It has been so great to be back in the saddle with my friend Myron Metcalf hosted this show for many years together. It was so fun, so enjoyable. People who worked on it couldn't stop talking about how great a time they had on it. So much so that they said, matt Schick, we're good with you. Take a hiatus. But it was totally fine. And. And we're back. We're back here on good terms with Myron Metcalf here on ESPN Radio. It's been good. It's been fun. Like riding a bike.
Matt Schick
Yeah. Like old times. Like old times, man. We're only missing like Ja Rule, man. You know, like Ja Rule bit. We. It's like old times, man.
Larry Mize
We had so many bits and skits and things and a related story. It was during COVID so there were nothing. There was nothing to talk about. So all we did was are we ready? That was. That was Ja Rule at halftime getting ready for a seller, getting ready for a performance. But it was. Was it Sanchez? Was it Sanchez? Sanchez, DJ Sanchez.
Matt Schick
DJ was gone or something like he was not ready.
Larry Mize
That's why the ready was 10 seconds long as he said that to buy time.
Matt Schick
It was a Sunday morning with we. We also have some piano bit that I don't remember. There was a piano thing. You remember that we did something with like a piano. We had a Nick Saban.
Larry Mize
We had a Dueling banjos and Jim Fisher when they were fighting and they were fighting about, oh, I like this guy Jimbo saying I like it.
Matt Schick
Nick Saban, man. Yes.
Larry Mize
No, that was Jimbo Fisher dueling banjos where he was bouncing forth back and forth on I like Nick. Oh, he cheated. I love Nick, I respect him. I hate him. And we did that bit. But we also had the. When Nick, when Nick Saban is at the podium banging his hands, it sounded like the bongos, the bonkos.
Matt Schick
That's what it was. Big saving with the bongos, man. Do we, do we have any of this Stuff in the system. I don't know if we do, but.
Larry Mize
I don't think we go way back. Yeah, like, you see, that all got purged. It all got purged. Classic during the recession. Matt Schick, Myron Metcalf, Sunday morning on ESPN Radio. Back here with you and back here talking about the final round of the Masters. Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy going at it for their respective first green jackets. On one side, you've got a player who is very beloved, has energized. The crowd, is a hero to many, and they want to see him finally win his green jacket. On the other side, you have Rory McIlroy. And this is going to be very interesting to track here, Myron, because you've got two golfers who are. It's old school, it's new school, it's, can this guy get over the hump? It feels like Bryson DeChambeau today is playing with house money here almost where no, he hasn't won a green jacket, but the pressure's not on him to win it. The joy you saw of him coming off of 18 green yesterday, I feel like, is the attitude he's going to have internally going into this. I'm trailing, I'm. I'm down two strokes. I'm going up against a guy who blew it in the US Open. I took it from him. If I just play decent, I'm going to have a good chance of winning this thing, and all the pressure's on him to win it.
Matt Schick
I mean, Bryson is talking like he feels like Roy is going to collapse again. And I just wonder how Roy's going to adapt to the emotions of this moment. Not just his own emotions, but Bryson, to me, is going to use the crowd to his advantage. Like, I think Bryson, by the time we get midway through today between those two, the crowd at least will be on Bryson's side. The cheers will be for Bryson. And I think that, to me, is probably Rory's greatest fear, is what happens if he hits a few bad shots. Bryson's getting the crowd into it, and all of a sudden the entire vibe changes. Rory's talked a lot about him staying mentally focused in these moments, writing himself notes, you know what I mean? On the course, he's had to do a lot of work because this has been something that has haunted him. And to play a guy like that who's playing carefree, it's the worst possible situation, I think, for Rory trying to complete this Grand Slam.
Larry Mize
Bryson DeChambeau again won the US Open. Rory had the lead biffed on a three foot putt and that allowed Bryson to go up and down and win it. He here's Bryson on if he and Rory have talked since that day. Not really.
Myron Metcalf
He said congrats at the British Open and at the Open Championship.
Larry Mize
Excuse me.
Myron Metcalf
And that's pretty much it.
Larry Mize
We've been fine ever since.
Myron Metcalf
It's not really been an issue.
Larry Mize
It's just going to be a fun day tomorrow. I'm really excited for the test. I mean, of course you are. And you hear that, oh, it's been fine. There was a video clip that I hadn't seen until this morning that I sent to you guys and a few of you had seen it there, the group text. But it was of like before some event. It wasn't a PGA event, it was some, some sort of showcase that they were at. And Rory said something like, yeah, I'd really like to get back at Bryson for taking that for, for what he did to me at the U.S. open. And Bryson's response was, well, to be honest, you kind of did it to yourself. And they both had microphones on or at least Bryson did, or people heard it was more of a showcase and everyone's laughing at it. But I mean, the truth hurts. And that's what happened to Rory and it's happened to him time and time again. And so I wonder, Myron, would a win for Rory be just as positive or more positive than a loss would be negative or bad for him? Because you've got the two stroke lead, you don't know when your next chance is going to be. It's been 10, it's been 11 years since you've won a major, let alone ever winning a green jacket. And if you let this opportunity go by, you just wonder, more net positive, more net negative with a win or a loss.
Matt Schick
I think definitely net negative. I mean, if he wins completing the Grand Slam, which I think only five players have done in the Masters era, I mean, I could be wrong, but I think it's only five guys. So he joins a very short list of modern golfers who have managed to win all four majors. And I think that's incredible. At the same time, I think for a lot of people it would not completely erase the last decade of his career. So for him, if he loses in this situation, which by the way, he won his last four majors when he go went into Sunday with elite, so he's four and oh, with a lead starting on Sunday in a major championship, now that hasn't happened in more than A decade. But he has won every time he's been in this position with the exception of, I believe the 2011 Masters. But if he loses, Matt, it's beyond golf. It's, you did it again. It's, you're, you're Bill Buckner. You know, you're, you're the guy who will be defined according to everything they failed to do and, and not according to what they achieved.
Larry Mize
I also think, Myron, it depends on how it happens. If it does, that's fair. Because if he shoots a 68 and Bryson shoots a 66 and they go to a playoff, or he shoots a 65 and wins, you tip your cap and you go, well, I just got beat. But if, you know, if this turns into. And again, this isn't going to happen. But you know, 2011, three shot lead, making the turn and you shoot 80. Yeah, eight over. How does that happen? You know, Greg Norman with a six shot lead going into the final day, loses to Faldo because he had a terrible round shooting in the high 70s. Like those things happen and that's where you remember. But if someone goes out and just beats you like Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, it's, hey, this is, this is a shootout. Here we are. Whoever has the ball last is going to win as Josh Allen. Yeah, you don't get over the hump, but at the same time it's Patrick Mahomes here. It's a two shot lead. You've got a seven point advantage. You're starting this game with the advantage with the lead. Can you hold on to it if you succumb to it? Depends on how it looks, I think.
Matt Schick
Yeah, I mean, I think it is like watching the Josh Allen in that situation throw three interceptions, you know, all of a sudden. Because the problem with golf and Ferrori is that there's no one else to blame. You know, you can't say the defense didn't do their job. You can't say a running back fumbled. It's all you. And I think that to me is why he faced such a different level of pressure. I think also the worst case scenario to me is you leading on the front nine. You're comfortable on the front nine and then on the back nine you just collapse. And we just. Because with golf, man, today we're going to be watching this thing. So it's not like a team game to watch hole after hole. If he fumbles again, if he collapses again, I think that would have a far more dramatic impact on his legacy than winning. Even though it would be the grand slam.

Sunday morning on ESPN radio. The ESPN app Sunday morning is presented by Progressive Insurance. Matt Schick. Myron Metcalf here with you on ESPN Radio just tells you how big the final round of the Masters is because we have not gotten to this story yet. But let's dive into it right now because what's going on in Knoxville is unprecedented. Could it be a tipping point, a change of course here in college athletics? We shall see. But it was announced Yesterday, Tennessee moving on from starting quarterback Nico Iamaliava. Josh Hyple telling reporters, no, no one is bigger than the program. This happened after Nico Emaliava was a no show at Friday's spring practice with the team. And that's basically what Josh Hyple said. He kind of knew that this thing was going to come to an end and that when they were going to cut bait with him. There were reports coming out late last week that the Tennessee Volunteers quarterback from last season was trying to get a better deal. Reportedly was already making more than $2 million a year, trying to get up to $4 million and perhaps even shopping himself around as the transfer portal opens next weekend. Here's Josh Hyple on the departure of his quarterback. Today's landscape of college football is different than what it has been. You know, it's unfortunate, you know, just the situation and where we're at with Nico, I want to thank him for everything that he's done since he's gotten here, you know, as a recruit to.
Unknown Speaker
Who he was as a player and.
Larry Mize
How he competed inside of the building. And so a great appreciation for that side of it, obviously, how we're moving forward as a program without him. You know, I said it to the guys today, there's no one that's bigger than the power T, and that includes me. And they hear me say that a.
Unknown Speaker
Lot inside of that team room.
Larry Mize
This program has been around for a.
Unknown Speaker
Long time with a lot of great.
Larry Mize
Coaches, a lot of great players that came before that laid the cornerstone pieces, the legacy, the tradition that is Tennessee football. It's going to be around a long time after I'm done and after they're gone. Myron, I don't know Nico Iamaliama. Other than just covering high school recruiting, I do national signing day on an annual basis for espn cover the Under Armour All America game. So I get to talk to some of these players. I don't know him at all. But by and large, what happens with these situations, whether it's in recruiting or in a situation like this, is you are getting advice from other people, whether it's family, now, agents that believe they have your best interest in heart in mind, but it's really their own. And that's what happens here. I just think, by and large, bottom line, Nico Yamalayama got bad advice and they went with it. The decision maker, whoever that is, father, whoever it is, played, thought they were holding the trump card and realized they had seven deuce. And that's what happened here with Nico.
Matt Schick
Yeah, I mean, it's a mess, but all of this is a mess, right? So for me, at the end of the day, I can understand being a player in the wild, wild west of nil and saying, wait a minute, there's more money to be made because there are no guardrails against that. Like, the system started this before we ever got to this situation. I think the other thing, and you know this, Matt, this is the first time something has reached this point to where someone said, hey, I'm not showing up to practice. I'm not playing in the spring game if you don't give me money. But behind the scenes, this is happening all the time across college sports. There are players going to coaches and saying, listen, you want me to play the second half of the season? You want me to come back next year? I need xyz. This has been happening across college sports. This is just the first public display of this being used as a negotiating ploy. But I think in Nico's case, I'm more concerned because he's going to get paid somewhere, right? Someone in the portal will pay him. I don't know if he'll get what he wanted. That seems unlikely, but he'll have a home somewhere. But the fact that there's nothing to prevent this, people are calling this a holdout. It's not a holdout. In the NFL if you hold out, Matt, you can be fined every single day that you miss practice. You can be fined every single game that you miss. This is a third party running college sports on behalf of teams, and we expect things to be seamless. So the system and what the NCAA has done with it, to me, is the main culprit in the whole situation.
Larry Mize
I did tweet out that it's shocking. In a system with multiple free agency periods and meaningless contracts, a player who thinks he has leverage would decide to hold out for more money. We have free agency periods multiple times. I've heard some people say, well, it's about the academic calendar. And this is the same portal period for all the sports. No, it's not. The basketball portal period opened during the tournament. The college football portal period is specific to football. It opens next week. So we're doing this every six months. We are getting into this. These contracts don't mean anything. This is the Whose Line is It Anyway? Era of college football. Money's made up. The contracts don't matter. And that's where we're at, people. You know, I hear a lot of, oh, Mark Emmert should have done Mark Emmert as villainous as he was and as empty suited as he was, was doing what the school presidents wanted him to do. The the NCAA is comprised of the member schools and is headed up by the presidents. And Mark Emmert answered to them. That's why when you look at Charlie Baker, nothing's happening. Nothing's happening. Whether he's incompetent or not, the school presidents are deciding this is what we want to have happen. And now we've had chaos, we've had giant overcorrection, we have inflated value of student athletes. And here's the other thing, Myron, and this was, this was a salient point brought up, is that when you start paying kids before they even perform in college, of course they, they're going to believe they're worth more once they get there. I mean, we part of espn. We're part of the problem too. We elevate these high school athletes right when they get into high school, we do all these all star games. We elevate them up to a certain point where their nil value is at such a height where they will get paid just to take visits in the recruiting business, let alone sign and play for the school. And so now you're a year in you go. Well, I should get more money. I was worth this before I even took a snap. My market value must be going up.
Matt Schick
Yeah, and I have no problem with that. I have no problem with guys getting paid and trying to capitalize on their market value. But again, the systemic issue is one that's being overlooked. Let's be clear. We all know this is pay for play. The contracts are not about performance. These nil deals are with collectives that are based on essentially promotional services, if you will. They're, they're not about what you do on the field specifically. So you've got these, these collectives controlling the talent pool on behalf of these universities already. You have a mess right then and there. Now Rev Share could change that, but it's already a mess with these third parties having that kind of power and influence. And then on top of it, there's nothing that stops a guy like Nico from saying, give me more money or else. There's nothing in place that can stop him from doing that. And I think there are probably people right now in the portal once it opens who are looking at that. And it may not be public, but they're probably going, hey, you know, I could leave too. It may not be on SportsCenter, but these are things that have happened in the NIL era consistently. We just didn't see us to see it to this degree. And where I disagree with the Mark Emmert element is the NCAA is also advising these school presidents and these athletic directors as well. I think it's a two way street. And there was an opportunity 20 years ago and I tweeted this where we all could have sat down and said, this feels like it's coming. Can we put in some sort of structure so that this doesn't become the chaotic mess we're witnessing now? And that didn't happen. And I think everyone is paying for what didn't happen 20 years ago right now.
Larry Mize
Do you remember when it was the Tennessee Attorney General a little more than a year ago?
Matt Schick
Yeah.
Larry Mize
Who was outside of the courthouse, Greenville, Tennessee, challenging the NCAA on behalf of Tennessee and their ability to compensate. Nico Iamaliava, before he even got to school and now kind of backfired a little bit. I mean, this is where they are. Again, no rules. However you want to do it, and Nico's well within his rights of doing that. If you can make more money, do it. What do they say? 99% of these athletes are going pro in something other than sports. You might as well make it now. But here's the surprising thing. Tennessee pulled it off. They are not the villain here. It feels like it's more Nico than Tennessee some way, somehow they've gamed, they beat the system, and they won the PR battle here. Meyer, that to me is the most surprising aspect of it.
Matt Schick
Yeah. It also feels like it's the beginning, not the end of things like this.
Larry Mize
What will it take for Rory to seal the deal today? A past Masters championship tells us next on ESPN Radio.

Norman now come to the 11th green. This is the second hole sudden death playoff for this year's Masters.
Unknown Speaker
How's that look?
Larry Mize
Words do not do justice to the greatness of that shot. Larry Mize, the 1987 Masters.
Unknown Speaker
There are great finishes and there are great finishes.
Larry Mize
This may be the best. Maybe we will get something like that today. It was April 12, 1987, 38 years ago yesterday that Larry Mize on a playoff hole, the second playoff hole, par four, 11th, was able to chip in for Bertie. And it's unbelievable. Larry Mize joins us now here on ESPN Radio. Larry, when you hear that audio, I'm sure you've seen the clip multiple times. When you hear that there, what are the emotions that go through you?
Unknown Speaker
Oh, well, it's great to be with y'all today. It's just still unbelievable. I'm kind of shaking my head here. Hearing that again is just so surreal. And, you know, it's, it's, it's, it's unbelievable. I think as you get older, you know, talking to Langer and Mark O'Mara, they feel the same way. You just, you, you grow to appreciate it even more as you get older, knowing how special it was and to hear that it never gets old and brings up the same emotions every time of just excitement, thrill, disbelief and, and just incredible.
Matt Schick
Larry, you've obviously been where Rory is in this situation. There's been a lot about Bryson Dechambeau and the emotion and getting the crowd into it and kind of what role that might play today. How did you, I guess, block things out? Were you looking at great? Like, how did you go about focusing with those stakes against someone like that who had the profile that obviously Greg Norman has, right?
Unknown Speaker
You know, you just got to stay in your, in your. I mean, I like what Rory said just after the round. You got to stay in your bubble. You got to stay in your area and play your game. You know, you can't be worried about the other person. And, you know, you've been there before with, with me and with Greg. You know, Sebi was in the playoff as well, but it's always me and Greg. But with Greg, I'd been in a playoff with him the previous year in 86 at Kemper for six holes, and he beat me. But, you know, when you're playing the golf course, you're not really thinking about anybody else. You're playing your game, taking advantage of the course when you can and making the shots that you need to to give yourself the best chance of making birdies. So, you know, you learn, you block everything else out, and if you can't do that, you're in a lot of trouble.
Larry Mize
One of the great things about Augusta, for those that have attended as fans, is that you actually have to live the experience. You can't be staring at your phone. They don't allow that there. So you're just. You're walking around, you're looking at the T sheet and the pairings. Okay, where are these roars? Where's the sound emanating from? The roars at Augusta are very different from any crowds noises at any other event. How would you describe how those can impact what the final group can do at Augusta?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I mean, you're right. The roars there. There's nothing like it. And I gotta say, and the one roar, there was nothing like the roar. When Palmer did something, there was nothing like that roar. You could be anywhere on the golf course and you heard a roar. Well, there was Arnold. Arnold just did something, so his was extra special. But the roars, the volume and the intensity of it is just. I never hear it at any other tournament. I've played all the majors and everywhere around the world, and I just never heard that kind of roar before. And, you know, it lets you know something special is done. Sometimes you don't know who's doing it unless it was Arnold. You know, everybody else is. Pretty much sounds the same, but, you know, something's happened, but once again, you just got to kind of keep your head down and keep playing. But as spectators and even as players, I love the roars. It's something that is unique to Augusta, and one of the other things that makes it so special.
Matt Schick
Larry, if Rory called you this morning before he heads out to the course, what would you tell him?
Unknown Speaker
Well, of course, first, he doesn't need me to tell him anything, but if anything, I would tell him was just continue to play your game, Stay focused on your game, and you know how to play this golf course. Stay patient. I mean, that's one of the things, I think the final round, any Round especially, but the final round in a major, you've got to really stay patient and just take what the course can give you. If you start trying to press the issue and get ahead of yourself, you're really in trouble. So you got to stay relaxed. One of the things I think is really big to do is between shots, have good thoughts and be relaxed as you can between shots because you're going to tense up when it comes time to hit the ball. So the more relaxed you are coming into the shot, the less tense you'll be when you actually get there. So just having good thoughts between shots, staying very positive and staying in the moment.
Larry Mize
Larry Mize, 1987 Masters champion. Joining us here, Matt Schickett, Meyer and Metcalf on ESPN Radio. You know the sport, you know the history of the sport and you know the story behind both of these golfers, but specifically Rory McIlroy, who has yet to win a Masters, and it's almost an indictment on his career that he has yet to win the Green Jacket also because of how he's faltered there at Augusta before. If he does not win today, how much of the criticism is fair for Rory McIlroy unable to close the deal yet again?
Unknown Speaker
Well, you know, it's probably according to what, how that happens today. You know, let's just say DeChambeau goes out and shoots 66 or 65. And Rory, what's Rory got? A two shot lead. Correct. So Rory shoots 69 and he loses. I don't think he should get any criticism, personally. I mean, he played a good solid round. If you're leading the golf tournament and you shoot in the 60s, definitely you shouldn't get any criticism if you lose. You just got to tip your hat to the other guy. If he plays poorly, he'll get some criticism. You know, me as a player, I'm going to take up for the players. I don't think he should get that much criticism no matter what because it's a difficult thing to do. I mean, there's only been no correct me what five guys that have done the Grand Slam. Is that correct?
Larry Mize
Yes, that's correct.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. So you, you know, he's trying to do something that just only a handful of guys have done. So, you know, I don't think he should get much criticism because it's a really difficult thing what he's trying to do. And I'm optimistic that he's going to go out there and play well and I think he's got a good chance to get it done. You know, and DeChambeau has a good chance as well. But I think sometimes the media can be overly critical and I just, I hope they're not too tough on him, Larry. No matter what happens if he doesn't win, I hope they're not too tough on him. Sorry, guys. Sorry.
Matt Schick
Yeah, no, sorry about that, Larry. It feels like Bryson has found a way to wield a crowd kind of in his favor and that no matter what happens, that they're going to be behind him. If you're Rory, how do you counter that? Is there any way that you can.
Unknown Speaker
Well, you know, I think you're going to get. It's going to be a combination. I mean, I think DeChambeau plays to the crowd as well as anybody. He does a wonderful job with that. I mean, it's really, it's really fun to see, but you're going to. There's going to be a lot that are going to be for Rory, too, so you're going to get both of it. Rory doesn't play to the crowd as much as. Well, nobody plays the crowd as much as DeChambeau does, I don't think. But he. Roy still going to have his crowd. So it's going to be a combination. But once again, the main thing is you just got to stay focused. An example for me, you know, I was fortunate enough to win three times in Japan and I'm playing with Joe Zaki and the Japanese are pulling for him. But I just, I said, hey, I don't blame him. I'd be pulling for him too if I, if I was a Japanese. But you just keep your head down, play your game. You. You really learn and you know, not to let that affect you. I mean, as tough as it may seem from the outside looking in, you just kind of know to play your game. And Rory's going to have enough people pulling for him that it'll be okay.
Larry Mize
Larry Myers, before we say goodbye, who are you pulling for today?

You know, you know, can't help but have a soft spot for Scottie Scheffler. I mean, he's just been a great champion. He's a great guy. And, you know, I've gotten to know Scotty in the champions locker room, so I can't have a pull for him. And, you know, I'm not pulling against DeChambeau. I hope he plays well. But, you know, it's hard not to pull for Rory because to have a chance to win that grand slam. But it's. No, Nothing negative to DeChambeau. DeChambeau is a wonderful player and a good guy. So the biggest thing I'm doing is I'm just looking forward to a great final round. You know, I'm going to sit back and watch it on TV and just enjoy it as I do every, every Sunday night that I've quit playing. It's, it's a, it's a great event and fun to watch.
Larry Mize
Larry Myers, 1987 Masters champ. Larry, thanks so much for sharing some time with us here on Sunday and enjoy the final round.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, great guys. Great to be with y'all. Thank you very much.
Larry Mize
Tell you what, Myron, he brings up a great point, one that we have not brought up. We said, who are you pulling for? His first answer was Scotty Scheffler. Oh yeah, Scotty Scheffler. Who's sitting there seven shots back. We have seen comebacks like this before. You know, if neither Rory nor Bryson win, I mean, who's going to win it out of this final group? The answer is Corey Connors in the second. That would be, that would be a giant letdown for this. But it's not out of the realm of possibility here.
Matt Schick
I mean, McElroy was seven back after the first round. We for, we forgot. That was two days ago. You know what I mean? So someone else can make a run too.
Larry Mize
That was like in 2019 when it was like Tiger and Koepka battling and out of nowhere Xander Shoffley like took the lead for a hot minute. Or Patrick Cantlay was like leading after the 16th hole. That would be what today is if like Corey Connors or somebody like Patrick.
Myron Metcalf
Reed ends up winning.
Larry Mize
Oh my goodness. Just, just ruin the entire thing. Of course, if Ludwig Oberg wins it, Ludwig Oberg, Myron would have to learn how to pronounce his name and that could be really, really trippy. Tune into baseball action tonight as the Dodgers host the Cubs. Matt Schick
You take your pick. It's time to take your pick on Sunday morning.
Unknown Speaker
All right, guys, as you said, lots of basketball, but first you gotta give your Masters predictions. Do you guys think it's gonna be Rory or Bryson or maybe this Connors guy? What do you say, Matt?
Larry Mize
I like how you put respect on the, on the name of Corey Connors by saying this Connors guy, how dare you besmirch the Canadian. I think Bryson DeChambeau gets it done today. I think he's playing loose. I think he's playing confident. I think there were you could have a list of a hundred other golfers that Rory would rather play with today. I think Bryson's in a, in a great spot. I'll take Bryson DeChambeau, or as Jeff Darlington likes to say, Bryson DeChambeau to win this thing today and don the green jacket for the first time.
Matt Schick
Yeah, I go with Rory. I mean, again, the collapse stuff is real, but he's won his last four majors when he was in the league going into Sunday. Now granted, the last one was over a decade ago, but he wins when he's in this spot. I'll pick Roy.
Unknown Speaker
All right, let's move over to the hardwood and we'll start with the exciting Eastern games.
Matt Schick
Magic at Hawks.
Unknown Speaker
All right, we'll start with Myron, Atlanta, one and a half point favorite, looking to extend its six game road win streak who do you got, Myron?
Matt Schick
Is anybody playing in the East? I think everybody's out, right? So, like, who's. Who's playing for the Magic? Like, what is it, Dennis?
Myron Metcalf
Fall.
Unknown Speaker
If the tree doesn't fall in the woods, do people hear it still? Come on.
Matt Schick
Yeah, I guess I'll go with Atlanta. They got a bunch of young guys that still might be wanting to get in and prove something on a game like this, even though the eastern standings are already set.
Larry Mize
Let me flip the coin here. Heads or tails? Yep. It does say tails. Atlanta is the victor today. I did like the fact, Mike, you see that you said. You know what they say, if a tree falls in the forest, do people hear it? If they're there? They do. I mean, if they're. If they're in the forest? They do, Mike. You see? All right, another tree.
Unknown Speaker
Moving on.
Matt Schick
Pointed. Ted. Celtics.
Unknown Speaker
All right, guys, according to ESPN, BET, Boston 11 and a half point favorites. Who you got? Myron?
Matt Schick
You know, Boston has nothing to win here. At the same time, I think the Hornets have some Cooper Flag stakes involved, so I think they're gonna even try even harder to lose. I'll pick the Celtics. Peyton Prince is probably had like 80 points or something like that. Give me the Celtics.
Larry Mize
Yeah, he'll. He'll get close to 30. Baylor Shireman, shout out to the former Creighton Blue Jay. I'll take the Celtics here. I don't know, but aren't the Hornets locked into like the third best lottery?
Matt Schick
Oh, they might be.
Larry Mize
Yeah, they might be of today. So they might be going down swinging here a little bit, but yeah, Celtics smart money. Even BPI says it's by 21. Hornets are dead money. Let's go. Set.
Matt Schick
Knicks at Nets.
Unknown Speaker
All right, this one is going to be playing Knicks and Nets battle in New York. Who you got, Myron? Knicks are playing for six and a half point favorite on espn.
Matt Schick
They're locked into the third seed, so nothing to prove for them. They'll rest everybody. But even a bad, you know, seven guys out or whatever for the Knicks could still beat the Nets. I'll take the Knicks.
Larry Mize
I'll take the Nets. Keon Johnson, Tyrese Martin, let's go. 20 plus points per each. Per each player. I'm taking the Nets here in a game that doesn't mean a whole lot for the Knicks.
Matt Schick
Pacers at Cavaliers.
Unknown Speaker
All right, potential second round matchup here. Pacers six and a half point favorites on espn. Bet. Myron.
Matt Schick
Again, you know, again, no one's playing.
Larry Mize
That's an evergreen statement like who's playing here today?
Matt Schick
Is this Dell Davis and Reggie Miller against. You know who's playing? I'll pick the Cavs. I guess both teams are going to rest a lot of people, but give me Cleveland.
Larry Mize
Give me. Yeah, give me. Give me Jared Allen and the Cleveland Cavaliers. Again, it's the Cavs and the Celtics in this entire thing. When we get to the Eastern Conference playoffs here, you know what? Too many guys are out. Give me the Pacers. Give me the Pacers.
Matt Schick
Wizards at Heat.
Unknown Speaker
Wizards of hate. Miami is a 8 1/2 point favorite. Corner ESPN bet. Wizards, of course, will end the season with the worst record in the East. But will they end on a positive note? Myron?
Matt Schick
They're fighting Utah for that top spot, right? One or two go to either one of them, I believe, right? So there's no incentive for them to win. Who are the Wizards playing? Who are they playing?
Unknown Speaker
Wizards and Heat.
Matt Schick
Give me the heat to win.
Larry Mize
Give me the heat. Mr. Kyle Anderson. Let's get it done. Khalil ware, Heat.
Matt Schick
Bulls at 76ers.
Unknown Speaker
Sixteen players listed on the Bulls Sixers injury report. Chicago, nine and a half point favorites.
Larry Mize
NBA envisioned this like the last day of the NFL. Hey, everyone's playing, folks. Everyone's playing. Yes, the laundry might be playing, the organizations might be playing, but it is a far cry to say everyone is playing. Nobody's playing in the Eastern Conference. Nobody.
Matt Schick
I mean, like, who are the Bulls going to go get? Who are they going to find? BJ Armstrong? Like, who? Who's going to play for them? I guess I'll pick the Bulls. Give me the Bulls.
Larry Mize
I guess Kobe White's gonna play, right? I'll take the Bulls as well.
Matt Schick
Pistons at Bucs.
Unknown Speaker
This is a good one. Pistons with a good season, but the Bucs, they could sweep the season series at four. And, oh, here. Detroit, though. Seven and a half point favorites on ESPN bet.
Matt Schick
Myron, I think seven players are out or at least listed on the injury report for the Bucs, who are locked into, I believe, the five seed, four seed, five seed behind Indiana.
Larry Mize
We had, we had Tim Legler on earlier and asked him about, you know, another player who's not going to play, Damian Lillard. They hope to get him back at some point in the postseason, but there's a chance that they don't. Marquee matchup today that you'll be able to see on your TV screen is a nice precursor to the Masters, but yeah, too many players are out. Give me the Pistons.
Unknown Speaker
All right, we're actually getting close on Time here.
Matt Schick
I don't think I picked. Give me the Pistons too. I don't think I picked.
Unknown Speaker
All right, well, let's get to some games that matter. Let's look at this.
Matt Schick
Jazz at Timberwolves.
Larry Mize
Why didn't we start with the Western Cop?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, that probably wouldn't have been a better idea.
Matt Schick
Why don't we start with the ones that nobody cares about?
Unknown Speaker
Man, I didn't think you guys would really be this slow at it.
Matt Schick
But why did you give us eight games where nobody is playing in those games? It's going to be a G league game. All those teams you gave us are G league teams at this point.
Unknown Speaker
All right, well, this is a big one.
Matt Schick
Jazz at Timberwolves.
Unknown Speaker
Minnesota needs to win to avoid the playing. Jazz need to lose to get the worst record. So Minnesota are 23 and a half point favorites on ESPN.
Matt Schick
B. Matt.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, Matt.
Larry Mize
I would, I would take the 24 plus the 24, but yes, give me, give me the T Wolves here.
Matt Schick
Yeah, we should have started with these, man. Like this is more compelling. Instead of giving us the Bulls and whoever they're playing, I mean the Timbers, a win. They could have avoided all this had they not given up that 26 point comeback by the Bucks early this week. Just ridiculous. They're not a serious franchise. I feel like right now Anthony Edwards lucky that he got the Tech rescinded so he can play today. But they just don't seem as focused as I think you need to be going into the postseason right now. So they'll win, but I don't think they'll win a whole lot beyond that. I don't think going into the postseason their team that a lot of people are high on. And I understand why.
Unknown Speaker
All right, one more real quick. This one. This is a big one.
Matt Schick
Clippers at Warriors.
Unknown Speaker
How come? This basically mandates what the playoffs will look like in the West. Golden State, four and a half point favorites on espn. Batman.
Larry Mize
Yeah, warriors are going to win this one.
Matt Schick
Why don't we start with that?
Larry Mize
I know.
Matt Schick
Biggest game of the day. Steph called it a game 7 like atmosphere. Why wasn't this number one? How is this the last one?
Larry Mize
Because the Bucks at Pistons said, hold my beer.

Sunday Mornings with Matt and Myron
Episode: Hour 3 - Will Bryson Win or Rory Lose?
Release Date: April 13, 2025
Timestamp: 00:35
The episode kicks off with hosts Matt Schick and Myron Metcalf warmly welcoming former guest Larry Mize back to the show. Larry reminisces about previous collaborations during challenging times, highlighting the camaraderie and fun they shared while producing the podcast. This reunion sets a nostalgic tone, celebrating the show's enduring spirit amidst past hiatuses.
Timestamp: 02:49 - 09:19
Hosts: Matt Schick, Myron Metcalf, and Larry Mize
Topic: The final round of the Masters Championship featuring Bryson DeChambeau vs. Rory McIlroy.
Larry Mize introduces the central theme of the episode: the intense competition between Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy as they vie for their first Green Jacket at the Masters. He sets the stage by emphasizing Bryson's beloved status among fans and the high expectations placed upon Rory to complete his Grand Slam.
Bryson DeChambeau:
Matt Schick notes Bryson's confident demeanor, suggesting that he feels Rory is likely to falter under pressure. Bryson's relaxed approach, stemming from a previous major win, positions him as a player "playing with house money."
"Bryson is talking like he feels like Roy is going to collapse again." [04:13]
Rory McIlroy:
Rory's focus on mental resilience is highlighted, as he strives to overcome past disappointments at Augusta. Matt expresses concern over how Bryson's ability to engage the crowd might affect Rory's concentration and performance.
"Rory's talked a lot about him staying mentally focused in these moments... this is the worst possible situation for Rory trying to complete this Grand Slam." [05:07]
Larry delves into the history between Bryson and Rory, referencing Bryson's US Open victory over Rory and their limited post-tournament interactions. Myron adds depth by recounting a light-hearted exchange between the two, showcasing their competitive yet respectful relationship.
"There's nothing negative to DeChambeau. DeChambeau is a wonderful player and a good guy." [32:44]
The discussion explores how Bryson's charismatic engagement with the crowd could sway audience support, potentially putting additional pressure on Rory. Larry compares this dynamic to past Masters moments, emphasizing the unique and electrifying atmosphere at Augusta.
"The roars at Augusta are very different from any crowd noises at any other event." [27:38]
The panel debates the ramifications of both possible outcomes:
Bryson Wins:
Securing his first Green Jacket would cement Bryson's legacy and fulfill his long-standing aspirations within the golfing community.
Rory Loses:
Another major loss could cast a shadow over Rory's illustrious career, intensifying media scrutiny and fan expectations.
Matt argues that a loss for Rory might have a more detrimental effect on his reputation compared to the positive impact of a Bryson victory.
"If he loses, it's beyond golf. You're the guy who will be defined according to everything they failed to do." [07:00]
Timestamp: 10:35 - 22:26
While the primary focus of the episode centers on golf, a significant segment addresses the tumultuous situation surrounding Tennessee's quarterback, Nico Iamaliava.
The Tennessee Volunteers have parted ways with quarterback Nico Iamaliava following his absence from spring practices. Reports suggest that Nico sought a substantial salary increase, aiming to move from over $2 million to $4 million, potentially leveraging the transfer portal.
Myron Metcalf and Larry Mize delve into the broader implications of Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) deals, highlighting how the evolving landscape empowers players to negotiate terms that were previously unattainable. They discuss the potential for increased holdouts and the strain it places on team dynamics and NCAA regulations.
"The system and what the NCAA has done with it, to me, is the main culprit in the whole situation." [19:30]
The conversation underscores the need for structured regulations to mitigate chaotic scenarios like Nico's holdout. The hosts express optimism that this incident signifies the beginning of a new era in collegiate athletics, where player autonomy and financial negotiations will play pivotal roles.
Timestamp: 24:07 - 33:35
Larry Mize, the 1987 Masters champion, provides invaluable insights by recounting his own experiences in high-stakes tournaments. He emphasizes the importance of maintaining focus, managing emotions, and staying resilient amidst intense competition and crowd pressures.
Drawing parallels between his career and Rory's current challenge, Larry advises:
"You got to stay in your bubble. You got to stay in your area and play your game." [26:17]
His reflections serve as both a motivational guide and a strategic blueprint for athletes navigating the pressures of elite sports.
Timestamp: 35:38 - 38:02
As the Masters unfold, Matt, Myron, and Larry cast their final predictions:
Larry Mize: Favors Bryson DeChambeau, praising his confident and relaxed approach.
"Bryson DeChambeau to win this thing today and don the green jacket for the first time." [37:11]
Matt Schick: Bets on Rory McIlroy, citing his track record of performing under pressure despite concerns about potential collapses.
"I'll pick Roy." [37:46]
Their predictions encapsulate the tension and excitement surrounding this pivotal tournament, leaving listeners eagerly anticipating the outcome.
The episode wraps up with the hosts expressing their enthusiasm for the final round of the Masters and the unfolding drama between Bryson DeChambeau and Rory McIlroy. They also tease upcoming sports discussions, maintaining the show's engaging and dynamic atmosphere.
