Hey guys. Welcome back to another episode of the Candy Valentino Show. Thanks for tuning in with me today. In today's episode, I want to talk about something that I believe everyone has on their mind, regardless if you're in business or not. And that's success. Success in general, in life, but not the kind that you measure with dollar signs. Look, we all know that financial success and money matters. It gives us opportunities. It gives us options. It can buy our freedom. But let's be honest, it is not the only reason that we show up to work, start a business, or lead a team. And in fact, studies show that many financial incentives like bonuses and promotions only account for about 9% of our overall motivation. So what is really driving success today? I want to break down five principles for success that have nothing to do with money, but everything to do with building a better company, building a better team, having more meaningful relationships, and even work. So let's jump into it. Number one, seems like a simple one, but I can't tell you how often it is missed or forgotten. Treat people well. Treat people well. And I mean your employees, your friends, your customers, the people that you interact with that you don't even know. You cannot build a great business, a great family, a great network all on your own. In 2022, there was a survey done. I was shocked to find this out. 82% of workers said that they would consider leaving just because their manager doesn't treat them well. That's huge. People don't leave companies. They leave leadership. They leave bad leadership. They leave not being treated well. And on the other side, the customer side, the numbers are telling us the same. 70% of customers will stop doing business with a brand after just two bad experiences. And 25% of them will stop doing business with a brand after only one. So whether you are leading a team or running a Business, or working inside of a company with other people, or running your family and having friends and network in your life. Life, your success really hinges on how we treat people. Having respect, empathy and communication isn't just some nice to have. It's truly a strategy to be successful in all areas of your life. And that brings us to number two, prioritize honesty. Look, without honesty, companies lose their moral compass. And we have seen it over and over again and it leads to serious consequences. I mean, just look at the complete disasters like Enron. And if you're not, if you haven't been in business for a long time or you're much younger than I am, you may not know about it. You can Google it or go on chatgpt. But Enron was a huge scandal, a massive accounting scandal that rocked the world. It literally corrupted and bankrupt a huge energy company called Enron Corporation. It was one of the largest energy companies in the world. But they used deceptive accounting practices to really hide billions of dollars in debt and inflate their earnings. The scandal led to the downfall of the accounting firm Arthur Andersen, which was one of the big five accounting firms at the time. I mean, this was a huge deal. There's also a documentary on this that you can watch all about it, but it talks about the fraud, the bankruptcy, the downfall, the dishonesty that was going on. FTX is another example. I mean, that was super recent in 2022 and the cryptocurrency exchange was just horrific. I mean, it suddenly collapsed, which not only shocked the market, but it made people lose millions of dollars. There was so many people caught up in that scandal. And so it just goes to show these, these large corporations that are not built on solid honest principle principles really run the risk of collapsing as leaders. Our example really sets the tone. Now we're talking about huge companies that collapse, but there are so many others that fail because of lack of honesty, authenticity and transparency. And I see this so much in the online space that it is scary and it's not even shocking anymore. So many people are building funds for you to invest in and really all they're doing is funding their lifestyle to look rich and stay broke and make you broke with them. There's a lot of flashy marketing. There's so many things going on that are levels of fraud, but it's all hidden behind the glitz and the glam. When you operate with integrity, it's a lot quieter, but your team is also more likely to follow suit. It creates a culture where people trust each other. People Speak up. When something's going wrong, people do the right thing, even when it's not popular, even when no one is watching. Honesty isn't some value that's nice to have. It is really a competitive edge. Your team, your employees, your coworkers, your customers, they will feel the difference. Your when you own up to mistakes, when you're honest about what it is that you're doing, it may not be the sexy thing in the short term, but it will always win long term. And that brings us to number three, Celebrate uniqueness. Now, this might seem kind of strange, but it's a really important one because we all bring different life experiences, different talents, different perspectives to the table. And far too often, companies or teams unintentionally, or maybe intentionally will stifle people in the favor of fitting in. They, they won't praise the, the alternate viewpoint that somebody has, and instead people are pressured to conform. And when you conform, when you try to just continually speak in an echo chamber, growth dies, innovation dies. Employees, your team will disengage. And those best ideas that could be bottled up into some coworker or team member might never actually see the light of day. If you want to unleash creativity and really retain high quality talent, make your space for people on your team, your employees, to be themselves. This applies to your kid, your spouse, your relationships. Listen when other people speak. We will never learn in an echo chamber. I don't know what it is about certain generations that just feel like they can't share their ideas because other people get so outraged. And on the flip side, I don't know what it is about some cultures and people, people that makes it seem like we can't share ideas. Like, that's when you grow, that's when you evolve. If everybody in your life, in your business, or on your team are yes, people, and nobody is challenging the decision from a kind place, from a respectful place, you will never grow to the level of revenue, the level of leader that you were created to be. It is really important to celebrate uniqueness, celebrate alternate viewpoints, have difficult conversations so that everyone at the table is learning and growing together.
