Good day everyone and I'm your host, SSG Bright. Welcome to the Bright Line podcast. First of all, let's start off off top more the most high God less of man. Our Father who are in heaven. Our God of the Bible. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. Our God who is eschological. Our God who is mind bending. Our God who is extremely complex. We give you eschatological praise, we give you ecological worship and we do so by the way of Yeshua, in which the world's called Jesus Christ. Amen. All praises. Today's topic is the Tower of Babel. It is in the book of Genesis, chapter 11, verse 3 to 10 that we learn about what is considered the very first skyscraper ever built, or at least attempt to be built. This tower was intended to reach the heavens so that one may ascend and commune directly with God himself. But it was more than just a bridge to connect man with his creator, but a staple of man to determine where they each belong. In a hub in a hub, if you will. So each man could find his way back so as to avoid being scattered across the earth. Unfortunately for those construction tower scattered is what exactly happened to them. It was the descendants of Noah who were living in the ancient area of Mesopotamia, whereby they came to settle in a land known as Shinar, modern day Babylon, Iraq. The Bible tells us that these men of the earth, of the whole earth, spoke with one language. God saw that their unified language gave them boundless potential destructive capabilities. And now nothing will be restrained from them which they have imagined to do so the halter can see. God calls the people to speak different languages, therefore, is the name of the of it called Babel. Unable to understand one another, the construction stopped and the children of men scattered across all the earth. This highlights humanity's relying entirely on his successive human pride and dangerous ambition to elevate itself to godlike status. In the Book of Genesis, chapter 11, verse 10. It marks the beginning of the generational line of Shem, one of Noah's sons. It act as a major turning point in the Bible, narrowing the narrative focus from the whole of humanity, the global nations, down to a single specific bloodline that ultimately leads to Abraham and the nation of Israel called the line of blessings. Noah previously previously prophesied that God would dwell in the tents of Sham. So this is in the book of Genesis. Genesis chapter 9, verse 26, verse 26 indicates that it initiates the tracing of that blessed lineage which established the ancestry of the Messiah. Genesis 1, verse 1, 2, 3. Genesis 1, verse 11 covers the creation focus that God focus and shifts from the university history of mankind to the specific come covenantal history of Israel. Beginning with Abraham. They called him Abram. Abram then now sudden setting the stage for the man Abram. The verse begins at a tight 10 generational genealogy connecting Noah to Abram, later Abraham. It demonstrates God's ongoing grace and faithfulness, showing that despite mankind's repeated sin, God is actually actively preserving a remnant and setting a plan for the salvation of the world. Canaan, the promised land, was in Africa. It was the land of Israel. A gift from Yah to his chosen people. Yeah, yeah, we're not from here, we're from Israel. Southside, our home state. Pause. So therefore a severe famine strikes Canaan, forcing Abram to travel to Egypt to survive. Fearful that his wife Beauty will cause the Egyptians to kill him so they can take her, he devised a plan to lie. Abram instructs Sarah, her name was then it was Sarah, not Sarah. So. So Abram instructs Sarah to say she is his sister, omitted that she she is his wife, driving him to preservation, causing him to put his own interests ahead of his wife, honor and safety. His failure because Abrams lie threatens the bloodline through which the promised seed will come. God steps in with divine individual. He inflicts severe plagues on Pharaoh and his household, revealing the truth of the situation. Because everybody back then was familiar with God laws and they have heard of the stories over and over again. So Pharaoh confronts Abram. Abram about this, this deep deception and banishes him from is from Egypt, forcing him to leave with all of the wealth he had accumulated while he was there. And despite Abraham's Abram's lack of faith and willingness to compromise his wife, God's promises are not stopped. God remains faithful even when we are faithless. This is how fear caused people to acceptlessly and lose sight of God's provision. In the book of Genesis, chapter 13, verse 1 through 4, Abram returns to the land promised to him and he separates with Lot. Abram was very rich in livestock and silver and in gold. And he went on his journey from the south as far as Bethel to the place where his tent had been at the beginning. The place of the altar which he had made when he was first there. And there Abram called on the name of the Lord. At this point, Abram did not. At this point, Abram did what he should. Instead of agonizing over his past sin, he did what he needed to be doing, calling on the name of the Lord. In the Book of Revelations, chapter 2, verse 4 through 5. God wants the children to walk in their love and their first works. So there was contention that came between Abram and Lot. Because Lot also went with Abram and had flocks and herds and tents. Now the land was not able to support both of them. They couldn't live together, for their possessions were so great. And there was strife between the herdsmen of Abrams livestock and the herdsman's of Lot livestock. So something had to be done about this strike between the estate of Abram and. And Lot. Because they could not continue a conflict like this before. Before the unbelieving inhabitants of Canaan. Therefore, when the Canaanites and the parasites saw the herdsmans of Abram and Lots fighting, they must have thought, you know, see, they're just like we are. They say that they worship another God. A God, they say that is true God. But I see they argue just as we do. You know, many people would never listen to God fearing people if their actions contradict their beliefs. But there was a significant difference between the riches of Abram and the riches of Lot. Abram had great possession, but his wealth did not possess him. Lot had possessed him. Lost wealth possessed him. So Abram said to that. Please let there be no strife between you and me. And between my herdsman and your herdsman. But we be brothers. Please separate from me. If you take the left, then I'll go to the right. Or if you go to the right, then I'll go to the left. Is not the whole land before you? Since Abram was older and God's promise, promises gave all the land to him and not Lot. He did not yield to Lot out of weaknesses, but out of love and trust in God. A few acres of grazing land didn't seem worth fighting for. In the book of Philippians, chapter 2, verse 4. Let each of you look out not only for his interest, but also for the interests of others. If you go to the right, then I would go to the left. Right or left? Abram knew he could trust God. He had learned God would provide for him in his needs. And he did not have to worry about being too generous. Abra knew whatever Lot chose, God will make sure Abram prospered. And Lot lifted his eyes and saw all the plains of Jordan. That it was well watered everywhere. Before the. Before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. And that's when Lot he. Lot then choose. And they separated from each other. Abram dwelt in the land of Cave Canaan. Lot dwelt in the cities of the plain and pitched his tent even as far as Sodom. But the men of Sodom were exceedingly wicked and sinful against the Lord. Lot made his charge purely based on what he could see with his eyes. He cared only for the material abundance of land and was not concerned for how it might spiritually impact him and his family. Lot Abram walked by faith. Lot only walked by sight. At this point, Lot became a leader of the sinful place, valuing only the things that because that he could be that could be seen of interest to lots of temporarily wealth. Lot problem thought. Lot probably thought I could serve God as well as in Sodom, as well as anyplace else. They probably need a witness there. However, Lot deceived himself, as many systems have done. It is common to trust a deceitful heart, but he would eventually lose everything possessed when Sodom was judged. In the Book of Jeremiah, chapter 17, verse 9. The heart is wicked. Who can know it? In the end, he saw he who sought this world lost it. And he who was willing to give up anything for the honor of God expounded in the Book of Matthew, chapter 16, verse 25. For who so for whosoever will save his life shall lose it. And whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find wasn't last choice that he led his heart astray. His heart was already straight. And this was demonstrated by his choice. So God promised the land to Abram and to his descendants forever. And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had departed and separated from him, lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are northward and southward. Excuse me. Okay. Yeah. What was I. Okay. It says it was last choice that he led his heart astray. Not. Not Abram's trust. So God also wanted to remind Abram that even though Abram had been generous enough to grant some of the land to his nephew Lot, God still still promised the land to Abraham. And I will make your descendants as the dust of the earth. So. So that if a man could number the dust of the earth, then your descendants also could be numbered. This was remarkable promise to a childless man in his 70s or 80s. So yet Abraham knew to walk by faith and not by sight.
