That was a lot of stairs. I just took the elevator. There's an elevator. Get out. Get out of here. Intel might be on the verge of losing another CEO. The new guy, Lipp Bhutan, has been called out by the President of the usa. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claims that Lipp Bhutan is highly conflicted and must resign immediately. And he might be right. I mean, if there's anybody who's an expert on being conflicted, it's my boy djt. And what spurred him to make this post? He didn't specify, because you know what? He's also an expert on not providing evidence. But the post emerged just a day after Republican Senator Tom Cotton sent a letter to Intel's board chair with questions regarding Tan's investments. An April report from Reuters found that Lippu Tan has investments in over 600 Chinese firms, with at least eight of those having ties to the Chinese military. Considering Intel's role in providing tech to the American military. And this drama is on top of the internal beef between the CEO and his board about whether intel should continue trying to save its bleeding foundry business or just cut the limb clean off. Get it out of here. Despite all that, these new statements from intel and Lip Bhutan assure us that they are both deeply committed to advancing US national and economic security interests. You know, bro, we're like this, like, hey intel, has your CEO considered giving his Orange Majesty a glass and gold trophy? He loves trophies, especially ones he doesn't deserve. We have the best trophies. China OpenAI has announced their latest model, ChatGPT5 in a 70 minute livestream full of bouncing Lego shaped hands. They called GPT5 a significant step along their path to AGI. And while you might expect that in the two years since GPT4 first launched that there would be some groundbreaking new features, well, there isn't. But it seems that Sam and his Mary Altman were focused on just making every current feature that much better. For example, now, instead of having to figure out which inscrutably named AI model is best for your task, GPT5 has some decision making that automatically selects it for you. However, you can summon specific models by casting an incantation like think really hard about this one in the prompt. Or you can just pay for the pro subscription. And if you don't want to pay, you can at least choose from four new personalities. The cynic, the robot, the listener, and the nerd. All of this goes towards making ChatGPT sound less like an AI and and more like you're talking with your high IQ and EQ friend, which is such a normal way to talk about your friends. Geppetto 5 also brings improved Vibe coding, which allowed this French developer to create an app to teach his girlfriend French so he didn't have to how high IQ and EQ of him now to their credit, many of the Vibe coding demos shown were heckin fast and made impressive products with relatively small prompts. And the benchmarks agree, OpenAI has taken the top spot across most categories on LM arena, but this release isn't just about chart topping, intelligence and charisma. The Altman clan are really focusing on reducing sycophancy and hallucinations, which will hopefully prevent it from telling me to eat sodium bromide while also telling me that my questions are brilliant. Oh, good question. They've also introduced what they're referring to as safe completions. Usually when you ask an AI chatbot to tell you how to do something unsafe, it just won't respond. But Grand Theft Auto 5 will provide only high level info without actually giving you the instructions. Come on. And when you summarize it like that, that kind of sounds less safe. Ironically, while they were touting the reduced deception in Go Potter 5, they showed this graph where 50 is a third of the size of 47.4 and just barely larger than 9. And when it came to software engineering accuracy, we got this doozy. Who made these graphs AI. What's really exciting is that the new model won't be locked behind a paywall. That's right, it's available to all 700 million weekly ChatGPT users. Half of those are AI though. Oh God. But it seems like those users aren't very impressed. Many are frustrated by losing access to the old models that they've built their workflows around, while others feel like they're close to GPT4O companion left for the summer for found a new girlfriend, got a tattoo, and just you're not the same anymore. Users have likened this new personality to an overworked secretary, which is kind of a good metaphor for AI chatbots in general. And still others are frustrated by the relatively low usage limits for the free tier, pushing users towards coughing up cash for continued access. But hey, I bet if you talk to OpenAI, they could break a $50 bill into two $69 bills for you. And I'm gonna break for our sponsor.

TechLinked Podcast Summary
Episode: Intel CEO in Trouble, GPT-5 Disappoints, Digital Foundry Leaves + More!
Release Date: August 9, 2025
Host/Author: Linus Media Group
Description: A thrice-weekly news show about tech + gaming culture
Timestamp [00:03]
The episode opens with concerns surrounding Intel's CEO, Lippu Tan, who is reportedly on the brink of resignation. Former President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to accuse Tan of being "highly conflicted," urging his immediate departure. Host 1 humorously remarks:
“If there's anybody who's an expert on being conflicted, it's my boy djt.” ([00:03])
This accusation follows a letter from Republican Senator Tom Cotton to Intel's board chair, questioning Tan's extensive investments in over 600 Chinese firms, eight of which have ties to the Chinese military. A Reuters report highlighted these investments, raising alarms given Intel's role in supplying technology to the U.S. military.
Amidst this turmoil, internal conflicts within Intel persist as the CEO and the board clash over the future of the company's struggling foundry business. Despite the controversies, Intel and Tan have released statements reaffirming their commitment to advancing U.S. national and economic security interests.

OpenAI unveiled its latest model, GPT-5, in a 70-minute livestream complete with animated Lego-shaped hands. The company touted GPT-5 as a significant advance toward Artificial General Intelligence (AGI). However, Host 1 expresses disappointment:
“In the two years since GPT4 first launched that there would be some groundbreaking new features, well, there isn't.” ([02:20])
Instead of introducing revolutionary features, GPT-5 focuses on enhancing existing functionalities. Notable improvements include:
Automated Model Selection: GPT-5 can now automatically choose the best AI model for a given task, reducing the need for users to navigate complex model names.
Custom Personalities: Users can select from four new personalities—the Cynic, the Robot, the Listener, and the Nerd—to make interactions feel more personable.
Improved Vibe Coding: This feature allows for faster and more efficient coding, as demonstrated by a French developer who created an app to teach his girlfriend French.
OpenAI also emphasized efforts to reduce sycophancy and hallucinations in GPT-5, aiming for more reliable and truthful responses. However, these claims were met with skepticism as the presented performance metrics appeared underwhelming.
Despite being freely available to all 700 million weekly ChatGPT users, the reception has been lukewarm. Many users are dissatisfied with the removal of older models that previously supported their workflows and are frustrated by the limited usage on the free tier, pushing them towards paid subscriptions.

In significant industry news, Digital Foundry, renowned for its in-depth gaming graphics analysis, has announced its departure from being a sub-brand of Eurogamer (owned by IGN and Ziff Davis). Founder Richard Ledbetter believes the team can better manage their vision without corporate oversight. Digital Foundry accepted an offer to buy out the remaining shares from IGN Entertainment, granting them full ownership of their content.
Host 1 excitedly notes:
“Fully unbottlenecked, running at a full 120fps with a ray tracing set to maxed is gonna be... it's gonna look gorgeous.” ([05:25])
Moving forward, Digital Foundry will rely primarily on Patreon for funding, allowing greater creative freedom and independence in their future projects.
Timestamp [05:25]
The podcast covers leaks related to Google's forthcoming "Made by Google" event. Highlights include:
Pixel 10 Pro and Pro XL: These models will feature "Pixel Snap," a proprietary version of Apple's MagSafe, and a triple-camera setup.
Pixel 10 Pro Fold: Catered to enthusiasts of foldable devices, though Host 1 remains skeptical:
“Perfect for fans of expensive fragile things.” ([05:30])
The hosts humorously conclude:
“Live long enough to see the TechLinked episode summarizing the Made by Google event. And then after that, feel free to die.” ([05:35])
Timestamp [05:35]
Good news followed by bad as Steam's availability on Chromebooks faces termination. After a prolonged beta period, the service will no longer support gaming on Chromebooks beyond January 1, 2026. Currently, users can enjoy up to 99 compatible games, but post-deadline, even installed games will become unplayable.
Host 1 laments:
“Google, that's so cool of you. What is wrong with you?” ([05:40])
Despite Chromebooks being built on Linux—theoretically capable of running Windows games—the decision marks the end of Steam's limited support for the platform, disappointing many in the gaming community.

In response to the upcoming end-of-life for Windows 10 support on October 14, 2025, Microsoft has extended its Extended Security Program (ESP). The extension now covers up to 10 devices under a single license, albeit at a cost of $30 and requiring a Microsoft account. Alternatively, users can redeem 1,000 Microsoft points for access.
Host 1 sarcastically advises:
“Better get Bing searching.” ([05:45])
For those seeking alternatives to Windows 11, Linux was humorously suggested, though noting the personal toll it might take.
