You're listening to the 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson.
Good Monday morning. Nice to have you with us on the 47 Morning Update. Ben Ferguson with you. And here are the three big stories you need to know about that we're going to talk about today. First up, Arizona's Democratic Governor Hobbs has vetoed a bill requiring police to cooperate with ice. Why did she do it? To protect illegal immigrants, including those that are in terrorist organizations. I'll break that down for you in just a moment. Also, Harvard and the Trump administration are at it again. This time Donald Trump is planning to cut another billion dollars from Harvard after Harvard is refusing to cooperate when it comes to getting activists that are advocating for terrorists off their campuses. And finally, in a shocking story, a New Mexico Democratic judge has been forced to resign after ICE arrested an alleged Trin de Aragu gang member living in his Home. It's the 47 Morning Update and it starts right now.
Story number one, radical Democrats.
Democrats are at it again. This time, left wing Arizona Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs has vetoed a bill passed by the state legislature, supported by the citizens of Arizona that would simply require local and state law enforcement to do their jobs by cooperating with federal immigration officials. You know them as ice. The Republican led legislature passed a very simple bill that outlined local jurisdictions from passing ordinances that would prevent local police from working with federal immigration authorities or block federal immigration actions and funding. Now this is something that obviously is very popular in Arizona. The citizens there are sick and tired of countless illegal immigrants not being handed over to ICE when they are found to have broken the law. And the left has obviously been a big fan of this. Well, this bill was put in place to set the record straight of what the law says in Arizona. And this bill would have also required locals to cooperate on immigration detainers and also to inform federal officials about immigrants being held in custody right now that were about to be released from jails and or prisons. Again, this is what the federal law says you should do. This is not radical. And most importantly, this is what the people in Arizona voted for. Now, supporters of the bill said the measure was needed to help the federal government have a safer and more orderly system of taking foreign criminals into custody for deportation and also for state officials to be, quote, a partner and not an obstacle to federal immigration policies and laws. But what did the governor do? The governor insisted in her veto statement that it is wrong, quote, to force state and local officials to take marching orders from Washington. Yes. She's now saying, I am not going to do what the federal government says or abide by what the laws say from the federal government. Now, the bill would also have required state jails and prisons to enter into agreements with the federal government to temporarily house detainees that are awaiting deportation until ICE can get involved. Further, the bill would require the state to withhold funds also from jurisdictions that deliberately violated the new law. Again, Arizona, the people voted for this and the legislature listened. But the governor. No, no, no. Hobbs veto runs contrary also to polls showing that voters are increasingly leaning towards stricter immigration policies. Last year, for instance, polled showed that 63% of Arizonans supported Proposition 314, a measure that would criminalize entering the state illegally. Another poll last year found that a strong majority in Arizona felt that the US had lost control also over the border under Joe Biden. And once the dust settled from last year's elections, Arizonans had sent more Republicans to the state legislature. And in November, the Arizona speaker elect told the state as well as the media that Arizonans had rejected the Democratic Governor Hobbs and her agenda by expanding Republicans control over the state House. So yet again, here we are with another activist in our government, this time the Arizona governor vetoing a bill requiring police to cooperate with ice. What's even more shocking is many of the people that are being released into the community are violent offenders. Many of them that have had to be in jail for the crimes they committed, that are actually needing to then be deported from the country are being released from jail, and they are not telling the federal authorities, so they're being released among us. Many of them stay in Arizona, and many of them travel all over the country. Now the question becomes this. How would the Trump administration respond? How would the Department of Justice respond? How would the Attorney General respond? How would the Department of Homeland Security respond? It's very clear this is a test case for others, specifically in the Democratic Party as to what happens when you, as a governor, decide to stand up to the people in your state, as well as to the federal government and not abide by federal immigration laws. I expect this case to play out and I expect that the Trump administration will have all hands on deck when it comes to standing up to this radical left governor in Arizona.
Next story number two, the Trump administration.
Seems to be playing chess while Harvard is playing checkers. The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that the Trump administration is planning to cut 1 billion more from Harvard after tensions have continued to escalate. Now, the Trump administration is now planning to pull that other 1 billion in federal grants and contracts for health research from Harvard University amid the escalating high stakes battle between the government and the university over institutional oversight and independence. This again coming from the Wall Street Journal. Last month, the Trump administration announced it would freeze 2.2 billion and multi year grants and 60 million in multi year contract value after Harvard said it would follow policy demands from the Trump administration. People familiar with the matter said officials were surprised when the university made public a letter from the Task Force to Combat Anti Semitism. Before Monday, quote, the administration was planning to treat Harvard more leniently than Columbia University. But now officials want to apply even more pressure the nation's most prominent university, according to people talking to the journal. Others familiar with Harvard's response say there was no guarantee or no agreement to keep the letter private and that its contents, including requirements at Harvard, allow federal government oversight of admissions and the ideology of students and staff, were a, quote, non starter. Last month, apparently conceding to administration demands, Columbia University made policy changes in a dispute over federal funding, including restrictions on demonstrations, new disciplinary procedures, and immediately reviewing its Middle east curriculum on the heels of President Donald Trump's revocation of 400 million in federal funding over campus protests that were clearly anti Semitic. Now here's the newest response from the Trump administration. They have announced that Harvard University, quote, must provide information on misconduct involving foreign students by April 30th or else it will lose the ability to enroll them at all. The Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, sang in a press statement that she was canceling 2.7 million in grants awarded by her department, one that had produced a study disparaging conservatives as a security risk. Yes, your tax dollars paid for that study. And another study that Kristi Noem said had promoted, quote, public health propaganda about the coronavirus pandemic. In addition to that, Noem said this, the secretary also wrote a scathing letter demanding detailed records on Harvard's foreign student visa holders, illegal and violent activities. By April 30th or face immediate loss of student and exchange visa program certification known as the SEVP program. Quote, Harvard bending the need to anti Semitism, driven by its spineless leadership, fuels a cesspool of extremism riots and threatens our national security, the Secretary said. With anti American pro Hamas ideology poisoning its campus and classrooms, Harvard's position as a top institution of higher learning is a distant memory. America demands more from universities entrusted with taxpayer dollars. Now, since Hamas's October 7th attack on Israel, Harvard's foreign visa holding riders and faculty have spewed anti Semitic hate targeting Jewish students. With a $53.2 billion endowment, Harvard can fund its own chaos. DHS won't, Noam continued. And if Harvard cannot verify it is in full compliance with its reporting requirements, the university will lose the privilege of enrolling foreign students. Krissy Noem, clearly speaking on behalf of the President, making it clear that they're not putting up with this any longer. Now, Harvard has struggled with anti Israel encampments and anti Semitic protests since the October 7 terror attack by Hamas, which dozens of Harvard student organizations blamed on Israel. In a signed statement, more than one in four students at Harvard is an international student, with 27.2% of the entire student body, graduate and undergraduate, being from overseas. In fact, some 6,793 students are from abroad, according to the university's own data. There is a correlation between elite, expensive colleges and the likelihood of anti Israel encampments. Krissy Noem went on to say the high presence of foreign students at more elite institutions may be one explanation for this phenomenon. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also getting in on the action. He has said that the US had already deported hundreds of foreign students who were involved in radical protests in the past 18 months, which have brought anti Semitism to many college campuses. Now, Harvard has vowed to fight the Trump administration's directives on fighting anti Semitism. Among other changes, though, some 9 billion in federal grants are now at stake, 2.2 billion of which have been suspended. Now, as I mentioned earlier, the Trump administration has also ordered the Internal Revenue Service to prepare to revoke Harvard's tax exempt status, which has also allowed it to amass a $53 billion endowment. Translation, Donald Trump's not putting up with this any longer on college campuses, especially those that accept our tax dollars.
And lastly, story number three, there's a.
Pretty interesting trend that is happening now with the Democratic Party. They are now in love with terrorists, terrorists that are in radical gangs in this country, and they're doing everything they can to protect them instead the American people. We've seen this from congressmen and senators that are running down to meet with Ms. 13 gang members held in Venezuela, for example. And now we may know a little bit more about just how corrupt the Democratic Party is, how compromised they are by these gangs that have been declared terrorist organizations. Look to the new headline. A Democratic judge in New Mexico has been forced to resign from his bench after immigration agents arrested a alleged Trend Gang member living in his home. The illegal alien entered into the U. S in El Paso, Texas before being released on an immigration parole due to overcrowding. He eventually moved, we've now learned, to New Mexico. Federal prosecutors in the District of New Mexico alleged that the 23 year old was illegally in possession of a firearm and has direct ties to the hyperviolent Venezuelan gang. Earlier this year, President Donald Trump and the U.S. state Department declared the gang to be a foreign terrorist organization. Police arrested Lopez while executing a search warrant on February 28th at the home of Donna Ana County, New Mexico magistrate judge and his wife. The Albuquerque Journal is reporting now. The report follows a detention hearing where prosecutors claim the illegal alien is a flight risk and an alleged Trende Araga gang member. Kano, a former police officer, allowed the gang member to file a request for immigration relief using the judge's residential address. This isn't a joke. Now that's not all. We also now in court exhibits have seen pictures that were posted on social media of the foreign national with the judge. Yes, they're good friends. Court records obtained reveal that Lopez, a Venezuelan national, entered the United States illegally in Eagle Pass during the peak of the Biden border crisis in December of 2023 and then due to overcrowding in the Eagle Pass detention facility, he was released three days later. Social media posts obtained by the U.S. attorney's office for the District of New Mexico show Lopez and other illegal aliens at a shooting range. They appear to be in possession of multiple firearms and a large quantity of handguns and rifle ammunition. In one image, the man is also holding an AR15 style rifle in one hand and a semi automatic pistol in the other. A video shows the Venezuelan migrant in possession of another AR15 equipped with a suppressor. He fired the rifle until it was empty and then reloaded it with a new magazine which he continued to fire. The prosecutor stated. Now the photos and videos show Lopez displaying the Trend Gang tattoos. The United States government recently declared this violent gang to be a, quote, transnational criminal organization as well. Investigators found additional firearms in a neighboring home owned by Nancy Kano's daughter. That would be the judge's daughter. Lopez was seen in possession of several of these firearms. Investigators report that the Venezuelan national move to El Paso after being released by Border Patrol agents. There, he roomed with five other people, court documents state. And while living there, Lopez met Nancy Kano and began doing construction and handy man jobs. Kano extended an offer for the illegal alien to live in the casita behind her home. Now, other images from Lopez's cell phone obtained by Breitbart News show graphic images of multiple decapitated and mutilated bodies. Let me say that again. Other images from Lopez's phone obtained by Breitbart News show graphic images of multiple decapitated and mutilated bodies. Lopez is currently in the Donna Ana County Detention center where he's charged with being an illegal alien in possession of firearms. Now, it's not clear if Judge Kano or his wife Nancy will be charged with harboring an illegal alien or providing material support to a foreign terrorist organization. But if you want to know whose side the left is on, well, just take a look at this New Mexico Democratic judge and what did it cost him when he was busted for all this? Oh, he had just had to resign after ICE arrested the gang member in his home.

Podcast Summary: The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson
Episode Title: Trump goes to War w Harvard & Dem Judge gets Busted w Gang Member in his Home
Release Date: April 21, 2025
The 47 Morning Update with Ben Ferguson, hosted by renowned radio personality and political commentator Ben Ferguson, delivers a comprehensive analysis of the latest political developments shaping America. In this episode, Ben delves into three major stories: Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs' veto of an anti-ICE bill, the Trump administration's escalating conflict with Harvard University, and the resignation of a New Mexico Democratic judge amidst allegations of harboring a gang member.
Timestamp: [03:32] – [09:20]
Overview: Arizona's Democratic Governor, Katie Hobbs, has made headlines by vetoing a state legislature bill that mandates cooperation between local law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The bill, strongly supported by Arizona's citizens and passed by a Republican-led legislature, aimed to streamline the deportation process and enhance public safety by ensuring that illegal immigrants, including those involved in terrorism, are handed over to federal authorities.
Key Points:
Legislative Intent: The bill sought to prevent local jurisdictions from enacting ordinances that hinder ICE's operations, aligning state law with federal immigration policies. It also required local law enforcement to honor immigration detainers and report detainees pending release to federal officials.
Governor Hobbs' Stance: In her veto statement, Governor Hobbs criticized the legislation as "wrong" for compelling state and local officials to "take marching orders from Washington." She emphasized the need for state autonomy over immigration enforcement, despite the bill's popularity among Arizonans.
Public Sentiment: Polls indicate strong support for stricter immigration measures in Arizona. Last year, 63% of Arizonans backed Proposition 314, criminalizing illegal entry into the state, and a majority believe the U.S. has lost control over the border under the Biden administration.
Potential Federal Reaction: Ben Ferguson anticipates a robust response from the Trump administration, including possible involvement from the Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security, viewing Governor Hobbs' veto as a challenge to federal authority.
Notable Quote: Governor Hobbs stated, "I am not going to do what the federal government says or abide by what the laws say from the federal government." ([04:32])
Timestamp: [09:23] – [15:01]
Overview: The Trump administration has intensified its crackdown on Harvard University by planning to withdraw an additional $1 billion in federal grants and contracts. This move follows Harvard's resistance to government demands aimed at mitigating campus activism deemed supportive of terrorist organizations.
Key Points:
Financial Penalties: Building on a previous freeze of $2.2 billion in grants and $60 million in contracts, the administration seeks further financial pressure on Harvard. Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced the cancellation of $2.7 million in DHS grants, citing Harvard's alleged promotion of "public health propaganda" and anti-Semitic sentiments post-Hamas attacks.
Reasons for the Conflict: The Trump administration accuses Harvard of allowing anti-Israel and pro-Hamas ideologies to flourish on campus, exacerbating national security concerns. The administration demands detailed reports on foreign students involved in misconduct, threatening the loss of visa program certifications if Harvard fails to comply by April 30th.
Harvard's Response: Harvard has pledged to contest the administration's directives, arguing that the requirements infringe upon institutional independence and academic freedom. The university highlights its significant international student population, which constitutes over 27% of its student body.
Comparison with Other Universities: The administration's actions come after similar disputes with Columbia University, which faced revocation of $400 million in federal funding over campus protests. Secretary Noem criticized Columbia's policy changes as insufficient, prompting a more severe stance against Harvard.
Notable Quote: Secretary Noem declared, "Harvard bending the need to anti Semitism, driven by its spineless leadership, fuels a cesspool of extremism, riots, and threatens our national security." ([09:23])
Timestamp: [15:03] – [19:44]
Overview: In a shocking turn of events, a Democratic magistrate judge in Santa Ana County, New Mexico, has been compelled to resign following the arrest of an alleged member of the Trinde Aragu gang residing in his home. This incident underscores the growing concerns over the Democratic Party's alleged leniency towards individuals associated with terrorist organizations.
Key Points:
The Incident: ICE agents arrested Lopez, a 23-year-old Venezuelan national and Trinde Aragu gang member, at the judge's residence. Lopez was previously released on immigration parole due to overcrowding at the Eagle Pass detention facility before relocating to New Mexico.
Allegations Against the Judge: Prosecutors allege that Judge Kano, a former police officer, allowed Lopez to file for immigration relief using his residential address, effectively harboring an illegal alien linked to a terrorist organization.
Evidence Presented: Court exhibits include social media photos and videos showing Lopez possessing multiple firearms, visibly displaying Trinde Aragu tattoos, and participating in violent activities such as firing an AR15 with a suppressor.
Consequences: While it remains unclear if Judge Kano or his wife will face charges for harboring Lopez, the scandal has already tarnished his judicial career, highlighting alleged corruption and the Democratic Party's compromised stance on national security.
Broader Implications: Ben Ferguson suggests that this case exemplifies the Democratic Party's prioritization of protecting individuals associated with extremist groups over the safety and interests of American citizens.
Notable Quote: Ben Ferguson remarked, "Now, many of the people that are being released into the community are violent offenders... they're being released among us." ([15:03])
In this episode, Ben Ferguson presents a critical examination of actions by Democratic officials that he argues undermine national security and state sovereignty. From Governor Hobbs' resistance to federal immigration policies to the Trump administration's aggressive stance against Harvard's alleged support of extremist ideologies, and the resignation of a New Mexico judge implicated in harboring a gang member, the episode underscores a narrative of conflict between local/state authorities and federal mandates. Ferguson anticipates further confrontations as these issues develop, emphasizing the broader implications for American governance and public safety.
Closing Quote: Ben Ferguson concluded, "It's very clear this is a test case for others, specifically in the Democratic Party as to what happens when you, as a governor, decide to stand up to the people in your state, as well as to the federal government and not abide by federal immigration laws." ([04:32])
