Hey y', all. I'm Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer winning producer and reporter. But one of the worst things that could happen as a journalist happened to me and it nearly broke me. And it's all told in my podcast. Death and Deceit. An Alliance. This was a story from a few years ago. A real time investigation I did with private investigators in 2021. Back then we were looking into the brutal murder of a young woman.

The murder of a mother of five in her own home stunned the small town of Alliance, Ohio. 26 year old Yvonne Lane, a beautiful, vivacious woman found in a pool of her own blood.
Maggie Freeling (0:41)
Her case was solved quickly by a confession.
Narrator/Investigator (0:45)
They chained him to the wall and they told him that they wanted him to confess.
Maggie Freeling (0:49)
And I was sure the police got the wrong people.
Narrator/Investigator (0:53)
This case has absolutely consumed just about everyone who has touched it. The case is haunte Haunting. I, I, it's haunting.

But as I dug, I was not ready for what I found.
Narrator/Investigator (1:05)
If you slit her throat right here, there would be blood. More blood on that, on that, yeah, on that sofa. I mean it's just on the arm really.
Maggie Freeling (1:15)
And that's what broke me. Were my instincts totally off? Like I'm just like, I don't know, I feel like, I don't, like I feel like I got emotional. I don't know, I'd feel really.
Narrator/Investigator (1:33)
Confused.
Maggie Freeling (1:35)
Or was there something actually wrong with this case?
Narrator/Investigator (1:40)
You guys have got to understand what's at this point. My God. I had eight or nine names of officers who were potential sexual partners.
Maggie Freeling (1:49)
She had so many secrets.
Narrator/Investigator (1:51)
This case has a cemetery. Cemetery, sideaches, sex trade.
