This is Matt and Myron the Podcast.
Myron
I've learned one thing on this show. You don't borrow people's shovels in the dmv.
Matt
No.
Sponsor Voice 1
Period.
Myron
Just get your own.
Matt
Honestly.
Myron
That's right.
Matt
I love how you say you don't know where people get those things. That's when like your. That's what I know. A tax bracket you're in when you say stuff like that. When you start to say, I don't know where people get those things.
Sponsor Voice 2
How do you not have a shovel?
Myron
I mean, why would you have one in Kentucky? It does, but I just borrow my neighbors. I mean, look, I. There are things I consider myself to be smart on. It's Matt Myron on ESPN Radio. Then there are things that maybe, like there are some practicalities of life that I'm not the strongest at. And. And shoveling or anything to do with yard work. Yeah, that's one of them. So, you know, plus, I went into Costco a couple weeks ago. Oh, that seems like the worst.
Matt
That's. I mean, that's chaos.
Myron
It's. Honestly, I felt like I was in a WWE ring.
Matt
It is.
Myron
It's. And then everybody's like, when I criticize Costco, people go, you know, they got $50 hot dogs.
Matt
Yeah.
Myron
Yeah. That's why I'm staying away. $50 hot dog sounds like a good place to get tetanus.
Matt
And then you just try to find your stuff and then someone's like, hey, you want to sample these chocolate chip banana muffins real quick? And they just kind of throw them in your face and the traffic is crazy. It's hard to get around. But I like that kind of chaos, though.
Myron
Hey, would you like 48 plungers? No, I want one.
Matt
You can't buy one of anything.
Myron
They don't. They will not let you buy one. Anything. All right. The NFL draft just completed, and probably the biggest surprise to the casual fans was the Rams drafting ty Simpson. At 13, the Rams seem like a team that, based on Matthew Stafford's age and just the way They've been built are a win now team. I picked them to win the super bowl last year. Chance I might pick them to win this year. So picking the quarterback of the future seems odd. And it especially seemed odd when Sean McVay got had his reaction. He was asked about it right after the draft and he seemed to say, you know, we have a player. It didn't seem exciting. So then he was asked again about it and here's what he had to say after that.
Sean McVay
Well, there was some other things I was grumpy about that, you know, you just navigate normally. But I think the main thing, Kyle, was you just wanted to make sure that I would have been stoic by nature anyways, just based on the respect for Matthew because it's a unique situation. You get a chance to be able to, you know, take a player that you like at a really important position, but you don't want it to be minimized or misunderstood in terms of what this means in terms of our investment and our commitment to Matthew for as long as he wants to continue to play. And so you're kind of teetering that line. And clearly, you know, I came off a little grumpier than normal.
Myron
Clearly, if you've seen the video, he came off as very grumpy. Do you buy it? Do you buy that Todd or that Sean McVeigh wanted to pick Ty Simpson there?
Sponsor Voice 2
No.
Matt
And he basically said it like he started that by saying, I was thinking about other things outside of football. And at the end, he's basically like, yeah, the whole thing made me grumpy. The weird part to me is I don't think anyone thought that Ty Simpson could come in and take Matthew Stafford's job. And after an MVP season, like, who's saying that?
Myron
Nobody.
Matt
But this looks like a situation where a GM less need said, hey, he's there. We're going to move up to make sure we get him with a very high pick in the first round. Matt, you don't pick a quarterback that high unless you plan to use them fairly soon. So I can understand how Sean McVeigh is like, no way. That's going to send the wrong message. And at the end of the day, it also signals to me that Matthew Stafford probably hated this move, which is why Sean McVeigh felt like he had to come out and look like he was sort of against the pick. It's a weird situation.
Myron
Yeah, this is one of the weird situations, Byron, where I kind of understand both sides. So I understand why McVeigh would be or Matthew Stafford or whoever would be frustrated. They probably should or could have won the super bowl last year and did not. They certainly will be one of the contenders this year and they have the reigning mvp. So it seems like a perfect situation to go. Let's go get a piece that can help us do this.
Matt
Yeah.
Myron
On the other hand, we spent all of last season, Myron, wondering if Matthew Stafford was even going to be able to play. There was talks about his back and whether or not he was going to be able to get on the field. So the idea that Matthew Stafford might not be the quarterback forever when there were rumors that he would retire last summer, I don't think that's a crazy notion. I don't know if I think Ty Simpson is going to be a great NFL quarterback, but if you do, okay, if you do, I think this move actually makes a lot of sense because if you think he's going to be a great NFL quarterback, you got him in at pick 13 for a very small trade up. It actually, to me, would make some sense.
Matt
Yeah. I mean, it's the divide between a coach and a gm. A GM thinking about the future, a coach thinking about now based on his relationship with Matthew Stafford. And again, we haven't heard from Matthew Stafford. All we heard was Ty Simpson say that Matthew Stafford's wife, I believe, had told him, like, hey, if you need something, let us know. But Stafford hasn't talked to him yet. And that's me.
Myron
I didn't know that. Is that what.
Matt
It's a real thing? Yeah. He said. He said he heard. Hasn't heard from Stafford, but he heard from his wife who was like, hey, if you need anything, we're here. But Stafford hasn't connected with him. And that is the biggest sign. If Matthew Stafford hasn't reached out to this young quarterback, that's all you need to know about how he felt about the pick and how Sean McVeigh felt about the pick. So Sean McVeigh can't tell us that he and Les need are on the same page when clearly we saw his emotions when they picked Ty Simpson.
Myron
So with Ty Simpson, you can kind of see what you want to see. Okay, so you can go to the first game, which was the first game he. I think he started against, against Florida State, and. And it didn't go great. But then he played really, really well for games like 2 through 9. And then I believe it was Georgia or somebody they played. At the end, he got hurt a little bit. And when he got hurt then in the last couple games, he didn't look good again. So you can sit there and say, okay, what was the real Ty Simpson? Was it the one we saw at the end of the year and with Florida State. Excuse me. Or was it the one in the middle of the season? You can kind of see what you want. It's, you know, everybody focuses on. Well, he only started 15 games. I mean, it's 15 games. That doesn't seem crazy to me. His amount. And he's not going to have to start immediately in the NFL. And chances are when he comes in, he's actually going to have a pretty good team whenever he ultimately takes the field. But I also think when McVay says, Look, he's going to compete with Stetson Bennett.
Matt
Yeah, that was bad.
Myron
That doesn't seem like the kind of thing that says, we love this guy. He's competing with Stetson Bennett.
Matt
Yeah. I mean, if you're Ty Simpson, you hear that, you're like, hold on a second, like, what I gotta, I gotta compete to.
Myron
There have been reports he didn't even meet with McVeigh. Do we know that's true?
Matt
Because he met with the scouts. He only met with like scouts.
Myron
See, that's weird. That is weird. I will say that's weird too, isn't it?
Matt
But that to me is how you know that he was not the choice of a Sean McVay. That this is where I think what Sean McVeigh is responding to is the idea that maybe the GM went over my head and picked this guy when he knew that I was against it. But you brought up something that I think is a big factor here. Ty Simpson didn't start a lot of games. Who's the last guy that didn't start a bunch of games? And he came into the NFL and people were concerned about his ceiling and now he's looking for a team, or was looking for a team. Anthony Richardson, that was the whole thing with. Anthony Richardson did not play a ton of football.
Myron
Yeah, but Anthony Richardson was a little different because to me, even when he played, he stuck. But, but that was that. I mean, Ty Simpson, when he played at times, played very well.
Matt
But I'm going to tell you, a guy before him, Mitch Trubisky, only started, I think 13 games at North Carolina, came into the league. I, I think if you're Sean McVeigh in a weak quarterback draft, I'm guessing he's telling less need. This is not where you reach. I mean, Fernet Mendoza in a good draft maybe isn't even a first round pick. So you don't reach for a Ty Simpson in this kind of a draft
Myron
unless you believe in it. I mean, if you believe. If you.
Matt
But Sean McVeigh don't believe it though. That's.
Myron
Well, clearly. And that. That would worry me a little bit. Here's my biggest worry about ties. It's actually not the amount of games play. When you're a quarterback with a team that has on paper as many weapons as Alabama, you better be really good. Like if you're playing it on a team that's not very good and you get beat up. I understand. But if you're at Alabama, you better be really good to me for me to want to pick you. And Ty Simpson was good, but I don't think he was great. And if he's not going to be great in college with the Alabama talent level, how's he going to be in the NFL? That would be my worry.
Matt
Well, and they produced some great quarterbacks in recent years. What they haven't produced are great quarterbacks in the nil world for the most part. Jaylen Milro last year, Ty Simpson, like I think we can't keep saying, oh, the Alabama quarterbacks when things are so different right now.
Myron
They are different. No, that's true.
Matt
But my fear would be this dude didn't play a lot of football. And I can see how Sean McVeigh would be concerned about that.
Myron
Well, I don't care what Sean McVeigh said. He wasn't happy. That dude let me play poker with that guy because he doesn't have was not happy. He does not have the best poker face. The NBA playoffs are coming. We will get you ready for more of the games. That's next here on Matt Myron on his

Is this Taylor Swift? It is good. Taylor Swift here on Matt Myron on ESPN Radio. Are you a Taylor Swift fan, Myron?
Matt
I mean, I don't, like, know the music, but I'm. I'm a. You know, I know she's great at what she does.
Producer/Assistant
What were you gonna do if I said no?
Myron
Well, then I was gonna figure out who it was.
Producer/Assistant
Oh, you just said good. Like, good.
Matt
Oh, did you ask me? I thought you were asking me. You said Rachel.
Producer/Assistant
No, no.
Myron
I was wondering if you were a fan.
Matt
I don't like how her and Beyonce are pit against each other. I'm not a fan of that.
Myron
But they don't do that, do they? They.
Matt
No. They've shown up at each other's events. Like, I hate that. I hate when people say, are you a Taylor Swift?
Myron
You're very protective of Beyonce. Why are you. Do you not think. Do you think she needs you on the front lines to help her?
Matt
No, no. But I hate how when you bring up Taylor Swift or Beyonce, someone brings up the other one.
Myron
I mean, you're the one that always brings it up to me. Every time I talk about Travis Kelsey and you just start talking about Beyonce like you are. Are you a one of part. Is it the queen bees or whatever you have?
Matt
No, but I feel like people make you. But people make you, like, pick one of them.
Myron
Who are these people, man?
Matt
It's people all over. They just make who. Who they want you to show your
Myron
Zaslow making you pick between Taylor Swift and Beyonce.
Matt
No, but her name. The other one's name always comes.
Myron
That is true. Somebody's got to tell Zaslow to stop making people pick.
Matt
They're both great. They can both be great. That's all I'm saying.
Myron
Well, not according to Zazlow. The NBA playoffs are on ESPN Radio. Catch postseason action on ESPN Radio and the ESPN app presented by Gusto. The spurs at the trailblazers today at 3 o'.
Ian Fitzsimmons
Clock.
Myron
The Lakers right now lead the Rockets 3 0. And it's kind of oddly not gotten a lot of attention. How Lebron has turned back the clock
Matt
all of a sudden.
Myron
Old school LeBron leading a team that doesn't seem like they should be in this position to big victories. They can close out the series. According to Madoku, Kevin Durant is getting treatment around the clock to be ready for game four. They certainly need him. Lakers were down six with just 28 seconds left the other night and got the win. My guy Reed shepherd got picked by LeBron and an old school YMCA play there at the end. What do you make of this sort of LeBron surge at the end of the season?
Matt
Well, is he made Adelka getting treatment for his coaching? Because I think that probably is a part of it as well. It's remarkable. And you know, people, you can't say LeBron without saying MJ. I don't care about that stuff. Like, whatever. At the end of the day, this is the most remarkable thing we've ever seen on a basketball court. Like someone this age, at this stage of their career, potentially leading a team to a win in a playoff series. Now, Kevin Durant has missed two games. He's been hurt, but no Luca, no Austin Reeves. The Lakers are dealing with injuries as well. I mean, Luke Canard has been the number two option in games this year. So, I mean, we're just watching someone who's doing things that no one in the history of the NBA has ever done. And I don't think there's an argument against that. I'm tired of the old school MJ folks. I just don't care anymore. LeBron is unique, and to me, he's in his own category at this stage, doing the things we're witnessing right now.
Myron
Yeah. I mean, again, well, you bring up an argument that, like, Beyonce, we don't have to do these. We don't have to do. I mean, bring up another argument that I don't know that anybody is making you have. Have look at you. Like, just don't listen to the old heads arguing. Like, you get too distracted by people.
Matt
But. But they're. But they're so annoying in that.
Myron
Well, just ignore them. But here's the argument you should be having. Have we ever, in sports seen an old guy do what he's done? I mean, I'm trying to think of like old guy moments, and I mean really old guys. Not like a guy who's old just by sports standards. I mean, I guess, you know, Phil Mickelson won the Masters at like, what, 50 or something. That that's. That's a pretty much an old guy moment. There was that famous Jimmy Connors run in the US Open, where he got to the semifinals. Tom Brady being so good at football at an old age. Kurt.
Matt
George Foreman won the belt.
Myron
George Foreman winning the heavyweight belt.
Matt
That's a good 40s.
Myron
But this is a pretty amazing old guy moment. But here's what I was going to say about all of those, with the exception of Brady, with George Foreman and. And, you know, Jimmy Connors and even Phil Mickelson, like, it was an old guy who looked like an old guy who moved like an old guy and was kind of calling his last moments. Yeah, LeBron still looks like he could be 30 years old in his prime plane. He's not in his prime, but he has moments where he's in his prime. And it is fascinating to see an old guy be able to do what he's doing. It's almost beyond belief against a Rockets
Matt
team that's known for its youth. I mean, viewed as one of the best young rosters in the NBA. And here's LeBron James just destroying them. I don't think we've ever seen a guy at this stage, outside of Brady, who looked like he could do this for five more years and would still play at a high level. I think that's the difference, too, is he's doing it to a degree. Where you go, nothing seems crazy about how long he wants to play this
Myron
game, but that the only comp really is. Is Brady.
Matt
That's it.
Myron
And what's interesting, though, is Brady never. His strength was never really his athleticism. So the thing that you lose as you get older, Brady wasn't like. That wasn't why he was good. LeBron Strength has always been that he's the best athlete. Yeah, ever. And now he's lost some of a little of that. Not a lot, but a little of it. And yet he's still amazing. And that is what I think. So many people either love or hate LeBron that you just sometimes don't sit back and appreciate. This is crazy. It's crazy that a dude that is Now, I think 68 is still playing as well as he's playing and doing
Matt
it against young guys. Like, to me, the greatest duel of an old guy versus young guy will always be what Brady did to Mahomes towards the end of his career in the AFC Championship game. That's always going to stand out. You'll never have an argument where Mahomes can be better than Brady because of what Brady did late in his career. But this is number two behind that. To me, in LeBron keeping up with these young guys. And to your point, being this explosive player, like, we. We've never seen a player on the NBA, on an NBA court at this stage, still being explosive. Go back and look, Matt, and I know you know this. Go back and look at when Isaiah Pete and Larry Pete and even MJ Pete, and all these guys that you assumed were 38, 39. A bunch of these dudes, Matt, were 30, 31, 32, and it was over for them in terms of their athleticism and explosiveness. And yet here's LeBron looking like he can do it for. For the next five years.
Myron
In the other big game, the Hawks even up the series as the Knicks get a victory. Cat has a triple double. People kind of waiting for Cat to have that moment.
Matt
Yeah.
Myron
Which he did. The Knicks still. I feel like the Knicks just got to get through this series. Just get through it. I still like their matchup with the Celtics. My question, though, is, is Miles Bridges, like, going to show up? I mean, like, they. Mikel Bridges, Mikhail Bridges. I'm sorry, Mikhail Bridge. Is he going to show up? You make that trade, you get all the. You give all the picks for him, and he doesn't play like that at all.
Matt
Well, I mean, you were with. You were in Game 7 with the team that took the OKC Thunder to Game 7, and Halliburton got hurt. Like, you were right there and you fired Tips. So to me, you got to bring in somebody that's going to do something different in this stage. You hired Mike Brown for this moment right here because you believe that he could be something different than what Tibbs was. Matt, what's different about him hasn't succeeded as a head coach in over a decade, has not been known as a guy who pushes a team over the top. Sacramento fired him, and yet you bring him in and think he's the answer. They just don't look like the same team.
Myron
I feel like Mike Brown has coached every team in the league. Yes, but.
Matt
But like, at least with the Knicks last year, you thought they had a certain edge. And you know what? The Hawks have figured out in these first couple games. They don't have that edge with Mike Brown. This is.
Myron
But now the Knicks have home court again, right? So now they're. I mean, they had to win one. They got the one yesterday. You still think they end up winning the series?
Matt
I'm picking the Hawks, man. I think the Hawks beat them.
Myron
Don't be a prisoner of the moment.
Matt
Prisoner of the moment? What do you mean? Like, I think if Mike Brown is coaching your team, you're not going to be as good as you were a year ago. That's his history. That's who he was. That's who he's been.
Myron
Point. You're such Mike Brown slander trying to get Beyonce.
Matt
He got fired by the Kings, man, and now you bring him in and say he's the answer. They're recycling coaches. I hate that. Get on.
Myron
Do not get on Myron's bad side. Well, Victor Wimbanyama playing game four tonight. We'll talk about that and more. Preview of the playoffs next here on ESPN Radio.

Here on the ESPN Radio game two, game four today of spurs and Blazers starts at 3:00'. Clock. The coverage here on ESPN Radio. Mark Kier's on with us. ESPN Radio play by play. He is calling the game. Victor Wimbanyama was concussed in game two. He missed game three. But now in a pivotal game four. We still don't know about his status, Mark, do we? I mean, has there been official word on whether he's going to play today?
Mark Kieper
Matt Myron, good morning. There has not. I think we're heading over to Moda center in about 15 minutes and I think the expectation is probably, you know, top of the hour within the next 30, 45 minutes that we might get some indication on Victor. Obviously him flying with the team here was a good indication. Him running around the court pre game but not being cleared, not really having contact, you know, and then staying on the floor with the sound and the lights, you know, at least it, it leads to some optimism that he's going to play today. But we know these injuries are tricky and it's not just the doctors from the Spurs. The league independent doctors have to take a look as well. So I think we'll know in the next 30, 45 minutes.
Matt
Cassie, obviously Wimby is viewed as now and the future, but he cleared the way for Stephen Castle and Dylan Harper to kind of take the main stage. What are we learning about that young backcourt and their potential?
Mark Kieper
You know, I think what we learned throughout the year is it's a young team, San Antonio, but it has young depth. I mean, obviously we saw Stefan Castle win rookie of the year last year. He slides, I don't want to say slides to number four. But think of the three teams 1, 2 and 3 a couple of years ago that could have had Castle and the spurs get him at 4 and then they almost win the lottery. The spurs, they almost had Cooper flag. They ended up one pick short. They got number two and Dylan Harper has been incredible. That was just an amazing second half that he put together. It makes you forget that there's, you know, older blue Guys like the Devon Vessels and the Kelvin Johnson who didn't have to have great games because Castle and Harper, they are the future with Wemby and they were the now in game three. That. That is. That is a tough loss for Portland at home. You just steal one in San Antonio, you're up double digits late third quarter, no Wemby on the floor, and you couldn't get it done. I mean, it's a good thing. It's a quick turnaround to an early game today in Portland because that had to be very hard to take if you're the Blazers.
Myron
Yeah, that. That one is. If you're going to win the series, that's one you usually have to win. You mentioned a lot of names, and people always mention a lot of names with the spurs, and then they don't mention a guy that I do think ultimately is going to decide how far they go, which is dear. And Fox, because the ball is in his hand a lot and he has had, I don't want to say an anonymous career, but because he spent so much of it in Sacramento, I, I think he's probably one of the better players in the league that people have seen play the least. This is going to be a prime time spotlight from him. I remember his time at Kentucky very well, where he got better as the games got bigger. Mark, how do you think he's going to handle playing in some games that are probably the first massive ones of his entire career since college?
Mark Kieper
First of all, Matt, you're 100% right. Whenever we talk, whenever I talk about San Antonio, I talk about the youth and you forget, you know, the trade of Fox over from Sacramento, that you could book 20 points a game, five assists a game every year. And, you know, to have that kind of a guy who feels like, you know, he's probably in his 30s by now, but he's only 28 years of age. He got fortunate. There was a foul. I think it was the right call against Denny Abdia that chipped obvious tooth. I think obvious was kind of in that cylinder. But the call had gone against him, was looking like a fifth foul, if I recall, early in the game. And they got a big reversal on it. His, you know, with a young team, you guys all know you got to have that guy who can lead the way when things get tough. Fox is that guy. And you're right, he's. He's been a guy that, you know, was kind of tucked away in Sacramento, not as much when the Kings had that really good year, but they lost in seven games to Golden State in that early playoff series. But they need him. They need his three point shooting. He's struggled on that end and a bunch of other guys that I named, some of the older guys that are usually good, you know, to hit some big three pointers haven't in this series. Harper and Castle rescued those guys because you'd be looking at down to one danger zone. Is Wemby going to play, you know, let alone Denver being down 3:1 in the other series that these two series are going to merge into the second round whoever the winners come out of.
Matt
Cassie, does it seem as simple as if Wimby gets the green light, he's back out there 100%, no challenges with availability or is this a Spurs organization that's going to be really delicate with when they bring him back and how they use him after this?
Mark Kieper
It's funny you asked that Myron, because you know, in my checklist of questions for Mitch Johnson when we speak with him, the head coach of the spurs is, you know, whether he plays, whether he doesn't play, if he's going to play. How do they use him because we saw him coming off the calf strain in Las Vegas where he missed 12 games. They brought him off the bench, you know, so it is hard to tell because they are going to be, you would think at least you know, in the history of the spurs in modern times it has been a conservative approach and you're up to one with game five in your home building coming up in a couple of nights. So my gut feeling is, you know, it's not we're right back where we were but we'll hopefully find those answers, you know, if we get the transparency we need with the coaches meeting coming up in about an hour or so.
Myron
Let's finish with this. We haven't yet talked about the Blazers. I'm not sure there's a more anonymous team in the NBA that is good the most people. I'm just going to speak for the average non hardcore NBA fan that might be driving in their car today on a trip listening to you. They. You mean they might not know anything about this Blazers team. So if you were to give them a quick introduction on why it's 2:1 and they're competitive, what is it?
Mark Kieper
The quick introduction is Denny Abdia. Even the folks in Washington didn't know they had an all star in their hands or at least a guy who blossom this year. And the spurs by the way have done a good job against in the last couple of games. Scoot Henderson by the way, he was in the Wemby draft at number three and was. He missed 51 games this year because of injury. He's been great in this series. And then if I'm going to give one more, I would say Drew Holiday, you know, a two time champ in Milwaukee and in Boston who's kind of turned back the clock a few years and has been very impressive down the stretch of the season and so far in this series. Those three guys right there, one you should have heard of in Jrue Holiday, Abdia and Henderson, I'll give you, you know, a little bit of pass on that. But they play their games late for folks in the eastern and central time zones. They're not a glamour team, so they're not on a lot of national broadcasts. The job that Thiago Splitter has done, taking over for Chauncey Billups, that might be the, the highlight of a low light for Portland is what do you know about the Trailblazers? Their coach hasn't coached a team since game one, you know, which is also
Myron
crazy, Mark, that they've done this and their coach got arrested after game one. I mean that's, that's wild. And is it Splitter still the interim? Like technically.
Mark Kieper
Technically, yes, they have Chauncey Billups. I think all these 42 regular season games went to him. There's new ownership here in Portland. There's been a lot of stories in the papers, electronic. You guys have probably discussed it.
Myron
Are they giving you all coffee? Are you allowed to get a paper drink or anything?
Mark Kieper
You know, I think the water I just opened I will have to pay for. But hopefully I don't have to check out of the hotel before I leave because that, that has been an issue. But, but to be honest, I think one of the reasons that, you know, if they haven't signed him yet is, you know, Thiago Splitter has made a lot of money for himself the way he has performed as a first year head coach here. And I'm not sure if there's been an offer, but if there has been that, it's commensurate to perhaps what many think he might get in the open market. But Splitter, who was, you know, a really decent player on a championship spurs team, has done an incredible job considering everything that went on earlier this season here in Portland.
Myron
I will say to Blazers fans, the own, the new owner, that is so cheap. He's also my team, the Carolina Hurricanes owner, he's done an amazing, they've done an amazing job. I mean they've been.
Mark Kieper
That's what I've heard. Yeah, maybe it works.
Myron
Maybe it might work and maybe it's just growing.
Matt
Just don't get straws.
Myron
But you know what? You get to the They've won eight straight first round playoff series, the Hurricane. So maybe it works. Mark casting share ESPN radio play by plague 3 o' clock today on ESPN radio Spurs and Blazers. Thank you very much, Mark. Appreciate it.
Mark Kieper
Got it gentlemen, have good rest of your show.
Myron
There you go. I wish I knew more about the Blazers, but I just have to admit that I. I don't stay up that light. And then when I am up that light, I never think, let's turn on Portland. Oh, man.
Matt
I mean, Damon is prime.
Myron
Those were. But how long has that been? I mean, like I. I watched a few years. I mean, yeah, Clyde Drexler was great too, but that was a while back.
Matt
Bill Walton I'm trying to cool city too though, man. That. The vibe in that city is pretty cool.
Myron
What is the vibe?
Matt
It's just. It's just cool, man.
Myron
Like, what makes it so cool? I haven't been.
Matt
It's tr. Like people are just hip and trendy and welcoming and friendly. It's just like a cool spot.
Myron
They're hip and trendy. That's what makes it.
Matt
It's a beautiful spot, man. Yeah. I love Portland.
Myron
How many times have you been to Portland?
Matt
Many times.
Myron
How many?
Matt
My sister lived there. Half dozen.
Myron
Have you ever noticed Rachel and James? I feel like Myron says his sister must be a world traveler.
Matt
Legit.
Myron
I feel like every we go to you, you always are like, yeah, I've been to. I've been to Midland, Texas. My sister lived there.
Matt
She's lived on five continents.
Producer/Assistant
Wait, what are the two. She hasn't.
Matt
She's fluent in four languages. I'm not making that up.
Producer/Assistant
What. What other two? I'm serious. What other what?
Matt
Well, not Antarctica.
Producer/Assistant
Okay, that one.
Matt
And then Australia. But Africa, Asia, Europe. What's the other America? South. I mean, she lives in Mexico now. She's lived all over the world. That's not me making it up. Okay, she's fluent in four languages. What for Portuguese, obviously. English, French, and I believe she's close on Mandarin. I'm dead serious.
Myron
So do you. How did none of this rub off on you? I mean, like they say, people of the same genetics.
Matt
You think your friends, like, can just say something. Matt can, in that moment, just say something positive. He has to turn into.
Producer/Assistant
I had the same thoughts.
Myron
Your sister.
Matt
Y' all think I'm an underachiever.
Myron
No, I don't think you're an underachiever. I just think like, let me tell
Matt
you man, they put me in Spanish and it just wasn't working for me.
Myron
That's what I'm trying.
Matt
There's a lot of stuff that just didn't work for me.
Myron
I mean I. Listen, I wish you the best. We will take our pick, pick all the games for today and praise Myron sister more. That's next year.

Ian Fitzsimmons
Ian Fitzsimmons here, and I'm going to be brutally honest with you. I was skeptical about ordering plants online. Like this is actually going to show up alive at my house. But after my wife and I ordered from Fast Growing Trees, convinced they have this thing down to a science, they've built a whole system to protect your plants until they arrive. They even have a lab where they test against cold, heat, humidity, you name it, any condition, they've got it and they thrive. We couldn't believe how good our plants looked when they arrived at our doorstep and everything showed up exactly how we expected. A perfectly healthy plant that was easy to unbox and ready to go. Every order is backed by their Alive and Thrive Guerron tea. And you'll get ongoing support from real knowledgeable experts. They have unbelievable deals on spring planting essentials. And right now you can get an additional 20% off your first order with the Code Sports at checkout. That's 20% off@fast growing trees.com with the code Sports terms and conditions apply. Myron
Matt and Myron on ESPN Radio presented by Progressive Insurance. Fun day today. Ready to rock. Who is this? This is like something. Who is this?
Matt
Is this Kesha?
Producer/Assistant
Nope. This is Billie Eilish.
Matt
Oh, it is a Billie Eilish. Yeah.
Myron
Well, good for her. She's the Super Bowl. Yeah, I think she does. She must be doing well. We get you ready for all the games. What are you laughing at? The weekend. What am I supposed to say? I can't I don't have any, like, intense thoughts.
Producer/Assistant
Myron was so adamant that he was a Billie Eilish fan, that he knew about Billie Eilish and then just had nothing to add to the Billie Eilish rejoin.
Matt
I'm a fan of the, of. Of the idea of people like that.
Myron
On the idea of Billie Eilish. You like the idea of Billie Eilish? Yes, necessarily. Her actual music. Just the, Just the, The idea.
Sean McVay
Yeah.
Matt
That's what it's about.
Sponsor Voice 2
I like how you were basing how popular an artist was by how much money you had to send to your daughters so they could get.
Myron
Can I ask you a question? Let me ask you a question about the idea of Billie Eilish. If I were to ask you, before we do this real quick, describe to me the idea of Billie Eilish. What would you say?
Matt
Vibes, man. Hip, trendy, great singer, really connects with the audience. Talented songwriter, I think. I think all those things for sure.
Myron
Can you give me a couple of her big songs?
Matt
Not off the top. There's a song called Moonlight. I think.
Myron
I know that was a movie.
Producer/Assistant
Yeah, the song from Barbie. That one. Her an Awesome.
Matt
I never saw Barbie.
Myron
Yeah. All right. Well, it sounds like you're a big fan. Let's get in. It is now time to take your pick.
Commercial Announcer
Take your pick.
Myron
You take your peak. It's time to take your pick with Matt and Myron. All right, what's up first?
Matt
Work with a bunch of jerks, man.
Sponsor Voice 2
Let's, let's, let's go through these NBA games real quick. We have the Cavs at the raptors. Cavs are minus 4.5 on DraftKings. Who you got? Matt?
Myron
This. You know, the Raptors been competitive, but I think we're going to have a game. This is the James Harden game. Today. Today. I think he's going to show up. It's not game seven. That's when things are tough for him. But game four. They should call James Harden. Game four, because I feel like that's when he shows up. He's a game four guy. The Cavs win today with Harden.
Matt
I mean, RJ Barrett went off for Toronto. I mean, that was a big game he had. But I do think the Cavs kind of regroup. I don't think they can play more poorly than they did down the stretch of that game. I think the Cavs win here.
Myron
What's next?
Sponsor Voice 2
Spurs at Blazers, game three. Spurs lead the series two to one. And spurs are also four and a half point favorites on DraftKings. You can hear this one in ESPN Radio. Coverage begins at 3:00pm Eastern.
Myron
It's only four and a half.
Sponsor Voice 2
Yep, four and a half.
Myron
All right, well, we're going to break the bank here on whatever is the official sponsor app of ESPN. I don't know what DraftKings perfect. That's the one I use on my regular. Well, I'm not allowed to say the other one, so I didn't know. So I was just like, all right, DraftKings perfect. On DraftKings, I'm taking the minus four and a half. Spurs win big.
Matt
So we don't know anything on Wimby yet.
Myron
Still go for it because if he plays, you got four and a half.
Matt
No Wimby. Give me the Blazers. I think they bounce back and win game four.
Myron
Wow. All right, what's next?
Matt
They give me the Spurs.
Sponsor Voice 2
All right, Celtics at Sixers. That's game four. Celtics lead the series two games to one and are also a seven and a half point favorite on DraftKings.
Myron
Imagine you got Sixers missed a chance here to get one. Give me the Celtics big seven and a half. I don't know if I'll do seven half, but Celtic, well, you might not. Celtics win and cover.
Matt
You know, much of a basketball nut I am. So I went back to the 2020 Kentucky team and I was looking at the box scores of that Tyrese Maxey Emmanuel Quickley team and how good they were down the stretch and looking at Maxi did it made me think, like, did that team have a better chance
Myron
than I really could have won the title. That team by the end of the year was playing great. Yeah.
Matt
I mean, here's Maxi with VJ Edge come. I mean, they just look like this incredible, stunning young back court. Paul George is finding ways to impact this series. I think the Celtics are too good. But if you're Giannis or someone who's looking to force their way out to find a young core to join, the Sixers are doing an incredible advertisement.
Myron
So who's winning? You didn't say who was winning.
Matt
I'll take the Celtics.
Myron
She said all that and you're not even picking the Sixers?
Matt
I mean, I think the Celtics are incredible. I think the Celtics can win it all.
Myron
You just wanted to go on a little. Okay, fair enough. What's next?
Sponsor Voice 2
Last NBA game of the night. Lakers looking for a sweep of the Rockets. They're up. But the Rockets are favored by four and a half points tonight on DraftKings.
Myron
When you got Matt, you'll know who's winning this game. About Five minutes into it, the Rockets will either roll over and get destroyed or they'll compete. If they compete, I actually think they will win this one and send it back to la. Give me the Rockets.
Matt
We don't know if Kevin Durant's playing yet, right?
Sponsor Voice 2
No, do not.
Matt
Okay. I think they still want. It's hard for me to imagine the Rockets getting swept. I mean, they are a train wreck, but they should have won game three. But you know, IME Adoka couldn't figure that out down the stretch. How to coach them. So I'll take the Rockets to get a win.
Myron
What's next?
Sponsor Voice 2
Let's go to baseball. Tigers at your Reds. Matt Kyder Montero on the mound for the Tigers. Rhett Louder on the mound for the Reds. Who you got here?
Myron
Can we talk about the Reds? 18 and 9. Lowest batting average in the league, but still 18 9. Ellie de la Cruz, summer of Sal Stewart. You got guys getting hot. Matt McClain hitting now. Nathaniel Lowe, who looks like an accountant from the 80s with a buttoned up polo shirt, had three home runs in the last two games. I think the Reds lose today. I don't like the pitching matchup, but still I'm excited about all things Red Legs.
Matt
You did all that to not pick them the same thing I just did.
Myron
I know, but I like the Reds. You're not a 76ers fan. I am a Reds fan.
Matt
The Tigers are going to win this, I think. I think Tigers are one of the best teams in baseball right now. The Reds are too, but give me the Tigers.
Myron
What's next?
Sponsor Voice 2
I got a few more here. Sunday night baseball here on ESPN Radio got moved. I believe the coverage will begin at 3:30pm Eastern. Angels at Royals. We got Reed Detmers on the bottom for the Angels and Seth Lugo for the Royals. Who you got here, Matt?
Myron
Reed Detmer. Is he related to Ty? I'm going to pick Reed Detmer. Not sure which of the teams he plays for, but I like the name Detmer and I'm going to go with the Reed Detmer team.
Matt
Reed Detmer sounds like one of those dudes, you know, when we couldn't get the real baseball game on Nintendo, like that's the dude who would be there. Read, Read.
Myron
Detmer, you know, Coming in as a relief pitcher. Reed Detmer, does he play for the Angels? Reed Detmer, California.
Sponsor Voice 2
Yeah, he'll be on the mountain.
Myron
Give me the Angels. This is a bit. It's a big Reed Detmer game.
Matt
In that game, it would be like the California Challengers or something.
Myron
Don't read Detmer.
Matt
All right, what's last without the licenses we got?
Sponsor Voice 2
We got a couple Stanley cup playoff games on ESPN today. Lightning at Canadiens. Canadians are up 2 to 1 in that series. Oilers at Ducks. Anaheim leads that series. Who do you got in these?
Myron
I'm going to take the Lightning and the Oilers. Two road teams get one. What do you think, Myron?
Matt
I like the Oilers, and I think Braden Point gets a couple of goals. I think for the Lightning to get this win.
Myron
Perfect. Myron, that's been.
Matt
James was impressed by that. He didn't think I knew what Braden Point was.
Sponsor Voice 2
That's good. That's a good pool.
Myron
Everybody pick the over on strikeouts for Reed Detmer. It's. It's Reed Detmer's world. We just live in it. Coming up next is game day. Jonathan Zaslow, of course. Keep him in an office and make him talk in a microphone. They don't let him leave. More sass.

Episode Title: Hour 3: Just Here for the Vibe
Date: April 26, 2026
Hosts: Myron Medcalf, Matt Jones (ESPN Radio)
This hour of Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron brings a lively mix of NFL draft reactions, deep NBA playoff analysis, team chemistry takes, and a few fun banter detours—touching on music, family stories, and the "vibe" of Portland. The hosts navigate hot-button topics (like the Rams' surprising draft pick), legendary athlete longevity, and under-the-radar NBA teams, all with their signature humor, candid opinions, and the occasional offbeat tangent.
True to the show's reputation, Matt and Myron swap sharp sports takes with playful candor and cultural allusions, never missing an opportunity to rib each other, go down a side track, or puncture the seriousness of sports debate with a well-timed joke. The language is casual, slightly irreverent, and leans as much on personality as expertise.
For listeners or readers who missed the episode, this hour offered:
