Fair. All right, so news and notes. Let's jump right into the injury report. First injury report of the week, even though it was Thursday because the Cowboys have a Monday night game. As you well know, Elijah Clark, we already expect that he's going to miss this game. He could potentially be back for the Raiders game given that next week is the buy. Brian Schottenheimer did say a couple weeks, quote unquote, that will put him on track for Las Vegas. Let's see if that's the case. Jack Sanborn was ruled out at the last moment. Endeavor with a groin injury. He did not participate in practice yesterday. He was doing rehab work with the rehab group. He's not trending at the moment to war plane. Well, let's see if that remains the case. Donovan Wilson, he was with the rehab group as well with that elbow and shoulder injury. He did not participate yesterday. We will see if he begins trending in the right direction, but so far not so good for a safety unit that desperately needs guys and they just don't have them. So I will say pause to that point. Related Sidebar I should say Zion Childress and we said he's not a safety, but they had him with the safeties yesterday.

At the moment we didn't know, but turned out to be just a thumb issue, minor issue. And I was told that he returned to practice and he was bouncing around and making tackles and, you know, doing the Marvin Overshone things.

And I love it. So I had a conversation with one Yay Thomas about the migraines and he told me that he is now for the first time in the past couple weeks, he is, in his words, he's stacking good days, which is to say that he's going now multiple days without suffering another migraine. So he said that there's been several days. The problem was is he would have a good day and then they would return and then he'd have a good day and then they return and suffer for, for a couple of days. And so the medical staff has been waiting for consistency for from him. So he said yesterday that this week he's had multiple days of no migraines. He's trained. He's training in the right direction per one Yay Thomas. But you know, all we can do is is hope that he continues to do so. So that's the latest on Oney Thomas with full context. But yeah, that's the injury report for, for yesterday with the Cowboys. Jonathan Wilson not traded in the right direction. Jack Sanborn not trending in the right direction. Elijah Clark, we already anticipate he's going to be re ruled out.

Now Coach Schottenheimer was was on 1053 the Fan this morning talking with Bobby Bell, Sean Sharif and RJ Choppy. Really one of the biggest conversations I took away with it was what he had to say about penalties. And the Cowboys currently bottom five in the NFL when it comes to pre snap penalties. They're about middle of the road whenever, whenever it comes to post snap penalties. But penalties. Wait, I've actually got a whistle in the place.

Yeah.

[Kyle Yeomans]

Yeah. So when it comes to Penalties. Of course, it stuck out to me this morning. Since I am a referee. I have layers of this costume I'll reveal at the. In the start of the second segment. And no, not that type of.

[Isaiah Standback]

I mean, not that type of way.

[Patrick No See Walker]

What in the bachelorette party's going on.

Of course, penalties were a big conversation this past week, but have they really been as big of an issue throughout the season as to what happened in Denver compared to what happened in Denver?

[Patrick No See Walker]

Penalties?

[Isaiah Standback]

Yeah.

[Kyle Yeomans]

Yeah. How much do you feel like it was terrible? Stick out, though.

[Josh Rodriguez]

I mean, it was terrible. This is pre snap penalties. Those are just. Oh, yeah, the pre snap.

[Isaiah Standback]

Unforgivable.

[Josh Rodriguez]

Yeah, those are the ones that, that bother you if you're a coach. The in game penalties, of course.

[Patrick No See Walker]

Okay.

[Josh Rodriguez]

Hey, like competitiveness.

[Patrick No See Walker]

Is that right?

[Josh Rodriguez]

So sometimes, you know, you hold on a little bit longer or you accidentally grab a face mask or whatever it might be. Those are competition fouls that you can coach up. But in terms of pre snap penalties, those are just. Those are, those are just lack of attention to detail or mental errors or whatever. Like, those are just inexcusable. That's how coaches feel about that. If you guys have any questions about that, just watch the Miami game last night because McDaniels almost, you never see him get out of character. And he almost blew a gasket on a fourth and one call when they were right tackle, had a false start. Those are the things that just literally drive you insane. I think back to when I was playing with Jacksonville. We're playing against New England Patriots. We were, you know, that should not have been a ball game, but it was a ball game. We had practiced all week long that the defensive line of the New England Patriots were going to do a shift call. Right before you snap the ball. They're gonna. Hey, they're gonna. Right before you snap the ball in the middle of your cadence, they're gonna say, move right and the whole D line would shift over. Right. They would change their, their alignment. But you knew it was coming. We literally practice it all week long and we get in that situation, we're in the ball game, we're on the, you know, in the, in the black zone. And then lo and behold, we're in the huddle. We're like, look out for the shift call. Look out for the move call. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, it's coming. Everybody's okay. Yeah.

All right, ready?

Break. We get up to the line, scrimmage right 80. Why did move got him? One of our dudes got him, bro. Just. And from that point, the entire game shifted. The entire game went from us being competitive, being confident, to us being backed up kick the field goal. Like, you know, it just changed the entire dynamic of the game. So because of one person's lack of attention to detail and focus, it. It compromises the entire team.

[Patrick No See Walker]

Yeah, it's, it's, it's been a problem. I mean it stood out more in the Denver game, but if you go back and look at the other games, it's, it's, it's been. One of the few consistent things the Cowboys have been doing on a weekly basis is self inflicted wounds and pre stamp penalties are just unforgivable. And while that's true, it's also true that, you know, things like unsportsmanl conduct after the play is over, that's also immaturity, right? That's unforgivable as well. Like you are. These are the types of penalties between like the unsportsmanlike conducts and the, the pre snaps, they're so unnecessary. So when you Hear Schottenheimer say to 105. 3 the fan, when you're talking about combative penalties or penalties in the heat of the moment and things like that, okay, he can live with that. I can live.

Yeah, competition fouls. I can live with that as a competitor. But when it comes to you, you're an offensive lineman, you know the snap.

[Josh Rodriguez]

Yeah, it's a selfish, you know, the snap count.

[Patrick No See Walker]

How are they able to draw you off when you know the snap count? Right? And when the whistle's blown, the whistle's blown. Like I understand the adrenaline of it. I get it. But learn, like you said, immaturity. Learn how to drop the gears, you know what I mean? So those types of penalties have unfortunately been just one of the things that have stuck in the Cowboys.

[Josh Rodriguez]

It's usually lack of focus or emotional intelligence. You know, lack of focus or lack of emotional intelligence. Those are usually the two culprits as to why people get pre snap or post snap penalties. Those are the two areas.

[Isaiah Standback]

And like you're talking about attention to detail. Like lining up in the neutral zone is. Oh, that's a whole nother thing. And it's so frustrating when you're watching. It's like, clearly you're over the line, dude. Look, doing.

[Josh Rodriguez]

No, there are.

[Isaiah Standback]

And you have to have your own checks and balances. You have to cross your own teeth at that point be manageable of yourself in that moment. And it's. The trajectory is going really wrong here because when we started the season off against the Eagles, I think we had four penalties.

[Patrick No See Walker]

Yeah.

[Isaiah Standback]

And I was like, this seems like a change in what Schottenheimer is doing. And then now we've kind reverted back, but it's like you still have a lot of the same personnel that were making those mistakes to begin with. So, you know, it's just kind of going back to old habits. And we've seen that as far as the secondary goes, too miscommunicating in the background. You know what I mean? It's just a lot of those things are cropping up again. Whereas Shoddy was trying to instill this over the off season. And I don't know if it's necessarily clicking yet and if it will click until you get new personnel in.

When you think about the James Houston lining up in the neutral zone, that would have been a stop.

[Isaiah Standback]

Yeah.

And that's a checklist thing. Right. So, like in that particular scenario where we're talking about James Houston lining up in a neutral zone, typically as a D lineman or a wide receiver or tight end that's flexed out, whatever it might be, you come and you look down a line of scrimmage. You look at the referee, right?

The referee gives you an indication whether or not you're good or not, Right?

So there you go. So it gives you indication whether or not you're good or not. That's a part of your checklist. I line up, I look, I confirm, then I go on to the play. But what happens is you get into the flow of the game and you start bypassing that checklist. It's no different than you cooking. Right. There's a certain steps that you take, and every so often you forget that one step and you're like, dang it, I just messed up. Right?

So I. Those penalties will happen. You just can't be a repeat offender. So though he. That penalty did hurt in that moment, I could understand that he just bypassed the checklist. Right. Because there's times where you line up as a receiver and you. You're. I'm focused on the play. I'm focused on my quarterback. I'm focused on the secondary. I didn't Check to make sure that I'm good, because I've done this a thousand times over.

And do you know what that says to me?

That says that you're pressing and there's a lack of confidence there.

Maybe it says that for. For the sporadic offenders before the repeat offenders, it says that you're just not. You're just not getting it. You're either not locked in.

Is that right? So that's why to the repeat offenders, I mean, right after that game, I literally asked Brian Schottenheimer, at what point does it go from speaking to these guys about it to policing it with playing time at positions that you can afford to do it? So if there were a safety that we're doing it, you don't have the luxury. You just got to really try to hammer it on.

But Nate Thomas is currently sitting on the bench like before.

Defensive end, for example. If you have a particular defensive end that continually weakly gets you these penalties and you have guys that you want to get more reps to, at what point do you start policing this with playing time?

But we were just talking about yesterday how, like, the defensive ends are not getting, like, you're not getting anywhere with that position right now. So it's like if you take one.

Of those now you're moving backwards because you get penalties on top of it.

Exactly. But if you're taking one of the reliable question mark elements out of there, I mean, what are you doing Reliable?
