Agent Dryden
Case number 002 of the Bible files. The Mediterranean Sea. Jonah, a prophet. One storm. One extremely large fish. Not a whale. Incident report states the Prophet survived inside the fish for three days. Assignment. Deliver a warning to Nineveh. Decision. Run or obey. Swallowed.
Agent Fuzzy
Three days? I can't even survive three minutes without snacks. Survival inside a digestive system for 72 hours is biologically impossible. You say impossible. I say seafood miracle.
Agent Dryden
Prepare to dive. This case smells fishy. Literally.
Agent Fuzzy
I'm sorry, are we just supposed to breeze past the fact that they. The whole swallowed alive part. Let me stop you right there. Humans don't survive inside fish. Oxygen deprivation. Alone.
Agent Dryden
And yet Jonah survived three days.
Agent Fuzzy
Highly inconceivable. But, Agent Dryden, I'm willing to see if this is true and accurate. And I'm willing to see if there's snacks.
Agent Dryden
Remember, the truth isn't just out there.
Agent Fuzzy
It's possibly in a sea creature.
Agent Dryden
No. The truth is in the word of God. Hello, agents. I am here to debrief you on the Prophet of Jonah. Jonah lived in a time when prophets delivered very difficult messages. His message, it wasn't for Israel. It was for the city of Nineveh,
Agent Fuzzy
which was basically the worst of the worst.
Agent Dryden
The people of Nineveh were violent, cruel, feared. And Jonah did not want them forgiven by God.
Agent Fuzzy
So he did what any one of us would do. He ran away. Dramatically.
Agent Dryden
He ran away as far as he could.
Agent Fuzzy
Hmm. Why would God want to forgive such terribly bad people?
Agent Dryden
Because God sees who people are. And who they will become.
Agent Fuzzy
Hmm. That's a little uncomfortable.
Agent Dryden
Jonah boarded a ship heading in the opposite direction to try to run away from. From God.
Agent Fuzzy
Well, that never works. You can't go one way and go the opposite way to try to get the one way.
Agent Dryden
Of course it never works. It never works to run away from God.
Agent Fuzzy
So then, where are we gonna go?
Agent Dryden
We are going in. To the eye of the storm.
Agent Fuzzy
This ship is one wave away from becoming firewood. According to my scanners, the storm pressure is escalating unnaturally fast. This isn't random. And yet Jonah slept through the storm. I respect that level of denial. That's guilt sleep, to be exact. Whoa, whoa, whoa. Why did the storm just stop?
Agent Dryden
Well, you see, Jonah admitted responsibility and he asked to be thrown overboard.
Agent Fuzzy
Finally, he takes responsibility. But why has to be thrown overboard? That's not a solution. Well, maybe he thought human sacrifice would fix everything. Hmm.
Agent Dryden
Agent Quark, you may be onto something.
Agent Fuzzy
Did the ocean just take a really deep breath? Like an inhale? Like it went. Hmm. According to my calculations, it would seem that it's very dark where we have ended up.
Agent Dryden
Yes, a definitely sonar spike detected.
Agent Fuzzy
Something massive must be approaching. You know, if I remember this Bible story correctly, as soon as Jonah went into the water off of the boat, he was eaten by the giant whale.
Agent Dryden
Technically, it was a giant fish.
Agent Fuzzy
Oh, yeah, okay, you know, tomato, tomahto.
Agent Dryden
Well, if the Bible says it was was a giant fish and not a whale, then we must respect what the Bible says.
Agent Fuzzy
Yes, you're right, Agent Dryden. But back to what I was saying. If Jonah was swallowed by the whale and we're following him and it's dark, I'm thinking I confirm your suspicions, Fuzz. We are somewhere dark. No, what I'm saying is we're in the worst case submarine ever were in the belly of the great fish. This is where you entered the Dun dun dun music right here. But there. There should be no air. There's no light. There's. There's not even an echo. What should we do? Not that I'm believing that we're in the belly of a great fish. That would be highly illogical. But just in case, what should we do?
Agent Dryden
Well, when Jonah was in the belly of the fish, Jonah prayed. Hello, agents. Hopefully you are enjoying your sea cruise.
Agent Fuzzy
I am. This is great. I even brought my fishing pole.
Agent Dryden
Well, when Jonah was in the darkest place imaginable, he cried out to God.
Agent Fuzzy
Even after disobeying?
Agent Dryden
Especially then.
Agent Fuzzy
And wait a second. God didn't even say, I told you so.
Agent Dryden
Grace does not gloat.
Agent Fuzzy
And that's actually very, very comforting. Well, maybe we could pray. What's the worst that could happen? I will pray.
Agent Dryden
Actually, Agent Fuzzy, I will pray. Dear Jesus, when we are in the darkest moments, we ask you to be the light that shines brightest. We pray that when we are lost, we will remember that you are always with us, so that we will always be found. Help us to forgive others, and thank you for forgiving us. Amen.
Agent Fuzzy
After Jonah prayed, what exactly happened? Oh, that's where it gets real stinky. This is the part parents aren't gonna like. And why is that exactly, Agent Fuzz? I thought parents would like a story of forgiveness. Yeah, but this is where the Bible says Jonah was throwed up onto the beach. Hmm. That's how we ended up here at the shore. Kinda smells like fish. It smells like repentance. So what did Jonah do after he was in the belly of this fish? Continue to run away, I would suspect.
Agent Dryden
Actually, Jonah obeys. He goes to Nineveh and delivers God's message to the people of Nineveh. And, agents, the people repent.
Agent Fuzzy
Even the bad people?
Agent Dryden
Even the bad people.
Agent Fuzzy
Interesting.
Agent Dryden
Interesting. You see, the prophet was restored, the city was changed, and mercy was victorious.
Agent Fuzzy
Moral of the story? Don't run from God. And don't underestimate your ability to ever become seafood. I always thought, hmm, that mistakes cancel people. But Jonah's mistake didn't cancel his calling. Or the fact that God still used him.
Agent Dryden
Agents, God specializes in second chances. That was the whole reason why he sent Jesus to Earth to die on the cross. Well, agents, I would say, truth confirmed, case closed. Remember, the truth is not out there. It's in the word of God.
Agent Fuzzy
And if you're running, just remember, God runs faster. He's, like, really fast. He can outrun a boat. He can outrun a giant fish.
Agent Dryden
He can.
Agent Fuzzy
He can outrun you being thrown up on the beach. He can run out anybody. Even prophets. I still don't understand how Jonah survived that many days. But I do understand why God's grace matters.
Agent Dryden
Agents, some stories, they aren't ancient. They are alive. And they teach us that God's word is still alive and working in our life today. Well, agents, we have another case coming up, and this one involves a giant wall and a few musical instruments.
Agent Fuzzy
Hmm. Sounds highly unlikely. Sounds like we're ready for God to do another miracle.
Agent Dryden
Remember, agents, the truth is not out there. It's in the word of God.
Agent Fuzzy
Sa.
