I've come to realize is so much of what I do is making things approachable, easy, fun and humor. Like humor is very much like my why Aside from making these recipes that I want people to enjoy and love, I want to make people happy. I want to make people smile.
Rebecca Minkoff
Hey everyone, you're listening to Superwoman. Today's guest is one of my nearest and dearest, Eden Grinspan, the author of Tahini Baby. She's been on several of my podcasts for her prior book. We even did a Uber view together like a hundred years ago. But this incredible cookbook is filled with so much veg forward food. It's delicious. We also talk about how to have a happy marriage, how she involves her kids in her career and in her cooking and so much more. This is a very casual interview as two besties take a listen.
Eden Grinspan
I'm a very social person. I think one of my all time favorite things about what I do is that I get to hang with people, hug people and just celebrate. And for me, this book is really going to be all about that.
Rebecca Minkoff
You and Ito have this youthful, just fell in love energy. How the do you keep that going?
Eden Grinspan
This is going to sound so cheesy and kind of lame, but I really did marry my best friend. Like, we lie in bed sometimes and we're like chatting and chatting and I'm like, what are we even chatting about? Foreign.
Rebecca Minkoff
I'm Rebecca Minkoff and this is Superwomen. Each week, inspiring women are interviewed to uncover the unexpected journeys, the challenges, and the unwavering spirit that makes them powerful. Get ready to be motivated by stories of resilience and discover the keys to unlocking your own potential. We are gathered here today with my dear friend, Eden. Hi.
Hi.
Eden Grinspan
I'm so happy to be here.
Rebecca Minkoff
I know we've done this once before, a long time.
Eden Grinspan
How many years ago?
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah, like a hundred years ago.
Eden Grinspan
Oh my God. That's how long we go back.
Rebecca Minkoff
I know, 10 years.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah.
Rebecca Minkoff
So this is a podcast interview of a dear friend, but also we're really excited about her new baby.
Eden Grinspan
She's here.
Rebecca Minkoff
Tahini baby is here.
Eden Grinspan
I would say she's my fourth child because obviously I have two actual kids. But then I have a book.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yep.
Eden Grinspan
Eating out loud came out 2020. And then Tahini Baby.
Rebecca Minkoff
So we shared a Covid book.
Eden Grinspan
Yes, we did.
Rebecca Minkoff
Which was really hard to do.
Eden Grinspan
I remember we did. We had like wine and we did a live together to talk about Fearless.
Rebecca Minkoff
That's right.
Eden Grinspan
Remember that? Yep. I was. It was like beginning of COVID It was 2021. Oh, never mind. Yeah, that time was a blur.
Rebecca Minkoff
Like I blacked out at that.
Eden Grinspan
I actually did.
Rebecca Minkoff
So I'm happy that you get to launch this when people are out.
Eden Grinspan
Well, you know me in the world, I'm a very social person and I think one of like my all time favorite things about what I do is that I get to hang with people and physically like hug people and just celebrate. And for me, this book is really going to be all about that. Yeah, Like I have a book tour that's getting set up right now, which I'm really excited about that we're going to announce really soon. And I just really hope people come out.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, they're coming.
Eden Grinspan
I want them to come out. And I want to sign books, and I want to dance and eat.
Rebecca Minkoff
So at all of your book tour stops, are you going to also be cooking?
Eden Grinspan
Not all of them. We're still actually figuring out those details, but I definitely think there's going to be some demos.
Rebecca Minkoff
Can I be your sous chef?
Eden Grinspan
Please come. Please come. I'm actually trying to put together, like, a really fun playlist, and I want it to play at every book event so that the energy is there. You know, there's nothing worse than being in, like, a quiet room with people, like, soft talking or just, like, trying to fill a space.
Rebecca Minkoff
Snooze fest.
Eden Grinspan
I know. I'm like, let's get this party going.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, I have a good DJ for you to make a playlist.
Eden Grinspan
Is it your husband?
Rebecca Minkoff
No. Oh, he'll make a good playlist.
Eden Grinspan
I feel like Gav would be very good at that.
Rebecca Minkoff
He would be. But I feel like this DJ that we hired at one of my fashion weeks, like, just played all the music you want to dance to.
Eden Grinspan
Yes.
Rebecca Minkoff
You know, and you're just like, what a time to be alive.
Eden Grinspan
But that's what I want people to come out and be like. That was a great time.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yep.
Eden Grinspan
Not just a book signing. A great time. Yeah.
Rebecca Minkoff
So we shared last night because we went out. We should not have done that as late as we did.
Eden Grinspan
We are.
Rebecca Minkoff
We've seen each other.
Eden Grinspan
We saw each other, like, what, seven hours ago?
Rebecca Minkoff
We should have just slept in each other's arms.
Eden Grinspan
We actually. I am not. I do not go out late. I was in bed. Bed at 1 in the morning. You make me young again.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, well, I don't do that often. That was. That was for a special reason.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. We celebrated this beautiful woman yesterday. By the way, you did an amazing job last night. Like, truly. And then we had to go out and, like, you know, have a drink to celebrate the event.
Rebecca Minkoff
And pasta.
Eden Grinspan
And pasta.
Rebecca Minkoff
At 11pm at 11.
Eden Grinspan
And it was glorious. And now we're just trying to kind
Rebecca Minkoff
of, like, get our shit together and be awake.
Eden Grinspan
Suck the face into the face. I woke up this morning and I was like. Like, ice. Ice water.
Rebecca Minkoff
I know. I didn't want to take my eye patches off. I was just like, how could I? Could I walk down the street with these and. It's okay.
Eden Grinspan
I'm not gonna lie. I'm wearing the exact same outfit I wore last night. Same. We are literally recreating last night's. Event here on the couch. Except we also have the book.
Rebecca Minkoff
So what I loved about you and your food, there are some people who shall remain nameless that I think create a really beautiful book and really beautiful imagery. But then you, you can't approach the food. And your food has always been, oh, I can do that. And I've made many of your recipes in your first book. And it's warm and it's welcoming. Like the food and the recipe is also, I can't describe it in a way that's not. Like, I don't know how to cut onions properly or I don't know how
Eden Grinspan
to like, perfectly garnish.
Rebecca Minkoff
Garnish, thank you.
Eden Grinspan
That's the word.
Rebecca Minkoff
So I'd love to hear, like, what was your approach to this book and why go through the pain of. Of launch another book?
Eden Grinspan
It is a journey. That's why I call it a baby. Because it's like a three year process, you know, eating out loud, as you said. It came out during COVID and it was like, obviously the world was like such a crazy place and it was so, so sad on so many levels. And I felt very fortunate that my book did find an audience and it did do well in the end. Obviously, a lot of people were home cooking. And I think, you know, something that I always gravitate towards is creating food that I personally want to make at home and that I actually do make at home. And I'm not a precious person. I went to culinary school, but I don't apply those techniques in my day to day cooking. You know, obviously with my knife skills and like knowing how to make certain things. Yes, but this is more like homestyle food. That is everyday food. And I really thought about who I'm making this for and realistically wanted to simplify as much as I possibly could because these recipes that I make, yes, you can make them for a special event. But like, I really want you to reach for this book on the daily.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
And I want you to weave these ingredients and these techniques into your life and just have them be a part of your life. Actually, you know, Tahini Baby's a vegetarian cookbook.
Rebecca Minkoff
Why did you do veggie this time?
Eden Grinspan
So when I came out with Eating Out Loud, everyone was asking me about my veg chapters, my salad chapters, the dips, the breads, and. And that, you know, inspired me to obviously cook more that way and create more recipes like that on my Instagram. And then people really just connected with it. And also that's how Ido and I And my family started eating like Mediterranean, Middle Eastern food is so easily vegetarian because there's so many grains and legumes and beautiful vegetables and herbs and spices and dips. And I was like, I actually feel like it would be a no brainer to put together like a hundred new recipes.
Rebecca Minkoff
No brainer.
Eden Grinspan
No brainer at all. She fell apart in the end. Not gonna lie. The last 20 recipes, I was like, help me. So. But you know, up until then I was like, this can easily be like a veg based cookbook. And like all the recipes, it just makes sense when you go in there. And this isn't just for vegetarians. This is for people that just want to veggie forward. Yeah. Like, I'm a veggie forward person. I'm not a vegetarian. I eat meat, but I eat it like, you know, once every couple weeks or that's it. Yeah, we eat a lot. We eat mostly veg.
Rebecca Minkoff
Wow.
Eden Grinspan
Or like, you know, when I go out, I don't like, think about what I'm eating. It's mostly when I eat at home. And to be honest, it's like A, less expensive and B, Ido and I, like, we were cooking that way and we're like, we feel great. Yeah. Just. It feels great.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
And, and I'm just excited for people to experience that with this book.
Rebecca Minkoff
I'm excited too. I'm a big salad connoisseur.
Eden Grinspan
Well, I have a chapter called wow Salads.
Rebecca Minkoff
Well, there you go.
Eden Grinspan
Wow.
Rebecca Minkoff
I'm going to take a look at wow Salad.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah, exactly.
Rebecca Minkoff
So when you hit that wall, you're like, oh, my God, I'm at the end. I have a deadline looming.
What did you do?
Eden Grinspan
So I ended up finding this amazing woman named Chaya and together we. She really helped me kind of flush out the final 20 recipes that I had to submit the recipes. And I really needed the extra help. And she actually works for the Jewish Food Society and we have very, very similar styles of cooking. And so I reached out to her and she helped me, you know, put together the final 20.
Rebecca Minkoff
Wow. Yeah, sorry, I got distracted. Creamy feta wedge salad with garlicky bread crumbs and mint. Can I just say something, though, to people who don't know what goes into a book? It's one thing for, like someone like me to write a book and then I have to like, worry about a cover design, but you have to photograph the food, make it look beautiful. This is your own fucking font you came up with, like, this is so much more work. It's not just Recipes. And then you gotta test them. I mean, the amount of work that goes into a cookbook is why it's not its own column in the New York Times, why it's how to miscellaneous and cooking is beyond me. We're in the same category, by the way, which is totally random.
Eden Grinspan
Who, me and you? Yeah, look at us.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah, I fall into the misc.
Eden Grinspan
Really, I. You know, I just wanna say I keep, like, referencing my kids, but, like, it takes a village to put together a book. And like, I have the most incredible team. Like Chris Bernabeu. He is. Look at the photography.
Rebecca Minkoff
I know. It looks like a war. Israel. If I might.
Eden Grinspan
Well, that was the goal. I'm like, sun kissed and happy and I wanted it to feel, like, saucy and sexy and warm and lived in and like the colors, I wanted it to feel saturated. And you know, for me, like, again, so much about this, like, obviously recipe developing, recipe testing, I have someone helping me, you know, write the book. And she actually also tests all my recipes after I develop them. Rachel Holtzman, she is unbelievable. And I worked with her on Eating Out Loud and she feels like family to me now. I couldn't do this without her. Chris Bernabeu is the photographer. He is just, you know, his background's more like editorial fashion. And I was like, let's. You know, he actually shot Alison Roman's dessert book. And I saw his work and that was the first. That was the only person I wanted to work with. I wrote him and actually Tully, our friend, knows him. So we spoke on the phone and I was like, we've been friends forever. You're coming to my house. We live. Listened to Taylor Swift all day, fell in love.
Rebecca Minkoff
I love that that's what you listen to as you shot this.
Eden Grinspan
That's what he insisted on listening to. And now my family's obsessed with Taylor Swift. Thank you, Chris. Because of Chris, I was like, who is this girl that everyone loves? Sorry, that makes me sound so old. But, like, now I totally understand.
Rebecca Minkoff
Are you a Swifty fan?
Eden Grinspan
I wouldn't say I'm a Swifty, but, like, I really appreciate and respect her craft.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah, me too.
Eden Grinspan
She is an amazing writer. Yeah. And I think that she's actually a great role model for these children from what I've seen. So, you know, I'm for it. Like, Ave wants to listen and I'm like, great, let's listen. But anyways. Yeah. And I had, you know, a food stylist, Christopher, and a prop stylist, Jess. Like, there was a huge team at my home, shooting this book. So I just want to shout out to everyone, just because it's not easy. It's not easy. It's not something I do by myself. It really takes a village. My agent. I feel like I'm accepting an award right now.
Rebecca Minkoff
Everyone, sorry for the quick pause. I want to share something really exciting. Superwoman has a brand new YouTube channel. It's still under construction, but big things are coming in 2026. You'll find past episodes, new episodes, and some bonus content I cannot wait for you to see. Just search SuperWoman Media on YouTube and
hit subscribe so you don't miss a thing.
Okay, back to the pod. You've not only just embraced, you know, cooking and the kitchen, you've embraced many other categories. Home fashion. I feel like you're building a lifestyle brand.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah, I. You know, it's so interesting. First of all, thank you. Coming from you, that means so much. You know, after Covid, so many things changed, actually during COVID and I started to create more content at home like almost everyone else. And, like, I started cooking more, and I really was trying to, like, you know, pivot like everyone else was, and try and figure out, like, what's important to me, what do I want to put out into the world. And it's something that it didn't, like, happen like, overnight, the idea of it. But I think what I've come to realize is so much of what I do is making things approachable, easy, fun, and humor. Like, humor is very much like my why. And I think, like, aside from making these recipes that I want people to enjoy and love, I want to make people happy. I want to make people smile. Like, I'm very. I. I'm very comfortable making, like, the biggest fool of myself. Like, when I see pictures where I look serious, I'm like. But when I see a girl, no, I'm like, I'm uncomfortable. But then when I see a picture of myself and I look like a train wreck psychopath, I'm like, I'm okay. I'm okay with that. I can live with that.
Rebecca Minkoff
But you do it and you don't. Like, I'll watch the videos that you and Ito do and.
Eden Grinspan
Well. And you know Ito so well.
Rebecca Minkoff
I know him well. And it's just like, you're really putting your true relationship and personality out there, which not everyone does.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. We are very, like, oddly alike on some levels. We. First of all, we have the same sense of humor. So I think that really is what works so well here. Yeah. And he's game. I'm like, babe, do this, this and this. And he's like, okay. I'm like, babe, just so you know, you look, like, kind of weird in this video. He's like, I don't care.
Rebecca Minkoff
I feel like you, the two of you, need some sort of show together.
Eden Grinspan
I don't know. I was, I was saying to my team, first of all, how's the podcast life?
Rebecca Minkoff
Like, I will. It could be a great podcast.
Eden Grinspan
I feel like all we talk about, though, is, like, sex and potty humor.
Rebecca Minkoff
Well, that might.
Eden Grinspan
And food.
Rebecca Minkoff
They're going to be like, no, I would listen. Really? Yeah. A couple of friends of mine have a podcast together, and I love listening to it.
Eden Grinspan
I think that's great. Yeah, it's fun. Like, this is great.
Rebecca Minkoff
We're a limited Instagram series. That's a big thing on Instagram now is people are like, brands are doing, like, limited edition series.
Eden Grinspan
You're on top of it.
Rebecca Minkoff
Well, I'm trying to be.
Eden Grinspan
Tell me what to do. Oh, build my brand.
Rebecca Minkoff
You're doing it.
Eden Grinspan
Tell me what to do.
Rebecca Minkoff
So if you had to pick your favorite recipe from the book, is there. Is it possible? Or you could pick a favorite from each chapter.
Eden Grinspan
Well, okay, let me just read this off to you because it's really fun. I actually, I actually, like, really haven't gone through the book with anyone yet. So this is like, kind of the first. What?
Rebecca Minkoff
We're popping the cherry.
Eden Grinspan
We're popping the cherry. So I have a wow. Salads chapter, as I mentioned, in honor of me. In honor of Becky Boss Vegas. So these are like the veg dishes that are like, the main attractions are like, you know, you know how you, like, put down a table and everyone's like, here's the chicken. Yeah. Here's the steak. I'm like, here's your boss veg. I love boss. That's like main, main, main, main energy. Main character energy.
Rebecca Minkoff
I was trying to say hot.
Eden Grinspan
New side piece. So these, your sides, they're hot and
Rebecca Minkoff
you come up with all this word.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. We're like, we're throwing this out. Like, you know me. Like, I feel like, let's have fun
Rebecca Minkoff
the way you name it.
Eden Grinspan
And also these, if you add like a grain or just another, like, layer, it could also be veg because there's so much going on. We have breen, brunch, condiments, all the noshes, obviously. And what I've done in this book, too, is I've taken a lot of those classic dishes, ingredients, condiments, from the first book. And I've simplified them even more. I'm like, let's do a cheap version of this. Let's just. How do we get things quickly into our hands so we can quickly make it, like, time. We don't have time.
Rebecca Minkoff
We do not have time.
Eden Grinspan
And we want everything to be delicious and flavorful, and it's, you know, wanted to make your family feel good too. So.
Rebecca Minkoff
So would you say that the longest recipe on one of these is what?
Eden Grinspan
You know what? That's a bit tricky. Just because I do have breads, and proofing takes a lot of time.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
I also have some desserts on here that you freeze.
Rebecca Minkoff
Okay.
Eden Grinspan
But they're great. Make ahead desserts so that on the day of entertaining, you're not worrying about dessert. You're taking something out of the freezer.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah. Or like, when the kids go to bed. Gavin's been into bread making. Like, he's becoming a bread. He's really. Do you have a sourdough rad husband? Thing is.
Eden Grinspan
Oh, my God.
Rebecca Minkoff
For him.
Eden Grinspan
But does he have a sour, like,
Rebecca Minkoff
does he have a sour distraction thing? But, like, he and I both lost our patience with it. Sure didn't want to feed it. It was like another child.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. You're like, no, we have too many things to think about.
Rebecca Minkoff
So he's just been doing a simple bread recipe, and then he. After the kids go to bed, he makes it, and then the morning he bakes it, he groups it overnight. And so.
Eden Grinspan
In the fridge.
Rebecca Minkoff
In the fridge.
Eden Grinspan
Love it.
Rebecca Minkoff
So that is so easy. If anyone doesn't have time.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. So you. There's so many recipes that fall under that particular category. So I have, like, my Jerusalem bagel, have ruga. I have this, like, insane sweet crumb cheese bubka that is actually modeled after one of the best bubkas I've had in Jaffa. And I had to recreate it, and it's literally like a cloud of fluffy sweet cheese heaven.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, my God.
Eden Grinspan
Like, sir, I made it. I made it for Ido and a. And it's like I blacked out, and I woke up and it was gone. They were like. I was. It was so aggressive. Ido was like. It's like he was choking. I was like, stop it, relax. He was like, I'll make more. It's the best thing that's ever happened to me. So, yeah, I have a bunch of, like, I have challah khachapuri with eggs, herbs, and all the cheeses. I have an herb olive oil challah, which is fantastic. So instead of using a neutral oil. I use olive oil, and it has this, like, beautiful flavor to the challah. And I weave in herbs.
Rebecca Minkoff
That's the secret is you use a lot of herbs.
Eden Grinspan
I use a lot of herbs, and I use a lot of spices.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
And I find that the herbs and the spices are just those extra flavor layers that don't require, like, building it in. Well, spices. Yes. But, like, I show you how to do it easily.
Rebecca Minkoff
Right, right.
Eden Grinspan
You add it in when you're, like, sauteing the onion so that it really releases the flavors. Like, there's, you know, it's. It's these techniques. Like, once you understand. Look at this. Doesn't it almost look, like, biblical? Isn't that beautiful?
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah. It just takes me to, like, summer. What we're looking at, for those of you listening, is a challah, but it's been braided and woven in with herbs.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. And I.
Rebecca Minkoff
So pretty.
Eden Grinspan
And it's a picture in front of my olive tree in my kitchen. So good. So it feels like we're like somewhere.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yep.
Eden Grinspan
Somewhere away from my kitchen. But we're in my kitchen. So I have a lot of recipes like that. And then also, like, for dessert, I have this. Actually, this one's really fun. It's called a salty vanilla bean crembo tart. And it's actually made. It's. I created it based off of one of Ido's, like, all time favorite, favorite sweets growing up in Israel. And it's this krembo, which is only served in the winter time because it gets so hot in the summer that it, like, just instantly melts. And it's just like a cracker base with a marshmallow filling, and it's covered with chocolate. But I, like, threw it in the freezer. So it has this kind of cold ice cream, fudgy vibes, but there's fluff inside. So there's a marshmallow flavor with this crumb base.
Rebecca Minkoff
Is that all marshmallow?
Eden Grinspan
It's marshmallow. I made a mixture of different things, so it's not super sweet.
Rebecca Minkoff
Okay.
Eden Grinspan
Because for me, like, I like, obviously love sweet desserts, but not like when it's too sweet. I'm like, I want to eat more of it. Yeah. And it not be overwhelming versus a little of it. And it'd be a lot.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
I also have my honey sesame candied matzah. So you know how during Passover you have the. It's like this matzo with chocolate and, you know, toffee or caramel. And I added in those, like, you know when you check out at like the grocery store and you get the sesame candies and honey.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yes.
Eden Grinspan
So I put the sesame candy and honey inside the matzah and the chocolate. Oh, God. So it's like another layer of just happiness. Give me more sesame seeds. I have tahini fudge pops that my daughters love. And that's a great make ahead dessert. And it's actually, I think it's vegan. And you know, obviously the book's called Tahini Baby.
Rebecca Minkoff
There's a lot of tahini.
Eden Grinspan
There's a lot of tahini. But it's not. Not every recipe is tahini. But the reason I also really wanted to highlight it is because I kind of feel like tahini, it's really the backbone of the cuisine that I love to make. And like, if you've had hummus before, then you've had tahini because you need tahini to make it. It's very much as important as the chickpeas.
Rebecca Minkoff
Right.
Eden Grinspan
And I love it so much and I wanted to highlight it.
Rebecca Minkoff
Correct. When you do that, the people that cheat and just do the chickpeas are liars. No, no.
Eden Grinspan
You need the tahini for that body, that creaminess, that velvety texture. And like, after I called this book Tahini Baby, I really started doing, digging and learning about it. And tahini is actually kind of like a superfood.
Rebecca Minkoff
It's protein, too.
Eden Grinspan
Protein. Especially for a vegetarian cookbook. Everyone's like, where do I get the protein? Throw tahini on that and obviously the legumes and the grains add that as well. But it's a great source of calcium, magnesium, iron, vitamin B, vitamin E. It's an anti inflammatory ant antioxidant. It's like, it's so good for you.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
So I really just loved that layer of it as well.
Rebecca Minkoff
Is there a halva recipe in it?
Eden Grinspan
There's no halva, but I do have these. My pull apart tahini rugala. So for the filling, I mix together tahini with confectioner's sugar, vanilla and salt.
Rebecca Minkoff
So it's kind of like a halva
Eden Grinspan
and it tastes like halva and obviously in the center. So it's very good. And I also do want to say, I know I'm talking a lot about dessert. Clearly I'm craving something sweet right now.
Rebecca Minkoff
Same.
Eden Grinspan
But I have my mom's baked cheesecake that everyone's been asking for for years. And I finally.
Rebecca Minkoff
She released the recipe.
Eden Grinspan
She released the recipe,
Rebecca Minkoff
By the way. Can we share that? Your mom thinks I'm her reincarnated mother.
Eden Grinspan
Yep. My mom thinks Becky's her mom reincarnated.
Rebecca Minkoff
Except here's the one flaw. I would agree that I could be her reincarnated mother. You do?
Eden Grinspan
There's something similar.
Rebecca Minkoff
But I was born after her mother passed. No, before her mother passed. So I couldn't be in two places at once. But I still love her conviction.
Eden Grinspan
But every time we're together, I remind her of that. Because it's.
Rebecca Minkoff
Dates don't matter.
Eden Grinspan
She's like, mom, Mommy, is that you? Booby.
Rebecca Minkoff
I'm your booby, booby. I'm so happy.
That's why we're so close.
Because I'm your reincarnated grandma.
Eden Grinspan
Booby. Booby Rose. Wow. That was so good.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, my God. It was the best line ever. Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
Wait, can we just. I just want to go back, like, 10 years, and I want everyone to know that Becky and I have known each other now for over a decade.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yep.
Eden Grinspan
We met through a mutual friend, Tali Miguel, who I've known, like, probably a couple years before that. And we met at a Veuve Clicquot party, and I was hellaciously pregnant.
Rebecca Minkoff
So what I was doing there, I'm not sure.
Eden Grinspan
No, but she. Well, you made it look good. You were just, like, frolicking. And she had her son there.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh. We met at that vuv. So then we've. We've known each other longer. Cause I was. I was. No, we first met when I was hellaciously pregnant at a different Vuv party in the city.
Oh.
Eden Grinspan
Have you googled pictures from that party?
Rebecca Minkoff
It's really bad.
Eden Grinspan
I have.
Rebecca Minkoff
I look like we all just had. We don't ever Google yourself.
Eden Grinspan
Google. Guys. Google this. Google Eden and Becky. Vogue Clicquot. What? 20. Like 22,000. Really?
Rebecca Minkoff
2014. 2014. Maybe I can even pull it up.
Eden Grinspan
Was. I was married already.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah, you and. Yeah, you and it were there.
Eden Grinspan
Sarah Larson was there.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yes.
Eden Grinspan
And it was that. It was at that beer spot in the meat package.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yes, it was.
Eden Grinspan
And we were playing pool. We were playing pool. And my hair is so ombre.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yes. And those are the days.
Eden Grinspan
And it was curled. And my hair wasn't blonde. It was orange, like a copper. First of all, we. We were the last men standing.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yes, we were.
Eden Grinspan
For years.
Rebecca Minkoff
I know.
Eden Grinspan
Who were we? We took it. We were like Verve Clico. That was like our Christmas.
Rebecca Minkoff
So just to give everyone context, we. There's an annual or every other now summer event. Veuve Clicquot does this polo tournament. Nacho Figueroa is There.
Eden Grinspan
And.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah, beautiful wife. And it's this classy event on Liberty Island. You get dressed up, you take a ferry, there's. And the music is always really good after the event. And we would shut it down. And I think now people are like, please leave. You have somewhere else to be.
Eden Grinspan
So we would, like, shut down this event every year. We look forward to it. And there was this, like, one year where Becky. You had the kids also.
Rebecca Minkoff
Becky brought her kids every time until they banned kids. But yes.
Eden Grinspan
So we're like walking out of the Berkeley co event and are we gonna get in trouble for stealing champagne? Wait, can people know this?
Rebecca Minkoff
Yes, they can.
Eden Grinspan
And Becky's like, pushing the stroller and her, like, I think her daughter is asleep in it or something. And she's like, look under the stroller. And I looked under and there were like three bottles of champagne.
Rebecca Minkoff
There might have been a Magnum there too there.
Eden Grinspan
You what?
Rebecca Minkoff
A Magnum of champagne.
Eden Grinspan
There was a Magnum.
Rebecca Minkoff
And we went home and we drank it and we cooked some steak. Right?
Eden Grinspan
We cooked steak and we continued the party. That wasn't a great story, was it?
Rebecca Minkoff
Well, it was great in that we literally lived, like, smuggled champagne out of a free event onto a ferry and a stroller. We. My child was. Maybe that's why they banned champagne.
Eden Grinspan
Wait, maybe that's why they banned kids and strollers. Becky. Becky, the Magnum. They were like, where did that one Magnum you were saving.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, my God. This is how desperate I was to go to the event after Nico, I think, was the last baby. No, maybe it was Leo. We go to the event. I'm fully bringing the child. I'm going to wear him. He's fresh.
Eden Grinspan
You're so committed.
Rebecca Minkoff
I'm so committed.
Every.
And they're like, no kids, ma'. Am. And I'm like, no, no, no. I'm Rebecca Minkoff. I can bring my kid. And they're like, we don't care who you are. You can't bring a kid. And I was like, call James laforce. He runs this event. I'm bringing my kid. And they're like, you actually legally can no longer bring a kid. So I fucking took a 45 minute cab all the way into Brooklyn where my babysitter was with my other kids 45 minutes back to get to, like, the end of the event. And I was so pissed I missed
Eden Grinspan
it, by the way. I was there. Yeah, I saw this happen.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yes.
Eden Grinspan
And she did come back.
Rebecca Minkoff
And I never do the. Like, I'm so and so ever. But for this, I was like, you will let me bring the baby in?
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. You're like, this is my child. He, like, the baby will just be on the breast.
Rebecca Minkoff
Right.
Eden Grinspan
I just want to say something about Becky. She has brought her kids literally everywhere and made it look so seamless. And I. And I. When I had my daughter, I called her, and I was like, you lied. You lied to me. And she was like. She was like always with a smile. Do you see the smile on her face? And she was like, this is so great and grand and wonderful. I haven't slept for years, and I don't even care. I'm so happy. And then I had my child, and I was like, what is happening? Like, we are wired very differently.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, my God.
Eden Grinspan
I didn't sleep, like, one night, and I was like, boom, boom. Like, help me. Okay. It wasn't one night. It was very long with Ave. Oh, my God.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah, I was. Oh, my God. I had my. I have my moments. I just try and stay calm in them. Like, even though I don't know, I'm more calm now. I am calm, But I think in the past, inside, I was sweating.
Eden Grinspan
You hide it very well.
Rebecca Minkoff
Thank you.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. The first time I met Becky, actually, this is a really good Becky story. Sorry. This is like, walk down memory lane, and then we'll get back to the book.
Rebecca Minkoff
Okay.
Eden Grinspan
First time I met Becky, she invited me over to her house. Like, we instantly just, like, vibed. And within, literally five minutes, I was watching her birth video.
Rebecca Minkoff
Videos.
Eden Grinspan
Videos. And that was our first introduction.
Rebecca Minkoff
I like. I like it. You know, I really know. If you're going to be a true friend, do you want to watch a baby come out of my vagina or not?
Eden Grinspan
And that was literally within five minutes of hanging. And I was like, okay, this is. This is. We're friends now forever. But then I. You know, and then I had my kids, and I was like, you lied. No, I'm kidding. It's. There's nothing better.
Rebecca Minkoff
Obviously, there's nothing better, but it can be hectic and crazy.
Eden Grinspan
It is wild.
Rebecca Minkoff
When you were developing, this was Ava Tester.
Eden Grinspan
So, you know, both the girls are completely obsessed with cooking, which is really funny. I.
Rebecca Minkoff
You know, obviously, the patience for it, because I don't.
Eden Grinspan
You know what? I. It's funny because I get asked all the time about how to inspire kids to try new foods. And. And for me, like, don't get me wrong, I'm not saying, like, Romy's actually kind of a picky eater, and it's not necessarily always easy, but I do Find that getting the kids involved in cooking really inspires them to also be, like, proud of what we put down. And it actually, like, gets them to try the food because they took part in it. And so.
Rebecca Minkoff
And your patience doesn't go away when they're, like, spilling. And, like, that's where I, like, well,
Eden Grinspan
do you know what I think it is? For me, obviously, I'm a little bit of a perfectionist when I cook, when people come over, and, like, I have a vision, and I want it to, like. I want it to be good. Like, I work really hard on these recipes, but I also switch my, like, hat when I'm with my kids, and I'm like, this doesn't need to look perfect. And I think the takeaway of them learning this skill and having these bonding moments with me surpassed that.
Rebecca Minkoff
Right.
Eden Grinspan
So I try and remind myself of that, because, don't get me wrong, I'm like, too much of that pepper you're putting too much of. And then I'm like, who cares?
Rebecca Minkoff
Right?
Eden Grinspan
Like, it doesn't matter at all. If anything, they're making these core memories with their mom. Yeah. And I'm making core memories with my kids where I think I look back and I don't remember the part that was, like, you know, harder, I guess, for me, because I wanted it to be another way. I remember the part that we were together in the kitchen cooking.
Rebecca Minkoff
I love that.
Eden Grinspan
So, yeah, it definitely. You have to just kind of let go of, like, that vision of it coming out a certain way sometimes. But it's a lot of fun. And I do find that they try more foods that way. Yeah. As a mother, for me, like, building that confidence and seeing how, like, it fills them up when they start doing it on their own. Like, we just started trusting Abe with an actual, like, knife. Yep. It's a small knife, like a paring knife. But she cuts salads with me and Nido, and she's, like, chopping them, and she's like, what can I do next? And so. So she wants to be a part of it. Yeah. And, like, I. I hosted a Super bowl party for, like, three people and cooked, though, for, like, 20 people. It was, like, so intense.
Rebecca Minkoff
I wish I could have been there to eat the leftovers.
Eden Grinspan
Oh, you. The food you would have, like, loved. It was, like. It was, like, you know, Mediterranean spread. It wasn't, like, super. There were wings, but everything else, like, I made lafa and, like, what's laffa? It's an Iraqi pita. It's like a flatbread. It's so delicious. It's in my book. Tahini Baby recipe coming soon. It's really good. So I made laffa, and I made a bunch of actually dishes from Tahini Baby because I'm starting to, like. I really want people to start, like, you know.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
Experiencing it.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
And a was walking around. She made, like, I gave her dough, and she made her own little. Little lafas. And she served hors d' oeuvres for everyone. So cute. She dressed them. And she, like, loves it. Like, she wakes up sometimes and goes and makes us breakfast in bed. Like, it's like, it brings so much joy to her. And she opens up an avocado, makes you do an avocado toast.
Rebecca Minkoff
That's so cute.
Eden Grinspan
And she seasons it with, like, lemon juice, salt, and olive oil. And she toasts the bread.
Rebecca Minkoff
How old is she?
Eden Grinspan
She's gonna be eight.
Rebecca Minkoff
Oh, my God.
Eden Grinspan
And. But she loves it. And she. And then she started bringing Romy down with her, too. And Romy's, like, schmearing butter on toast for me, and they come up with these, like, toasts for us, and they're like breakfast. Like, they just love it. Like, you see their face. It's. It's great. And to give them that trust.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
It's a big deal for us, so it feels good.
Rebecca Minkoff
That's so cute. Can we touch on your marriage? Because I think you and Ito, you guys still act like you just met, and I find that to be very rare. Like, the love you have, the excitement about each other. Not that I'm not excited about my marriage, but we're. We're in a flow of, like, I don't know, like, I feel like you and Ito have this youthful, just fell in love energy. How the fuck do you keep that going?
Eden Grinspan
You know what I think, first of all. Thank you. But I've also seen you and Gavin, and you have that youthful love energy too.
Rebecca Minkoff
We have, like, a. It's not a youthful love. It's like a mature love.
Eden Grinspan
I like, you guys have a great sense of humor.
Rebecca Minkoff
We do. We very much do.
Eden Grinspan
I think that humor is very much at the core of our marriage. I once read somewhere, like, signs of, like, a really successful or a healthy marriage and kind of like being able to lightly poke for fun at each other and not take it personally is. Was a sign of that. And, like, Ido and I tease each other all the time, and we're laughing because we both. We can easily laugh at ourselves. We don't take ourselves too seriously. So we're just we do laugh a lot.
Rebecca Minkoff
It's so fun to watch.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah, it's fun. You know, I really feel like this is going to sound so cheesy and kind of lame, but I really did marry my best friend.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
Like, he and I are just like, we lie in bed sometimes and we're like, chatting and chatting and I'm like, what are we even chatting about? Nido's like, tell me more. And I'm like, okay. Like, it's fun.
Rebecca Minkoff
I don't know.
Eden Grinspan
He's. He can just like, roll with it.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
And he's also very. Don't get me wrong, I just want to say this. Like, we bicker, we fight, we're like every other person.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
But we do. I do get a lot of questions, like, how, like, what do you think is at the core, core, like, that makes your marriage, like, fun and I don't know, just work. And I do think that we pay a lot of attention to, like, trying to spend alone time together.
Rebecca Minkoff
You're really good at that.
Eden Grinspan
Yeah. Because I'm also a different person as a mother. Right. So, like, I think of a million things as a mom. I'm always like, I'm running lists and. And like, you know, day to day life, we're like, just trying to get things done. We're trying to get the kids to school. We're trying to get the kids to all the extracurriculars. Like, pack the lunch, do the homework, read the lines. Like, it's nonstop. Yeah. So when I'm like, like, alone with Ido, we get to be like ourselves that we were when we met. And we try and just like, go and have fun and like, like do all. Like, we do silly things and we like to just kind of like, put on that hat of like, the people we met, like, like from the beginning. Yeah. And I think that that's important. And also we try and do trips alone together. It's really hard now, but just like, one night here or there, it really does make a difference.
Rebecca Minkoff
It does make a difference. It's hard for us to schedule that in, but when we do do it, it makes a huge difference. Yeah.
Eden Grinspan
And like, you get to, like, be light. The lightness to it that I think we really appreciate. Yeah. So we just try and do that. And we also, like, you know, we find fun and like, silly things.
Rebecca Minkoff
Yep. Well, I loved having you on.
Eden Grinspan
I love you. Thank you for having me.
Rebecca Minkoff
