He leaves behind his wife, 4 children and the dozens of people whose lives he saved on October 7 in Ofakim, Israel. Itamar, a border police officer, was off-duty when he heard gunfire in his home town on the morning of October 7.Sixteen terrorists came to the city that day, planning to murder and take hostages. Thanks to his heroism, and that of his neighbors, all 16 of the terrorists were killed and no hostages were taken. He saved the life of a Rabbi and an IDF soldier by shielding them from gunfire, he saved the life of the Biliya family, who were hiding under the solar panels of a neighbor’s roof. He was brave and he was selfless.We met Itamar when we went to Israel to interview the survivors of that horrible day.That is why we are honored to tell his story in the OCTOBER 7 play. The world needs more Itamars. Itamar’s story is the backbone of the play and we hope that you can come to the Kennedy Center on January 28th to see his heroism on stage. We then got “friendly inquiries” from CNN and The Washington Post asking if we were cancelling. This is designed to intimidate us and our cast and crew. It’s like the mafia expressing concern for that nice restaurant - it would be a shame if something happened to it. They want us to buckle under the pressure. We will NOT.Below is our statement on the cancellation attempt. The OCTOBER 7 play will absolutely be on stage on January 28th.Good riddance to these taxpayer-funded cosplaying rebels. They seem to think producing art is about them feeling comfortable and cozy. Artists should always go where they feel uncomfortable, even unwanted—if they want to change the world, that's where they should be, instead of speaking into their taxpayer-funded echo chamber.These performative walkouts are for their friends and funders—they don't care about the wider audience or creating new audiences. And they wonder why so many theaters are struggling?Even their friends are bored with the woke, clichéd, and hectoring art they are producing. "Doug Varone and Dancers," the New York dance company, said their walkout was "morally exhilarating."That's very telling.They create to make themselves feel better, not the audience.We create to bring the truth to the audience. Good to see these woke “artists” leave the stage. We are excited to announce that Abby Polin, aunt of Israeli hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin, will be joining us at the Bowdoin performance of OCTOBER 7 the play. As a family member who has lived through the unimaginable pain of October 7, Abby will speak about her family’s experiences and the urgent need to bring the remaining hostages home.Here is a message from Abby who was in the audience when the play ran off-Broadway in New York. "I would like to thank all those involved in bringing OCTOBER 7 to Bowdoin. When I first saw the play in New York in June, 2024 I did not know quite what to expect but was overwhelmed by the authenticity and intensity of how the producers clearly portrayed what happened on that horrific day in Israel... The unedited and raw transcripts from interviews with victims, soldiers, and first responders, that were used for the verbatim play characterized what my family experienced being a family of a then severely injured hostage. My nephew Hersh Goldberg Polin was one of the beautiful six young people murdered by terrorists in the tunnels in Gaza after being starved and tortured for 330 days,” she said.“It is important for me to come to Bowdoin to continue to keep up the awareness for the necessity to bring home NOW the remaining 48 hostages being held in Gaza. Everyone from all nationalities, religions and beliefs should have the opportunity to see OCTOBER 7 the play to see what people experienced that day and to gain a better understanding of the situation in that region of the world."OCTOBER 7 is our verbatim play that consists entirely of the words of those who live through Israel’s darkest day when Hamas slaughtered 1,200 people and kidnapped hundreds of others. It has never been more important to bring the truth about that day to college campuses so we are bringing OCTOBER 7 the play to Bowdoin College in Maine. Bowdoin is a prominent college and it was plagued with pro-Palestinian encampments and intimidation after the October 7 massacres. However the world is changing. We have been invited to bring the play to the campus. OCTOBER 7 the play is a verbatim account of what happened on Israel's darkest day- in the words of those who lived through it.
