Podcast Host 1
West Coast. We started off ridiculous.
Chanel West Coast
Literally, it's been ridiculous. Oh, my God.
Podcast Host 1
I can't even. We found Zach from the morning show the river, and he joined us, and we were like, you know what? We're just gonna make this an absolute dumpster fire. But not because of you, but because of me.
Chanel West Coast
So. You're amazing. That's. That's not a dumpster fire. When you're able to still, like, perform under all of this craziness, like, you're a pro.
Podcast Host 1
Armpit sweating. I feel hot. We had to run to Walmart, get an SD card, and you're coming in looking like a freaking dream.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you. I don't even know how I'm looking. Well, it's a lot of collagen pills because it's been a. It's been a week.
Podcast Host 2
Okay, not the collagen pills.
Chanel West Coast
They will.
Podcast Host 1
You see, they work.
Chanel West Coast
Oh, they work.
Podcast Host 2
If I like your skin and your
Chanel West Coast
hair for your skin. Your hair. But I'm not joking. Collagen is everything. You have to take collagen. You'll. You'll see the difference. If you take it every day and then you stop taking it for three days, you'll be like, oh, shit, I look like I'm aging all of a sudden.
Podcast Host 2
Interesting.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, well, I'm in perimenopause, so that's fun.
Chanel West Coast
No, you're not.
Podcast Host 1
Yes, I am. I'm 43 next month, and I am. Well, I just got a face of Botox. I literally lasered off my face, like, the other day.
Chanel West Coast
I need to start getting lasered too. I've been hearing, like, that is what you need to do.
Podcast Host 1
Well, you needed sedate yourself because it was worse than labor. It was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life. Yes, it was. It was so traumatizing. Painful. It was amazing. I think it was amazing. I don't know if I'd do it again, but, yeah, I'm a perimenopausal. I'm having, like, rage symptoms right now, which I've never had before.
Chanel West Coast
Really?
Podcast Host 1
Yes. Like, I literally, like, lose all of my.
Podcast Host 2
Just who do you want to fight?
Podcast Host 1
Well, sadly, it's normally Michael, my husband.
Podcast Host 2
Oh. Cause I was like, girl, we can go. I'm ready. Me and Chanel, we're backing you up.
Chanel West Coast
I'm like, love you, Adam.
Podcast Host 1
Put me in. No, I'm just kidding. So how's it going being you? You started off at this career ridiculousness
Chanel West Coast
when you're what, 20? So I actually started on Rob's first show, Fantasy Factory, when I was 20, and I did that for five seasons. I think we did. And then we started ridiculousness when I was, like, 23, and I did that for 30 seasons.
Podcast Host 2
I think that's actually insane.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah, no, it might have been. Hashtag show.
Podcast Host 1
Ever gone that long.
Chanel West Coast
So our show has more episodes than the Simpsons. People don't even know that. It's literally, like, so many episodes. We. I think we have more episodes than, like, any show.
Podcast Host 2
How many. How many would you film in a day?
Chanel West Coast
So when I was doing the show, we were doing six in a day. Six in a day.
Podcast Host 2
That's crazy.
Podcast Host 1
In a day.
Chanel West Coast
I'm trying to remember. I think it was six. Three. Yeah, you guys, it was, because it changed a little bit, but I think at the max, we were doing six in a day.
Podcast Host 1
Do you, like, just. Do you, like, black out when you're doing it? Do you, like, have a plan, or do you just show up as yourself because you're just watching videos and then commenting and laughing and being amazing?
Chanel West Coast
Well, half my comments were edited out, so let's. Let's start there.
Podcast Host 1
But do we have good feelings about the show? Like, how. I mean, obviously it launched your whole career, but do you feel good about it? Or were you, like.
Chanel West Coast
You know, I think, like. Like, as you. I mean, I'm a talker. I talk. And so many people be like, that girl doesn't do anything but sit there. And I said, what show are they seeing that? You know what I mean? Like, I would say so much when I'm filming, and then after the editing, you just see me laugh. Another thing that's super annoying is they put my laugh after, like, bad clips to make the clip funny, and I'm like, I would never laugh at that. I have a good sense of humor, you know? So that annoyed me, too, because then it looks like I'm just, like, this annoying girl who, like, laughs at anything, which I don't.
Podcast Host 2
I understand that it feels annoying, but, like, what an honor. No, like that, like, your laugh is so recognizable that. That they use it for everything.
Chanel West Coast
I know, right? It's like. No, it's like the I. So I started a podcast, which I'm on hold doing now, because the music is, like, way more.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, Like, I love that you're going country, too.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you.
Podcast Host 1
Like, this is very natural for you.
Chanel West Coast
No, it's like. It's. What I've always wanted to do is music. That was my passion. I always Wanted to be, like, growing up, I wanted to be the next Britney Spears, the next Fergie, the next Gwen Stefani. And I fell into this world of tv. And I was just about to say, I started my podcast, the Laugh. I call it. I called it the Laugh.
Podcast Host 2
I love that so much.
Chanel West Coast
Because we were, like, trying to think of a podcast name, and I'm, like, laughing over, and they're like, dude, my boyfriend or fiance now? He was like, babe, let's just call
Podcast Host 2
it the Laugh Fiance now.
Chanel West Coast
Yes, I know.
Podcast Host 2
Look at me.
Chanel West Coast
I can't show this finger right now. You guys, I'm sorry. It's so embarrassing. I have a horrible, ugly band aid over a splinter with the ring.
Podcast Host 2
He did the thing, honey, he did it.
Podcast Host 1
Yes, he did. How did he propose?
Chanel West Coast
It was the funniest way. So I'm really hard to surprise. Like, literally, I. I always know if somebody's about to surprise me, so it had to be, like, extra. Like, I was not thinking about it. So I had a little. I had a deal with Fashion Nova, and so I had this cute Fashion Nova outfit on. We go to this really. I also was wondering, like, why are we going this really cute lunch on a random Monday, Right?
Podcast Host 2
I mean, why not, though, right?
Chanel West Coast
But. So we go to this really cute lunch at the Maybourne Hotel, and it was around Christmas time, and they have the most beautiful Christmas tree and, like, whole, like, Christmas set up there. And I'm obsessed with Christmas. He knows that. So he was like, oh, babe, like, we should go get your little Fashion Nova video over by the tree. And this is also super funny. So I Never am a one and done. It's like, take seven. Like, take 70. We need all the angles. And so he took a video, and I go, it's perfect. We don't need another. And he's like, no, I think we should try another one. Because, like, he had this little plan, and so he's probably, like, the one time that, like, I need to do another video. This girl's like, it's perfect. And so he's like, no, let's do another one. He's like, I think you should go walk towards the Christmas tree and do, like, a little spin. And I was like, okay, that sounds cute. I, like, walk to the Christmas tree, and then I, like, do my little spin. And right as I spun around, he, like, pulled out the ring like this. And I'm like, I was just in shock. It was like, I wasn't expecting it. Like, I'm just, like, taking my Fashion Nova video. You Know and so funny. I got a lot of. He got a lot of hate people. He didn't even get on his knee. And I'm like, babe, he didn't get on his knee because he knows I do not like low angles.
Podcast Host 1
Oh, he knows.
Chanel West Coast
And he was filming it himself, so he just was like. He. He thought about it. He's like, I knew if I got on my knee and tried to film it from there, you'd, like, hate that, like, upper angle. He's like, so I just stayed standing so I could get your pretty upper angle.
Podcast Host 1
True love. That's true love.
Chanel West Coast
That's what I said.
Podcast Host 2
Knows you.
Chanel West Coast
He knows my angles. Like, that's real love.
Podcast Host 1
That is real love. I mean, because you've lived your whole life, like, seeing your face on camera, though.
Chanel West Coast
That's how I know my bad side. It's like, dude, I was. It's crazy.
Podcast Host 1
You always look so good on camera. But you said you got tired of being the girl on the couch after a while. Yes, you did.
Chanel West Coast
I did. I just, like, you know, I was telling you before we started, music's my passion. I've always been a performer. Like, I joke all the time. The most I've ever sat in my life is on ridiculousness. I'm a stander. I don't even sit ever. I'm always, like, moving and shaking, you know? So, like, that would literally be where I sit the most is when I'm filming.
Podcast Host 2
I will say, before we even started the podcast, I asked you this question. I think it's, like, really interesting that you share of. Like, when did you know that you could sing? Like, when were you, like, girl, I got. I got this.
Chanel West Coast
So I. I, like, I was. I was singing since I was, like, three. My mom knew, too. Like, everybody in my life kind of knew. Like, she's gonna do music. And. But it was my choir teacher in middle school who really.
Podcast Host 2
What's their name?
Chanel West Coast
Oh, God, I'm forgetting her name, which is terrible.
Podcast Host 1
But we love you so much.
Podcast Host 2
Shout out to the choir.
Chanel West Coast
We love you, choir teacher. We love you, Ms. Palmer.
Podcast Host 1
I believe.
Chanel West Coast
Ms. Palmer.
Podcast Host 1
That feels good.
Chanel West Coast
I believe that was her name. Yes. And when I was doing. So, you know, you have to sing, and she, like, plays the keys, and I remember she's playing the keys, and she's like, wow, you have perfect pitch. And then she was, like, trying to figure out if I'm, like, alto or soprano. And she's like, well, you. You kind of can do it all. But she's like, we really need more altos so we're gonna put you. And I was like, what? But. So it's funny because I do sing very deep. I have a deep tone of voice, and I think that getting into alto as, like, in choir is what kind of geared me more to singing in a deeper tone, because I can sing high, too. But, yeah, it was my choir teacher who really made me realize, like, this is something I'm good at. And.
Podcast Host 1
But that's also good because it really developed your range. I'm sure instead of just, like, hanging out in the high. You have a very full range.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah, no, I do. I. I do. Like, I can kind of sing at all different levels. But I was telling you also, like, I was in a lot of talent shows, and so me and my girls at school, like, people would hate on us because we would win every talent show. Like, duh. Like, we would do. We did Beyonce, like, bills, bills, bills. We did a lot of Beyonce. We did a lot of Destiny's Child, but we always won. And so when you win a lot of talent shows as a kid, you're like, okay, clearly I have a knack for this. I need to, like, focus on this and do something with it. You know what I mean?
Podcast Host 2
I love that.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, I do.
Podcast Host 2
I think it's honestly so cool. And also, shout out to the teachers, because they don't. Number one, they don't get paid enough.
Chanel West Coast
They don't.
Podcast Host 1
Oh.
Podcast Host 2
To begin with. And number two, they culture talent. Like you.
Chanel West Coast
Yes. I love that you just said that. Because, honestly, like, my choir teacher was so amazing, and that's a great thing to like. To mention is, like, there is a couple of these teachers. I didn't have the greatest. I was in the Los Angeles Unified School District. Worst in the world. But there was a couple teachers like her that, like, put in that extra effort and, like, really show you love and kind of nurture you as. As a. As a student. And it's like, they do not get paid enough to have to even care. You know what I mean?
Podcast Host 2
It genuinely can change, like, a child's life.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, first, like, look at you.
Chanel West Coast
No, like, she was. And I had an English teacher, too, who was, like, really amazing, who really inspired me. He was like, you're a great writer. And I'm like, thank you. I love writing music. And. And he was one of the people, too, who first made me realize, like, I'm good at, like, writing, because all my, like, every essay or, you know, report you had to do, I'd always get an A. And he's like, you're a really good writer. Like you should do something with this.
Podcast Host 2
I have a random question for you and please don't get mad at me.
Chanel West Coast
No.
Podcast Host 2
Do you ever get annoyed that people always thought of you as like the laugh track and not knowing how actually intelligent and talented that you are?
Chanel West Coast
Yes. It's very frustrating.
Podcast Host 2
I could. It would be so annoying.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah, it, it really is. Well, especially cuz like I am such a hard worker and I do so much myself. I'm a Virgo. So like, as I was going through like life with different agents or managers or whatever, I started to realize I'm like, things get done better when I just do it myself. You know what I mean? And so I've done a lot myself. Every music video I've ever put out, I came up with that concept. I've co directed every music video. I style myself. I do my own makeup on ridiculousness. On tv. I did my own makeup.
Podcast Host 1
I actually was gonna ask you about
Chanel West Coast
that because where's my makeup deal?
Podcast Host 1
You're full glam every single day. That's you all you with two tone eyes and everything.
Chanel West Coast
Yes. I do my own makeup. Like I a very hands on person and I feel like I never get my credit. Like I'm like, dude, all these people are like styled to the nines. Like, I'm sorry, but Sabrina Carpenter's album, I felt like somebody like saw my America Sweetheart album and was like, I know what we're doing with this person. Like I feel like a lot of things I do get stolen for bigger artists and stuff like that.
Podcast Host 1
Like they don't know.
Chanel West Coast
Yes. And, and, and this is why. Cuz it's like I'm super famous from ridiculousness, but the music isn't at that same level. So a lot of labels, artists kind of steal what I'm doing and like use it for their artists and I never get my credit and I'm just like, yeah, I'm trying to finally get it.
Podcast Host 1
This is happening.
Podcast Host 2
Guess what, babe? It's time for your flowers.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you.
Podcast Host 2
It's time.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you. I know. I really like, I've been working hard and I think this new music though is what people are finally, they're finally starting to get it. You know, they hear the new music and they're like, oh, I didn't know she could sing. Like, this is actually good. It's funny because we get that reaction a lot. Like, this is actually good. I'm like, were you expecting me to just make horrible music?
Podcast Host 2
Well, no, I do think it's like, definitely an uphill batt for you because of being like a reality TV star. And like, people knowing you from TV to. For them to be able to acknowledge that you actually have talent and for them to like, be able to digest, like, oh, she's actually good. Like, so that's, that's an uphill battle for you, which is unfortunate.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
But thank God you got famous for it.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
Right.
Chanel West Coast
Like, it's like, I can't complain. Like, I had an amazing run on ridiculousness. It was, it was, was such a fun job. Like, there was times where I would be depressed from things in my life, like a breakup or whatever. I go to work and I'm just like laughing my ass off. Completely forget what I'm going through in my personal life where sometimes that's not how jobs are.
Podcast Host 1
Right.
Chanel West Coast
Even though it wasn't my passion, it was a job that still brought me a lot of joy when I, when I was there, you know, so it was fun. But my passion is music and I just really want the world to know me for that, to remember me for, like, not just being famous for nothing, for just like laughing, you know, I want people to know, like, there's a lot of hard work behind the stuff that I do and I'd rather be remembered for that, you know? I think the great news is though is like getting a foundation, like ridiculousness. That's such an iconic show and you developing such an iconic personality in your laugh and like being known on such a big level and then you having just, just the gusto to keep going, which you have to have anyway in entertainment. And so I feel like for you, because even pivoting from rap into country, I mean people are gonna probably have judgments about that.
Chanel West Coast
You know, so many comments.
Podcast Host 1
I'm sure everything you do, but it's like you're kind of at the place now where I feel like you're just like, this is me. I'm a badass. I'm gonna do this. And I'm actually really great at everything I set my mind to because it's what I'm supposed to do.
Chanel West Coast
Yep.
Podcast Host 1
But that is, I feel like a gift in itself of having that confidence because this entertainment industry, I for me at least, and I am like just like on a scratch of it. It can like break your spirit so hard.
Chanel West Coast
No, it gets hard. Like I think I've definitely have developed like the thickest skin. Like I am a much tougher person now. Growing up I was a little bit like more of like a softy part of why I started rapping was because I felt like it was kind of my way to, like, talk my shit. And like, yes, like, that was, like, where I could get bold. You know what I mean?
Podcast Host 1
I'm like.
Chanel West Coast
I'm like, I'm shy normally, but on this song, I'm going to say what
Podcast Host 2
I can pop off.
Chanel West Coast
Exactly.
Podcast Host 1
I love it.
Chanel West Coast
That's kind of what made me want to ra. In a way. It was like, po. I liked writing poetry, but, like, it was also like a. Where. A place where I could vent and just say what I wanted and. And rap, you know, sadly, has changed a little bit. Like, I still love hip hop, love rap, but I'm a mom now. It was a lot of, like, I. I mean, I don't know how much I could say here, but, like, it's a lot of, like, pop that. Like, I'm like, yeah, yeah. I'm like, I'm not trying to talk about that. Like, I'm not classy, you know? Like, even though I was always kind of like a little, like, ratchet kid, like, you know, like. Like, that's for me, something I would never talk about. Like, I don't talk about my sex life, things like that. And I felt like that became really about, like, what female rappers were rapping about when I was a kid. It was like, Lauryn Hill, Missy Elliott,
Podcast Host 2
girl, don't play with me in Lauryn Hill.
Chanel West Coast
You know what I'm saying? Like, these. These were really talented women who were true lyricists, true poets. Really, really freaking talented. And they were all kind of classy, you know what I'm saying? There was never this, like, ratchetness, like, talking about your pussy, like, whap. Yeah. No. Like, I love Cardi B. I know you tour with her, right? I opened for her.
Podcast Host 1
Okay. Was that amazing?
Chanel West Coast
So much fun. Like, she's literally the funniest, funnest person ever. Love her, but. So I'm not going to dis.
Podcast Host 1
No, she does, but you're just not trying to sing that.
Chanel West Coast
I'm not trying to rap about that stuff. And so I think that that's where country suits me so much more. Is like, I am a storyteller. I have so much I want to talk about, but it's a. It's a lot more family friendly, you know what I mean? I'm still making fun party songs in country and, like, and showing the real Chanel, like, that side of me that people love. But I just want to make songs about my daughter. I want to make songs about my Relationship songs, more about my upbringing, letting people know where I come from. Which I felt like, you know, you can do that in rap.
Podcast Host 2
Where are you from?
Chanel West Coast
It's complicated. So I was born and raised in la, but I have no family there. My mom just decided to birth me, raise me there. Why? She ran away from home when she was 16. From Ohio to LA. And I need to make a movie about my mom's life, honestly.
Podcast Host 1
But she's so close to their family in Ohio.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah, we're very close. So that's what I'm about to tell you. So I grew up like it was like the day summer vacation freaking started. I was off on a plane. I'd go spend half my summer in Ohio with my mom's family and then the other half with my dad and his family in New York. My dad was in New York. It's a very common.
Podcast Host 1
He's a big dj.
Chanel West Coast
He was a big. He passed away two years ago, sadly.
Podcast Host 1
I'm so sorry.
Chanel West Coast
But he was like a really big club DJ in New York City. Hip hop dj. And so like the juxtaposition of like, it's like, it was crazy. I'd be in a small town in Ohio, nothing to frickin do.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Chanel West Coast
But hang out with my cousins, like raft on a slow river, like, you
Podcast Host 1
know what I mean? Kind of love that slow river.
Chanel West Coast
It actually is kind of fun. Like just like I crave that, you know. But this is also like as a kid, this is before you could drink. It's a lot funner when you're drinking, rafting down a river. I know that now as an adult. But yeah, like my upbringing was so. Because I even say like, I think it's like those core memories when you're a kid with your family. Like I have more memories in Ohio with my cousins. Like I did the paper route with my cousins. People are like, did you grow up in the 50s? And I'm like, no, it was Ohio.
Podcast Host 2
I love that.
Chanel West Coast
You know, like we would go around riding bikes, like throw in the paper, like, like I got this really wholesome kind of upbringing, going to visit them in Ohio. Then I'd come back to my life, go to school in la. And I remember like I could tell my life wasn't like, like a normal life growing up in la. Like I had a ton of friends who had single parents. That's not how it was with my friends and my family in Ohio. Everybody's got this wholesome little family in Ohio and it's like real tight knit communities. It's not like that in la. So I got to experience a really wholesome, like, great upbringing. Going to Ohio and then I'd go to visit my dad in New York and like, that was a crazy life. Like, my dad would take me to work sometimes in the club. Oh, I don't even know. I'm like, who was running this place? How was I allowed in there?
Podcast Host 1
You know? What was that?
Chanel West Coast
It was. It was fun. I like, that inspired me so much.
Podcast Host 1
Is that what got your love going?
Chanel West Coast
My dad, like, he was DJing back before there was like, the technology that does it for you. Like, you actually had to have an ear for music and know how to mix songs.
Podcast Host 1
Oh, yeah.
Chanel West Coast
And he was doing it all on vinyl. And I'd like, watch this man, like, sweating, trying to hurry up and get the vinyl record changed in time. And like. And he'd be in the club just like, turning it up. And like, I just feel like seeing him do that really inspired me to want to be a performer and like, be in. In kind of that nightlife, you know? But, yeah, so it's interesting. So mainly grew up in la, but that was in Ohio, New York a lot as well.
Podcast Host 1
Were your parents ever married or were they split from the start?
Chanel West Coast
No. And I joke all the time that, like, I've never 100% felt like my soul was meant to be in LA.
Podcast Host 1
Okay.
Chanel West Coast
So my parents hooked up and conceived me in New York.
Podcast Host 1
Okay.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah, they did.
Podcast Host 1
So is it just like my soul
Chanel West Coast
came to New York? My soul was trying to be in the city that never sleeps. And my mom decided when because they didn't, you know, they didn't work out or whatever. So when she was just pregnant with me, she decided to go back to Cali because she was living in New York just for a couple years, and that's when she met my dad.
Podcast Host 1
Was she an actress or an entertainment?
Chanel West Coast
No, she was in, like, sales and like, marketing and stuff like that.
Podcast Host 2
And.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah. And so she decided to, you know, birth me and raise me in la. But, like, yeah, my whole life I've always felt a more of a connection with the east coast and kind of the Midwest. I think I was meant to be more on this side of the country.
Podcast Host 2
That makes sense.
Chanel West Coast
You know what I mean? Yeah, it's so funny. Did you guys ever see the Disney soul movie?
Podcast Host 1
Yes. Like, where you feel like you gotta watch it. It talks about your soul and, like, how the guy dies. Isn't he a musician?
Chanel West Coast
It made me think so deeply. But it was after watching that movie where I Was like, my soul wasn't meant to be here. I know. My soul was meant to be a new.
Podcast Host 2
I feel like it would make me cry.
Chanel West Coast
It would. It's a really.
Podcast Host 2
Like, I'm a crybaby.
Chanel West Coast
Me too.
Podcast Host 1
Every day, literally.
Chanel West Coast
It's one of those kids movies that's, like, actually very deep. I feel like life lessons. It's a little more for adults in a weird way. My mom watched it with me, and she was like, who was tripping on acid to meet this movie? So, like, you should watch it, though. It's really. It's really great.
Podcast Host 2
I should. I have one random question for you.
Chanel West Coast
Okay.
Podcast Host 2
So I know that you're, like, now venturing into country music. My. My gut is telling me that you are, like, trying to basically heal your soul and, like, write your music and through poetry, with the songs.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
So what do you think is your, like, biggest dream in the country music realm?
Chanel West Coast
My biggest dream in the country music realm really is just to make music that connects with this group of people, with this genre, with everybody who listens to country. Like, I want them to hear my music and genuinely feel like this wasn't, like, contrived or like, she's just trying to make it and just switching up to country. Like, I want them to feel the realness in it, that country's in my roots, it's in my blood, and I just want people to really be able to relate to my songs. Like, that's why I want to put out more songs about my daughter and. And stuff like that, because I feel like people need more songs like that to relate to. And that's also why I love doing country now, because I just feel like there's a lot more, deeper, like, meaningful songs that can be made in this genre than versus, like, hip hop and rap.
Podcast Host 2
I would agree. I think, like, definitely that country definitely leads more towards the ability to feel something through a song.
Podcast Host 1
Totally.
Podcast Host 2
And you're married to a country music artist.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah. And, you know, like, I got my start as a country music singer back in the day. Really? Yeah. I've lived 100 lives as well. But I feel like, with me, like, becoming a mom completely, like, shifted my entire life.
Chanel West Coast
Same.
Podcast Host 1
Did you feel that way? And it took me, like, two years to recalibrate, and I never. I was never the same since, but, like, the old me completely died, and it had to figure out how to live again, how to incorporate my old life with a new life. Did you go through that metamorphosis becoming a mom?
Chanel West Coast
I did.
Podcast Host 1
And how did you Manage it. Cause you're doing it on your own reality show. Cause that's when you started your own show, right?
Chanel West Coast
Yeah. So it was through doing my show. It's such a crazy story. I need a book. I need a movie.
Podcast Host 1
You need all of it.
Chanel West Coast
It's, like, so much to tell in the short amount of time. But basically, I had got to a point where I was on the verge of giving up on music.
Podcast Host 1
Really?
Chanel West Coast
Yes. It was just like I said, I'm out here. If you listen to my America Sweetheart album, everybody should check it out. I was rapping my heart and soul out on there. Really good and singing. But I put so much. Like, I sat there writing these amazing songs, like, put so much of my heart and soul into it. And then, like, a song, like, about somebody popping their pussy comes out, and it's like, number one. And I'm like. I started to feel like I'm, like, competing in this crazy rat race, and, like, it's stupid. I'm not going to dumb myself down to compete with anybody ever. And I kind of just got tired of it. So then I got pregnant.
Podcast Host 1
Was that planned or an accident?
Chanel West Coast
It was an accident.
Commercial/Ad Voice
Okay.
Chanel West Coast
But the best accident, it was not an accident. It was meant to be.
Podcast Host 2
It was fun.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, it was.
Chanel West Coast
No.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, right?
Chanel West Coast
Yeah, it was a fun accident. Oh, yeah. In the moment, it was definitely fun.
Podcast Host 2
It was fun.
Chanel West Coast
But, no, it wasn't an accident. It was meant to be. And that's what I realize now, too. Like, I even say this all the time. If my music career blew up years ago, when I really wanted it to, I wouldn't be with the man I'm with now. I would not have this adorable baby who is, like, my freaking unreal.
Podcast Host 1
Her cuteness, so cute, Right? Unbelievable.
Chanel West Coast
She is my heart and soul. Like, my life. I love her so freaking much. And so I see, like, oh, my God. God had this plan for me, like, and now that I have her, that's what happened. So I was kind of on the verge of giving up. And then mtv, I had pitched them a million pilots, and then finally they, like, bit. Because I think I was, like, blowing up when I was pregnant. Like, everybody's Googling, who's the baby daddy? Oh. So they were seeing all these, like, Google searches. Surgery.
Podcast Host 1
Had you and Dom come out, or were y', all, like, undercover a couple?
Chanel West Coast
No, we were, like, you know, openly dating, whatever. And. And so they were like, we want to give you your own show. And I was like, finally. I've only.
Podcast Host 1
I was.
Chanel West Coast
I was like, where Was the show when I was opening for Cardi B and Lil Wayne and, like, doing all this cool shit in my career, you know? And so Now I'm like, 60 pounds overweight, new mother, and I'm like, you want to give me a show now?
Podcast Host 1
Actually, honestly, I find I could see why. Because I want to know what you're like as a new mom. I do. Because, like, everyone knows you as the entertainer, performer, looking beautiful and pretty, but, like, people want see the real you.
Chanel West Coast
Oh, they definitely got to see it. I mean, I was 60 pounds overweight. I mean, they're you. They showed me in the pool with my baby, no makeup on. I'm like, I cannot believe I'm letting people see.
Podcast Host 1
Was that kind of, like, a cathartic moment, though, to, like, just be like, here I am?
Chanel West Coast
Yes. No, I, I, I don't mind it. It's like, I will still let people see me looking like a bum. I don't care. But they're gonna see me looking glam way more. You know what I mean? And. And so. But when I got the show, though, I'm like, that's what made me go full force with my music again. Cause I'm like, what am I gonna do? Have a show now and not show what I've been working my ass off doing for 16 years? Like. Like, f that. I'm like, now that I have a show, I'm going hard with my music again, and that's what they're gonna follow. And it was like, I was bumping heads a little with the producer and stuff, too, because they wanted it to be so much, like, at home with the baby. And I'm like, do you guys know who I am? Like, I am a career person. I'm doing music. I'm doing gigs all over the place. Like, we're traveling, baby. We're filming in New York. We're filming in Miami. It became an expensive show. You know, probably why we didn't get a second season, because MTV's broke. But. But it was what made me be like, I want to revamp my music. I want to change my life. I want to inspire my daughter. Like, I never want my daughter to grow up and hear from somebody like, oh, your mom's like, the girl who never made it with music. Like, oh, she's just. Your mom's the girl with the girl with the laugh from the show. I want her to grow up. Like, my mom's a boss who followed her dreams and made it happen.
Podcast Host 2
I will say, I don't think that she will ever think that, agree, like, after meeting you, there's simply no way that she could ever think that about you.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you.
Podcast Host 1
I totally agree. But you're, I think you being such an incredible performer. It sounds like you're really hard yourself. Like, you've got really strong goals and it's like you're going to accomplish them and like, if you don't get them, you're like, oh, this I didn't achieve all of my, you know, everything that I could. But really, I mean, you've achieved so much.
Chanel West Coast
You started when you were like 14 years old.
Podcast Host 1
You know, you've. Your whole real adult cognitive brain has been like performing for people in the public's eye, you know?
Chanel West Coast
Yeah, no, it's been, it's been like you said, it's like I've lived like 80 different lives, 100 lives. 100 lives in this time period. And most people only know ridiculousness because it's so oversaturated and so pushed in people's faces. And my music's super indie and a little bit more behind the scenes, but that's what we're working towards is like the music I want to be in the forefront now. And yeah, I think, I think it's gonna really help people, like, know my story. And also I think my story a lot of people will be able to relate to too. Like, you know, growing up with my parents, completely separated, like only child, always freaking alone, like, like just I think so many people can relate to that. And that's like why I want to get my story out more in this music, you know? I'm Malcolm Gladwell, host of Smart Talks with IBM. I spoke with Alon Cohen, who heads research and development at ufc. He shared how AI puts action into context.

What was it like growing up as an only child? Because I have an only child and she's probably gonna stay an only child. Are you gonna have more children? I don't know. You don't know? You're just letting it, let it go.
Chanel West Coast
After going through that journey to get my body back, it was hard.
Podcast Host 2
Also, girl, after seeing your fiance, how could you be an only we gotta have no children.
Podcast Host 1
Accident might just happen.
Chanel West Coast
That's.
Podcast Host 2
So you might have more fun.
Chanel West Coast
No, but that's, that's why I'm like, I don't want to lose my body because it's like, bless his heart, like best looking man ever. And he stayed with me when I was fat as hell, looking like at my worst. And he deserves, like, he deserves a supermodel. So I'm like, I'm trying to look my best for him, you know?
Podcast Host 1
Okay. But you are, you are so beautiful no matter what size you are. And, like, I think that that's being a woman that's. We're so, so hard on herself. Like, I can pick myself to pieces, but really, it's like, you grew a child, you know, your hormones are insane coming back down. It took me a year, like, a couple years to get back to, like, myself. Like, it's a whole body mind revolution going on, dude.
Chanel West Coast
A couple years. Like, I was so emotional for two years.
Podcast Host 1
Two years. Two solid years.
Chanel West Coast
Out of nowhere, I, like, stopped crying and I was like, oh, I think. I think I'm over this. Like, extra emotional.
Podcast Host 2
I'm cured.
Chanel West Coast
I was like, yeah, I'm back. To me.
Podcast Host 1
I think it's two years.
Chanel West Coast
It's. It's.
Podcast Host 1
I think it's two years. I think it's two years postpartum. I really do.
Chanel West Coast
I literally was, like, crying about everything for two years. And then all of a sudden, like, I just felt happy again.
Podcast Host 1
You got your life back. Yeah. Like, and probably right then your body started feeling good again. It's like. And you're like, oh, that's when you. It's like. And that's when people normally get pregnant again. And then they get right back into the cycle.
Chanel West Coast
No, see, and then my. So after those two years, then my music started, like, really buzzing. Like, things started going crazy. And so now I'm in the space of, like, back full force with my music, and it's like, there's not time, really. Like, I already feel guilty that I haven't been with Bowie for three days. She's flying in tonight. I can't wait. Yeah, she's gonna. She's gonna have some time with her grandparents here. Cause my fiance's family lives here.
Podcast Host 2
Okay.
Chanel West Coast
So. So she gets grandparent time while we get to, like, enjoy CMA Fest and have a little bit of couple time this weekend. But it's hard, you know, like, even leaving her for three days, you come back and she's like, saying all these new words, and I'm like, I missed her, like, learning a whole new sentence. You know what I mean? And I do. And so that's hard. And I think right now, with where my music's at, not time for another baby right at the moment, but maybe one day, because I love kids.
Podcast Host 1
So are you doing this independently or how. Okay, how is that?
Chanel West Coast
I'm fully indie. I've been indie forever.
Podcast Host 2
Good for you.
Podcast Host 1
And honestly, that's the way to do it.
Chanel West Coast
It's so.
Podcast Host 1
With your fan base.
Chanel West Coast
Well, it's so much creative freedom.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Chanel West Coast
The labels really try to control you. Oh, for sure. I've had a couple bad deals when I was younger. Like a horrible production deal with a big producer. Actually, Kane Brown was signed to the same producer. I feel bad we're blasting the producer. I won't even say his name, but.
Podcast Host 1
Well, he should feel bad that he took advantage of two people.
Chanel West Coast
He put us in terrible deals.
Podcast Host 2
What's his name? I'm ready. I'm ready.
Chanel West Coast
Amazing producer. He's produced lots of hits.
Podcast Host 1
You know what, though? They take advantage of the youth. I feel that way. I had Ashley angel from O Town on here. And it's like when you're so young, you have no idea what you're signing. And it is literally, like, predatory the way they take advantage of the youth.
Chanel West Coast
I signed my life.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Chanel West Coast
I believe I had to go through, like, financial hell. Like, it's. It's such a long story. And so then I was presented another deal. Big label, who a lot of huge artists are signed to. And I hadn't signed the deal yet, but in the first month of working with them, they were getting really controlling, like, sending me songs like, hey, we think you should do this song. And I was like, that song is freaking cheesy. I'm not cutting that. Like, I don't even like it. Like. Like, why am I going to do a song I don't like? I'm. Like, I said, I'm hands on. I have my creative vision. I'm like, nobody's telling me what to do. So, like, I'm. That's how I am. And labels don't like people like that.
Podcast Host 2
I think it's powerful, though, to be your own brand.
Chanel West Coast
Y.
Podcast Host 2
And like, don't let them control your own brand. So that's super powerful to still say indie. I have a question for you, though. You've been so hard on yourself your entire life.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
What is your favorite thing about yourself?
Chanel West Coast
Probably just, like, how resilient I am, like, to bounce back, you know?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah. I think that I just wanted something positive.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
I was like, I'm so obsessed with you.
Chanel West Coast
Oh, thank you. I love you. I'm obsessed with you already too, by the way. Energy is everything to me.
Podcast Host 2
Yeah.
Chanel West Coast
Like, and. And that's. That's also why I'm now shifting into country music, because I feel like the energy had gotten weird. And hip hop and rap, it got a little just too, like, dark, I guess you could say. But I love your energy. So we're about to be new besties.
Podcast Host 1
I keep it hot for you. I'M showing you. My absolute mom. Hot mess.
Chanel West Coast
Oh, my God. No. I'm like, I want to move here. I've been trying to convince my fiance.
Podcast Host 1
Well, his family lives here.
Chanel West Coast
I know, but, babe, we'd have way more babysitters.
Podcast Host 2
Oh.
Podcast Host 1
And then you wouldn't feel as bad because you knew that when you're gone, she's with her grandparents.
Chanel West Coast
Yes, but it's been hard because he's such an LA guy. He loves the weather there, all that.
Podcast Host 1
And he's a model, right?
Chanel West Coast
But. Yes. Well, he doesn't.
Podcast Host 2
Yes, he is. Well, have you seen him?
Chanel West Coast
I was gonna say, have you seen him?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah. I'm not blind.
Podcast Host 1
No.
Chanel West Coast
That's also why it's hard. So he does real estate in LA, too. And so, like, he just sold, like, a $3 million house there. And he's like, baby's like, I'm finally doing good in a market that sucks. Like, I can't leave now, you know?
Podcast Host 1
Well, you know, timing is everything. And then if it's on your heart, it will come back around.
Chanel West Coast
I think so. And that's what I was gonna say.
Podcast Host 1
And you're laying the foundation.
Chanel West Coast
When I move here, we. We need to be besties.
Podcast Host 1
We'll be besties. Our daughters can hang out.
Chanel West Coast
Mom vibes. I can already tell. Like, we'll be having a great time.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, yeah.
Podcast Host 1
I mean, I'm always gonna be a little bit of a train wreck, but,
Podcast Host 2
like,
Podcast Host 1
I just love you so much.
Podcast Host 2
Buckle up, buttercup.
Podcast Host 1
You're so going with the flow. I mean, we. I came in so hot. Nothing was going correctly. And you're just like, it's fine. It's great.
Chanel West Coast
Do you know how go with the flow?
Podcast Host 1
I am. Yes, I do, actually.
Chanel West Coast
Yesterday, my heel broke off my boot. The old me back in my 20s would've been freaking out. I was like, what? Like, I would have been like, what the fuck?
Podcast Host 2
Oh, my God.
Chanel West Coast
And I was literally like, dude, it's fine. Can somebody try to screw it back in for me? Or, like, who's got glue?
Podcast Host 2
Yeah. Like, there's nothing you can do about it at that point.
Chanel West Coast
Like, it was.
Podcast Host 2
You just gotta go.
Chanel West Coast
It was the funniest thing. So we had a maintenance guy from Posties. Cause my girl's the GM at Posties, and so she's like, let's go get the maintenance guy to try and fix the shoe. And so this guy, like, determined, and he's, like, drilling it, and he's like, okay. So I finally kind of figured it out, but it might poke her in the Foot. I was like, well, I can't do that. So, like, he's like, let me get some glue. Finally glues it back on. And then I had to perform at Bootleggers last night. And so I made sure to tell the audience. I said, guys, if you just see me, like trip and stumble and fall off stage, I am up here with a glued on heel right now. But we're gonna make it work. Everybody thought it was hilarious. They're like, we love that you just came and performed with your broken fucking heel.
Podcast Host 2
You know, I love that stuff.
Podcast Host 1
That's so amazing.
Chanel West Coast
I really just roll with the punches these days.
Podcast Host 1
I think that's the best. And honestly, the life like you've had where you just started from the start because you didn't even mean to get into this business. Right? Like, you manifested it. But, like, the way you got into ridiculousness, it was kind of like I
Chanel West Coast
was not planning for reality TV or to ever be a host or anything like that. Like, I always just wanted to do music. And so it just, it was like a fluke thing. But I realize now too that I was meant to do that because I don't want to cry or get emotional. But so many people tell me they're like, your laugh, like, saved my dad's life. Like, I'm going to cry. Like, people have been like, makes me want to cry. That's. People have literally been in the hospital and been like, my dad was dying. Like, your laugh kept him alive.
Podcast Host 2
We passed.
Chanel West Coast
And you know what, though?
Podcast Host 1
Like, like he was saying, you're so hard on yourself. And you're saying, I want to be more than the laugh girl.
Chanel West Coast
But, like, what we mean more than
Podcast Host 1
anything is joy, though.
Chanel West Coast
And that's what I'm saying is, like, people need joy. I feel like I didn't know it, but God in some, in some way wanted me to, like, to bring joy to people through laugh and humor and.
Podcast Host 2
And, well, guess what? It's working.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah. Like, so I would not ever change anything. Like, I'm so happy I did ridiculousness. But I do feel that I'm at this point now where I'm super appreciative. Like I just said, I'm so appreciative and I'm so happy I made all these people laugh and gave them all this joy. But that's what I'm trying to do now through my music. Like, I want to bring that same joy, but doing, like, what I'm passionate about, you know?
Podcast Host 2
Let's do it, sis. Yeah, I'm ready.
Podcast Host 1
Are you crying, too?
Podcast Host 2
I'm literally crying.
Chanel West Coast
At least it was towards the end of this, so I wasn't, like, with crazy makeup the whole podcast.
Podcast Host 2
I'm officially your number one fan now.
Chanel West Coast
Aw, thank you.
Podcast Host 2
Do you have a fan club? Cause I will run.
Podcast Host 1
He's the president. No, I'm excited.
Chanel West Coast
I just decided I'm gonna call. Cause everybody's like, you need to call your fans. Some, like, how there's, like, the Swifties or whatever. And I was like, I don't wanna, like, call them something. Like, I feel like I'm too respectful of you. And I just came up with, I'm gonna start calling my fans the Wild Westies. Huh?
Podcast Host 2
I am president of the Wild Westies. CEO of Charge.
Chanel West Coast
I love it.
Podcast Host 1
I mean, you really are phenomenal. Thank you. You've done so much. It's truly inspiring. And you're so young, and you have so much. I mean, you just have so many goals. I feel like they're never ending. Where do you want to end up? Like, where is your goal? Do you know?
Chanel West Coast
Are you just going to flow honestly? Like, it used to be? Like, I got to. I'm trying to be Beyonce, but I'm. I'm just, like, at a more peaceful place in life now. It's like, I literally just want to be able to put out good music, keep my creative freedom, and just, like, spread happiness. Like, I don't need to be a billionaire. Like, I'm not. You know what I mean? Like, I don't need to even sell out freaking arenas. Like, even if I was just performing in dive bars forever. Like, I don't care. Like, I just love making music and. And getting it to whoever appreciates it. Like, you know what I mean?
Podcast Host 1
Yeah, I totally do. And also, you've seen the underbelly of fame and all that. Like, once you see that, it's, like, kind of probably loses its luster.
Chanel West Coast
I've seen, you know, I've been around a lot of. I've seen crazy stuff. I mean. Yeah. Like, and I see people who, you know, have been at a real high, and then they, like, get into drugs or whatever, and the next thing you know, they never have a hit again. And I'm like, oh, my God. Like, they were like, what? How did that happen? And, you know, I think a lot of people lose their self in Hollywood and in this industry and.
Podcast Host 2
Easy to do.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah, it's really easy. Like, so I'm just happy that I've, you know, stayed kind of. And that's also what I feel, too. Like, I feel like maybe God wanted me to go in different directions, to stay away from certain crowds and you
Podcast Host 1
could grow up, you know, and not get totally lost in it.
Chanel West Coast
Yeah.
Podcast Host 1
And still have such a strong input. You're impacting so strongly, but, like, you're not being swallowed alive.
Chanel West Coast
Yep.
Podcast Host 1
Okay, well, we got to wrap up Anything. I always leave with one question. I mean, Zach, are you good? Are you, like, your soul is like. Yeah.
Podcast Host 2
I'm just so obsessed with you.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you. I love it.
Podcast Host 2
Literally. I just feel it's, like, so happy and light right now, like, just being in your presence.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you.
Podcast Host 2
That. It literally just makes me so happy and light. And I legitimately just want the best for you.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you.
Podcast Host 2
And I'm proud of you.
Chanel West Coast
Thank you. I'm proud of you guys, too, because I, like, literally, I love how we just all came in here, rolled with.
Podcast Host 1
No, we just did it.
Chanel West Coast
You just randomly, like, fuck it. I'm joining the podcast.
Podcast Host 2
Here we go.
Podcast Host 1
I found Zach in the kitchen. I was like, zach, can you save the day? He's like, yeah, I can save. I'll try. I'm like, zach, you're gonna save the day.
Chanel West Coast
That's a great together, though, too. You should do a show together.
Podcast Host 1
I love Zach forever.
Podcast Host 2
Play with me.
Podcast Host 1
Well, Zach's. Zach's already so famous. You have so many shows going on.
Podcast Host 2
Shut up.
Chanel West Coast
I mean, you are.
Podcast Host 2
You are.
Podcast Host 1
He's like, the river and all the. I mean, what else are you doing? You probably have your own podcast.
Podcast Host 2
I have my own podcast. I also host a nationally syndicated show for the LGBTQ plus community
Chanel West Coast
Pride Month.
Podcast Host 2
Oh, Happy Pride Month.
Chanel West Coast
I know. I've had a few people, because it's pride in WeHo this weekend, and so a few people are like, girl, you coming? You coming out with. I said, I'm at CMA Fest doing all. What? You're not coming out?
Podcast Host 2
No, girl, I'm working.
Podcast Host 1
Yeah.
Chanel West Coast
Literally, I'm like, I'm working, but I'm like, I'm still representing from here for y'.
Podcast Host 2
All. We love an ally.
Podcast Host 1
Yes, I know.
Chanel West Coast
La's. It's crazy these days, but that's what's amazing about it is the cultural diversity and just. It's a city that accepts everyone one. So that's. That's one of the hard parts of leaving la, too. Yeah. Okay.
Podcast Host 1
I always wrap up because I know you have to go. Thank you for letting us run late and. But you know what? I feel like this, like, turned out how it's supposed to. If it wouldn't have been A disaster. We wouldn't have ended up like this. It was a totally different experience.
Chanel West Coast
It was an accident. That's not an accident.
Podcast Host 1
Exactly.
Podcast Host 2
It was fun.
Podcast Host 1
All the best things are fun.
Podcast Host 2
Yes.
Podcast Host 1
I always wrap up with Leave youe Light. It's just super open ended. What do you want people to know? Drop some inspiration.
Chanel West Coast
Oh man. Just. I just want people out there to know that you. There's going to be a lot of people in life who make you feel like you're not as big as you are. Right. Like, a lot of people are not 100 happy with themselves. And I think that they're the. They're the friend that's like, oh, I don't know if you should try that. I don't know about that. Like, it's always like a person making a comment like that who's going to deter you from doing what you want to do. Like, don't listen to those people. Like, I want everybody out there to know, like, if you truly listen to your heart and follow your heart, sometimes it's not the best decision for your life. But like, I swear, following your heart will always lead to what's meant to happen for you.
Podcast Host 1
Agreed.
Chanel West Coast
And that's what I. I truly believe. Cuz it's like I should have followed my head a couple times, but I knew that from what I did. Following my heart like, led to what was supposed to happen, you know?
Podcast Host 1
And it's never a mistake. It might feel like kind of a mistake when it's happening, but you look back and it pieces together and like, that was totally, absolutely meant to be that way.
Chanel West Coast
Yep.
Podcast Host 1
I love that. Anything else you want to wrap up with? No. Besides, you're in love.
Podcast Host 2
I'm just going to cry.
Podcast Host 1
Zach's just like, he needs to go lay down.
Podcast Host 2
I need a nap now.
Chanel West Coast
I'm like, I need a nap. I need a nap too.
Podcast Host 1
You're just getting started.
Chanel West Coast
It's been a crazy week and it's barely like today. It's really about to go, girl, get ready. I know, I've been. I'm living off caffeine right now.
Podcast Host 1
You got this. Thank you so much for coming on. Thank you so much for letting us go late. Thank you, Zach, for joining. I mean this, for having me. This was so much fun. Like, I had a thrill of my life. Chanel West Coast. Go out there and rock it. Nashville loves you. We love you. This was so much fun.

The Bobby Bones Show (iHeartPodcasts)
Date: August 15, 2026
This lively, candid episode dives deep into the life, career, and reinvention of Chanel West Coast. Known for her infectious laugh and presence on MTV's "Ridiculousness," Chanel gets real about her journey: from reality TV fame and battling being misunderstood, to her passion for music—especially her fresh pivot into country—and the transformative experience of motherhood. The hosts and Chanel swap stories, laugh, and get vulnerable about ambition, self-doubt, and following your heart.
Chanel reflects on her rise to fame and how being on "Ridiculousness" has defined and, sometimes, overshadowed her image.
"Our show has more episodes than The Simpsons." (05:15)
"Half my comments were edited out... It looks like I'm just this annoying girl who laughs at anything, which I don't." (05:48)
"It was a job that still brought me a lot of joy... But my passion is music and I just really want the world to know me for that." (15:11)
Chanel discusses her lifelong passion for music, musical influences, industry challenges, and her move toward country music.
"My mom knew, too. Like, everybody in my life kind of knew. Like, she's gonna do music." (10:04)
"Every music video I've ever put out, I came up with the concept... I do my own makeup on TV." (12:56)
"A lot of labels, artists kind of steal what I'm doing and use it for their artists and I never get my credit." (13:49)
"Country suits me so much more. I have so much I want to talk about, and it's a lot more family friendly." (20:46)
"I want them to feel the realness in it, that country’s in my roots, it’s in my blood" (25:49)
Chanel opens up about motherhood, self-image, and a new sense of purpose.
"[He] didn't even get on his knee because he knows I do not like low angles." (09:01)
"I was kind of on the verge of giving up. And then MTV... finally, they like, bit." (28:39)
"They showed me in the pool with my baby, no makeup on. I cannot believe I'm letting people see [that]." (29:35)
"Even leaving her for three days, you come back and she’s saying all these new words, and I’m like, I missed her learning a whole new sentence." (36:48)
Conversations on developing toughness, learning creative independence, and the impact of representation.
"How resilient I am, to bounce back, you know?" (38:52)
"I think I’ve definitely developed the thickest skin." (19:13)
"Don’t listen to those people... Following your heart will always lead to what's meant to happen for you." (46:48)
“So many people be like, that girl doesn’t do anything but sit there...I would say so much when I’m filming, and then after the editing, you just see me laugh.” (05:59)
“It’s funny because we get that reaction a lot. Like, 'This is actually good.' I’m like, were you expecting me to just make horrible music?” (14:15)
“The labels really try to control you… I’m hands on. I have my creative vision. I’m like, nobody’s telling me what to do.” (38:22)
"So many people tell me, they're like, your laugh saved my dad's life... People have literally been in the hospital and been like, my dad was dying, your laugh kept him alive." (41:30)
"If you truly listen to your heart and follow your heart...following your heart will always lead to what's meant to happen for you." (46:48)
Chanel West Coast delivers a funny, vulnerable, and motivational conversation—sharing not just the highlights of her eclectic career, but also her struggles with being stereotyped, her creative ambitions, and the everyday realities behind the camera. Ultimately, she emphasizes resilience, authenticity, the joy of connecting with people (through laughter or music), and staying true to one's dreams—no matter how winding the road.
