Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse. In Leviticus, chapter 3, verse 1, God says if you present an animal from the herd as a peace offering to the Lord, it may be a male or a female, but it must have no defects. God is holy and perfect, and he wants to be near to his people even though they're sinful. The book of Leviticus explains how this can be possible. Now, it's important to remember that the Bible teaches us about who God is, what he's doing, and how much he loves his kids. So ask God to help you remember this as you read parts of the Bible that may be confusing or even difficult. Almost everything in Leviticus is God speaking to Moses. He's outlining extra rules that the Levites need to follow. Now, why are there extra rules for them? Because like we learned in Exodus, their tribe or family is set apart to be priests. Priests go between the sinful people and the holy God. So they have to follow a very special set of rules. God sets up a system of offerings and sacrifices. Offerings are gifts given by the people to God, and sacrifices are animals used to atone for sin. Atone comes from a word that means to cover, and it is definitely a word to remember. Word to remember. Atone means to cover or to pay a penalty. Hebrews 9:22, which we'll read much later on this year, tells us that our sin, which separates us from God, demands death in order to be forgiven. So God gave the people a sacrificial system to use until it was time for the real solution. Jesus. God is merciful. Our sin separates us from him because he is perfect and we aren't. But instead of leaving us, God gave a solution for atonement to cover our sins. In the Old Testament, he set up a system of sacrifices that led to the people's forgiveness. But this wasn't the plan for everyone. He knew that Jesus, the ultimate sacrifice for all our sins, was coming. He made a way for us to come back to him, and he's where the joy is. Have you ever been on a sports team or maybe in a group project at school? One of the best parts about being on a team is how we can help each other along the way. And that's why we love hearing about groups who are doing the Bible recap together. We believe that people who start the Bible together are more likely to finish the Bible together. So round up some friends and try doing the Bible recap together. Let's go, team.
