Donald Trump, looking back at that year, making it clear that he is doing this job now for the American people. And it's clear that he has a mission to do what he promised, which was to put Americans first. The President was asked about that one year since Butler, Pennsylvania in an interview that he did with his daughter in law on Fox News Channel. And I want you to hear what the President had to say looking back over the last year.
Donald Trump
But they briefed me and I'm satisfied with it. I'm satisfied with it. They should have had somebody in the building that was a mistake. They should have had communications with the local police. They weren't tied in and they should have been tied in. So there were mistakes made and that, you know, shouldn't have happened. And that building was a prime building in terms of what they were trying to do. So. But I was satisfied in terms of the bigger plot, the larger plot. I was satisfied. And you know, I have great confidence in these people. I know the people and they're very talented, very capable. They had a bad day and I think they'll admit that at the end of a rough day. This is a very dangerous job being president. You know, I say a race car driver, 1% of 1% think of that. Die. It's not a lot. A bull rider, I think that's pretty dangerous. It's like 1/10 of 1% die. And with the President it's like 5%. Why didn't you tell me this? I could have maybe made a different decision, but I wouldn't have made a different decision because we're doing so well. The country's back.
Ben Ferguson
The country's back. The President, United States of America, making it clear that he has a Mission, a mission statement. And his mission is to protect Americans and put Americans first. He also had this to say about what he wants for the future of this country.
Dana Bash
A lot of people look at what you've done, though, and they say, had you not had four years in between, maybe all this success would not be possible. Do you agree with that?
Donald Trump
Well, experience is very important in life. I think talent is more important than experience. But if you can have them both, somehow it's a very good thing. But experience is very important. I think it also helped. It was very bad for the country, but it also helped to have four years of horror. What went before me was horror. And by comparison, I think anything looks good. And I don't want to demean what we've done because we've done a lot of records. But what. What they've done to our country should never be forgiven. Allowing millions and millions of people to come into our country that shouldn't be here. It's such a big aspect of what we're doing now with the borders. And it could have been so easy. When I gave over the country, the border was great. Now it's better than it was, but it was much worse than it was in 2016 when I took it over. That was a border problem also. But I think when people see the horror show that we had for four years, an absolute horror show, they tried to kill. It was almost like they tried to kill our country. And the beautiful thing is now we have the hottest country in the world.
Ben Ferguson
The president making it clear I have a lot to do. I have a legacy. I am working for the American people. I am doing things. For example, the big, beautiful bill which is going to help Americans, and I made it a reality. Another part of his commitment to. To the American people.
Donald Trump
It's unbelievable. It's the most incredible bill, one of the most incredible bills ever passed. And it's the biggest. It's the biggest bill of its kind ever passed. And we have to talk about it. When you think about no tax on tips, no tax on Social Security, no tax on overtime, a big tax cut in addition to that, plus we're saving the tax cut that we made years ago, which is big. It expired. In another couple of months, it would have expired. They would have had a 68% tax increase, and now they have a tax cut. And you have to explain that to people because, you know, the public, they're doing. They're driving a cab. They're working as a lawyer, accountant, or teacher or doing any one of a million different Things. They're not into it like we are. You have to explain it. So every chance you get. Because what they do is they set a phony. You know, they're fake. The Democrats are fake. They're part of the fake news. But. And the fake news will take it and they'll go with it. It's unbelievable.
Ben Ferguson
I love this president, how quickly he moves on from a question like, hey, a year ago, they tried to kill you. He's making jokes. He is making jokes and going back to what he's trying to do. Put together an incredible administration with an incredible cabinet that is doing incredible things for the American people.
Donald Trump
We have really good people this time, and they get along with each other. They love each other. They love the country. And it's smoother. I think it's smoother. You know, we did. A lot of people thought my first term was phenomenal. I did. I thought, you know, we got the largest tax cut in history, the biggest tax cut in history, the biggest regulation cuts in history by four times. Nobody even came close. We rebuilt our military. They gave some of it away to Afghanistan. And one of the most embarrassing moments ever. But, you know, we. We terminated ISIS. ISIS was 100% gone and terminated. They started making a little bit of a comeback since Biden got in, as you know, but they were gone and we'll take care of it. But now we're doing things that maybe are on even a different level now. It's been, especially this last couple of weeks has been pretty amazing.
Ben Ferguson
Protecting Americans, standing up for Americans, protecting us at the border, protecting us with taxes, protecting us from terrorists. That's what the president wants you to remember about it. Now, story number two. President Donald Trump made it very clear when he was running for president, if you vote for him, he's going to secure the southern border and also have the largest deportation this country has ever seen of illegal immigrants. The president holding true to that promise, regardless of how much the media attacks him. Which brings us to the big story about Alligator Alcatraz. It is simply the Everglades Detention Center. It's located at the Dave Collier Airport in the Florida Everglades. And the facility has actually been nicknamed Alligator Alcatraz. And that's where the media lost their minds. Now, it began operations on July 3rd. It's intended to hold up to 5, 000 immigration detainees as of today. Lawmakers and the press have visited under tight restrictions. Democrat officials infuriated, describing it as, quote, vile, horrible, inciting, overcrowded cages, lack of sanitation, extreme heat, worm infested food, flooding toilets and restricted legal access. The reality that's all a lie. The Trump administration, Republican officials have defended it, saying it meets standards and it serves as a deterrent. And plans exist to replicate this model in other states. Doubling down now. It's currently a flash point in the immigration debate, praised by many like myself, who support the president, saying this is effective in condemning illegal immigration, even as Democrats, quote, unquote, call it inhumane. Well, the president of the United States of America, making it clear, sending out Tom Homan to do TV to talk about immigration. And also Alligator Alcatraz. And he set the record straight with Dana Bash on cnn. Take a listen.
Dana Bash
I do want to turn to what is going on in Florida. And that is what the administration, what you call Alligator Alcatraz was visited by Democratic members of Congress yesterday. They were given limited access. And this, of course, was is a new detention facility set up by Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. What these Congress people described was sweltering heat, bug infestations, meager meals. They say they heard detainees crying out for help. The wife of one man detained there said he's not been given access to a lawyer. He's been in detention for about two weeks. Is that acceptable to you? And is that what you're seeing when you go?
Brian
I have not been there yet. And I doubt a lot of that's factual. I mean, bottom line is, you know, from the day one, I've been doing this job since 1984. Detainees complain about the conditions of detention. And I said this many times. You can Simply go to ice.gov and look at the detention standards ICE has. They have the highest detention standards in the industry. But these same congressmen are complaining about Alligator Alcatraz. You didn't see them complaining about under the Biden administration, people being held in a Border Patrol parking lot, surrounded by a fence and the sweltering heat, not a word. You didn't hear a word about half a million children being trafficked in the country and them not being able to locate 300,000. President Trump. This administration is finding thousands of those children. So, you know, they have a lot of anger under President Trump and how we're doing business. And they ignored four years of open borders. Historic migrant death, historic Americans dying from fentanyl. Historic numbers of women and children being sex dropped. Historic number of people on terrorist watch list coming across the border. Silence. Silence because they're complicit, because they didn't take the administration on and ask them to secure the border. You can't have strong national security in this country, if we don't have border security, we got to know who's coming and what's coming, where it's coming. But instead, they kept silent and they kept feeding the American people. We have a secure border and we did not.
Ben Ferguson
Tom Homan making it clear that Trump officials have given him a job. And reportedly they arrested 30,000 undocumented migrants in June. The Trump administration putting out the new numbers, saying that this was a significant escalation in immigration enforcement, according to ICE data. Now, the surge reflects a focus on detaining individuals with over 14,000 convicted criminals and 9,800 facing pending charges. Among those apprehended since January, only about 18,000 so far have actually been deported, highlighting a gap due to overcrowded detention facilities and and pending asylum cases. Yet again, proving the point of just how many illegal immigrants were allowed into the country. Now, you may ask, what is the reason behind Alcatraz, right this alligator, Alcatraz, as the media keeps freaking out over. It's obviously meant to be a deterrent. Do not break into the United States of America. If you do, we will come after you. Dana Bash also asking Homan about this and listen to his response.
Brian
The communities in sanctuary cities.
Dana Bash
Well, but you just said that there are, quote, collateral arrests and that is sparking fear in communities where people are again, scared to go out. So I guess my question is, do you have compassion for those people who are are seeing what's going on, Hearing you speak, seeing what's happening in their neighborhoods, shouldn't have any concern, but do just because of the reality.
Brian
You know, Dana, the bottom line is if you want less collateral arrest and let us in the jail. I mean, we want to arrest a bad guy in the safety and security of a county jail with sanctuary cities, release him in his community, which means we got to go to the community and find him. And when we find that bad person, many, many times, whether it's at a work site or in a community, they're with other people, other people in the United States illegally. And we're going to let ICE enforce law, uphold the oath they took. We're not going to be like the last administration who told ice, instructed ice, you can't arrest somebody for simply being here legally. They got to be convicted of a serious offense. That's not what the law says. We're enforcing the law. But look, immigration enforcement, I'm going to be clear. Immigration enforcement has always been emotional. It's always been controversial. I've been doing this since 1984. I get it. And I understand why people want to come to the greatest nation on earth. I get it. But we can send a message to the whole world that it's okay to enter this country legally. Don't worry about it. Even though it's a crime. Come and enter illegally and when you get order of removal from a judge, you don't have to leave. You can become effusive and we'll never look for it. We got to send a message to the whole world there are consequences of breaking laws. And I think that's why one of the reasons we have the most secure border in history of this nation today, it's just not because we got boots on the ground on the border and not because we ended catch or leaves a lot of its consequences. You're watching what's happening. We're enforcing the immigration law. I think that consequence has a lot to do with having the most secure border in the history of this nation.
Ben Ferguson

The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson
Episode: One Year Later, Trump Reflects on Survival & Mission plus Inside Alligator Alcatraz
Release Date: July 14, 2025
Introduction
In this episode of The 47 Morning Update, host Ben Ferguson delves into two significant topics shaping the current political landscape. The discussion centers around the one-year anniversary of the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump and the controversy surrounding the Everglades Detention Center, colloquially dubbed "Alligator Alcatraz." Ferguson provides unfiltered insights, exclusive interviews, and honest commentary on these pressing issues.
1. Reflecting on the Assassination Attempt: President Trump's One-Year Anniversary
Timestamp: 00:00 – 07:16
Ben Ferguson opens the episode by addressing the one-year mark since the assassination attempt on President Donald Trump in Butler, Pennsylvania. Contrary to widespread concern, President Trump downplays the event, emphasizing his focus on fulfilling his mission to "put Americans first."
President Trump's Perspective:
Reflecting on the assassination attempt, President Trump stated, “[...] they briefed me and I'm satisfied with it. [...] there were mistakes made and that, you know, I have great confidence in these people.” (03:24)
He further elaborates on the dangers of the presidency, comparing it to high-risk professions and asserting his commitment to the country's prosperity: “...making it a different level now. It's been, especially this last couple of weeks has been pretty amazing.” (07:16)
Mission Statement:
The President reiterated his dedication to the American people, highlighting achievements such as the "big, beautiful bill" aimed at tax reforms and economic stimulation: “It's unbelievable. It's the most incredible bill, one of the most incredible bills ever passed.” (06:20)
Assassination Attempt Reflections:
President Trump downplays the assassination attempt, expressing confidence in his administration's ability to safeguard the nation: “This is a very dangerous job being president.” (03:24)
2. Inside "Alligator Alcatraz": Debunking Media Narratives
Timestamp: 07:38 – 15:47
The second major topic Ferguson tackles is the Everglades Detention Center, derogatorily nicknamed "Alligator Alcatraz" by media outlets. The facility, located at the Dave Collier Airport in the Florida Everglades, has become a focal point in the immigration debate.
Media Claims vs. Administration's Defense:
Democratic officials have painted a grim picture of the detention center, alleging conditions such as "overcrowded cages," "lack of sanitation," and "worm-infested food." They claimed detainees are denied legal access and endure extreme heat, sparking outrage.
In contrast, Republican officials, including Ben Ferguson, assert that these claims are unfounded. Brian, presumably a Trump administration representative, counters these allegations by emphasizing the high standards maintained: “You can simply go to ice.gov and look at the detention standards ICE has. They have the highest detention standards in the industry.” (12:36)
Political Implications:
Ferguson highlights the administration's efforts to secure the southern border, referencing the arrest of 30,000 undocumented migrants in June alone. He underscores the administration's focus on detaining individuals with criminal records and those facing pending charges: “Among those apprehended since January, only about 18,000 so far have actually been deported...” (12:00)
Exclusive Interview Insights:
During an interview with Dana Bash on CNN, Brian defends the detention center against accusations, arguing that previous administrations failed to secure the border effectively. He stated, “We have the most secure border in the history of this nation today...” (15:47)
Public and Political Reactions:
The detention center has become a litmus test for the administration's immigration policies. While supporters applaud the measures as necessary deterrents, critics label them as inhumane. Ferguson leans towards the former, emphasizing national security and the rule of law.
Conclusion
Ben Ferguson's The 47 Morning Update provides a comprehensive look into the challenges and triumphs faced by President Trump's administration over the past year. By dissecting critical events such as the assassination attempt and the operational standards of the Everglades Detention Center, Ferguson offers listeners a nuanced perspective that counters mainstream media narratives. This episode underscores the administration's commitment to national security, economic prosperity, and maintaining America's standing on the global stage.
