B
Stand back. Oh, hello, guys.
D
I like Good morning football fame.
A
You know, he's wearing Good morning football.
C
Isaiah, what shirt we wearing today?
B
As you guys see, I am back in the building and I am representing my people. My fan.
C
Yeah.
B
Talking cowboy shirt. And we always tell you guys, our fan, Mali, that if you guys send us some gear, we will rock it proudly. We've proven it time and again, time and time again. And as of my return today, the first thing I grabbed because it was a little chilly outside.
A
Yeah, it was.
B
Finally, finally, finally I can crack my window. Fall has come back exactly to Dallas. I put on my talking cowboy shirt that was gifted to us by one of our great fans. So I. I appreciate it. I'm rocking it proudly.
D
Yes.
B
Keeping me nice and warm to like a tiger.
D
I believe that was nice on you, sir.
A
I believe that was Cole that. That got those shirts, Cole. And I believe we may have some hoodies on the way. Somebody heard your challenge initially.
D
Let's absolutely go. I believe if it's for this type of weather. Done.
A
I know, yeah. 50° outside.
B
Mr. Rodriguez is all about the hoodies.
C
Oh, yeah. It's so good outside, dude.
D
Got to be safe.
B
Always.
C
Isaiah.
A
What you're looking at?
B
Film. I'm watching film. Yeah, of course. Hoodie season.
A
Yeah, it is hoodie season. Yes, it is.
B
You like hoods, don't you?
D
Absolutely.
B
Told you. There it is. I didn't tell any lies.
A
You're terrible. You're terrible. All right, we've got plenty to get to today. We're going to Have QB vision. Coming up in the next segment.
D
Care who knows it.
B
Anything wrong with it.
A
We're going to talk about how Dallas could possibly rebound on the offensive side of the football day.
C
Patrick.
B
Hello, Patrick.
A
It's time for some news and notes.
C
It is time for some notes. There is. Well, let's start with. Well, Isaiah wasn't here for the bad. So I gotta, I gotta reiterate the bad.
B
What did I miss?
C
Your safety position is in shambles.
B
We lost another one.
A
Yeah.
C
Elijah Clark is out for a couple of weeks.
B
Oh, so no Elijah, no Donovan Wilson. Yep. No Wanye Thomas.
A
Malik Hooker.
B
Malik Hooker.
C
We'll get to that.
B
So we're missing four safeties. That's not that bad. We still have.
C
Yeah, one.
B
Actually, you know what? I take that back. We have two.
C
You have one on the other.
D
Who's the other?
B
I consider Ready Stewart a safety.
A
Okay.
D
Ready. Stewart's playing.
B
Ready. You don't have a choice now. Well, the thing is. Check me out before right. Watching, watching the games. Ready Stewart. I don't consider him to be a good cover corner. Yeah, I consider him to be a good cover safety though.
C
And he's physical.
B
And he's physical.
D
He's a good run stuffer as well.
B
He's. As a cornerback. This is just my, my, my perspective. As a cornerback he's a eh. Cover guy. But as a corner he's a. Ooh, hitter. He come up and hit you now. Right. He's a headhunter. As a safety he remains a o. Hitter and then he becomes a pretty good cover guy because you don't expect your safeties to be cover guys. Everybody's not Darren Woodson. Okay.
D
So either way, he's ready.
B
He's ready. And he's a steward of those dog hunting gifts you tried. Almost got it.
A
That was a reach close reach close the lady.
B
I changed one letter, Buddy. There's a Mr. Fan change one letter reach no. So kudos. Kudos to that. So you still have Marquis Bell and Rady Stewart.
C
You have Marquis Bell. It's ready. Stewart, until further notice is actually a cornerback. But I see what you're saying.
B
What are you. What do you finish the game?
A
This might be. I know.
C
That's why I said until further notice. I mean you do have Julius Wood on the practice squad. But. And I said this, I wrote a piece on the.com.
B
Sorry, I was.
C
Come on, come on. I wrote a piece on the.com yesterday with detailing the safety issue as far as depth and injuries, but also four free agent options that I will be willing to peek at and some honorable mentions that I would not give a look at. Go.
B
When do you expect all four of these injured safeties to return?
C
So Malik Hooker, he qualifies for 21 day practice window to open this week.
B
21.
C
It's not going to happen. Her Schottenheimer. Okay. So he needs more time to rehab that injured toe.
B
Okay.
C
Big toe, not a great sign. You know. So we'll see if he's ready after the buy. Marquis Bell healthy one year Thomas TBD he's dealing with migraines and they're still trying to figure out what treatment works for him. Now keep in mind I had this conversation with Wang Ye and I was wondering if this was something that he's dealt with most of his life and he said no, these migraines are brand new to him. That sucks. So that means for from his capacity, he doesn't know how to treat them at all. He doesn't know how he, you know what the upswing looks like when he's completely out of the woods versus when another one is going to hit. So he's been battling that and they've been trying several different types of treatment to the point where they have him practicing in like specialized goggles.
A
So.
C
Yeah. So because the light sensitivity. So they're, they're trying but we don't know because he doesn't know and they don't know they have to.
A
When they pop up like that, it's different for everybody.
B
Right.
A
Right. And I've had family members deal with them and they're not trying to play NFL football games in front of the bright lights in the crowd and hit.
D
Guns and all of that.
A
Yes. Like all of that just seems like it would ramp it up significantly. And if you don't know how to treat it yet, which there's ways to treat it.
B
Caffeine maybe.
A
Yeah. I mean there's one that's one way.
D
But if it's a new developing thing that he just figured out, he does going to take some trial.
A
What's going to make figure out what's going to make the most effective.
C
And that's what they mean. Yeah. Going down the list of, of treatments to figure out what works for one gay Thomas. So. So we will see. He is very much TBD. And as we have this conversation, 50, 50 every single week until he's 100% ready.
B
It's frustrating for him.
C
Yeah.
B
Because walking around you're healthy. Right. And you feel like you can contribute but then you have these spurs where it's just like you just can't function. I can only imagine his frustration.
C
Yeah. And he is quite that, you know, just looking at him, he's. He's trying to remain upbeat and good spirited. But you can see the frustration and you can see him trying to fight, being defeated by it. So and so and hopefully he gets through that soon. But he's. We don't know like he could very well play this week, but we just, we just don't.
B
And I hope that his teammates are being understanding. I'm sure I really. I'm sure they are too. I'm. We can assume that. Right. I just hope that they are because the reason why I bring that up because injuries like that. Right. Or whatever you want to call them, ailments, you can't see them. Right. So like when your teammates see you with a dislocated shoulder or they see you with on crunch crutches or something.
C
Okay.
B
Okay. Yeah. He's. He's injured. Right. He can't go. Right. But then when you have things like that where there's like kind of judgment because they're calling call a spade a spade. We've all been through sports and we've all seen people who have been injured. Right.
D
It's not like he's. This defense is playing terribly.
B
You know, so you have a headache, you give him the benefit of the doubt. And I'm giving him all the benefit of the doubt because I believe that he's a true competitor. Yeah. But there are always going to be people who look at you and be like also.
C
You also have to keep in mind the context of the whole situation. One year Thomas and is someone who climbed the ranks from the undrafted through the practice squad. His entire rookie season he scratched and clawed to get reps. The last thing he last. The last thing he wants to do is to say it doesn't matter how anyone feels about how the defense is being coordinated or how the unit is playing as a whole. 1.
B
Yay.
C
Thomas wants reps. And I'll add one more thing to it. He's also on a one year deal right now.
B
Yeah.
C
He's not like Marquis Bell did not. He did not get the re up that Marquis Bell did. He got a one year re up. He needs these games.
B
Anyone. Right.
C
For anyone that's, you know would even remotely accuse 1G of take. He's not taking days off, reps off. He needs every single one. So that's why he's so frustrated but so TBD on him. Possibly after the buy from Elite hooker TBD on Donovan Wilson. Elbow, shoulder injury. We have to look at the practice reports beginning tomorrow, I believe because it's Monday Night Football. So they'll be back on the practice field today. Yeah, but I don't know that they're required to submit a practice report until tomorrow. I think it's tomorrow. So we won't know where he's training until tomorrow.
B
Just to add on to that. Right. Kind of put that, put a ball on this. Imagine working 20 plus years of your life for one goal, for one opportunity, right? You put Eminem on it. Just.
C
I was just thinking just to have spaghetti.
B
Dude, seriously, these week, 20 plus years, right. You scratch, you've called everything that you just said, climbing the ranks, going through small school, all that stuff just to get to the opportunity where guys have gotten injured. Yeah. And now it's you next man up.
D
And you are that man.
B
You're that man. And then a migraine takes you out. The amount of frustration like I feel for him and I hope that they can find a solution sooner than later. But put it in perspective for people at home understanding how frustrating this could be. You literally work your life 20 plus years, however old he is for this one chance and it's finally here, things move out the way it works out so that you're that guy. And then for breaking migraine, you have.
D
This mysterious thing that you've never experienced before.
B
Physically, I'm fine. Like my extremities are all good.
C
I can my guaranteed starter for at least four games when Malik went to IR and just shut down.
B
And that's not just for the Cowboys. I know he plays in under contract for the Cowboys. This is unnoticed for the other 31 teams.
A
Yeah.
B
So like I really feel for him.
C
That sucks, man. So right now, again, you got Marquis Bell and you have ready that you can try it. Safety, you have Julius Wood, who is a safety. He's on the practice squad. You have Zion Childress whom you can try at safety. Because I mean, I get it. I'm saying Julius Wood though. But this also tells you. But even with Julius Wood, he was a standout in his first training camp with the Cowboys. Undrafted guy in 2024. The Cowboys signed following the draft. He stood out and then they waved him with the numbers cut down playing the numbers game and the Tennessee Titans claimed him. He spent that rookie season with the Titans and now he's back with the Cowboys on the practice squad. Strong potential on Julius Wood. But as I said in the article, if you're depending on Julius Wood, who has zero starts and only two combined tackles and no other stats on his NFL line, you're in a bad way if you're. You're in a real bad way. So there are some free agents out there that I'm willing to look at. Go check it out on dot com.
A
There are a couple people in the chat that are asking about Zion Childress. He's a cornerback.
C
He's a corner.
A
Yeah, he's not going to play safety.
D
And I just want to just tell that they feel really highly about ready Stewart. I mean, just claiming him for one thing and then what you've seen from him in spurts. Right.
B
I love him at safety. Even when he was playing corner, I'll say he's a safety.
A
I do remember having that conversation. And you at one point said, if you're going to play him at corner, play him at the nickel because that's where he's at his best.
B
In the box.
A
In the box. And he's able to play downhill when you put him in space, especially whenever it's in the underneath and in the flats. That's when things get a little bit dicey with Stewart. You push him back, you give him room to work and then all of a sudden he's got a little bit more toward his skill set. And I think we've seen maybe that same thought process.
B
He made some hits last week too. Yeah, he likes him as we.
A
He's. He's a hitter. He'll come down and hit you. Even when he was playing corner, which is what you need, didn't have a whole lot of lead up time to make a hit, but he would still can you get down.
B
That's the only.
A
Be physical.
B
That's the only problem that I don't say problem, but that's the only thing that I see as a potential problem for the Cowboys based upon their current availability. Julius will hit her. Marquis Bell hitter ready Stewart hitter. These are all strong safety.
C
Where's your cover guy?
B
These guys are not free. They're not true free safeties. Now that you can ask them to play free safety, but that's not their true position based upon their skill set. All three of those guys that you have available to you are true strong safety.
A
How would you combat that from a scheme standpoint? Because if you're talking single high coverage and you're having the, the over the top guy, you don't really have that right now. How do you try and combat that? If you're Matt Eber flu and you look at that defensive Side with what.
B
You have available to you, you don't have. There's nothing that you can truly put out there.
A
That's. That's my point.
C
That's why you read the article on the.com and you go and you get one of these because, I mean, we could say the name just Simmons is out there just waiting for.
A
A lot of people have started throwing.
C
That name just waiting for a call. He's one Marcus Mays out there just waiting for a call. Now are will either of these guys, do you need to look at either of these guys as, you know, season changers? No, but these turn solutions. Yeah, but when you talk about stabilizing the safety position, guys who have skins on the wall.
B
Okay, so ask you this. If you were to go sign one of those guys, are you signing them just for temporary service?
C
I'm signing them for the remainder of the year.
B
Okay, so when all your other guys get healthy, barring. So if those guys all get healthy, then what do you do?
C
Hot hand. Okay. Hot hand.
B
777 straight sevens.
C
Hot hand. I mean, think about it, Think about it from this capacity, right?
B
We don't gamble here.
C
Let's say, let's say we talk about. Let's keep it to free. Okay, so Malik is down. Before Malik went down, wasn't playing great. A part of that is due to the fact that he started dealing with the toe issue. But you know, you don't know when he comes back, how soon it'd be before he gets back to peak Malik or if he gets back to peak Malik this season.
D
So if to be fair, like you said, it wasn't playing great before the injury.
C
That's what I'm saying.
D
And so part of that was the miscommunications on defense throughout the first half of the season.
C
All of that's true. And all of that matters now. When you talk about bringing in a guy, let's say Justin Simmons, because he's one of the ones that I named and we're talking about the free safety position. If Justin Simmons comes in and he's playing good football for you and Malik Hooker is ready, fine, 100% for depth, for nothing else. Depth and leadership. You activate Malik to the active roster, but you seriously look at it from a competitive standpoint and you say, is Justin Simmons now in the building? Is he playing good football for us over these first one or two games that he's with us, just hypothetically speaking. And if he is, then you let him continue. There's no reason to not because there's not this, you know, okay, Duron Bland equation. All right, so Duron Bland goes down with injury and the next guy up. And the next guy up is, he's playing well. Okay, he's playing well, but he's still not Daron Bland, Brock Hoffman, he was playing well. But we sat here and said when the conversation turned to fans are asking, well, should we put Cooper BB back in? Well, now you see why you should put Cooper Bibi back in. So that's what I mean is at the safety position, there's not that discussion to be had as far as it was. You sign a guy like Justin Simmons and he's coming in, he's playing well, you can honestly look at a guy like Malik Hooker and say, you are damn good depth until he starts playing poorly if he does. And then, you know, then we have that conversation.
A
You don't have to rush those guys.
C
That's what I mean. You don't.
D
Especially if you're talking about competing every year.
C
You don't have a marquee guy that you have to be like, should I?
A
Whoever wants to sign as a safety here in Dallas wouldn't only have an opportunity to stick for this year. And I think that's kind of what Isaiah, you're leading to. You have a chance to stick for a good amount of time. Remember, Malik Hooker was a late signing in the process himself. He was a training camp signee off of the free agent market. That. That didn't happen. Thinking, oh, Malik Hooker's going to be here for the next five seasons.
B
He's the guy.
A
It was. It was, hey, here's a 12 year deal. And then he continued to stick around from one defensive coordinator to the next to defensive coordinator to the next. And now you've got a similar situation for whoever comes in off the street because Donovan Wilson hasn't played well. Malik Cooker hasn't played well. Wanye Thomas stepped up, but he's been hurt.
C
He's tbd.
A
Exactly what are you competing against right now?
D
And I think you had the indicator in there. You're saying that he sort of stuck around.
B
Yeah.
D
It's like you don't need guys that stick around positions of need like that. You need a guy that absolutely dominates that spot.
B
Yeah.
A
All right, we're going to take our first break. When we come back, we've got QB vision on the other side of the break as we flip our page to the Arizona Cardinals defense and the Dallas Cowboys offense. How do they rebound against this Cardinals defense and are there some weapons on their side of the ball. When we come back with more talking Cowboys after this.
B
I'm home. Hey, mom, before you ask, I've done my homework and the dishwasher's unloaded.
C
Nice. Hey, can you.
A
Hey, hon. Yes, I've got the finale ready to play.

Back to Talking Cowboys. Back here on Talking Cowboys. This portion of the show is brought to you by Invisalign. The official smile of the Dallas Cowboys with Patrick no see Walker.
C
Yes, sir.
A
Josh Rodriguez. Chris Beam in the back. I'm Kyle Yeomans. We've got Isaiah Stambach about to give us a little bit of vision in a moment. Just going back to that original conversation. Before we get into it, though, you.
D
Had a question Yeah, I mean, I don't know. I feel like there hasn't been a contingent of fans that are really supportive of Zion Childress. Like, if you're supporting Zion Childress, please let us know in the chat. I feel like we're not seeing that very often, but if you really want him to play, let us know. We can try and make something happen, right?
C
Why. Why be coy? Why be coy about it?
A
This is in reference to what is already happening in the chat, just so you guys know. But you know what's happening now? It's a little bit of some wide 80. Wide 80. It's time for QB Vision with Isaiah.
B
Stand back. All right, guys, here we go. It's week nine Dallas Cowboys offense versus the Arizona Cardinals defense. They are coming off a buy, so they've had an opportunity to go review the film. What do they do well? What don't they do well? What contributors need to change. But more importantly, what does Dallas do well that they need to try to take away? Whoa. I don't know. Arizona.
D
That'll be it for doggy cow.
B
I lost my ears. Can you guys still hear me? Good. All right. Arizona is a two high safety team. They are also a 34 team. A 34 team that likes to have their big fellas up front. I, E. Kas Campbell. You guys know that guy?
A
Yeah, he's.
C
I'm good still.
B
Dalvin, Tomlinson, you guys know that. Yep, pretty good. They got a couple big guys up front. Could have had them, but they really lean on their linebackers and their safeties to be the playmakers. These guys, this is a team that runs ahead. I told you guys last week about the Denver Broncos defense, and some people said that we were glazing.
D
I believe the term was glazing.
C
Glazing.
B
Because we were keeping it 100. About the Broncos defense, Right? Things that make you go, okay, so this is not the Broncos defense. These guys do not pass rush very well.
A
No, at all.
B
The matter of fact, they're bottom five in the league in terms of pass rush. They're also top five in terms of split safeties. These guys play too high shell as much as possible. They want to have three down linemen, four linebackers on the field at all times. If you decide that you want to pass the ball, these guys will put two down linemen. I repeat, two down linemen, five guys at the. At this. Sorry. Four guys at the second level. And they like to put. How many guys in back? Five guys in the back. Okay. So that is how they get to their quote unquote dime package, they'll take a couple linemen out and they'll put just two guys at the front line. What do they do? Well, they communicate very well in their secondary.
A
They really be nice.
B
It is nice to watch. It's kind of. It's kind of pretty to watch, actually, watching guys run routes across the zones because that's what they run. I think they the second most zoned team in the league. Even more than that. Oh, sorry. I don't want to say that. Oh, hey, hey.
D
That's a bad word on this show, buddy.
B
Sorry. Wow. But the second most zone ran by this team in the league, they pass off coverage very well. If you're running a route across their formation, trying to get to the gaps in their. In their zone coverage, they communicate very well. Hey, Josh, over, over, over. And Josh is like, got it right. So I don't have to follow you into the other zone. I don't have to feel like I'm the guy that's responsible because I have full confidence that, Josh, you're going to do your job. And if that guy keeps. Keeps going, what are you going to say to Pat? Get that guy. Yeah, that guy over there.
C
Got him.
B
And no C says got him. So they pass off very well. So get yourself, get you some.
A
I'm the password up front.
B
How does that help? So if I don't have a good pass rush, but I communicate very well on the back end, I play a ton of zone. It doesn't allow for you to push the ball down the field. And it gives my D line. That is not a great pass rushing to opportunity to get in the backfield at some point in time. They don't have a lot of sacks, but they don't allow you to get beyond their coverage. These guys, their safeties, play 20, 25 yards deep. They kind of have a good safety. You ever heard of them?
C
Buddha.
B
Buddha. And he went to the University of uw. That's right. University of Washington.
C
You gonna have to say it. Yeah.
B
Let me just call it what it is. He's one of the best safeties in the game.
C
It has been full.
B
It has been for a very long time.
A
But these guys, I was trying to.
C
Do such a Swiss.
B
He's most effective near the line of scrimmage because he's just a heat seeking missile. But they're not using him the way that they have in years past.
C
Good.
B
So it is very good for the Cowboys. But if you're running across the middle and you're running into his own. You might want to have your head on a swivel.
C
Yeah.
B
Because he will knock your head off your shoulders. Legally. That is that.
C
That Buddha isn't about peace.
B
No, not at all. At all.
A
So overall, that baker's not about cupcakes. I'm sorry, what is it?
B
What is my game if I'm going Schottenheimer going against this defense. You guys are silly. I want to run the ball. Yeah. Three down linemen, two down linemen should not be able to stop your running attack. There are natural running lanes that are already apparent for teams that run three, four defense. Because you have a. You have a zero or one technique. You have two, three or five techniques. There's gaps, natural gaps between your guard and your tackle. Right between. Between your center in your tackle, there's a natural gap. There's nobody there. Okay. So your guards are typically unimpeded to work up to the linebackers. And they have some very active linebackers. These are not your average linebackers. These guys will come downhill, they'll hit you in the face, and they shed blocks very well. And they run and hit to the ball. I like their linebackers at the second level, but I think that we should be able to run the ball. So this is a Javante Williams game. Who else is this a game for? This is a game for Jake Ferguson. Jake Ferguson. Reason why is because their guys get so much depth, they are so concerned with backing off and keeping everything in front of them that I already mentioned that their secondary plays, their safeties play 20 to 25 yards deep. They're saying no CD Lamb, no George Pickens. You're not running behind us. No, but you can.
A
You can utilize those guys underneath as well. Especially CD CD Talking about yards after the catch and the short overs and absolutely, absolutely. The slant routes. I mean, that's where he's going to.
B
Be able to eat.
A
Screen for sure.
B
For sure. Everything underneath 10 yards, they run it every once in a while. Every ransom. Everything underneath 10 yards, you should be able to eat them up. But they are allowing that. They're saying, take that.
D
They're bringing it on.
B
Take that. And I can't say who said that, but they're saying everything under 10 to 12 yards, you can have it. We will play downhill, but we're not going to allow for you to get the big play over the top.
A
Yeah.
B
So they're pretty much saying if you either show us that you can have a sustained drive or you just kick field goals all day long, that's what they're pretty much telling you to do, that's where they rest assured. That's where they're confident. This is a good defense. This is not a scary defense, but this is a good defense in the. In the form of the fact that these guys cover well. Their corners are sticky. These guys pass off coverage well in their zones, and they will run and hit to the. They'll run and hit at the ball. I like their defense. I think they're a strong defense. I think that's the only reason why they've been competitive in these games. Their offense has been trash. We'll talk about that tomorrow. But their defense has kept them competitive in every single ball game that they've been in this year.
D
They have a sound defense, for one.
B
Yes, they do.
D
The one thing that I'm concerned about, if you're talking about running the ball, is, of course, you have Javante Williams, but obviously we've been seeing them try to spell in Jaden Blue. He had his first fumble last week. That was something that we had all considered about Jaden Blue. That was his knock in the draft. If you have a guy like Buddha Baker going up and how good he is in run defense.
B
Yeah.
D
To me, that spells trouble.
B
And it's not even just Buddha. Let's go through their linebackers, please. Mac Wilson, number two. That dude would knock your head off. Browning, number five. He's okay. I like him. Middle linebacker, 10, Akeem Davis.
D
Gaither, number 25. I like.
B
I like 25 as well. 25. Xavan Collins. He will knock your head off as well. He's in there often because they run so many linebackers. They'll run four linebackers at a time. Obviously, they have some names. Okay. Calais Campbell on the defensive front, he's old. He's been in the league for a while, but.
A
39 years old, but he's still productive.
C
Look old.
B
He's still productive. Josh Sweat. You guys have heard that name before. Yep. He's a big D D in. They call him an outside linebacker.
D
Super bowl mvp, arguably.
A
He's.
B
Yeah, he was there in that conversation. He's not what he was. He's not what he was. Yeah. I think you still have to respect him for. For being a productive player. But he's not threatening. He's not what they brought him in to be. I'll say that.
C
Yeah.
B
Um, so they have a couple guys up front.
D
Doesn't have the guys around them to be that way.
B
I'm not concerned about their front. I'm really not Concerned about their front. I am.
A
Especially with BB back to.
B
Yeah, yeah. BB doesn't have a big challenge in the middle.
D
No. Let me talk about their front for a second because one of the things that they really like to do is rotate their defensive line.
B
Yes.
D
And I was looking at it as far as the rotation goes, Dante Stills 54% of the defensive snaps, Calais Campbell 47, Dalvin Tomlinson 48%, Darius Robinson 51%. For me, looking at that, that spells Shotty Dak and Clayton Adams need to rely on fast offense being able to control the ball and not let them sub in and out like they like to do when they have a split like that. You need to test out their. What is it? Their conditioning.
C
Yeah.
D
You need to rely on a fast paced, up tempo offense. For me, that would be a great idea. Going into it. I don't know if that's going to be sustainable because you do want to be able to control the clock as much as possible. But at least for me, that kind of eliminates that thing that they love to do in spelling those guys in and out.
C
This is a game where this is a defense that you want to play in order to get us a bounce back game from your offense. Because when you talk about what everything that Denver did well was, everything that we. Particularly last week's QB vision, Isaiah Stamback told you that Denver would probably do well. So he knows ball.
D
But we were glazing, right?
C
Yeah, allegedly. You have sprinkles. Yeah. You have to establish the run here. Yes.
B
For sure.
C
You have to do it. You just have to do it. I don't know why I'm having to say this for another week when Javante Williams. Because this is. This will not be 1, 2.
B
Yeah.
C
Third week where I've actually had to say this. Give Javante Williams the ball. Give Javonte Williams the ball. Give Javante Williams the ball. You made an excellent point. The front. The interior of the defensive line for the Cardinals. We know Calais Campbell and we know Josh Sweat edge, guys, whatever. But as far as like interior. And you see Calais play interior.
B
Yeah.
C
Every once in a while as well. But it's not that dominant defensive interior that needs to be moved around or that is going to be challenging to move around. Okay. So if Cooper Beebe is back as Steven Jones in front office believes that they will. The lanes will be there.
D
Thompson is not the guy that he used to be.
C
He's just. He's not the. The lanes are going to be there. Give Javonte the ball. Let him establish that this is a Cardinals defense that allows more than four yards per carry on the ground.
B
Yeah.
C
More than four yards per carry. So by statistically, by average, that means if you give Javante the ball, giving the ball on first down, it's second and six.
A
Yep.
C
Getting all on second, you gotta take care of the ball third and two. So that's just. This is what I'm saying. And then you can play off the play action there because they do an excellent job. Like Isaiah said, their coverage does an excellent job of not letting you get behind. Yeah, they're one of the best in the league at not giving up the deep ball. They. They do. They are effective at keeping guys in front of them. So what do you do? You use Javante Williams. Because I believe in Javante. You use him to set up the play action and the rest has to play off of that. Yeah, but keep. Keep your head on the swivel because Josh Swift still impactful. I think what he's at five sacks right now.
B
But. But usually that's cover sacks, though.
D
You know what I'm saying?
C
So to that point, they do a good job in coverage and communicating and keeping things in front of you, making Dak Prescott and other quarterbacks have to hold the ball longer than they want to, giving Joshua an opportunity to get back there. How do you neutralize that? Run the ball. That way you make the coverage play more honest and it goes from there.
A
So with all of this being said, I'm looking at this matchup for the Dallas offense to be one where they have to sustain drives for sure. I'm talking 11, 12 play drives where you're running the football effectively, you're moving the chains every so often, and you kind of dink and dunk your way down the field, which isn't necessarily what Dallas is used to. They like to strike for the big play, but they can drive down the field when they need to. The Arizona defense has been so good at executing that and forcing teams into that box. And you don't even have to go further than their final scores to see how good they are at doing that. They're in the mid-20s almost every 27, 23 against Green Bay, 2221 against Tennessee, 2320 against Seattle, even lower than that against San Francisco. 1615, final score. Oh, it was 27, 22 against Carolina, and then 20 to 13. Only one team in any of their games out of the. What is it? They played seven games out of the 14 possible performances for an offense, only one team has scored more than 30 points. Including Arizona, one team has scored only 30 points and that was the Indianapolis Colts and they went 31.
B
They're top.
A
They don't give up points because they don't give up big.
D
All five losses have been by a combined 13 points.
A
That's a historic stat, by the way.
D
Shouts to Nick Eatman give up explosive plays.
A
Never mind. Oh, did that was going to be my. Yeah, that was going to be my KY stat of the week. But keep going, keep going.
D
Sorry, sorry.
A
Now we've got to reset.
D
We're gonna derailed.
A
We're gonna take our second break.
B

B
Don't you have a black rifle spot by your house?
A
It's not like by my house. It's kind of out of way, but it's.
C
Yeah.
A
Somewhat.
B
What would you wear to go get your 10% off?
A
I'd wear this right here. I wouldn't even have to change.
D
It's not that black rifle's out of way. It's that your house is out.
B
Yeah.
A
I shouldn't live that far from a black rifle, but I 100%, dude.
B
I think.
C
I think the Talking Cowboys merch deserves 10 as well. I mean.
A
Yeah, I agree.
C
Stars right there.
B
I honestly think you should get more if you weren't.
A
Yeah, that's what I said. I was like, it should be like 25, but that's not the case.
D
Black rival should do a talking cowboys.
B
Yeah. We have our own QR code.
D
Yeah.
B
What the heck?
D
Or like merch. That's black rifle and talking.
A
That would be sweet.
D
Right.
A
Black rifle will have our people talk to your people.
B
My dad asked about black rifle coffee.
A
Did they?
B
Yeah.
A
Or did he?
B
Yeah, he did. So I have to take him to one of their locations.
D
Absolutely.
B
Really?
A
Good man. Like, I, I don't. We don't get any extra bread to talk about it, but it's, it's good stuff.
D
We get extra beans kind of.
A
All right. To play off of Josh's stat of the week from that.
D
I slid it in before you did.
B
That in on our UK.
A
Each of the Cardinals five losses has been by one score with the opponent taking the lead with under four, five minutes remaining in the game. They are at two and five, but don't be fooled by the two and five record. Let's just go in order here. Week three against the 49ers, they lost by one with a walk off field goal. Seahawks lost by three with a walk off field goal. Week five Titans lost by one with a walk off Field goal. Colts lost by four. Go ahead. Touchdown with 432 left in the game. Packers 2723. Go ahead. Touchdown with 150 left in the game. The five losses by a combined 13 points is tied with the 2017 San Francisco 49ers for the closest point margin in a five game looting losing streak by any team in NFL history.
D
I didn't know that.
A
There you go.
D
Thank you, Kyle.
A
Yeah, thanks, Nick. Thank you, man. But yeah, that's the, that's the extra. The sprinkle on top of. Don't take these guys lightly.
B
No, they're good defense, man.
A
They can play and they've been close.
B
And it's the only reason, and being honest with you, I said it already, this defense is the only reason why those games have been close. Yeah. I repeat, 100. Their defense is the only reason why these games have been close. Their offense, which we will get to tomorrow, is not the reason for the season. Their defense is good. Okay. This is a good defense. It's not scary.
C
It's.
B
It's not even frightening at all. Halloween this weekend, spooky season. It's not spooky, but you have to respect them because they don't make a lot of mistakes. And defenses that are steady and consistent, those are the ones that you kind of have to worry about. Right. This is not an interception team. This is a force fumble type team. Right. If you don't protect the ball, they'll hit you in your chest cavity and the ball will be out and all.
A
Of a sudden any running back, they'll.
B
Give the ball to Jacoby.
A
Looking at you, Jake, they give the ball to Jacoby Brissette and not Kyler Murray.
D
But do you think that the Arizona Cardinals offense is going to look terrible again against the Dallas Cowboys do you.
B
Coming off a buy?
C
No.
B
Just guard Trey McBride. They have another guy out there.
A
We're going to talk about this.
C
I think this. I mean, this is a perfect opportunity. I said it.
B
Oh.
C
I said again, it's a perfect opportunity for the Cowboys offense to bounce back. And the fact that you're playing at home where you typically have been doing well at home offensively. 40, 40, 44. Just get back to that.
A
I don't think we're going to get 40. Burger.
B
No, I'm not saying.
C
I'm not saying. I think you're going to get 40 and we'll get to predictions on Friday. Yeah, I don't. I don't. I'm not going to predict.
B
I don't think you're.
C
But I do think that you can. I think you can surpass 30. I think you can get past 30.
A
Okay. With, with what you saw against Denver this past week, you see that this offense is human from the Dallas side of things. What they've done well is strike for the big play, quick strike ability. George picking CD Lamb over the middle of the field. Jake Ferguson is kind of your safety blanket. Like Isaiah said, this is a big game for Javante and for Jake. How much do you see George Pickens getting involved in different ways than he has in previous weeks.
C
In different ways.
A
Different ways. Because the deep ball may not be there.
C
It may not.
A
And that's kind of been his calling card since he arrived.
C
But here's how you. Here's how you facilitate the deep ball.
B
Second of games now without him scoring.
A
One.
B
Since cd. Since CD got back. Right?
A
Yeah, you're right. It is two games.
C
Oh, the deep pass that. Yeah, he's going that one. Yeah. So. Okay, so I don't see that continuing.
B
That was.
C
So then. Yes, I do think Pickens gets into the.
B
But I'm just saying, like since CDs gotten back, George Pickens has not made.
C
It to the end zone.
B
Correct.
C
Fair.
A
He's had 70 plus yards receiving.
B
I disagree with that. Just stating facts.
C
Still saying run the ball. You know, one way to facilitate the ball is you run the ball. Absolutely. So you set up the play action which then forces Booty Baker and those. Those defensive backs to cheat forward. As soon as you cheat forward, it's. Oh, crap.
B
Your. Your receivers should you. I mean, you're going to have to throw the ball underneath. Right. I'm not saying that you don't take.
C
Shots down the field, but you have to set that.
B
Yeah, yeah. You have set it up.
C
You have to set that up.
B
They're going to give you underneath. Your receivers are going to take hits. So yeah, get stretched, get massages, whatever it is like this is. Their linebackers are going to hit the crap out of you. You probably catch the ball but they're going to hit the crap out of you. So like I said, you better buckle up for that one.
C
So I saw your face when I said I think the Cowboys can, can get 30 plus. I don't know that they get 40, but here's where if I had to break it down, I think if you do what you're supposed to do, Javonte Williams gets two touchdowns. That's 14 points right there.
B
You know why I'm hard fetched to agree with you on the 30 points this week? Because of their, their style of play defensively.
C
Agree. They don't, they don't allow explosives.
B
They don't, they don't allow explosives. And on top of that, the, they win time of possession majority of their games.
A
That's part of how they're built.
C
You know, you know how to flip that.
B
So you know. But in order to score 30, say it with me.
D
Run the ball.
B
No, absolutely. Run the ball. But I'm, which I obviously you guys know I'm a wholehearted believer.
C
Yeah, you are.
B
But there's only so many possessions for a team that consistently does a good job of getting you off the field. Right. Or allowing for you to, for letting you get down there to the red zone, then you got to kick field goals. There's only so many, so many possessions that you're going to possess and if.
D
Your defense doesn't have any interest in getting off the field and we'll get to that, that will be an issue.
C
That's the difference.
A
Well, that's kind of where I'm at. If we're going to see 30 points in this game, then it's probably going to be because your defense also allows 30 points. If we're being completely honest, it's going to be your defense getting pushed around not because of what Arizona has, but because of the discrepancies that you have on your own unit. I don't think Arizona scary offensive.
B
I think this is a field goal game for both teams.
A
Okay.
B
And obviously we'll talk about their offense tomorrow.
A
But I just trying to get fantasy points for Brandon Army.
B
Oh, Brandon Aubrey's gonna have a day. I, I, I, it's hard for me to, and I would love to have full confidence that our offense just marches down the field and scores touchdowns. I'm Saying that based upon what we have seen from our offense and the style of play that our offense has, I don't have the confidence right now that this is a. A 10 to 14 play team. I just. I don't currently.
A
In terms of drive.
B
In terms of drive, I.
A
And I completely agree.
D
And I'm like, they've not shown that for.
B
They've not shown that. And then when you get to zone, the closer you get to Arizona's end zone, the better their defense gets because you have less space. Now Buddha gets involved. Now, their linebackers, all four of them, sometimes five of them, right. Are able to span the width of the field. Yeah. Right. So if you're not running, there's nowhere to go with the ball. There's just a lot of small windows. So bend, but don't break bim. But don't break bim, but don't break. Okay, our back's against the wall now. Now what?
D
Now.
B
Now we go hunt, right? So we're field goals, and that's where field goals come in. Because you. If you can't find those small little windows. Opportunity, or even if you do find them, if you don't convert on them, then you're going to find yourself king. Field goals, and they're like, clap, clap, bravo.
C
So this is what you're hoping that you learned. You're hoping Brian Schottheimer learned from the Denver game. You learned that when you get down there to the end zone or near the end zone, go to. Go red zone, whatever. Don't get. Don't get cute, because this is not the defense to get cute against. This is not the defense to, you know, it's. It's first and goal, second and goal, and you want to, you know.
D
No, when you're down there, make it.
C
Count, hand the ball off. Because again, they're averaging. I looked it up. Specifically 4.2 yards per carry on the ground. They're allowing that. So that being said, if it's goal to go from the four, mathematically speaking, you should score. You should score. If you hand the ball off to.
B
70 plays for the Cowboys offensively, how many times do you want them running the ball?
C
70 plays?
D
35.
B
You want 50?
C
50.
D
I'll take it.
B
Oh, balance.
C
I'll take 30.
A
Yeah, probably 30.
D
I'll take 30.
A
I was thinking 30 and 35.
C
30 runs, 40 passes. Based on what you're saying. Based on 70.
B
For sure.
C
Based on 70.
A
Yeah.
C
30 and 40.
A
I'd. I'd go 40 and 30 then if it's 70.
D
I want to balance the 40.
C
30 what? Keep in mind. So I will go 30. 40, but in those 40 passes, I'm looking at quasi runs as well. So some include some screens, some quick insights. Maybe get. Get Kavonte Turpin involved underneath this quick check Ferguson. He is quick check downs to Jake Ferguson. So when people hear me say 40 passes, I don't want them to think, oh well, you want Dak Prescott to air it out. That's not what I'm saying. This is not the defense to air it out. I'm saying you're going to have check downs, you're going to have screens. Include this don't, don't run screen. So check downs, quick slants, quick hits.
D
Why, why no screens?
B
Because the guys that are going to have to block for you in the screen game can't block their linebackers and.
A
They can't get out there.
C
I agree with that.
B
So they have a ph.
D
Physical second level.
B
There's windows, there's windows underneath, but you got to get to them quick.
C
Your pitches, your inside slants. Yeah, stuff like that.
D
Big game for Brevin. Span forward coming up maybe.
C
Hey, they tried. They got him involved.
D
Spanford.
A
If you ask Tony, oh my God, he's been blocking. Tony likes his blocking on Tony's teach tape or whatever.
D
I don't know.
B
Gm.
A
Yeah.
C
Spiderman, Spider Man.
D
Spiderman Superman.
C

Podcast: Talkin’ Cowboys
Host: Dallas Cowboys
Date: October 29, 2025
Panel: Kyle Yeomans (A), Patrick "Nosey" Walker (C), Josh Rodriguez (D), Isaiah Stanback (B), Chris Beam (Producer)
Theme: Breaking down the Cowboys’ mounting safety injuries and previewing how the offense can rebound against a tough, disciplined Arizona Cardinals defense in Week 9.
This Wednesday’s episode of Talkin’ Cowboys dives deep into two urgent storylines for the Dallas Cowboys:
“You have to establish the run here. Yes. For sure. You just have to do it. I don’t know why I’m having to say this for another week...give Javonte Williams the ball.” — Patrick Walker (30:12)
Cardinals allow 4.2 yards per carry on the ground.
“This defense is the only reason why those games have been close. Their offense, which we will get to tomorrow, is not the reason for the season.”
— Isaiah Stanback (39:09)
On Wanye Thomas’s migraines:
“It sucks. That means from his capacity, he doesn't know how to treat them at all...I can only imagine his frustration.”
— Patrick Walker/Isaiah Stanback (06:13–07:06)
“You have to respect (Arizona). They don’t make a lot of mistakes. Defenses that are steady and consistent, those are the ones you have to worry about.”
— Isaiah Stanback (39:31)
“If it’s goal to go from the four, mathematically speaking, you should score. If you hand the ball off.”
— Patrick Walker (45:43)
This episode of Talkin’ Cowboys sets the stage for a critical Week 9 matchup: Dallas’ battered safety corps has left the team scrambling to fill holes, and the discussion turns to both short-term fixes and whether a veteran free agent might be needed.
Turning to the offense, the Cardinals bring a disciplined, physical, zone-heavy defense that does little flashy but prevents big plays and excels at forcing drives to stall in the red zone. The Cowboys’ best bet is a heavy dose of the run game, methodical ball movement, and strong ball security. Field goals, not touchdowns, may decide this one — and while Dallas has been explosive in big wins at home, breaking 30 points against Arizona’s defense will require patience, precision, and discipline.
Dallas fans: don’t expect fireworks and prepare for a tough, physical grind on both sides of the ball.
For more in-depth tactical breakdowns, discussion of possible safety free agent signings, and a preview of the Cowboys’ offensive rebound attempts, listen to the full episode of Talkin’ Cowboys.
