Nationwide is so much more than a great insurance company. They're one of America's largest financial services companies. Like how I'm more than just Peyton Manning. I'm also motivating Manning. When I say insurance, you say financial services. Insurance.
Josh Rodriguez
Financial services. Insurance. Financial services.
Tommy Yarish
Now when I say nationwide, you say is both. Nationwide is both.
Kyle Yeomans
Nationwide is both.
Tommy Yarish
For your insurance and financial needs, Nationwide is on your side.

Josh Rodriguez
CD Lamb. Touchdown. Jake Ferguson. Touchdown. Keeps it and he bangs it in for the touchdown.
Kyle Yeomans
And now your hosts, Isaiah Standback, Patrick Walker, Josh Rodriguez and Kyle Yeomans. Sounder beam. Oh, no. It's the first one of 2025. We're a little bit behind.
Josh Rodriguez
There it is. Go, go, Dallas Cowboys.
Kyle Yeomans
For the first time in 2025, the Dallas Cowboys have game in the National Football League. It is a 40:37 overtime win over the New York Giants. A classic of a back and forth affair. We're gonna have to talk about it quite a bit today because there's a lot to break down in this one, but the Cowboys are officially one and one. Welcome in to Talking Cowboys presented by Black Rifle coffee company live from the Star in Frisco, Texas in the SWBC state studios. We've got Patrick no see Walker. We've got Josh Rodriguez, soon to be joined by Tommy Yarish, busy doing NFL beat writer type of stuff. He's Kyle Yeoman.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Says he's late.
Kyle Yeomans
It's not his fault, but it is a victory Monday.
Josh Rodriguez
It is. Whoo.
Kyle Yeomans
And I know there's a lot of.
Josh Rodriguez
Hesitation, Charlotte, than Rick. You got Rick. Give him Rick.
Kyle Yeomans
There's a lot of hesitation amongst Cowboys fans and for good reason. It was an ugly win, but it was a win nonetheless. And there's no such thing as really an ugly win in the NFL Wins.
Josh Rodriguez
No, not doing that.
Kyle Yeomans
It's like Brian Kelly. Did you see his rant on Saturday after the LSU win? There was a reporter that was like, can you tell me about the offense? He's like, are you kidding me? It's like you're spoiled. You're spoiled if you think that this is you're winning in the sec. It's the same thing. So you're winning in the NFL. You got it done.
Josh Rodriguez
Just like I was gross though, kind of upset with Kirby after, you know, his press conference because he was like, oh, they deserve to win the game. Hey, Kirby. I love you. You shut your mouth. You shut.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You shut your mouth when he's talking to me.
Josh Rodriguez
You are. You take your W, you get on the bus, and you get the hell out of there. That's exact Dallas. Exactly.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Got a big W on the board. It feels good, but lots to discuss. You can't feel 100% confident about this team, but at the end of the day, you get the dub.
Kyle Yeomans
40 to 37. It was back and forth. The fourth quarter was just wild.
Josh Rodriguez
Gave me my 40 burger.
Kyle Yeomans
They gave you the 40 burger. I've had this for over a year. I've heard I'm wearing a whataburger shirt for our audio listeners. That's like neon with, like, a bunch of, like, whataburger logos, right? I've been wearing. I've been wanting to wear this shirt after a 40 burger for a year. It's been 654 days. The last time they had 40 on the board was when I called the game against Seattle. Like Thursday night football in 2023. That's the last 40 burger they've had.
Patrick Nosi Walker
That's craz.
Kyle Yeomans
Long time.
Patrick Nosi Walker
That's too long.
Josh Rodriguez
I.
Kyle Yeomans
That is a long time.
Josh Rodriguez
We are so back.
Kyle Yeomans
We are back.
Josh Rodriguez
We are back.
Kyle Yeomans
Super back.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I. I don't know.
Josh Rodriguez
40.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I don't know about that. I don't know about that.
Josh Rodriguez
We're back to the 40.
Patrick Nosi Walker
We're back to 40s.
Josh Rodriguez
That's what we're saying. We're back to the 40 burger.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But if the defense was also not.
Josh Rodriguez
Back to 40s, the defense was almost back to a 40. We'll get to that. Let's ride the high first.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Let's give you one of these.
Kyle Yeomans
So takeaways, biggest takeaways, Pat, from being in the building home opener. Oh, and then that fourth quarter in the craziness that happened.
Josh Rodriguez
Well, let's. Let's start with the. Let's start with the good, go to the bad, and then in. Back on the good. Let's start with that sandwich, right? First of all, the resiliency of Dak Prescott in this offense, the absolute lethality of Brandon Butter Aubrey, to have a kicker of that caliber on this team is. It just feels so right and so cosmically justified when you as Cowboys analysts, as Cowboys fans out there in the. In the Cowboys universe, you know what it was pre Dan Bailey. You know what it was post Dan Bailey, even at the back end of Dan when he got, you know, the yips and he couldn't recover from that. Right. So to. We don't talk about those two. Yeah, we don't talk about that. We don't talk about Bruno. Okay. But when you talk about going through those types of stretches of time at that position and then you come across Brandon Aubrey, who, oh, by the way, you know, used to be a soccer player, not a football player. And oh, by the way, you had to find him in the ufl, USFL at that time. You talk about the ability of this front office to scout Will McLay and his team to find not only Kavonte Turpin, but a guy like Brandon Aubrey, two of the best at their position.
Kyle Yeomans
And John Fossil.
Josh Rodriguez
And John Fossil, obviously arguably the two best at their positions at kick return. I don't know who would argue that at this point, but to be able to just get yourself in position, that's resiliency. To then allow Brandon Aubrey to come onto the field. Fantastic. But I do agree with Brian Schottenheimer as well when he said the team did a lot of dumb beep out there against the Giants. Yeah, they did like maybe letting Russell Wilson throw for almost 500 yards.
Kyle Yeomans
They let Russ cook.
Josh Rodriguez
They let him cook.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
And often on a similar or same play. Yeah. Maybe adjust. Yeah, maybe you should adjust.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Maybe get out of zone defense the entire game since. And this is something that what's an Alan Z. Brought up. The Dallas Cowboys.com podcast said all week that Russell Wilson torches red the the zone defense. Why would we scheme it up that way? Why would we go zone all day long against Russell Wilson after the first quarter, after the second quarter, the first half where he's absolutely torching you. I. I mean, it's rough and granted, you know, and I was talking about this during the game, is that between the 20s they had a plan to attack you.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah. And affect.
Patrick Nosi Walker
The unfortunate thing for the Giants is that Russell Wilson can't throw 50 yard balls when they're at the 2020, you know, so it is. It was a pain to see them between the 20s, but once they got within 20, Dallas sort of was able to put a chokehold on him for a while. And then in the second half, they started getting rid of the flags and they were being a little more. Obviously just the huge plays killed us and our secondary was really missing. Duron Bland.
Josh Rodriguez
You know, one reason I love you, Josh.
Patrick Nosi Walker
What's that?
Josh Rodriguez
Another is the fact that your beard is always magnificently crafted is because you brought up the fact that the Cowboys played a lot of zone again, which segues me to the fact that if you're going to play a lot of zone, you know what you need to get a lot of pressure up front with just four players. Now let's circle back to a quick news and note. The Cowboys have agreed to terms with Jedavion Clowney. He is expected to be in the building as early as today to sign the deal officially.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Deal done during the game.
Josh Rodriguez
During the game. So again, if you're going to run a lot of zone, you better get a lot of pressure up front with just four. Jerry Jones saw enough.
Kyle Yeomans
I like the question post game that Jerry is like were you trying to get him out there for overtime?
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, he was like was on the horn during the game getting the deal done with Davion Clowney.
Kyle Yeomans
What what Also did the Dallas Cowboys.com a podcast. I don't know about all of them, but what did a podcast say was going to happen if they weren't going to sign him this week? It was going to happen Sunday or Monday. Yeah, it's going to happen today.
Josh Rodriguez
It's almost like talking cowboys knows how to talk.
Patrick Nosi Walker
And did you see the. The circulating figures of the deal? I don't want to report that or anything.
Josh Rodriguez
Was it. Was it around what we Was it around exactly?
Patrick Nosi Walker
We were discussing.
Kyle Yeomans
Actually haven't seen it yet.
Josh Rodriguez
So per multiple reports we're waiting to see because Jerry, when we spoke to Jerry n not only did Jerry break the news, but he also said when he was asked if it was a one year deal, he said more than one. It looks like it's actually a one, but we'll see if it's a one plus a one year void. We'll see when those.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, he did say more than one. I pointed that out on the post game.
Josh Rodriguez
I was like whoa, we'll see because the transaction has to show, you know. But I'm thinking maybe it's a two year deal but it's a one year with a one year void.
Kyle Yeomans
We'll see something like that.
Patrick Nosi Walker
What are the numbers?
Josh Rodriguez
All indications are that it's a one year deal. Nonetheless. $3.5 million with. With incentives. That pushes it to a max value of 6 million.
Kyle Yeomans
That's.
Josh Rodriguez
That's what was called it number. My base number was 3 million and you said add some incentives and that was his number. Shouts out to Stan Beck because collectively we basically wrote the contract.
Kyle Yeomans
That's pretty funny.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I love that you can think talking cowboys for everything good.
Kyle Yeomans
Everybody watching rolling their eyes like guys, shut up. We listen to you anyways.
Josh Rodriguez
Shouts out to Todd upstairs. Shouts out to Adam Upstairs. Those guys got the contract done and again, it should be finalized here today. And the Cowboys will need to make a corresponding move, by the way, just as a housekeeping point because Ryan Floy was activated to the 53.
Kyle Yeomans
So it was a full roster.
Josh Rodriguez
So it was a full roster.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Oh, so Ryan Flournoy was on. Was active.
Josh Rodriguez
Yes, he was active. If you were going to say was he on the field? I was just going to revert you back to saying he was active.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Active.
Josh Rodriguez
He was active nonetheless. Okay, we got the good, we got the bad. Cowboys offense came alive. George Pickens got involved. He got his targets. He took advantage of them, whether it be drawing defensive passing appearances, one of which led. Set up Javante Williams for his third some more. Good. Javante, I see you looked great. I see. That was awesome.
Patrick Nosi Walker
X factor, maybe average five and a.
Josh Rodriguez
Half yards per carry, 130 yards from scrimmage with a touchdown. His third rushing touchdown in two games, which already is half of the total number of rushing touchdowns. The Cowboys say, I think the running game is back.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Positive.
Kyle Yeomans
Looks like.
Josh Rodriguez
I think they're back. CD Lamb woke up in the fourth quarter. He and George Pickens, that duo was doing it. Jake Ferguson didn't have an ex a spectacular game, but he was the stabilizer when the Cowboys needed it.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, well, and I put a tweet out there too. You talked about George Pickens in the past. Interference, penalties. And while his stat line is not going to look great and it doesn't, I mean, when you look at the stat line, what was it, four receptions? No. Five receptions, 68 yards. He did have the touchdown at the end to kind of sprinkle a little salt on it.
Josh Rodriguez
All sprinkles are for winners.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, he had some sprinkles, but he opened things up. You could see the shaded coverage. You could see guys like Ferguson have success because of it. Turpin had a lot of success before having to exit the game due to injury. Those, those two guys were big time wins because of George Pickens.
Patrick Nosi Walker
George Pickens was like a first grader in history class. The way he was drawing flags all day, every day.
Josh Rodriguez
Flag.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You love to see George Pickens out there opening it up for. For everybody. Kavante Turpin had a really great game before he was injured, unfortunately. I want to hear more about that. Obviously we're all concerned about Turby. Turby. Speed, speed and hope he heals.
Josh Rodriguez
Tasmanian Terp.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Stop it, Patrick. Hey, we have one Thomas Yaris joining.
Josh Rodriguez
Looks as if talking some smelly stickers. There you go.
Tommy Yarish
Very nice.
Kyle Yeomans
We'll have that in the third segment.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Of course, it's time for smelly sticker time because we get a Cowboys dub.
Josh Rodriguez
And you know what? Really quickly, while we're talking about George Pickens, let me go ahead and throw some. Some more ice water on the narrative coming out of Pittsburgh about George Pickens before this trade took place. You know, the narrative was that George Pickens was, you know, toxic in the locker room, so forth and so on. I'm going to give you a direct quote from none other than Tyler Smith, hot off of the heels of not only this wind, but a record setting contract that he landed and agreed to and signed on Saturday. So this is definitively one of your leaders in the locker room talking about George Pickens. I asked Tyler Smith last night after the game, what was the impact of George Pickens through his eyes. And he said this, and I quote, I think George had a huge game today, and I know people only see the highlights, but if you heard what he was saying in the huddle, I think that really just speaks to who he is as a man. He was like, y' all just keep going. We gotta keep going until we make it home. Keep going. When the score wasn't going our way, when things was. When the ball wasn't moving the way we. We're supposed to, he was pushing us to keep going every single play. And I appreciate that as a man and as a brother. End quote. George Pickens, locker room guy. Welcome to Dallas.
Kyle Yeomans
I like that.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Who called him a demon?
Josh Rodriguez
I called him a demon.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Oh, he's. He is a demon.
Tommy Yarish
There was. There was somebody else that quoted. That quoted. Was quoted saying, yeah, George Pickens is a. I forgot who it was.
Josh Rodriguez
You know what, though? Every demon starts as an angel, so.
Patrick Nosi Walker
All right, fair enough. I like it.
Josh Rodriguez
George Pickens was very angel and demon all rolled into one.
Kyle Yeomans
I don't know how I feel about that. We're getting real deep here.
Tommy Yarish
I was gonna say philosophical. Welcome to Philosophical Cowboys.
Josh Rodriguez
Philosophical Cowboys. No, seriously, man. George Pickens, he's. He's not. Only initially everybody was like, not everybody, but initially. He's coming into training camp and OTAs and minicamp, and he's saying the right things. And people who were believing narrative, they're saying, oh, well, what is he. What is he supposed to say?
Kyle Yeomans
Okay, well, I thought it was big to get involved.
Josh Rodriguez
Right. But what he was saying in the huddle. There are no cameras in the huddle.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
During the game. What he was saying last night to help keep The Cowboys heads high as they were going through the adversity. He didn't know that that would make it to the public space.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
Tyler Smith brought that to the public space. That that makes you. That lets you know that there are so many times behind the scenes that George Pickens is doing and saying all the right things and being the consum. And it's authentic because he's not doing it for the camera.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Not in a performative way.
Josh Rodriguez
It's not performative at all.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
So, Tommy Yarish, it's your turn. Biggest takeaways.
Tommy Yarish
Biggest takeaways. You got a lot of stuff you'll need to figure out in the secondary. Man, this is. That was. That was rough sledding. I think you are very happy to get out of there with a win. It is much better to be one and one than it is to be zero and two. But boy, oh, boy, I mean, 450 yards from Russell Wilson and three touchdowns. I mean, he was just picking them apart with the ball. Yes. Some would say they need to let him cook.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Might have been his best game since Seattle.
Tommy Yarish
Oh, my gosh.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Like, genuine.
Tommy Yarish
Like one of the. One of his best games ever, possibly.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah. Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Ever.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah.
Tommy Yarish
I don't know if that's a career high for him. I don't think I would, but I would guess it's pretty close.
Kyle Yeomans
Okay, I'll look.
Tommy Yarish
It's knocking on the door.
Josh Rodriguez
So, you know, air yards are concerned.
Tommy Yarish
The puzzling thing for me is Matt Eberfluss has played zone coverage on all but two drop backs this year through two games. So as many games as they've played, as many snaps they've taken in man to man coverage defensively, that. That's the part that I don't understand. I think you have guys on this team, especially Trayvon Diggs, who flourish better when they play man coverage. Now, Trayvon Diggs did not have a great day yesterday either. Malik Neighbors had him beat a couple of times on some of those deep balls. But this team is, I think, better covered to play. Man. I think they got away with it in against Philadelphia because frankly, the Eagles didn't really need to throw the ball all that much. They were running the ball so well with Jalen Hurts on those quarterback scrambles. He was just getting outside the pocket. And then Zaquan Barkley did more than enough to help facilitate that. But this is going to be like. There are some plays where you see Donovan Wilson as a single high safety.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah.
Tommy Yarish
Really?
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah. That's not what that was. The big the deep ball, the neighbors at the end of regulation, right. It was Donovan Wilson was your safety.
Tommy Yarish
And the communication just didn't seem right. There were way too many blown coverages. I mean, the Cowboys are very lucky to have gotten out of this game with a victory.
Kyle Yeomans
He was two yards away from a career high.
Tommy Yarish
There you go.
Kyle Yeomans
It had to have been his career best was 452. That was in 2017 against Houston where they won 4138. And this was the highest completion percentage for Russell at any point when he's had at least 415 yards. No, I will say 73%.
Josh Rodriguez
I will say this about defense, secondary. I mean, I said it, Josh said it, Kyle said it, Tommy said it. It said. Let's, let's go to the front. Let's go to the defensive front for a second. Osa, Solomon Thomas and Kenny Clark love it. That trifecta is just. Is more than the real deal. They are going to be something special as long as they continue to remain available. And I got to give a special shout out to Kenneth Murray.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He had a great game.
Josh Rodriguez
Give a special shout out to Kenneth Murray. He did not have a great game against the Eagles. We talked about it at several points, but man, you talk about a bounce back game for Kenneth Murray.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He was the most physical defensive player that you had out there. And the fact that he stopped scatter that fourth down play, that was just clutch like throughout the game.
Kyle Yeomans
As long as he's playing downhill, Kenneth Murray will be fine.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Sanborn, I'm playing downhill. I'm excited to hear Isaiah break down Sanborn's game yesterday because that was.
Kyle Yeomans
I heard it in real time and he was not impressed.
Patrick Nosi Walker
No, no. I mean, yeah, that was rough to watch.
Kyle Yeomans
I don't want to speak for Isaiah before we go into the all 22 and he gets to kind of break it down. But he was not.
Josh Rodriguez
Let's just.
Patrick Nosi Walker
No, just on the surface level, Sanborn did not play well.
Josh Rodriguez
Again, say more. More Meristem, please. We're saying it again. More marriage. But I do want to give a special shout out to Kenneth Murray because he just, he jumped off the film yesterday. And again, just the defensive front, Jack Samboan notwithstanding, for the most part, when you talk about the, the goal to go stands and the, the hell that the Cowboys defensive front gave Russell Wilson in that Giants offense.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Solomon Thomas.
Josh Rodriguez
Solomon Thomas. Also Diggy Zoo with Kenny Clark. So a lot of promise there and a lot of good things to be taken away there. But they've got to figure out what's going on that back end. Or you better apply and take. Apply more. Start getting home on these quarterbacks. Hence, hopefully. Which is why they signed Jadevion Clowney so that he can come in and be that situational pass rusher to help get them those numbers.
Tommy Yarish
I'm glad you said the, the getting home part because, man, this, this team is really struggling and it's only two weeks into the season, so there's no reason to. Oh my God, you know, we're. The sky's falling.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But against that offensive line.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah, Clark got home, by the way.
Patrick Nosi Walker
I mean, yeah, you got two sacks.
Tommy Yarish
You got technically three because that fumble late in the game when Wilson lost the ball and it went out of bound as a sack, that counted as a team sack. Interesting. But yeah. And then James Houston, who may have been your best defensive end in terms of rushing the passer yesterday.
Josh Rodriguez
Oh, he did.
Kyle Yeomans
First drive.
Tommy Yarish
You know, I think Dante Fowler has struggled to start the year. I think Donovan as a rock who has struggled to start the year. I thought Ezraku was better yesterday than he was.
Josh Rodriguez
I was going to say against Philadelphia.
Tommy Yarish
Yeah, he got close. He got close a couple of times. But it seems like this team in through two weeks has gotten close a lot and they haven't gotten home quite as much. So yeah, like you said, you know, a Clowney can, can maybe help with that, but. And maybe it's just a time thing. You know, they need to step things up. And again, this is a team that if they're going to sack the quarterback more than often, it's going to have to come when they're rushing for. Because Matt Eberfluss is not a guy who blitzes a lot. He likes to drop everybody else back in coverage. You typically see the three linebackers out there. You have your nickel corner that'll help you on the back end. So they're going to have to get home with those front four. And yeah, Kenny Clark, I think has been as advertised what they expected him to be. Solomon Thomas has been a pleasant surprise. I think he's. He's played better than a lot of people thought that he would. And then, you know, you still got a. Also Diggy Zoo has done, you know, also. Yeah, I think he's. He's been okay. But you know, these defensive ends, I think there's still room to grow for as deep as we thought this room was. They, I think they've struggled to. To get to the passers, which is.
Josh Rodriguez
Why they signed Clowney during the game.
Patrick Nosi Walker
But you also got to Give Sam.
Tommy Yarish
Williams red phone was ringing.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You got to give Sam Williams credit for that last interception by Russell Wilson. I think him pushing that left tackle into Russell Wilson to cause that interception.
Josh Rodriguez
That was just like you have. I agree. Just like you have to give Donovan as Rocku credit for. There was one particular series later in the game where he got three consecutive pressures and two of those pressures led to Russ throwing the ball out of the back of the end zone in the red zone. So the rookie is definitely coming along as well. But again, to our point, the pressures are impacting the game. Nice. But you have to get home and start putting your hand on these quarterbacks.
Kyle Yeomans
We gotta go ahead.
Tommy Yarish
You go.
Kyle Yeomans
I was gonna say we gotta move on because we gotta take our first break. I want to leave time for some Meli stickers. Plus, I also want to talk about this offense, of course, talk about what they did and the way they were able to respond, respond in the face of everything. Because I know everybody's going to talk about the defense and the 37 points, the 500 yards, as they should, and we'll talk about it as the week goes on. But you got to give a lot of credit to Dak Prescott and the resiliency of this offense when we come back with more talking Cowboys after this.

Back to Talking Cowboys back here on Talking Cowboys. A victory Monday presented by Black Rifle Coffee Company. The Cowboys get the win 40 to 37 in overtime over the Giants. Patrick Nosi Walker. Josh Rodriguez, Tommy Yarish. I'm Kyle Yeomans with Chris Beam running everything in the back. All right, I want to flip it to the offensive side. We've talked defense, so if you haven't heard us talk about the secondary problems and all the stuff that I know everybody's going to complain about, go back and watch it in the first segment because we've talked about a lot of it already. We'll go more in depth as the the the week goes on, but let's just outline some of the numbers here for Dak Prescott. 38 of 52 passing, 361 yards, two touchdowns and an interception. But those aren't the numbers that really matter, in my opinion. How about this? Dak Prescott in the fourth quarter and overtime against the New York Giants. 15 of 20 passing, 187 total yards and a touchdown.
Patrick Nosi Walker
That sounds good.
Kyle Yeomans
Kyle did it seems when it mattered most.
Josh Rodriguez
Seems good.
Kyle Yeomans
And of course the he only had the one touchdown because they were running the ball a little bit too. I loved what we saw from the offense after struggling and even mentioned on the broadcast by Joe Davis. Shout out Joe Davis talking about how they almost taken four full quarters for the Cowboys to find the end zone from the first quarter in the second drive of the season against Philadelphia to the second quarter when they finally found the end zone for the first time in this matchup. It had been almost four full quarters since the offense had found their rhythm. Well, they end up putting up 40 points at the end of the day. Took 37 in regulation and another three in overtime. But Josh, when you look at the offense, they did what they needed to do. And every time New York had a punch Dak Prescott, the offense in general had a counterpunch.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Absolutely. And this is why you pay Dak Prescott all that darn money. Dak Prescott is. He has ice in his veins when it comes to the New York Giants. And speaking of in week two, Dak Prescott is five. And oh, in week two following a week one loss, we know this.
Kyle Yeomans
It's been 15 straight seasons since the Cowboys have started. 02.
Josh Rodriguez
Say more words like that.
Patrick Nosi Walker
More words like that. All right, fine. How about this? Dak Prescott's 14 wins versus the Giants are the most by any QB versus any opponent since he entered the NFL in 2016.
Josh Rodriguez
To quote Kylo Ren. More more.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Dak Prescott is the reason. I mean, I was talking to this with Nick Nieban after the game. Just saying like that's why. I mean, Dak Prescott did not have a great first half. It was rough. He was forcing the ball to George Pickens. Granted, a lot of those resulted in flags, which were nice. But. But it didn't seem like he was very crisp. The throws weren't getting exactly where he needed him to go. But the more the game went on, the more you needed to rely on Dak Prescott being that dude. He certainly was. He does it against the Giants. Sorry, guys. He has your number all the time. I mean, it's, it's crazy what he's been able to do against the Giants. You hope that continues. Maybe just if every other team wore Giants uniforms, like, we're going to be fine, baby. You know what I'm saying?
Tommy Yarish
Hey, hey, Roger, I got a pitch.
Kyle Yeomans
For you, but can I add to your stat, by the way, more. The 5, 0, Week 2 stat is so interesting to me because it's not just that that's a, that's a team stat as much as it is a quarterback stat. Of course you tie the records to quarterbacks, but this is just to add a little more on top of it. He's in those five games. He has a 100.6 passer rating.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yes.
Kyle Yeomans
So he's in triple digits when it comes to the passer rating there. And you want to say, well, there's probably a ton of quarterbacks that avoid going, oh, and two. No. One of three quarterbacks to have a perfect record in Week 2 games following a Week 1 loss since 2010. You're probably like, oh, it's probably because all these other quarterbacks lose in week one. They're probably not good quarterbacks.
Patrick Nosi Walker
No.
Kyle Yeomans
Quarterback since 2010, undefeated in week two following a week one loss. There's one guy named Aaron Rodgers who's six. And oh, and there's another guy named Tom Brady who was Thomas Brady. 3. And oh, in those, those games, he's pretty good. That is five.
Tommy Yarish
And do we want to keep building on these stat?
Kyle Yeomans
Keep going.
Tommy Yarish
Most consecutive wins by a starting quarterback against a single opponent since 1980.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Tommy Yarish
New number one, Dak Prescott against the New York giants 14th straight. The other two behind him that he passed was Tom Brady against the bills. He won 13 straight. Then Steve Young against the Rams from 87 to 90. 81, 13.
Josh Rodriguez
So what you're saying is Dak Prescott actually has three kids.
Tommy Yarish
You said it, not me.
Josh Rodriguez
Okay. Because the Giants should definitely his son adding to the deck Prescott. What I will say is as impressive as the resiliency was to not only put the Cowboys in position after that roller coaster ride over the majority of the first four quarters, to not only put them in position for Brandon Aubrey to come in and have one walk off to push them to overtime, but to have the resiliency to do it again in the waning seconds and the way that he did it made it that much more of a chef kiss. He did it with his legs and.
Patrick Nosi Walker
On top of that, to be able to be mobile after. And he talked about it after the game in his press conferen where he's saying like, I wasn't relying on my legs enough. I wasn't relying on my game enough as Dak Prescott being the quarterback that I am. And when that. When I started to do it last year, it got me hurt this year. Obviously, the preparation that he's had. He looks lean and mean. He says he hasn't lost any weight, that's fine. But he looks lean and mean. He looks ready to go. And seeing him be that mobile. Mobile is something you haven't seen since his injury, his devastating ankle injury. So I, I'm excited to see what Dax Prescott can do going forward, especially with more consistent offensive line play, more consistent wide receiver play, that kind of it. It bugs me that you didn't see Ryan Flournoy out there and relying on. I, I don't want to go there, but just saying. I think dad press that had a really good game after starting so terribly.
Josh Rodriguez
Listen, when you're getting and bumped around and sacked as that's Dak Prescott was doing yesterday, was not a good showing for the offensive line. It kind of flipped from what we saw against the Eagles defense versus the Eagles defensive line. Dak Prescott, I believe he was sacked three times. He was pressured a hell of a lot more. Second and nine on the other side of the field. Games on the line. What are you going to do? The pocket collapses. He wasted no time. He didn't sit there dawdling. He didn't say to himself, well, maybe they'll pick up the block. No, see green, take green, 14 yard gain. Slide to avoid the unnecessary contact.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
And then let Brandon Aubrey come in and do the rest.
Patrick Nosi Walker
That's a pro.
Josh Rodriguez
Any new if you're getting Mississippi state deck in 2025? Oh, yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
I'm. Yeah, I'm all here for it. I want 2023, Dak and I think we've seen it through two games. I don't know how you could be critical of what he has done to this point. I mean, I know you lost in a tight game in Week 1 against the super bowl reigning champs. I get it. That was a game Dallas and we looked back on it plenty. Dallas should have won that game. And Dak put them in position multiple times to win that game.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He was the best player on the field.
Kyle Yeomans
I Don't know how you could be critical of what he's done through two weeks. Be critical of the playoff stuff as much as you can. We're in September. We got a long way to go. And in order to get to that point again and for him to have another crack at it, he needs to be good in September and October and November and December and just go down the calendar. I. Through two weeks, he looks like 20, 23, Dak, and I'm here for it. And I want to give him the credit where credit is due, because they needed him in every single moment of that game against the Giants on Sunday. And yes, it was against the Giants. That's. It's. It's tough to win in the National Football League. And like I said going into the conversation was on Friday. I said, I expect it to be a close game in the first half, and I expect Dallas to pull away. They tried to pull away. The defense didn't let him. The Dallas defense didn't let him pull away, but the offense did what they could to pull away. I've been nothing but impressed with the film, nothing but impressed with what he's done. Yes, he missed a couple throws yesterday, but overall he was fantastic.
Tommy Yarish
No, and he's missed a couple to start. But really, I think you're seeing, you know, Jerry Jones said last week was one of Dak Prescott's best games.
Kyle Yeomans
Absolutely.
Tommy Yarish
I would tend to agree with him. I mean, some of this was a.
Kyle Yeomans
Step down from his performance last week.
Tommy Yarish
Right.
Kyle Yeomans
And I think it was early on.
Patrick Nosi Walker
And then it became.
Tommy Yarish
And still some of the throws that he's been able to make, you know, I think last week, the one that I keep seeing the clip of, and I just keep thinking, wow, was the throw that he fit into Schoonmaker over two guys, and he's just draped in coverage. Schoonmaker drops it, but it's. It's story of the season so far. But, you know, it's. It's right on his hands. It's just perfect. And then yesterday, the over the shoulder to CD on the crossing route, where he puts it over two people, too.
Josh Rodriguez
And the touchdown to Turpin right through a key.
Tommy Yarish
Yeah. And that was a free play, so I think you can. You can afford to take a shot like that.
Kyle Yeomans
It was still fun, though.
Tommy Yarish
No, it was still fun. Yeah. No, I'm just saying, you know, the seam passes to Jake Ferguson, I thought, came back a little bit yesterday, and some of them were pretty big to set up a couple of those field goals. And get him into range. I think one of them was the one to set Aubrey up for the game tying field goal, if I remember correctly. I may not. I have a terrible memory. But as far as the first half goes, you want to know why they struggled? Here's their first couple of drives. Three and out. Three and out. Field goal. Touchdown. And a half. And then that end of half was just a disaster. I mean, that was.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, that was.
Tommy Yarish
That was very poorly handled. And they just, they just. They want that one back for sure.
Kyle Yeomans
They got it back with 25 seconds left. They did get figured it out.
Tommy Yarish
But yeah, fourth quarter overtime. Dak Prescott was very good.
Patrick Nosi Walker
You gotta wonder if he likes Ferg, you know what I'm saying? Like the throws, the seam throws that he throws. I feel like Jake must feel like he's in a Marvel movie.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Because at every time he catches the ball, he's like. He's right behind me.
Josh Rodriguez
Yeah.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Like he's about to get smashed. Dude.
Josh Rodriguez
All jokes aside, that's the life of the tight end operating in the scene.
Tommy Yarish
And he knows it too.
Kyle Yeomans
This is also where I wish I could like curse on the air because he is a bad.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He's a bad.
Kyle Yeomans
He is a big biscuit. Yeah, he is a tough dude. And I wouldn't use the word dude there. Jake Ferguson. I mean, and it wasn't even just the seam over the middle where he's taking a hit. I mean, it was where he had the ball in space and then there were tacklers coming your way and he turns on and takes on a defender and shoulders into him. He's a tough dude.
Josh Rodriguez
And circling back to Dak really quickly, like we talked about, it wasn't a better game initially for him versus the game he had in Philadelphia. The game he had in Philadelphia was outstanding. If not for the drops on the other end of those throws. Struggled in the first half that the interception kind of haunts me because slant the guys on the inside hip. Don't do that. Don't make that throw. But then what do you do? You battle through it and then you look at it. Like the touchdown throw, the Turpin keyhole, that touchdown throw to George Pickens, only George Pickens had a shot at that.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, that was a perfect ball.
Josh Rodriguez
Perfect went away and George Pickens did the rest. For George Pickens first touchdown, it's almost.
Kyle Yeomans
The same play that Jalen Tolbert scored on and then Week 5 win against Pittsburgh last year. Right at the goal line late in the game scenario, same sort of deal. It was right there and the ball crossed the goal line for Pickens and then Pickens able to secure it immediately and then just fall forward, which was, or I guess technically backwards to the one yard line. But because the ball was placed so perfectly, it's a touchdown and it's really impressive.
Josh Rodriguez
Perfect ones like he. Like Tommy said, the one, the schoolmaker. There's another one that comes to mind late in the game. Jalen Tolbert. The one that Jalen Tobert dropped. It's perfectly outside for the first down conversion. It is perfect.
Tommy Yarish
Yeah, it's been tough.
Josh Rodriguez
He doesn't come up with it.
Kyle Yeomans
I think might be a conversation gentleman.
Josh Rodriguez
It will be. But to said I didn't want to go there, man. We're not going to go there yet. But. But to Tobert's credit and also to Dax credit. Because one thing that Dak has done in his leadership, for better or for worse, is he shows his guys that he still believes in them even after they make a mistake.
Kyle Yeomans
True.
Josh Rodriguez
Okay, so you get that critical drop from Tobert that I just mentioned on a perfect ball on a situation where you gotta have it. And what happens next play, you come right back to Tobert, the middle and you get the conversion. And he lays out and he gets the ball.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, he did a good job.
Josh Rodriguez
So shouts out to Tolbert for, you know, cleaning that up. But Dax game yesterday initially was just not great. But as it went on and the pressure mounted more and more and more by job, by job, he made sure that he helped. Alongside Brandon Aubrey, George Pickens, CD Lamb, Javonte Williams, Jake Ferguson, Dak Prescott made sure he helped will this team to a win yesterday.
Kyle Yeomans
I liked all those names you just said.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Oh, look at that.
Kyle Yeomans
We got set all the way.
Josh Rodriguez
We got some 40. We got a 40 bird burgers here.
Kyle Yeomans
All right.
Josh Rodriguez
We are so back.
Kyle Yeomans
This is Lake working her way in with a gigantic box of 40 burgers.
Josh Rodriguez
Listen.
Tommy Yarish
Oh, thank you, Lake.
Kyle Yeomans
He's so much like best burgers in the business.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Compliments of Brett.
Kyle Yeomans
Thank you, Brett.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Thank you.
Josh Rodriguez
Best burgers in the business.
Kyle Yeomans
Feel better, Brett. What a burger. Yeah, feel better. Got the wide shot.
Josh Rodriguez
We got that spicy ketchup on the way. Look at that. We need patting.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Look at that.
Tommy Yarish
You gave it to them. We're never gonna get it back.
Kyle Yeomans
I know. Yeah, right there, right there. So everybody can see it. Whataburger. 40 burgers. It is a great day. It is a victory Monday. We're going to take a break. When we come back, we're giving smelly stickers after the Cowboys 40. Count them. 40 point win, 40 to 37 over the new York Giants in overtime. We'll have more talking cowboys after this.
Josh Rodriguez
And I'm biting a burger, too.
Kyle Yeomans
Go for it.

What a burger. Burger.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, it is.
Patrick Nosi Walker
What a burger.
Tommy Yarish
That's true.
Kyle Yeomans
It's next level.
Tommy Yarish
Hey, hey, Mr. Schottenheimer. Can we get some more of these 40, 40 point outings, please? That'd be excellent. It's like maybe every week.
Patrick Nosi Walker
The official honey butter chicken biscuit of the Dallas Cowboys.
Kyle Yeomans
Soft spoiled hamburger, right?
Josh Rodriguez
Soft spoiled, all of it. This is the coolest thing. Another 40 burger against the Chicago Bears.
Tommy Yarish
Just, just so you know, watched how they play yesterday. We might need some more burgers.
Kyle Yeomans
This is really cool. The they have like one of the little number markers that's cool. For the water burger and it says official burger. The cowboys on. That's pretty.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Oh, the only burger.
Kyle Yeomans
Only burger. Sorry. That's pretty cool. That one's gonna go on my desk. All right, it's time for our smelly stickers.
Josh Rodriguez
If you're new to talking cowboys Chicken biscuit. Still a whataburger. Chicken biscuit.
Kyle Yeomans
If you're new to talking cowboys, we do smelly stickers as our helmet stickers for the season. So if you look on my camera here, this is what it looked like at the end of last year. On one side of the helmet, we will clear this. It will be completely clear just as it is on the other side of the helmet. And this is what it will look like as we go along. But each sticker is a player of the game and it is given to each player. And we can try and double up if we want to. We don't have to double up. We try not to double up as we go along. But Patrick, I'm going to let you start. Helmet stickers, smelly stickers. First one of 20. 2025. Who you got?
Josh Rodriguez
All right, first one in 2025. I'll go ahead and say since I gave Butter Aubrey so much props and so much credit in the opening segment, I'm going to let someone else give him his. His sticker. I'm going to go with Dak Prescott. So Dak Prescott gets a pair.
Kyle Yeomans
Why is that?
Josh Rodriguez
And it's because he showed the Giants his pair yesterday.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Ah, his. His fruit, if you will.
Kyle Yeomans
Pair of touchdowns.
Patrick Nosi Walker
A pair.
Josh Rodriguez
Sure.
Kyle Yeomans
That's what it was.
Josh Rodriguez
Sure.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, that's where I thought you were.
Josh Rodriguez
Sure. Dak Prescott showed the Giants his pair yesterday. However you want to spin it. Fact is, when he had to make the gutsy plays, he made the gutsy plays. He made them in the air. He made them on the ground. Dak Prescott gets my smelly sticker. First one of the 2025 season. I did it back to my chicken biscuit. Honey. Chicken biscuit.
Kyle Yeomans
Honey Butter Chicken honey butter baby.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Well, no, see, Honey butter.
Kyle Yeomans
Don't forget.
Josh Rodriguez
Never forget about the butter.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah, don't forget about the butter.
Josh Rodriguez
Never forget about the butter.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Speaking of butter, as no see alluded to.
Josh Rodriguez
Yes, sir.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Earlier on in this segment, I gotta give a smelly sticker to one Brandon Aubrey.
Kyle Yeomans
Yes, sir.
Patrick Nosi Walker
And for Brandon Aubrey, I'm choosing a pineapple with a little bud on it. Dude, he's got a little butt. He's killing it.
Josh Rodriguez
You see him?
Patrick Nosi Walker
See those cheeks?
Josh Rodriguez
Weeks, I can't unsee it.
Patrick Nosi Walker
He's got a little butt on.
Josh Rodriguez
I can't see.
Patrick Nosi Walker
And what does he also got on? He's got a. He's got something on his back. Like a backpack. Yeah, that's the team that's on Butter Aubrey not only hitting a 60 plus yarder, but hitting the game winning field goal in overtime. Shouts to Brandon Butter. Aubrey. I had to do like a poll.
Kyle Yeomans
That was nice.
Tommy Yarish
That was good.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah. I can't believe we've had pears. Ladies and gentlemen, the first two stickers.
Josh Rodriguez
My name is Rodriguez.
Tommy Yarish
I apologize for not having one as emphatic. As emphatic. That's a good word.
Kyle Yeomans
Controversial.
Tommy Yarish
Cancelable. But I've got another pineapple here. This one has glasses this time instead of.
Josh Rodriguez
Are you giving yourself the smelly sticker or what's that? Are you giving yourself the smelly sticker?
Tommy Yarish
No, I didn't do anything.
Josh Rodriguez
Pineapple has glasses.
Tommy Yarish
This. This pineapple is going to go to George Pickens because according to my calculations, the man has more yards in pass interference penalties against him than he does receiving yards. And that is a good thing. But down the stretch, give him credit. Absolutely. Down the stretch. George Pickens was phenomenal. Set up the field goal to Aubrey to win it in overtime. Scored his first touchdown and I must have it play. With less than a minute to go in the fourth quarter, George Pickens came through and the Cowboys needed it most. That's why you make that trade.
Kyle Yeomans
Oh, I love it. I love it. And he needs all the credit because like we talked about earlier, he is making an impact whether the stats are showing up or not. He certainly is. All right, I've got a cupcake, gentlemen. A cupcake. Because that's what we thought this game was going to be, but it was definitely not. But you know why? I've got a cupcake.
Josh Rodriguez
Why do you have a cupcake, Kyle?
Kyle Yeomans
Because there's a little icing on top.
Josh Rodriguez
Okay.
Kyle Yeomans
This was a sweet win.
Josh Rodriguez
It was.
Kyle Yeomans
This was a fun one. 40 to 30 seconds. Cowboys get it done. You win against the divisional foe, you open up the season at home. You get it done and come from behind. Fashion. You showed resiliency. You showed execution. You showed that you have some superstars that are on this football team. All of that is sweet. But you know what the icing on top is?
Josh Rodriguez
What's that?
Kyle Yeomans
This was the first win in the NFL head coaching career for Brian Shot.
Josh Rodriguez
Yes, it was.
Kyle Yeomans
You could see the emotion yesterday in the post game press conference. You could see it in the post game celebration. The video is on Dallas Cowboys.com right now. Yeah, you haven't seen it yet. Go check it out. You could tell this meant a little bit of something extra. It was a fun win already. And it could have been anybody coaching the team, but it wasn't. It was Brian Schottenheimer. Congratulations. Shotty icing on top of the sweet cake of a first win in 2025. You get my smelly sticker, bud.
Josh Rodriguez
I love it.
Kyle Yeomans
And you called the offense to 40 points, which means we get whataburger.
Josh Rodriguez
So listen, I'm going to say this after seeing the. The locker room footage. It would be a massive missed opportunity if you guys don't get la Knight in into this building.
Patrick Nosi Walker
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
With some inspirational speaking. Yeah.
Kyle Yeomans
Oh, is that what he does?
Josh Rodriguez
Oh, that's. That's the thing. If, you know, you know, even Jerry.
Tommy Yarish
Was getting into it too.
Josh Rodriguez
I was like, you know, you know, there you go.
Tommy Yarish
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
No, everybody knows knows who game this is.
Tommy Yarish
Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
D A K. Yeah.
Tommy Yarish
I'll add one more thing here quickly. Kyle. You, obviously it's. You have to be happy for Brian Schottheimer. This is a guy who's waited almost three decades for his chance and it might have felt even longer than that this week. He had a really, really long week in his personal life. His mom fell in the airport on Friday so she wasn't able to come to the game. And then both of his dogs got bitten by snakes. So prayers up to. To Ms. Pat Schottenheimer and his two dogs. Obviously. Hope they're okay, but glad that they got to that he got to end the week on a little bit of a high note.
Kyle Yeomans
A little bit high note. Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
But the devil.
Kyle Yeomans
Yeah. Yeah.
Josh Rodriguez
Can't keep that. Can't keep the Schottenheimer family down.
Tommy Yarish
No, no, you can't.
Kyle Yeomans
Not for long. Cowboys were down quite a bit, but they found their way back into it. They won't at 40:37. We're going to break it down throughout the week here on talking cowboys starting tomorrow, talking Tuesdays. Get your phone calls, your questions lined up starting tomorrow morning. You can give us a call. 888-855-2297. Then we move on to the preview of the Chicago Bears matchup in week three starting on Wednesday, Thursday, then a say it with your chest Friday as we continue on a full week of talking cowboys as The Cowboys are 1 and 1 after their win over the Giants. That does it for us here on talking cowboys for Chris Beam in the back, Tommy Yaris, Josh Rodriguez, Patrick no see Walker. I'm Kyle Yeoman saying thank you whataburger. Thank you, Brian Schottenheimer for a 40 burger. The Cowboys win it. We'll see you tomorrow with more talking cowboys from the star in Frisco. This has been a production of Dallas Cowboys.com and the Dallas Cowboys Football Club.

Podcast: Talkin’ Cowboys
Date: September 15, 2025
Dallas Cowboys 40, New York Giants 37 (OT) — Reaction & Analysis
This episode of Talkin’ Cowboys, hosted by Kyle Yeomans, Patrick “No C” Walker, Josh Rodriguez, and Tommy Yarish, recaps the Dallas Cowboys’ thrilling 40-37 overtime win over the New York Giants—marking their first victory and a 40-point "burger" in 654 days. The crew debates the messy but resilient performance, highlights key offensive and defensive moments, discusses standout individual contributors (notably Dak Prescott, George Pickens, and kicker "Butter" Brandon Aubrey), and details the instant-impact signing of pass rusher Jadeveon Clowney. They also laugh about post-victory Whataburgers and hand out their trusty smelly stickers.
A balanced mixture of celebratory banter and critical analysis, the hosts keep the discussion lively with running jokes (“smelly stickers,” “we’re back to the 40 burger!”), pointed stats, and direct messaging to the fans about not overreacting to early-season wobbles or “ugly” wins. There’s a strong emphasis on team resilience, leadership culture, and the vision for growth as the season unfolds.
