Well, well, well. Thanks for joining Shane. Welcome in Latest episod. Go by SEC Mike Going to Twitters. I'm the cousin that shows up. Here's the other cousin. What's up, cousin Shade?
Shane
Hey, buddy, what's going on? Oh, sorry. I just learned Hulk Hogan passed. My bad tough time over here at the Cousin Shane residence. But we will, we will survive.
Mike
They heard a younger bidder, Josh Pate is going to join the show tonight. Is that you?
Shane
Not quite there, man. Not quite there. Did hit the gym bright and early this morning, followed up with 18 holes of golf in this 90 degree weather. Figured we'd get that in one last time before college football starts and dude, running on fumes. But that's what you got to do. You got to stay busy. I feel like I'm one of those that just, if I sit around and I'm looking at the Twitters and then I'm, I'm like, this college football season ain't ever gonna start, so try to stay busy. And then next thing you know, you look up and college football's here.
Mike
Josh, plate.
Shane
Josh, eight.
Mike
Well, if you're hungry, Shane.
Shane
Yes, we know where you ought to go.
Mike

So we're talking $45.
Shane

You can't beat it. You can't, man. I mean, seriously, I. I went to the old El Torido. I told you how much I love that place. I spent over $40 on one meal. You're telling me I get 20 burgers for the same price? Hell, man, sign me up. And if you do do it, and you do sign up, be sure to let us know. Send us a picture over on the Twitter and we'll be sure to retweet you.

Let them know the cousin sent you out, telling you not only going to get a bonus gift, and everybody loves a bonus gift, but I love the discount because you can load up right before you head home. Take some to your family, your friends, your co workers. You know, it's always nice when you get off vacation and you're like, hey, look how much fun we had. We got you a bottle of Kingsnake. You know, it's the least we could do for all the entertain we had up there in the Smoky Mountains. They got two spots in. In Sevier County. They got one location in Nashville. And if you ain't getting the Tennessee, that's all right, you can get it sent to you. Go to your package store and say, hey, we got to get some of this on the shelf.
Mike
What I'm talking about.
Shane
Brian didn't like it when I said, hey, you can go the other one if he's moody, but apparently he's still moody, so you may want to go the other one.
Mike
Oh, he's already in here, Shane. Don't speak ill of him.
Shane
Oh, I was joking. I kid.
Mike
Well, sh. I say this often, but it's true. I think it's the best damn mailbag questions we've ever got on this episode. So we'll dive into that in just a moment. But, hey, you know, it's fall camps.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
All across the sec, we haven't had any Sark comments, so I. I saw some that I thought were pretty good, so I wanted to bring us your attention. I know we got a lot of longhorns out there. How do we get the most at all this talent? Our buddy Anwar, he asked this question.
Thumbtack Ad Voice
You have the most, maybe the most intense coaching staffing.
Shane
Member yourself.
Thumbtack Ad Voice
Must, champ. Those are the voices we hear from the sideline.
Mike
That's a lot of testosterone.
Thumbtack Ad Voice
Is that.
Shane
Does that trickle down to you guys? And is it infectious?
Coach or Analyst Guest
I think so. You know, I mean, I think about all of our guys. I was saying today, I took a moment in team period, and I just watched our coaches coach. I was so. I was really impressed, you know, and we're fortunate. We've got a great coaching staff. These guys do a tremendous job in preparation of getting not only the players prepared and ready to go, but themselves, too. And I just think that they. They coach hard, you know, but. But I think they coach out of love. And I think our players understand that it.
Mike
Oh, wait, that was the wrong one. But I meant to play that one too, Shade. So again, that. That kind of goes with it. I'll play the other one in a second. But if you got to get the most out of this talent, you got to coach them hard. And that's why we're bringing in Will Mus Champ. Right? That's what they're all saying. You see this wild man punch a damn dry erase board. He's the best damn defensive mind ever assembled. And when he was back in 2020 09, he was our defensive coordinator. We were unstoppable. So, yeah, it kind of goes hand in hand. But any reaction to Sarkeesian saying, you know, you know, propping up his coaching staff that he's assembled there in Austin?
Shane
Yeah, you know, I did this at work the other day. Just get out there, do your damn job. And it didn't go over so well. Had to go talk to hr. But this is exactly what the Longhorns need, right? I mean, that's what the knock was. Was Texas getting a little too soft? Buddy, you ain't gonna get soft with Must Champ Stoops running around, I tell you right now. And boys are a different breed. And that's. And everything I've seen Champ Co. Looks like Texas is. And that players feel it, right? They feel that emotion on the sideline. They knows what. They know what's expected of them. So I think it was a great addition.
Mike
Oh, okay. And then. So here's the other one. I screwed up the. The order here, but same deal, you know, how do you get the most out of the talent?
Shane
Yeah, of course.
Mike
That's the question. I'll. I'll say my thoughts on the other side.
Coach or Analyst Guest
Healthy, you know, And. And we're not all just kind of living in the wild, wild west.
Mike
When you have a team that's so talented, what's the biggest challenge as far as getting to play as a unit, even though they are talented in your top 20.
Coach or Analyst Guest
I think that's the challenge. I think. Or you answered your own question. I think that's the biggest challenge we have as a coaching staff is to take the talent and get them to play as a team and to be a great team and to understand that they need each other to be as successful as we want to be. And we say it all the time around here, team success is what then provides individual accolades, awards and honors. It doesn't go the other way around. And so I think us playing as a team is, is the, that's the secret sauce, you know, that we got to get right.
Mike
I was a little worried there, Shane. He said, well that's the question, isn't it? Like you're the one who's got to answer it, coach. But I think he recovered there nicely. It's, it's, it can't be about the individuals, right. It's got to be about the team, the collective putting it all together.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Now maybe what does that say, Shane? Maybe they did it last year. Maybe it was a little individual. And, and he's mentioned that before. You know, we had to get the chemistry right, we had to get the camaraderie right. And, and he thought that because it had been good two years prior that that would translate, but maybe not. So, so they've had to put extra emphasis on that this off season. So we'll see if it, if it comes together.
Shane
I agree, man. I mean the, the Nil is great, right. The kids need it. I, I, I feel like this is a, a perfect place for that, especially down there in Austin. But I mean you could you imagine right when you're getting this money based on maybe something you've done transferring in, you know, there's just, there's just that natural knee jerk reaction to say, hey, I'm better than everyone. So I, I feel like though, chemistry is so damn important when you look at some of the best teams that come through college football. At the end of the day man, it's, it's about the team as a unit. And did individual, you know, rewards come out? Indiana, prime example. Did they win a Heisman? Absolutely. Would Mendoza would have won it if they didn't play better as a team? No. So yeah, that's the secret recipe. And I think this is the right words here.
Mike
Oh, shout out. Danny says Shane's gonna have that cash app loaded paying off all these lot list.
Shane
Damn you.
Mike
His words, not Shane's words of course. You know what? Also great news for Texas, Shane. So it's official now, offensive lineman Cole Hudson, the guy that, you know, graduated, exhausted his eligibility, but everybody gets five years now, right? So, yeah, he said goodbye. NFL. Not back in Austin, baby. So it's official now. He started 10 games last season. You know, possibly that's a huge addition because that's their biggest question mark, his offensive line.
Shane
Yes.
Mike
Getting a guy that started and played a ton of football in Austin. Hell, even if he doesn't start, you know, it's not. It's going to be fantastic depth, but he's probably going to start.
Shane
The rich get richer, don't they? We still got to see how it plays out, right? We got. What? Did anything pass. I know Mizzou won a national title today. Today, but did anything else happen?
Mike
I mean, not yet. So it's legal? If it's legal, they're gonna. They're gonna do it, you know, until someone says it's you.
Shane
Congratulations, Mizzou. Well earned. Well earned.
Mike
Oh, not them. I thought. You bet Texas. No, I don't care about mythical bastard championship. Half the SEC's got one, so, you
Shane
know, join the club here. So Z got one. That's good.
Mike
Well, speaking of the eventual national champions, Shane, very quick clip here. Tennessee. Hey, true freshman receiver T.K. keys, number one receiver recruit in the country, huh? Oh, just. Just look at his face light up, Shane, when he's asked about Faison.
Shane
Brandon, obviously you have a good relationship with Faison, for sure. What have you seen in his growth and development, not only as a guy, but as a quarterback, you know? Now, Faison is phenomenal. I mean, he done got so big, so much faster. Like, he moved like a train. At that size, it's crazy, but, like,
Thumbtack Ad Voice
he been ripping the ball. He been hitting the road, running and doing his thing.
Shane
So I'm very proud of him.
Mike
Oh, running like a train, Shane.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
And if you're just listening, guy had the biggest smile he's ever had in his life when asked about Faizal braided. So, I mean, are we gonna. Are we gonna keep. What do they say, footing around? Shane's our quarterback, right?
Shane
We gonna keep playing this charades game? Coach Happle? Now, I maybe a little game and prefer Furman, but. No, I think. I think Faison's our guy, man. And buddy, I brother give him the reps, right? If it is, let's let them have it. And let's. Let's build something special in Knoxville.
Mike
Well, I mean, I don't. I don't think we're at the point where we're worried about reps. Are we. I mean, they're all going to get reps in a. In a camp mode.
Shane
Yeah, no, no, absolutely. They need it with the woods. Right. I mean, you talk about building chemistry. If you're back and forth with quarterbacks, you're losing, you know, first team reps. So. Yeah, I would like to. Absolutely.
Shell Ad Voice
I think you.
Mike
Because I think you got to get George McIntyre ready to go too. Just. I mean, what happens if he comes in here and he shits a bed?
Shane
Now that's crazy talk. That's crazy talk. Listen to that.
Mike
It would be the first time. Would.
Shane
Wouldn't be. It wouldn't be the first time. But I'm not saying 50. 50 here. Right. We can give him a little 5%. You know, he run the ones a little bit. Get. Phase on a little time to get some water on the sideline after. Train. Train rush.
Mike
Yeah. What'd they say? I may be reading way too much into that, but again, I just thought that was an interesting clip. And then the only other thing that noteworthy today, Shane.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
And I don't think this guy will, you know, truly be missed, but Kentucky had to dismiss a receiver. Hardly Gilmore.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
And I can't remember exactly the timeline shape, but this is a guy. I think he commit to Louisville, I think he commit to Purdue, then he commit to Louisville, and then he commit to Kentucky. This via the transfer portal. I. I think. I think it's something like that. It was like three or four teams he commit to. Now he's commit to getting kicked off the team. I don't. I don't know what happened, but violation of team rules is what Will Stein said. So I'm. Will Stein ain't messing around.
Shane
No, you can't. You. You can't afford that cancer in the locker room either, you know, so either y' all in or all out. So I like this. Get him out of here instead of trying to make it work for two or three weeks and then a locker room get divided over some dumb stuff. So. I love this.
Mike
Of course they need a receiver.
Shane
Yeah, they're still waiting for one of those to come back for their fifth year.
Mike
All right, enough of the news. Shane.
Shane
Yes.
Mike
You ready to dive into the mailbag?
Shane
Yes, absolutely.
Mike
Okay, first question. War Eagle, ti. Are y' all gonna do any watch parties this season, particularly week one? What. What's. Where we at with that, Shane?
Shane
I think we need to. Right. Do we have.
Mike
I just didn't know if. I didn't know if we would be able to. I mean, we got Thursday games We got Friday games. There's just week one. You know, Thursday may be close.
Shane
Wait, what is the other one? Friday. We can't do Friday. Probably won't be due Friday, but definitely Thursday.
Mike
But maybe.
Shane
I mean, I'm not ruling it out, because if I get down there, you know what I'm saying? I'm going to Gainesville. I think it's only like 10 or 11 hours from here, so. Yeah, I. I think it's very possible I just have to watch it from the camper.
Mike
That'd be funny if you were driving down the road watching the game.
Shane
Well, I won't be driving.
Mike
World sign off for that.
Shane
They are. They are, man.
Mike
We get a split screen of you watching a game and you driving.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Like, just the road.
Shane
I never thought I'd get, like, electric vehicle, but I did. I did throw around the Tesla idea. Just because you're able to do that. My Ford, it completely shuts everything down when you start moving. You can't even, like, punch numbers. So that's the dumb thing. But what. Which is good. I probably shouldn't be watching tv, but if the Tesla's driving, you know, so they're starting to win me over a little bit with these. These autonomous. Autonomous vehicles.
Mike
Live from the rv,
Shane
just driving, like, hitting the rumble strips.
Mike
Yeah. All right. So again, I just wanted to throw that out there because he was asking.
Shane
So possibly Thursday. Friday is just up in the air. I don't hate the idea, though, because I'm just ready to watch any college football. I mean, I'll be watching the game, you know, I just may have someone else driving.
Mike
Right, Right. Oh, and as always, you know, throw us a donation if you got a question. Yeah, not. Not something you have to do. Not a requirement, but that way we'll guarantee it. We've got a ton of questions to get to, Shane. Shout out Cousin Strap man. He's an official cousin. Official cousins always get their questions answered. Change. And a lot of these are just for you, Shane. You'll do a great job as a guest picker for college game day. Week three, LSU at Old Miss.
Coach or Analyst Guest
Yeah.
Mike
Would you do it if they asked you?
Shane
Absolutely, without a doubt, I would.
Mike
You be scared?
Shane
No.
Mike
No, I'm scared when you go out. Fine by them.
Shane
You.
Mike
You don't. You wouldn't.
Shane
I get all worked up, but I just get, you know, I'll work, you know, like Tommy boy. Just. I don't know what it is. It just gets me going, but the adrenaline will be pumping. My heart will be going 100 miles an hour. But by gosh, I will definitely love the opportunity to do that.
Mike
That'd be awesome.
Shane
Oh, yeah, it would be. Hottie Toddy. Gosh almighty.
Mike
I guarantee you'd be better than. I mean, let's try to think. Who would they get in Oxford?
Shane
Oh, Katy Perry. Is that still a thing? No, I don't think so. It probably. Who is it? I'm sure they've been on a few times. Some country artist or something out there.
Mike
No disrespect to them, but it would not. It'd be a quarter as entertaining.
Shane
Eli Manning.
Mike
That was okay. He's good. Yeah, I take that back.
Shell Ad Voice
He's good.
Mike
Yeah.
Shane
Eli's good. Yeah. All right, you're benched.
Mike
All right, how about this? One shade from cousin. Surfer dog. Yeah, special cousin here. Shane, do you plan on shotgunning any beers on your road trip at the tails gates? If so, what's your beer of choice to shotgun?
Shane
I haven't signed the lease yet, so, no. But if I was not drive in, it'd be the course. Be the Silver bullet. That's. That's been my go to. For. For a long time now. Now again, I'm not picky when it comes to shotgunning beer. You know, maybe not like a dark one, but. Yeah, some.
Mike
You say that, but you're. You're pretty picky when it comes to beers. I've. I've taken you places.
Shane
Yeah, you take me to like, that's not.
Mike
That's like.
Shane
I don't know what that is. Everything that you get.
Mike
I guarantee you every. They would sit down with me and drink that beer and it would be a good time.
Shane
Oh, I still drank it, but it was, you know, I had them compare it to, you know, domestic beers. Like, what would this be like? And I've kind of gone off that.
Mike
Okay. Shane is living his college years this fall. That's pretty funny. And then surfer dog also asks, hey, Mike, do you plan on going to any games or are Saturdays going to be work days for you? Well, Saturday is always a work day for me, but my plan is to be at the LSU Ole Miss game, week three, September 19th. And the only other one that I'm thinking about going Tennessee, A&M, November 14th. I've always wanted to go down to College Station for a game. So those are the two I have circled. But you never know, I may show up. I was thinking Shane, maybe on the Fridays.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Especially if Paul's down there. Like, maybe I'll Dr. Like for Lexington. I think they're going Week two, I may make it to Friday and then just drive back Saturday morning before the games, you know.
Shane
Yeah, yeah, no, no, that'd be good. And just let me know if I got to pick you up, you know.
Mike
All right, how about this one? This is a fantastic question. I put it in the headline here. Cousin Ashley, we appreciate the question. Out of all the teams with the quarterback competition, who do you think wins the jobs and which one gets benched first? She's already looking to bench people. Ashley, I've got all my answers. Would you like to hear mine first?
Shane
Yes.
Mike
All right, this is going to throw you for a loop here, Shane. Alabama, I'm saying Austin Mack, I think he's going to be the starter. Arkansas, I think it's K.J. jackson. I think that's easy.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Florida, Aaron Philo. I think Tennessee. Faison, Brandon. And then one more wild card chain. Vanderbilt. Give me Blaze Berlowitz. I think he'll be the starting quarterback. And then first benched Blaze. Come on, we gotta get Jared Curtis in there at some point, you know.
Shane
Ah, man, I'm going Curtis as a starter there so far, first bench. I'm trying to just, if there's anything I disagree with, I think Mac will be the first one benched.
Mike
You, you like him? You like him to play?
Shane
I do, I do. Just because the way Kaylin's been talking here lately and I don't know if it'll be necessarily benched. I feel like it will be kind of a back and forth affair that Mac started, you know, but he's no longer involved because this offense would just get elevated when you, when you bring him out. So that's just kind of where I'm at.
Mike
Well, and I want to give this guy credit because it was an excellent point. It kind of swayed me.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Again, we, we talked to Nick Kelly. He's also said, you know, he covers the team and he says keep your eye on Mac as well. But Mike Rodak was just on Fine Bomb and he made a very interesting point that I had not considered. But I do agree with it, Shane, that if you play Austin Mack, guy that's been in the system, this is fourth year now.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
You kind of know what you're getting. And if things go poorly, the move is to put in the younger talented guy that has a higher ceiling. But you can't really do it the other way, can you? Because if you put out the young talented guy with the higher ceiling and then he starts struggling, then you're like, all right, well, let's Go with a more veteran guy.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Now you, you might lose the young guy to the portal, and it's just, it's kind of backwards. You know what I mean? Like, it's like, it's kind of like you're saying the boring. He's kind of steady Eddie. He just want to mix it up. He's going to go with the guy he trusts.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
And if it goes poorly, then you make the move and maybe you could turn the season around and then everybody, then you can point to and say, hey, don't fire me. Yeah, we got this elite quarterback in the works here. You know, what, what do you, what
Shane
do you do in that situation? Can you pull Alabama schedule up real quick? Let's just say things play out just the way you are. I really do think that Alabama's got kind of a slow ramp now. Kentucky could be interesting on the road. South Carolina obviously could be interesting. But I do see a situation where Mac is out there, you know, 75% of the first quarter, but there's a handful of plays he's not. Right. And, and then if that were to happen, what if, you know, they have some success when he's not in there? Is this one of those things? The fans riot until they. Till they get their quarterback?
Mike
Well, I mean, we. Surely to God we're not paying a guy $10 million to listen to the fans what they want at quarterback.
Shane
I'm asking you.
Mike
I mean, high school, Shane, what if
Shane
you, what if you just barely squeak by Florida State? You win, right? You win. Yeah, it's not about that. It's. It's about. I mean, you better believe it. Caitlin DeBoer has been fielding these questions like he's on the damn hot seat. And, and if they squeak by a Florida State team or they barely beat a Kentucky or God forbid, lose to Kentucky, then what are we. What are we doing? Of course he's going to listen. You know, if not the fans, they're gonna. He, you know, he's gonna have some outside influence that are probably, you know, within that locker room, you know, some boosters calling him those. He'll take the, the phone calls from
Mike
Nick Saban would never in his million. Life
Shane
ain't saving, man.
Mike
That's what I've been trying to tell you. You're like, oh, my God, he won a playoff game. He's elite.
Shane
I never said, I never said he was elite. I just said that I feel like if you're a Tide fan and you turn off the noise for a second, you're Content, maybe. Not happy, maybe. You know, you're not naming your kid Kalin. Right. But I, I do feel like there's a part of you that says it could have been worse. We could have hired Jimbo.
Mike
You know, I bet you some of these wild cousins would name their son to boring if they win a national championship.
Shell Ad Voice
For sure.
Shane
Absolutely. Hell, there may be a few premature bastards around there.
Mike
All right, here's another great one. Shane from Nick K. I love his question. Which team makes the playoff first? Florida, Mizzou or South Carolina?
Shane
I think, I think it doesn't have
Mike
to be this year, you know?
Shane
Yeah, I think Mizzou. I think they got their quarterback and it may not be this year like you said, but it's a, it's a guy they can build around. I, I feel like that's the answer. Florida would be my. Probably my second close. The only the way that this gets like toppled is if they do it this year in South Carolina. Right. I'm just, I'm not thinking about next year with South Carolina and I'm not thinking any of these teams win a college football playoff game this year. So which one's going to be more likely to do it? That's why I'm leaning a little more Mizzou here.
Mike
Okay. I'll say Florida. And again, the question is make the playoff. Not win a game, but make the playoff. I'll say Florida, Missouri, then Carolina.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
But if we're saying this year, give me Carolina. Has to be this year. I think it has to be Carolina. Yeah, I think they've, they've got the, they've got the star power.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
You know what I mean?
Shane
Absolutely. It's crazy. You know, actually it was kind of. We had a lot of people talking about it many days there. I, I think that they, I have them as a bubble team, so a couple of games that maybe their underdogs go their way. Yeah, South Carolina is definitely in the mix. So if anybody's to do it this year, I've got South Carolina. If they don't, South Carolina doesn't do it. Give me Mizzou.
Mike
Hey, shout out, Christy Aggie. Aggies got a six star receivers. Got six star. Oh, six. I guess he's not saying six star. Six, six star receivers. TU has two. They're eight and four. Oh, eight and four for table Coming
Shane
from A and M.
Mike
By, by, by. How have tables? You know,
Shane
nothing says hating four like the Texas Longhorns, does it?
Mike
I feel like Texas got more. I think they've got more than Two five stars receivers.
Shane
It seems like it.
Mike
I'm pretty sure they do this week. But yeah, maybe, maybe he's just saying Wingo and Cam Coleman but they, they've got some young guys that are coming up too. Hey, how about this one from turf dude, what's the chance Tennessee has an explosive offense with a freshman quarterback.
Shane
High probability.
Mike
Josh Hypo knows explosive offenses.
Shane
Right. They're so damn happy. They're just so damn happy up there in Knoxville. Everything, everything is just falling in place except for you know, linebacker situation. But that'll be fine in Kennesaw, I think brother. I think it's going to be fun. I think Tennessee gets back to 22 Hinden hooker era.
Mike
Oh, I wouldn't go there quite that far.
Shane
I know that's what I do.
Mike
That's a bit rich.
Shane
It's a loaded, it's a loaded wide receiver room. I love Faison. I just feel like he's the one that can make this offense truly hum. And oh yeah, they got one of the if not the best running back in the country right now behind an experienced offensive line. So just offensively Tennessee could be pretty damn fun to watch this year.
Mike
And then I, I never knew until today. Shane, I guess Liquid your burner sounds like you from yesterday. The boring. What A playoff game. His first season at bay. First. Wait, in his first, not his first version. Second season, second season. Yeah but I mean that's, that's fantastic. That that ain't cutting it at Alabama 11 playoff win in two years.
Shane
So I, I, I hate when you do that. I hate when you do it. I think Caleb. Because again not a lot of SEC coaches, current SEC coaches have done that. I mean they can't say that but
Mike
it's funny how we three of them can say that.
Shane
It's funny how we could sit here and say how great you know, John Sumrall is. You know he hasn't won a playoff game, you know or goal ish or who's some of these other guys you love? Lane Kiffin even. Good God. Lane Kiffin's on the top of everybody's coaching board. Hasn't won a playoff game. Kalyn Bore has.
Mike
They can have them. Shane. They are struggling, buddy. Struggling shout out because of Derek. Biggest positive this season. Shane's RV road trip. Biggest disappointment. Shane's crew trying to get yeah. To his obligations on time.
Shane
That's true. That's true. I'm gonna have to learn the time zones too because not, not everything's American time.
Mike
So I'm telling You. Once you start living Central time, you will never want to go back East. Sucks.
Shane
Eastern sucks.
Mike
I don't know.
Shane
It's all I know, man.
Mike
Games. The games are late.
Shane
The wife got mad. They're. They're voting the daylight savings time. She was hoping that it gets switched so that it would just stay the same time year round.
Mike
Oh, they didn't do it?
Shane
No, I don't think so. I don't think that's going to pass. Which fall forward? I. I don't know. I'm kind of good with this one. You know, it's a spring that kind of sucks.
Mike
Hey. All right, Shade. Another fantastic question. I can't believe how good these, these cousins are getting at these questions. Yeah, Shout out Swamp and by you.
Shane
Nice name.
Mike
Interesting name choice considering the question here. Which SEC team will have the most in packed fan base this year?
Shane
Wait, packed fan base or impact fan base? Which one is it?
Mike
It's the same word, impact.
Shane
Impact or no pact is not the same as impact. Okay, which. Read it again please. Sorry.
Mike
Which SEC team will have the most impact fan base this year? He worded it kind of crazy, but basically which fan base could make the most impact on the season?
Shane
Which fan base can make the most impact on the season?
Mike
Now I don't think you would have any way of knowing this unless you looked at all the schedules.
Shane
Can I know the answer.
Mike
I did it already for you.
Shane
I already know the answer. You're Florida Gators. This is the Swamp for me. Because I'm telling you right now, for John Sumrall to have the season that we all want, they gotta pack the Swamp. They gotta make it terrifying again, right? There was a moment when people feared the Swamp and you do that by packing the house getting violent. I mean on. Not like crazy violent, but you know what I'm saying. Just from start to finish, get those decibels up, make this thing just a damn terror to. To. To play in. So I. I think this is an easy answer for me, the Swamp.
Mike
Well, your easy answer is wrong, Shane. It is a good one though because I had him as a runner up. Yeah, it's Neland Stadium because Tennessee's hosting Texas Bama and lsu.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
And if Tennessee fans make the impact we know they can, you can win every one of those damn games. Now I'm not saying you're going to win them all, but they give you one hell of a. Like if I were, if I could tell you, Shane, that Arch Banning plays like he did against Florida last year because he's Rattled.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
We know Bama can't win it Neyland anymore. Sorry. Eiffel's already said, come out here, bring your mustard bottle, golf balls, all that shit for Kiffin. Uhhuh. If they rattle, let's say Tennessee beats those three.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
I mean, they're a playoff lock.
Shane
I agree. I totally agree. Win the home games.
Thumbtack Ad Voice
The.
Mike
The answer for me is Tennessee number one. I do like your floor. Florida. I did have number two. And speaking of lsu, I put them number three because they got A and M at home. They got Bama, Clemson, of course they'll smoke Clemson's ass. But Bama, Texas A and M, I think those are critical, critical games. We know how hostile of an environment Tiger Stadium can be.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
So that I think those are the. I looked at all these studies, all these schedules and broke them down. Those are the top three in me. Tennessee, Florida, lsu.
Shane
Can you pull South Carolina up? That's, that's another one that.
Mike
Well, hold on. Yeah, because he's. His question. He's got a. It's a two parter.
Shane
Oh, okay.
Mike
So not most impactful, but who's going to need the home crowd the most? And I threw Arkansas. God, they're gonna need a buddy. And again, you could laugh at Arkansas. We had desean Bishop at our table. SEC media days. Go look it up, it's on the channel. I asked him what's the toughest place to play in the sec? He said, I'm gonna give you a wild card. It's. Damn, Arkansas. Now is, is that enough to beat George at home? Probably not. But Tennessee, Missouri, Carolina, lsu, you show up and you, you support this team and you support this crazy coach out here. Again, who needs it the most? Yeah, I think it's Arkansas. And again, you're not going to win all these games, but if, if you can flip two of them that you're not projected to win today, I think that you're. You're going to set yourself up for one hell of a year. Shane's. I've always said he's a smart cousin. Carolina. I'm putting them in there as well.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Tennessee at home, A and M at home. Georgia at home. Kentucky and Mississippi State. These are all games. The crowd has got to be a factor for the Gamecocks if they're going to have a really good season. And then my number three, Auburn.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Florida at home. That's a pivotal game for both teams. LSU at home, that's going to be massive. Vanderbilt, perhaps. We'll see. You know, there's A world, Shane, where Vanderbilt doesn't take that big of a step back. Yeah, no, I don't think that's reality, but there's a world where that happens and you might need the home crowd there and, and you may laugh at Arkansas, the away team in the Arkansas Auburn game. The away team has won the last four. So, yeah, you got to show up for that with Auburn fans, and I know they will, but those are the, those are the ones. I think the, the. They need the home field the most this year.
Shane
I don't hate it, Mike. I don't hate it. You know, there's a couple other teams that, that, that are rattling around this head. I, I am curious about Texas A and M. Your Texas A and M Aggies. This is.
Mike
See, most of their games are road games, though. I mean, I know they got Tennessee
Shane
in Texas, but it's closing out, right? You know, November is, It's the final stretch. When you think of Texas A and M, what do you think about is them trailing off at the end of the year. So, you know, 12th man's got to be alive. What about Oklahoma, Is that another one that's got a lot of road games? I know they got Michigan on the road, Georgia on the road. Damn. Yeah, tons. But Ole Miss A M, I guess
Mike
you think they have an elite home field, though, to be honest with you,
Shane
you become an elite home field if you keep winning at home. You know, that's.
Mike
Well, they've done it. I mean. But yeah, both could be true. You could never lose at home.
Shane
And they said that about Georgia for years, right? Like, Georgia was not a daunting place. It's not a loud place there for a while until they start pumping noise in there. But Georgia actually is. Is a scary place to play because most of the time, 99% of the time you're going to walk out of there with a loss. So, yeah, yeah. I just feel like the intimidation is just the Georgia itself.
Mike
Well, you know what intimidates me, Shane?
Shane
What's that?
Mike

And now the next chapter of the SERTA Counting Sheep.
Shane
Hey uncle number one.
Serta Ad Voice
Why aren't we counting anymore?
Shane
Let me tell you a story.
Coach or Analyst Guest
Long ago Certa invented the perfect sleeper mattress.
Serta Ad Voice
Oh no.
Shane
Oh yes. It says the all new Certa Perfect
Coach or Analyst Guest

Mike
perfect sleep, night out, dark night.
Serta Ad Voice
We'll never get counted again.
Mike
Nope.

Serta. We make the world's best mattress.
Mike
Hey, shout out Cousin Lou. When I think of atm, I think of losers. That ATF always gets me. I always think of a damn ATM machine.
Shane
Absolutely. But I do like it. I wish I'd start using it. I'm going to start using it more.
Mike
Appreciate your cousin Lou.
Shane
Hey, thank you cuz.
Mike
Cash app Shane some gas money.
Shane
Just reminds me I owe my buddy some money. Played a little money on the golf today. Did not go well. Did not go well. So I'm gonna have to cash app them as soon as we get done here.
Mike
Okay, Shane. Moving on with the mail. Back again. We got some fantastic questions so far. We got some more over here. Oh you Jordan. Official cousin Shane. Official cousins always get their question answered. What jobs did you have before this? Well, hell, Shane's still got a job, so there's that. But before this Shane. I was working at a little outlet called Saturday Down South. Yeah, they threatened to fire me many times for starting this podcast. So I just said enough of that and hell, I never looked back. So there's that one. I've worked at Fox Sports, a national website, until they pivoted to video and they fired everybody. So that sucked. I worked@NFL.com before that and then before. Before that I was working in movies. Post production facility in. In Los Angeles. So pretty. Pretty weird journey to get here. You know what?
Shane
Yeah, me, I just do a lot of modeling, you know, and make things. Got a successful video blog that is going. But no, other than that, not much of anything. So probably shouldn't list my current employee in case they find out that this show exists.
Mike
Tennessee Legend. That's just where you worked. And we're just trying to get people to go. Go to your place of business.
Shane
Fun fact, my parents own Omaha Steaks and that's what we're here.
Serta Ad Voice
This.
Shane
We're playing the long game. They've been. They owned it since 1917.
Mike
Hey, shout out to. How about this? What about your worst job? Weren't you a roofer at one point?
Serta Ad Voice
Yeah.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
So how many days did that last?
Coach or Analyst Guest
Two.
Shane
It was about three days. And so my uncle, he owned a roofing company, right? And so I was working at a grocery store making like five bucks an hour. And I was like, this sucks. You know, I mean you. I mean that's. Grocery stores just do not pay. Maybe they pay better now, but back then. And he's like, dude, you come over here, we'll pay like $9 an hour. It's like, what $9? I was like, we'll be there. What time we gotta be there? And they're like four o'.
Grow Therapy Ad Voice
Clock.
Shane
And I was like, in the morning they're like, yeah, four. I mean, we got to get this job done before it gets too hot. And I was like, okay, that makes sense. So I get out there, we get up here. Dude, I am. That's when I realized real quick, I am afraid of heights. I didn't know it, but not like big heights. Like if you go in the Empire State Building, you look down. That doesn't bother me, but it's that 15 to 20 foot just feels like crazy hot for me. I could die. And so I get up there and then I'm like, dude, this is not for me. I hit a loose shingle and I slide down the roof. And I said, I'm out. I'm out, cuz. So I started Walking out and he. He looked at me, he goes, hey, Shane. He goes, you know why roofers make so much money? I was like, no. He goes, because no one else will do it. He's right. So I was called the groundhog the last day because I did not get back up on the ladder. I did everything they needed at the bottom, but I did not get back up there.
Mike
Hey, I don't blame you. I. I couldn't do it.
Shane
Hell no. I. And shout out to the ones that are doing it, man, I appreciate your service.
Mike
The real. They need some brew.
Shane
They're the real men. Yeah, I heard this. This saying that says, if you're gonna. If you're gonna stand around and watch me work, you can at least clap when I do something.
Shell Ad Voice
So
Shane
I'm down there. Great job, man.
Mike
All right. Hey, how about this one, Shane? I love this one, too. From cousin Savros. What non conference game worries you or excites you this off season? He says, and you can't say Ohio State, Texas, so I got three of each.
Shane
Three non conference games. Is that what he said?
Mike
Yeah, one that worries me. One that excites me. I got three of each.
Shane
Okay. All right.
Mike
So this, this. This one excites me here. Oklahoma at Michigan.
Shane
Yes.
Mike
Pretty excited to go see Michigan get their stuff pushed in by the Sooners. How about Ole Miss? Louisville?
Shane
Yes.
Mike
In Nashville in the opener. I think that's going to be fantastic. And Auburn, Baylor in Atlanta. Just wish it was a home game, but still I'm excited because I think Golish is going to open a can of whoop ass on old Dave Aranda. I think it's going to be the beginning where we could say, thank God we slammed the book close on the Hugh Freeze era and we're. We're moving in the right direction. So I'm not even concerned about those ones now. The ones that worry me.
Shane
Wait, wait, let me do my excitements real quick. So, on that same vein, I want to go LSU week one. Dabo getting his ass kicked September 5th. And it's just the start, right? It's just the. A prelude to the. The end or the demise of. Of Dabo. Because my second one is with South Carolina putting the nail in the coffin. Dabo's final game in Clemson, November 28th. That one will be special. Ooh. Nothing personal, Dabo.
Mike
Clemson just doesn't excite me at all. It's just. I've seen it all.
Shane
It's just getting rid of. Just putting it away. Just like, all right, that was. You had your moment. You're done.
Mike
So the ones that worry me.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Arkansas at Utah. That worries me a little bit there. Worries me a little bit, I'll be honest. And then how about this one, Shane? Mississippi State at Minnesota. Yeah. SEC needs it. Needs it bad. And I think Mississippi State can go up there and win. And they could. They could win convincingly, huh? But if they don't, buddy, I don't know. Again, is Mississippi State going to carry the flag for the sec? Not necessarily, but we're going to have to hear about it, you know, if they don't. So that. That one worries me slightly. And then Bama. Fsu. I can't believe I'm saying that out loud, but. But it does worry Be Shade. That's what the boring does. He loses these games, he should whoop the other team's ass. And yeah, hell, I said for months straight, they're going to destroy Florida State last year. And I know it's a completely different team and everything, but Florida State, whoop that ass. You know what?
Shane
You ever do that, you're just like, I'm just going to pretend that there's no shot that we lose this game, but deep down inside, there's that little devil on your shoulder saying, hey, come on. Yeah. Because I feel like when I. When I replay LSU in Florida State. You remember that one? I was like, there's no way. No way LSU's losing, okay? They get smashed, and then the next year, like, they ain't gonna do it twice. Ain't no way. And then they lose a damn game again. So that one. I get what you're saying. The only other one I'd add in there, Mike, and I've been saying this for a long time. Ole Miss, neutral site, Louisville. This one. I. I'm not saying that Ole Miss should lose this game, because they definitely shouldn't, but it does scare me. I'm not gonna. I'm not gonna. I'm just being honest with you here.
Mike
Okay? No, I think that's fair. But see, I like the Rebels. I know you don't.
Shane
Whatever.
Mike
And I like Savo. She gave us 50 bucks. Thanks. Just worked three weeks straight. Hopefully you're not a roofer. Here's your cut at tomorrow's paycheck. Appreciate you, buddy. Yeah.
Shane
Thank you for your service, man, whatever it is. Three weeks straight.
Mike
Geez.
Shane
Sound like you got mock schedule, you know?
Mike
Hey, look what's back. What's your Mount Rushmore of interviewees for people you would most want to interview, football or otherwise? I think it means like, you know, people we haven't done. Right? Yeah.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Do they have to be alive? I mean, hate to be morbid, but yeah, let's keep.
Shane
Let's keep them alive. Let's keep them alive. I would, I would throw. I still, I throw. Must Champ in there.
Mike
He's your top four.
Shane
No, I'm just thinking of fun interviews, you know, because there's, there's people in my top 50. There's people you can get on there just because of stories. Man, I. I tell you, maybe my interviews a little different. Yours. Mine is cracking open a cold beer, you know, by the fire, talking some football and I want to be around people that have stories, you know, just like we had. What was it? Norsworthy? Is that how you say his name? Yeah. Great, great interview. We just had it. He's one of my all time favorites. Just because I could listen to the guy talk for hours, you know, and I feel like a guy like Mus Champ or Coach Ogeron or something like that. Those guys could just go on for hours telling you about. I mean, they'll probably have you rolling all night long. So. So my interview is probably going to be a little bit different than yours. And clearly you could tell Ole Mace
Mike
says when Shane's scared, we're fine. Yeah, no, you want stories. I want good stories. Shade, Give me Barry Switzerland.
Shane
Who?
Mike
That interview you just referenced, he said, buddy, they should write the book on this guy's life story.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Barry Switzer, all time Oklahoma coach. And there was all kinds of NCAA allegations and crazy stories. He goes on to the super bowl, he coaches the Cowboys, wins the Super Bowl. I mean that man's got some damn stories, so that's got to be up there for me.
Shane
Yeah. Peyton Manning, Nick Saban.
Mike
Yeah, if he'd be honest, which he probably wouldn't be, but if he would, hey, that'd be up there for me. Nick Saban.
Shane
Kirby, our, our.
Mike
Sit down with him,
Shane
would you? Manzel, would you like Kirby Smart.
Mike
I don't think he'd give us anything. I think he'd. What are they, him and hall for an hour, you know.
Shane
Oh, no. Yeah. What if it, what if you told him there's like no cameras and stuff? I bet he would be like, nah, he's still. He wouldn't trust us. I don't blame him.
Mike
How about Steve Spurrier, old ball coach, man?
Shane
That'd be a good one. That'd be a hell of one. Yeah, because you can hear everything about the NFL, his experience up there, leaving, you know, South Carolina in the middle of the night. You know, why does he hate Tennessee so much? You know, we get all those questions answered.
Mike
You know what I think would be entertaining and I think it would be honest.
Shane
What's that?
Mike
Cam Newton. Yeah, he's a wild card. You know what?
Shane
Yeah. You're talking players now. Throw Heinz Ward in there for me just because I love the Sealers and I loved his time in the sec. So I'd fanboy out with the. With that one. So that would be a good one. And like I said, Peyton Manning definitely would want Manning on just because I bet he. I mean, we'd have a. We'd have a freaking blast. At the end of the day, dude, we'd have a blast. Okay.
Mike
Okay.
Shane
There's about 10 of them.
Mike
I think that's pretty good. All right, how about this one should from. Oh, this is funny. Cousin D. Berman. Hopefully I said that. Right. Appreciate you. He's official. Cousin. What will it take for Alabama and Greg Byrne to fire the boring? And we can answer it. But I also want to say this, Shane, because I thought when he wrote that question, I was thinking of him. I was thinking €100 check. I could think. I think you can make the case. Maybe even John Cohen at Auburn. I think we can make the case that some of these ads are on a hotter seat than the coaches.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Which if the boring doesn't work, I think that's on Greg Byrne.
Coach or Analyst Guest
And
Mike
you know, I think I'd be more concerned about that. But to fire DeBoer, I don't. I don't think they can, Shane. I don't think they can afford it. I really don't.
Shane
No, I was just thinking it would have to be a collapse. And when I mean collapse, I'm talking not make a bowl collapse. If that were to happen and maybe a crazy upset like Vanderbilt or something, you know. Yeah, yeah, that would be the. The kind of the. Because you're looking at. Usually you get fired at the end of the year. So I don't think they'd lose to Chattanooga. Hopefully not. But Vanderbilt could definitely happen. And dude, there's a scenario. As as high as I am on the Tide, there's a scenario they lose Georgia, Tennessee, A and M, LSU in a row. That's four losses, Mike. You compound that with a Vandy. See? Yeah, they'll find the money. That or they'll scrub your emails. They'll find something in there.
Mike
Yeah, he might have to take the Michigan State jab or something, you know.
Shane
Yeah, yeah. But again, it's not gonna happen. I'm just. I'm just saying it would take a. What's the opposite of a miracle, a travesty for that to happen.
Mike
All right, how about this one? Shane from good buddy, cousin Cal. Loving good.
Shane
Hey.
Mike
Always asks a question. Let's keep. Misses the post. He's missed the post the last couple times he's told me. But we appreciate you, buddy. Hope you're in here. Hope is dangerous in August, boys. But if we're talking hope index, which SEC fan base are you willing to put actual money? Oh, sorry. Which. Which fan bases Hope are you actually willing to put money on? So he's saying, forget the obvious favorites. So we're looking tier two teams is what he says. Yes, teams like A M turning an eight win projection into a playoff run or a dark horse smashing their over underline. Who gets your cash? Who you putting your cash app on? Shane, if you have to. A Tier 2 team, as he calls it, or a team at the lower end smashing their over.
Shane
Is Tennessee a Tier 2 team?
Mike
I think so.
Shane
I just answered Big Orange homer, Tennessee Volunteers. Faison's legit. This offense is legit. Defense does just enough to keep us in these football games. Especially when I say keep us. I'm looking at Texas, Alabama, you know, LSU, A&M on the road. Those type games, keep them within fighting distance. And I think the firepower on that offensive side could be electric. So give me the volunteers here.
Mike
Okay. Now, I don't think this team is a second tier team.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Remember Kyle put A and M in there and their overrunners, eight and a half. I think this is perhaps the best team in the conference chain. I got him as a second best. Oklahoma. Oklahoma to make the playoff. That's where I'd be putting my money.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Again, is that a tier two? I. I don't think they are, but
Shane
see, I didn't consider that they were.
Mike
They were voted seventh in the SEC media poll, so how could you not say they were? Again, in my mind they're not tier two. But yeah, consensus, I think they are. So I would put them as the team I'm most confident in to make that playoff push. And then to answer Kyle's question, a team at the low end that I put my money on to smash the over.
Shane
Yeah, give me Mississippi State.
Coach or Analyst Guest
Shane.
Shane
Four and a half.
Mike
I. Again, all we got to do is go five and seven. I know the schedule's a damn gauntlet, as are all these schedules, but I. I think we're going to smash that this year.
Shane
Oh, I love it. I love it. I, I, I, I'm bought in right. I again, I'm not thinking they're going to make the playoffs or anything, but hit the over, buddy. I mean there's a real shot. They got this thing wrapped up in October so. Not saying it happens, but I do like it. The other one.
Mike
Wait, wrapped up in October?
Shane
Oh yeah. Win the first four and then they just got to win one of those games.
Mike
I mean, I mean I don't, I don't think they're winning any of those, are they?
Shane
Oh, you just said Bam is a team so I would, I would imagine at home.
Mike
Mississippi State bad.
Shane
Damn. Why you hate Mississippi State? I don't know.
Mike
That's your 20 point underdog.
Shane
They start out 4 0. They're beating the Tide. That's, that's what I'm telling you right now. Here's my bold statement. If Mississippi state starts out 4 0, pencil them in ink. 5 0. It's happening.
Mike
You just, you were the guy yesterday saying Bev is back.
Shane
Well, you can't stop momentum. Them cowbells get going, cuz. But my answer, South Carolina, if you want to hit the over on one. I think this is the easiest one right here on the board. Six and a half. Come on. Come on.
Mike
Okay, I like that but I just think it'll be easier for State at four and a half, you know.
Shane
What about Kentucky? That's another one.
Mike
I, you know, I've already made my prediction, Shane. Kentucky, Arkansas, Vanderbilt, they are not combining to win six conference games.
Shane
I don't know, man. I saw some 12 and 2 predictions and stuff floating around 10 and 2.
Mike
They're playing some extra games up there.
Shane
Maybe they know something I don't. You know, they just, now that they got rid of that receiver, you know, they can focus on winning that now
Mike
their depth is even.
Shane
Yeah, don't need it. Nick Rouse is doing routes out there.
Mike
Hey, so I think we kind of already asked answered this one, but cousin Gozi, do you think the versatility of Camario Taylor combined with Zach Arnett's aggressive defense raises the floor for Mississippi State? Yeah, and hell yeah.
Shane
Yeah. I love this kid. This kid who was I. We did so many interviews, I can't remember but there was one dude I could listen to him talk for 30 minutes about how good Taylor's going to be and he's convinced me that dude, we may end this season with Camario being the best quarterback in the sec. That, that's a real, that's not just fluff man, that's not just bullshit. That's this is guy that could potentially in this offense have more yards than anybody rushing and passing. And, and we're looking at Taylor as just the, the, the next elite to be drafted in the NFL at some point.
Mike
Yeah, I think he's going to make him competitive in every game. You know what?
Shane
Yeah, yeah. If you play fantasy, this guy better be on your football team, cuz.
Mike
Hey, well, speaking of quarterback Shane, Shout out cousin. Chase Moore, official cousin. We appreciate your buddy. Who are the top five quarterbacks in the SEC in terms of highest ceiling based on their physical talent? Oh, so it's a very specific question he's asking there. But basically I took it as, you know, which quarterbacks has the most talent if they maximize their talent, which is not a given by any means.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Who are the best, most talented quarterbacks in the Southeastern Conference?
Shane
Trinidad. Right. Number one.
Mike
I put him in there. And we got to remember Shane, he wasn't even there for spring football last year.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Like he was just thrown into the mix and was down. So I, I think he has just begun to scratch the surface of his talent.
Shane
I put Lenore Sellers in there.
Mike
Shane, it's like you're reading off my notes here,
Shane
man. Would you go Taylor?
Mike
That's who I got, number three.
Shane
Oh, you, you may not like this one, but I'm going Arch Manning.
Mike
That's who I got number five.
Shane
Okay. And then you got Marcel Reed. John Matiere.
Mike
Missed it again. I don't think you get this one. You could guess three more. You probably wouldn't get it.
Shane
Philo.
Thumbtack Ad Voice
No.
Shane
Oh. Brown, Auburn. No. Oh, damn. Maybe I won't get it now. I feel.
Mike
Final shot.
Shane
This is the final one. Let's go, Austin.
Mike
Damn, he got Keelan, Russell, Bama.
Shane
Oh, I don't know. God ain't even got to start job yet.
Mike
I've seen enough. Shane, he's got the highest ceiling. He could put it all together. He could be the next great Deborah quarterback. You know what?
Shane
Yeah. That spring, spring game got you.
Mike
Homer podcast. We literally just went through all the court. We haven't even mentioned Tennessee quarterback.
Shane
No, no. But now that you have,
Mike
what a wild statement. All right, how about this one? Shay from Captain Cousin Captain so Fawn. I'm sure I butchered that. Oh, this is a good one, Shane. We kind of, kind of addressed this on the last episode. He, he says if I promise you, promise you, Shane. That Florida has an average offensive line and decent quarterback play. How good does Florida become this year?
Shane
Man, I Still, I mean, I'm sitting there at the 8, 8 and 4, 9 and 3. I don't think those are the things that need to hit. I. For me, Mike, it's health. Right. Because they have some serious talent, but they're thin in a few spots. So I think you need a little Lady Luck. Some talent needs to be intact for the 1212 games. And then more importantly, the defense. The defense is what's going to keep you in these games. And, and I really do like everything that they've got and it looks good on paper, but if that hits, I feel like that would be the X factor for the Florida Gators.
Mike
Shane, could you imagine a Texas fan saying the Gators are irrelevant? He out of the playoff.
Shane
Yeah, they were relevant that day. They were once relevant, but no longer.
Mike
All right, then he's got a follow up here. Week three, what are the most underrated week three games? Because everybody's talking about lsu, Ole Miss. Yeah, it's kind of a dud week, Shane, outside of there's two games I got my eye on because there's a lot of non conference Florida at Auburn. That's, that's huge for those two. Mississippi State Carolina.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
And that's about it. Kentucky at A M. Florida State, Alabama. I mean, honestly, I think Alabama's gonna whoop that ass. But yeah, I thought that last year. NC State at Vanderbilt maybe and then Georgia, Arkansas. Those are the only SEC games week. So week three is kind of a dud.
Shane
I mean we'd love to have all those duds right now, but I get it. It's going to fail in comparison to the matchup we've been talking about for, you know, since Lane left. So yeah, I, I think that one is going to, I do think Florida,
Mike
Auburn could be awesome.
Shane
We may end, that's the crazy part. We may end with a emergency podcast talking about one of those games, you know, that doesn't blow my mind. That's exactly what's going to happen this year in the sec. We got the one circled that are going to be great. But there may be two other ones in there. I mean, could you imagine Auburn taking it to the Florida Gators or Mississippi State going to Columbia and, and getting a win.
Mike
That's.
Shane
Those are some big, big games for those, those programs. So. And it could happen.
Mike
All right, Shane, how about this one from Cousin Fishing? Official cousin.
Shane
God, was this the Ole Miss podcast? Just kidding. Because I'm giving you our time.
Mike
I, I don't 100% know what he's asking Shane. So maybe I'm going to need your help to answer this one.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
Will Pete Golding be the next Ed Ogeron? So what does that mean? I mean, that's, that's the question.
Shane
Like win a national title.
Mike
That's what I'm saying. Is it that or is it have
Shane
an affair and run out of, run
Mike
out at Ole Miss, run out of lsu? I mean, there's many different ways you could go about that, but I don't
know,
Shane
I would take it. You know, here's, here's the thing. If somebody came up to me and said, my team, Tennessee Vols, hate to mention again, but if somebody said, all right, here's the deal. We're going to let you win a national title with Josh Apple this year and we're going to put together one of the most exciting football teams, you will, I mean, you will be talking about this team for the rest of your life because of all the talent that came in here. So if we're going the Coach O route, your quarterback's gonna win a Heisman, something that never happened, but his ass is leaving a few years, you know, And I'm like, dude, I'll take it. I will take it. So, yes, I would definitely make that trade.
Mike
Yeah. I don't care what happened to Coacho before he got to lsu. I don't care what happens after. He's, he's a legend for that year. You know what?
Shane
Hell yeah. He can sleep with all the women in Knoxville. I don't care.
Mike
All right, shout out Cousin Glad Warsaw official cousin, we appreciate you, but another great question, Shane, what's your most iconic college football memory growing up that involved an SEC team? He says mine was watching the Choke It Duke when I was in the sixth grade on television. So what, What? Anything come to mind for you? You want me to go first?
Shane
Yeah, you go first. I'm going through them.
Mike
So I again, I didn't grow up as a kid watching college football, as crazy as that may be to believe. I didn't watch it till we moved to East Tennessee. I can't remember how old I was, but I was, I was a kid and my dad took me. My dad had got season tickets. Shane. To Tennessee 98 Tennessee beat Florida fans stormed the field, tore down the gulp. I was like, what is this madness that. That stands out to me?
Shane
Dude, I go back, there's, there's several, man. Probably for me, the biggest one was the stumble and fumble with Arkansas 98. I mean, if you watch that game, there's no reason that Arkansas should have lost that thing. And golly, somehow they did. And I. That one. That one for me was probably the highest of high I've ever been in my entire life. So next to that field goal you mentioned with Will Hoyt missing the extra point and then nailing like a 53 yarder game winner against the Florida Gators. That was up there. I'm just trying to think, man, there's so many. So many good times. Golly. And you go back when you weren't
Mike
really a kid at that point though, were you 16? You know you were older than that. Because I was a. I was in college.
Shane
98. Oh. Oh, no, no. Yeah. Oh, yeah, that. That's a good point. Now I'm just living down. Damn. Thanks for calling out, Mike.
Mike
I bet Stephen Up's got some way
Shane
showing up for them boys in Tuscaloosa. Thank you, cuz. Roll Tide even up.
Mike
Roll Tide favorite Alabama memory for Stephen up 22.
Shane
Oh, sorry for him.
Mike
How about to. To DeVonta Smith broke Georgia's back. National championship fourth and whatever.
Shane
What was that one? Fourth?
Mike
No, that. That was like. I think I was second down. Second and forever because they just took a big set.
Shane
Yeah, yeah, that was.
Mike
But I don't know how you top at national championship game winner.
Shane
Here's. Here's one for Tennessee. Freaking Aryan Foster fumble, wasn't it, Foster? Yeah, I think it was Aryan Foster fumble. And it was like a 6, 3 game is. I mean, we were going into the Enzo. We were going to win this damn thing. And. And it was down there. And then, yeah, they had the fumble. And that one. Was it Harper? I think Harper punched it out or something. Oh, man, that one was a heartbreaker.
Mike
Yeah. Second and 26 walk off, Nettie.
Serta Ad Voice
Yeah.
Mike
You know which moment I wish that I was watching live? The bluegrass miracle. I know where I imagine that, you
Shane
know, I know where I was when it was happening. We were at some like event and I was like, God, can we get out of here? And then ever everybody's talking about this game. They're like, dude, LSU's about to lose. And I was like, what? To Kentucky. I remember. And then we all got up there, went small little tv. We're all piled around. And then that happened. It was a JP Pilot sport game too, right?
Mike
Yeah.
Shane
Yeah, dude, that take me back. Oh, man, there's been so many good games.
Mike
And I do remember again, I was not really even that big of a fan. I was a kid. I remember Florida. Steve Spurrier. I couldn't even tell you the Year, but it was probably like 94, 95, 96. They lost LSU. And it was like, I just remember that was the people I was with that was like, earth shattering that spur your lost a game because they. They damn near never lost in those days. You know what?
Shane
They. I'll. I keep going back to this memory, and I can't quite remember the game, but I was. I was a little kid, and Tennessee either had an interception or something, and I was like, I gotta call Papaw. So I get on the phone and I call what I thought was Papa, you know, and this old man picks up and he's like. He's all excited. I'm excited. Like, what did you see? I touched him, you know, and he's like, yeah, yeah, it was awesome. It was great. And I was like, that's so cool. And he goes, do you want to talk to mama? And I'm like, my grandfather's not married. Like, I was like, yeah. And then I realized right then that I had the wrong number. So I celebrated with some other old guy.
Mike
Nice. All right, final one, Shane. We unfortunately, no food questions.
Shane
That's okay. Omahal Steaks. You know, that's the only food question I need.
Mike
Cousin Tab. Now, this is a long one, Shane, so bear with me here. Looking ahead, he says, seems like the conference will expand. The way they do the scheduling now is perfect, but with more teams, it can't work that way. Also, as much as we don't like it, let's say the season starts earlier in the year to accommodate a 2014 playoff. So since rivalry weekend wouldn't be Thanksgiving, what if we made the last game of the regular season? Tbd. That's kind of interesting. Matching teams up according to fan interest TV ratings. This could generate money to get rid of the SEC championship. With 24, there's plenty of room and enough SEC teams. And he says, okay, so here's a question. If that happened, that's a big what if all this stuff happened? But what priority would you give to the matching teams? Getting more teams in the playoffs, better seating for the top four or five, what do you think? It might keep fans of all schools more interested at the end of the season. For example, matching the bottom two in sort of a sicko bowl game,
Shane
huh? That's a lot.
Mike
So basically, I think what he's really asking, you know, this is. Remember it was like last media days, not the one that just happened, but the one before everyone was giving drink of horrible time for, like, his expanded playoff. Yes, but that's basically what he was saying, he was, he just, he didn't want a giant playoff. He wanted basically like a big play in. And if you win the play in, then you get it in the playoff so you didn't have to expand and it's still technically like a 2014 playoff. Yeah, but if they ever did that, how would you, how do you think they do that?
Shane
I, I really think that. Well, forget our expanding. Right. Let's say we keep 16 and then we, we expand the playoffs. I always like the opportunity, the idea of the, we'll say the first four teams that are not guaranteed a playoff spot. Those compete for two spots. That's, that's what I think. Big Ten's doing it. SEC's doing it. You could still keep the SEC championship in this mix. Could you imagine three games that week? That would be, that would be ideal. And then have that opportunity to make it into the tournament so that you guys. Because that's what it is, it'll be a tournament at this point. And yeah, I, I, I think that would be the ultimate move so that you can get more fan bases involved.
Mike
Right. And that way you honor the regular season.
Shane
Yeah.
Mike
If you're really good, you, you don't get bounced. You get into the, the tournament and then those, that maybe, you know, maybe they got banged up or what have you, give them a final opportunity to make the cut.
Shane
Yeah. I don't hate it because think about it. Last year. Let's just say last season, you know, having Vanderbilt and Texas and who was the other two is right behind them? Was it Tennessee? No, not Tennessee. Yeah, I guess it was Mizzou, I don't know. But just having those four teams play, right, especially the way Texas was finishing up the season, there's a real shot, I think that they could have been one that spoiled it all when it was all said and done. By the way, they're playing at the end of the year, so. Yeah, I don't like if we're going to do that. That would be the move. But again, I am totally against expanding the playoffs. I want to be clear.
Mike
We don't, we don't have to expand all the time, you know?
Shane
Yeah, no, no, no. Yeah, exactly. I've been expanding for 44 years. I'm finally going the opposite. You know what? I told you, I've been bulking for 44 years. Mike, this cut, this cut's gonna be legit.
Mike
Well, I'll tell you who else is legit. Shane. Yeah, that's our buddy, cousin Glenn Warsaw.
Shane
Thank you.
Mike
He Gifted a membership to Kits UK sp. And then cousin Lou, he gifted five membership. Shane Tony, Canada, freeloader, the elusive Gooch, the American Idiot, and Pepperton Boys. All of y', all, welcome to the family.
