they would say him.
Myron Metcalf
You know what? If you ever. If you ever start your own podcast, Black man with Skittles, I think is a really good name.
Matt Jones
No, I don't think that's a good idea ever. I can't believe you thought I was putting raw candy.
Myron Metcalf
I didn't know it.
Matt Jones
In a bowl.
Myron Metcalf
I just.
Matt Jones
Get out of here, man.
Myron Metcalf
888 say his p. And if you have an idea for a. One person writes. So we have a text machine. Remember, where you can text during the show? People are excited about the podcast. Sunday Mornings with Matt Myron. You can now subscribe on all the services and please do. And one person writes in and goes, matt, Myron, you all rock. I just subscribed to the podcast. I want a promise, though. I will get some Myron Metcalf Med Caffeine. Met Caffeinated hot takes soon.
Matt Jones
You remember that?
Myron Metcalf
Do you have a caffeinated hot take for all the people out here?
Matt Jones
Do you remember how that. When I first introduced Met Caffeinated. We haven't done it in a year.
Myron Metcalf
I don't think it took off. I think, as a matter of fact, because I was.
Matt Jones
I was blocked by the man. So raw Skittles. You're handing out my hot take.
Myron Metcalf
The phrase Raw Skittles.
Matt Jones
My hot take is holiday music should start being played the day after Halloween. So after Halloween, we got to get into the Christmas music like we deserve.
Myron Metcalf
So you would start playing like, hark the Herald Angels sing the Day after Halloween?
Matt Jones
Yes. I think that should be a national trend. I think that's when it should happen. Not after Thanksgiving. That doesn't give us enough Runway. I think we should be doing it right after Halloween.
Myron Metcalf
You want two months of Christmas carols? Yes.
Matt Jones
Yeah, I mean, you know, Thanksgiving is kind of the appetizer to Christmas right there. I think two months worth. And he wonders why med caffeinated takes didn't take off. I bet people. I bet callers would agree with that take. Honestly, I think there are a lot of people who.
Myron Metcalf
First of all, you're gonna have to turn the phone lines on. Eight, eight, eight, say esp. Nick. Are they.
Matt Jones
Pay the bill, man.
Myron Metcalf
Because I know a lot of times we forget to turn them on. Are they.
Matt Jones
They have never been, quote, unquote. I don't even know what that means. They're not on.
Myron Metcalf
I have been on shows before where they forgot to turn the phone lines on. Are they on right now?
Matt Jones
Yes, they're on.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, eight, eight, eight.
Matt Jones
Say provider bill, telephone or something like. Is it a pay phone?
Myron Metcalf
Call the operator, call Sarah and ask her to please plug it in so that we can get 888, say the Eagles. Eagles and the Bengals. I was supposed to go to this game today, by the way. This game was originally scheduled for 4pm and I was going to leave this show and drive up to Cincinnati and go to the game, but then they moved it to 1pm Which I'm not happy about. But the Cincinnati is still a 2 1/2 point favorite. It's the first time meeting between Jalen Hertz and Joe Burrow. They were both selected in the 2020 draft. The Bengals are.03 at home this year, which is the longest home losing streak they've had since 2019, which was before Burrow got there. This is a big game, I think for the Bengals. They could get back to.500 after that poor start. Who you got today in Cincinnati, Matt?
Matt Jones
I think it's a big game for both teams, right? I mean, you got Cincinnati. No T. Higgins, right? He's. He's inactive today and I think his comeback meant a lot to this team in their ceiling. And then you got an Eagles team that. I don't know what to make of bullying the Giants. Like, I don't know what that's worth at the end of the day. It was impressive, but it was also the Giants. So I think this is a key game for both teams, you know, to get some momentum here. Cincinnati, if they shorthanded, can beat the Eagles. I think that means a lot. And I think if Philly can go on the road and win in a very difficult home environment, I think that will mean a lot as well. And obviously they're dealing with some injuries, too. So I think this game matters a lot for both teams.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I do, too. I like Cincinnati here today, actually. I think they've been playing better. The offense is starting to click a little bit, and this just feels like the kind of game they win. This is one of the games. Cincinnati ends up starting poorly. Everybody writes them off, and then they play a game like this and they win. Everybody goes, wait a minute, Cincinnati's back. I think that's the. That's what happens today. Although T. Higgins is out for Cincinnati today. Burrow, by the way, 10 and one in his last 11 games versus the NFC. Kind of like Lamar against the NFC. Joe Burrow is one of those guys. They don't see him a lot. These AFC top quarterbacks really do well when they play NFC teams. I think Joe Burrow continues that today. McDonald is in Oklahoma. DZ, how are you? Hey, man. What's going on, fellas? What's up, McDonald?
Matt Jones
What's your real name?
Myron Metcalf
It's Randy. Last name goes with the DZ, so I just go with McDZ, you know.
Matt Jones
You know what he like, who told.
Myron Metcalf
You your name's Randy? You just be like, call me dz.
Matt Jones
Who certified mcdz, though? I mean, you. Did you certify that for yourself or did somebody else, man? It was my.
Myron Metcalf
My high school football coach. He started calling me McDeezy. Okay, just for the record, Byron, that was an all white Oklahoma high school.
Matt Jones
When they were saying it wasn't no brothers.
Myron Metcalf
Let me be honest. You went to an all white high school, right?
Matt Jones
Did you?
Myron Metcalf
No, no, no, I didn't, man. No. I played football against Felix Jones back in. Back in 05. All right, well, good. All right, well, what do you got for us, McDonald? I gotta say about, you know that Christmas music the day after Halloween, man. Absolutely.
Matt Jones
Give me. That's what I'm talking about, McDonald.
Myron Metcalf
You got to get everybody in that good mood, you know, prepare for the new year. Get that vibe going, man.
Matt Jones
That's all right. Well, that's what I'm talking about.
Myron Metcalf
You have somebody. That's what I'm talking about. What's your favorite Christmas carol, Myron?
Matt Jones
Maybe Old Holy Night Chess.
Myron Metcalf
And he gets mad at me when.
Matt Jones
I said he acts old.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, Holy Night. It's like a hard song to sing.
Matt Jones
Oh, I'm sorry. Maybe you like what Billie Eilish's favorite Christmases. I don't know what you all are doing. I like the old school, you know what I mean? Is that what you want me to like?
Myron Metcalf
Who sings the best version of oh, Holy Night to you?
Matt Jones
Oh, man, that one.
Myron Metcalf
Dude, I can't believe you didn't know. You just picked. Those are the first.
Matt Jones
I know the song, though. Chain us roast on a hope and fire. That's good.
Myron Metcalf
David is in Minnesota. What's up, David?
Matt Jones
Hey, good morning.
Myron Metcalf
So, Myron, you had everyone convinced, right? You said you weren't a serial killer because you weren't, in fact, putting raw pieces of candy in a bowl, suggesting that Christmas carol's right. After Halloween, you're back on the list.
Matt Jones
I'm gonna be looking for you. Hold on a second. That makes me suspicious, David. What's the argument against doing that? Like, what are we doing wrong by extending the window for Christmas music?
Myron Metcalf
Well, we lost it there, I guess. I actually. I actually agree with him there because I could see you with your raw bowl of Skittles and Eminem and Joy to the World is playing outside of your house on Halloween. I can see that being very scary.
Matt Jones
That is like. That's like Home Alone 6, right? That'd be on BET or something, right?
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, it's like. I think it's season two of Dahmer. I think. I think if you were trying to scare people, you know, man sitting. Hang on. You have a man sitting in his porch with Joy to the World playing while he hands out a raw bowl of Skittles.
Matt Jones
No, I am. That is not what happens at my house. I will say there's no Thanksgiving music. Right. So what are we supposed to do? Like, there's no Thanksgiving, so there's nothing. So I blame. I blame people for not having a Thanksgiving soundtrack more than anything.
Myron Metcalf
Luke, I just got, like, a minute. Go ahead. Yeah, y. I. I admire Myron's enthusiasm because a good Christmas song is tough to beat. But I'd like to see it all. Wait until the day after Veterans Day. I call the happy medium between. What day. What day is Veteran Day?
Matt Jones
What day is Veterans Day? November 11th.
Myron Metcalf
Veterans Day. Well, don't act like you do.
Matt Jones
I asked.
Myron Metcalf
Let me be real. You didn't know the specific day Veterans Day was?
Matt Jones
We might. If he's a veteran. I just don't know the day.
Myron Metcalf
What day is it?
Matt Jones
November 11th.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, but why didn't Luke answer that? Because Luke couldn't believe you didn't know. Okay, but you. But you didn't answer It. Okay, well, your guy jumped in beforehand.
Matt Jones
But anyway, it's November 11th in the.
Myron Metcalf
U.S. it's November 11th in Canada. And I think as a nice show respect, if they can back off decorations in stores and music till November 12th, I think that gives them almost two weeks of recognition. Okay. All right. Well, I appreciate the call. Did you know. Let's be on. Did you know what day Veterans Day was, Byron?
Matt Jones
No, I didn't. And I mean, that's, that's okay. It also is like, you know, it kind of changes the vibe a little bit.
Myron Metcalf
Change the vibe.
Matt Jones
Talk about Christmas music. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
I mean this is.
Matt Jones
And then serious McSereous shows up and tries to change the tone a little bit.
Myron Metcalf
It did change the vibe a little bit. I don't know that those two things are connected, by the way, Christmas music and yeah, I don't your veterans. But I will honor the veterans and I will now remember that November 11th.
Matt Jones
How do y'all feel about Kwanzaa? You know what I mean? Like, just like that.
Myron Metcalf
They don't do it in your neighborhood. I know that. Coming up, the Raiders. But they can pull the up. That's next here on ESPN Radio.
Matt Jones
Football Sunday on ESPN Radio.
Myron Metcalf
Baker fakes the hand off and takes it to the end zone himself.
Matt Jones

Hey, I'm Ryan Reynolds. Recently I asked Mint Mobile's legal team if big wireless companies are allowed to raise prices due to inflation. They said yes. And then when I asked if raising prices technically violates those onerous two year contracts, they said, what the are you talking about? You insane, Hollywood. So to recap, we're cutting the price of mint unlimited from $30 a month to just $15 a month. Give it a try@mint mobile.com switch.
Matt Jones
$45 upfront payment equivalent to $15 per month new customers on first three month plan only taxes and fees. Extra speed slower. About 40 gigabytes of detail.
Myron Metcalf
It's too early. It's way too early to be doing the idea that we should start this music after. After Halloween. That's too much. I'm with the caller. Veterans Day feels like a good day. Myron disagrees, but I respect the veterans. And it's countdown to kick off here on ESPN Radio, presented by Progressive Insurance 888. Say ESPN got a couple more people on the line. We'll get to them in just one second. Chiefs and the Raiders. Last year on Christmas Day. Speaking of holidays, the Raiders won the game against Chiefs. Big upset on the Chiefs way to the Super Bowl. But the Chiefs are trying to be the seventh reigning Super bowl champion to start 70 the next year. They've averaged 33 points a game in the Mahomes era, but it's just not been quite the same this year. But they are 6 0. Myron was blasting Mahomes at the beginning of this.
Matt Jones
No, I wasn't.
Myron Metcalf
However, I still think 60 is the point. And Mahomes has some more motivation. You may remember during training camp, the Raiders went viral for playing with a Kermit the Frog puppet that was dressed as Mahomes. Yeah, Mahomes was asked about it during the summer and he said, quote, it'll get handled when it gets handled. Is today the day that Mahomes remembers them going using his voice as Kermit the Frog and tells Oakland, or, excuse me, Las Vegas kind of makes him get payback?
Matt Jones
Yeah, No, I think. I think he takes it personally. Right. I mean, they had a Kermit the Frog frog doll and they were passing around in training camp. I just don't think the Raiders are good enough to do that kind of stuff. Like, you don't get to taunt a goat when you're the Raiders. Right. That's just always going to be a bad idea. And right now they look terrible. You know, I mean, they went out and got, I think, Desmond Ritter off the quarterback free agent market. Things just haven't gone well for Antonio Pierce and this team has been kind of a mess. So I think it was just a bad omen to start with, man. And when Mahomes said it'll be handled when it gets handled. I'd be afraid if I were a Raiders fan because he's coming in with bad intentions, as he should. I mean, the one thing that you can make fun of or that people make fun of is his voice. Right? Like Everything else he's amazing at, but people have knocked him for that. And I'm sure that's probably something that goes back to his childhood, even that he's had to kind of deal with. I wouldn't want to mess with that dude in that situation.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, no, I mean, he. If that's what motivates him. I think sometimes we saw this with Jordan. I think sometimes guys who are awesome look for reasons to motivate themselves. You know, they try to find something somebody didn't believe in them. You know, that kind of thing, which I get. You have to get yourself up for it. I think the discourse around the Chiefs is absolutely hilarious to me. The idea that this is. I mean, it's still the last undefeated team. And we sit and talk about, well, this team did this. I mean, the Ravens, who I think are great, they lost to the Raiders earlier this year. Right. I mean, so why don't we. Why don't we just skip over that and act like it didn't happen? And the Chiefs get punished for not just being 6 and 0, but also they beat the Ravens, the Bengals and the 49ers. I mean, Myron, they've beaten really good teams.
Matt Jones
I mean, who's punishing them, though?
Myron Metcalf
You are. You said, you said you thought Mahomes wasn't playing.
Matt Jones
Well, that's just. That's just fact that he's not playing as well as he has in the past. Like, that's not. That's not knocking them as a six and old team. That's not saying they're not the super bowl favorites. That's just being honest. They have stumbled into victory in more ways than they did in past seasons. That's just.
Myron Metcalf
So who's beating them? Let me read you their schedule here in the next few weeks. But let's see who's going to beat them. They play the Raiders, then they host the Bucs. Are they beating them? No. Then they host the Broncos. They're not beating them. Then they play a game, I'll mention in a second, I hold off on it. Then they go to the Panthers, win. Host the Raiders, win. Host the Chargers, win. Go to the Browns, win. And then they finish the season with Texans, Steelers and Broncos. They also play the Bills. But I look at this schedule, Myron, they could easily finish like 15, 2. As a matter of fact, I would go so far as to say they're almost certain to be the 1 seed unless they collapse because their schedule is not that hard.
Matt Jones
They could go undefeated.
Myron Metcalf
Right.
Matt Jones
And the last team that did that in the regular season didn't win a Super Bowl.
Myron Metcalf
I mean, they do go to Buffalo. That'll be the game that will be the hardest for them. They go to Buffalo.
Matt Jones
Here's the reality. Every game you matter. Doesn't matter. They're going to be the top seed. We know that. They're going to be the team to be going into the playoffs. We know that. My thing is Patrick Mahomes doesn't look the way he's looked in past years. That's just a reality. From the efficiency, numbers, the interceptions, all those things are different. And why does that matter? It matters because a, the receiving corps been all injured, but no team's ever won three in a row. Like, when you think about the history of this league and the great teams we've seen, the great dynasties we've seen. Tom Brady didn't do it, man. So for me, I'm picking against Kansas City because of that history, because of Mahomes not playing to the level that he's played at in the past and all the injuries they've had. Kansas City will not win the Super Bowl. I'm confident saying.
Myron Metcalf
Are you really going to say that?
Matt Jones
I feel confident in saying clip it.
Myron Metcalf
All right. Clip it. Clip it right now. Clip it, Nick. I want that on clip.
Matt Jones
Win a Super Bowl.
Myron Metcalf
Kansas City's not winning. I'm all right. I want that on clip. A couple of things before I get the phones here. One person writes, congratulations on the podcast, guys. This is Mark in Austin. I'm not picking on him. He's the man with raw Skittles and MMs outside his house.
Matt Jones
It's not like that. Go ahead, Tim. He needs out of his bowl.
Myron Metcalf

Myron Metcalf
It is Canada Kickoff here on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. Matt Myron, you know this song? When Jamal Mashburton played at Kentucky, Myron, this is the song they would play because he was the Monster Mash. Do you remember him? He went to the NBA now worth. Gotta be one of the. Gotta be very few. You always hear the stories about people who went in the NBA and blew their money. Go read about former Heat Nick Kentucky player Jamal Mashburn. He went the other way and took his money and made even more money.
Matt Jones
Yeah. He is doing very, very well for himself. Do you know did the monster Mash, you know, wrote that?
Myron Metcalf
I do not. Who is it?
Matt Jones
Old Bobby Pickett is his name.
Myron Metcalf
That's great. You said that like I would like you said that.
Matt Jones
You always ask me about songs. You always ask me about songs. No, but you always ask me about songs and then I don't get it. Right. And you're like, how did you not know? How could you not know? Jimmy Fish Hands wrote this song that I love. You know what I mean?
Myron Metcalf
Should I know that person?
Matt Jones
I'm just saying that's the. It's a good trivia question, that's all. Have you ever.
Myron Metcalf
Is it.
Matt Jones
Someone might ask, okay, what if you do Halloween trivia, man, I'm just trying to help you out, that's all.
Myron Metcalf
Bobby Pickett. All right, so for all of you who go on the Halloween trivia this week, Bobby Pickett. The Giants and the Steelers play Monday Night Football. It's always good to have the Giants and the jets on. Feels like we don't see enough of those two teams. And we get them again this week against Pittsburgh. The giants only had 119 yards last week to the Eagles, their fewest in a game since 1999. The Steelers, on the other hand, have won 21 consecutive home games on Monday Night Football. That's an amazing statistic, isn't it? Steelers won 21 consecutive home games on Monday Night Football. So I look at this and there's absolutely no reason in the world to pick anyone but the Pittsburgh Steelers, coming off those two statistics. Two statistics. So are you going to pick the Steelers?
Matt Jones
I mean, that makes a lot of sense. I mean, I think these two teams are a great example of what happens when you have a quality franchise versus what happens when you have a broken franchise. Because both the Steelers and the Giants have been in those situations in recent years where they took a step back. We're trying to figure out how to get the right quarterback, the right pieces around the quarterback, and they both struggle with that. But I think what you're seeing this year is one team has Mike Tomlin, reliable ownership that allows him to do what he wants to do, and they're stable. And one team has a bunch of guys who kind of look Foolish on Hard Knocks, I think, with the Giants. So I think these were two teams that were headed in the wrong direction who've kind of. One's gotten back to the right spot, and the other one is still struggling. But the Steelers man, Mike Tomlin, you can't give him enough credit for what he's been able to do.
Myron Metcalf
Why do you think. I mean, I agree with everything you just said, but why do you think it's like that in Pittsburgh? I mean, it is. The streak of winning seasons for them is truly an unbelievable thing. And I think it's even more impressive in the post Roethlisberger years, because these quarterbacks, none of them are at a point where they're having success anywhere but there. You got guys like Justin Fields and Russell Wilson coming in. I mean, The Steelers are 5 and 2. Like, it's. It's kind of an amazing thing. 21 consecutive home game wins on Monday Night Football. I mean, I think, like, you know, something like 12 of those are in the. In the last few years. It's. It's an amazing season. Why do you think it's like that in Pittsburgh?
Matt Jones
It is amazing. I think Pittsburgh is closer to a great college program just in terms of the stability. You know what I mean? Like, when a guy has been there as long as Mike Tomlin has been there, everything's already in place. The system, the culture. You just got to come in and, you know, apply yourself to that. Right. It's not like a new coach, new system every two or three years like all these other NFL teams are dealing with. So there's just a legacy in history there because of how long he's been with that team. And it just makes it easier, I think, to just kind of insert players into that culture, into that franchise. And, you know. You know that it works because he's proven that, and no one else in the league has anything like that.
Myron Metcalf
3. The most amazing statistic about the Steelers to me is this. Three coaches since, like, the 60s.
Matt Jones
It's a crazy. It's a. It's ridiculous. It will never happen again.
Myron Metcalf
No, that is. I mean, they've 65 years. They've had three coaches. That is an unbelievable situation. I think they continue what has been a really remarkable start to the year with a win on Monday night. Ed is in Virginia. What do you got, Ed? Folks, I listen to you guys for the last few years. I drive to Pennsylvania to visit my folks who are elderly, three hours each weekend, and I look forward to your show. My. Okay, Okay.
Matt Jones
I mean, there's A lot of things.
Myron Metcalf
That could apply to my work. My. You're an intelligent man. Okay. Look at adding the days up. You're looking at. Oh, if you carry through New Year's, you're looking at almost 68 days of Christmas music. That's.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
They're gonna start NBC playing It's a Wonderful Life on Halloween night, and we have to endure ourselves to that for, like, 10 more.
Matt Jones
I don't hate it.
Myron Metcalf
Charlie Brown.
Matt Jones
I don't hate the idea.
Myron Metcalf
Charlie Brown. Christmas on election day. Like, what is. So what is he thinking there, Ed?
Matt Jones
You just proved my point.
Myron Metcalf
Listen, Myron. Myron, that means we start lighting fireworks off after New Year's.
Matt Jones
That is true.
Myron Metcalf
Enjoy each holiday. Enjoy each holiday for the time. I like it. Ed gets my call today. Ed is very much.
Matt Jones
I respect it.
Myron Metcalf
I think it was.
Matt Jones
I respect it.
Myron Metcalf
I think it was Ecclesiastes that first said, there is a time for every season under heaven, a time to be born, a time to die. And you want us to have a time for Christmas for way too long.
Matt Jones
Are you talking about the song or the. Is that.
Myron Metcalf
You know, the song came from the Bible. The Beatles wrote the song. But it's a. But it's passages from Ecclesiastes.
Matt Jones
Oh, that makes. That makes sense.
Myron Metcalf
You didn't know that. You didn't. You didn't know that all of those things were from the Bible?
Matt Jones
It makes sense now that you say it. I gotta admit. It makes sense now that you. Now that you say it. It makes a lot of sense. It makes a lot of sense now that you say it. Okay.
Myron Metcalf
Have you never read that passage, by the way? Not that you care, Myron. But that. But the Ecclesiastes is my favorite book of the Bible, and it's only. It's not very long.
Matt Jones
Why do you say that?
Myron Metcalf
And it's. It's like, you know, it's. That song takes Ecclesiastes and puts it into, like, a rhythmic form.
Matt Jones
Why do you insert stuff like. Not that you care, though, before you say you care. You don't know what I care about. You don't know. Yeah, I mean. But. Okay, well, so what? You know. You don't know. What's your favorite? That doesn't matter. No, it doesn't matter because you said.
Myron Metcalf
Do you know any books about. Do you know the book?
Matt Jones
Not that you. You said, not that you care. And the problem is that sets up the thing where even if I say I care now, people are doubting it. I just don't think you need to add that extra not.
Myron Metcalf
Let me just put it like this.
Matt Jones
That little Southern thing that y'all do, Man, I don't like that.
Myron Metcalf
I do care. What is your favorite book of the Bible? So which one is it?
Matt Jones
Am I back in Sunday school? Is that two Corinthians?
Myron Metcalf
Is that yours? Two to two Corinthians.
Matt Jones
Listen, man, all I know is I'll take two months of Christmas music and two months of Mariah Carey. Give me. Give me what you got. I love it.
Myron Metcalf
I like that you not that you care.
Matt Jones
What am I supposed to say after that?
Myron Metcalf
You abstained on the Bible question. Ed is the best fan of the month.
Matt Jones
I did abstain.
Myron Metcalf
It is brought to you by Dr. Pepper. Just say like Ezekiel or something. It's not a black person.
Matt Jones
How about that? Let's have that conversation. Matt. You want to get awkward? Martin Luther could do that better than any.
Myron Metcalf
It's not college football season without the delicious taste of a nice cold Dr. Pepper. College football. It's a Pepper thing. We will make our picks for the games.
Matt Jones
Dr. King.
Myron Metcalf
It is countdown kickoff on ESPN ring.
Matt Jones

Myron Metcalf
I thought he was going to play my song. We were talking about the turn, turn, turn.
Matt Jones
It wasn't in the system. Yeah. No, yeah, you got it wrong.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, it's the birds. It's not the Beatles. I picked a different animal. But it's the birds that sang turn, turn, turn. It was Ecclesiastes. Susan writes in on the text machine and says, I really was excited to hear what Myron's favorite Bible book is. I tend to agree with Myron on things. Tell him to try to get us an answer at least.
Matt Jones
Listen, I don't know how you pick the favorite. I mean, again, I asked you about your favorite black, but you picked Martin Luther King, which I wasn't surprised. Easy answer. That's the safest answer on who your favorite black person is in any conversation.
Myron Metcalf
I did that for you. ESPN Radio is presented by Progressive Insurance. Progressive is going to help drive veterans lives forward through their Keys to Progress program. It is now time to take a pick.
Matt Jones
Take your pick. You take your pick. It's time to take your pick.
Myron Metcalf
Nick, how did we do last week? Well, Matt, you went 11 and two.
Matt Jones
Pretty good.
Myron Metcalf
Pretty good for you.
Matt Jones
You are now 54 and 32 overall. Myron, you went 10 and three and you're two games behind Matt.
Myron Metcalf
Two games.
Matt Jones
I wasn't on the show. I went 10 and three. But yep.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, what are we supposed to do when you miss? It's like a substitute. You get what they get. And so David Dennis went 10 and three. You're now two games behind me. As you continue your quest for seven straight losing seasons to be on Take your pick.
Matt Jones
Go ahead.
Myron Metcalf
What's up first?
Matt Jones
What we got? Vikings at Rams. Myron, Vikings at Rams just played on Thursday Night Football.
Myron Metcalf
I'm gonna take the Rams.
Matt Jones
Jet Tap Patriots. He said to grab all of them. I was not paying attention. I was blindly following.
Myron Metcalf
All right, we're 1 and 0. Got the Rams. All right, go ahead. Jetson Patriots.
Matt Jones
I think Jar Mayo has a lot to figure out with this team, but he's playing a Jets team that also has a ton to figure out. I think the jets will be better this year with an extra week between Rogers and Devonte Adams. Actually, the Patriots aren't very good. I'll take the jets.
Myron Metcalf
By the way. Give me Texas A and M over LSU as well in this one. I'm going to take.
Matt Jones
It's a mistake. It happened.
Myron Metcalf
I'm going to let the jets to win on the road against New England. Aaron Rogers is. Is a disaster, but not as much as a disaster as Mayo's coaching.
Matt Jones
I would just like to say I was out of the country on Thursday.
Myron Metcalf
So I told you, don't worry about it.
Matt Jones
I offer grace, which is what that good book tells you to do. That man always talks about he loves.
Myron Metcalf
What's next?
Matt Jones
All right. Eagles at Bengals. Man, this is tough for me. I mean, the Eagles look really good, but they were playing the Giants. Joe Burrow has that weird record against NFC teams. But no T. Higgins, man, gimme the Eagles.
Myron Metcalf
All right, I'm going to take the Dodgers to win the series over the Mets. And I'm also going to take the Bengals to beat the Eagles.
Matt Jones
Come on, man.
Myron Metcalf
At home. What's next?
Matt Jones
Packers at Jaguars? Packers beat their first team with a winning record last week. I mean, people don't realize that, but I think they'll be the Jags. Win these weird games. I'll take the Jags. I don't know why they win these games for some reason.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I got UConn to beat Purdue in the national championship game. I'm going to take the Packers. We get it to win on the road against Jacksonville. Man, I think it's good. Go ahead. What's next?
Matt Jones
Titans at Lions. I think we lose now. The Lions I think might be the best team in the league. Not name Baltimore or Kansas City. Lions are going to win in a landslide.
Myron Metcalf
It is very gentlemanly, by the way, of you to help Rachel like this because I was going to do that the whole time and now you've made me feel bad. I was even going to go back to Truman over Dewey.
Matt Jones
You know what?
Myron Metcalf
I will still.
Matt Jones
Oh, because you spent the last two segments calling me a sinner who doesn't know anything.
Myron Metcalf
Say you were a sinner.
Matt Jones
That's what you called me. You said you need to go to church. That's exactly what you told me.
Myron Metcalf
I'll take the L beat the Titans in Detroit. What's next?
Matt Jones
Falcons at Buccaneers? Man, these games are always so weird in the NFC South. Like literally anything can happen. The Bucks don't have Chris Goblin or Mike Evans. I think it's that simple. Even though I have doubts about Kirk Cousins. Give me Atlanta to win once again.
Myron Metcalf
Got the Atlanta game wrong last week. I've been. I have 32 losses on the year. I am owing picking Falcons games. You cannot pick the right winner of a Falcons game. It is absolutely impossible. So I'm going to take the Bucks, but I know that means the Falcons are going to win. But I will take the Bucks. What's next?
Matt Jones
Cardinals at Dolphins? Man, there's two of things weird, you know, Will they be inspired by him coming back? Maybe Kyler Murray's had to carry a lot of that load for the Cardinals. I'm going to give it to Arizona, I think, until his first game back. Give me the Cardinals.
Myron Metcalf
I have no idea. I mean, you talk about a game where I have.
Matt Jones
It's weird.
Myron Metcalf
No idea who's going to win. I'll take the Dolphins because I think Tyreek Hill, who's been sort of non existent this year, will have a couple big plays. I'll take Miami, but anyone could win. This game is completely baffling. What's next?
Matt Jones
Ravens at browser? Yeah. Jameis Winston against the best team, I think in the afc, maybe the NFL. I'll take the Ravens. I think, you know, Lamar's going to win is another MVP potentially. But he needs a Super bowl to solidify his legacy. That's just a real thing and just the way it is when you're a great player.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I'm going to take the Ravens. Although only a seven point spread. That surprises me a little. Maybe something to watch, but I'm going to take the Ravens. What's next?
Matt Jones
Colts at Texans. I don't think CJ Stroud will be as bad as he was last week when the packers pressured him on 48% of his drop backs. I don't even think the Colts can do that. And Anthony Richardson on the road is not something I trust. Give me the Texans.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. Flacco will play in this game. They will bench Richardson, but they're going to be benching him because the Texans are going to win. I will take Houston. By the way, I already have somebody complaining that you didn't let me finish out the thing. I was going to go all the way back to the Middle Ages and with victory, Houston.
Matt Jones
Instead.
Myron Metcalf
Instead. You're not even. You didn't even let me. What's next?
Matt Jones
St. Ted? Chargers.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt Jones
Dennis Allen fighting for his job. I think the Chargers will be better. Herbert looked great last weekend even though his team lost. Give me the Chargers to get the win.
Myron Metcalf
I like the Chargers big. I think the Chargers are starting to get on a roll. It's a home game, but that doesn't matter. But the Saints, I think their season, for all intents and purposes, ends today. I take the Chargers to win at home. What's next?
Matt Jones
Bills at Seahawks? Surprised you didn't pick the Saints. Give me. Give me a team with Seahawks that I think is. The defense is back, they're getting healthy and I think that really puts a lot of pressure on any team they face. But you know what? Amara Cooper could change this. Bill's team. I think that might have been a bigger trade than the other trades that happened with receivers. Give me the Bills to win.
Myron Metcalf
You got Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, judges, Ruth, first and second, Samuel, first and Second Corinthians. And the Bills will beat the Seahawks today in Seattle. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Bears at Commanders. Let's talk to my mom or something about wanting me to go to church or something. I don't know. Bears at Commanders.
Myron Metcalf
You say it. You don't know a lot of the people.
Matt Jones
You've been in a group text with her and the other ladies from her church. I. I think this is interesting, man, because Jayden Daniel's coming off the injury. You know, how good is he in terms of, like, physically? I think that's a real question. Caleb Williams has gotten better. We've seen that gradually over. Over time. But I just think this is Jaden Daniels moment. I think he's a different kind of quarterback to prepare for right now. And I think Washington gets the win.
Myron Metcalf
Commanders are better now than the Bears are now. Jaden Daniels is better now than Caleb Williams is now. We'll see what that means for the future. But I'll take the Commanders today. Who's next?
Matt Jones
Panthers and Broncos. I mean, it's the Broncos. Bo Nicks. I don't know if it's real or not, but. But I think he's better than maybe people thought he would be. And I think with Sean Payton, there's at least enough there to make you feel like the Broncos have a chance to build around him potentially on his rookie deal if this continues. Give him the Broncos.
Myron Metcalf
Panthers are top three worst organizations in sports. It's the Panthers, the White Sox and the Wizards. Those are the three. Panthers lose and I will take the Broncos to win at home. What's next?
Matt Jones
Chiefs at Raiders? I think they're going to regret that. Kermit the frog thing, man. I think Kansas City is going to win and I think Mahomes is going to try to make a statement on a. On a Raiders team that had to go out and find Desmond Ritter because of all his QB issues. Kansas City, by a lot.
Myron Metcalf
What was your favorite Muppets character, by the way? The whole Kermit and all that? What did you like?
Matt Jones
Miss Piggy?
Myron Metcalf
Miss Piggy? Yeah.
Matt Jones
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
Was that like you, like, attracted. Like you just thought she was hot when they would dress her up? I just didn't know if you could know any of them. You got Fozzie Bear. You got Gonzo. You got all Those.
Matt Jones
I like Miss Piggy. That's. That's who I like. Miss Piggy I thought was the cool one.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah. All right. Well, I got the Chiefs to win on the road. I liked when Dolly Parton and Miss Piggy sang a song together. Do you remember that?
Matt Jones
They were that. I do.
Myron Metcalf
That was a good one. I'll take the Chiefs. What's next?
Matt Jones
I remember that. Cowboys at 49ers. Oh, man. I mean, the 49ers, a lot of injuries, but. But I think George Kittle's playing. Debo will play. So that certainly makes me feel like the 49ers are going to win against a bad. I think Dallas just isn't good. I think that's just a reality. Like, this is a big game for.
Myron Metcalf
San Francisco, by the way. They. They need to win this. They're three and four and their schedule gets hard after the bye week. They got to win this one. So I'm going to take the 49ers as well, because if they lose, all of a sudden, the curse of the super bowl loser looks like it will extend to another year for the 49ers. But I do think they find a way to win tonight. And what is Monday Night Football?
Matt Jones
Giants and Steelers? Yeah, I mean, I think Steelers win this, Giants got a lot of problems. Is Daniel Jones going to get through the season? I think that's a real question and concern right now for that franchise. But Russell Wilson isn't that Russell Wilson. But I think he looked good enough to make you feel like this can be a playoff team. And then you see what happens from there. Give me the Steelers.
Myron Metcalf
I'm generally biased against Russell Wilson because I think he's a little bit of a. Of a cheese ball. But I will say he looked good the other night. I mean, you can't. You can't deny that. I don't know if I totally believe the Collins Worth moon ball stuff. He kept saying over and over, the ball just drops into people's hands. Yeah, but it dropped into their George Pickens hands a lot the other night. So I will take the Steelers to win. Myron, thank you.
Matt Jones
Oh, sorry.
Myron Metcalf
One more.
Matt Jones
David versus Goliath. I've heard Goliath's a big favorite in this one. Matt, thoughts?
Myron Metcalf
Listen, David, I know it sounds crazy to go out on a limb, but David has been working during the off season. He's been pulling that rock back, and I think he has a good chance of pulling it off in the end.
Matt Jones
So how much is your miracle water? 999. I'm not selling five easy payments at 999.

Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron: Episode “Hour 3: Is It Too Early?”
Release Date: October 27, 2024
Hosts: Matt Jones and Myron Medcalf
Platform: ESPN Radio
The episode kicks off with a lighthearted discussion about Halloween costumes, setting a playful tone. Myron Medcalf (MM) grapples with finding a unique costume that's fun without delving into political themes, saying at [00:47] “…I tried to get one that's like, relevant, but in election years, everybody wants to do politics and I can't do that.” Matt Jones (MJ) humorously dismisses the idea of dressing up, emphasizing his dedication to handing out quality candy instead.
The hosts engage in a comedic back-and-forth about candy distribution. When MM jokes about giving out a mix of Skittles and M&M's in a bowl, MJ reacts defensively, clarifying at [02:21] “I keep them in the packages.” The conversation touches on subtle racial stereotypes, with MM teasing MJ by suggesting that a "Black man with Skittles" would be easily identifiable, prompting MJ to vehemently deny any such implications.
A significant portion of the episode centers on the debate over when to start playing Christmas music. At [04:44], MJ asserts, “My hot take is holiday music should start being played the day after Halloween.” He advocates for a seamless transition into the Christmas season, arguing that starting after Halloween provides ample "runway" for holiday festivities. MM counters this notion, proposing Veterans Day as a more appropriate starting point, stating at [05:14] “It's too early. I'm with the caller. Veterans Day feels like a good day.” The exchange delves into cultural and seasonal transitions, blending humor with genuine debate.
The hosts transition to analyzing upcoming NFL games, offering insights and predictions:
Cincinnati Bengals vs. Philadelphia Eagles: MM expresses confidence in Cincinnati's potential resurgence despite T. Higgins being inactive, noting Burrow's prowess against NFC teams at [06:45]. MJ underscores the importance of the game for both teams' momentum.
Kansas City Chiefs vs. Las Vegas Raiders: A spirited discussion ensues about the Chiefs' performance and Mahomes' motivation, with MJ predicting a Chiefs victory at [16:12]. MM agrees, highlighting Chiefs' strong schedule and championship aspirations.
Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New York Giants: Celebrating the Steelers' impressive streak and Mike Tomlin's leadership, MM advocates for Pittsburgh's dominance, especially against a struggling Giants team, as discussed around [26:59].
Other Notable Games: The conversation also touches on matchups like the Chargers vs. Saints, Bills vs. Seahawks, and Colts vs. Texans, with both hosts sharing their picks and rationales.
In the interactive segment “Take Your Pick,” listeners participate by predicting game outcomes. Key highlights include:
Vikings at Rams: MM selects the Rams, emphasizing their recent performance.
Jets vs. Patriots: MJ chooses the Jets, critiquing the Patriots' current form.
Dodgers vs. Mets (World Series): MM supports the Dodgers, citing their strong start.
Steelers vs. Giants (Monday Night Football): Both hosts back the Steelers, attributing their consistency to Mike Tomlin's coaching.
Notable Quote: At [35:03], MM remarks, “I listen to you guys for the last few years. I drive to Pennsylvania to visit my folks who are elderly, three hours each weekend…,” highlighting the show's loyal listener base.
A humorous yet insightful exchange occurs when MM mentions his favorite Bible book, Ecclesiastes, linking it to the debate on Christmas music. MJ feigns ignorance, leading to a playful discussion about biblical references in popular culture. At [30:52], MM shares, “The Ecclesiastes is my favorite book of the Bible, and it's only…,” blending theological insights with the show's casual banter.
The hosts infuse the discussion with personal stories and pop culture references:
Miss Piggy and Muppets: An animated conversation about favorite Muppets characters, with MJ favoring Miss Piggy and MM reminiscing about performances like Dolly Parton and Miss Piggy’s duet at [43:04].
Listener Contributions: Calls from listeners like Randy (McDeezy) and Tim add depth and relatability, as they share their thoughts and feedback on the show’s segments and topics.
As the episode wraps up, MJ and MM preview upcoming shows and segments, including interviews with Dan Orlovsky and previews of key Monday Night Football matchups. They encourage listeners to subscribe and engage with the podcast across various platforms, ensuring continued connection with their audience.
