What's up, guys? Welcome back to Sunday Sports Club Podcast, a podcast all about sports told by a woman. And that woman is me. Hi, guys. I'm your host, Alison Kuch, and we are reporting live from New Orleans. I have to admit, I've had, like, 15 beignets since I've been here. But we have some exciting guests, and our first guest is Jackie Tranquil, married to Drew Tranquil, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs. But also, we go way back because Drew, Tranquil and Isaac went to college together, so me and Jackie go way back, too.
Alison Kuch
Well, not only college, but then we ended up with the same NFL team.
Jackie Tranquil
Exactly. Back to back years, the Chargers. So we've kind of, like, had so many different phases of life.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
And now it's fun seeing you guys. Like, Drew get to go to the super bowl because this is his second super bowl, which is crazy, because I feel like it's more rare to go to a Super bowl in an NFL career than people would think.
Alison Kuch
Oh, yeah. And it's wild. We've been with the Chiefs for two years, and we're going to our second super bowl, and we've only been with him two years.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, true's a little good. Good luck charm.
Alison Kuch
I know, I know.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, it's so crazy. Okay, so I'm excited to talk all about all things super bowl and just kind of like you and your story, but I. I've been on a podcast with Jackie once before, and the last time I got engaged on the podcast.
Alison Kuch
I was more shocked at your engagement than mine. I'm not kidding. I knew my engagement was coming. Yours. Just, like, we were talking, and the next thing I know, Isaac was on one knee, and I was like, what is happening? I went back and looked at the photos, and I was literally, like. My face was like.
Jackie Tranquil
No, you looked more shocked than I was. You were like. Whenever I posted that on social media, people were like, oh, my God, I want a friend like that who's, like, more excited than I am.
Alison Kuch
I was so excited. Excited for you guys. It was. It was the best day.
Jackie Tranquil
I can't promise you guys. I'm getting engaged today. Isaac's actually not here, but, like, also, there is another man in the room. So, like, I don't know. Okay, so how is. How are the super bowl events going? Like, how are you feeling? Because I can only imagine, like, feeling nervous before one of Isaac's football games and then going into, like, a Super bowl week.
Alison Kuch
Yeah. I feel like there's Just so much excitement. More than anything, I feel like the Chiefs do a really good job of, like, this is the biggest game, but also, like, doing what they always done, and it's worked out really well for them.
Jackie Tranquil
Whatever they're doing, it's clearly working.
Alison Kuch
I know. And I'm just so excited for Drew because to make it to this level, you're a huge competitor, and to be able to compete at the absolute highest level, not only in the NFL, but you're competing in the super bowl is all he's really ever wanted. So to see him be able to do that now two years in a row is. I don't know. I'm just really proud of him and excited and.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. I mean, absolutely. It is crazy because it is so rare to go to a Super bowl and then win a Super bowl, too.
Alison Kuch
I know.
Jackie Tranquil
So how do you think that this year is different from last year? Like, what are the comparisons? Obviously, we're in a different city.
Alison Kuch
Yeah, different city. I just, like, the Chiefs just had such an amazing season this year. Last year, it was, you know, they. People like, oh, the Chiefs don't look like they normally do, and they ended up not getting the first seed, which was their first year in a while, not getting the first seed. So we played Miami and then had to go to the Bills. Play the Bills, and then had to go to the Ravens. It was just a really challenging. And I was shocked. I didn't think they were going to. I mean, you're like, I showed up to these games, and it was like a new team in the playoffs. So this year, they had just such a great year, so I just feel like they're going to win. Last year, I was nervous. This year, I'm like, they're winning this year.
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, okay, so, like, have a great game. Like, okay. So how do you stay calm during these games?
Alison Kuch
I pray a lot. I'm not kidding you. I pray so much. I think for me, a lot of it is, like, injury. For Drew, I'm just like, totally keep him safe, bub. I pray for Supernatural Bubble offering every. Every single game.
Jackie Tranquil
Oh, that's so sweet.
Alison Kuch
Yeah. And I always see him before the games, so just seeing him, and he's just so excited. And honestly, a new layer to it, too, is Eli. He's five and absolutely loves football. All things football. Like, he knows all the players. He has all the football car. Like, it's so exciting. So I feel like just like having him with me, too, and getting the.
Jackie Tranquil
Seizure before the game.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Aw, that's so sweet. It's crazy because you were pregnant when Drew got drafted to the NFL, and now he's a five year old. And when you think of, like, a typical, like, little boy five years old, you're like, oh, he's probably a, like, a sports fan, football fan. Does he go to school saying, like, my dad has the coolest job in the world. Is he, like, super popular?
Alison Kuch
It's wild. Cause he doesn't even, like, realize it. So he was star of the week a few weeks ago, and he like, I put some Chiefs pictures on there. And then his friends were like, oh, your dad plays for the Chiefs? Like, they didn't even know. Like, he's like, yeah. He's like, yeah. He's like. He thinks everyone's dad just plays for the Chiefs because all our friends, you know, their dad play too. So it's like, oh, yeah. It's just our dads work together.
Jackie Tranquil
It's crazy. It's funny because, like, I grew up being like, oh, I don't know. I feel like it's pretty, like, a lived experience. Like, everybody is like, oh, I don't know what my dad does for work.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
And Eli is never gonna have that problem.
Alison Kuch
Well, I'm like, when? Even when we were running on the field for the AFC championship, and Eli's, like, doing snow angels, the confetti. I'm like, this is his second time doing this, and he's five years old. I, like, I just. I hope he knows, like, how.
Jackie Tranquil
How iconic his childhood is.
Alison Kuch
I know. I'm like, he loved it. He even said. He's like. I was like, what are you most looking forward to about the weekend? He's like, I can't wait to run in the confetti. He's just, like, expecting it. Like, this is. This is what we do.
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, I need this kid's manifesting skills. I'm like, man, I'm like 30 years old, and I have not done a confetti skill. Snow angels. So I'm gonna have to.
Alison Kuch
I know.
Jackie Tranquil
I'm like, annie producer. Can we put that on, like, the to do list? Okay, great.
Alison Kuch
Can you come on the field with me?
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah, I'm gonna, like, run on the field. I'm like, I know them, I swear.
Alison Kuch
Well, I saw you after the super bowl win last year. I remember.
Jackie Tranquil
Are you crazy?
Alison Kuch
I think I, like, I don't know. It was like a blur.
Jackie Tranquil
It's funny, I. Somebody was mentioning it last night. They're like, oh, like, how is a Super bowl week like, for just like, obviously Isaac's not playing in the Super Bowl.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
But I described super bowl week as like a huge high school reunion, essentially. Like, after being in the NFL for a certain amount of years, this super bowl week, like, attracts so many different players, broadcasters, anybody in the sports world. So it genuinely feel. I feel like if I walk in the street right now, I probably see somebody I know.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
So I can only imagine, like, everybody coming here and they're like, oh, my husband's gonna be playing in this game that everybody, like, so many cool people are gonna be at the Super Bowl. I mean, they always show em, like, on the big screen. And you're like, oh, there's Hailey Bieber and Justin Bieber. They're kissing and oh, Taylor Swift is downing it. Like, chugging beards, like, oh, wow, this is this huge production.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay, so Drew got drafted back in what year?
Alison Kuch
2018.
Jackie Tranquil
2018.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
And so, like, how has the NFL experience been? Like, you guys were at the Chargers and now you're with the Chiefs. Like, talk a little bit about that.
Alison Kuch
Yeah, well, so I feel like you had something to do with the Chargers because the year that Isaac got drafted, Drew called Isaac right away, was like, oh, my gosh. Like, congratulations. Isaac was like, oh, my gosh. I'm so. Like, I've been waiting. You know, the draft is something you're just like, waiting, and every minute feels like forever.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Alison Kuch
And then the very next year, Drew it to the Chargers. And then you texted me. You're the first one to text me. And you're like, hey, like, can't wait to see. Like, yeah, I'll, like, introduce you. And I feel like you introduced me to our group of friends. And I feel like I loved my time with the Chargers. Like, I love the people there. I feel like we had a really solid group.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Alison Kuch
And it was fun. Especially, like, going to Cabo for Tasha's wedding. Like, all that was really fun.
Jackie Tranquil
I kind of taught. It's funny because I wasn't really on social media, like, in the beginning, so I feel like I never really showed that part of the NFL. Like, we were such a tight knit group. And I feel like you've only. I mean, Drew's only been in two teams, but I've been in a few different teams where I'm like, oh, like, not every team is like that. And I truly feel like it was a family.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
So now that you guys are with the Chiefs, like, how is that so.
Alison Kuch
The Charger on Drew's side, like, like, I said He's a competitor, so he wants to win. And so just not winning with the Chargers, I feel like it just, you know, like, it makes going to work not as exciting.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Alison Kuch
So with being with the Chiefs, like, he loves going to work every day.
Jackie Tranquil
He's like, I love winning.
Alison Kuch
He loves winning. He loves going to work every day. Like, it's so exciting, especially playoff time. And this year, we have such a good community of, like, the players, wives, and kids. Like, we're all just doing life together and raising our kids together, and our husbands have the same job, so they're leaving every weekend, and so we all get together. Like, it's been such. I feel like I've had a great experience, all Chargers and Chiefs, but I do feel like for Drew being able to win, I feel like that just carries over into our. Our household.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. Is Drew the type of player that if they lose, he's, like, upset in the car ride home?
Alison Kuch
Oh, yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay.
Alison Kuch
Oh, yeah. Oh. There's many, like, even back to Notre Dame games, like, if they were to lose, it was just. I didn't want him to lose because I didn't want to deal with a grumpy boyfriend or husband. I'm like, please, just win. So my husband's happy.
Jackie Tranquil
No, literally, you're like, literally all. I just want to go out to dinner after.
Alison Kuch
I know you're like, because.
Jackie Tranquil
Because now I don't get fed. If they lose, I don't get fed. We go straight to sleep. I don't even get to watch my show.
Alison Kuch
I know.
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, anyways, so, like, you and Drew have been together for how many years?
Alison Kuch
I was just telling someone last night, 12. 12 years.
Jackie Tranquil
That crazy.
Alison Kuch
Crazy.
Jackie Tranquil
You guys are like high school sweethearts. So how crazy is it seeing Drew from, like, high school Drew to college Drew, NFL Drew and, like, Super Bowl Drew. Like, has he changed at all? I feel like he's like, he. The same genuine, down to earth, same person.
Alison Kuch
Like, he's gotten a little funnier. He used to be pretty serious. Yeah, he's gotten funnier. And, I mean, he's the same person. He's so. He's so down to earth. He has drove. I got an Altima when I was 16. Yeah, he's drove that car all the way up to last year. I had to force him to buy himself a truck. This year, I was like, drew, you need a car. Like, get yourself something nice. You deserve it. Like, you've made it so far. But he's just the t. He's just. He's the same.
Jackie Tranquil
And I think that's what so many people have, like, not even misconceptions, but I think sometimes people forget that, like, the headlines of, like, oh, NFL player, like, makes a million, $100 million goes broke. It's like, that's just, like, the headline. And everybody predicts that, like, oh, that's going to happen to every football player. Whereas in the. This is, like, more common. Like, guys are way more frugal than I think. Nobody wants to write an article about somebody, like, like, financially responsible.
Alison Kuch
Right.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, that's just not going to get a lot of views.
Alison Kuch
Right.
Jackie Tranquil
So it is so crazy, because I do feel like Drew is, like, one of those people is, like, just genuine, like, down to earth. Like, even you guys as a couple, I feel like nothing's changed.
Alison Kuch
No. Like, I feel like, too. Before I came into the NFL, I was so nervous. I don't know how you felt. I thought it was the Wags were going to be like, they are on tv. And I was like, I'm not going to fit in. And then I met everyone, and I was like, oh, y'all are. Y'all are just like, me, like, normal. We're normal people. Like that. I don't know. And I think it's the same for a lot of players.
Jackie Tranquil
Absolutely. The show Wags on E came out, like, the two years before Isaac got drafted, and I was like, oh, I'm not going to survive. Like, it's like the Mean Girls episode. And I'm like, I'm just going to be like, the transplant. Like, I'll just, like, sit in the back. But it's way more common to be like, like, chill, relax. Like that, like, and, like, designer every now and then.
Alison Kuch
I know.
Jackie Tranquil
Whatever.
Alison Kuch
Every Super Bowl.
Jackie Tranquil
Exactly. Every Super Bowl. Oh, my gosh. So, I mean, we. We've known each other for so long. You and Drew have been together for so long. How was the move? Because you guys grew up in Indiana.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Went to college in Indiana because you went to Purdue. So that. Is that in. So you guys were very Indiana.
Alison Kuch
Yeah, we're very Indiana.
Jackie Tranquil
And then you. And you guys are also very close with your families. So then you moved to California. How many weeks pregnant were you when you.
Alison Kuch
38 weeks.
Jackie Tranquil
Wait, you got on a plane at 38 weeks?
Alison Kuch
I. The only plane that I researched. I don't think they really. Anyway, I researched the only plane that will fly you at 38 weeks is Delta. So we had to get a Delta flight.
Jackie Tranquil
Daddy. Delta. I knew. I love Delta. So your 38 weeks we did you get an OB GYN in California right away.
Alison Kuch
So Drew got the call. He was like, hey, you're coming to the Chargers. Blah, blah, blah. Like, and he's like, oh, my gosh, thank you so much. And he was like, by the way, my wife's 38 weeks pregnant. Can you guys get me in touch with the doctor? So they're like, okay, yeah, we'll call you back. And so they called him back, and we're like, hey, we had a doctor ready for you. So we got there, we didn't have a house. We didn't have any. Like. I mean, we didn't have an apartment, nothing. And I was like. I was like, get me a house. Get me an apartment. Someone's like, get this girl some keys, because she is 38 weeks pregnant, and she needs a place to bring her baby home to.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Alison Kuch
Was wild.
Jackie Tranquil
Oh, my gosh. So then all that quickly happened. So, like, the team was helpful in that aspect.
Alison Kuch
They. They helped me find a doctor.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. I feel like certain teams, like, have really good player personnel. Like, that will help the family. And I think the Chargers did a really good job at, like, really including the family. I mean, even, like, holiday parties and all that. Like, I don't know if it's because the team is owned by a family.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
In particular. But, like, I always. I feel like I always gas the Chargers up because I'm like, oh, it was just. We were just like a cute little family. Like, it's just so great. Yeah. So now going from California to Kansas City, like, how was that? Because when I made the move from California to Indiana, I was like, okay.
Alison Kuch
So I was kind of pouting at first. I was like, you're like, what's in Kansas City? I know. I was like, I don't want to leave. My friends are here. We're by the beach. Like. But once it got there and got settled and Drew really enjoyed work, it got better. And then when they made it to the Super Bowl, I was like, that was all worth it, right? This year has been amazing because we actually got a house out on some land. We're on 10 acres.
Jackie Tranquil
Oh, my gosh.
Alison Kuch
And the kids can just run around, and then we have such a good community this year. I'm like, now I really love it. But at first, I was like, you know, me and the kids are at the beach, like, probably three or four times a week. So not having that. And then the cold and the. It was an adjustment.
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, it's an outdoor stadium. Who decided the Outdoor stadium belonged in Kansas City, but I'm not going to lie.
Alison Kuch
Arrowhead. Going from the Chargers stadium to Arrowhead, I'm like, the Chargers had more of the other team spans. I don't know what I'm supposed to say.
Jackie Tranquil
No.
Alison Kuch
Okay. To say that.
Jackie Tranquil
No. I. I think I talked about, like, literally going to. If the Chargers were playing the Chiefs, the entire Charger stadium would be red.
Alison Kuch
Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Alison Kuch
And so going to a stadium where everyone is a die hard fan, it is packed out. Like, it is such an awesome experience. Like, I went to the Miami game last year, which was like, it was negative seven and it felt like negative 20s, whatever. And it was so fun. I had a blast. I had a heated vest on, I had a heated jacket on.
Jackie Tranquil
Like technology.
Alison Kuch
I had heated, like, gloves and I was not even cold. I had a couple of drinks and I was like, I was doing good. Wait, this is.
Jackie Tranquil
I'm.
Alison Kuch
Yeah. Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Oh, my God. It is crazy because I feel like there are so many things that go into, like, like enjoying your husband playing in the NFL. I think that, like, the team, like, camaraderie and like, how many friends you have, like, on your team, like, being able to, like, interact with other women and children. But also, like, the fan base is actually such a game changer. Like, I truly love fan bases where, like, they are, okay, win or lose, like, we are still there, we're still cheering. And the Chiefs fan base is insane.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, I. I'm like, this is controversial. I'm like, who's the better fan base.
Alison Kuch
The Chiefs or the Eagles?
Jackie Tranquil
Because I know.
Alison Kuch
Okay, that's easy.
Jackie Tranquil
I think that any fan base that's willing to stay, like, stay out in the cold.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
I'm like, okay, they like, they love their team.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
And I think it just like, goes into, like, them enjoy.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
More about it. So what's your favorite thing about Kansas City?
Alison Kuch
I think it's so awesome that we're there for football and the whole city is all about the Chiefs and there for football.
Jackie Tranquil
They're there year round still. For football.
Alison Kuch
For football. Like, and it's so fun and people aren't super, like, obnoxious when we go places, you know, you get some stairs or whatever. But, like, people are pretty respectful.
Jackie Tranquil
Love that.
Alison Kuch
But yeah, it's just, I love, like, what we're there for is what this city is about. And so it just feels like something really special. Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
And how does it feel to win a Super Bowl? Like, how would, like, the super bowl parade, like, all of that? Like, how does that is. That not, like, the utmost. Like this on top of the world.
Alison Kuch
The super bowl parade was the most fun I've had in my entire life. Like, it was the best day of my life. It was. I can tell you, I'm like, my husband had a better day than I went. On our wedding day, he'll say that's the second best day of his life. But it was.
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, no, this is my first. You're like, no, the wedding day is in second place.
Alison Kuch
But just being on the bus with millions of people there in Kansas City, and you're just. Drew is just signing stuff and meeting people, and you're just. I was just screaming. I think I didn't have a voice the next day. Like, it was. I can't even explain to you, like, how awesome it was. We were the very last people. They thought Drew was drunk. And Drew has never had a sick of alcohol in his life. And the security coming up to me, like, we really got to get him inside. Like, they got to get to the stage. Like, you need to help me. You need to help. I was like, oh, he's fine. Like, I was like, he's just having the time of his life. You don't even worry about me.
Nikki Mylata
I know he's okay.
Alison Kuch
I know.
Jackie Tranquil
That's.
Alison Kuch
Oh, my God. He was. It was. It was just awesome. Obviously, that ended. That day ended really weird. Really weird ending. But until that point, like, it was really, really cool.
Jackie Tranquil
I mean, that is just, like, the tip top of, like, there is nowhere else to go. Like, that is the tip top.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
So now, this year, like, what is a Super bowl week look like for, like, not only Drew, but, like, you, like, your kids, family? Like, do you guys have events leading up to the Super Bowl? Are you able to see Drew, or is he locked away in a room somewhere? Is he okay? Like, Drew, are you ok?
Alison Kuch
It's not as glamorous as people might think. I didn't get here till yesterday, and Drew left a week ago. So they were here practicing for a week. So I was home solo with the three kids, taking care of them, getting everything ready. I think the excitement, though, leading up to it was just so, like, beyond. I don't know.
Jackie Tranquil
There's, like, adrenaline, like, meeting all the.
Alison Kuch
Adrenaline and then the picking out the outfits and, like, what is everyone gonna wear and all that. But Andrew's just been here. They've been practicing. He's like, I'm done playing catan with the guys. He's played a lot of catan with them. They've gone out to dinners and stuff, but, yeah, we just met with them last night, and it was really cool to see him, and they had a little welcome party, but we had some time with family and.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. How many tickets do you get to the Super Bowl?
Alison Kuch
15.
Jackie Tranquil
15? Wait, that's actually kind of a lot.
Alison Kuch
Yeah, well, we have access to buy 15, so.
Jackie Tranquil
You have to buy them.
Alison Kuch
We have to buy them. Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
How much are they, if you don't mind me asking?
Alison Kuch
They are so expensive. They are.
Jackie Tranquil
You don't have to answer, but, like, I want you to tell me.
Alison Kuch
No, it's. So it's 3500 for the upper deck, but you're only allowed ticket. Okay, wait. Just wait. So it's 3,500 for the upper deck, which is six seats, and you only have access to six because they want you to buy the expensive seats. And then you have. So then you have up to, you know, 10 in the lower section, which is 5,000 a ticket. And we're. We were buying all of them. We bought all 15.
Jackie Tranquil
But you do get paid to go, like, the. Every playoff game. You get paid and.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
And you also get paid to play in the Super Bowl.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Does the winner make more?
Alison Kuch
More? No. Loser.
Jackie Tranquil
You call what it is, Ally. They're losers. Yeah, it's. It is so interesting that these players are, like, going to their super bowl, which the super bowl is, I would say, arguably, like, the number one. I know for. I don't know about soccer, but I would say it's probably. It probably makes the most money. I'm looking at Annie. It makes the super bowl makes the most money, like, any sports event, right? Yeah. So I would say that the super bowl makes a lot of money. So it's crazy that there are 50. 50, like, how many players on an active roster?
Alison Kuch
53. 53.
Jackie Tranquil
There are 53 players on an active roster. And making these players pay for their tickets is kind of insane.
Alison Kuch
That's what I mean. It's. There wouldn't be a Super bowl without these players, you know, so it's like there would be no Super Bowl. It's bringing so much money.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. And it's.
Alison Kuch
You know, the average person cannot afford a $5,000 ticket, so it's really going to be put on the player.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Alison Kuch
To buy these tickets for their family to come watch them play.
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, if I want my parents to see me compete at the highest level, I have to pay a lot of money.
Alison Kuch
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay, so we'll see. We'll see what Happens. Super Bowl. But are you guys ready for the off season?
Alison Kuch
Yes, we're ready to go back to California. I mean, not ready. We've actually so enjoyed our time, but, yeah, we're excited for some sunshine.
Jackie Tranquil
I'm kind of excited for you guys to come back to California too. I'm like, I have a kid now. We can have our kids play. Like, this is perfect.
Alison Kuch
Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay. Before we end, I have some rapid fire questions.
Alison Kuch
Okay.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay. Urban street or French Quarter?
Alison Kuch
French Quarter. Belgian roots all the way.
Jackie Tranquil
Vintage jerseys or modern jerseys?
Alison Kuch
Vintage. Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
Not one person has said modern. Not one playoff beard or clean shaven look.
Alison Kuch
Oh, I love a clean shave. The baby face. Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
I'm a scruff girl.
Alison Kuch
You are.
Jackie Tranquil
I also say that an Isaac doesn't grow facial hair.
Alison Kuch
It reminds me of high school Drew. So you're like, I love it.
Jackie Tranquil
Team gear or designer outfit?
Alison Kuch
Designer outfit.
Jackie Tranquil
Anything with long, like, Abercrombie has long denim. I'm like, I am wearing some long jeans and, like, throw, like, a cute jacket. Although the jacket could be designer.
Alison Kuch
I'm in such a denim phase right now. Like, I want every.
Jackie Tranquil
Clearly, I want every, like, absolutely everything. Denim Team event or solo? Family time yesterday. Beignets for breakfast or dessert?
Alison Kuch
Both.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay, last one. This is hard. Eagles or Chiefs?
Alison Kuch
Oh, my gosh, the Chiefs are winning. I told Annie this needs to get off the table. This first thing.
Jackie Tranquil

And when you start up a business, initially, you're using your personal phone for a lot to make a lot of phone calls. You're receiving a ton of phone calls. And it is the reason that they're trusted by all 32 NFL teams and collegiate sports team dietitians all over the country. I told that to Isaac and he was like, oh wow. Before switching to the farmer's dog meal time used to feel like uninspired. Think bland. Think like a dog's version of just like plain. Okay, it's kibble, right? I'd put down the bowl of dry kibble. They'd start to sniff at it, take a bite, walk away like, meh. Like, are we really doing this again? And the moment I started giving them the farmer's dog, like now every time I open the fridge, they're right behind me. Like they know where I'm getting the farmer's dog. The tail starts wagging. They follow me into the kitchen as soon as I set the bowl down. It's like Christmas morning every single day. They're always so excited. They're practically like dancing. Like their little pitter patter of their paws as I'm putting it together. And it makes me feel so good knowing that they absolutely love their food and also that it's so good for them. Nikki Mylata
All right.
Jackie Tranquil
And now we are back, you guys. This episode is so fun for me personally, because one, my husband's never been to a Super Bowl. Not to expose him like that. Like, it's fine, but it's also not fine. It's fun to listen to Jackie Tranquil. And now we have Nikki here and her husband plays for the Philadelphia Eagles. So introduce yourself and give me your full name.
Nikki Mylata
Okay. Okay. So my full name is Iuniki Louise Ikahihibo Bender. My lata. I go by Nikki Mylata for short.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, why, why would you ever do that? Like, do you ever introduce yourself at your full name?
Nikki Mylata
Rarely.
Jackie Tranquil
Rarely.
Nikki Mylata
Rarely. I think it overwhelms people and it also takes a lot of breath. So I just feel like I have.
Jackie Tranquil
To take a big gasp before that one. So I'm just going to say Nikki. I'm winded. Right? Exactly. Okay. So how are you feeling? How are you feeling about being in New Orleans? Like, what's going through your head right now?
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, I'm feeling pretty good. I feel like we, some of the girls on the team got in on Tuesday and like, kind of like that early anticipation when things were quiet, kind of like, oh, got the nerves started. But then we've had some really fun events like this and it's helped kind of distract a little bit. But I know tomorrow on Sunday, I'm going to be like a head between my knees.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah, no, honestly, I'm like, it's like going competing at the highest level of football. The NFL. There is no place else to go. Like, this is the top. I can only imagine. Like, I feel anxious for, like, preseason games.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
So, like, how are you to stay calm during the game?
Nikki Mylata
I think it's important to bring people that, you know will calm you down, keep you calm. I'm sure you, like, probably feel the same way for games.
Jackie Tranquil
Absolutely. No, actually, I'm a solo game person.
Nikki Mylata
Really?
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. Oh, no, I, like, incredible. Yeah. I like to sit solo. Like, just leave me be. Like, give me like a corn dog or something. And like, I'm maybe like comfort food.
Nikki Mylata
I need to try that.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. Don't talk to me like, literally, because knowing my bubble. No, I'm like, knowing my. No offense to my mom, but, like, knowing my mom, she would be like, hey, what about? And I'd be like, shut up. Like, please. I need to, like, focus. No offense. I love my mom. I don't talk to her like that usually, but.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, no, I have. I have a younger sister. She's in med school, and she's very good at just being like, you okay. It's okay. You need a drink. So I got my little support girl.
Jackie Tranquil
Oh, I love that. And do you guys come from big families?
Nikki Mylata
I. My family's pretty small. It's basically me and my sister, and we have a half brother and a stepsister. But Jordan is one of five. So collectively we. We got a big group.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay, so they allow you to buy, what, 15 tickets?
Nikki Mylata
Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
Did you guys get all 15?
Nikki Mylata
Yes. You're like, absolutely, Yes. I would consider getting more, but yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, how do you even go about getting more? Like, do you just, like, contact the team?
Nikki Mylata
Like, so basically. Basically there's a lot of stuff that happens once you win the championship before the super bowl, but they give you, like 24 hours to look at the allotments they've given you. And then you're like, trading with people. You're like, I will give you a post game party pass if you give me, like, you know, one ticket or opportunity to purchase a ticket. And so it's just like this frenzy.
Jackie Tranquil
It is crazy. I think that a lot of people don't even know that side is like, oh, no. Well, one. People think that you don't pay for tickets, which you pay for tickets and really expensive this year. Jackie told me that how much they cost, and I was like, oh, okay. But then also, like, you're able to trade them, which is kind of nice because I guess if, like, a player doesn't have a huge family, like, it allows players that have huge families to be able to, like, actually bring everybody in.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Which I think is a cool experience.
Nikki Mylata
Really, like, supportive about that, too. Like, I could imagine, like, some situations where. Where they're like, well, what you want to do to get my. You know. But no, everyone's like, I got you. And it's been a really good experience for how crazy it is.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. Oh, my gosh. Okay, so this is. Your husband has been in the NFL for seven years.
Nikki Mylata
Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
This is his seventh year. Okay. And he has been to one super bowl before, so you know what I'm saying? How are you feeling going into this Super Bowl? Like, how. How was, like, the state of your house? How is everyone, like, feeling?
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, I think everyone's feeling pretty good. I mean, we obviously would love to have this be like, a redemption game.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Nikki Mylata
Because we faced the Chiefs and the last time we were at the Super Bowl. But I think it's helpful, like, having done it once. But we're feeling good. Like, the energy is good.
Jackie Tranquil
The energy is good.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay. That makes me feel. I'm like. And I feel like when you land in New Orleans, like, even how you said, like, some of the girls that came on Tuesday, I can understand why, like, you would start to get, like, a little antsy because you're like, okay, like, it's Tuesday, and I'm here until Sunday. Like, that's a long time one in New Orleans, but also, like, a long time, like, leading up to the Super Bowl. So now that, like, all of the things are happening, like, it's day before football game. How are you feeling now? Like, obviously, you said you were trying to distract yourself, so I'm like, are you just feeling excited, like, looking forward to the game?
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, we're feeling good at this point. And, like, a lot of the families got in yesterday, so, you know, it's a little reunion, too. And we're all just like.
Jackie Tranquil
It's like, oh, my gosh, this is actually happening tomorrow. You're like, okay, this day that we've. The football season is long.
Nikki Mylata
Oh, yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
If you go to the super bowl, the football season is so long.
Nikki Mylata
So long.
Jackie Tranquil
And my husband's been on teams where we'll get to, like, beginning of December. And we're like, okay, I don't think we're going to playoffs. So it's like, okay, we only have, like, a month left, but if you continue on, it's like, yeah, all crazy. Your off season is cut so short. So short. You're like, oh, you have to report back to OTAs. In like, a month and a half. Literally, like, oh, six weeks. Right. So before, like, leading up to the super bowl, the guys obviously fly in, like, a week before the football game, and they're practicing and whatnot. So are you able to see him? Like, what's the schedule been, like, this. This week? Or is he, like, locked away, like, you're not seeing him?
Nikki Mylata
So the reason some of us came in on that Tuesday was they can't. They had like, a half day, kind of. So we were able to spend some just, like, down quality time with them on Tuesday. And then since then, it's been like a couple hours at night. Before their curfew. Yeah, they have 10pm curfew.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, I. You're like, I thought when we got married, we were over this curfew thing, right? Like, I'm not even allowed in his room.
Nikki Mylata
No, Literally.
Jackie Tranquil
No. I'm not kidding, you guys. The wives are not allowed to go in their rooms. Like, it is. I'm like, I'm not joking. And they have security, like, on the floors, so they'll catch you if you're trying to sneak in.
Nikki Mylata
Security for fans, security for wives.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah, exactly. Right.
Nikki Mylata
You're like, what you doing in there?
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, get out. Right, exactly. So then, like, what. What are you doing right before the football game? Are you planning on tailgating? Are you going to take it easy? I'm like, I know if my husband was playing in the Super Bowl, I would need alcohol in my system. Like, I'm sorry, I need something to take the edge off. Like, I'm antsy, I'm anxious, I'm sweating. So what are you doing before the game?
Nikki Mylata
Honestly, the morning is going to be as peaceful as it possibly can be. Some of the girls are getting together, getting some glam done, but we're going to do it probably with, like, meditation.
Jackie Tranquil
Music in the background, literally, like, light incense.
Nikki Mylata
But then we're tailgating beforehand, and that's. That's when the alcohol will get in the system.
Jackie Tranquil
Right. All right. Is your husband the type of guy that, like, he likes having you around and it keeps him calm, or is he like, no, I kind of need to be alone and you be. Be in my head, like, prepare for the game.
Nikki Mylata
It's changed a lot since the last super bowl, that first Super Bowl, I think, especially because he, like, had so much pressure from it being his first. Yeah, he was kind of closing in on himself a little bit, but now I think he feels a lot more comfortable. And he's like, okay, I. I can exist. We've been here, we've done this. The worst has happened, right?
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah, yeah, it can't get worse than that. So.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, so he's, he's been a lot more comfortable just having people around him this time.
Jackie Tranquil
When Isaac first started in the NFL, he was the type of guy that was like, I can't talk to you, I can't reply to a text message. Like, don't he like literally even like the Monday before a regular football game, he would be like, if we get into a little argument, like that's just going to ruin my game and I'm going to play. Horrible. And then like year seven, I remember like texting him like five minutes before he had a meeting. And I was like, I'm pregnant. I just like want food. And I'm like, can you just like bring it to me real quick? And like, and it's crazy because like a player I think just evolves in like, okay, I don't need to be so uptight and antsy and like some players do really well with that. But some players like, no, I think like being distracted is the best thing. Yeah, so you said that you mentioned like getting glam with the girls. So how are the Eagles girls like you guys a close knit group. Like, do you have like this like great community?
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, we do. We have a really great community. I feel like we're kind of just like a family. We have like a giant group chat. We actually had to make a group me, because there's so many of us.
Jackie Tranquil
I love that.
Nikki Mylata
But yeah, it's, I know some teams like have like dedicated funds for like significant other stuff and you know, we have some, but we really try to like pay our own way to do other stuff beyond that too because we just like, you know, love being together so much.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah, absolutely. I loved the teams that, where the women were close. I feel like it like changed the changes the experience. Like it makes you enjoy football season that much more. Because I think people forget like these guys are gone. Like whatever time they leave, like 6am don't come at home until 6pm and it's not like they're like, oh yeah, let's go out to dinner. It's like, no, I'm like laying down. I'm probably gonna do some like, I don't know, like some compression in my legs, like laying on the couch and then I'm going to sleep at 8:00pm So I, I, I always think back to like my favorite years in the NFL. It's always when the women were so close. And, like, you have that community. You're able to, like, text somebody. Like, hey, like, I forgot this. Like, do you have that? So I love hearing that about the Eagles, and I'm excited to see you guys. Like, I love seeing. Are we not all so excited for the wag outfits? I hate that I just said the word wag. Oh, my God, please forgive me.
Nikki Mylata
It's a. I. I say it too. Even though, like, I. I kind of hate the term, but it's so much easier to say.
Jackie Tranquil
I know. I'm, like, trying to.
Nikki Mylata
Significant other is wives and girlfriends.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah, like, wives and girlfriend. I'm trying to, like, take back the wag term to not be, like, uptight and, like, bougie and more, like, chill. Like, no, like, I don't know, just a little bit more low key.
Nikki Mylata
Right.
Alison Kuch
Community.
Nikki Mylata
Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. I'm so excited to look at all the outfits.
Nikki Mylata
Me too.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, how long ago did you pick out your outfit?
Nikki Mylata
Oh, so I. It. Not that long ago, but I had a lot of, like, logistics to deal with once we found out we were going to the Super Bowl. Like, Jordan's family's all in Australia, you know, and there's a time difference and you're trying to see who can come. So I. I only started putting stuff together, like, Friday.
Jackie Tranquil
Okay. Saturday, you're like, I'm waiting on a package right now. No, I literally ordered a package to New Orleans, so. And my husband's not even playing the football game. Nobody cares about me and my outfit, but I'm like, still gotta look good. I know people are probably gonna hear the fact that you just said your husband's family is in Australia. So your husband is from Australia. Yes. He had a very interesting, like, kind of entrance into the NFL. Can you speak to that a little bit?
Nikki Mylata
Yeah. So he. He's like the first player to be drafted with literally absolutely no football experience.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, zero football experience.
Alison Kuch
Like, zero.
Nikki Mylata
Had never put on a helmet before he went through.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, how does that even.
Nikki Mylata
I know. It sounds so strange saying it out loud. There is an international player pathway program that the NFL's created, you know, sourcing potential players from other countries. And he was playing rugby at the time in Australia, and some of his footage went out and they called him in. So he went into the IPP program and actually became draft eligible, so then got drafted by the Eagles in the seventh round in 2018, which is crazy.
Jackie Tranquil
It's.
Nikki Mylata
It's bonkers.
Jackie Tranquil
He did not put on a football helmet until he was literally on a football team.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, there's like, interviews of him back then, and he was, like, trying to, like, squirt the water into his mouth through the helmet and just like, completely dousing himself.
Jackie Tranquil
I need to find that for socials. I need to find that somewhere. Oh, my gosh.
Nikki Mylata
Okay.
Jackie Tranquil
And you said he was drafted in the seventh round.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Can we just applaud? Seventh round. Seven years in the NFL.
Nikki Mylata
Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
Because it is so rare. Also, I'm like, Isaac's nothing compared to. He's never played football until he played football, like. Like, as an adult, which is so crazy. Okay, so everybody is flying in from Australia from his family.
Nikki Mylata
They got in yesterday.
Jackie Tranquil
That's so crazy. Are they like. Were they like, wait, what is this NFL like, thing?
Nikki Mylata
Yeah, yeah. Initially, especially the last super bowl, they were like, what is going on?
Jackie Tranquil
Because, I mean, American football is, like, very American. Like, there's no Australian. It's rugby there.
Nikki Mylata
It's. Yes. But I will say the NFL is doing a great job of expanding there. Like, they've opened flag football camps and they're getting that in schools. They just opened, like, an NFL academy in the Gold Coast. So I. I think it's, like, up and coming.
Jackie Tranquil
Honestly, I'm like, NFL, if you're listening, like, you're doing a great job. Yeah, I. I have heard the flag football is, like, up and coming, and, like, they're really starting to expand. So it's kind of interesting hearing that, like, all the way in Australia. It's, like, expanding.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah. They actually announced that they're going to do their first game in Australia in 2026. October 2026.
Jackie Tranquil
Wow. Wait, I did not know that. That's like, how are they going to do that with the time change?
Nikki Mylata
Well, it's going to be really interesting. I feel like that's not my problem because I'm like.
Jackie Tranquil
The Brazil game was 11 hours.
Nikki Mylata
Yes. Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
And so it'll be really interesting to see. The flight to Australia is from LA. Like, 18.
Nikki Mylata
I think it's 14 and a half from LA if you can get, like, a really fast direct. But, like, if Philly's going to be in it, like, it's gonna be a little longer.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Nikki Mylata
But I heard they're actually getting a direct flight out of JFK to Sydney, which I think will make the whole trip a very long, but shorter than usual. 17 and a half hours.
Jackie Tranquil
That's. I mean, you're quite literally flying across the world.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
So do you guys get to go back very often?
Nikki Mylata
It was weird during the pandemic because they totally closed off but now we're back like, once a year. Last year we went for the NFL draft and Jordan got to, like, announce the Eagles draft pick there, which was so cool.
Jackie Tranquil
That is so special.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah. And Jordan's getting really involved in, like, the NFL academy and stuff like that. So we're going again this year.
Jackie Tranquil
Oh, my God, that's incredible. I've never been to Australia. I'm going to have to, like, come, come with me. Like, just put me in your bag and maybe Isaac won't notice I'm gone. Like, he's like, wow, the house is really quiet. Like, that's crazy. So you guys have been with the Eagles his entire career?
Nikki Mylata
Yes.
Jackie Tranquil
So how has that been, like, seeing over the years, like, Eagles have great years and some not so great years. So, like, how has that been?
Nikki Mylata
It's. It's been good, honestly. Like, it's been really nice to be able to watch it grow.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah.
Nikki Mylata
I will say I'm starting to feel old.
Jackie Tranquil
Same. I literally just turned 30. I'm like, Ew.
Nikki Mylata
Like, yeah. Like, I'm the. I'm still here.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah. Right? It is crazy because in the NFL community, like, as a wife, like seven years, you're like, like, I'm the old one.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah. I'm. I'm not like the longest standing, but I, as I continue to get up there, I'm just like, whoa.
Jackie Tranquil
You're like, looking around for like, usually, like one of the veteran wives plans all these events and you're like, oh, that's me. Next. Yeah, you're like, that's me. Okay, so what has been your favorite week? Like, what are you looking forward to? Excited for the game?
Nikki Mylata
Yeah. Oh, I'm getting nervous just thinking about it. Yeah, I'm just like, excited to, like, see these guys just live their dream. Honestly, like, we have some people who are returning from that, that last super bowl, but we have a lot of guys who are going to be there for the first time and I'm just like, so excited to see them, like, reach like, the pinnacle of NFL football games.
Jackie Tranquil
I love that. Okay, well, before we wrap, I have some rapid fire questions. Nothing too intense, okay?
Nikki Mylata
Okay.
Jackie Tranquil
Bourbon street or French Quarter?
Nikki Mylata
Ooh, French Quarter.
Jackie Tranquil
Vintage jerseys or modern jerseys?
Nikki Mylata
What about reworked vintage pieces into a more modern jersey?
Jackie Tranquil
Okay, I love that.
Nikki Mylata
I love that.
Jackie Tranquil
Playoff beard or clean shaven look?
Nikki Mylata
I love the clean shaven. I'm never going to get it from Jordan.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, I like a little scrub.
Nikki Mylata
Okay.
Jackie Tranquil
Pregame ritual or a post game celebration?
Nikki Mylata
Post game celebration.
Jackie Tranquil
Like, yeah, I like that. Team gear or designer outfit.
Nikki Mylata
I'm so annoying. I'm reworked team gear into a designer outfit. Okay.
Jackie Tranquil
Love that. Team event or solo family time?
Nikki Mylata
I like a little of both. Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Beignets for breakfast or dessert?
Nikki Mylata
Dessert.
Jackie Tranquil
Eagles or chiefs?
Alison Kuch
Eagles.
Nikki Mylata
Go birds.
Jackie Tranquil
I'm like, okay, well, I'm gonna say go teams. Like, everyone's like, you're really not rooting for a team. I'm like, you guys, I don't care.
Nikki Mylata
Yeah.
Jackie Tranquil
Yeah, I'm having fun. Like, my husband's not out there, so I'm not stressed. I'm like, somebody hand me a margarita. And I'm chilling. Okay. Where can the people find you on social media?
Nikki Mylata
Oh, I'm at Nikki Boo and I k I b o o on Instagram.
Alison Kuch
Perfect.
Jackie Tranquil
All right, well, I'm looking forward to seeing your outfit tomorrow. Thanks for coming on.
Nikki Mylata
Thank you so much for having me.
