Before I play this audio, can you explain to everybody the legal aspect of this? When you're asking for whistleblower status, who grants that to you? What does that allow you to do? And why is an attorney involved this early on?

There is breaking news in the federal criminal investigation into Hunter Biden's tax returns. An attorney for an IRS supervisor sent a letter to lawmakers today asking for whistleblower protection, saying his client has information that suggests the investigation is being improperly influenced by, quote, preferential treatment and politics. Here's CBS News chief investigative correspondent Jim Axelrod.

My client wants to come forward to Congress. He's ready to be questioned about what he knows and what he experienced under the proper legal protections.

Attorney Mark Lytle's client is a supervisory special agent at the IRS who's prepared to tell Congress the investigation he's been working on has been hampered by what he thinks is special treatment.

This is, I think, clearly significant because the fact that they're doing it, dedicating a minute and 39 seconds to it and explaining it this way while they're interviewing this attorney. Is it fair to say now that the Biden family is no longer able to control this story and is losing their grip on the media, protecting them at all costs like they did with a Hunter Biden laptop story, saying we refuse to touch it?

The United States, for, from posting until they withdrew their story on Hunter Biden's laptop. A story that was true and yet it was politically inconvenient to the media.

You look at this story, and if you just go back to our podcast on Wednesday and if you missed it, go back and listen to it. But there was big breaking news center that deals with the Biden crime family, obviously, and, and the expansion of the number of people that were on the take with the last name Biden. But also there was these suspicious activity reports that apparently have connections to prostitution rings, to Chinese business dealings worth astronomical sums of money every time, as you described it you flip over Iraq, there's another Biden on the take. This story with a potential whistleblower at the IRS has nothing to do with that story that we covered on Wednesday. Go back and listen to it. But if you are the White House tonight, what's going through your head now knowing you have these types of stories coming out in consecutive days?

Report much of that income. And so I think it's an easy IRS claim that is quite likely to be brought against him.

I want to move to another issue, Senator, and that is on the border crisis. This is another big story. Obviously, being a senator from Texas, this is something that you've been seeing firsthand, the just total abuse by this administration to look the other way and lie to the American people claiming that they've got things under control at the border. One of the dumbest things that I've heard was again reiterated today by Mayorkas in his testimony. He said today that the border is secure. That's a lie. We know it from the data. But here he is again saying it again today.

It is my testimony that the border is secure and we are working every day, day and night to, to increase its security. The challenges that we are experiencing at the border cannot be overstated.

Senator, we know that's a lie. We have record number of individuals coming across our southern border. You've been saying this for a long time now and blowing the whistle on just how bad things are at the border. And he sits there and goes, oh, no, it's secure, it's secure. Everything's fine, it's secure.

Well, I got to say, I wonder if Alejandro Mayorkas and Merrick Garland have a bar bet for who can be.

The most brazenly dishonest to Congress.

And your political superiors turn around and say, we're not going to charge him, let him go. That is happening every day.

And yet they say that this border is secure. Clearly it's not. The New York Times. And this goes back to what we were talking about earlier with the media seems to be now not necessarily turning on Biden's but not covering for them anymore in their failures, whether it's the Biden crime family or now with this issue of the border. They actually came out with a report today and a big deep dive titled as migrant children were put to work, US ignored warnings. The White House and federal agencies were repeatedly alerted to signs of children at risk. The warnings were ignored or missed. In 2021, as images of children sleeping under foil blankets and overflow centers dominated the news. Susan Rice, the White House head of domestic policy, told staff members she was frustrated with the situation, according to five people who worked with her. Ms. Rice vented in a note she scribbled on a memo detailing the position of advocates who believed a pandemic era border closure was compelling parents to send unaccounted children, sometimes called UC's, to the U.S. she said in her words. Apparently on this, on this memo pad, this is BS Ms. R Ice wrote, according to a copy of a memo reviewed by the Times. What is leading to voluntary separation is our generosity to ucs. This is their own words. They knew that they were encouraging this to happen and they knew their policies were encouraging it and they knew it was putting lives, kids, lives at risk.
