Gun show.
Interviewer 1
Hey, true or false. Can you confirm? I heard a rumor about you.
Amica Insurance Announcer
Huh?
Interviewer 1
You drive a low rider?
John Metchie III
Yeah, that's getting out. I bought a 1968 Chevy C10 here about a month ago. I love it.
Interviewer 1
Does it have the hydraulics or anything?
John Metchie III
It has air ride, so it doesn't like bounce. Like, you know, you see the bounce, but it goes up and down.
Interviewer 2
Does it change when you get a couple of them offensive linemen in there with you?
Carl's Jr. Announcer
No.
John Metchie III
Yeah, yeah. You gotta like.
Interviewer 1
And if.
John Metchie III
So if I'm on the left and if somebody's heavy on the right, you gotta, like, push it up even more.
Interviewer 1
Yeah, yeah.
John Metchie III
It's real. You gotta take.
Interviewer 2
Why you keep looking at me? Hey, man, big year.
Interviewer 1
I mean, big.
Interviewer 2
It's funny, it's like the calm before the storm. We're going through our list, and all of a sudden the infamous photo comes out. John Mateer. And it's gone around. We've had some fun with it. But I gotta ask you, you got. You got a new room, man. You got some quarter, you got some wide receivers coming in. What are some things that you're doing with those guys? Kind of getting acclimated.
John Metchie III
A lot of it is, you know, we got some new transfers and tight ends and everything. You just got to spend time with them. You got to get to know them, you know. But a lot of it is we've went through and watched Trail's film Rocky, and all the other guys like their film from last year. You sit down with them and you talk with them, or you think, you hear. Because I think it's a lot about familiarity. Football is a pattern game. So you watch as much. You know, you watch a lot of film, you get used to the patterns. And I wanted to see what they look like. Running routes, full speed in game, doing different things. And Rocky especially, you know, he's a very creative player. I'll say that. If you watch his film, he just does things. And it's good. I think it'll be real good.
Firestone Auto Care Announcer
But.
John Metchie III
So that is a big piece, talking football with these guys, because I'm big on, like, we will do a rack, go to the sideline. What were you thinking? Because I was thinking this. And if they Give them what you were thinking back to me, because, one, I hope you were really thinking about it while you did it, which most of them are. And then two, like, if the more we talk and we be on the same page, like, it is huge, because in the moment, we really need it. You know exactly what I'm thinking. And so that. But they've been great. They are. They're real good at it.
Interviewer 1
Hey, what surprised you more last season? The fact that apparently you had an interaction with a Chipotle guy and that went viral, or that Dr. Shin became like a. A hero in the state of Oklahoma? I mean, that. Which one surprised you more?
John Metchie III
Chipotle surprised me more. I kind of trusted the guy. I was kind of disappointed. I really was. Because, you know, there's so much going on. I kind of just. I'm at Chipotle. This guy's asking, you know, seem, you know, I'm asking how I'm doing, and I'm like, oh, yeah, I'm good. You know, kind of wanted to just chat with somebody that wasn't in. And then it kind of. Yeah, that one kind of sucked. The Dr. Shin, he deserves every bit of that. He is. He didn't want that. You know, he. But he is amazing. And I. I mean, I could say so many good things. I appreciate him so much.
Interviewer 1
I mean, that's just the most SEC thing ever, though. I mean, Sooner fans were tracking down
John Metchie III
Dr. Shin in his office. I mean, it was when he came to a game, and he was. I was like, dude, you need to wear a hat. He's like, no, I'm good. I said, I promise you need to wear a hat. He walks into the tunnel. Student section. I told you. Like, you didn't believe me. Yeah.
Interviewer 2
Oh, man. Well, you're. You're becoming Sooner legend. And, you know, one thing, we covered SEC for a long time, but Oklahoma just last couple of years, but we're learning more and more every single season. So has there been any of maybe legacies that you've been around that you're just like, I don't know, maybe stage fright or, you know, just like, holy shit, I can't believe this guy's here.
John Metchie III
Yeah, well, I haven't been starstruck a whole lot, but Coach now, Coach Jason Whitten was here when his. When his son was a recruit. Oh, yeah. And I grew up in Dallas. It's like, oh, my. I literally didn't know what to say. And now he's my coach, so. And then I'm sitting in there last Wednesday, Tuesday, I was sitting there for an hour just talking. Me, him, and one of their coaches talking, and I'm like, I'm sitting here, you know, I mean, it's so crazy. And then, like, the call from Baker, obviously, on my recruiting, it's a huge story, like, but it's like, like, what are we. You know what I mean? And then Jalen Kyler, I met with Sam Bradford. That kind of went viral. Like, it's like, what am I, you know? Like, God is so good. Like, I'm talking to these. I met Terry Bradshaw two days ago.
Interviewer 1
Wow.
John Metchie III
Terry Bradshaw. Terry freaking Bradshaw. But you know what I mean? It's like, whoa, this is so cool. Like, seriously, it's awesome. Yeah.
Interviewer 1
Which win meant more to you? Beating Alabama. It was the first time they had lost at home under Coach DeBoer. Or Tennessee. The blackout. Which one kind of means more to you?
John Metchie III
Means more Bama. Because they hadn't lost the Home Sec. I think 2019, but cooler. Tennessee, that if. If you can go that Halloween night game. Oh, my. I think I Remember that? I felt like I was in a dream. Like it was so I couldn't think.
Interviewer 2
Some would say not. He was there. You know, I grew up Tennessee Homer.
John Metchie III
Oh, sorry about that. No, no, no, it's a great game.
Interviewer 2
But I was like, I'm like on the opposite end of like 10. Damn, they got us.
Carl's Jr. Announcer
Yeah.
John Metchie III
Oh, it was so cool. Like, so cool.
Interviewer 1
You got a last question, Shane?
Interviewer 2
Well, is there one? I mean, is there a venue or a particular game maybe that you're looking forward to the most? Maybe you got circle venue.
John Metchie III
I mean, all of them are like, you know, we're going work and we're excited for all of them. But to go to a place like Ann Arbor just to let you know the legacy, the long term and then go to Athens, like, just to as a kid to play in those in the sec, like that's so exciting, you know, in the venue. And we're obviously every game is you play the game. But to drive up, like I got to play in some. Cool. I love playing in those places, you know, because it's something new. You know, you just get to experience some new. So the places I'm super excited for
Interviewer 1
and I would imagine Michigan, Texas and then Georgia defenses. Nothing's going to prepare you for the NFL better than that.
John Metchie III
Yeah. Yeah. And then what I practice against every day. That's the ski. Good luck.
Interviewer 2
That's a damn team. I gotta ask you one because you got some monsters on that side the football. If you're going down a dark alley and you got to take one bad dude with you, who is it?
John Metchie III
Yeah. The size matter or just mind?
Interviewer 2
No, just. You need a fighter, man.
John Metchie III
Kip. Kip. Him on game day is. And that's not because there's not other guys. Kip on. Kip during the week. Chilling.
Carl's Jr. Announcer
Yeah.
John Metchie III
Kip on game day. Diff.
Interviewer 2
Just an animal.
John Metchie III
It's like, where did you come from? It's awesome. Like he is. Yeah, I love him too. Oh, yeah.
Interviewer 2
Thank you for so much.
John Metchie III
Yes. Thank you guys. It's fun.
Interviewer 1
Good luck.
John Metchie III
Thank you, Sam.
