Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verb Genesis 20:17 says, Abraham prayed to God and God healed Abimelech. Abraham has a nephew named Lot, and he lives close to two cities full of wicked people. One day, Lot welcomed two visitors into his house. The visitors are angels, God's messengers, remember. But the people nearby want to do terrible things to them. The angels make those men go blind, but they tell Lot's family that God will spare them. Because of the unimaginable evil in the two cities, God destroys both of those cities. The angels warn Lot and his family not to look back when they're leaving their old, wicked home. But Lot's wife disobeys angels and disobeys God. And when she looks back at her old home, she dies too. When we read the Bible together, it's really important to remember that there are examples of righteous living and then there are examples of unrighteous living. Even the people God blesses richly still have sinful moments of unrighteous living. And those stories don't show us how to live, but how not to live. And ultimately, they remind us that we're all sinful. And they point us to the only one who is perfect. Abraham and Sarah have a familiar scene again. Sarah is kidnapped again, this time by a king named Abimelech. But God is in charge. He made a promise, and he can't be stopped. God appears to King Abimelech in a dream, and Sarah is returned to Abraham. And then, at last, Abraham and Sarah finally have a son. They name him Isaac. God loves forgiveness, and he wants his kids to forgive each other. God tells Abraham to pray for King Abimelech after Sarah. Sarah's kidnapping. Just like God told Job to pray for the friends who would say such unkind things to him, God instructed these men to pray for the guilty ones who had wronged them. Later in the New Testament, Jesus will pray for all of us, the guilty ones who wrong him. We are the guilty ones, and God loves us. He's where the love is. He's where the forgiveness is, and he's where the joy is. Sam.
