It's a wonderful Wednesday edition of Talking Cowboys presented by Black Rifle Coffee company Live from the Star in Frisco, Texas in the SWBC studios. The SWBC studios. Welcome in everybody. No, see, Walker is not here yet. We've got Josh Rodriguez, we've got Isaiah Stambach, Chris Beam in the back. I'm Kyle Yeomans. Glad you're with us. Pat will be here any second now. Any second. Hey, bud. What a cut up. He's made the best point he's made all year.
A
I tell you what, I tell you what, bro. My, my, my dread brethren. Yeah.
B
So fellers, what's up man? Welcome back.
A
Good to be back post bye week.
B
You took a couple shows off initially to go out to LA and have a vacation out there. Off kind of, Kyle, you know, like you were just kicking your feet up on the west coast.
A
Sun can't be in two places at one time, Kyle.
B
No, I mean, yeah, you're right.
A
I tell you what. NFL Network knows where home is. They know this is this going.
D
If you were a true professional, you would figure it out.
A
Listen, if I had Double J's checkbook, I would figure it.
B
Yeah, get that helicopter going.
A
Exactly.
B
Yeah. Let me get the p. The private jet.
A
The thing is like as soon as, as soon as our show starts here, like we are literally getting off of our. The main air right this, the, the airwaves there. So like.
D
Oh, so you're not working 7 o' clock during the time that this show starts.
B
Remember he's called in a couple times after they're filming. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
A
See, I'm tapped in, buddy.
D
But you know who was putting in work yesterday?
A
Who's that for?
D
Texas legends, Kyle Yeomans. I saw him on the TV yesterday.
A
On the tube.
D
Yeah, I saw him on the tube.
B
First, first home game of the season for the Texas.
D
Congrats.
A
A lot of fun.
B
Yeah.
D
He was on the kids cam.
B
I was on the kiss cam. Do you see that video? I feel like you out of anybody.
A
I did not, obviously.
B
I just put it up on X last night, like, late last night. My wife is the emcee of the Legends, and she's been there longer than I have. She's done a great job for a long time, and she's one of the more entertaining and talented people that I know on a microphone. And as I'm, like, getting my notes ready, I was trying to find a read. We had, like, a read for a car dealership that I was. That I was trying to find coming out of break.
C
And.
B
And as I was looking for this read out of the, like, background, I hear kiss cam, But I've never, like. The reason it stuck in my head was, like, I don't think there's ever been a kiss.
A
And you're in the booth, and I'm.
B
I'm on the floor right. Right next to the legends bench on the floor, and I hear out of the corner, my. My. My headset. And I've got my headset on looking down, and I hear I'm going to kiss the guy on tv. And of course, I know it's Lorena. I know it's my wife. That's that.
D
You're like, damn it. Who's she kissing?
B
Yeah.
A
Hold on. Was it, like, one of those slow, like.
B
Oh, no. She, like, legit. Like, like, reached around and planted one on me.
A
Oh.
B
Oh, yeah. I, like. I had, like, the headset on, so I have the microphone right here, and I had to flip the microphone up before she, like, smashed it into my face. So you prepared yourself just like. I'm talking fraction. Fraction of a second. It was real quick. And it was funny because after the game, all the legend staff was like, did you know it was her? And I'm like, yes. There's only girl that speaks on a microphone in the building. I knew she was coming. I just didn't know what was happening or what it was about. And then, of course, right, as soon as she's, like, done engaging lips with me on the. On the. The. The kiss cam in house.
A
Yeah.
B
Our TV broadcast returns from break, so I'm, like, flustered, trying to get my. My read back in front of me. And I finished the read first because, you know, I'm a professional.
A
She flushed you?
B
Absolutely, she did.
D
So we now have proof that Kyle has kissed a woman before.
B
I now have done Proof as triplets.
D
We got there somewhere, buddy.
A
I tell you what. But he was not the aggressor.
B
Yeah, exactly. Yeah. But it was, it was a lot of fun last night. The, the Legends actually, we got rings last night. Oh, we got a franchise of the year last year. The Legends did. Didn't win a championship. But like on the business side, one of the big things was our broadcast. Like our broadcast played a factor in it.
D
Hey, congrats, buddy.
B
Really cool to be a part of that and get to celebrate that last.
A
Coming through.
B
You know the yeoman legend.
C
Yeah.
A
We've.
B
We've got a. We've got a star studded family and it's not me. All right, let's get into a little bit of news and notes. We're kind of stalling a little bit here for Patrick. He was caught in traffic. He'll be here any second now. But I, I know one of the things that he's going to talk about and I'm going to save it for when he gets here.
A
Yeah.
B
Is they did activate a couple of guys.
A
Oh my goodness. I. I've heard something about that.
D
Couple activations.
B
Couple of activations off of the injured reserve.
D
Couple big names on there.
A
But while we're stalling, I guess per se.
D
Just talk.
A
There's a game coming up, right?
B
There is a game coming up.
A
There's a game coming up on Monday night.
D
Monday night.
A
Hey, is there a game coming up this week? Next week?
C
This week?
A
This week or next week? How would you consider that?
B
Talking about the Cowboys? Yeah, yeah, yeah. It's Monday.
A
Monday.
B
That's this week, is it? Yes, it is this week. Is it. How many days away is it?
A
I mean it's.
B
Yeah. I mean, less than a week away.
A
What do you consider the end of the week?
B
Monday?
D
This is for football.
A
Yeah.
D
The NFL schedule is different days.
B
It's Monday night. Is the end of the NFL week. Just asking.
D
It is still technically week 11, right?
B
Yes. Yeah, that's. That's.
A
We're stalling.
D
Stalling.
B
Isaiah. Isaiah wants us to get into news and notes real quickly, but he wanted you to be able to deliver the great news you've been waiting on for, oh, so long. Do it. Do it.
A
Do.
C
Well, first, do you want, you want the bad news or the good news?
A
No, no, we're already on the good side. Don't do that to us.
B
Yeah, don't do that.
C
Let's go with the good news.
B
Yeah, put those heads.
C
Agent Zero.
A
Huh?
C
Agent Zero.
D
Who's that?
A
Agent zero.
C
Demario show.
D
Oh, I thought you were number 13 here.
A
What the heck can hear you.
C
No, no, no. Agent 0 Tomorrow Vio Nova show.
B
What about him?
C
He back.
A
He back.
C
He back.
A
Like. Like walking around?
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah. More than walking around.
A
What's he doing? Running around. Running around.
C
Playing around.
D
Forwards, backwards, sideways, stopping all the way. Starting hitting.
C
Oh, hit down left, right.
B
Hey, hey, hey.
C
Demario Nova stream, ladies and gentlemen has been officially activated from injured.
D
Indie face. I like those words.
C
Right there it is so the. The Cowboys potential superstar linebacker. He is back from his torn ACL that he suffered last season. And it was just devastating in and of itself. But then when you look at what he came from as far as the first torn acl which was non contact, he was just lights out for the Cowboys a human highlight reel before he got his. His up opposite knee rolled up on by align in that tour that acl. But he is back. He's back to business. So he will. He will be on the field against the Las Vegas Raiders on prime time. Would you like to bet on that?
A
Yes. More good news.
C
More good news.
A
Yes.
C
So we did linebackers. So how about a secondary?
A
Yeah, what about that?
C
Okay. Rookie third round picks of own Rebel.
A
Sounds familiar.
C
Yeah. He's also officially activated from injured reserve by the Dallas Cowboys. Yes.
D
Drinking it in over there.
C
Yes. Rebel is in business.
B
What's Rebel in the moment? That needs to be a headline by the way.
C
Does need to be. Can we make that happen maybe for the no cuz over shown over overshadows.
A
Oh no, don't do that.
D
I like Rebel in the moment. I like Rebel in the moment.
C
No, seriously man. All. All jokes aside, these two young men have overcome and. And for those that I know a lot of NFL fans, they're so used to hearing the. The. The phrase torn ACL and they understand how. How bad of an injury that is. But because they. They hear it so frequently unfortunately that I believe it diminishes a little bit as far as when a fan hears it. But And Isaiah can in a test when it comes to recovering from one of those things, it's. It's a pretty big damn deal. So. Shouts out to Sivone Revel and DeMarvio Nova shown they are back and ready to go. Now we talked about this yesterday Isaiah. We know that it's barring anything weird happening this week, knock on all the wood. Overshown is concrete. He is playing against the Raiders. But recent comments from Stephen Jones to 1053 the fan indicate that Revel may or may not be unleashed On Monday.
B
This is no indication of whether one.
C
Way or the other. Yeah, there's. This is not because there's been any kind of setback. This is because they're take for so many fans that are saying, oh, we're hoping they're not rushing him back. Do you see what they're doing? Yeah, he suffered the torn ACL 14 months ago and after now activating him, they're still saying we want to make sure you're good, good, good before we put you on that field. So Stephen Jones told the fan, he said, we'll see, quote unquote, we'll see how this week plays out. And if we believe Rebel can help us win against the Raiders, then he'll be activated and if not, then he'll be inactive.
D
And that should tell you all you need to know about their confidence in over shown returning to the field on Monday night. That's how confident they are. I know a lot of people are concerned about it, even how the the season's going, the record that it's like, okay, maybe just save them for. No, they feel really confident and they wouldn't put him out there without being 100% confident.
C
You know what helps your secondary?
A
What's that?
C
Quinn Williams.
A
Who's that?
C
That guy's going to make a oh on Monday. There's a lot going on. Oh, there's a lot going on. You got Logan Wilson, you got Quinn and Williams. You got the Marvian over show or.
D
Potential four new faces on defense.
A
Four potentially new faces on defense.
C
Yeah.
D
How many guys are on defense?
C
On L.
D
How do you spell that.
C
Would be the fifth cop E L U M One of the El. So yeah. So how you feeling, Isaiah?
A
I feel pretty doggone good. You guys know last time I was here we were talking about the guy Q Dub. Yeah, I was pretty excited about that. I also am now excited about this Logan fellow. What do you know, I like his.
B
Cerebral aspect that he has.
A
I think that he is a very intelligent individual. When you listen to him talk, when you listen to how he approaches the game and then you go up and you watch a little bit of film, you understand the move, right? Originally I didn't understand the move.
B
And, and, and your criticism of him was he just more than anything different than what you already have in the linebacking, you change your tune. And remember when I, when I came back the day after we had talked about it after not watching him in Cincinnati, watched a little bit of film and I said, I think he brings something else.
A
Yeah.
B
Have you seen the same thing.
A
I have seen it, but it's also what you don't see. And I truly believe that he is a highly intelligent individual. And that's not to say that other guys aren't, but there's levels to everything. Let's be hon honest. I think that he conducts himself as a leader, which makes sense as to why he was wearing a C on his chest. I think that he prepares lights out, which is why I understand now the comparison to some previous linebackers that have been in the building that were held in high regard, AKA Lee. So I think that his ability to put guys in the right place and to decipher what offenses are doing to help his guys have a edge and help his guys have a early step. I like that. I like that move for this defense from that perspective. Not even just the physicality, like I'm taking the physical out of it. Right. I think that physically we have probably one of the more athletic linebacker rooms in the league. So I'm not taking. I'm taking that out of it. How can he help this defense get an edge? By his preparation.
C
Right.
A
And. And the expectation now as you start to see what this front office is doing, whether it's for this year, people are talking about it for next year. I don't really give a dog on what. How you want to look at it. You have a Kenny Clark who's regarded as a very important person on the field and a leader. You have a Quinn and Williams who's a leader and. And works his tail off both on the field and weight room and in the film room. Then you have a OSA that you already rewarded. Right. Again, high character guy works his butt off in all the elements. Solomon Thomas, high character guy works his butt like, you know what I'm saying? You see what I'm getting at there.
D
And then behind a bit of a trend there.
A
There's a trend going on here. Okay. And then you add a Logan Wilson to it.
C
Okay.
A
Somebody who's gonna. Again, where's the seat on his chest. Highly intelligent, all these things. The maturity level that this defense is starting to transform into. I like that direction because with that when you start are inputting these individuals that are all highly regarded for their physical attributes, highly regarded for their preparation, highly regarded for their physicality and the impact to the on the game. And you now start accumulating those guys, those stones per se. There's an expectation level that's now raised. There's an accountability level for that entire defense that's now raised. Yeah. So If I am of the sort that I don't put in that kind of work or I don't understand what hard work and preparation looks like, you're about to. I now will see what that looks.
D
Like, and I have the evidence in front.
A
I compare it to my transition from Dallas to New England. No disrespect. Dallas had their way of going about things, which was, you know, highly competitive. We went 13 and three my first year, all those things. But then when I went to New England, Belichickian, I thought I knew what preparation looked like right. In my head. I've been on a successful team with the Cowboys. A lot of talent. Right. Hard working, everybody's doing their thing. That's my perspective. That's all I understood, aside from college. But then I got there, and my expectations flipped. Literally had to change.
B
Yeah.
A
Because of my environment. My environment changed, and the people in my environment had substantially higher expectations, substantially higher work ethics, essentially, higher preparation. So I had to adjust, and I had to adapt. And I believe that that's what this front office is doing on that side of the ball. And I like the direction they're going.
B
And they're building through the interior of your defense, too. You've got playmates like those words, the spine of your defense. Right. Which we've talked about so many times.
C
So spine.
B
Now it does. It has a spine. It has a backbone, a little bit to build from. I agree. I agree. We. We've had this conversation before. Stop looking at me. I, I, I am happy with what happened.
A
Nate, you hear this?
B
I'm so happy.
A
Nate. Dude, are you hearing this right now?
B
But it's, it's not just Quinn and Williams. It's the, the combination of a middle linebacker and Quinn and Williams. I wish they would have had a safety to kind of complete that tree all the way up to the top still. I wish that would have been the one extra spot.
C
Go sign one.
B
And you could go sign one Real quickly before we take our first break. There was a bad news in there.
C
Oh, the perfect segue to the safety. Did you do that?
B
Actually, yes, I did.
C
Oh.
A
It takes.
C
And I have a question. Yeah. Speaking to the safeties, they're in, they're in trouble because one year, Thomas was moved to the reserve list because the migraines are back. So he, he returned in week nine, and he played in that game, but they, they returned during the bye week, and so much so that they've shut him down at least four weeks. And now there's. There's very real Concern as far as potentially this being season ending. We just gonna have to wait and see how it goes. We're gonna have to wait and see how it goes. Malik Donald's not back yet, Wanye, but Stephen Jones did kind of throw out there that Malik Hooker might be back this week, even though his window hasn't been open yet. So. But nonetheless, safeties are in dire straits because one ye is definitely down. I have to go sign or at least you Justin, who's available? Just in. Yeah, just in. Justin Simmons is available. That's one. So just, you know.
A
He signed the Steelers practice squad.
C
He signed yesterday.
A
But he's a strong though. Yes. No.
C
Hybrid. I'll give him hybrid.
D
You need safeties, period.
C
Yeah, I mean, well, now we're talking bigger question.
B
I mean, is Ready Stewart a safety? Because that's what he was playing out there.
A
Before we go to break, what has to happen to the roster, the active roster now that you're bringing on Rebel and Overshaw?
C
I don't know how the. How the NFL and the Cowboys are going to handle Marshawn's spot. We don't know if they're going to give them a roster exemption or not because you're bringing on Revel and always shown effective as of yesterday, one yay is the minus one. So you got a plus two, minus one. And you have that glaring hole that you're talking about. So I don't have an.
A
So you might not have to do anything depending on.
C
You may not. If they give them a roster exemption, then nothing, nothing additional would need to happen.
A
Gotcha.
B
Yeah. I don't know where and I think the last time was it Sean Taylor was the last active player. Now it's probably happened.
A
It's definitely happening. Unfortunately, it's happened.
B
Yeah, but it is. It's kind of. It's up to NFL rules and I haven't.
A
I can't foresee them not giving out exemptions.
B
That's what I would think. All right, let's take our first break. When we come back, Isaiah's back in the building. You know what that means. It's time for a little QB vision. I like that coffee. So do I. Oh, got 300 milli bajillions and Isaiah. You know what? Here's the thing. I know you're my brother. I know you've got a great segment coming up. I've got one for you, too.
C
Oh, hey, before you do the segment, ASMR ready?
B
Here we go. This is going into a little bit of QB vision. Ready? Three, two, one. Beamer, go ahead and fire it up, sir.
C
So gratifying. It's not working. Oh, no.
B
It's time for some creepy vision. I don't know why I went in. It's time for QB vision with Isaiah. Stand back, guys.
C
Week 11 is upon us.
A
He was kind of stoked about this one.
B
You were stoked about it?
A
I'm stoked.
D
He's rightfully stoked.
A
How can I say this?
B
This is before.
D
Say it, Isaiah. Say it with your chest.
A
Get a little sippy sip of this black rag for the 300 milligrams.
C
300?
B
That's a lot.
A
Listen, how can I say this politely?
B
Say it with your chest.
A
This Raiders defense is trash.
D
Oh, words.
C
Oh, okay.
A
It's the most simplistic defense I've ever seen. Oh, my goodness. This is very simple. I. I don't.
C
Somebody's going to see your glazing.
A
Listen here, you guys know I keep it 100 around here. Petty. I keep it.
C
Okay.
A
You are so. I like it. I appreciate your pettiness, okay. Because it's still factual. We always keep it real with you guys here on Talking Cowboys.
B
True.
A
You guys can never say that we lied to you. You can never say that we misled you. Whether you like the way that it sounds, the real is there. The real is this defense is trash. And the Dallas Cowboys don't score 44 points. And I have concerns about our offense, this defense. There's nothing to really talk about, Kyle. I'm sorry. I've watched multiple games. They run two coverages. Cover three, cover one, cover three, cover one. They'll show two high safeties. The safety that does not backpedal, let me tell you what, he's the one that's dropping. There's one safety that will immediately backpedal if they show too high. The other safety just literally stands still at the snap of the ball. He is your down safety. He is your flat defender, right? Your hook defender. In the. In the COVID three defense. This is a bend but don't break type of defense. But they really can't not break because there's only one safety. Their linebackers and underneath defenders get a lot of depth. So they really want to play the slow drip game. Right? They want you to take the Five yards. We've seen this somewhere before over the past few weeks. They. We saw it against Arizona.
B
Yeah.
A
Yes. But Arizona had two high safeties.
C
Right.
A
So they made it very difficult to not get over the top. Dallas does a really good job of doing what? Taking CD Lamb? Taking George Pickens? Running over routes, maybe per se. Those over routes typically find a hole in the single high safety zones. How does the Raiders combat that? Oh, well, they take a linebacker and they match one of your. One of your receivers or tight ends. So they'll run cover three, one safety, deep corners on the outside playing thirds, one third, one third, one third of the field. Those guys, those three guys are responsible for the deep thirds of their portions. And 53 and a half yards of width of field. It's not a lot of guys to cover all that field. But they take their middle linebacker or one of their other flat defenders and they'll turn and match you if you're trying to run across the field. So middle linebackers is usually unathletic guys. Correct. Outside linebackers usually are semi athletic, but they don't usually live in the realm of past 12 yards.
B
Yeah.
A
So you know, how do. What do they do about that? Somebody who's 147 years old and still playing. Where's number 33 for them? Named Jamal Adams. Is at the linebacker level. Said.
B
How old?
A
147. He plays linebacker. That chicks out line backer for the Las Vegas Raiders. He's listening as a safety. Play linebacker, guys. So don't be surprised if you see Jamal Adams in there.
B
He's only 30.
A
Hey. He's been around the league since he.
B
Feels like 16 covering his.
A
Yeah, he's been around 16 years old. I swear he went in the league like LeBron.
B
Yeah.
A
So he's been around the league for a very long time. He's a box safety.
B
We've.
A
Everybody who's ever talked about him has called him a box safety and now he's literally in a box playing linebacker.
B
They said get it? Get it.
A
Yeah. So he's that. So don't be surprised if you see a 33 in there. He's not a true linebacker, but he's a he. He's a sure tackler. He always has been a sure tackler. He's more of a hitter than he is a tackler. He wants to thump you, but they'll use him to cover to match some of your underneath routes if. Or your routes that are trying to go across the middle. They have a dude obviously on the defensive line that you have to respect.
D
He's one of the best in the league.
A
And Max Crosby. I have to mention his name.
B
Of course.
C
Animal.
A
Yeah, they. So the players that I would highlight. There's two. Okay. It's Max Crosby, which we all know. And if you don't know, then you probably don't watch football. But number 98, he's one of the top three defensive ends in the league. He just Mad Maxed. His name is Mad Max for a reason, by the way. That's what.
B
Yeah, I thought he said 93.
A
Oh, my bad.
B
I miss her. You're good. My bad. Apologies. Sorry, sorry.
A
So Mad Max is a dominant player. I. I give all the respect to him.
D
He.
A
He is as dominant of a pass rusher that's out there. He has the motor of a Solomon Thomas, probably times two. Somehow he just doesn't stop.
B
Yeah.
A
So I have nothing but the highest of regards.
D
Relentless.
A
Yeah, relentless. There's a reason why you heard his name and potential trade talks. Everybody and their mama was trying to get him because he changes your defense. With that said, they're. They're underutilizing him. I'll say that that way. Yeah, they're underutilizing him. He is. Has not been as dominant as he can be. He's been more dominant in the running game than he's been in the passing game. Okay. So if that goes for anything, he usually is get locked up with a tackle or tight end. He usually sheds that person. He usually jumps and grabs a guy, swings his legs around, gets a tackle. Doesn't look like much because he's in a cloud of dust, but he's making those tackles. The only other person that I would really highlight is somebody who plays with a chip on his shoulder. And don't try to dap him up in the middle of the game. Don't try to show him no love. He literally wants to rip your face off. And he's been around the league for a while as well. His name is Devin white, linebacker number 45.
B
Okay.
A
I have a high regard for him as well.
D
Super bowl champion.
A
Very much so. What I think about what a linebacker looks like and acts like in the. The. The charisma and the character of a linebacker, like, aura. That's him. Like, that's in a. In my eyes, that's the embodiment of a linebacker tracker. Like, don't talk to me. I just want to hit you. Yeah, right. Like. And you see it all the time. He doesn't stop. He runs. He hits. He's very physical. So those two, Crosby at the defenseman in position, Devin White at the second level, those are your guys you have to be concerned about. Jamal Adams is. Is going to be in there. I'm looking at it now. He's listed as a Sam, linebacker. Whatever. Okay. Outside of that, y', all, I'm respectfully, Respectfully. There's not much like it's. It's really lineup. We're going to run these same plays over and over again because we feel like we can communicate well on defense. We feel like we could pass off coverage. We feel like if we play this game, you're going to get greedy and try to take a shot and hopefully we can take advantage of it. Yeah. But it's literally the most simplistic defense that we've seen this year.
B
One guy that I do want to highlight that I thought looked good on film. It's. It's kind of forgotten in this because of everything that's kind of played out with the Raiders specifically.
C
Say the name.
B
I'm thinking it's one of your dogs. His name is Eric Stokes. He's a corner this year. He's been put on some tough coverage situations.
D
Absolutely.
B
And I think he's done a pretty nice job across the board. He did allow a touchdown last week against Denver. The one touchdown in that entire game, really On Thursday night against Denver. He did allow the one touchdown there. So that wasn't great. But outside of that. And I went back to look at his other numbers because I only watched the Denver game and I watched the Jacksonville game, the last two for. For Las Vegas, and I wanted to see where his number stacked up. 15 receptions allowed this year on 25 targets. And he had not allowed a touchdown all year until the Denver game. And so I think he's playing pretty well despite being placed in a tough situation, like you said, where they're allowing receptions underneath. He's the one guy in their secondary that has not been.
D
He ranks relatively high as far as pass coverage goes, but the one knock on him so far this season is.
B
His tackling, like, which is probably fair.
C
That's always been his red flag.
D
Yeah, that hasn't been there. Another name, obviously talking about Devin White, I think he's. He or he deserves more respect than he's got. He signed a one year, 1.2 million.
B
Dollar contract almost vet minimum.
A
Crazy.
D
That is a Super bowl champion, which.
A
Means he's available next year and he's.
D
Doing so much for that team. He's doing his best, obviously, but he's a dog for Sure. A guy that I was curious about when I was looking at it. First round pick, former first round pick, 2013 or sorry, 2023. Tyree Wilson. Oh, now, you'd expect the defensive line around Max Crossy to be cleaning up, but they are simply not. You're not seeing any stats along the defensive line. Their interior defensive line. Sorry, guys, it's not very good. No, no, it's not very good. And I don't mean to be disrespectful by any means, but Tyree Wilson is a guy that they expected as a first round pick. I think picked seventh overall. They expected a lot of things from Kyle. What was your evaluation of Tyree?
B
I loved Tyree Wilson. That was a big draft miss for me. I thought he was a top four player.
D
Are you saying bust?
B
Huh?
D
Are you saying bust?
B
Absolutely.
C
Wow.
B
He just. He just doesn't have it. And it was pretty apparent right off the bat. I don't know what changed from his time in Tech to moving into the NFL, but it just never clicked. It just never worked out.
D
And so you liked him before?
B
Oh, man, I loved him out of college. That's why I was talking with Tommy off the air the other day. There's a Texas Tech edge rusher right now that's really good and we'll talk more.
D
You're like, I can't trust it.
A
No, for real.
B
And you're taught not to scout the helmet, but every time I look at him, I'm like, no, it's David Tyree.
C
Michigan helmets.
B
Exactly. It's the same thing again. But you can't do that in the Texas Tech. Current edge rusher deserves all the credit. Tyree Wilson, man, it's just not worked out there. I thought he would be a perfect compliment. A developmental player that could be a starter immediately and turn into a compliment from Max Crosby. That just never happens.
D
He just doesn't have it. That's a whiff for sure.
B
Yeah, it's.
D
And he's a guy that you really don't necessarily need to account for. Like I said, outside of Max Crosby, that defensive line is not very good.
B
What? Kayvon Thibodeau is now for the Giants, where he started immediately, but it was kind of meh right off the jump. And lack of production to start now is turning into a game record type of edge rusher. That's what I expected David Tyree to be. And he's not on the same trajectory. Trajectory at all. No.
D
And it's two years in. Granted, there's more time, obviously, but it's just. You're not seeing it right now.
C
Well, I'll make a couple. A couple of points. 1. When it comes to Eric Stokes. Go Dogs. One thing I can say is, like you said, he. He has an issue with. With wrapping up and getting. Getting his arm and getting tackles. Basically.
D
Coverage is great.
C
Yeah.
A
Coverage is unwilling or unable.
C
Oh, I don't think that he's unwilling. I think that. Can you say.
A
Absolutely.
C
Yeah, you can.
A
Can.
C
I think his. Since his days at Georgia, through his days at Georgia. One thing that I picked up on with him is it's. It's technical with him. Right. It's functional with him. Just something about he's just not the best at breaking down and driving through his tackles. The effort is certainly there. It's just that part of his game may not ever be a strong suit for him.
A
So, like when just for example, some corners that are currently playing that do a really good job at that. Daron Bland for your Dallas Cowboys does a really good job of dropping his hips, setting his feet and driving through Jalen Ramsey, corner slash safety, however you want to look at him, he does a really good job of dropping his. Dropping his weight, driving his hips. So those are guys that are willing and capable of doing it. And then you got guys like for instance, back in the day, Nayshaan right here wasn't. It wasn't necessarily willing. Israel Muku wasn't necessarily willing. I think all people are capable. That's the willing part that Stokes is.
C
Stokes is definitely willing. It's just, again, it might never be his strong suit. And that's not what got him to the league. We got him to the league is his coverage skill, which, you know, to Kyle's point, this was the touchdown that he allowed against Denver, was his first allowed touchdown this season. So he's scrappy. He's excellent in coverage. And I say all of that to say what I'm about to say in that it won't matter.
D
I like those.
C
Love you, Eric, but it won't matter. I like those words because of who you're going against. Number one. It's. He's the bright spot in their secondary.
A
Yeah.
C
Yeah. But as bright as the bright spot is in their secondary being Eric Stokes, it's not as bright as George Pickin's bright spot. But then there's also the other brighter spot.
B
Who is that?
C
CD Lamb there. You can't be in two places at one time.
A
Off of a buy, off of a.
C
Off of a buy. So not only can Stokes not be in two places at one time, but the one place that he needs to be in at any given point in time, he's. He's outmatched. Can't win with him. So there's that. And then when you talk about the, the middle of the Raiders defense, when you, like you said, Jamal Adams, linebacker, when the more you say Jamal Adams, the more I keep hearkening to fans asking me, you know, no, see, what does Jake Ferguson need to do to get back on track? Jamal Adams.
A
Yep.
D
Square up.
C
Yeah, square up. Be on the field against Jamal Adams because there's something about that matchup that really lights a fire in Jake Ferguson. And if you don't remember, please, by all means, go back and look at the last time Jamal Adams and Jake Ferguson played here at AT T Stadium. And Jamal got sunned. Basically.
D
He didn't want the gravy from that big.
C
Yeah, Jake Ferguson was out there. Just, just little boy, white gravy.
D
Right?
C
If. If you're using. If you're the Raiders and you're using Jamal Adams in any type of. Of coverage capacity at all, whether it be box safety or linebacker, that means he's going to have to, you know, drag against Jake Ferguson. And I'm taking Fergie every day of the week against Jamal, so.
D
And it's on the run now, too. Talking about how Jake Ferguson can kind of get back into rhythm. That is it.
B
Which is what we're going to talk about purpose after the break here on Talk. I love it, by the way. Shout out to Charlie. I didn't even realize I said David Tyree. Yeah, and I said it twice. The helmet catch. No, Tyree Wilson is the edge rusher that I was talking about. He said, lol, not Kyle slipping up and saying David Tyree. And then I said it again. My bad, guys. It's early in the morning. The caffeine from Black Rifle Coffee hasn't kicked in quite yet. We'll be right back with more talking Cowboys. Y' all need to hit your boy up. You feel me?
B
You feel me? Isaiah, stand back. Josh Rodriguez. Patrick no see Walker, Chris Beam in the back. All right, Patrick, you set it up, you tossed it up. You got it. Ready to knock it out of the park? Yeah. Hey. Okay, I see you coming, you know.
A
Yeah.
B
You weren't familiar. Yeah.
A
Yeah.
B
The offense.
C
Yes.
B
Jake Ferguson.
C
Yes.
B
How do you get him back on track?
C
Well, like I said, first and foremost, he's gonna, you know, look across that line. He's going to see Jamal Adams and he's going to get fired up because those two guys really, really don't like each other. And I'd say, and I love that because Ferguson is such a competitor that that's the type of stuff that fires him up. So that's 1, 2. You have to take advantage. If you're Brian Schottenheimer, take advantage of those seam Ross. I think this is a game where the seam route between Dak and Jake gets back on track in some. In some way. The Raiders just simply can't and don't defend the seams well. They just don't. So get Ferguson involved that way. Get him in. In situations where he can at least, you know, get some type of Yak. It seems like he's struggled this year with the Yak portion of his game. I've seen him have better Yak seasons than this season.
B
I'm going to get you an accident.
C
Yeah, let me know. Because the eye test says he's struggling with Yak. This.
B
I. I would agree with you. I just. I'm curious what the.
D
The number.
C
Yeah. So get him in situations where he can, you know, make a move or two after the play, but nonetheless attack the seam. Attack, Attack, Attack it. And that's also going to play into the other thing, which is the Cowboys need to get their run game established and they can against this defensive front. But if you're dragging linebackers out of the middle of the field on seam routes and, and underneath some things like that, that should inherently open. Well, you're hoping that your offensive line opens up lanes for Javonte Williams. So then once he gets at the second level, guess who's not there? The linebacker. Because where are they? They're chasing Jake Ferguson and maybe Kevonte Turpin and whoever else you might have underneath.
D
I may need to be a little schooled on this one because I don't feel like the seam throw has been there necessarily for Dak this year. Like, I obviously think it was there.
A
He just missed.
B
Yeah, yeah, It's.
D
It's been improved. He's been improved overall. I mean, he's playing the best football of his career.
C
Yeah, but he was seemed. God.
D
He was seam God before this, and I'm just not seeing it connect very well so far this season. But if that's different, please let me know.
C
Well, I, I think a couple things going to. That. I think you're right, but I think with the context of he's. His guys have dropped a couple of those.
A
Yeah.
C
You know, so if they bring in a couple of those. I know Scoon had a drop a Ferg, a couple of those that he could have brought in, and I think two or maybe all three of those could have been touchdowns. So if they catch. If they catch those passes, then maybe you feel differently. It's a different conversation. But in all, I do feel like they're attacking the seamless, but I think they're attacking the seamless because there have been some drops.
D
It's definitely been less prominent.
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
B
I've got a. I've got a number for here. Jake Ferguson. Isaiah, what do you like to call Jake on our pregame coverage?
A
Mr. Five Yards.
B
You like to call him Mr. Five Yards. His yards per reception this year is 6.9. 6.9.
D
So that's 69.
B
Yeah, that. That rates dead last out of tight ends that have at least 50 targets this year. Now, the yards after the catch, which is a point that Patrick was bringing up, is 3.7. Out of the 19 tight ends who have had at least that number of targets this year, he ranks 16th. So you're right, the yards after the catch are about half of what he's been given.
A
Right.
B
But at least on average. But it's not necessarily he's knocking it out of the park in either one of those categories as he continues to try and find a role on this offense, but continue doing what he's doing.
C
I just remember, you know, coming into the season, when you look at Jake Ferguson's body of work pre injury. Right. So last year he had the concussion, he had the sprained knee. But prior to those happening, Jake Ferguson would. He would get you some yards after the catch, you know. Right. Whether it be Big Biscuit is in the air with the hurdles or whether it be just kind of running away from guys, he was. He became what the Cowboys were hoping Blake Jarwin would become. Before Blake Jarwin, his career was ended medically. Right. So if you look. Because remember, like the Blake Jarwin, Jason Whitten dynamic, where it's like, Whitten was never going to get you Yak, but he was going to get you that catch. Blake Jarwin would get you the catch less frequently than Jason Whittenwood, but when he got it, he could make a guy miss. So that's one of the reasons I believe that Jake Ferguson was able to overtake Dalton Schultz, because Schultz was not a yet guy. But Jake Ferguson was the more. More athletic yet guy. Yeah, this season, it's just not been there.
B
Yeah.
C
He feels more Jason Whit in this season in that capacity. Stop it. It just in the capacity of, of a, a sure handed guy.
B
Late career Jason.
C
Yeah, yeah, yeah, sure handed.
A
But didn't I say that some time ago? Yeah, you almost slapped me across the table.
C
Slap is a stroll face. But you're right. So again, qualifying it because you qualified yours.
B
A lot of this is qualifying. A lot of this is in the scheme, in the system, so.
C
Agreed. So that's what I mean when you pose the question of, of how can the Cowboys get Jake Ferguson back on track and level him up effective this week, you, you get him not only down the scene so hopefully seam God and that, that connection is back but you put him in situations with the play calling that gets him more so in space as opposed to a five and in where it's just like okay, it's five and in but you know the, the box safety is right there. The, the nickel corner is right there. There is not any move, any room to maneuver. So that's what I mean.
D
Do you think if Brevin Spanford was given those targets in those same routes he would have the same yak at.
C
This point I'm willing to see it, but I think I'm willing to see it at the expense of. I don't think you take away from Jake. I think you figure out.
D
Just a thought experiment.
C
Yeah. And so my answer, I think you figure out what the Brev and Scoon dynamic is. Right. Because some of the targets they're giving to Scoon I think would have been better served for Brevin Spann forward.
A
Maybe.
B
Yeah, I agree.
C
So that's where I stand. I do want to see more Brevin Span for it. I just don't think it has to be at the sacrifice of Jake whom you're trying to get back on track. And we were just talking two, two weeks or so ago, Jay Ferguson was having a career season.
D
Yeah.
C
So I don't think you take away from that. But I do think there's something to be said for Brev having more reps when in a situation where schooling is just struggling.
B
Yeah. All right, that's gonna do it for us here.
A
No, Kyle.
B
Boys, I know we've had so much fun. Time flies when you're having fun.

As always, the team mixes playful banter with deep football insight, dissecting the Xs and Os from both a player and fan’s perspective.
“For those … used to hearing torn ACL, … it diminishes a little bit as far as when a fan hears it. But … when it comes to recovering from one of those things, it’s a pretty big damn deal.” – Patrick (08:36)

– Patrick (34:16–32:53)
On Jake Ferguson’s Role:
“He feels more Jason Witten this season in that capacity. Stop it. It just in the capacity of, of a sure handed guy…late career Jason.” – Patrick w/ Kyle’s agreement (43:48)
