The Daily Pitch is a story of a startup with Dr. Ben Olmos, who's our guest today, also known as Ben. He looks like a friendly man because he is. We've had a good conversation before starting this interview today and he's going to take us through his journey of being an author, starting a media company, being a consultant, and being successful in packaged goods. All sorts of good information is going to be shared during this call. Ben, welcome to the show, the Amazing authority that you are.
C (1:11)
Thank you, Mitch. I appreciate it. It's great to be here.

How did you end up writing a book? I like to hear that. Author journey.
C (1:20)
Absolutely. So I think like a lot of authors, it's something that you dream about doing for a long time. You kick ideas around in your. And you know, I thought about it, it's actually in the, in the intro of my book. I thought about it for a little bit and you know, I kind of initially thought about telling my story of kind of becoming and getting into business. I'm Dr. Ben almost now, but there was a time that nobody expected that to ever happen. I like to say in school I passed all my classes on the way to my car and wasn't necessarily a stellar student. In fact, I didn't even go to college until, gosh, into my early twenties. Didn't even bother. I went to work, worked a lot of very laborious jobs and I finally got a break working for Coca Cola. Very low level job, earning $5.50 an hour. And really that kind of lit the fuse on my rocket and you know, kind of took it from there. Went to school, got my undergrad, got my MBA, eventually my PhD. And in that time I also started being an adjunct professor while I was working in the CPG industry. And what I realized is that there's probably a lot of people out there who self doubt who aren't confident in what they know or think that somehow these people are special who rise to these levels where, you know, in my past I worked with customers like McDonald's and Disney, Walmart, some of the biggest companies in, in around the world. And what I wanted to do was kind of take all of what I learned all what I learned in my business career, all that I've learned in academia, and really boil it down to some common things that I've come across throughout my career. And what I ended up doing was focusing on 10 topics to help managers, leaders, and entrepreneurs get better at what they do. That's kind of the title of the book. And the idea is to really focus on these topics and not, you know, like some books draw from a lot of personal experience and a lot of kind of self reflection, their own personal knowledge. And I wanted to do that, but I also wanted to blend it with researched information as well. So at the end of every one of these chapters, you'll find all of the references that I went through to kind of put the chapter together, whether it was guests that I've had on my podcast or research papers that I dug up and, you know, brought into the context of the chapter.
