Hey, Bible readers, I'm Ms. Emily, and this is the Bible recap for kids. Today's Bible verse. In Job, chapter 13, verse 15, Job says, God might kill me, but I have no other hope. After Eliphaz and Bildad take turns with their terrible advice, Job's third friend, Zophar, speaks up. Like the two before him, he also urges Job to turn away from his sin. All three friends believe God is punishing Job because of some deeply hidden sin. And all three friends tell him this over and over again. These friends are the perfect example of what not to do when people in our lives experience tragedies that we don't understand. While the advice Job's friends give is terrible for his situation, some of what they say is still true. In chapter 11, verse 6, Zophar says, God is doubtless punishing you for far less than you deserve. And do you know what? He's right about? That because of our sin, we deserve death, but God doesn't give us what we deserve. And this is called mercy. God. God goes beyond mercy, even giving us so many good gifts, and we don't deserve those either. This is called grace. And those are two really important words to remember. Mercy and grace, words to remember. Mercy is when you don't get what you do deserve. Grace is when you get what you don't deserve. Job trusts so strongly in God that he declares that even if God kills him, he will still trust God. God is the only place where hope can be found. Job knows this and holds onto that hope so strongly even when everything else around him falls apart. While it's true that sometimes the consequences of sin cause terrible things to happen, God's mercy and grace mean that his kids don't get the eternal death we deserve. No matter what hard times you might be in, you can always run to God to find hope. He's where the joy is.
