Welcome back to another episode of the Bryce Cover Podcast. I'm Bryce, and today we are on Proverbs 10 of 31 chapters. This month we're breaking down the whole book of Proverbs, which means if you listen, watch, follow along, read, you will have read the whole book of Proverbs and get a brief understanding of the message. Solomon's preaching here in Proverbs 10. If we could create a thesis statement of Proverbs 10, it's kind of hard to do it with Proverbs 10 because it's just a collection of wisdom from Solomon. So we're going to read Proverbs and break it down. Verse one, the Proverbs of Solomon. A wise son makes a glad father, but a foolish son is a sorrow to his mother. Our wisdom and folly affect more than just ourselves. Wisdom benefits more than just the individual, right? But folly grieves more than just the individual. So we have to be careful. You see, oftentimes we make folly decisions out of a place of selfishness. Of me. This benefits me. This benefits me, but it actually hurts more people than ourselves. It grieves more people than the individual. But when we follow the wisdom of God, it benefits more than just me, right? When I love my neighbor as myself, I don't just get to experience more of the heart of the Father towards me, but the person on the receiving end gets to experience the heart of the Father. Does that make sense? Verse 2, Treasures gained by wickedness do not profit, but righteousness delivers from death. This is similar to the parable of the rich fool Jesus spoke of in Luke. I believe it's Luke 18, where the man was rich in everything towards God. And he goes, hey, Jesus, how do I enter the kingdom of heaven? And Jesus says, well, you love the Lord your God with your heart, soul, mind, and shame this. And he's like, I do it. And he goes, okay, well then sell Everything you have and then follow me. And the rich man, it says, became sad because he loved his more money more than he loved Jesus. And the Bible tells us that it's not impossible for the rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. It's just hard. So being right with God is a benefit that money actually can't buy us. You can't purchase your way into heaven, you can't purchase the Holy Spirit. We see that in the Book of Acts. But your heart of sincerity actually draws you closer in intimacy to God. Verse 3. The Lord does not let the righteous go hungry, but he thwarts the craving of a wicked. Again, this is another blessing that money can't buy. To be righteous and inherit eternal life is to have desire fulfilled in your Life, right? Verses 4 and 5. A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich. He who gathers in the summer is a prudent son, but he who sleeps in the harvest is a son who brings shame. This reminds me of a proverb a few chapters ago when we read about the ant, the discipline of the ant, the hard working nature of the ant. To look at the ant and learn its hard working nature and discipline. Verses 6 and 7. Blessings are on the head of the righteous, but the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. Violence. This is an indirect connection to Deuteronomy 27 and 28 in the mosaic Covenant where God actually directly promised to bless obedience and curse disobedience. So Solomon is making a direct correlation to Deuteronomy chapters 27, 28, verse 7. The memory of the righteous is a blessing, but the name of the wicked will rot. Hebrews 11 correlation here. So we have a correlation, right in verse seven. I mean in verse six, the Deuteronomy 27 and 28. But now in Hebrews 11 we, we have the author of Hebrews who makes a correlation here. Because Hebrews 11 is an example of the heroes of the faith. Blessed memories. The memory of the righteous is a blessing. These Heroes in Hebrews 11 are blessed and remembered. Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and who else? Rahab the prostitute. How are they justified by faith? How do we know that? Through Hebrews and Romans, chapter 4, verses 8 and 9. The wise of heart will receive commandments, but a babbling fool will come to to ruin. Wisdom gives the humility necessary to be instructed and to receive commands from the rightful authority of God. Because when we cling to the wisdom of God, we understand, oh shoot, your way is better than my way. And because we have the wisdom it gives us the humility necessary. The humility we need to humble ourselves and continue to bend our knee to the power of God. Verse 9. Whoever walks in integrity walks securely. But he who makes his way crooked will be found out. The man or woman who lives with nothing to hide can walk in integrity. We gotta live in the light, guys. Because when we don't live in the light, we give the devil the license to use that guilt and shame against us. And then we walk around as if everyone knows all the mistakes we've made. But if we live in the light, right, the man or woman who lives in the light and has nothing to hide will walk in integrity. Verses 10 through 13. Whoever winks the eye, causes trouble, and a babbling fool will come to ruin. The mouth of the righteous is a fountain of life. For the mouth of the wicked conceals violence. There's life or death in the tongue. Hatred stirs up strife, but love covers all offenses. On the lips of him who has understanding, wisdom is found, but a rod is for the back of him who lacks sense. Verse 14. The wise lay up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings ruin near. A rich man's wealth is his strong city. The poverty of the poor is their ruin. The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked to sin. Now I want to. I want to hone on that. Verse 16. The wage of the righteous leads to life, the gain of the wicked. Sin. Labor is life giving. Okay? Labor is life giving. So our calling is what? To co labor with God. God has a mission, to see people know his heart and draw people to intimacy to him. And one way we can collaborate with him is walking out the Great Commission. So this is something that we must do. Verse 17. Whoever heeds instruction is on the path to life. But he who rejects reproof leads others astray. Instruction isn't only gained, but needs to be kept. Meaning, you don't just hear instruction, you actually hear it. Apply it right on the tablet of your heart and walk this thing out. The one who conceals hatred has lying lips. And whoever utters slander is a fool when words are many. Verse 19. Transgression is not lacking, but whoever restrains his lips is prudent. Many people, for a lot of people, the more they talk, the more they lie in sin. So he's saying, hold back your tongue. There's so much more potential to sin when people are talking than when people are listening. Because they got to back up their words. Sometimes there's a whole lot more times people are more willing to Sin and fall to sin when they're doing a lot more of this than actually living it out. So he's saying, look, be careful with what you say. Be careful with your tongue. Verse 20 through 22. The tongue of the righteous is choice silver. The heart of the wicked is of little worth. The lips of the righteous feed many, but fools die for lack of sense. The blessing of the Lord makes rich and he adds no sorrow to it. To receive riches from God means to be blessed. And that's not just money, financially, monetary riches, okay? To have riches from God means it comes without the sorrow that we can gain sometimes when the. When we do things dishonestly, right? To have riches without sorrow that comes with them is even greater than the blessing. The fact that you can get riches and blessings from God and don't have to carry guilt and shame and sorrow by the way you receive them. You received riches and blessings from God with honesty, sincerity and intimacy. You don't have to carry sorrow and shame for that. Verse 23. Doing wrong is like a joke to a fool, but wisdom is pleasure to a man of understanding. Did you guys just hear? What? What? Solomon, Israel I mean, how crazy is that? So many people excuse bad behavior and saying, oh, I was just joking. I was just joking. That's crazy. What the wicked dreads will come upon him, but the desire of the righteous will be granted. When the tempest passes, the wicked is no more, but the righteous is established forever. Like vinegar to the teeth and smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to those who sin them. Verse 27. The fear of the Lord prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short. Sinful habits, guilt and ungodly anxiety will actually take years from your life. How hard is it to live a life of stress, anxiety and guilt and shame and sin? It slowly kills you. But a life lived for the Lord is actually. The American dream is a life full of light. Verse 28. The hope of the righteous brings joy, but the expectation of the wicked will perish. The way of the Lord is a stronghold to the blameless, but destruction to evildoers. The righteous will never be removed, but the wicked will not dwell in the land. God's righteous children have a wonderful future that's actually secure. When you live a life submitted to Christ, you have satisfaction, significance and security because he doesn't change his mind about you. His Word doesn't change, and your salvation is secure. Verses 31 and 32 to close this out. The mouth of the righteous brings forth wisdom, but the perverse tongue will be cut off. The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable but the mouth of the wicked what is perverse. God's righteous children have a sense of discernment and what to say and when to say it. You have self control and leading of the Holy Spirit to say what should I say? When do I say it, how do I say it? God leads you and maybe more conversations and confrontations and conflicts actually go smoother than when you rush into things. That's my biggest issue is I like to rush into things. I get this urgency but that's not always from God. This is so guys, I pray that Proverbs 10 was a blessing today and I'll see you guys tomorrow for Proverbs chapter 11.
