Isaiah Stanbach
Hi, Isaiah, how are you?
Kyle Yeomans
It's good. I don't get to talk to you every day.
Isaiah Stanbach
I saw you outside the building.
Kyle Yeomans
Oh, did you?
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
When was that?
Isaiah Stanbach
You're working.
Kyle Yeomans
Oh, like you, you just saw me like walking in the building.
Isaiah Stanbach
No, I saw you. You were working, calling a basketball game.
Kyle Yeomans
Oh, yeah. You were at the Texas Legends game. The other was. How was it?
Isaiah Stanbach
It was pretty good.
Kyle Yeomans
It wasn't wild.
Isaiah Stanbach
It was a good game.
Kyle Yeomans
There's a lot going on in that building outside of the basketball.
Isaiah Stanbach
I feel like that's like the platform for all the marketing companies to try out their stuff. Oh yeah, like all the game activation stuff. Like I'm pretty sure that's where they try everything first before it goes to the NBA.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, that's exactly right.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah. Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
That's the best way that they do it and it's nice because it helps the Legends out and it helps the, the fans out. Like the fans. There's so much stuff.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Good food, good drinks. I mean it's all age groups.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Can't beat it.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, can't beat it.
Patrick Nosi Walker
That's great.
Kyle Yeomans
But yeah, Isaiah was there. I tried.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Your, your fellow co host.
Isaiah Stanbach
Like it?
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, he came and supported for a little bit. I tried to throw him a T shirt. Didn't get it there in time. It fell a little short. Had a lack of velocity.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Show him how it goes. Isaiah. Show him how to throw.
Josh Rodriguez
Show him how to spin it.
Isaiah Stanbach
His wife did throw me some popcorn, though. Yeah, she threw some popcorn. She has a cannon too. Say, it must have run in the family.
Josh Rodriguez
Really.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, she a little different, but popcorn was just coming.
Isaiah Stanbach
One dude in front of me tried to snap it. I said, you pull your hand back.
Josh Rodriguez
Buddy, old pal, you ain't going to eat my corn.
Kyle Yeomans
My. My favorite killing my popcor. My favorite part about it was Isaiah was across the floor from us about halfway up. And so I could see his whole family taking up the row. And it was a really good game. The Legends were down by three. Opposing team was at the free throw line to push it to four. He missed the free throw with four seconds left. Legends rebound, push it ahead to the half court. And then Delano Band, one of those players that used to be in the NBA but now is in the G League, put up a half court shot while the other team was trying to foul him before on the floor so that it was two free throws. They gave him all three free throws. He hit them all tied it, went in and won it at overtime. And as I was watching all of this unfold, I would like peek up at Isaiah's family.
Isaiah Stanbach
And they were super into my son was all it. Oh yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
He was going hell fist pumping and throwing the hair up.
Isaiah Stanbach
It was cool.
Kyle Yeomans
So a lot of fun.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Love a good Texas Legend game, especially with Kyle on the call.
Kyle Yeomans
Thanks, guys.
Josh Rodriguez
Would you guys. Would you guys.
Isaiah Stanbach
Would you want to be 7 6?
Kyle Yeomans
No, dude. Would you rather be 4 foot 5.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Or 7 foot 76 in here?
Isaiah Stanbach
You have a choice. Would you rather be 4 foot 5 or 7 foot 6?
Kyle Yeomans
7 foot 6 all day.
Josh Rodriguez
7 foot 6, but I'd rather.
Kyle Yeomans
I'd rather be just a normal height.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, right.
Isaiah Stanbach
Seven six. Yeah. What are you driving?
Josh Rodriguez
Oh, something custom.
Kyle Yeomans
You can find something.
Josh Rodriguez
You gotta customize.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah, but you got custom money. What are you trying.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You'd have to drive the Flintstones car with the top off.
Isaiah Stanbach
Taking up the whole tab by yourself.
Josh Rodriguez
Just rose. This train is taken.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You can never fly anywhere though, bro. Ever, ever again.
Isaiah Stanbach
That sucks.
Patrick Nosi Walker
It's. It's hard for even a regular human being. Yeah, granted, you know, being 5, 9, 5 10, I'm a little more wider than the typical person. But like, getting on a plane is the worst. But it's 7 6.
Isaiah Stanbach
You're getting your own.
Josh Rodriguez
Sweet. We were looking.
Isaiah Stanbach
They have a player down their team that's 7 foot 6.
Kyle Yeomans
I'm looking at Jamari and Sharp and.
Isaiah Stanbach
I'm watching This dude stand up and his teammates, like, shoulders are at his.
Kyle Yeomans
Hips, and these are guys that are like 6 foot 5 and above. It was like, nobody is shorter than 6 5. And they're at his shoulder, bro. His legs, it's nuts.
Isaiah Stanbach
Go. Go get your legs, bro.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But then imagine just being Wimby too, though. Imagine being that.
Isaiah Stanbach
Imagine being that agile.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah, yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Wimby's a free.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You're.
Isaiah Stanbach
You're a super wimy.
Josh Rodriguez
Is that tall?
Patrick Nosi Walker
That's Slender Man.
Kyle Yeomans
He's a little bit shorter, but not by a lot. Jamarian has him by like, those that know the reference.
Isaiah Stanbach
I thought Wimby went from 72 to 76 this offseason.
Kyle Yeomans
This offseason? Yeah.
Isaiah Stanbach
They said he grew like four inches. This office.
Patrick Nosi Walker
No way.
Isaiah Stanbach
I promise you.
Kyle Yeomans
That's right.
Isaiah Stanbach
I promise you.
Josh Rodriguez
Stop it.
Isaiah Stanbach
I'm not making this up.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But he's a literal monster.
Isaiah Stanbach
I'm not making this up.
Patrick Nosi Walker
That is Slender Man. If you see him in the woods, it's over.
Kyle Yeomans
Officially, he is 74 and Jamarion is officially 7 5.
Isaiah Stanbach
Go ahead. Let's go.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Any. Any Mavericks fans. By the way, I'll be at the Mavs game tomorrow if you want.
Kyle Yeomans
Ah, very nice. Yeah, yeah, Cool. That'll be all right. Let's get into news and notes.
Josh Rodriguez
Patrick, let's do it. We had. Because we don't have the podcast every day, we have a lot to catch up on it. Yeah.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Catch talking Cowboys starts at 10:05.
Josh Rodriguez
What are we just catching up? So, first and foremost, let's start with some transactions. Obviously, everyone knows the headliners for free agency that are coming up. The George Pickens of the world, Javante, Williams County. But before you get to free agency officially, what you have to do is decide on which players that are currently under contract. Your practice squad guys, some of your fringe players that you would like to keep their rights to and that those are called futures deals.
Isaiah Stanbach
Future, not signing future.
Josh Rodriguez
So futures deals were signed effective last week, early last week. And here are the names for those players who. Whose rights are being controlled by the Cowboys through training camp, assuming that they are still on the roster at that point. We got safety Julius Wood, obviously undrafted guy out of Syracuse. Show some things on the practice squad. Zion Childress, whom we are fans of. I like that name this program. Isaiah Land. We would like to see more from Isaiah Land. He's here to be developed some more. Offensive lineman Marcellus Johnson joined along with Nick Everett. Different points in the season. Paris Campbell, he gets another shot at developing.
Kyle Yeomans
Good for him.
Josh Rodriguez
Yep. Tren Holden, who we are fans of on this program, showed some great things in training camp. Didn't necessarily parlay those. He had a couple of plays in the preseason, but as far as.
Isaiah Stanbach
Was he here all year?
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, he was here all year.
Kyle Yeomans
All of these names are, like, throwing me back to summer and training camp. And, like, watching from the sidelines in the preseason games, like, that's just what.
Patrick Nosi Walker
All this, like, hold is making the 53 Isaiah land.
Josh Rodriguez
Except for this one. I'm about to say, where the heck is Zion? Let me see if I can nail. Let me see if I can nail this.
Kyle Yeomans
Okay.
Josh Rodriguez
Israel.
Patrick Nosi Walker
What?
Josh Rodriguez
I always mess his name up. Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Abanakanda.
Josh Rodriguez
We had this. This sidebar upstairs where Kyle was telling this funny story. Each one of these names, like, you have to commit to learning these names. And he's not been here long enough for me to have committed to learning the name I respect. Abenacanda.
Patrick Nosi Walker
A ban of Candida.
Josh Rodriguez
I'll get it, Israel. I promise I'll get it, Israel.
Patrick Nosi Walker
It kind of flew off the tongue, but if you don't really look at.
Josh Rodriguez
It, you're just like, I'm so proud that he. He had it nailed down.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
Ahead of a broadcast that he made sure he said it, like, 10 times. Unnecessary.
Patrick Nosi Walker
That's the thing. I'm surprised that I got it along with. I mean, I know Kyle would get it.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
You got it.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah, I got it.
Kyle Yeomans
But that's the thing is, like, when you start studying these names and abandoned Canada, was a guy in the draft that I really liked out of Pittsburgh. So when I was doing draft work and usually right around Senior Bow Combine, we get like, a pronunciation guide or we go and look it up from the colleges, and as they go through, we sift through it and kind of get the pronunciations down for the tough names in the draft. So I make a point to go in and study that. So that way, when they are picked on draft day or if they come up in conversation through the draft process, that I'm able to hit it. But it's even more so imperative when I'm calling a game. So, like, these random names that'll pop up that have 15 syllables and they, like, have all nothing, no vowels in the entire name. And you got to find a way to say it the right. But say it in the middle of a play.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
You have to study those names. Isaiah can speak to this. That's been one of the big things for you.
Isaiah Stanbach
Sure.
Kyle Yeomans
As you've gotten higher and higher in.
Isaiah Stanbach
This business, even crazier starting next week.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Well, I mean, when you get all the syllables that are the same in a row, like a horror. You know what I mean?
Josh Rodriguez
Like those names are Candace. See, I got it.
Kyle Yeomans
Polynesian.
Isaiah Stanbach
I like the simple names like Ma.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, Phil, Mafa.
Isaiah Stanbach
By the way, the trailer dropped. You see that?
Patrick Nosi Walker
I did not.
Josh Rodriguez
Surrey.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I was too busy watching the bone temple yesterday.
Josh Rodriguez
Oh, I need to review on that. Okay, so those guys are going to be your futures and just turn it down really quickly Again, your futures deals are Abana Canda, Holden Campbell, Everett, Marcellus Johnson, Isaiah Land, Zion Childress and Julius Wood. The players that did not get. Four players did not get futures deals. They are officially headed the free agency, but they'll probably be in one way shape or perform. Some of these will make their way back to training camp because we've seen it happen. Princeton Fat, Will Greer, Jalen Cropper, Ernest Brown. Not necessarily sure, but Jalen Crawford tends to stick around, find his way back in training camp. Princeton Fat been here for a while now. Yeah, Princeton Fat most certainly does. And Will Greer, because the Cowboys are still unsettled at backup quarterback, he could have a shot at coming back and trying to do some things. So those are the transactions. Now, on a not positive note, Cowboys had some issues with the law. Okay, so rookie defensive end Donovan as Raku unfortunately was arrested by Plano police. And what we know is what I'm going to read you right? From Texas Department of Public Safety. Okay. Because in legal matters, we only speak of what we know. We don't speculate at all. At 11:54pm a DPS trooper observed a vehicle being operated recklessly on the southbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway in Plano. I. Josh might have snitched because Josh lives in Plano. The trooper initiated a traffic stop to investigate, which ultimately led to the arrest of the driver. And it lists Donovan as Rocco. So that's all we know. We don't know the determination or the reason for the determination of reckless driving. We don't know, you know. So we're not going to speculate. Yeah, that's what we know. Cowboys have not issued a statement on it just yet.
Kyle Yeomans
They actually said no comment.
Josh Rodriguez
No comment via the.
Kyle Yeomans
The public relations department.
Josh Rodriguez
It is a class B misdemeanor and we'll let that flesh itself out. My additional concern is an obvious one is course that opens the possibility of an NFL probe and whenever an NFL probe is open, that opens the possibility of a suspension for the next season. So keep an eye on that going forward for Donovan. Israel.
Lowe's Commercial Announcer
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
I hate to see that.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
And just stay safe out there, guys. I don't know why. I mean, it might be fun to drive fast. I love driving fast. I love racing. I love all that kind of stuff. But like, you gotta be safe, man. Your life's in your hands at that point and the lives of other people are in your hands at that point too.
Josh Rodriguez
So we'll see how that unfolds. But you know, the off season is here and guys just need to be smart.
Kyle Yeomans
And I believe his agent released a statement. You can go see that online as well. Where he basically talked about how he's going to learn from this experience. There was no alcohol involved, so all of that is good. But you still gotta.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
If you're gonna learn, learn from this experience and move forward.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah. Young man. We've all been young. We've all made mistakes, so there's a lot of things. Yeah. We're not gonna. Yeah. We're not gonna get on the holier than thou. The good thing is is that no one was hurt. Yeah. He can learn his lesson without him or someone else have, you know, being hurt.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Perfect.
Josh Rodriguez
No alcohol was involved. So takes this lesson, he goes forward. We'll see what happens and we'll see how the NFL chooses to handle it.
Isaiah Stanbach
I was going to say that underneath reckless driving because that's what he got arrested for. Correct?
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Okay.
Isaiah Stanbach
There's excessive speeding.
Julian Edelman
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
Excessive speed.
Isaiah Stanbach
30 to 40 miles per hour over the speed limit. So if you're in a 70, you may be going 100. You're going excessive driving.
Josh Rodriguez
I just haven't got.
Isaiah Stanbach
Driving under the influence. We just say that he was not under the influence. Yep. Tailgating, disregarding traffic signals or stop signs. He's on a freeway. So none of that racing other vehicles, potentially swerving erratically or making dangerous U turns. Well, we're not doing any U turns on the tollway, so.
Josh Rodriguez
And swerving. I'm not his.
Kyle Yeomans
So basically he was just driving fast.
Josh Rodriguez
Fast. Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
And swerving erratically. Could. I mean, that's. That's to the changing determine. Yeah. That could be determined by the trooper. That's subjective. Correct. Trooper determined that if he was fined or cited for reckless driving because of that lane change. You know, we. Aggressive lane changes happen depending on what city you're from.
Kyle Yeomans
Absolutely.
Josh Rodriguez
They happen all the time. And if. If you do an aggressive lane change.
Kyle Yeomans
I saw. I saw Patrick do it one this morning. Whenever he.
Josh Rodriguez
See what I mean when I say snitches.
Isaiah Stanbach
Oh, sorry.
Josh Rodriguez
I just talked.
Isaiah Stanbach
That was Quick.
Josh Rodriguez
Just talked about snitches. It'd be your Frisco police. It'd be your own guys. All right, but now we'll see. All jokes aside, thankfully, thankfully, thankfully. Can't stress this. Stress this enough. No one was hurt. No alcohol was involved. Lesson to be learned here by the young man. He's, you know what, 20, 21. He'll learn from it. And let's see how the NFL handles. Handles it.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah. All right, we've got some grades to hand out to. Oh, it's the end of the year. We've now had a kind of a week to kind of settle in on what the 2025 season was for Dallas. Today we're going to give out our report card grades across the board. We're going to just fill out the report card. Each subject, each position group. But I want to start in this segment. We got about five minutes here. I want to start with Brian Schottenheimer, year one as head coach in the NFL.
Isaiah Stanbach
What is this out of? Is this a numbered scale or is.
Kyle Yeomans
This is A through F letter grade?
Patrick Nosi Walker
Letter grades.
Josh Rodriguez
Bone temple. What do you got? What do you got?
Kyle Yeomans
That's a terrible nickname.
Josh Rodriguez
I don't know. Movie's pretty badass, so it might be.
Kyle Yeomans
A pretty good 28 years later, baby.
Patrick Nosi Walker
All right, let me give Shotty a B minus. I feel like not only did he have a lot of. I mean, the whole team had a lot of struggles throughout the season. I mean, of course on the defensive side, but like the personal side and personnel. I mean, if you. I mean, look at it. Marshawn Nealon, of course, like that happening in the middle of the season was a big hurdle to. To get through. And, you know, it motivated your team obviously through a three game win streak, which I think is the encapsulation of what you expect from Brighton, Brian Schneider moving forward. Yeah, I think that three game stretch told you what you needed to know. And I think right after that, when, you know, you go up to Detroit and you lose that game, that kind of. It brought you back to earth a little bit, you know, because they're riding high on that three game win streak. The second you lose that game, it kind of, it's indicative of where the team was really at, you know. Yeah, you looked really strong in those three games. And then to lose a must win game in Detroit, that kind of showed all of the bruising and the. The true identity of the personnel that you guys that you had. To me, that was. That was sort of the nail in the coffin. For the season. However, that three game win streak, please reference that going forward in terms of.
Kyle Yeomans
Brian, that's where you got to build.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Because that felt like the culture, the personnel, everyone coming together and that's how I think the identity of the team will be moving forward once we have better personnel, better coaching, all those things. But I think that was the, the antithesis of that.
Isaiah Stanbach
Okay, I, I too am going to go B minus. Reasons being a big portion of that obviously is because the playoffs were not getting hit.
Kyle Yeomans
Right.
Isaiah Stanbach
So you're definitely not getting an A. I think that he handled and he handled a number of storms this year. Obviously Marshawn Neyland, obviously the trade of your best defensive player, the disgruntledness of another one of your. Your other supposed best defensive player.
Kyle Yeomans
Very true.
Isaiah Stanbach
And then dismissal of him at the end of the season and he had.
Patrick Nosi Walker
A good game against the losing playoff game, right?
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah, yeah, yeah. One play losing two guys, losing two.
Kyle Yeomans
Guys who are supposed to be huge.
Isaiah Stanbach
Contributors for your defense is a lot to bear culturally for your team for. Especially for a new coach coming in trying to.
Kyle Yeomans
Especially with the brash personalities that they both had.
Isaiah Stanbach
Absolutely.
Josh Rodriguez
Right.
Isaiah Stanbach
So there's a little, a lot of resistance there.
Josh Rodriguez
Right.
Isaiah Stanbach
So Shoddy came out and did his thing on offense, but when you're the head coach, you're responsible for more than one third of the game.
Josh Rodriguez
He.
Isaiah Stanbach
I don't believe that he fully had his imprint on the defense as a whole. No, not talking to calling plays. I'm talking about to the character and identity that he is trying to embody within his team. I don't think that was represented defensively consistently. And I definitely don't think that what he is, what he stands for was his imprint was definitely not there on the special teams unit. So he started talking about one third of the game was what he envisions his team to be from the character, from the competitiveness, from the will and determination. I is it's a B minus minus maybe, you know what I'm saying from that regard. Because I believe that it's his responsibility to ensure that these coaches are getting the most out of their players. Regardless of who you have on your roster, that identity should still be there. That ethos should still show up in all aspects of the game. You might not be as successful, but you should know that. Okay, that's still a shoddy team.
Josh Rodriguez
Right.
Isaiah Stanbach
Or that's still a. Whatever type of type of team. So I, I'm probably going B minus minus in that regard. He handled the storms, did not make the playoffs and did not show the character of the team through two thirds of the phase of the game. So I'm B minus minus.
Josh Rodriguez
I was close to B minus. I'm just going to land right on a C. I'm going to land on a C. I don't even like Cs but I'm a land on the side.
Kyle Yeomans
They get degrees.
Josh Rodriguez
The reason I say that is because like, like you guys are talking about there are levels to great and shoddy because he's not only the head coach, he is the offensive play caller as well. So then you have to kind of parse and parcel those things. So when you, when you extrapolate the, the offensive play call inside of it, for me that's a B minus because it's, it's impossible to give him a failing grade or anything near it. When you have a 4,000 yard passer, a thousand yard rusher, 2,000 yard receivers, that, that, that matters. He had a historic season means something. But what I don't like from the offensive play calling standpoint is I saw too much inconsistency. Yes, okay, absolutely. Even if we look at just the back half of the season and shrink it to this one micro. They went from having fast starts, excuse me, slow starts and fast finishes. And the question was can you figure out the fast starts? Well, they figured that out and then they started having fast starts and, and cold finishes, soul finishes. So there has to be consistency through four quarters there of his offensive play calling. And yes, it goes in execution as well. But the, when it becomes a trend then you have to look at the coach. Okay, so offensive play caller, we talked about it. He does have room to grow, he does have room to evolve. He's exciting to know that he had a record setting offense and still has room to grow. But the fact is the inconsistency drops the grade to be minus from offensive play caller and then head coach we'll get to in a second.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Oh well, yeah, just, just on that. It's like you could almost split up those things into their own categories too. Like you're giving Shoddy an overall grade but if you could give shoddy a grade for offensive play calling versus like culture, you know what I mean? Like those all different scores but at.
Kyle Yeomans
The end of the day you're the head coach. All of it falls under your umbrella.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Absolutely.
Josh Rodriguez
And as head coach it's a D. Right. So if I'm going to give him the B minus for an offensive play caller, I'm going to give him a D for a head coach, the reason I'm not going to fail him as a head coach is because he really did weather a lot of storms, none bigger than the loss of Marshawn Ne Right. So he was able to pull the team together, be that leader that the team needed. And there was accountability that was held to. When you talk about players like Jay and Blue and players on the offensive side of the ball, the account was there.
Kyle Yeomans
That's the key.
Josh Rodriguez
Jaylen Tober offensive side of the ball that's why I said it that way. On the offensive side of the ball, the accountability was 100% there. So from that capacity as a head coach, you're looking good. Here's where you almost failed the defensive side of the ball. He wasn't involved nearly as early enough. When the defensive side of the ball started failing. From a coaching standpoint, coordinator with Matt Eber flu didn't get involved early enough, didn't have as heavy of a hand as he needed to. Once he did get involved, okay. The accountability that existed within for the players on the offensive side of the ball seems to have been deleted on the defensive side of the ball. And we can throw names subjectively. You could say Jack Sam Born was on the field too long prior to getting injured. You could say Kenneth Murray got too many snaps when Maris Leophil should have been getting developed. All of these things and more. Okay. Defensive side of the ball was a complete and utter failure. That is an F offensive side of the ball was successful. So when you mix all these greats together and this is including. I posed the question because I think Eber Fluss, if once the writing was on the wall, should have been let go in December and you should have test driven white cotton so that when you're interviewing white cotton amongst these other candidates, which we'll get to, you would have had that real time data to say this is what the buy in might be. So all told, C and I don't.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Know if it was confirmed or not, but they were saying because of the move from Eber Fluss to the booth, that kind of led them to determine if white cotton was a suitable voice for the sideline defense. De facto coordinator on the field.
Isaiah Stanbach
That ain't enough.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, no, they were like, make it enough.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But it didn't look any better. It looked exactly the same as you used to. But again, to your point, there was no accountability on the defensive side of the ball.
Josh Rodriguez
Exactly. And, and white cotton when, when, when Eberfluss moved to the booth. Yes. White cotton was then tasked with doing a bit more on the sideline, but really he was still just communicating the plays. Yeah, yeah, he wasn't calling the plays. So the test drive still did not exist.
Kyle Yeomans
And we've seen some of the behind the scenes footage from this, from the, the sounds of the sideline. If one guy was keeping people accountable, it would have been Aaron White Cotton. In my opinion.
Isaiah Stanbach
There is, he needs to be here regardless.
Kyle Yeomans
There is proof that he was an accountability for that defense part of it. Not all of it, but just pieces of the accountability as a whole. Now we got to move on or else we're not going to get to any other grades. But I do want to say my grade C minus. I'm a big believer in Bill Parcells quote the you, you are who your record says you are. Which you're 7, 9 and 1. So for me even 500 is C. Being below 500 means you're probably a D plus. C minus. I'm going to give him the upper edge of a C minus because he did weather some things and as you guys already outlined and talked about, all of that is the case. So I'm going to say a C minus for Brian Schottenheimer. Why are you looking at me like that?
Isaiah Stanbach
Such a harsh father.
Kyle Yeomans
You are what your record says you are. You were 7, 9 and 1 and you're below 500.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah, with that line of thinking, Dax going to be a C minus too. Like everybody down.
Kyle Yeomans
Prescott was not below 500. But with that being said, we do have to talk about the offense. When we come back, we're going to give our offensive grades for the 2025 season. More talking Cowboys right after this.

Kyle Yeomans
I completely agree with that.
Julian Edelman
They also have daisy ranch dip. I love ranch dip.
Kyle Yeomans
It was great.
Julian Edelman
I love it. With crackers, wings, plain potato chip, the ones with the little crinkles, maybe some bell peppers. So get out there and give Daisy French onion dip a try. You will not regret it.

Back to talking cowboys. Back Here on talking Cowboys presented by Black Rifle Coffee Co. The official coffee of the Dallas Cowboys. Moving on to our official grade of the season on the offensive side of the football. Let's start with the quarterback position. Josh, you mentioned it a moment ago. Where would you go with Dak Prescott?
Patrick Nosi Walker
I mean if this is Kyle's great, it's going to be C minus because your record is what you said head coach. This is what I'm saying. Dak Prescott Prescott earned an A grade for for the season. I think there were some games where obviously when protection was was kind of collapsing on him. It he wasn't as successful obviously because you need your team around you to be successful. But at least for Dak Prescott, for my money, he was the best player on the field on both sides of the ball. Absolutely. And just genuinely a reason why he's the highest paid player on your team. I don't think there's any doubt about it. If you think the failure of your season is on deck shoulders. I I vehemently disagree with you. Dak Prescott is.
Kyle Yeomans
Is the feel like you were being nice there?
Patrick Nosi Walker
No, I genuinely. I mean come on man. Like you're just not watching the same thing that we're watching.
Josh Rodriguez
What do we.
Isaiah Stanbach
That's a door.
Patrick Nosi Walker
What are we doing here? He was the best player that you had. So. And you want to build on that. He's at an elite level and please, please, please do everything you can front office to put the best players around Dak Prescott right, right now in prime.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, I feel like we're going to piss off the decaters today within the family. But it is what it is. It's an A for me. It's not an A because it did leave some meat on the bone. Believe it or not. 4,000 plus yard passer overtook Tony Romo for the franchise leader in that category. As far as single season goes, so or all time I should say. But what I saw from Dak Prescott was more decisiveness. I saw throws that looked better all over the field. No matter if you. Because we all know he seemed God, but you saw him making throws consist consistently outside of that that prove that he's an elite quarterback. What I also saw, which I can't stress enough is more often than not in the past several years this season when Dak Prescott saw green, he took green. Okay. He used his mobility, he got active with his legs. Is he the fastest guy out there? Absolutely not. But he tried to make some things happen and he moved the chain several times with his legs as well, keep that going. Dak Prescott. That'll help alleviate whatever issues with the offensive line that the Cowboys might have. To Josh's point, fix the offensive line and fix it this year. However you need to do it, fix it. Free agency, draft, whatever you need to do, fix it. But for Dak Prescott, it's an A.
Isaiah Stanbach
For me, yeah, it's A for everything that you guys said.
Kyle Yeomans
I want to add just a stat to this and I'm right there with you. I'm going to say A across the board. Isaiah and I cancel each other out a lot, which is really fun because he's got the quarterback vision and the the film study. I watch film, but I was never a quarterback, so I it's still not to the same level, so I tend to rely on stats quite a bit to back up what I'm seeing on the film. I looked at this stat the other day and I said this is the microcosm of what Dak Prescott has been as the quarterback in 2025. Dak Prescott targeted a tight window on nearly 20%, 20% of his attempts this season. That's the second highest rate in the league. His targets average 3.3 yards of separation. It's the seventh fewest in the NFL. So you're telling me the targets that he's throwing to have the seventh worst separation in the NFL? He's targeted them more than anybody else except for one person in the NFL on tight window throws. And he finished as the number three passer in the NFL. Also, not to mention he has a top five highest tight window rate in each of the last four seasons. So this is not an anomaly with Dak Prescott. That means that dude's ballin. That's all that is. That is you are in a situation that is not favorable for you as a quarterback and you still ended up as a league leader, as one of the best players on the field and continued to be a franchise quarterback. A for Dak, not an A plus because you need to have a little jewelry. I think in my opinion, to have an A plus or at least get close to the jewelry to get an A plus, he didn't get there. But as far as he could control in 2025, it was about as good of a season as you could ask for from Dak Prescott. So I'm going to give him and.
Josh Rodriguez
A real quick stat to add to that and we'll move on is the Cowboys receivers led the league in potential yards lost due to drops.
Isaiah Stanbach
Wow.
Kyle Yeomans
So add another layer.
Josh Rodriguez
Almost 4,600 yards passing 30 touchdowns to only 10 interceptions and everything that Kyle just said. But Cowboys receivers left the most yardage on the field via Dr. Than any of the 32 NFL team.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I don't like those words.
Kyle Yeomans
Running back, what's your grade for running back, Pat?
Josh Rodriguez
For the room.
Kyle Yeomans
For the room. Not just one. Not just Javante.
Josh Rodriguez
Because I believe in Javante. Javante gets the A plus. Oh, Javante Williams. Let's see. Javante gets the A plus. I'm going to give Malik and A. Because nobody expected. Few expected Malik to. To do what he did in the backup role and staving off Jay and Blue, but behind those two guys. Oh, things did not look good. You didn't get to see Phil Mafa until week 18 and then you saw, you know, only a handful of carries. They didn't really use them. Love what I saw from Jay and Blue, but not until that game.
Isaiah Stanbach
Talking about Miles Sanders.
Josh Rodriguez
Miles Sanders. That experiment did not work out whatsoever.
Isaiah Stanbach
Buddy. Oh, pal.
Kyle Yeomans
He was.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He had a few good carries. He had a few good carries.
Josh Rodriguez
He got hurt. He got hurt early on.
Kyle Yeomans
Yes.
Josh Rodriguez
Ended his season. Yep. Did the experiment work out? Out? It was fine. No, no, no. This is, this is not me throwing shade. It didn't work out. It either worked or it didn't work. Did it work?
Kyle Yeomans
I don't know if it's over yet, so I don't know if I'm going to say it did work, but it hasn't worked. I guess that's fine.
Josh Rodriguez
Did it work in 25 for a part, Sanders?
Julian Edelman
No.
Josh Rodriguez
Just let it go.
Kyle Yeomans
This is not letting go.
Josh Rodriguez
Sanders. The fact of the matter is he came in, he show, he showed some things at training camp. Show some things, you know, preseason early.
Kyle Yeomans
Gotta hold on to the ball.
Josh Rodriguez
Gotta hold on to the ball. Yeah. That was big.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
That mean it.
Josh Rodriguez
That was big. But ultimately it didn't work out in 25. Maybe he gets another shot here in 26. But bottom line is the science is the science. It didn't work out. Okay, A plus for Javante, A for Malik Davis. But then you start getting into the, the D's and the failing grades, but they carry so C plus.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Okay, I'm going to be. I think, I think mainly because of course, Javante Williams is not someone that we expected really to have the season that he did. Going into training camp, I think we were all sort of like, all right, what are we doing with running back situation? It's been two years now that we haven't had a solidified number one running back. Javante Obviously made an impact this season. He's a guy that you want energy moving forward. I hope you resign him. But then again, I don't think there was enough behind Javante. I really don't. Malik Davis was definitely a great spellb.
Kyle Yeomans
Back, but even that was unexpected.
Patrick Nosi Walker
It was totally even.
Kyle Yeomans
The team didn't know that they had that because they cut him and then they brought him back and they were like, okay, maybe this guy's got something. And that was a surprise.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Absolutely. And I think what you were expecting to get out of Jaden Blue and Phil Mafa obviously did not come to fruition during the season. And whenever you did have Jaden Blue, obviously there were some characteristics or just like culture things that he wasn't necessarily getting right to get him on the field. And, you know, he was inactive basically the season. A guy that you would expect to carry some of the load with Javante, but use Javante and you ran him into the ground, obviously. I mean, he had a lot of health issues towards the end of the season and playing through a lot of injuries too. B plus for the group. I think if your offensive line would have been better, might have gotten an.
Isaiah Stanbach
A. I, sir, have to stand on this table and say that at the training camp, talking Cowboys, I was perfectly fine with the running back room.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, you were.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
I give you credit.
Isaiah Stanbach
I felt pretty good about it. Everybody didn't want to give Javonte anymore any, any love. And I was like, hey, that man can play some ball.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Isaiah Stanbach
You know, so I, I give the whole room B plus. I give the whole room a B plus. Mainly because of the stamps that I don't believe that they were ever a threat in the passing game. That's one aspect that I would have liked to have seen. And I also think that we were not as explosive. We didn't have the explosive plays out of that particular position group the way which you would have hoped. And that's because the, the, you know, that we had the one punch. You didn't have the. The two portion of the one, two. You guys just mentioned some of the reasons why. Right.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Malik Davis had quite a few of those too, though.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, like he had more explosive plays than anybody.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah, for sure.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, absolutely.
Kyle Yeomans
But it was mostly late in the year. It was exactly that episode.
Isaiah Stanbach
So had we had that earlier in the year that might have, you know, snuck into.
Kyle Yeomans
I think they were hoping that to be Sanders. He gets hurt. Then they were hoping it to Blue.
Josh Rodriguez
Blue.
Kyle Yeomans
He doesn't show out the way that he wanted to. Then they find Malik Davis and they're like, oh, wow, he can do that.
Isaiah Stanbach
Which he's been around for the last, last 14 years. Whatever.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He's been a long time.
Kyle Yeomans
That long?
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah, I know he's been around, bro.
Patrick Nosi Walker
It feels like forever.
Kyle Yeomans
He's had a good camp.
Josh Rodriguez
That's crazy. Yeah.
Isaiah Stanbach
So, no, so I give B plus.
Kyle Yeomans
I'm right there with you. B. And they were top 10 in yards per game. They were ninth in that category. Ninth, I think in yards per play as well. That means you're a top 10 rushing attack. And we're talking about the guys that get the Cs and the apps. Kind of the way that Patrick outlined it a moment ago. The majority of the carries went to the guys that I'm going to grade highly. That's Williams, that's Davis of course. So I'm going to. I'm going to give him a B. I think it was a solid running game. It was better than I anticipated it because I was very negative toward that early. I like Javante Williams as a signing but I thought it was because it was a value. I didn't think he would be a 1200 yard rusher with 10 touchdowns. That's different. That's where he exceeded my expectations. Millie Davis of course exceeded my expectations. Everybody else, that was my expectation. Jaden Blue, I didn't expect much from Phil Moffo. Didn't even get on the team until the final week of the regular season. So there's still worry in the running back room, especially if you don't bring back Javante. But Javante exceeded expectations. So I got to give it a B quick.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yes. No on this for you guys. Do you change the running back room at all from what it is right now?
Isaiah Stanbach
No.
Kyle Yeomans
If like at all, like bring everybody back. No, I'm good.
Josh Rodriguez
No, I'm good.
Kyle Yeomans
I can do it.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You're cool with this? Yeah, Be cool as is.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Because I need no extra juice.
Josh Rodriguez
Need to see more from Jason. I would love from Mafa.
Isaiah Stanbach
Stay the same with development. Development.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, yeah, I would.
Isaiah Stanbach
Personnel wise.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Because to grow in. In week 18 you did see Jaden Blue. You did see Phil Mafa. I think they showed you good things that you're like, man, where was this during the season, dude. But if you keep that personnel, obviously some maturing needs to happen.
Kyle Yeomans
Good question.
Isaiah Stanbach
I think you have personality. Personnel wise, you have everything that you want. Javante Williams gives you the most versatile of everything.
Josh Rodriguez
Yes.
Isaiah Stanbach
Then you have Blue. If he can come along, that's your explosive back. And Then you got Phil Mafa, who's your power quarterback. Those are. That's. You have the aspects that you want, right? The, the. The holes that you need to feel now, are they where they need to be at? No, but that falls under responsibility of the coaches.
Kyle Yeomans
Don't forget about.
Josh Rodriguez
Keep those four and then you got your fifth in a banda.
Kyle Yeomans
All right, we're going to go rapid fire here, Everybody. You get 30 seconds to give your point wide receiver go. Your. Your time's already started.
Josh Rodriguez
I know, but I got to think.
Patrick Nosi Walker
So let. Let me go, let me go. Wide receiver.
Isaiah Stanbach
A.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Of course, C.D. lam, George Pickens, two 1, 000 yard receivers. And of course you saw Floyd step up, be the third receiver halfway through this. All right, man, I'm talking like, damn.
Kyle Yeomans
Plus five seconds. You got it. Go.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah. Flournoy finally stepped up halfway through the season. You gave him a shot when obviously everyone was ready for that to happen. And I think now you have three wide receivers. As long as you resign. George Pickens, please do that.
Josh Rodriguez
A now talk over me for five seconds so we can balance it.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I wouldn't do that to you, man.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, I know. We can't do like the other show. I'm going B plus. And the reason I say B plus is because obviously you talk about 2,000 yard receivers in CD and George and then the, the, you know, Rifle noise showing out like he needed to show up, see you flow. But at the same time, CD Lamb, he did suffer some injury. He missed some games. He had some critical drops. That kind of cost. I mean, it cost. First Philly game, the Eagles game in the opener. Kevante Turpin, he was inconsistent. He contributed, but then he didn't contribute. Jalen Tolbert moved backwards. So all told, B plus.
Isaiah Stanbach
Give me a minus.
Kyle Yeomans
Why is that?
Isaiah Stanbach
I mean, everything. You guys already said it. Solid group. Definitely a threatening group. I think probably the most dangerous outside of the Rams in terms of combos this year. Yeah, they were successful. And then you had, you know, you had an actual number three receiver step up. So I mean, they're, they're a dangerous unit unit. When you. For any defensive coordinator, you know, if.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You keep that three.
Isaiah Stanbach
If you keep that three.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, yeah, if you keep that three. I'm good with whatever else else happens in that room.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Terp can be the same role.
Kyle Yeomans
That's fine where he's at.
Isaiah Stanbach
That group gets more dangerous with better play from Jake Ferguson.
Kyle Yeomans
Okay, 100. With that being said, I'm going to say A minus for wide receivers. Tight ends get Us started tight ends.
Isaiah Stanbach
I'm going to go B minus the this year.
Kyle Yeomans
Interesting. I'm surprised you gave it a B. Yeah, B minus. Okay.
Isaiah Stanbach
I just, I mean they were subjected to the calls that were being. They were, they were being had. Right. So they were doing a lot of helping the offensive line. The offensive line really affected their ability this year to be able to push things down the field. I think we saw early on there's a disconnection between Dak and the tight end group and they came on later on and became great red zone threats and nice five yard options. But they were not what you would hope to them to have been collectively as a unit in terms of being a threat in the seams and alleviating pressure from the outside receivers.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I am at a C right now for tight ends. I think Jake Ferguson alone is not enough of a target. Is it not? I think he needs help on the other side on his opposite side. And I'm kind of tired. I'm a little.
Josh Rodriguez
You don't think he has it?
Patrick Nosi Walker
No, not that I don't think he has it. I think he needs help. I think he needs a tight end on the other side of him that is more of a threat in the receiving game. Because you've relied so much on tight ends blocking for you because the offensive line has not been where it needs to be that I feel like without a true threat at tight end on the opposite side of Jake Ferguson, you don't have the, the most efficient offense because everyone knows like all right, as long as we got Jake covered, as long as we have CD cover covered, we're pretty much okay. For me you would only improve Jake Ferguson's production by having a receiving tight end on the other side. That's going to give you some athleticism, some run after catch ability. To me that was Brevin span forward. They didn't rely on him.
Isaiah Stanbach
That's what I'm saying.
Kyle Yeomans
I would argue he's on.
Isaiah Stanbach
That's why I asked.
Kyle Yeomans
He's there and he wasn't utilized.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But they don't rely on him as a receiving threat. Yeah, I mean he, whenever he did have the ball in his hands, whenever he did make a catch.
Isaiah Stanbach
Electric.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He was electric.
Isaiah Stanbach
That's why I asked you a question. Do they have the guy or do you need to go get the guy?
Patrick Nosi Walker
They have the guy.
Josh Rodriguez
I agree.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I, I know their thought is like, well, he needs to be a great run blocker. Please stop with that. Just because his size make the offensive line better.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, C minus really quickly. So C minus overall. Jake Ferguson had a career best start. He had a cold finish. He also suffered fumbles this season. Didn't see. I mean he saw a player too from Schoolmaker, but over the course of the entire season, it was a forgettable season for Schoonmaker. We just talked about Brevispan Ford is on the roster. However, they've yet to unleash him as a receiving threat. And behind Brevin Spann forward, you have more, more of your special teams guys. Like a Princeton fan. Yeah. Right. So as a whole, C minus.
Kyle Yeomans
I'm right there with you. C minus. I just don't think it was the. You saw the fast start to the season to Jake Ferguson. You saw exactly what their vision of him was. We're going to give the five yards and a cloud of dust and just get him reception after reception after reception. He finished second on the team in receptions, but he finished fifth on the team in yards, I believe behind Pickens Lamb. Flanoy is fourth on the team in yards.
Isaiah Stanbach
So my only pushback to you guys rankings. You guys are entitled to your rankings.
Josh Rodriguez
Obviously.
Isaiah Stanbach
I think the room got better. Jake took a step back. The room got better.
Kyle Yeomans
You're saying Spam Ford.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I think Schoolmaker did get better.
Isaiah Stanbach
Schoolmaker got better. Schoolmaker made strides. Yeah. Brevin Spamford made strides. Both of those guys are substantially better tight ends points this year than they were last year. It's not even close.
Kyle Yeomans
Part of that is because my expectation was going to be higher for them.
Isaiah Stanbach
Okay. So.
Kyle Yeomans
So I thought they were a D last.
Isaiah Stanbach
I think those guys.
Kyle Yeomans
So I do think they got better. I think we're not very good.
Isaiah Stanbach
Those guys made a heck of a leap in a bound. I think Jake took a step back.
Josh Rodriguez
Right.
Isaiah Stanbach
So I think obviously a lot is. Is on his shoulders, you know, bearing the weight of the tight end room, which he does. But we have to take it. Okay, Jake's over here. What did the rest of the room do?
Kyle Yeomans
They got back.
Isaiah Stanbach
Jake went down a notch.
Josh Rodriguez
Notch.
Isaiah Stanbach
The rest of the room went up one and a half notches to me. So I think the room collectively is more dangerous as a unit.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Isaiah Stanbach
Jake was not as dangerous as an individual outside of his. His routes that he was running.
Kyle Yeomans
I like that. But it's all perspective because last year I thought they were a D or a D plus. Now I'm giving them a C or a C minus. I like they are better.
Isaiah Stanbach
I like that you.
Kyle Yeomans
I just don't think they're there.
Josh Rodriguez
Right. And I can't rightfully give the wide receivers a B plus, which is what I'm standing on. And then give the tight ends a B or C plus like because the gang gap is noticeable from wide receiver to tight end.
Kyle Yeomans
So you said it yourself.
Josh Rodriguez
You said this is a noticeable game.
Kyle Yeomans
The wide receivers could have benefited from.
Isaiah Stanbach
Jake running down the field.
Kyle Yeomans
Yes. Go. Just get up there.
Isaiah Stanbach
Get on the tight end.
Kyle Yeomans
All right, quickly. Offensive line, go.
Patrick Nosi Walker
C minus for me.
Kyle Yeomans
Okay.
Josh Rodriguez
D. Your offensive tackles.
Kyle Yeomans
I would say I'll say a C minus.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah, I'm gonna say.
Josh Rodriguez
I'm gonna say a C. Tyler Booker carries. Tyler Smith carries.
Kyle Yeomans
Great, great.
Josh Rodriguez
Cooper, BB had injury, missed some time, but he. He helps carry. Perry. That's fair. But you're off. And that's a discussion. But your offensive tackles were a wreck. Yeah, it was you. You failed. Do you have what Terrence still had a good stretch, like during that three game win streak that you talked about.
Kyle Yeomans
And when guys available, he's okay.
Isaiah Stanbach
Serviceable.
Josh Rodriguez
Right. But again, but you got to factor that in. Lack of availability. Correct. And then Nate Thomas, when he played, he didn't play well. But then he suffered from availability issues to the point where you had to pop Tyler Smith out. Created this whole storm of. Is he a guard? Is here. Your offensive tackle position failed you. That's an F. So with me, overall, it's a D because some carry, but not enough to get it to a.
Patrick Nosi Walker
C. Smith and Booker are the only dogs on your offensive line.
Josh Rodriguez
A plus for Booker. A plus for Tyler Smith. Tyler, BB I'd say a C. Right.
Kyle Yeomans
Cooper.
Josh Rodriguez
Then it goes Hoover. Bibi. I'm sorry, Tyler Bibi. But then it goes right off of a cliff. Yeah. When you get to the. To the outside. So.
Kyle Yeomans
All right, we're going to take our second break. We're not going to do defensive grades in this show because I don't want to rush it. We'll do it in the next show next week because we have another one next week. I want to talk about the defense a little bit, but when we come back, let's talk about some of the names that have popped up in terms of coordinators. Coordinators that are requested for interviews. That's something we can talk about on this show because they've accepted the request and it's great. All right, more talking cowboys right after that.

Talking Cowboys Back here on Talking Cowboys presented by Black Rifle Coffee Company, the official coffee of the Dallas Cowboys. This segment is brought to you by Invisalign. The official smile of the Dallas Cowboys. Patrick Nosi Walker, Josh Rodriguez, Isaiah, stand back. Chris Beam in the back of Kyle Yeoman.
Josh Rodriguez
I am smiling.
Kyle Yeomans
You guys are goofy. All right, Patrick.
Josh Rodriguez
Yes, indeed.
Kyle Yeomans
There are six names. There are six that have been reported to be requested and or interviewed for the open defensive coordinator position. Who are those six names?
Josh Rodriguez
And each of these have either been interviewed already or will be interviewed today. Okay.
Kyle Yeomans
They're in the building.
Josh Rodriguez
One, at least one is expected to be in the building today or via Zoom. Depends. That would be Jonathan Gannon. So Jonathan Gannon, who was one of the names that I threw out there as a possible front runner and we talked about it last talked about him because he's a free agent having been moved apart ways with the relieving his duties from the Arizona Cardinals. So he's expected to be interviewed today.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Jonathan, a name you dropped last week, by the way. Give you credit for that.
Josh Rodriguez
Thank you so much. I'm going to start with some of these others and we're going to end on the more interesting ones. Right. So Jonathan Gannon is one we talked about. Aaron White Cotton. He's being interviewed for the position as well as it brought up lots of Durante Jones, Vikings defensive pass game coordinator. Okay, so of the product of tree.
Kyle Yeomans
Of Eber Fluz and I'm not Eberian.
Josh Rodriguez
Flores, not just Eber Flu, but Brian Flores. Yeah, Brian Flores is tree Ephraim Banda, the Browns safeties coach, a Jim Schwartz coaching tree guy. And this is where it really get in. Gets interesting for me. Okay, so you got Jim Leonard, Broncos defensive pass game coordinator. Okay.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Quickly move his way up in the ranks.
Josh Rodriguez
Oh, listen, who had an excellent call it an interview by manhandling the Cowboys offense in Denver earlier this season? Zach or Ravens defensive coordinator, North Texas guy, Mean Green guy. Okay.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He's.
Josh Rodriguez
He's being interviewed as well, and I think that's what. So let's see if from Banda Brown, safeties coach Durante Jones, Vikings defensive pass game coordinator Jim Leonard, Broncos defensive pass game coordinator John Jonathan Gannon, current free agent, former Eagles defensive coordinator in Arizona. Cardinals head coach Aaron White Cotton, incumbent defensive line coach here in Dallas. And Zach, or of the Unt, mean green. He's a DeSoto, Texas native.
Kyle Yeomans
He was with the Ravens as their.
Josh Rodriguez
He was the Ravens as their defensive coordinator. Those are your six candidates. And there was one denied request which came by way of the Atlanta Falcons who said, no, you cannot talk to Jeff Uber.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But they just fired their head coach. Man.
Josh Rodriguez
Why they still said no soup for you. Wow.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Rude.
Josh Rodriguez
It is still possible that.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But what if the new coach doesn't want to keep him around?
Kyle Yeomans
Well, that's possible.
Josh Rodriguez
There's the possibility the Cowboys can revisit, but as it stands, he's got to.
Kyle Yeomans
Wait until them to hire one and then go from there.
Patrick Nosi Walker
By that point, I mean, they're putting him at a decision.
Josh Rodriguez
So family discuss.
Kyle Yeomans
I'm interested because remember when we were breaking down the Cardinals tape and QB vision, you talked about the Cardinals don't run anything over the top, but they're going to do it in a disciplined manner and they were going to do it better than what you would anticipate from their personnel. So with the way Jonathan Gannon's name's been thrown around, that's an intriguing one for me because of the success that he's had in the building, or not in the building, but in the division and the way that he's against the building. Had some success against the building before. I think if I had to rank them out of those six names, number one would be Mr. Leonard.
Josh Rodriguez
Okay.
Kyle Yeomans
From Denver. I just love the possibility there. I love the fit. I love that there's a connection with Brian Schottenheimer from their time with the New York Jets.
Patrick Nosi Walker
What's his identity? Kyle?
Kyle Yeomans
Aggressive defense across the board and a little bit more of that. What was the way you put it? You sent me something the other day.
Josh Rodriguez
Oh, yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Leonard.
Isaiah Stanbach
Yeah, it was.
Kyle Yeomans
It's a way that he. When Shot the teacher he teaches. When Schottenheimer outlined what they wanted, a defensive coordinator, he named five or six elements and Leonard had all of those elements. And then there's even Bobby Belt, a fan of the or friend of the show and friend of the draft show as well. Posted a video where he clipped interviews from Leonard matching up exactly with what Brian Schottenheimer had. I think all of that's a great fit from an aggressive standpoint on defense and from a game plan standpoint. Comes from the right places and he's young and it can grow into the position. It's not a one stop shop one year guy. He can kind of get better as time goes on.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But he hasn't been a head coach before.
Kyle Yeomans
Kyle, I'm okay with that. Hasn't worked for you in the last couple tries.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Exactly.
Isaiah Stanbach
I just have a top two of those guys that you listed. I would go with Leonard and then I'm going straight to Gannon.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, those are my.
Isaiah Stanbach
I think that's that of those two, I, I'm not sure which direction Shotty would go if those were the two remaining options. Right. I think Leonard obviously is a, is a young aggressive teacher.
Josh Rodriguez
He's.
Isaiah Stanbach
He's touted as a really good teacher of the game. He connect with guys. Connected.
Patrick Nosi Walker
This demographic played the game undersized for 10 years.
Isaiah Stanbach
Absolutely right. Had a lot of success as a player. I think that he can communicate and, and demand a certain response from guys and guys would listen as well as coaching them up through it. Yeah. So he has a record of that. I like that. And I like young energy. Right. Coming from that regard.
Kyle Yeomans
Jones too. I like Durante Jones as an. As another option there. That would probably be my third name, by the way.
Isaiah Stanbach
And then Gannon. Gannon is a Ben but don't break guy. Right. So as an offensive minded. Hey, coach, you have to figure out what type of style of defense complimentary ball do you want to be played? Do you want somebody that's going to play it safe and you know, allow sustained drives and then you know, they have to kick field goals? Or do you want somebody that's going to, hey, we're going to get some turnovers, but we're also going to give up some big plays along the way as well because of our aggressive style. So I think that Shotty has to figure out what style he's okay and comfortable with. Opposite of him because those two have to kind of be. They got to be in tandem as well outside of his just offensive coordinator or offensive of play. Calling duties. He has to be comfortable with the defense defensive coordinator playing that way.
Kyle Yeomans
We got to get out of here because we are overtime.
Josh Rodriguez
You're good, but Jim Leonard is my number one.
Kyle Yeomans
That's your number one. I'm not surprised Isaiah has him as number one either because guess who he played for back in the day.
Josh Rodriguez
He's the Rex Ryan coaching tree.
Kyle Yeomans
Guess who he played for.
Josh Rodriguez
Vauch.
Kyle Yeomans
Rex Ryan.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Watch your show starts in eight minutes. Dude.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
You're good?
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Isaiah Stanbach
Okay.
Kyle Yeomans

Light-hearted but direct; “barbershop meets film room.” Panelists don’t hold back on tough evaluations but keep it accessible and fun. There’s a strong sense of camaraderie—jokes about snitching on traffic stops, missed T-shirt tosses at basketball games, and playful jabs about grade “harshness”—but when evaluating the Cowboys, the conversation is blunt about both strengths and serious offseason concerns.
The panel promises a full defensive report card next time, plus additional analysis as coordinator interviews wrap up.
