D
I know. That's why I was like, let me pivot.
A
Pivot.

Let me pivot like Ross. But no, yeah, seriously, I mean, that's not the first time that the fandom has voted us and Talking Cowboys, the number one cowboys podcast in the world.

F
Brother.
D
Guys.
B

C
All love.
A
All love.
D

A
How's everybody doing?
E
Swell.
A
Yeah? You ready for next week? NFL draft time?
E
Oh, yeah.
B
It's coming up, huh?
A
It is coming up.
B
Kyle's favorite time of year. It's like Christmas. You get two Christmases a year.
E
How many times have you had the opportunity while working with the Cowboys to, to cover two Cowboys picks on. On opening night?
A
When has that ever happened? Yeah. For you?
D
Never.
A
Oh, yeah.
E
So it's the first week.
A
It's the first. First time they've had multiple first round picks at the same time and in the same draft since what, 2008 was the last time that that happened. So it's been a little bit of time since. Since they've been able to do that. So the fact that you're going to get to pick twice in the first round and, and or go and get you a dude Inside the top 10 is going to be just really exciting. And we're going to go through some mock drafts today. Some of them do include trades, some of them don't include trades, which I think will be interesting. What are you doing there? Oh, yeah, I can'.
E
Now I can't grab this guy.
A
You can grab that.
E
What is this?
A
That is the Dallas Cowboy Star Magazine draft guide.
E
Will this be helpful on draft night?
A
Super. It's super helpful. It's actually available now online as well as in Cowboys pro shops and then regional retail outlets like Walmart, Albertsons, Walgreens, etc. You've got a ton of info for myself, Tommy Yarish and the rest of the Dallas Cowboys.com crew.
B
Maybe a column or two from your boys from Your boys.
D
Science boys in here.
B
Science lab.
A
It is in there.
D
Outstanding assessments from Kyle Thompson, Tommy, Kurt Daniels. Yeah.
B
The work that we have to do on the back end for the website, I, I genuinely do hate Kyle. For a couple weeks out of the
A
the year whenever, because it's all just like 25, 000 words, right? You have to like copy and paste into certain situations.
B
And then I think, well, Kyle actually had to do all of this and sort of copy invasing cheater. But I have to make modules. Kyle.
A
A lot of Phil. No.
B
Congratulations, man. It's. It's always a, a really impressive feat
D
that you do every single situation.
A
This is probably my favorite cover we've ever had to like. It's just a looking good looking just because of the colors and the way that like everybody's kind of situated. I think it's just a good looking cover and, and I believe we're going to nail the first round pick on this.
D
Okay.
A
I think the first round pick is on the covers.
E
I would agree with you, but there's an Oregon duck in the middle.
A
Sorry, dog. Yeah, I did that specifically for you. One of two or are you one of two? I don't.
B
Are you making a bold statement?
A
Yeah, I don't think we'll get two guys. I think we're going to get one guy on this which I think would be great. If you get one of these guys on the list. I'm ecstatic.
D
I feel great not having a single dog on here.
E
You think?
C
What's your.
A
What Probability?
E
What percentage?
A
C.J. allen. I had to take them off.
E
What's your confidence level that you would get one of these guys on this cover?
A
Pretty high. Like a percentage.
E
Give me a percentage.
A
85%.
D
Oh, I was going to say 80. We're right there.
A
Yeah. 85% that we get one of those.
E
What's your percentage?
A
And the five guys on the front, for those that are our audio listeners is Caleb Downs, Mansour Delaine, Sonny Styles, Dylan Fenaman, Reuben Bain Jr. And David Bailey.
B
Those are the six on my current percentage. Now because there was one guy I was really looking forward to.
D
We'll talk about that.
B
Yeah, we, we got to talk about at length, but I mean arm length. Yes, Exactly. Maybe like 25%.
F
Wow.
A
You're not confident that we're going to get any of those. We'll see six players right there.
D
Well then you better bring me a Jacob Rodriguez.
A
What are we picking? 36. 36.
E
Oh, wow.
D
Is that what we're doing?
E
Is it because of his Mustache.
A
Necessarily. Me, I have a second round grade on him.
D
Okay.
A
So like, he should go in the back half of the first. Okay. I have talked to people in the building. They don't feel as highly as I. C.J.
B
alex.
D
We do, apparently, because I'm, I'm with him.
A
I think he's a second round great player. He's a late first, but apparently arm length and missed tackles were a problem.
E
Can't miss tackles at that position.
A
Well, part of, and here's my kind of your job, my argument is he missed tackles because he was trying to punch the football out and he had what, nine force fumbles or whatever. Seven force fumbles. Like I would, I would give up seven force fumbles and a couple missed tackles here and there if you're going to get the football back. But I still don't think he's a first round player. He should go in the back half of the first. But I have him as a second early player because I only have 17 first round.
D
And by all intents and purposes, the back end of the first round is not hypothetically, but theoretically it is the early second round.
A
Early second. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Part of it. But There you go. 25% from Josh.
B
Yeah.
A
Doubts.
B
There's a guy on here that I was really looking forward to and it just. Well, doesn't seem like that's going to pan out.
F
I don't know.
D
Still might.
A
It still might.
D
That'll get into some news and notes. So we got two pieces of news and notes. No transactions for the Cowboys yet. As we approach the draft, we would still like to, obviously, as a collective, see them make some kind of move at linebacker. We'll see if they do going into the draft, but nothing quite yet. But a safety turned linebacker turned back to safety. Found himself in hot water over this past weekend in Prosper, Texas. Safety Marquis Bell was arrested in Prosper, Texas on Friday, April 10th. He's been charged with possession of a controlled substance and marijuana. As per Collin county jail records. To be more specific, the possession of the controlled substance is a felony charge that he's facing. If you're wondering what the controlled substance was, it was a thc, a thc electronic cigarette, which is in fact a felony in Texas. No matter how you feel about it. I have my feelings about it doesn't matter. The law is the law. And, you know, he got caught with it, so they're charging him with it. And then under 2 ounces of marijuana, which is a class B misdemeanor. So Marquis Bell finds himself in some legal issues he's going to have to sort out. And of course that means he's going to have to sort it out with the NFL front office as well. As far as potential suspension, obviously they have not opened a probe into it quite yet, but we do know that it is inevitable they will open a probe and if they find any wrongdoing then they will levy a suspension that Marquis can then appeal. So we'll just have to let this process play itself out is where we are with that. From outside the building not great news, but a draft prospect that is very high on the Cowboys and other NFL teams is bored as well. It is one Reuben Bain I am so sorry Josh. Reuben Bain out of the University of Miami. News has leaked over the past weekend that he was involved in a fatal car accident in which one of his four passengers suffered serious injury due to the accident, was rushed to a trauma center, fell into a coma and ultimately lost their life and they passed away. Reading from the police report here in front of me, the police report states that quote unquote operate Bain operated his vehicle in a careless or negligent manner. Also states that it was eventually dismissed. The charges were but nonetheless he was involved. That news happened in 2024. It's now reemerging just ahead of the draft. Will that cause Reuben Baines draft stock to plummet or not? We will find out when day one gets underway at in Pittsburgh from an
A
NFL side of things. First off, of course, anytime a tragic accident happens like this, our condolences to the family. Whatever happened there is between them and all of that we can only talk about it from a football side.
E
Correct.
A
And one of the football sides is that this is not new to the NFL teams and apparently and we started getting word about this time last week that this could be a storyline. The media didn't have hold of it until the past weekend. This past weekend and teams have had a hold on it for months And I have a good on a good authority that Dallas did know about it. No, they've known. Teams have known. It's been a thought process all the way through and yet he's still highly regarded at the top of boards. There are some teams I do have on also good authority that have him outside of the top 100. There are other teams that don't feel as strongly about this incident and don't feel as if he acted in a negligent manner enough to where it should punish his draft stock. So it depends on the franchise, it depends on the situation. It depends On a lot of things. And that's where Patrick, you just said we're going to see on draft night just how much this affects Ruben Bane. From a Dallas standpoint, I don't think it affects it a ton. I really don't. And I don't know if it does for the majority of NFL teams. It just kind of depends on who is looking at what in the situation. It does. The family released a statement. They were very significant in the fact that they said they wish the best for Reuben. It was a result of a tragic accident and a lot of things kind of played factors into it. But based on what I've had conversation wise in the building and what I've found out around this situation since kind of learning about it last week, it sounds like everything is as is for Reuben Bain in his draft process. It just.
D
There's just no way to know what.
A
No way to know and force.
D
Because on one note, and I hear everything Kyle is saying and Kyle is. In fact, I know you're getting it from credible sources inside the building and around the league as well. But I mean, you look at a Lyle Collins situation back when and you saw how, you know, Lyle Collins fell to the ranks of the undrafted and then you saw with. Help me out. Gas mask.
A
Yeah, Tunsil.
D
Tunsil, Laramie. Tunsil. And you saw that News drop within 24 hours of the draft.
A
It was a little less on that one. That was draft night.
D
Still. My point being you just, you just never know how this all plays out. So we what you know, the credible sources are saying, but you know, we'll see when, when teams start going on the clock.
A
I think the point to that. Sorry to interrupt, but the, the point to that is when it becomes draft night and you've got two names that you're going to pick, one or the other, it's this guy or that guy. And Ruben Bane is an incredible player. He's a top five player on my board, across the board.
F
If.
A
But when you have that in the back of your head, whether you feel good about it or not, it might get to the point where these teams in the top 10 are looking at Ruben Bane and saying, hey, I just can't value you over Sonny Styles. I can't value you over a Mansour Delane or a David Bailey or some of these other players, defensive players that these teams might be searching. So there might be a slide. Do I think it's outside of the top 100, outside of the top 15, outside of the top 12. I don't. I don't think he gets past 12.
B
I think the, the, the clarifier here or just I. When in terms of how teams feel about him now the word dismissed was obviously the biggest deal part of that, that report because now that he's out of like charges, the, the law isn't necessarily involved in this anymore. It should be par for the course because the case is dismissed. But of course that just comes with the baggage of picking a guy like that. And you know, if you think you can sort of turn that around or if that was just a one scenario situation and the total encompassing player that he is. So I mean I. Assuming that it's kind of par for the course for him now.
D
I think that you, you struck a very valuable chord there. I think what teams are going to want to see as they're interviewing Reuben Bane and they're putting him through the paces, they want to make sure that this was a one off. They want to talk to him about it and see, you know, where's his mindset coming out of that. And then of course they're going to do their due diligence and see has there been other off the field issues that have not been publicized just yet because teams have their way of finding out these things. So I believe if it's a one off and he's remorseful and he's not had any additional issues that even hint toward additional red flags off the field, I believe what Kyle is saying is correct. I believe that he'll. His draft stock will still be where it was before the news broke. And like you said, the case being dismissed also matters greatly as well because
A
remember Lyle Collins, since we. That was still an investigation that was happening and legal action can still be taken after the cases are dismissed and when he signs an NFL contract that might pop back up again, it very well could. However, in terms of criminal court and legal action that is happening in terms of his availability for NFL franchises, that's in the books, apparently.
D
Yeah.
A
So lots of intrigue around that. It feels like it happens every year. Isaiah, back in your draft year, do you remember this happening to anybody? Just these stories. Not that specifically, but stories that affect draft stock and things of the sort.
E
So character, personality. Yeah, nothing like this. I mean this is a. That's a pretty big deal.
A
So since you bring up character and personalities, how big of a part of the process was that for you going into it? Because these teams are going to invest millions and millions of dollars into these players. And this is a point I've tried to get across to a lot of the tape junkies, as I like to call it on, on the draft show. Everybody loves to watch tape and that' huge part of it. But the evaluation process is more than that. How much was it for you back in the day through the draft process when teams were trying to figure out your character?
E
Yeah, I mean, I didn't have any character issues, but I think for me it was injury side of things.
D
Sure.
E
So I was, I didn't even know what 30 visits were. I mean, I didn't come to know that until I started working here. I just knew that I had visits that I had to go make.
B
People made you go places and yeah,
E
seriously, I mean I truly did not, not. I was not made aware of this 30 visit thing until a handful of years ago. But I, I guess my 30 visits that I had were Jacksonville, Miami, St. Louis at the time and Dallas. Those were my 30 visits. I remember those conversations. I remember those trips, asked a lot of questions. I remember sitting down with Jerry Jones himself face to face. But in terms of my character, I didn't have any of those. I think the character questions that we had and around revolving around our draft was around Dwayne Bowe and Jamarcus Russell. Those were the two main guys, I guess that had question marks. But I mean, something like this, man, like this, this is heavy. This is, that's, that's. It's not something that. I know the word dismiss. You can't, I don't know how you can dismiss. I don't have the details to have an opinion on it. So I mean, let me say that. But I don't know how, how something so severe can be. Yeah.
B
From a legal standpoint, I'm not saying.
E
No, no, no, no, no.
B
Just a term.
A
I'm talking about black and white paper.
F
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
E
No, no, no. I'm just talking about like the word around because I've also too have heard from other organizations that they're like, yeah, not, not worried about it. I'm like, this is kind of major. Something major happened.
A
Right.
E
So I mean, I'm sure they're doing all of their homework or have done their homework. I have. I don't understand how like something like that can go unbother or unmentioned for two years, you know, or whatever. Whenever it took place in 24, at least one. I don't know how something could be submerged for that long. And then information, voila. Does all of a sudden comes out to your point. You know, families would do what they need to do to position themselves and be quiet and play the game until somebody has a pocket full of money to go after. Right. So it's true, that's that, that is strategy that some families and some individuals choose to take. And I wouldn't put it past I don't know that family, but I wouldn't put that out the, out the window, out the window either in terms of things that could, could happen. So those are things that organizations are going to have to consider. I'm sure that he's a good young man. I'm sure, I'm hopeful that that was a one, you know, accident type of deal and unfortunately it had dire consequences for that individual in that family. But these teams do, they put a lot of money into research.
D
I'll say this, and that's what I mean. I don't think it's entirely out of the frame of thought that it would be submerged for this long. Because keep in mind, in 2024, although Ruben Bane was starting to turn that corner, he didn't have 32 NFL teams taking him through a pre draft screening process. And then you of all people, you know exactly what that entails. Even more so nowadays than then because of the prevalence of like social media, things like that and what, what players have to go through. So until teams commit to this might be the pick, right. They're not in 2024, they're not digging in like they are in 2026. So that's probably why it kind of stayed under the radar. And then it started to come up well ahead of the media finding out. And then, you know, as the teams find out, you have individuals inside of the team who speak with the media and then they're like, hey. And then the media starts digging and then here we go.
E
And, and just sort of the fans at home and our family understand these organizations, especially when you're talking about top, you know, top picks. Yeah, I can give you guys an example at least on the NBA side. When I was coming at, getting ready to come out at the same time my, my boy Brandon Roy was coming out of the draft, he was going to be a top pick in the draft. And I remember football offices say, hey, Isaiah, you know, we have some investigators and some guys that want to, want
D
to talk to you.
E
And I'm like, what the heck happened? You know, who Merc who? You know, and they're like, no. So I went, had the meeting and it was an individual that was, that was a PI who was hired to interview me about Brandon Roy. And they were asking Me all the questions about Brandon right now, mind you, I was his teammate from the time we were like six years old until all the way through high school.
A
You knew it all.
E
I knew B Roy. Right. So. So just to let you know, they went not only, I'm sure they went through his family, I'm sure they went through his coaches, they went through his teachers and they got all the way to me where a PI sat down with me, a former teammate and a friend, long time friend who was. They were interviewing me to get insight about somebody that they were about to spend a lot of money on. So that is the level and the depth at which teams go when they are going to invest this type of capital into an individual.
D
They don't want to be surprised. And if it can come out, if it can be found out, it'll be found out. That doesn't always mean it'll come out, but teams will find out.
A
Well, that's why this took so long to hit the media airwaves is they were asking about this in the fall. Yeah. Like they were asking about this in past years. And the media still never really picked it up until two weeks before the NFL draft. So things can change just like that. With that being said, we're going to talk about some mock drafts and some that have already hit the media waves. But we're also going to do a live mock draft draft amongst our group and see what kind of decision we can come to later in the episode.
E
Don't you mock the mocker, Kyle.
A
Don't you mock it. But first when we come back, we're going to take some phone calls from talking. Oh yes. And we have a prompt for you. 8888-552297-88888-55-2297. Is the phone line the question today? What are you doing with picks 12 and 20? We'll see what you got. Mock it up when we come back with more talking Cowboys.

Back to Talking Cowboys Back here on Talking Cowboys. This segment is brought to you by Invisalign. The official smile of the Dallas Cowboys. Back with Patrick Gnosis Walker, Josh Rodriguez, Isaiah Stamback. It is I, Chris Beam in the back. I'm Kyle Yeomans. It's time now to talk to Cowboys nation. The question today what are you doing with picks 12? What are you. What are you doing? And 20, 12 and 20? Are you trading them? Are you picking and who are you picking or where are you trading?
E
Pick it and lick it, Kyle.
A
Yeah, I guess so. First caller on the line. If there's anybody that's going to tell us what's going to happen with 12 and 20, it's this man. It is Nebby from Golden Spring, Maryland. What's going on?
C
Hi guys. Thank you so much for taking my call. And the first thing I want to do is apologize to my man Josh Rodriguez for bringing up the Eagles winning the super bowl all those years ago. The only thing I was trying to do was say that go going from 7 and 9 to Super bowl champions is possible because it's been done before.
E
Don't you backpedal, NEB. You stand 10 toes down in that. Don't you apologize.
B
You remain unforgiven, sir. How dare you.
C
You also, Patrick. No. See, Walker, I wish you a speedy, full recovery. My man.
D
Love you, brother.
C
Before I go, I just want to say, with pigs 12 and 20, I am staying put. And for the first pig, I'm taking the corner from. From. From Louisiana State University. And for the second pick, I am taking a. A linebacker. Linebacker. Although I don't know who specifically. Take care. Thank you so much for being patient with me. Have a great week. I love you guys. Go Cowboys. Bye.
A
Yeah, love you, too.
D
Love you, too. Nails. I saw Josh. You said you weren't going to forgive him, and then he said what he said about, you know, sticking and picking,
E
and all of a sudden, and I
D
mean, all of a sudden, he did forgave him.
B
He's kind of on my side as well. Last week when we were talking about cornerback versus defensive end, and then make sure. Make sure you got to get a linebacker and maybe stick and pick and. I don't know, buddy. That Eagles thing, it's tough.
A
I don't know if I thought it was a great point when he made it. I think it's a great point still today. And he was just trying to will Dallas to a Super bowl.
D
That's all.
B
But don't bring up that name around your friends.
A
Hold on.
D
Shouts out to Alan. Alan asked what happened to me. And then. So Patrick got crossed up by Derek. Stop it.
E
Oh, that's funny.
D
Stop it. Stop it. I was at a sporting event. I was getting my full blown all pro status on. I stepped wrong in a divot in the field that I didn't see. It was a divot.
A
Divot.
D
It torqued my ankle.
A
It was a bad playing surface.
D
It was. The ankle held and the knee did not. Completely blew out my patellar tendon. So what you can't see is I have a medical brace from thigh high all the way down to my ankle. I cannot bend my knee, so I had it surgically repaired. So that's what's going on.
A
Stand up. I was just showing you the crutches. I was about to say don't stand up.
D
Right here.
E
Showing off crutches of what he just said there. That miss means that he doesn't have to race Tommy Aris this. This offseason.
A
That's all he was trying. That's all.
B
That means he probably could still beat Tommy.
D
I could still be Tommy. So thanks for the well wishes from Nibs. Thanks for the love from the family. I am pushing through. I am on IR right Now. But I am working hard in rehab to try not start training camp on the PUP list. So stay tuned. How.
A
How do you feel about what he said with 12 and 20 taking men? Sort of.
B
I like it. I like it.
D
Want my damn edge. I want my damn edge.
A
I will say. I will say.
B
Looking for it.
A
Just. Just based on. Just based on what Nebby said there. The linebacker position, you're probably able to find a starter at 20. You may not find a starter at 92. You can find yourself a possible starter slash rotational edge at 92 easier than you're going to find a starting linebacker. So what about corner? Corner? You kind of need to pick 12 or 20. You can find a good corner at
B
92 between easy and Gary. You don't feel like it's good enough. Sorry, I don't want to. I don't want to just throw around that term. But do you think with a solid secondary linebackers in place, do you think that's enough? Excuse my language. Enough to get you by.
D
I hate that word.
B
I'm sorry.
D
It's been 30 years. I don't want to hear enough. That's why I love what Kyle said.
B
You were the worst defense in the league last year.
D
Listen.
B
And you're telling me that's not an upgrade over what you're getting?
D
Enough.
A
I.
B
It. Listen, we're talking middle of the pack here, guys.
A
I don't think it gets you middle of the pack.
D
It's not hard to upgrade over rock bottom.
F
Bottom.
D
Wait, you just bring it. It's not hard to upgrade over rock bottom. That's why I love what Kyle said on Thursday show when he said you gotta pay to play. Right. Scared money don't make money.
B
This is fair.
D
That's what I'm saying. And being good enough ain't enough. I need my edge so that those linebackers can roll more freely and especially the defensive back so they can play more freely. An elite pass rush and interior defensive line. You have the interior guys.
A
Yeah, you got those guys.
D
An elite defensive makes everything behind them better. Now the truth can be said in the inverse. But the guys that you have back there, and I know you agree, but you're also going to agree the second part of this. The guys that you have back there better be all pros or at least close to it if they're going to flip that equation. It can be flipped. But your corner safeties and linebackers better be the best.
A
And available. Yeah.
D
And available.
A
And available.
D
And available. So agreed.
C
Right.
E
I was going to make that point yeah, the D. Having a, A, A defensive front that can get up to the quarterback makes your. It makes your secondary better. Having a secondary that can get after receivers make your defensive front better. So that's what he means by the inverse. However, you have to take into account when Mr. Ky, aka Mr. Draft has just stated that the cornerback has the least amount of depth out
A
of those three position groups a linebacker would have. But corners. Corner has linebacker less depth than that linebacker, corner.
E
Then D line right.
D
D, E in the reverse.
A
Or like in like lack of depth.
D
Lack of depth.
A
Like linebacker. Linebacker has lack of depth. Then you've got corners.
D
And then.
E
And then in terms of what you
A
need, there are good linebackers at 92, but I don't know if they're going to be ready year one starters. That's what you need.
C
Yeah.
B
And you need that.
A
You need that now at corner, you need a guy who can rotate and play nickel or be a boundary that can push Ron Bland inside or whatever
B
it may be based upon, but based upon one.
E
If you, with the two picks that you have in the first round, need 12 and 20. If you have 12 and 20, but you have three glaring positional needs.
D
Right.
E
Of those three glaring positional needs, two of them have a lack. Have the least amount of depth.
A
Yeah.
E
Right. So if there was going to be an odd man out, it would be the defensive end position based upon what you have and based upon what you need. Correct?
B
I agree. All right, that's where I'm at.
E
I like your picture.
A
One more caller and then we've got to get into our mock drafts. This are actually two more callers. Greg in Columbus, Ohio, you're on top of the Cowboys.
E
Not a bad city.
A
What up, Greg?
D
You know something?
C
Hey, guys.
F
Hey.
C
I was wondering if we can get some more competition in that. Sorry, AFC north and allow the key Ohio State, Buckeyes.
A
Okay.
C
I mean, the first round is going to be half Buckeyes. So I mean, what's the deal here? But as far as your 12th and 20th, I would, I would do like how they did with that guy that went to Green Bay. Move back a couple spots, pick up a draft pick, then say that 12th or 14th, take the best that there is because this is a passing league and with the 20th, I would try to do the same thing. Move back a couple spots and just take the best linebacker or defensive end that's available.
A
There you go.
C
And then accumulate a couple more draft picks and make that Parsons trade even better.
A
Thank you. I appreciate Greg in Columbus. This good idea on the trade back
B
scenario, I really like that idea is. But is there a partner between 12 and 20 that you can reliably.
E
Yeah.
B
Trade with and also get you like a third rounder at least to kind of get you back in that conversation? Somewhere between, you know, 20 and 92.
D
Right.
A
So there's, there's a couple of teams that you might be able to talk with. The Vikings maybe want to go up and get Dylan Phenomenon before he kind of rolls into like possible territory. Seems like he's, he's very much so been like a Vikings target. The thought process though, and I don't disagree with the way he said it, go get the best corner, best linebacker, best edge rusher that's available at those two spots. The only problem for me is when evaluating these players, you're looking at the value of some of the top players in the draft. There's a significant drop off at corner behind Jermaine McCoy and Mansour Delaine. There's a gap until the next guy. So if you trade back from 12, you're probably not going to get one of the top two guys. You're going to get one of the second tier corners, still the best one available, but it's probably a second tier corner. Same thing can be said for edge rusher. If you've got Ruben Bain or David Bailey, those are the, or Arvell Reese, those are the high end edge rushers. There's a significant gap still some really good guys in the mix there at the second level, but it's a second tier of edge rusher. So if you're at 12, one of those guys could fall to you. If they don't, maybe you trade back. And then the same thing can be said for linebacker Sonny Styles and then it's a drop off and then it's everybody else. I mean, C.J. allen is one of my favorite guys in the draft. Apparently there's a medical red flag there that teams are checking up on. So we'll see what happens on draft weekend. Whether he's available or not for certain teams.
D
Go dogs.
A
I think. Exactly. I think he's a good player and I think he'll be fine. But I don't know the medical, so
B
I don't know the.
A
Fair enough of it. Fair enough. So that's, that's where the, the conundrum lies with Dallas at 12:20. It's a great word is you, you have the ability to trade back. Do you have a trade partner that's willing to trade? Because if you're wiped out Other teams also might be wiped out. So why are they trading up to go get it? Maybe it's an offensive player. Maybe one of these wide receivers is on the board and they want to go get a wide receiver and you're okay taking a step back. That's probably more likely as opposed to trading back just for the sake of trading back. It's got to be for somebody.
D
I'm not, I'm not trading back from 12. I would only trade up from 12, but I am willing to trade back from 20 depending on how things.
A
If you pick at 12 and above, I'm okay trading.
D
Yeah, exactly.
A
If you.
E
But I'm not.
D
I'm not bailing out of 12.
A
I'm okay with trading. If you're in. If you're still picking twice in the top 20 and you need to trade back. Like, let's say you get wiped out and you trade back from 12 to 18 and you pick up a second or a third round pick.
D
I don't want to, I don't want to drop out of the top 15.
B
But correct me if I'm wrong, did they not do that for the Micah Parsons?
A
Micah was 10 to 12, so they dropped back. He dropped back two spots. They picked up the third, which ultimately became Chauncey Gold.
D
You were still in the 15 top 15. So that's what I've just said. So Kyle was presenting a hypothetical scenario like maybe if you drop back from 12 to 18, then 18.
B
Okay. But not 14 or 15.
D
I'm not.
A
See, but that's where I have first round grades on my board. I don't know how many they have on their board. It may be 14 or 15 when it's all said and done. But if you, if you trade out of that specific spot and you trade back, you. You're going to be in a second tier of guys that are all early second round grades anyways. So you might as well pick up another dart to throw at the dartboard. You get what I'm saying? Even if you, Even if you go from. From 12 to 18, you move back six spots. Trading out of the top 15 doesn't matter if you only have 14. Offensive or first round.
D
Well, that's fair. But then that just kind of circles me back to my original point, which is I'm either 12 or moving up from 12.
E
Yeah.
D
And then I'm willing to talk about moving back from 20. Depends, depending on what happens there.
B
And just really quickly, where's Colton Hood on your. On your board?
A
Early second.
E
Early second?
A
Yeah, he's I haven't stacked the board yet. That'll probably come next week, but he's probably going to be end up like 21, 22.
B
And he was a target for you, right? As well. Like was he a possible cowboy or no?
A
Yeah, yeah, I think, I think he's definitely a possible cowboy, More so at 20 than at 12, but I think he'd be a good pick. He's that's, he's part of the second tier of, of cornerbacks. Mansour and Jermaine McCoy are higher than that. McCoy's got the question marks with the, with the medicals and you have Chris
B
Johnson higher than Hood.
A
I'm not as high on Chris Johnson as, as I am on Hood. I like Chris Johnson, but not that much. All right, we got to take our second break. We got one more caller on the line. Plus we're going to take a look at some mock drafts when we come back with more talking cowboys right after this.

Back to Talking Cowboys back here on the draft show this summer or. Excuse me, sorry. This is talking Cowboys. This is talking cow.
E
You're ready for camp, aren't you?
A
No, no, no.
B
That's the spring, Kyle.
A
That's the read. Guys, I just said the wrong show title. This is the Talking Cowboys podcast. This summer train where the stars are made. At Dallas Cowboys youth football and dance camps. Can't believe you guys thought I was going crazy with the this summer thing when you didn't hear me say this is the draft show. Well, to be fair, at the beginning
D
of we don't have the read in front of us, all we heard you say was this summer. It's like, okay, I was ready for box.
A
That's right.
D
So you got to give me a minute.
A
Give me like 10 days and then I'll be ready for oxner.
D
Give me 10 weeks.
E
Yeah, you need 10 weeks.
A
Yeah, you're right.
D
I'll have a year. But let me get off the crutches at least.
E
Yeah.
A
I am excited for training camp when it comes around because it's always the.
D
This is going. This training camp is going to be so fun as we. Christian Parker and this new coaching staff. I am so eager to see what the energy looks like from these players buying into that system because that energy was just not present with the Eber Floose locker room.
A
Yeah.
D
So.
C
And.
A
And not to mention, you could have two first round picks.
C
Yeah.
A
And. Or like a top 10 pick.
B
Yeah.
A
So there's a lot to be talking about there. All right, we got one more caller. We're actually. We're going to push. We're going to push the mock draft segments to next week because we had so much kind of ready for it and we ended up talking more on The Ruben Bane. And then your calls have been really good. So we're going to push mock drafts in the mock draft frenzy that we were going to talk about to next week. So we apologize for that.
C
That.
A
But tune in next Tuesday at 10:00am all right, Nick in Austin, Texas, you're on Talking Cowboys. What's going on, Nick?
D
Tx.
F
Hey, guys. How's it going?
A
Great. How are you?
F
Good. Hey, Patrick, I know how we can get you good real fast.
A
Talk to me, brother.
F
Go up in there and hit up Brit Brown. He'll take care of you.
A
You know what?
D
Cowboys have some great resources. Brit Brown, Jamar. You know, I might go tap on those doors. Is it for need to just know you haven't already? I was going to say I'm not.
A
Well, see Pat on the bands outside
D
my orthopedic surgeon do his thing and then I can bring in other resources. You know what I mean? Got to let the guy I'm paying to do the thing. Do the thing.
E
He's pulling Trayvon Diggs.
D
But yeah, you know, you're absolutely right.
A
Not in the building.
D
Fantastic advice from. From the ats.
A
He's going to lose his fine. He's going to get by.
D
The team's going to be like hell out of my office.
F
I think we can all agree that our top three needs is pass rusher, corner, and linebacker.
B
We agree.
D
Yeah, we agree. We agree, just not the order.
E
Three episodes in a row.
D
We agree. We agree, just not the order.
F
The, the problem is, is, okay, so you got Monster Delane, you got the guy in Tennessee that everybody's worried about, his medicals, and then he comes out and runs a 4 3. So I don't know much about the knee. Can you, I mean, can you still run a 4:3 and still have, you know, some issues going on?
A
Isaiah?
E
Yes, running.
D
Let me go out here and show
E
you running a 4:3 is a straight line. Right. A lot of times whenever you're talking about somebody's knee or whatever medical on the lower half is about the change of direction. Yeah. Right. So you can, sometimes you can be healthy enough to run straight. Straight, but it's a. Can you decelerate?
A
Can you change directions?
F
That big of a deal. They make it seem.
A
Then it's still a big deal. I mean, to come back and to run that. And he ran a 44 flat at his pro day. And the, the. For him to come back and do that after having knee surgery is significant.
E
That's.
D
The cone would be more telling the,
A
the cones and the drills that's that's what's going to tell you more. And he didn't do shuttle or cone.
D
Yeah.
A
So there's.
E
That's where the stress is.
D
Yeah.
F
That's where you're at 12 and 20 and I don't really. Okay, so you. Everybody's been talking about moving up with the Browns. I don't really want to do that. Yeah, you get it. You know, top 10 pick. But then you're not picking again till 39. I don't really care for that. There's. There's been some mocks that have where. Where Caleb Downs could fall to you. Now, I know he's a safety, but considering his talent, do you still take him and then worry about the other things later?
E
Ain't falling. I tell you that right now.
A
And if he does. Yeah. I will run the card in from Frisco.
B
Kyle will announce it on the draft show.
D
There is no reason.
B
Cowboys are on the clock and they've already picked.
E
There is no reason why that young man will fall.
D
You can't say.
F
Okay, so let's say he does it. So at 12, then D. Okay. The top linebacker is going to be gone. Sunny Styles is going to be gone. The next level would be either C. Would you say C.J. allen or Rodriguez would be the next two?
D
Well, I would go in that.
A
In that scenario you're talking about at linebacker.
F
Yes. Because behind. That's one of our needs. But I think. Think 12 is probably too high to pick a linebacker other than Sonny style.
A
Absolutely.
D
I would agree. I wouldn't take C.J. allen at 12 and I'm gold.
F
Okay. So in that case, if Monsieur Delane is gone, would you take Jamon McCoy from Tennessee?
E
You.
A
You like. It might be one of those things where you might have to. That's a wipeout scenario is because at
F
20, I believe that you could. You could trade back to say like 25 and you pick up a third. And then you could have your pick of either a linebacker there or an edge rusher prop, possibly Mesador.
A
Yeah.
F
And then. Yeah. So then. And then once the draft is. Oh, I mean you could still get a linebacker later, but. And I know we can't talk about players, but there's a guy in Miami that's been think to us possibly that I would give up a third rounder for. From next year.
E
Yeah.
F
Or maybe even this year if we pay back.
D
Which year? Next year.
A
Right.
D
Continue, my friend.
F
If y' all know who I'm talking about. The guy from Miami is the tackling machine.
C
Yeah.
D
So future picks are.
F
I'm talking quite a bit, so I'm gonna hang on to see what y' all think.
A
Yeah, we appreciate you. Take your time. Yeah, appreciate you, man. And he brings up great scenarios. I think he's optimistic more than most, just in the way the players could fall because Akeem mezador falling to 20 is not a certain thing. You could maybe get him to fall. If he does fall to 20, that would be great. And I think there's your corner and edge rusher possibility. Talking about Jermod McCoy in a wipeout scenario is very much so a possibility. Like, let's say those big six names that I talked about, the guys that are immediately going to impact your team are off the board when you get to 12 and you do stick and pick, Jermoh McCoy might be the top name on your list. He was a 30 visit yesterday as reported by Todd Archer. So he was in the building. Dallas is kicking the tires to see what his availability is. But that goes back to what you were talking about, Isaiah. It's not just the straight line speech.
B
You're.
A
You're being asked to throw a Lamborghini in reverse and then spin it around 180 and go full speed the other direction without losing any speed. And doing that on a possible flat tire is tough.
E
Cowboy said they're done with projects.
A
Exactly.
D
As they still work to make sure that Savone Revel can and.
A
Hold on, hold on. Let me. Let me clarify here.
D
Knee.
F
They.
A
They technically didn't say it that way. They didn't say they were done with projects. They said, we're not going to take a red shirt guy.
B
Yeah.
A
Jermaine McCoy is not going to be a red shirt guy. He's. He's full go come training camp. And even before that, it'd probably be better come a minicamp and rookie minicamp possibly. He could do his stuff. So he's not a red shirt guy.
D
Is it a Savone Rebel situation?
A
No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
B
They're not going to do that again.
D
He's 18.
A
He'll be 18 months removed from his knee injury, which was in January of 2025 by the time training camp comes.
D
Right.
A
That's true. And Savone Rebel was much further later than that. It was September, So he was 12, less than 12 months removed.
D
Yeah.
E
I do like the idea potentially of grabbing your guy, whatever that is, at 12, and then at 20, maybe dropping back a handful of picks, pick up a third and using a third to go acquire a veteran who's already proven in this league. I do like that option.
A
Yeah, could do that.
D
I like those words.
B
I like those words, too. I concur.
A
That does it for us here on Talking Cowboys. Hope you had some fun with us over the last 50 minutes or so. We will be back next week for a draft preview edition.
