The podcast Happy Easter to everyone out there here Sunday morning. Matt, Myron, a lot of you might be getting in your car after an Easter service on the east coast, or you may be on your way to Easter on the West Coast. Myron Metcalf and I, you know, we. Normally on Easter Sunday, I would be in church. I'd be wearing my. When I was a kid, they called them Easter clothes. Myron. Easter suits.
Myron Metcalf
Oh, yeah.
Matt
Oh, yeah. I used to have my Easter suits. I'd go buy my little tie. Sometimes if you. If the weather was good, they get you an Easter suit that also had matching shorts. Did you ever do that when you were a kid?
Myron Metcalf
We didn't do shorts. We. But yeah, definitely a suit. Definitely suit. And then the shoes were big at our church. Shoes were big. Yeah, the shoes were big. Yeah, definitely. And then we, we did Easter speeches. I don't know if y'all did that.
Matt
What's an Easter speech?
Myron Metcalf
You'd, like, remembered, like, some speech that's like some like, poem or something Easter related and you had to, like, go up and perform in front of the church. It was a big thing.
Matt
Poem. You would, like, read. Like.
Myron Metcalf
Well, I mean, guys like me, I didn't read. Guys like me didn't read. I, you know, memorized everything. But, like, some people read. But I was a. More of a.
Matt
So you would.
Myron Metcalf
It was all up here.
Matt
Give me an example. Like, what kind of poem are we talking about? It's about, About.
Myron Metcalf
I don't know, like, I don't know. Yeah, like an Easter. Easter poem.
Matt
Like a Bible verse.
Myron Metcalf
It could be that sometimes. But, like, I guess I took pride in. I took pride in. Some people read. I memorized mine, though. So, I mean, it was a big deal.
Matt
I like, you call Bible verses poems. Like, you like, you know, there's.
Myron Metcalf
Some of them were, though some of them were like poems that people made up, like, about Easter. But like I said, I took Pride in. I would see people walk up with a piece of paper and they're reading with no, no disrespect to them, but people saw me, no paper. They were kind of amazed by that. They knew I was coming off the top of it. I don't have one, I don't have one memorized now, but, you know, it'd be something about the, you know, the resurrection, Easter and the third day and Resurrection. Yeah, it'd be all that kind of stuff.
Matt
Yeah. Yeah. Well, good. Well, this is Easter Sunday.
Myron Metcalf
I thought you'd be more impressed that I memorized when most people were reading.
Matt
Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
I'm just saying at an early age it showed some.
Matt
Most people can memorize something. I would have been more impressed if you wrote it. Like, if you wrote a poem. I would be impressed with that. I'd like to read a Myron Metcalf poem. Just memorizing like I was eight. Yeah. I mean, I memorized like Robert Frost when I was a young child.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, that's, that's, that's, that's the thing.
Matt
Well, good. I would.
Myron Metcalf
So I knew Biggie Smalls, you know, same thing.
Matt
So. Happy Easter to all who, who celebrate that. Today. I'm meeting my, my parents this afternoon. My parents wanted to have Easter dinner. Would you like to know what time they wanted to eat? What time?
Myron Metcalf
It's early.
Matt
Would you like to know? I mean, Easter dinner. So my mom asked me for Easter dinner. I have in my mind. Yeah, I don't know, 6, 6:30? You wanna know what time we're meeting for Easter dinner? Four. Four? Yeah. Again, when are you, how are you supposed to schedule meals around a 4 o'clock dinner? AM I supposed to eat lunch? Skip lunch. Four is like. I can't think of a worse time to eat than four. And try to run around your appetite. Right. That's good today because you can, you can go have dinner and then be home for WrestleMania night too. No, I actually, I am glad about that. But as far as like just scheduling my dietary, you know, evening. I don't know what you're supposed to do mine with the 4 o'clock dinner.
Myron Metcalf
That's tough. Yeah, because you don't want to overeat. Now, see, my challenge as a kid was, you know, Easter. They'd say we'd start like at once. It was more around lunchtime. You go after church, like my cousin's house or my auntie's house, but like the food's not being served till four. So like it was the three hour gap from when you got to the house to when the food was served, that got you as that was the real problem.
Matt
She also said to me, I've got us a reservation at 4. I was like, mom, no one's eating at 4. I think we could have walked in.
Myron Metcalf
I think we could have left in.
Matt
At 4 and been completely fine in the restaurant at 4 o'clock.
Myron Metcalf
I will say older, older people and my parents included, they do love reservations. Like reservations are very, are very important to them. To feel like someone is holding a spot at that restaurant.
Matt
I just know we're going to.
Myron Metcalf
Even if nobody goes to that restaurant.
Mikey
Sure the restaurant's gonna be open at 4.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Matt
I don't know. We're gonna walk in and we're gonna go reservation for three. And they're gonna look and go, do you see? There's no one in here. You didn't need to have that anyway.
Myron Metcalf
It's a, it's a thing they do though, like this.
Matt
I look forward to my parents. Now. What I may miss are some of these NBA playoff games. Game ones. You got Memphis and okc. You got Orlando and Boston, Miami and Cleveland, Golden State and Houston. I mean the one that sticks out of those is the late one tonight. Clearly Golden State, Houston. I mean staff against this young team of Houston Rockets. I'm excited about this series, Byron. I think it can go either way. Like, I mean Golden State is the betting favorite, which is crazy considering Houston's a 2 seed. What do you think is going to happen in this one?
Myron Metcalf
You said people don't know SGA and OKC. Houston may be the most unknown 2 seed in the history of the playoffs. Like, I mean, I don't think anyone knows who's playing on Houston's roster nationally, but certainly they know all the stars on Golden State side. So it is interesting. I mean Houston has been an incredible defensive team. There are two C4 reason Golden State had to stumble into the playoffs even after the Jimmy Butler trade.
Matt
Okay, don't say any, don't say any names of players. I want to, I want to get bring back since this works so well earlier. Mikey, since you gave us such good facts about sga, right, let's play a game with Mikey.
Mikey
James, how many.
Matt
Hang on. How many players on the Houston Rockets can Mikey name? All right, first, Myron, I want you to guess how many players do you think Mikey will be able to name from the Houston Rockets roster this year?
Myron Metcalf
2.
Matt
James, I want you to guess how many can Mikey name from the Houston Rockets roster? 1. 1. I was I'm going to. You know, Mikey, I'm going to believe in you. I'm going to believe in you and I'm going to say you can get three. All right, so let's get started. Name current members.
Mikey
Current.
Matt
Houston Rockets. He said current.
Myron Metcalf
Like you wanted to see a team. What do you mean current? You just going to name old Rockets like you thought you Moses Malone and get away with it?
Matt
Go ahead.
Mikey
Sanguine. Is that James guy?
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, that's Sengun.
Matt
Yes. I'll give you Sengun. You don't. You don't have to get Alperin. Sanguine is good. There's one.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Mikey
Then I'm have to call. No joy after that. Yeah, I think I'm done.
Matt
You're done with Sengu.
Myron Metcalf
You didn't try. Why did you try one?
Matt
You got.
Myron Metcalf
Why did you even try?
Mikey
Yeah.
Matt
Gosh. Wow.
Myron Metcalf
How do you remember the most difficult name on the team? How did you get that one? But no one else.
Matt
Here's my point about that. It's not just a mock, Mikey, although I do enjoy doing that. This is a man who works in sports talk radio and has to listen to people talk about sports for six hours a day. And Myron, he can only name one player on the two seed. You're exactly right. People don't know this team like I'm in. Thompson has had one of the most freakishly athletic defensive seasons you'll ever see. He is an absolute phenom of an athlete. And again, maybe some people remember that he's a twin, but besides that, no one would know one thing about him.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, and I mean, if you tell me it's okc, because again, small market teams always have a tough time breaking through. OKC isn't in the primetime spot a lot of times on ESPN or tnt. Houston has been, you know, a couple times. But I just think they're a young team and this is happening, I think, to other squads as well, without a real star, like a nationally recognized star. And I think that to me, when people say it was hurting the NBA, part of it to me is like you had James Harden here and Chris Paul over there and Kawhi Leonard over there. Every team kind of had a big name and this Houston team just doesn't.
Matt
Yeah, they don't.
Myron Metcalf
And I think that's why a lot of people don't really know him.
Matt
You got Jalen Green, you got Jabari Smith, you know, Fred Van Fleet and his Band with the Beat. Steve.
Mikey
Dylan Brooks, he's there, too.
Matt
Dylan Brooks is on the team. I'm excited about that, by the way, with Dylan Brooks. I cannot wait.
Myron Metcalf
And Draymond.
Matt
Dylan Brooks and Draymond, they are going to fight and it's going to be fun to watch. That may be my most excited thing.
Myron Metcalf
How do you feel about Jalen Green, 21, dating a 40 year old as a 21 year old son? You think? Have you heard about that? Do you know about that? No.
Matt
What is it? Jalen Green dates a what? Good.
Myron Metcalf
He's dating a 40 year old who. Who has a 21 year old son who comes to the games his same age.
Matt
So that's all right.
Myron Metcalf
Nothing wrong with that.
Matt
Like we older. I mean, Bill Belichick's dating the 25 year old and let's.
Myron Metcalf
That's a, that's a. The 40 year old, that's becoming a bigger story too. But that's becoming a bigger story. Yeah, but I'm a Thompson.
Matt
Like we're used to men dating younger women. Why older women date younger men? Like it's totally equal rights. I'm equal to being in Fort Myers. Ben, go ahead, Ben.
Caller
Hey, I. Myron, reservations are crucial. I was in Vegas for Wrestlemania. I went to Caesar's Palace Bacchanal Buffet.
Myron Metcalf
I Great buffet.
Caller
Oh, incredible. I reserved the place. I get there at 4pm their time and the reservation is for getting in line. It's not a table.
Myron Metcalf
Yep.
Caller
But it went smooth. But holy cow, how great.
Myron Metcalf
So yeah, but Vegas is like a different world.
Matt
So you went to. What's the name of the buffet? The Bacchanal Buffet.
Caller
It's at Caesar's Palace Bacchanal Buffet.
Matt
So makes it so great. What makes it so great for people who haven't been able to go, it's.
Caller
Around the world buffet. You can get food from the Philippines.
Myron Metcalf
You can get Asia, South America, anywhere.
Caller
Brisket, lobster.
Myron Metcalf
But, you know, maybe some of the best brisket west of the Mississippi.
Matt
But it's all coming out of the same kitchen. Does that worry you to have so many different kinds of food coming out of the same kitchen?
Myron Metcalf
You think, you don't think, you don't think, like chefs are multilingual. Like they can't do.
Matt
I generally have the view that in a restaurant, the more things you cook, the worse you are at those things. Like I want a restaurant that has a few things that they do really well. Yeah.
Myron Metcalf
But I think chefs are talented. Like the best chefs can. But I mean, I've been to that buffet and it is legit. I mean, that buffet is. If you go to Vegas, like that is the buffet in the casinos.
Matt
All right, well, I appreciate the call. I do. Like he went there for Wrestlemania and then yesterday he says he went to the buffet at 4. That's literally when WrestleMania started was 4pm Pacific time. Yesterday my man went to Vegas for WrestleMania and just skipped the WrestleMania for the buffet.
Myron Metcalf
It sounds like, well, he may not have had tickets. I think Vegas is one of those places where you just go. Cause the event is in town.
Matt
But he clearly didn't even want to watch it. He went to the buffet instead of going to a place he might, he.
Myron Metcalf
Might have got there. I saw a guy I knew, I saw a guy I knew front row, you know, was pretty crazy to see.
Matt
What do you mean a guy?
Myron Metcalf
Wrestlemania.
Matt
Like was it like that front row? Wasn't it all celebrities or was it.
Myron Metcalf
Well, rich people too? I know a guy was really rich guy sitting there. He was near the Naz Reed dude. So like, yeah, it was pretty. I like, I mean, how much you think those tickets were?
Matt
I like, he just goes, I it's a rich dude. My man's dropping names even of random.
Myron Metcalf
No, but I mean.
Matt
Sunday morning here on ESPN Radio, we will take our pick and pick the big games of the day. That's next.
Myron Metcalf
Matt and Myron the podcast.

Myron Metcalf
Got mad at me about that Grizzlies.
Matt
And Thunder right after this coverage begins at 12:30 with Mark Kestrer and PJ Carlissa. Mo. I want to quickly go out to my man Robert in Raleigh, you know, Carolina Hurricanes playing the New Jersey Devils. My canes at 3:00 in the playoffs. It's Easter. It's also 4:20. Robert, are you excited about the canes today?
Robert
Oh, yeah. Hey, the tailgates are open and can I claim to be on the Dr. Pepper call in hotline?
Matt
You can. We don't call. You can.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah.
Robert
Hey, cuz, listen. 473 times trying to get on the Dr. Pepper call in hotline. I kept track and I never got through on multiple shows. So yeah, I'm definitely on the Dr. Pepper call in.
Matt
473.
Myron Metcalf
Counting.
Matt
A lot of these people, they say they're taking calls, but they don't. That's the good thing with Matt Meyer. We actually take calls from people like you, Robert. So let's get this win today tells. Tell Aho and Svetchnikov we need some goals.
Robert
Hey, sir, you've even had to talk me off your show before because we're all former and future callers. It's not our show, it's your show. Don't try and over talk the host. Okay, so you've had to kick me off before.
Matt
I'm gonna kick you off right now, too.
Myron Metcalf
He was trying to take over the show then.
Matt
Yeah, it's not your show, it's our show. So just, just know that it is now time to take your pick.
Mikey
Take your pick.
Matt
You take your pick.
Myron Metcalf
It's time to take your pick on Sunday morning. All right.
Matt
It's time to pick the games of the day. Mikey, what's up first?
Mikey
Can we do some wrestling real quick or will that mess up, spoil?
Matt
Why not?
Mikey
All right.
Myron Metcalf
Of course.
Mikey
WrestleMania 41 tonight, night two. Let's go over some of the big matches. AJ Styles versus the Internet sensation Logan Paul. Who you guys got in that?
Matt
Yeah, it's tough because I, I want to pick AJ Styles. He's the best at it, one of the best technicians, but I think they're going to keep the Logan Paul train running. I hate to say he's good at it, but he is. I think he's going to one day wrestle for a title. So I think Logan Paul wins. But this should be a great match. My.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I mean it feels like there's a lot. What do they call that? A push? Is that where they back a particular wrestler to try to move them, to.
Matt
Like, give somebody a push? You're right.
Myron Metcalf
Feels like Logan Paul is at a push for a couple years now, and I think this will just be an extension of that.
Matt
So he's a good heel because I think in real life, he also kind of, like, sucks, and so making him a bad guy in wrestling, it works really well, and he does a great job at it. So good to him. Who's next?
Mikey
All right, one that I'm really excited for. The triple threat match for the Women's World Championship. Iyo sky, who's the champion now, versus Bianca Belair and Rhea Ripley?
Matt
Yeah, I'm gonna take Rhea Ripley because she's a former OVW alumni, and as an OVW alum, I support all people who used to wrestle in my organization. So go OVW and go Rhea Ripley tonight. Myra.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, I'll go with Bianca Blair for obvious reasons. I mean, I think, you know, I think, you know, she. She's a star. She's one of the reasons that I think people tune in. And I just. I just love everything about her personality and how she approaches the. The sport, you know? So I'll go with Bianca.
Mikey
All right.
Matt
Sound like Mike Francesca talking about college basketball.
Myron Metcalf
Okay, so I'm trying to talk wrestling, y'all, and make fun of me. Like, I mean, what do I do here?
Matt
Stands for everything that's good for the sport.
Myron Metcalf
But you all take it so seriously. And then I take it seriously, and you're like, oh, you sound like you.
Matt
Try to be woo.
Myron Metcalf
To be like, come on, man.
Mikey
All right, and then the main event, the undisputed WWE Championship match. Cody Rhodes vs. The Villain Johnson.
Matt
Cena 2 OVW going against each other. So I don't know what to do. Both of these guys once wrestled at historic Davis arena on Shepherdsville Road, but this is going to be the Summer of Cena. So John Cena is going to win the Summer of Cena in his last year's wrestling. He wins this before dropping it right before he retires. Give me John Cena to win.
Myron Metcalf
I hope John Cena has a mirror at his house, because there's no way he'll be able to look at it after understanding, I think, what he's done to break the hearts of kids all over the world. He can't win. It's not invited. He cannot win. Cody Rhodes has to win.
Matt
This is.
Myron Metcalf
This is bigger than Wrestling, this, this is about legacy. And you know, to me, you got to end the heel turn tonight somehow. Like you got to make John Cena go back to being the John Cena that we've known and loved. But I tell you what, if he wins this match and the Hill thing continues, take all the mirrors out of your house, John Cena, because you won't be able to look at them and feel the same way about yourself.
Matt
Nice. What's next?
Mikey
Let's go. League's NBA playoff games right after us right here on ESPN radio. Grizzly Thunder game one. Thunder. According to ESPN bet 13 and a half point favorites. Myron.
Matt
Wow, that's a lot. Thunder. It's gonna thunder in a route. The Grizzlies just had to play two nights ago. This is. I mean, I want to promote the game here on ESPN Radio, but to be honest with you, my. It's going to stink. Thunder and route.
Myron Metcalf
But our number's like 13 and a half. Kind of ridiculous. I mean isn't that like a little bit?
Matt
They're going to win by 30. Like it's going to be. I would. Would you bet? Would you take the 13 and a half?
Myron Metcalf
I'm going to pick OKC to win. If you want to make some money, give me some Myron's bet. If I had some Myron's bets music I would put. Memphis will cover.
Matt
All right, I'll take that bet. We could bet. We'll. We'll bet it. Winner gets to make fun of the other one tomorrow next show. What's next?
Mikey
All right. Also 3:30 on ABC. Another 13 and a half point spread. Magic at Celtics. Boston with the big spread on that one.
Matt
Guys, I don't understand why these 13 and a half point spreads are the main games day. Boston win. Orlando is a zombie team right now. Boston's going to sweep them and it starts tonight.
Myron Metcalf
Yeah, Boston might sweep everybody. I mean they have that kind of potential. I think especially in the Eastern Conference they'll win today. But you know, I don't know who stands in their way from winning another chance.
Matt
Cleveland could beat him. Cleveland can.
Myron Metcalf
Certainly not in a seven game series.
Matt
Yes, they can. They've beaten. They've played them better than anyone has all year. What's next?
Mikey
Speaking of Cleveland, they played 7:00, they host the Heat and they're only 12 and a half point favorites.
Matt
Yeah, I could see the Heat keeping this Heat will win one of these games but again they just played the other night so they're not winning this one. I'll take, I'll take Cleveland at home again.
Myron Metcalf
I don't know how many people know how good Cleveland has been. You know, it's another team coming into these playoffs and it's like, you know, Darius, obviously Mitchell and Darius Garland, everything they've done, I think they win big and it's going to be fun to see how far they can go.
Matt
All right, last one.
Mikey
Nightcap tonight. Warriors at Rockets Houston. Only a point and a half favorites according to ESPN bet.
Matt
Gonna be a great series. Can't wait to watch these. This is the only series along with Denver Clippers I'm gonna make sure I don't miss a game of starts tonight. I'm gonna say Steph comes out, puts a punch in the face. Golden State pulls the upset in game one. Give me the Warriors. What do you got?
Myron Metcalf
Give me the Warriors. But I think it's gonna be because playoff Jimmy. This is why they signed Jimmy Butler, literally for moments like this is why he's on and I think this is Golden State's game.
Matt
There's going to be some random dude for Golden State, by the way, that none of us know whose name's like Bart Jenkins who comes off the bench and hits five threes tonight. Just wait and see. They got like 20 random guys named like Bart or, or Hampton or Darius or something. They're all coming on and they're hitting Myron. Enjoy the rest of your Easter. Thank you all very much. Games next. This is Sunday Morning.

Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron – Hour 3: Overlooked 2 Seed
Release Date: April 20, 2025
In the third hour of the "Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron" podcast, hosts Matt Jones and Myron Metcalf delve into a variety of topics, blending personal anecdotes with in-depth sports analysis. This episode, titled "Overlooked 2 Seed," primarily focuses on the Houston Rockets' unexpected rise in the NBA playoffs, interspersed with lighter conversations and listener interactions.
The episode kicks off with Matt and Myron sharing nostalgic memories of Easter Sunday traditions. They reminisce about childhood experiences with Easter suits and the unique practice of delivering Easter speeches at church.
Matt (00:33): "Normally on Easter Sunday, I would be in church. I'd be wearing my Easter suits."
Myron (02:05): "Some of them were like poems that people made up, like, about Easter."
The conversation highlights the personal significance of these traditions and sets a warm, conversational tone for the episode.
Transitioning to sports, Matt and Myron pivot to the NBA playoffs, spotlighting the Houston Rockets as a surprising second seed. They discuss the team's defensive strengths and the general lack of national recognition compared to other playoff contenders.
Matt (05:53): "It is interesting. I mean, Houston has been an incredible defensive team."
Myron (06:26): "Houston may be the most unknown 2 seed in the history of the playoffs."
The hosts express admiration for the Rockets' defensive prowess and lament the absence of marquee names that typically draw national attention. They compare the Rockets to teams like Golden State, which, despite their talent, may stumble through less recognized teams like Houston.
To emphasize the Rockets' obscurity, Matt introduces a segment where listener Mikey is challenged to name current players from the Houston Rockets roster.
Matt (06:40): "How many players on the Houston Rockets can Mikey name?"
Myron (06:55): "I think anyone knows who's playing on Houston's roster nationally, but certainly they know all the stars on Golden State side."
Mikey struggles, successfully naming only a couple of current players, underscoring the Rockets' lack of widely recognized talent.
Mikey (07:15): "Sanguine is that James guy?"
Matt (07:19): "I'll give you Sengun."
This segment serves to highlight the Rockets' status as an under-the-radar team in the playoffs.
Despite the Rockets' obscurity, Matt and Myron acknowledge key players contributing to their success.
Matt (09:17): "You got Jalen Green, you got Jabari Smith, you know, Fred VanVleet and Dylan Brooks."
