You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
Good Saturday morning to you. Ben Ferguson with you. And these are some of the stories that you may have missed that we talked about this week on the 47 Morning Update. First up, an incredible moment at the.
Narrator/Reporter
White House where Charlie Kirk was honored with the highest civilian honor that you can get. It was a moment to remember Charlie Kirk and also to honor his life and his legacy. You also hear from Senator Cruz and what he had to say about that day in the Rose Garden.
Ben Ferguson
Also, the president of the United States of America, Donald Trump, not wasting any time going after the cartels, taking out more boats in international water that are filled with drugs and now talking about going after targets that are on land.
Narrator/Reporter
It's the 47 Morning Update and it starts right now. It was a very moving moment at the White House. It was not covered like the memorial for Charlie Kirk, but it was a day that we should all pause and listen to what was said at the White House. Donald Trump awarded Charlie Kirk the Medal of Freedom on what would have been his 32nd birthday. President Trump had a lot to say about Charlie. And here is part of what he had to say about who he was.
Donald Trump
But it was a horrible, heinous, demonic act of murder. He was assassinated in the prime of his life for boldly speaking the truth, for living his faith and relentlessly fighting for a better and stronger America. He loved this country. And that's why this afternoon it's my privilege to posthumously award Charles James Kirk, our nation's highest civilian honor, the Presidential Medal of Freedom. Thank you.
Narrator/Reporter
You think about the legacy of Charlie Kirk, the most powerful man in the world and the most powerful men and women in our government, our cabinet members, all sitting at the White House talking about the life, the legacy and the faith of Charlie Kirk. Donald Trump also said this about Charlie Kirk being a martyr, someone who will always be remembered.
Donald Trump
As I said, on the day that he was assassinated, Charlie Kirk was a martyr for truth and for freedom. And from Socrates to think and to St. Peter, from Abraham Lincoln to Martin Luther King, those who change history the most, and he really did, have always risked their lives for causes they were put on earth to defend. He was put on earth to do exactly what he was doing. He didn't want to waste time. He would have been a top student at any college in the country. I know the college as well. He was. He's smarter than the guys. He was so smart. But he almost, I guess, didn't have the time. It was. He knew what he wanted to do. It wasn't like, gee, I want to sit in the classroom for four years listening to people teach me liberal principles, because they were never going to teach him that anyway. But he didn't have the time. He really didn't have the time. But every time the enemies of goodness and virtue tried to silence the voice of righteous and noble leaders like Charlie, they fail. They seem to fail. Ultimately, they look like they're doing well, and then they end up failing because the truth has been unrelenting over the years, over history. And people like Charlie, it's just they've got a power that others don't have and very few people will ever have. So today, like those martyrs before him, Charlie's voice, his message, and his legacy are stronger and greater than ever before. They are greater than ever before.
Narrator/Reporter
Charlie Kirk was a martyr for truth and freedom. When you think about his life, and it was a short life, you look at now who he's being compared to, as the President described him as someone that will be remembered, like St. Peter, Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King. Those are people who change history the most. And referring to Charlie Kirk, he said he really did. They risked their lives for causes that they were put on earth to defend. And that's exactly what Charlie Kirk was doing. The President also sang this about America and Charlie Kirk's love for this country.
Donald Trump
Charles James Kirk was a visionary and one of the greatest figures of his generation. He was truly an amazing figure and. And growing leaps and bounds. He knew that the fight to preserve our heritage is waged not only on the battlefield and in the halls of power, of which we have tremendous power here, including the head of a place called War. We call it now War. We had Defense, we had our Secretary of Defense. Now we have a Secretary of War. And somehow I think it's more emblematic and hopefully we'll never have to use war. But the fact that we're ready is very good. Peace through strength is very important, but also in the hearts of our nation's youth. That's where Charlie rode strongest. At age 18. That insight inspired Charlie to found the organization that ultimately touched the lives of millions and millions of people, and so many young people that nobody has ever seen anything like it, frankly. Turning Point usa, It's amazing, and it's actually bigger now. It's become bigger in the last few weeks than Charlie ever thought. I think his end vision in many years from now would have been just a fraction of what it turned out to be in a couple of weeks. Right? It's amazing. With hard work and joyful spirit and endless enthusiasm and determination. And he did have great enthusiasm. You know, say you need enthusiasm to be successful. He had great enthusiasm. Charlie grew Turning Point into the largest conservative youth organization in the entire country. He forged a personal bond with countless young conservatives. He fought for free speech, religious liberty, strong borders, and a very strong and proud America. In everything he did, he put America first. He really put America first. And ultimately, Charlie became more than a leader of an important organization. He became the leader of historic movements all over the country. There were movements, individual movements, one movement, but it was historic. Everything he did was historic, and everything.
Narrator/Reporter
He did was historic. An incredible day at the White House. An honor. That was a moment that was needed. It will hopefully be a moment that his parents and his wife and his children will have forever and never forget.
Ben Ferguson
Now, story number two.
Donald Trump, after the doxing of ICE agents, is obviously not going to sit around and allow the cartels to put bounties on our men and women in uniform, our men and women protecting our border, our law enforcement officers, and think they can just get away with it as they're now going to war with us. What is President Trump doing now? Well, he's next looking, quote, at land in Latin America after the US Military has conducted at least five fatal strikes against alleged drug boats in the Caribbean since September alone. Quote, we are certainly looking at land now because we've got the sea very well under control. Trump told reporters on Wednesday. We've had a couple of days where there isn't a boat to be found, and I view that as a good thing, not a bad thing. Trump said he wasn't interested in having the Coast Guard simply stop the alleged drug boats because, quote, we've been doing that for 30 years and it has been totally ineffective. They, referring to the cartels, have faster boats. Some of these boats are seriously, I mean, they're world class speedboats, Trump said. But they're not faster than missiles, but we've been trying to do that for years. The White House has not responded to requests for comment about what this means and details of the nature of a land operation that Trump is considering. Additionally, Trump confirmed that he has also, and this is big news, authorized the CIA to conduct covert operations in Venezuela after the New York Times reported on Wednesday that he had approved the order. According to Trump, he did so because Venezuela has released prisoners into the US and that drugs were coming into the US From Venezuela via maritime channels. Trump declined to answer, though, when asked if the CIA had the authority to, quote, unquote, take out the Venezuelan President Maduro. He's nothing more than a drug kingpin in that country. The Trump administration has said it does not recognize Maduro as a legitimate head of state, but a leader of a drug cartel. Quote, I don't want to answer a question like that, trump said. That's a ridiculous question for me to be given. Not really a ridiculous question, but wouldn't it be a ridiculous question for me to answer? But I think Venezuela is feeling heat now. The Trump administration has adopted a hard line approach to address the flow of drugs into the US and designated drug cartel groups like the Trend, Sinaloa and other cartels as foreign terrorist organizations doing this back in February. Additionally, the White House sent lawmakers a Memo as well September 30th dated informing them that the US is now participating in a non international armed conflict with drug smugglers. Lawmakers on both sides the aisle have also voiced, quote, concerns over the legality of the strikes. Senator Adam Schiff, a Democrat who's never met a drug dealer he didn't like, and Tim Kaine, the Democrat from Virginia, have filed a war powers resolution to bar U.S. forces from engaging in hostilities against certain non state organizations, again defending the drug cartels that are killing Americans. The resolution failed in the Senate by a 5148 margin Oct. 8. Republican Rand Paul of Kentucky and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska voted alongside their Democratic counterparts in the resolution. When asked about lawmakers concerns about the legality of the strikes, Donald Trump dismissed them and said that lawmakers were informed the vessels carried drugs, quote, but they are given information that they were loaded up with drugs. And that's the thing that matters. The president said when they're loaded up with drugs, they're fair game. And every one of those ships were. And they're not ships, they're boats that were loaded up with drugs. So the president, United States of America, making it very clear he's not going to sit around and wait for more Americans to be killed by accidental overdoses from fentanyl. He's not going to wait around while cartels are putting bounties on our American law enforcement heads. He's going to war with these cartels because he has designated them as terrorist organizations. And this is exactly what so many conservatives voted for in the last presidential election.

Honoring Charlie Kirk at the White House
Trump’s Remarks: Kirk as a Martyr and Visionary
Trump lauds Kirk’s courage, faith, and his contribution to conservative youth causes, likening him to historical change-makers.
Kirk is described as a "martyr for truth and freedom," with his work compared to figures such as Socrates, St. Peter, Abraham Lincoln, and Martin Luther King.

Takeaway on Kirk’s Legacy
From Maritime to Land Operations
In response to cartel violence and the doxing of ICE agents, the Trump administration expands from targeting drug boats at sea to potential land operations in Latin America.
Trump highlights the relative success of recent U.S. military maritime strikes and signals readiness to take further action ashore.
"We are certainly looking at land now because we've got the sea very well under control. We've had a couple of days where there isn't a boat to be found, and I view that as a good thing, not a bad thing."

Covert CIA Operations in Venezuela
Legal and Political Reactions
The Trump administration previously labeled major cartels (Sinaloa, Tren) as foreign terrorist organizations.
A war powers resolution aimed at restricting U.S. military engagement with cartels failed in a narrow Senate vote (51-48).
Trump dismisses legal concerns, stating:
"They are given information that they were loaded up with drugs. And that's the thing that matters... when they're loaded up with drugs, they're fair game."
— Donald Trump (Ben Ferguson paraphrasing) (10:50)
