The birch Show.
Kristen
We have stagers.
Bert
Okay. We were just telling Jackson last night. Just want to let you know. Yeah, don't be stressed, dude, because Jackson is playing the part of Tommy this year. Don't be stressed about this first segment because 50% of the time something goes wrong for sure. And it did.
Kristen
It did.
Bert
Yeah.
Kristen
And actually it was your fault.
Bert
It was my fault this year.
Kristen
So that should make Amber's back in the Q997 studio. So that should make her feel better. So we're good, man.
Bert
So that's how we're starting.
Kristen
You. You needed to get the first turnover of the ball game.
Bert
Yeah.
Kristen
And you did. So thank you, sir.
Bert
It was the first play of the game and it was a pick six. Okay. It's burst big adventure 2026. For those of you that promised me in my DMs. Don't worry about it. It'll be like, it's like riding a bike. You guys were wrong. I will tell you this right now, that now I have way more empathy for all the kids and burst big adventure families that get up this early in the morning and join us. And this is not part of their regular schedule. And we'd come in here every single year and we'd be like, oh, it's the big deal. It's just one morning. So I've done this for too many years. 25 in Atlanta and got up at 3:30 or 4:00 clock in the morning. Really not a problem if you're doing it regularly. But now that I haven't been doing it for a couple of months, that alarm was early and loud. Yeah.
Kristen
How many times do you hit snooze?
Bert
Well, I was having a tough time sleeping last night. It was one of those nights that I. I kept getting up like every half an hour thinking I was gonna miss the alarm.
Kristen
I did the same thing.
Bert
So I was staring at the ceiling before the alarm even started.
Kristen
Yeah, this. This is the earliest I've gotten up since the last show we did together.
Bert
So now we have a lot more empathy for the kids that are here. Some of them were down here before we were.
Kristen
Yeah, I know. That made me feel bad. But you know what? They also know they're going to Disney today.
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
Yeah.
Phoebe
Right.
Kristen
So there's a little bit of excitement
Bert
in the air, and a lot of them probably weren't sleeping the same way I wasn't sleeping last night. So for those of you that might be new around here and don't know what Bert's big advent all about, buckle in.
Kristen
Yes.
Bert
Because this is a heck of a couple of days we got going on here. Birch Big Adventure is the trip that we take down to Disney World every year with some really special kids that have had it kind of tough. Right. So what we do is we take the kids and we take everybody in the family and we go VIP down to Disney World all the way. And we shower these guys with love and connection and souvenirs. A whole bunch of souvenirs.
Kristen
Who's the best at buying souvenirs?
Bert
For sure. No matter what, it's you.
Kristen
I get the. I get the award every year. However, the treasurer of the board might not be happy about that.
Bert
So it all starts sort of yesterday and last night when everybody is gathered for the very first time. And that's when. Although I wasn't at orientation this year because I was traveling for my retirement trip, orientation for us, when we meet beforehand is kind of like, everybody's eyes are like deers in a head or a head.
Kristen
Yeah, there's a headline.
Bert
There's a headline.
Kristen
You're there.
Bert
I'm still new at this again.
Stacy
You're good.
Kristen
Have another sip of coffee.
Bert
It's going to take more than that. And so it's really just like a whole bunch of instructions and everybody's really not sure what to expect. So there's really not a lot of chemistry.
Kristen
Just in most cases, there's some hesitation coming in.
Bert
Yeah.
Kristen
And we're.
Bert
We're.
Kristen
I don't want to. We're not an intimidating group, but my God, we got a lot of energy.
Bert
We do.
Kristen
And when you come into a room and you have everybody, that's like, we can. I. You know, we just. We don't come in soft. We come in hard every single time.
Bert
And you're also. We've got a group of people here. Some have been on planes before, some have been on vacations before. Some have never been on a plane before. Some haven't had their own vacation together, so they're not even exactly sure what to expect. So there's a lot of detail. So orientation is one thing that was a couple of weeks ago last night is when it really starts to come together and you can really feel the connection in the family.
Kristen
Yeah. So we're here at the Hilton Atlanta Airport Hotel. We're actually in the ballroom room right now. But the reason why we have, like the welcome party the night before when you have a child with special needs, any, you know, anything. Right. And we have quite a few kiddos that are. Need wheelchairs this year. It takes a lot to get out of the house and to get somewhere. So the idea that we would send them from their homes here at this time of the morning, Absolutely no way. So we bring everybody here the night before and we. We literally roll out the red carpet. So we have a. We have a red carpet. We have. There were so many characters here last night. The Star wars characters, princesses galore, lining the red carpet. All of our volunteers who are so incredible signs for the families. CHEERING We've learned over the years to ask the kids prior to walking down the red carpet if they like loud noises.
Bert
Right. And they all said yes.
Phoebe
They do.
Bert
Pretty much like, let's go. Bring it on.
Kristen
Well, we got a lot of boys this year.
Bert
Yeah, it was going to be.
Kristen
It's going to be a rowdy group. I already feel it.
Bert
It's going to be rougher.
Kristen
Yeah.
Bert
The one thing I did like about last Night. Because there are so many boys. There was way less dancing. I was a fan of that.
Phoebe
Yeah.
Kristen
War you. So. Yeah. So all the families we gather. Zaxby's catered our dinner last night. Fred, thank you so much. Every single year, we can count on them to come in the. The one of the cutest things like because we're already clocking core memories, right. For the 2026 trip. So Kendall's family had arrived. And again, I want you to know, there's stormtroopers, there's Darth Vader, there's Cinderella, there's Moana. Like, there are. It's a star studded red carpet. Okay. And Kendall's little brother saw the meter from Gas South.
Bert
That was so funny.
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
He.
Bert
It's a. You have to explain sort of what the mascot meter looks.
Kristen
So it's Gas South. So it's like a gas meter that you find on the outside of your house. It's literally the meter mascot. So that's this person that's in this entire meter or. Excuse me, not a person. It is the Met.
Bert
It even says on there Mr. Meter.
Kristen
Mr. Meter. And Kendall's little brother was obsessed with Mr. Meter. Would not let go of Mr. Meter's hand.
Bert
Yeah. South was so happy.
Kristen
Oh, my gosh. Carly was over the moon. And I, like, I have never seen a child so obsessed with the gas meter before. This is might be already one of my favorite moments of Burt's Big Adventure.
Bert
So that's really kind of how it all starts. It starts last night and then this morning we all congregate in this big old ballroom that is decorated, I mean, so well, you could just. It feels like Disney in here. And this is really where it all starts.
Kristen
Yeah. So we have to give a. Like, when you look at this ballroom that is so decked out and you know, we got the Q9097 tent there in the back. Messy Mikey is going to be back there messing around with the kids. And thank you again to Q9097 for letting us do this broadcast. This year they have fully embraced Burt's Big adventure. So when they found out you were retiring, they were a little bit sad. You kind of bring in some ratings, but there was no hesitation. Like, no. What? Our PD Patrick has said that every radio station needs a heart. And Q9097's heart is Burt's big Adventure.
Bert
It's pretty cool.
Kristen
It's very cool.
Bert
That's pretty cool.
Kristen
So Q997 is here. We have like, we have a bouncy house in A ballroom as one does. And let me just tell you, the decor and the balloons always make it so. DeShawn and Holland Musico at Balloonisy. You guys crush it every single year.
Bert
We thought it would be smart this year because Kristen and I are just crusty old veterans when it comes to Burt's Big Adventure is to bring in our rookies to kind of see what they're expecting from Burt's Big Adventure this year. They've sort of seen it from the outside, but not the inside. So we have Lala here as the manager of corporate partnerships for Burke's Big Adventure. And Stacy, she's on the board of directors with Gas South. Also, congratulations on your big win last night with Mr. Meter. That was huge.
Stacy
I don't think that'll be his last experience with Mr. Meter.
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
Okay, good.
Kristen
He'll see Mr.
Stacy
Meter again.
Bert
Good. So what are you guys expecting this year? Because you've experienced it sort of from the outside looking. So Stacy, what are your thoughts?
Stacy
Well, I'm so excited. I see through other events and behind the scenes the bonds that the whole Burt's Big Adventure team has made with the families. And it's so close. The kids are so genuinely affectionate to you all. And I'm expecting to make some bonds. Yeah, I want in on that.
Bert
For sure. It'll happen.
Stacy
And then probably some happy chaos.
Bert
You'll find yourself fighting over some kids.
Kristen
Oh, yeah.
Bert
Like you'll start to get a little bit jealous. Like, I don't like that Kristen already has been hanging out with Forrest so much because that's like, it's almost like a parking spot that you park in every. It's not yours, but you just kind of feel like it is. I hung out with Forest for about three minutes and I'm like, that's my kid. And Kristen dominated his time yesterday.
Kristen
You're not gonna win that one.
Bert
No, I don't think so.
Kristen
David's in on it too.
Bert
Yeah, right.
Kristen
David weaseled his way in on it too.
Bert
Yeah, we got a three way competition and you'll find that with a bunch of kids as the week and progresses also.
Kristen
Oh, but Stacy, my favorite is when a child despises Burt.
Bert
It happens. Georgia.
Rocket Money Advertiser
Georgia.
Bert
It took her 10 years to warm up to me, but she finally did. But she literally, as soon as she would see me would start screaming, no.
Kristen
Yes.
Rocket Money Advertiser
No, Bert.
Bert
But my name's on the shirt. You have to love me.
Kristen
She did not care.
Bert
She did not care at all. All right, Lala, how about you?
Kristen
I think more the same. It's the connections in the community that I'm just so looking forward to being a part of the behind the scenes. I'm overwhelmed with the amount of thought, care and intentionality that has gone into this and I'm honored and excited to be a part of it in building this community and having a ton of fun that that is guaranteed. And I love what you said about the intentionality because Bird has purposely kept this trip smaller so he could have. You could have grown this over the years. And there were some sponsors who were like, yeah, no, sorry, but this is, this is too small for us. We want something bigger to contribute to. But we realized by keeping it to like 12, 12 kids, 11, 12 families, that we could give them that individual love and really focus on their wants and their needs and make sure that we can. It's not even about catering to them, but really making that bond and that connection. And I think that's so key with keeping smaller. So it's a more tight knit family
Bert
and we get to do a lot of really cool VIP things that if it was a bigger trip, they wouldn't be able to provide for everybody. And the last thing that we wanted from day number one is really, okay, here we are at Disney World. Go enjoy it. We'll see you on Monday. That's not what we wanted at all. So our staff hangs with all of the kids all weekend long. Most of us, most of them go on roller coasters with the kids.
Kristen
I'm already seeing, like, bonds form between the families, like, like, because, you know, siblings and then the Burt's Big Adventure kids. And you can tell, like, staff talking be like, oh, yeah, we're going to be hanging out in the park all day together because our families are like, super tight now.
Bert
Yep. All right, so give us a couple of seconds here and we'll. I mean, we've officially started the thing.
Kristen
We did it.
Bert
But each and every year we have some traditions on Birch Big Adventure. And we have one family that sort of reads a letter or gives an experience of what it was like for them last year. And if you remember, last year we had a private VIP concert we did
Kristen
with Mr. Andy Grammer.
Bert
Right. That's the family that we're bringing on next to tell you guys what to expect this year on Burt's Big Adventure. 2026, the Burt Show.

Five years ago, I was paying $65 a month for my subscriptions. Today, those Same subscriptions cost $111 and I don't even use half of them anymore. That's why now I use Rocket Money to manage my subscriptions for me. The app gives you a list of all your subscriptions and reminds you of upcoming payments so you're not hit with any surprise charges. On top of that, it also sends you alerts when subscription prices go up, so you always know the price you're paying. If you decide you no longer want a subscription, you can cancel it right from the app. No customer service needed. And the best part is, Rocket Money even reaches out and tries to get you refunded for some of the money you lost. On average, people that cancel their subscriptions with rocket money save $378 a year. And overall, Rocket Money has saved its members $880 million in canceled subscriptions. Stop wasting money on things you don't use. Go to rocketmoney.com cancel to get started, that's rocketmoney.com cancel rocketmoney.com cancel.

Jack Harndale was helping his daughter Emily lift an awkward dresser up a staircase when he slipped and fell backwards. A week later, Emily asked him how he was doing. I'm good. Truth was, he wasn't good. Jack needed help. Then the darndest thing happened. Emily called Pacific Source. My health plan. Jack learned that Pacific Source provides members with support beyond healthcare. In Jack's case, we got him in touch with the local food bank.
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
You guys do that?
Bert
Yes, we do, Jack. Pacific Source Health Plan.

Spurt's Big Adventure 2026. Just a couple of hours. We take our own private endeavor aircraft down to Disney World. That's where it starts. The VIP right there, man.
Kristen
Well, yeah, I mean, that's. This whole trip is nothing but magical moments in vip. So we are here at the Hilton Atlanta Airport Hotel in our. In our. In our ballroom. Everything's ours. In the Birds Big Adventure ballroom. And we are gearing up for our big trip down to Disney. We do this every single year. Except for one year, which has thrown me and I hate it so much.
Bert
It's not congruent.
Kristen
It's not congruent. I need the numbers to align. So this is the 2034th year of Burt's Big Adventure. Did you ever think when you And Stacy started this 24 years ago that here we would be sitting in this ballroom.
Bert
When I got hired on Q997, I thought we would last one year. So I mean, I thought the radio show would last one year. So no, I did not think that Birds Big Adventure would be around this long.
Kristen
So here you are 24 years later. There's been 23 trips because the pandemic had to screw it up for us one year. But yeah, it's just been. It's been an incredible legacy and I'm so glad you started this.
Phoebe
Yeah.
Bert
As I thank you. And you're a huge part of it. Huge part of it. It was really cool being in the hotel last night. And from like the check in desk to where we are right now, there's sort of a whole bunch of different banners up of Burt's Big Adventure, us with the kids, the COVID from the magazine over and over and over again. So as I was walking down from check in here, it was kind of like going through memory lane.
Kristen
Yeah.
Bert
And I think I told you this before. I know I did. Kristen, is that this year's a little bit different for me because this is the only thing I have to focus on now that I'm not doing the bird show anymore. You know, you always sort of have a whole bunch of like, I don't know, plates spinning in the air feels like. And you're juggling so much. But this year is a little bit different for me, so I really get to slow down and take it in. So while I was walking in that hall and I was taking a look at all of those magazine covers for Burke's Big Adventure, all the memories from all of the years kept flooding back and just this sense of pride that what we have all done and this was just, I mean, Stacy and I started this, but it took an entire community to put this trip together for this many years. From the very first start, I mean, we said we don't know what we're doing with Burt's Big Adventure. And Atlanta really embraced it and helped us from the start and is doing it even to this day.
Kristen
Yet none of this, absolutely none of this would be possible without you, our listeners and the donations over the years. You guys are the ones that make this trip possible. And I want to encourage you, if you've ever donated a penny to Burt's Big Adventure, please follow along. We have an incredible team of photographers and videographers. Our girl Cassie is going to crush it on social, social media like she always does. So at Bert Burt's Big Adv, short for adventure. You can do. You follow that on social media and then also check the website burts big adventure.org because these photographers are, like, in the park all day taking photos, and then that night they come back, edit select photos and put them up on the website so you guys can follow along with us. And we want you to see the smiles on the family's faces because it's because of you that you've created them.
Bert
So each and every year, we bring back a Burt's Big Adventure family from the previous year to sort of tell this year's families exactly what to expect. And we brought back Liam's family this year, Caitlin and Roy and Emma. I love this family so much. How were the couches last night? Did you guys end up crashing in the lobby last night? No, we ended up in the room. We were walking. Kristen and I and Amanda were walking up to our rooms, and these guys came in last night, and we're going to spend the night there, but they were on the couches in the lobby, and I thought, man, did we forget to book them a room. So go ahead, crash on the couches tonight, guys.
Kristen
They were waiting on that pizza delivery van. The.
Bert
How are you guys doing this morning?
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
Good.
Stacy
It's kind of weird to be here, but not be here. In a way. It's kind of. It's cool, though, to kind of like, pass the torch to the families this year.
Bert
You could have held some leverage here and said, look, if you really want us on the show, take us on the trip again.
Stacy
I mean, I have a new premise that, like, you just recycle the old families now.
Bert
Ah.
Stacy
And you could start with us.
Bert
Okay. And we know. And we don't bring any new families.
Phoebe
No, just.
Stacy
Just the old one.
Bert
Okay. We'll run that by the board, and we'll see if they go for that.
Kristen
Like, we're capped out on new families. Sorry. We just have to start taking all our former families.
Stacy
Just pick one.
Bert
Yeah. Right. So for those that don't remember you guys from last year, tell us about Liam and that really special experience we had with you guys at Buckhead over in Buckhead. Yeah.
Stacy
So we got to see Andy Grammer because that was our fight song. When Liam was diagnosed with epilepsy, he was having hundreds of seizures a day. And through that, I would sing Andy Grammar to him. Don't give up on me. That's how I timed his seizures. And on the trip, coming home, you guys decided to put the Kleenex next to me. Let me know that we would be seeing him, and we'd get to meet him. And that was, like, the coolest thing. I'm always like, disney was awesome. But, hey, that Andy Grammer.
Bert
Yeah. He comes in there with just you guys. It was just you guys and us. And he basically did a show for you guys backstage.
Kristen
We were at the Buckhead Theater and got to go through the artist entrance in the back. And then we walk in and out walks Andy. And then all of a sudden, it was just, like. Just Liam and Andy in the room, and he gets down on Liam's level, and they have a conversation. You tell him the meaning behind that song, and then he looks at, you know, one of his roadies, and he's like, go grab my guitar.
Bert
Yeah.
Kristen
And then they grab the guitar. And he did, like, just. He serenaded Liam and, like, the entire family with the song that has so much meaning for you. And it was just. There was not a dry eye in the house.
Stacy
I was just proud that I wasn't, like, sobbing during it. I was like, tears not stopping. Hold it together. He's too close to see this happen. So we'll keep it contained.
Kristen
We can't ugly cry in front of Andy. Grammar.
Bert
He would have written a song about it. No, it was really, really great. All right, so we brought you guys here for a purpose, and that is sort of tell these guys exactly what they should expect from a family's perspective.
Stacy
So I wrote everything down, because unlike Roy, who, when he freezes, he says nothing.
Bert
I see that. I mean, he's so talkative. Like, I can't get this guy to shut up. And now he's behind a mic, and he's like, nope, nothing. Nothing for me today.
Stacy
When I get nervous, I don't stop. So I wanted to say to the families this year, you know, Disney gave me a chance to be a mom. Just a mom. And that's something that I've never really gotten to be. And the way that BBA pours into our families is amazing. So for our new families, when the trip is over, it's really hard to. To come down from that high. But we have the reunions to look forward to. It gives us a chance to catch up with everybody, meet other families. And there are some unexpected consequences of being a Burt's family. You get a sense of community through Burt's. We've now gotten to hang out with families from our year and other years, actually. Birthday parties together, going to the park, and they're always there to cheer us on. Like Haley Was there the first time Liam rode his bike by himself. And getting to share that with her was awesome because she gets it. Like, if I would have been doing that with anybody else, they wouldn't have understood how big of a deal it was. Confidence. Not just from him. I see him. Every time we see you guys, we see more of him, and it's amazing. But it's like a family thing, too. Because of this trip, I have felt confident in, like, going out and doing things that we wouldn't have done previously. Emma made friends with Bailey's family, and every day she is on messenger with Bailey and Bella. And seeing Liam on the blue carpet with Kristen, these are things that we would have never done if not for you guys and for being part of this family. And before we got to experience it, like, I had no idea. I'm like, it's a trip. There's a couple of reunions.
Phoebe
Cool.
Stacy
But the way that you guys continue to pour into us and like, I always say, like, if I have, like, a hard appointment for him coming up, I'm putting on a birch shirt. Like, that's my cape now. Like, that's not just. That's. I know that it feels like I have people behind me when I'm wearing that. So, you know, it's unintentional consequences of being a Burt's family. And, you know, I wasn't prepared to cry this early.
Bert
I saw you brought the tissues early today, man.
Stacy
You did it to me last year. I did.
Kristen
I did. I'm sorry. No, there is something. So, like, you know, all of our families are special. There's no doubt about it. And you guys are no exception. I mean, the Liam lights up a room when he walks into it, and you guys are like, a force to be reckoned with. And I say that in the most, like, inspirational, inspiring, appreciative way. And our group is better for having you a part of it, so thank you.
Stacy
Well, I would try to spin that on me.
Bert
See, this is how women fight. Right here is who can draw more tears from the other guys, use their fists. Women just try to make each other cry.
Kristen
Are you kidding? Like, this kid is responsible for so many core memories. Sneaking a kiss on me backstage at Avalon noon tonight. I'm like, give me a kiss on the cheek. And he's like, no. And then I turn my face and he kisses me on the lips.
Bert
Yeah. Hard to get. They learn early. You know, you raise a really great point, too, Caitlyn. That I want to say again, and I say it quite a bit is that when this trip started for Stacy and I, we had a role model kid, Craddock in Dallas. And when I was on his trip for two years, I'm like, if I ever find a radio station that's stupid enough to hire me as a host, this is what I'm going to bring to my community. And Q997 came along and we started Burt's Big Adventure. And the trip was just a couple of days. We took kids that weren't feeling great, took them down to Disney World, and then at the very end of it, the trip was over and the connection was over. So it was truly a trip of escape. Right. And then it was the families that were demanding, like, so that's it. I mean, that was great, but when do we get to see these guys again? And Stacy and I had not anticipated that. And through the years, that's what we have built. So you talking about it is spot on. It's now a community. It's not. The trip down to Disney World is always going to be at the center of what we do. And it really brings us all together and it allows you guys to just focus on each other. But the sense of community and the family, when you've got one family that's showing up for another family outside of events, we never saw that happening. And that might be the most important part of Burt's Big Adventure.
Kristen
I could not agree with you more. And seeing the bonds, yes, it's like this was. This was needed. This was like this was an absolute necessity for a lot of these families to have these connections. Because we have been told. And I think you guys, you listen to, listened. You listened to the feedback in the families, and there was this. This desire to have this connection. And because people feel so alone, like, nobody gets what I'm going through. Nobody understands the daily struggles. And you really, honestly can't until you walk that walk. Like, you can show empathy, you can show sympathy, but it's a whole different story when you have somebody else that has a child that has to deal with seizures. And there is just this moment of like, oh, girl, you get it. And to be able to have that person that you can, like, truly, truly lean on it, it's invaluable.
Bert
So let me just underscore that for the families this year, when we say, welcome to our family, it really is a family. Some of us are going to annoy you.
Kristen
Yeah.
Bert
Some of us are going to text you too much, but that you guys are going to be there for each other. That's what this trip is really all about. Thanks for coming on with us.
Stacy
Thank you for having me.
Bert
Appreciate you.
Kristen
Wait, wait, Emma. Liam's sister has a joke for Mr. Bird.
Bert
Oh, bring it, girl.
Kristen
So get right up in that microphone, sister. I asked her last night if she had any good jokes. She already had one. Her mom, Caitlyn said she got one in the chamber ready to go for you.
Bert
Okay, keep it clean.
Kristen
All right, go for it, Emma. You got this, girl. What's your name?
Bert
Bert. What's this? My nose. What am I holding? Nothing.
Kristen
Where knows.
Bert

Bert
It's Burt's Big Adventure 2026. Well, we've been doing this trip how many years now?
Kristen
This is our 23rd trip in our 24th year.
Bert
I know you don't like the math on that.
Kristen
I don't. It drives me crazy that we've been going one year longer than we have been taking trips.
Bert
If you're just joining us this morning. Yeah. This is our annual trip down to Disney World. We take with some really special kids and special families, and we need your help. We need your help this morning with our little give. We're just asking you guys for five bucks and I'll tell you why. Kristen did a little deep dive while you were schmoozing with everybody a second ago.
Kristen
My bad. That I had to get as many hugs as possible during commercial breaks.
Bert
I'm about business, okay? I'm standing on business right now. Since when since we are begging for money.
Kristen
Okay, got it.
Bert
Okay.
Kristen
Yeah.
Bert
So we were saying earlier, you know, like, the concessions at Disney, God bless. They're expensive.
Kristen
They are right now.
Bert
If you haven't been to Disney in a while, here's our deep dive. This is why we're asking you guys for, like, five bucks this morning that Zaxby's is going to match when you text the word Bert to 50155.
Kristen
Nailed it.
Bert
So popcorn. Popcorn. $14.30 for a souvenir bucket.
Kristen
I was going to say, but you get that souvenir bucket, which you have
Bert
to carry around with you all day long, and you realize that was stupid.
Kristen
Yeah.
Bert
Okay.
Kristen
It's kind of hard to hold when you're on a space mountain.
Stacy
Yeah.
Bert
All right. Mickey pretzel is gonna run you a pretzel. It's gonna run you about nine bucks. Yeah.
Kristen
They're big, though. In the shape of Mickey.
Bert
It's bread.
Kristen
True.
Bert
It's bread and salt. It's what they were eating in the Depression.
Kristen
Heaven forbid you get a side of cheese to dip it in.
Bert
Forget it.
Kristen
Forget about it.
Bert
Why are we asking you guys for five bucks this morning? Little gift so we can buy a pretzel. Yeah. Mickey's ice Cream Bar, $7.
Kristen
We always do a pit stop at those. For sure.
Bert
Turkey leg at Disney, 15 bucks.
Kristen
Those make for the best photo ops.
Bert
Chicken tenders or nuggets, $14. Bottled water, $6. Yeah, $6.
Kristen
That's why we. We try to help you guys out, because we give everybody water bottles and we're like, let's just try to get that free water in the bathroom.
Bert
Seriously. So that's why we're asking you guys for just whatever it is. $5 would be fantastic because Zaxby's has got our back.
Kristen
Yep. So text Bert B E R T to 50155, or you can donate easily at Burt's bigadventure.org All right, let's continue
Bert
to introduce you guys to our Burt's Big adventure families of 2026. We're going to get Kendall and her family on right now. Man, did they have a story to tell. I woke up this morning, and I'm like, I can't wait to hear this story. It's wild because Phoebe's the mom. You got dad here carved the little brother Cairo, and Kendall is our Burt's Big Adventure kid. But do I have this right? Because I'm gonna need some more details on this. Do I have this right? You find out. You find out that you're pregnant on a Tuesday, you have a baby on Friday, and then you go back to college on. Both of you guys go back to college on Monday.
Phoebe
Yes.
Bert
All right, fill it all in. We got.
Stacy
We.
Bert
We're gonna be here a while.
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
Yeah.
Carv
So me and Phoebe met in college. I'm not college in high school. And we were beginning to date for around, like, a year at that point. So. Yeah. So during that Tuesday, I think we were visiting a little bit.
Phoebe
So, yeah, I was having some feelings whatnot. So we went to the doctor to confirm and.
Kristen
Oh, you didn't mean, like, catching feelings because you already caught feelings.
Stacy
Yeah.
Kristen
But, yeah, you were just feeling something.
Bert
I'm gonna keep it pg. But she caught more than feeling.
Phoebe
So we went to the doctor, they confirmed. They scheduled my ultrasound for the next week just to see how far along I was. You know, we were thinking maybe just like a couple of weeks. And I started having really, really bad. I guess now I know it's contractions. So we went to. Or at least I. It was. Yeah, it was really bad. I called 91 1. They rushed me to the hospital.
Bert
This is that Tuesday you're talking about?
Phoebe
No, at that point, that was Friday.
Bert
Friday. Okay.
Phoebe
And, yeah. So they thought maybe I was having a miscarriage. The doctor comes in and checks, and they're like, no, there's a head. And we're like, what? And it was just.
Kristen
She was ready to come out, man. She's like, I'm ready to be here.
Phoebe
Yeah. We didn't know how far. No one knew how far along she was. So she came out and they told me she was about 24 weeks. They said we were really lucky because if she was born a week before, they wouldn't have tried to. She was so early. Wow.
Kristen
And how much did she weigh when she was born?
Phoebe
1 pound, 3 ounces.
Kristen
She could literally, like, fit in the palm of you.
Phoebe
Literally in her hand.
Bert
Look, man. And what they can do at hospitals now in nicu with a 1 pound baby, I mean, 20 years ago, we're talking about a very different story. And we're always talking about NICU and those nurses and doctors and nicu, how they save lives every single day. Now you come on here with a story of, yeah, my baby was a 1 pound, 3 ounces. And it's like, oh, no.
Kristen
So you. You have Kendall that Friday, and now she's obviously a NICU baby.
Phoebe
Yes.
Kristen
And then you both.
Stacy
You.
Kristen
You guys both go back to class on Friday.
Stacy
Yeah.
Phoebe
Like, I mean, school.
Kristen
Oh, my gosh.
Phoebe
So, yeah, I Had my bands on and everything and went to class and just. Yeah, I would do. I would go visit her in the NICU in the morning, do my classes, go see her after classes, and then go home after that and just do that every day.
Bert
And there was no indication leading up to that Tuesday that you were pregnant?
Phoebe
I mean, I had. Like, I was in a different country at that point, but, like, when I came back, I'm like, yeah, I feel like, off. Let me just go to the doctor.
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
Yeah.
Bert
And Carter's like, well, I mean, it's not like we got to worry about you being pregnant.
Phoebe
I mean, the crazy thing, too, our whole family, everyone found out at the
Kristen
hospital after I had her, they're like, surprise. We're parents.
Phoebe
They weren't the happiest. We were pretty young. I was 17.
Carv
Yeah. About to turn 18.
Phoebe
Yeah.
Carv
Just turned 19. Yeah.
Bert
Okay.
Kristen
So, I mean, your world really got turned upside down, but, like, in. In a beautiful way, but obviously very shocking that, like, this. This is your life now. And then when did you start finding out more about Kendall and what she was like, what she had?
Carv
I guess they did a good job of, like, I guess explaining to us our diagnosis and I guess getting us ready for what we are, our future ahead, basically. And did a really good job at Gwinnett Medical to get us prepared, because we're basically teenagers at that point.
Stacy
Yeah.
Carv
Child of tubes and, you know, oxygen and stuff like that. So just getting us prepared mentally and explain to us and I guess our parents and whatnot, just what to do and, you know. But at that point, she was still in the NICU for about, like, five months or so. So we kind of got a. A little bit of a runaway to, like, you know, understand and stuff like that. But at the same time, it's. You're still a teen.
Bert
Yeah, you're a teen.
Kristen
You're.
Bert
You're a kid.
Kristen
I know.
Bert
So much to process.
Kristen
That's a ton to process. So when was she diagnosed with cerebral palsy?
Phoebe
So it wasn't until she was like. I don't think they diagnosed until she was, like, one or two. We kind of knew, though, because she had a grade three brain bleed when she was in the nicu. So they let us know that she was going to have issues. They actually told us, like, she most likely wasn't going to be able to walk, talk, breathe on her own. So, I mean. I mean, look at her.
Stacy
I know.
Kristen
I said, because I was so fortunate to be able to call Phoebe and Carv and tell them the news. That they were going on Bert's big adventure, and they were telling me a little bit about Kendall's story, and I'm like, this girl is the definition of perseverance, and she is the definition of. I'm going to show you.
Bert
Yeah. It's also, you know, I use this cliche and I forget which Birch Big adventure. Mom said it like, a decade ago. But doctors don't know what God knows. Right. And she is a living example. What a miracle.
Phoebe
Yes.
Bert
So at what point did you realize, like, okay, the doctors got this one wrong here?
Phoebe
I feel like we always, like, they would get really annoyed with us. I'd be like, okay, so when is she getting discharged? Or like this. They're like, okay, slow down. Like, let's take it a day at a time. But, I mean, I feel like we always had, like, hope that she was going to be okay.
Kristen
I have to know what that was like as first time parents and, you know, how long was she in the NICU again?
Phoebe
Yeah, about five months.
Kristen
Five months. So, you know, five months. And now you get to take, like, your baby home. So you guys take her home. What was that first night like, having her like. Like finally having, like, your family unit together at home.
Phoebe
Surreal.
Carv
Yeah. It was scary, too, because we were just at the nicu. Then one day, like, hey, you can
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
just take her home.
Kristen
I'm like, what?
Bert
Yeah, that's how it works, man. That's how it works. Yeah.
Carv
So that was pretty scary. Yes. You know, having to just go home and you just basically take all your training. I guess you can say, yeah, take it home and whatnot. So that was like on New Year's Eve. So we were able to take her home and she was able to just come home with us, watch the ball drop and stuff. So that was pretty cool.
Bert
We got. We had two freemies also. And I could tell you that feeling of just like, you're so nervous while they're in the hospital, and then when they're fine, there's such relief, but then there's such fear when they're like, okay, all right, your turn. Like, what do you mean? What do you. What do we do now?
Kristen
I don't have to take a class. I don't have to, like, what?
Bert
And you're so young at the time, too.
Phoebe
Yeah. We had a lot of support, though. She had, like, her therapist, physical therapy, occupational therapy, all her doctors. Support from friends are actually our best friends. My best friend from middle school and his best friend from middle school as well. They got married, so we're they came over and they stayed the night with us. The first night, she came home and just helped us whatnot.
Kristen
It does take a village, for sure. Hey, Kendall, what are you most excited about at Disney?
Bert
Everything.
Kristen
Everything?
Bert
Well, guess what? You know what's on our agenda? Everything you're gonna see. Everything you want. You told me yesterday. Princesses, right? Yes. Yes.
Kristen
Is there a particular princess that we need to find when we get to Disney, or you just want to meet all of them?
Bert
All of them. All of them. We can do that. Yeah, no problem.
Kristen
We know a couple people.
Bert
Yeah, we can do that. We understand that you love Barbie also. You want to tell us a little bit about that?
Kristen
Well, I heard that you want to get a 3D printer so you can print. Print out wheelchairs for your Barbies. Yes, that would be so cool because, I mean, that's kind of important because you have a chair to help you get around, right?
Stacy
Yeah.
Kristen
So it would only make sense that you have a Barbie with a wheelchair to help her get around, right? Yes.
Bert
Makes perfect sense.
Kristen
Makes perfect sense.
Bert
Okay, now, knowing that you loved Barbie, how many Barbies do you have? A lot. What's the number on that?
Kristen
I don't know. If we had to guess.
Phoebe
A million, maybe 10.
Bert
10 million. 10 Barbies. Okay, knowing that, we want to introduce you to Nancy Melinda. This. We got a video for you guys. She is the vice versa president of global corporate events and philanthropy at Mattel, which happens to make Barbie.
Kristen
Today from the world's largest toy fair in New York City, where we are showing all of our fans the best of Barbie, which I know is also your favorite brand as well. And that then leads me to an even bigger surprise as to why I'm calling, because we, Mattel and Mattel Philanthropy, would love to invite you and your family to join us as a VIP guest coming up next month at the Barbie Dream Fest in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. So we are thrilled to see you there. We can't wait. We're going to give you the best Barbie experience you can ever imagine. Because at Mattel, we play it forward to the best brand ambassadors, the best bands just like you, Kendall. And we can't wait to see you.
Bert
So you guys are going to Barbie Dream Festival in Fort Lauderdale as vip. Barbie over there. Barbie over there. Barbie over there. It's all Barbie all weekend long. And there's more.
Kristen
So just so you know, again, that was Nancy Melinda. She's the vice president, Global corporate events and philanthropy at Mattel, the makers of Barbie. We have some giant bins you have. You are now adding to your Barbie collection, Kendall. We have Barbies on Barbies on Barbies.
Bert
Yeah.
Kristen
Yeah. So, yeah, you guys are going to be VIP guests at Barbie Dream Festival in Fort Lauderdale. So this is a three day, high energy, multi sensory celebration of limitless possibilities. From the moment you arrived, Kendall, you're going to be immersed in a world where creativity, music, and fashion collide. There's interactive play zones, larger than life photo ops, Barbie's iconic dream house, Barbie fashion shows, totally hair, glam bars, and yeah, Mattel just really wanted you to know that they realize play isn't a luxury, it's a necessity. And they're also, they know how important representation is. So when they heard about you wanting to 3D print wheelchairs for your Barbies, they were like, absolutely. We need this girl to be at the Barbie Dream Fest and she needs to be our vip, so. And just so you know, they are taking care of. Of everything. So we're going to take care of your flights, your hotel accommodations, and we're also going to give you a little extra spending money so you can find yourself some. Some more Barbies at the Barbie Fest.
Rocket Money Advertiser 2
Yay.
Bert

Date: February 19, 2026
Episode Theme: The kickoff of Burt’s Big Adventure 2026—a heartfelt, energetic start to the annual trip that takes children with chronic and terminal illnesses (and their families) to Disney World, creating lifelong memories, forging connections, and building a unique community of support.
This episode, live from the Hilton Atlanta Airport, launches the much-anticipated annual Burt’s Big Adventure trip. The Bert Show crew—Bert, Kristen, and team—share behind-the-scenes stories, introduce families, highlight emotional moments, and set the tone for a weekend dedicated to joy, empathy, and togetherness. The show includes moving testimonials from returning families, memorable surprises for the kids, and reflections on the long-standing impact of the Burt’s Big Adventure community.
(01:07–03:02)
Early morning struggles are real for the returning cast and the families, with both Bert and Kristen sharing that after years of early show starts, getting up so early is now a challenge.
They reflect on their own routine struggles, relating them to the kids who are up early for the trip. Bert highlights the anticipation in the air: “They also know they’re going to Disney today.” – Bert (02:46)
(03:03–04:55)
Burt’s Big Adventure is introduced for new listeners: each year, the show takes selected children with chronic and terminal illnesses (plus their families) on an all-expense-paid VIP Disney World trip. The emphasis is on love, connection, and once-in-a-lifetime experiences for kids who’ve had a tough road.
Kristen narrates the pre-trip gatherings: first orientation weeks before, and then the real bonding begins the night before departure, where nerves and excitement mix as a roomful of families come together.
“You come into a room... we don’t come in soft. We come in hard every single time.” – Bert (04:18)
(04:55–07:18)
The prior night’s “Welcome Party” is described in detail: red carpet, Star Wars characters, princesses, mascots, cheering volunteers, and a focus on special accommodations for kids with sensory challenges.
Memorable moment: one child, Kendall’s little brother, was “obsessed” with the Gas South mascot, Mr. Meter—highlighting how core memories begin from the first minute.
(08:22–11:23)
New and veteran team members share their perspectives. Stacy (Gas South) expresses excitement at bonding with families and being “in on the happy chaos.” Lala (manager of corporate partnerships) is moved by the intentionality and close-knit feel that comes from keeping the trip’s scale small—so each family feels truly seen.
Kristen and Burt describe how this intimacy fosters real connection, and the goal isn’t just a series of logistics—it’s to provide genuine, individualized care and ongoing relationships.
(14:03–15:48)
Burt reflects on the trip’s origins—24 years, 23 trips due to the pandemic interruption (“It took an entire community to put this trip together for this many years.” – Burt, 15:32). Kristen shares the emotional impact of walking through the hotel and seeing two decades’ worth of memories.
Social media and the website allow donors and the public to follow the families’ adventures in real time.
(16:43–22:47)
Each year, a family from the previous year shares insights for newcomers. Caitlin, Roy, and Emma recount their trip, including a private Andy Grammer concert that provided a “fight song” for their struggles with epilepsy.
Kristen and Burt reinforce how the BBA family continues after the trip, fulfilling a need for connection and true understanding among families on similar journeys.
Memorable Moment: Emma delivers a kid classic joke:
(27:08–29:11)
The hosts highlight the sky-high price of Disney treats (popcorn bucket $14.30, Mickey pretzel $9, bottled water $6) to explain their fundraising plea—a $5 “little give” campaign matched by Zaxby’s.
Listeners are encouraged to text BERT to 50155 or donate online.
(29:25–41:06)
Kendall’s remarkable birth story: parents Phoebe and Carv found out she was coming on a Tuesday, she was born on Friday at 24 weeks (weighing just 1 lb 3 oz), and both parents returned to college by Monday.
The family describes initial medical predictions (“most likely wasn’t going to be able to walk, talk, breathe on her own”) but Kendall now defies all odds.
“She is the definition of perseverance and ‘I’m gonna show you.’” – Burt (34:24)
“Doctors don’t know what God knows. She is a living example.” – Kristen (34:41)
The parents describe navigating five months in the NICU, and the fear/joy of finally bringing Kendall home as teens.
Special Surprise:
Kendall, a huge Barbie fan, receives a personal video invitation from Nancy Melinda (VP at Mattel) to be a VIP guest at Barbie Dream Fest in Fort Lauderdale, with flights, hotel, and spending money covered—plus bins of new Barbies to add to her collection.
“Mattel just really wanted you to know that they realize play isn’t a luxury, it’s a necessity. And they know how important representation is. So when they heard about you wanting to 3D print wheelchairs for your Barbies, they were like, absolutely. We need this girl at the Barbie Dream Fest.” – Kristen (40:46)
On Empathy and Early Mornings:
