Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly. I was talking to a representative and I'm like respectfully taking back to the computer because you honestly have no idea what I'm saying. I'll take my chance with AI at this point.
Liz
And Liz, some man just commented. Why are two middle aged women doing this and are we middle aged? Because I feel like we are young, young, young, wild and free. Your mom. Time off.
Kelly
Start now.
Liz
Welcome back to the carpal podcast with Kelly and Liz.
Kelly
So my microphone stand broke. So, so I'm holding the microphone.
Liz
Wow, this is going to be a long 45 minutes for you, do you think?
Kelly
Yeah, I think I can rest it. When, when, when, when I'm talking. What does, what does Taylor Swift do? Like, I can hold the mic. This is my craft.
Liz
Okay, perfect. Well, perfect.
Kelly
Well, I think you could probably fix it. I just don't. It's just not very intuitive.
Liz
No, they never are.
Kelly
They never.
Liz
Podcasting can be so hard sometimes.
Kelly
I'm really proud of us because I know we're going down to one episode and people have really, like, really mixed reviews about it, but it's. I'm really proud of us that we've come on here consistently twice a week for two years.
Liz
Yeah, crazy.
Kelly
It's kind of crazy. And haven't ran out of things to talk about. And it's also hard because, like, we're so much funnier. Even like off the podcast, you know, we'll be talking.
Liz
I'm like, wow, I wish this was recorded.
Kelly
But unfortunately there's just too many haters in the world. And like, what we're saying is so funny and then just jest. Yeah, but people just take things, People just take things such the wrong way sometimes. You know what I mean?
Liz
It's the wrong way. I know. You can't just be funny anymore. Sometimes you really can't.
Kelly
But whatever here nor there. But mainly it's just like if you guys could hear us offline, like, we're even funnier.
Liz
At least we think we are.
Kelly
Well, what I think half of us wouldn't. Half of us wouldn't. Like, for some people it would just be like that, the final straw, you know?
Liz
Yeah, totally. And then we can never come back on, so.
Kelly
No, but it's just so interesting like having so many different platforms because I think we're very good at just knowing like what's going to land well on what platform. And what is fun about podcasting is like you don't always get like the direct feedback that you do on Instagram. So you can like say things and it's like you don't see the feedback come across your desk as much as like, I see it on my Instagram stories, you know, or like, well, yeah, my YouTube comments. Heaven forbid, you know?
Liz
Heaven forbid. Well, yeah. And I mean, I don't go on Reddit anymore, but I'm sure that there's people saying things on Reddit that I, I, I, I won't, I won't look at. But you know what, we actually just posted a video of us dancing in the dealership doing like our fit check, and some man just commented, why are two middle aged women doing this? And are we middle aged? Because I feel like we are young, young, young, wild and free.
Kelly
That is the rudest comment I've ever received.
Liz
Okay, so here's the thing. He said, what's the purpose of two middle aged women doing this? Which, okay. And then also I clicked on his profile, obviously. And I mean, I'm concerned that this man wants to see young girls do it. That's the concerning thing.
Kelly
That's the concerning thing. So, so I just did a quick Google search. Definition of what is middle age? Do you want to guess the range?
Liz
Middle aged.
Kelly
To me, 20 year range.
Liz
40 to 40 to. Well, I guess 20 year range, probably 35 to 55.
Kelly
No, 45 to 65.
Liz
Okay, well, 65 doesn't feel like 60. Doesn't feel middle aged.
Kelly
No, because no one's living to like 130.
Liz
That's craz crazy.
Kelly
Middle aged, I think. But like middle aged feels like 50.
Liz
Yeah, yeah. And like I almost like commented back. I was like, what are you talking about? I'm 30 years old. But then I'm like, is that middle aged? I don't know.
Kelly
Is that middle aged?
Liz
Don't know. Rude.
Kelly
Well, I'm sorry, I'm like kind of a little distracted because I am just realizing that I never placed an order for a skirt that I need for the Kentucky Derby.
Liz
You didn't order it, Elizabeth.
Kelly
I literally, I looked at my email and then I finally, I texted Matni, my virtual assistant, because she manages my email inbox. I'm like, matni, find this order confirmation. And she's like, you never ordered it? It says like, ready to check out.
Liz
Question mark, Kelly, where from?
Kelly
Something called far fetched.
Liz
Oh, okay. So Kelly has been saying for days. She's like, I'm so concerned about my derby look because I ordered this skirt and it hasn't come in.
Kelly
Like, it's, it's like, it's like a, it's like a English. English brand. Like, it's not good.
Liz
You need to over make this.
Kelly
I am so, like, sickened by these. By this. Matt, he's calling me. I'm sorry. This is a fashion emergency. Okay.
Liz
What did Matney say?
Kelly
Matny said there's one left, and If I pay $20 to ship this skirt, which, like, I have to get the skirt because I already bought the hat and the shirt to with the skirt, it's like I'm too far. She said, It's $20. It'll get here between the 29th and the 1st. And we leave on the 1st. And she goes, do you want to risk it? And I said, yeah.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Oh, my gosh. It's so much pressure and, like, it's just. I. So I did a rent the Runway flops. I got one good one out of five flops. I have some other ones that I like, but then it's like, you need to effing fascinator or a hat. Yeah.
Liz
So you have to order a fat. Like, you have to order the fascinator or the hat, which, like, who even knows how that's gonna look? And I don't know how to match a hat to an outfit.
Kelly
I don't know how to match a hat to an outfit. So I have a. I have a Kelly green hat because, like, that was my derby look to go match the skirt. So I have the hat in. So I have the hat. And the hat's darling, but, like, there's not a Kelly green thing. I'm not a. I tried not to do caramel blue, and that's just my fault, because if I just would have done blue, I could have mixed and matched, but I was like, no, I'm gonna do a green. Shut up. Stupid idea.
Liz
Here's. Here is the good news. The good news is we can leave later in the afternoon on the 1st.
Kelly
But what if it doesn't fit? Or, like, what if something goes. No, I know.
Liz
Like, there's. There's so much. There's truly so much that could go wrong. You need to have a backup. The. But we are driving. We can bring every. I did around the Runway. Order mostly flops. One good one. I think it's gonna be the one I'm gonna wear. I mean, we have to bring everything we have. We have to load the car up with options.
Kelly
No. And I have thousands of dollars. Not thousands. Probably a thousand dollars worth of stuff that I'm, like, returning. Like, I'm not keeping it all, but, like. And this is what they've done to us because I should be able to pop into a Dillard's and get a killer outfit. But they don't do that anymore. There's nothing in store anymore.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So what's a girl to do? I have to order online from England.
Liz
What's a girl to do?
Kelly
And there's just so much pressure because this is not. This isn't our typical run of the mill event. Like, I even felt like some nice dresses that we have, like, aren't nice enough. Like, you can't wear a Hill house nap dress.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
I don't.
Liz
I don't know what you're supposed to do. And it's also very much like a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to do this. And so, like, I don't want to screw it up. And I'm like, looking at people on Pinterest, I'm like, that girl's cute. I'm not going to be as cute as her. Apparently I'm middle aged. Like, what am I supposed to wear?
Kelly
I don't know. But I don't think anyone wants to tune in to hear us complain about getting to go to the Kentucky Derby. And that's not what we're trying to do. But it's just, I think we all can relate to. Like, sometimes outfits are the most stressful part of an event. Of an event. And that's just like, really messed up. And it's not, it's just like, everything. Like, I just get such outfit fatigue and like, I think I pulled together, like, some decently cute outfits, but just know it's not something that comes easy to me. Like, I just watched Kathleen Post. She's an influencer. I love her. Like, she's so, so cute. She's like my age. But, like, she doesn't have kids. She's living in Miami. Like, she's thriving. Like, she's amazing. She's. She's doing everything. And she's like, help me pick an outfit for dinner. And she has three options.
Liz
Yeah, three options that I would kill.
Kelly
To have look like she does in any of those options. And she's like, which one's the cutest? And I'm like, oh, my gosh. Bring all three and change per course. Like, if I had. If I had. It just doesn't come easy to me, you know?
Liz
Yeah, yeah, no, it doesn't come easy to me either.
Kelly
And then the problem is, like, okay, let's say I'm just gonna buy. I'm gonna buy exactly what she has. Well, she's shorter than Me, like. Like, I can't just also buy off. I just. Things don't compute like that.
Liz
Yeah, no, totally. That's when you need to find an influencer that, like, matches your body type and, like, height and stuff.
Kelly
Body type, but also, like, aesthetic sometimes. And what is my style? That's the other million dollar question.
Liz
I don't know. Beats me.
Kelly
But some days I do think I kind of. I kind of pull it off. And I want to talk about our new thing that we're doing, which is themed fit checks, which I know is probably, like, on the surface. And, like, if you told it to, like, someone out of context, you'd be like, that sounds kind of stupid. But the point is we're having fun, and we're just girls who want to have. Girls just want to have fun. Like, this is just a fun way to mix up our week. Like, sorry, it's an activity. Anyway. I think everyone should just maybe like. Like, try to, like, dress with us in theme.
Liz
Yeah. So Kelly and I, we've been going to the dealerships and we're doing these fit checks and, like, actually sometimes randomly, we're very coordinated. And we were like, we should just have a theme to a be coordinated in our fit checks and be like, stretch our imagination and stretch our closet and stretch what we would normally wear. Like, I'm not going out and buying something new for these fit checks. But we just did sad beige. And so we both wore, like, beige and white. And it's not an outfit I would have put together. And that's kind of like an easy one. But I think we're gonna do other random ones. Like, we're gonna do different colors and florals and just literally could be anything. And we'll try and create an outfit around it and. And it's fun and it's something to do.
Kelly
But I just, I. I already love the exercise because. So we chose the sad beige theme. Now, I had just gotten this cute vest from Lands End, so I was like, I really want to wear this vest. Like, this is so trendy. I see the girls wearing it. But I put. But I would have never picked, like, the rest of my outfit out. And I did something so interesting and it seems so I should be able to find out what to wear with, like, it's a beige vest. Like, it should go with anything. But of course it doesn't because that's not the way the world works. That's the way my world works. So I went to Pinterest and I said beige vest outfits, and there was this girl and she was wearing it with black pants. I'm like, I would have never thought to wear with black pants. Like, I just would have always thought jeans. But, like, it looks so fun with. It looks so different with black pants. And then she had on like. Like, if I wouldn't have gone on Pinterest, I would have worn it with jeans and sneakers and like, it would have been okay.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But instead she had it on with these like, espadrilles. And I'm like, well, I have Rothy's that I haven't worn in five ever.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So she had black pants, like tan espadrilles, which I just happened to have in the vest. And I'm like, so I would have never worn my Rothy espadrilles. Is that what they're called?
Liz
The. Yeah, those aren't. Those aren't espadrilles, though.
Kelly
What are these called?
Liz
I don't know. But espadrilles are the ones that have like the. Like. It's not straw, but what is it? It's wicker. Looks like kind of like rope maybe.
Kelly
Anyway, I wore black pants, which I got those out of the closet, which felt good. You know, black pants in April isn't really a thing that I would typically do. So that was fun for them. And I tried a new shoe, and now I've worn these shoes. Now I'm wearing my Rothy espadrilles again today.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
Consider me stretched.
Liz
Consider you stretched. I like it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Can I talk about something so random but so kind of scary? I guess my sister in law just told me about this because it happened in their. In their town. I mean, they live like 15 minutes from me, but it happened in their little community. There was an AI scam and we have to be like so careful. And I actually don't even know how you would avoid this, but someone called this girl in this town and was like, sorry, this is. This is scary. But I. I think it's important to say they're like, I have your daughter. And they could, like hear her daughter go to the ATM, get $5,000. I'm watching you on a camera, so if you put your phone down, you know I'm gonna do bad things. So she went to the ATM, she pulled out $5,000 and she like did it. And it was a scam. They never had her daughter. Yeah.
Kelly
So I do know how to avoid this. Well, I don't know how to avoid it in. In the full capacity, but this is a conversation that I've talked to Tyler about because I think especially like my voice, like someone could easily copy my voice. My voice.
Liz
That's what I'm saying. Like it's all over the Internet for two years. Yeah.
Kelly
So I was so dramatic. I did this years ago. I was so dramatic though. And I took Tyler to. We were in the woods, like there was not a camera around and I said, listen, I'm going to give you a word and this is our code word. And you do not do anything unless I say my voice says this code word. And it is the most random word in the world. But it's like say what's the code word? What's the code word? I won't do it unless she tells me the code word. Okay, then you know it's really me.
Liz
No, I know. And I, and I, and I think that we've all heard the code word and stuff. I'm just trying to think of this actually happened to me and I was like, okay, put my, my kid on the phone, let me hear them say the code. Where they're like, no, not gonna do that. Go get me $5,000.
Kelly
Yeah, I don't know. I would say it's more likely a. I would say like, I don't know. I don't know.
Liz
I know. I don't know either. And I was like talking to my sister in laws about it and they're like, I mean I would just go lose $5,000 to risk.
Kelly
But then where they take the cash.
Liz
No, I don't know. I, I don't know. I don't know all of the ins and outs, but it's just like so scary. And I do think like the code word is good to have because then like if you do get a chance to talk to them like say the code word. But it's just, I don't know, it's. It's scary. The scams are getting better.
Kelly
Yeah, they are. They are getting better. It's just. Yeah, I think we'll be okay. I mean, I mean that, that, that is very scary. But I think they'll set a process in place. We all got smarter the last time. You know, now we have so many scam. I just think will always get smarter.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And for all AI can be used for bad. Like AI can also be used for good.
Liz
I also saw this thing about AI and it was like people are being polite to AI. It's costing the AI companies like so much money because it's more energy. It like energy. Yeah. So if like you talk to the AI and then you say thank you. Like the A then has to like compute that. Thank you. And it's like it's costing the AI companies.
Kelly
Yeah. I don't know. That sounds like they're across to bear. Like, I don't know.
Liz
Totally sounds like they're across to bear.
Kelly
But I think we need.
Liz
I will always be polite to the AI just in case.
Kelly
Well, because then we, as soon as we're stop. Stop being nice to AI, we stop being nice to other people. Like, I'm very kind to my A. I don't. My Alexa. I'm very kind to her even when she just literally misses the mark. Now you know who I'm so mean to?
Liz
Who?
Kelly
When you have to call like the pharmacy and it's like, how can I help? It's like talk to a representative. I know, but honestly, I have had. I've been given the run around with something. We're trying to. Whatever. It's like very personal medical. So I'm not going to go into details, but I'm trying to get something, a prescription and it is like insurance denied. Can't apply for this, can't apply for that. Where I literally was like, I was talking to representative and I'm like, respectfully, take me back to the computer because you honestly have no idea what I'm saying. I. I'll take my chance with AI at this point.
Liz
Wow.
Kelly
Yeah, it was wild. I mean, I don't need to go into the health care system in America. But like, it's just so like. Because I'm getting like a denial letter and like no one knows why. And I feel bad because it's like they don't know why. So it's like, who denied it?
Liz
Yeah, just like wild. Wild times. It's wild. Yeah. Anytime, like I have to get sassy to someone on the phone, it never goes well. And then I want to cry. And so I just put Maddie on the case. And Maddie is so effective.
Kelly
Maddie. I'm about to have Maddie call for me. He might need to do it because I'm also just not. It's so hard because I start the day like, I start the first call, like so friendly. Like, like, hi, Helen. Thank you so much. Here's what I'm trying to accomplish. And then she transfers me and then I'm like, hi, Tariq. Like, thank you so much. Here's what I'm trying to do. And then I think, okay, listen up, Sarah.
Liz
Hers.
Kelly
And I freaking talked to you about this. I'm not explaining myself again.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
And I went in with Such good intentions. And now I have. Now I have. Now I'm mad.
Liz
No, dude. Literally, one time I ordered from. I'm going to. I'm going to slander this company because they piss me off so bad. I ordered from blinds dot com. Blinds freaking dotcom. And I order my blinds, and they're like, hey, your blinds came in. Which they did. Now schedule your. Your free installation because I paid for the. You know, I paid for it to do the installation or $50 installation, whatever. So I pay for them. The guy comes out, he does it, literally. And he's like, you don't have all your blinds. I'm like, oh, that's so weird. And he's like, when they come in, call the company and I'll come back out. I'm like, okay, great. Literally, the next day, the blinds come in. So then I call him, like, hey, blinds dot com. Like, my installer told me to call you guys back. My blinds just came in. And she's like, oh, we can't. We can't. You'll have to pay again. We can't do anything about that. And I'm like, no, no, no. Like, you don't understand. Like, the blinds came in separately. And she was, well, what we do is we ask for people to wait for all of their blinds to come in. And I said, no. First of all, no one asked me anything. No one asked me to wait for all my blinds to come in. You guys told me my blinds came in and to book an appointment. And I followed your instructions. I can't tell how many blinds are in these eight boxes. Like, I'm getting. I got a bunch of blinds. Like, I don't know how many blinds come in.
Kelly
I'm livid.
Liz
She goes, unfortunately, there's nothing we can do because we. We ask people to wait for all their blinds come. I'm like, you never asked me.
Kelly
You never asked me that.
Liz
No one asked me to do that. You told me you. I got an email. I'm just following instructions. So I'm livid. She's like, there's nothing I can do. I was like, all right, well, your day is about to be ruined. And I text Maddie and I text him all the information. I'm like, you need to call blinds.com. literally, Maddie, text me 30 minutes later, installers coming out free of charge. And I'm like, what did you say?
Kelly
Here's the thing. I. Maddie is such a Karen, but in a way where it's like, sometimes you just have to be Karen's. Get a bad Rap. But at what point are you letting people walk all over you?
Liz
No. And Maddie. Maddie says. He's like, when I'm in the right. Of which we were in the right. He's like, I'm lethal. Like, you're not. I'm not gonna get. When I'm in the right, there is. There's no holding me back. And sometimes I'll. Sometimes I hear him on the things, and I'm like, oh, gosh, this is like, I hate this. And then other times, like, when I heard him talk, if I. I didn't. I didn't hear it. But if I would have heard him talking to this person, I would have been like, get him. Get her. Get her. Like, yes.
Kelly
Squeaky wheel gets the grease. And I. Yeah, it is just such. It's such a balance. And again, I'm delightful. To my. The first person on the phone, I'm delightful. Telling them to have a blessing.
Liz
I'm delightful.
Kelly
And then by the time I explain the story for the third time, I'm 11.
Liz
Yeah. And I. I think. I think that's how most people are.
Kelly
We're kind of getting the run around on our pool because. So, like, let me. To catch everyone up. We had a. We bought a total fixed upper house. It had a pool that hadn't been opened in years. We opened the pool, the pool shot. Basically, we have a hole in the ground. So we're like, let's get a fiberglass insert. So, like, the most effective way to do it. We got a fiberglass insert. We ordered it. It's sitting at the place. Like, we can. I drive by the place frequently. I see my pool. That's it. And they're like, we're running behind. There's two pools ahead of you. We're like, okay, sounds good. We call again, there's three pools ahead of you. I'm like, well, you said there's only two. Like, well, I know. We're running three pools behind. I'm like, so you're running three pools behind and there's two pools ahead of me?
Liz
Or they're.
Kelly
So there's six pools ahead of me.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And I'm actually not doing this. Tyler's doing this. So I told Tyler yesterday. I'm like, I think you need to be a little bit of a squeaky wheel or we're not going to be swimming by summer.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Like, I'm trying to schedule some lessons. And like.
Liz
Like, do you have a pool?
Kelly
And I'm like, well, I do. It's not installed, but I have one.
Liz
Yeah, that's annoying. Yeah, Squeaky real show up. I mean, I won't, I won't. I'm not effective. I cry under pressure.
Kelly
No, I know. And our parents was like, weren't that really that way either? I feel like sometimes mom would be, though, and it would, like, make us so cringe.
Liz
Yeah, I know. We're just like. We're just, like, so polite.
Kelly
I know.
Liz
We're polite to a fault.
Kelly
We're polite to a fault.
Liz
Yeah, I'm a total pushover. But anyway.
Kelly
Anyway. Here nor there.
Liz

Kelly
But anyway, speaking of pool, summer is right around the corner.
Liz
Yes.
Kelly
Which is so crazy. So I think a couple of years ago we did like, a summer bucket list, so I thought it'd be fun to go over. Like, I know we're a little early, but, like, what is your summer bucket list? Just, like, things bigger, small things you want to accomplish. I really want to write them all down. I want to hang it in my closet, and I want to, like, cross them off every all summer. And I think when you think of the terms of our bucket list, I'm not talking like a trip to the Grand Canyon. I'm saying, like, just like, really big or small specific things that you want to do this summer.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So how many do you have? How many do you want to do?
Liz
How many you have?
Kelly
I have, like, a lot, but I can. I think I have, like, five that are, like, worth talking about.
Liz
Okay, well, I'll just like, kind of see where we go. I'll let you start, though.
Kelly
Okay. So I talked about it before. I'm really though determined to do this this summer. I really want to try to jar some jalapenos I love. There's like this girl, there's this. I don't even know where my mother in law gets them from, but every summer she's like so and so, dropped off the jars of jalapenos. And I have like one jar of these homemade jalapenos and I cherish them all year because they're in my chili. They're excellent.
Liz
Sounds great.
Kelly
They're excellent. Can't be that hard. And jalapenos, like, you know, when they're in season, like, they're cheapest chips. So like, even if I mess up. So I really, really, really, really, really want to try to jar jalapeno. So if anyone has an amazing recipe, but I really need to figure out the canning process. I'm a mess. It's a total bucket list item. But it's something that, like, I just really want to accomplish this summer in one. A jar some jalapenos.
Liz
Here I am. So here for that journey. Yeah. Something that I really, really want to do is. Okay, so we're getting a nanny. We have a nanny. She's starting this week. I'm so excited about it. I have like a few different areas in the house that the kids can play in, but nothing has really ever been organized. So I really want to have like an organized, dedicated. Like, I want to get my basement, like the playroom extravaganza. Like, I want it to be fabulous, I want it to be organized. I want it to be just like, because my kids go to daycare, we're going to daycare. So, like, it didn't, you know, they were just kind of here on the weekends, in the evenings. Like, I didn't really have to have really, really good dedicated spaces, but now that they're going to be here like 100 full time and I have a nanny who will need to take them to different parts of my house to entertain them. I just really want my playroom to be a basement playroom to be perfect.
Kelly
So. Playroom.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
In line with playroom things, I think that this summer, you know, will be kind of my time to purge the baby stuff. And I. And I mean, like, purge the baby stuff. And also, like, I just think I have a lot of things that I'm. That I'm kind of ready to let go of, whether that like Libby's outgrown, but also I kind of got to figure out, like, what I'm keeping For the kids in terms of, like, the. My boy clothes, too. Like, I need to go, like, I have a box of, like, things I didn't want to give to you because they're kind of special. But, like, I don't need this entire box of baby boy clothes. So, like, what is going in their special boxes and what are we just done with? And then, like, same thing with toys. Like, we've used the same baby toys for all four kids. Like, I mean, of course, like, you know, someone will get, like, I get a few here or there, but, like, I've had a. Been a baby toys just for years, and I'm like. But then I'm trying to think, like, okay, do I want to keep those in case, like, someone else brings their baby over? And do I just, like, keep all the baby toys together? Do I, like, divide them up? Now I just kind of need to figure out, like, what I'm doing with all baby things that I need to go through. You know, anything that. I mean, Fred's in a 3T, so anything boy 3T and younger. Like, if I'm not going to save it for Libby, like, I probably need to take it to Once Upon a Child and, like, I'm just really ready to.
Liz
Wow.
Kelly
Done. So that's.
Liz
Yeah, yeah.
Kelly
That'll be like a long, like, just like, constantly, like, of course, like, decluttering. But to me, this is more like, than decluttering. It's like declutter or decluttering. Reorganizing and purging and selling really well.
Liz
That kind of brings up something that I saw in the carpal Facebook group. So I kind of bring up the comment section. Someone was talking about how much we love the JBF sale, but she did the consignment. She's like, they haven't. No one's really talked about, like, the consignment aspect of it. She was like, I made 500 doing it. And I literally just took so much stuff to Once Upon a Child. Like, stuff with tags on it that just wasn't that. It was honestly, like, one of those things where I was just, like, wanting to get rid of everything. So I was, like, throwing stuff in there, and I didn't want to hold on to it. And I got 13, and I had, like, a bin, and it was 13. I got 13, which is fine because I got it out of my life. But I want. I kind of want to consign at the JBF sale I've heard of, and.
Kelly
I think they're all over the country. So look it up.
Liz
Just.
Kelly
I know.
Liz
Friends.
Kelly
I know. Yeah. Just between friends. I just between friends. I know they're all over the country. I have also heard amazing things about selling. And I think what's so interesting about the way the JBF sale works is you can either have them price it or you can price it. So when you're shopping the sale, like, some. Some things, like, the prices are all over the place, but I think it's almost smart. Not that, like, I want people to price things higher, but I think it's almost smart because I'm pretty sure by the last day, everything's 50% off.
Liz
Oh.
Kelly
So, like, shoot your shot. For lack of better words. Like, price it at 10 bucks. And if no one buys it 10 bucks, then maybe they'll do five and.
Liz
Then take it to Once Upon a Child. Or donate it if nothing gets bought, I guess. But I'm curious. I wish I wouldn't have just dropped this thing off, because I had dropped some really good stuff off there. But I think I might try and consign at the August.
Kelly
We need to get the information. The only thing that's hanging up is that you have to provide your own hangers. And, like, that's just giving me a pit.
Liz
Doesn't give me a pet. But you probably have more clothes than I do. I just. I don't think it's. I think it's not that big of a deal. Okay, but that doesn't sound like something you like. Anyway, it's my turn. Goal I have for the summer. I want my popsicle game. I made popsicles. They turned out great. James loved them. And here's the thing. James ate about a third of it. And I'm just happy that it was just kind of berries that were gonna go bad and yogurt in there and not, you know, real popsicles that I bought from the store. So.
Kelly
See, I would feel like the opposite. I'd be, like, so pissed if I, like, made a popsicle and, like, they only ate a third of it. It's like, I made this, like, feels.
Liz
Like it feels free to me, though.
Kelly
I know. We are so. And, like, a lot of people are, like, the comments weren't divided. Like, some people are like, I totally agree with Liz. And people are like, I totally agree with Kelly. Like, a popsicle, Like, I'll just get the outshine real fruit bars, and I'll move on with my life.
Liz
I know. I don't know.
Kelly
I don't know what that is.
Liz
Don't know.
Kelly
But I'm excited to Come over and have one of your homemade popsicles.
Liz
Yeah. Though my first round turned out really good.
Kelly
Do you remember we were so obsessed with popsicles over the summer? Do you remember our popsicle rule when we were growing up? How many popsicles we were allowed to have in a day?
Liz
No.
Kelly
You don't remember this?
Liz
No.
Kelly
We were allowed three popsicles a day.
Liz
Three popsicles a day. And while we direction.
Kelly
That was a lot. That's a lot.
Liz
A lot of popsicles in a day.
Kelly
We were home all summer with mom.
Liz
So if we have one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, you know, the days are long. Days are long.
Kelly
It's light till 8. You know, you wake up at 6, it's. You go to bed at 8, it's light the whole time.
Liz
You want a popsicle Is good any time of day.
Kelly
Popsicle, never. A popsicle is always good.
Liz
A popsicle is always good.
Kelly
I would. I need to scan. I just haven't bought. You know, popsicles to me are just such a summer thing. Like, who's buying popsicles in the winter? That feels crazy. There's just so many options of things these days. Like, I went to Target the other day and I wanted to see what was new in the canned cocktail space. Not the seltzers, but the canned cocktails. Because I had one somewhere and it was like a cocktail in a can. And there are so many brands, so many cans. It's such, like, everything. There's just so many options. There's so many things to try. Such an exciting time to be alive.
Liz
Really. It is. We've really been out of our cocktail phase due to being pregnant for the last two years. But yeah, I'd be curious to just know how far we've come.
Kelly
Well, there was a gimlet. Oh, there was a canned gimlet in a canned paloma.
Liz
Wow.
Kelly
So it just feels like. And there was a striped can. It was stunning.
Liz
Okay. Fab.
Kelly
Now what hurts is it's like 15 for a four pack. Yeah, but it's a cocktail, it's not a seltzer. Are we just all in agreements? We're all just like, a little burnt out on seltzers.
Liz
I am also, like, I don't like drinking as much as I used to. Oh, totally.
Kelly
We're middle aged.
Liz
Because we're middle aged. And also, like, parenting and drinking is not a good time. It's like, I have to wake up early, so I don't want to feel crummy the next day. Parenting is hard. I have to be on my A game. Like, I Cannot. I have to be on my A game. I just don't like it. And so it's. And it's just, like, the calories of it all. So I like. It takes a lot for me to, like, it has to be. The vibes have to be set, and the drink has to be right. And honestly, a white claw. Not worth it for me.
Kelly
Well, that kind of brings me to my next bucket list item of just, like, setting vibes. And I really need to set. I want to really work on, like, an outdoor space for me to sit and watch the kids this summer.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And I mean, like, I. Like, I love my. And I'm not even looking for, like, great esthetics. Like, I'm looking for pure functionality, and I just want people to be sat all summer watching my kids play. So I've got a rocking lawn chair. Best thing I ever bought, actually, was a gift. Best thing I ever received. Like, I love my rocking lawn chair, but, like, I need to find the table, and then if I'm going to set it up somewhere, like, I'd love a potted flower next to me or. So I want to, like, just work on, like, I'm gonna put a little bit of effort into, like, an outdoor space for me to sit that I enjoy. Or, like, if I have a mom friend over for a playdate, like, me and her can both sit in, like, my. Like, next to a potted flower with, like, a little table and comfy chairs that, like, I keep clean. Like, the chickens don't, like, poop all over it. Like, it's just. It's an elevated place to sit.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So I'm gonna. That's like a. That's, like, an early goal for me. I really just need a comfy outdoor space. I might even get, like, a fan. Like, what does a fan look like? Can you, like, plug fans in?
Liz
I'm sure, Kel, there's, like, fans that don't even need to be plugged in, which will be crazy.
Kelly
I want to do it all with you.
Liz
I need that as well. I need a good space to sit.
Kelly
I need a good outdoor space to sit. I picture me, you know, and I. I need to kind of, like, look at my yard a little bit. Like, look at the house. Because, like, where. Like, you know, where's the sun? Where do I want to be? I don't want the sun in my eyes. I want to be in the shade, but I need people to see the kids. Like, I'm gonna have to do a little diligence.
Liz
Yeah, totally.
Kelly
And I just also think I want it to feel like a little patio, and I don't. I don't even have a patio in mind. I'm just saying, even if it's just, like, a place on the side of my house in the grass, like, I just need to have a vibe.
Liz
Yeah, totally. I'm here for it. Well, kind of like a big, totally not relatable goal for my summer is, like, we're doing this huge renovation in our house, and we're going to be moving out. And I'm just, like, really, really excited for that to be done, because once that's done, I'm just been feeling like I've been living in such limbo with never actually putting things away in a organized fashion, because I just have known that this renovation was going to happen. So, like, that's a big one. Can't wait for that to be done. But in the meantime, we're going to move in with mom and dad, and they do have a pool. Unlike you, Kelly, I. My. I want to be in the water with James all the time. I want to be a fish, a water bug. Like, I want to spend a lot of time in the water this summer. It's been so hard. Like, James was too little last summer. He wasn't even one. And also, I was pregnant. Like, I'm not pregnant. I. I can move more. And, like, I just want to be water bugs. I just want to be in the water.
Kelly
I love that. Be a water bug.
Liz
Yeah, I think that's probably all that I have right now.
Kelly
Yeah, I just have one more. And mine's kind of similar, is I just want to take some, like, trips this summer and, like, really prioritize going to the lake and going to the lake for just, like, a weekend. Like, you know, I mean, we still got to work and stuff, but just want to, like, get there and just get to the lake. I'm very excited for summer.
Liz
Me, too.
Kelly
It's a summer that really feels like a summer.
Liz
You know, a summer, summer, summer, summer, summer, summer to remember.
Kelly
Well, are you ready for industry news, or do you have anything else?
Liz
Oh, I just wanted to talk about something that I just been seeing all over the Internet that I just think is hilarious, and that's like, the type C mom.
Kelly
I love type C moms. Elizabeth is the definition. I mean, I would say I identify a little bit as a type C mom, but Elizabeth is a type A capital C mom.
Liz
Okay, let me. Let me give the AI description of a type C mom, and I'm going to Tell you the most Type C mom thing I've ever done. Okay. Type C mom describes a mother who combines the meticulousness and planning of a type A mom with the relaxed, carefree approach of a type B mom. I mean, first of all, it's totally just like making homemade popsicles only to have it end up on the floor and like, you know, like your floor sticky.
Kelly
With homemade popsicles.
Liz
With homemade popsicles. No, literally. Okay. Part of my playroom planning is I want to get a. A nugget in a chunk in the basement because I love sitting on the nugget. And literally my house is trashed. I don't. Like, everything around me is chaos. And I go into Canva and I'm like, what nugget combination will work best? So I take screenshots of the different colors and I remove the background and I put them into Canva and I'm like, no. And like you, I. I literally take like every combination and to try and find the combo that I want only to just like, just absolute chaos around me.
Kelly
It's like, literally, what does it matter? Like, it's gonna be covered in toys.
Liz
Literally.
Kelly
That's so you. But I did take time with my nugget color combinations too, and I think I nailed it.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I mean, what colors are you leaning towards?
Liz
Okay, here's what I'm leaning towards. So I have a beige one. And the reason I want to get another one is because, um, we have, like, an area upstairs where Danes can play. And honestly, it's a couch for me.
Kelly
Two nuggets. Has our kids got another nugget for Christmas? Don't get me wrong. I get it. It's an expensive play couch. But like, just buy less toys and buy two nuggets. Like, it's the. It's my kids favorite toy. The nuggets. Yeah.
Liz
Yeah. So I have a beige one upstairs, but I. I'm thinking I'm going to get like a light blue nugget and a red chunk, which sounds crazy, but it's kind of like the unexpected red theory. It's colorful, it's fun. Like, red is like, really making my eyes happy lately.
Kelly
Wow.
Liz
Maybe I'll put up my Canva templates on the. The carpool Instagram and everyone can vote on the chat. That would be fun.
Kelly
I think you should. I think you should do that.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
That's.
Kelly
Elizabeth is such a Type C mom. Like, one time I was over at her house and Liz, I love you so much, but, like, her house was just destroyed and James Wanted a snack. And she's like, okay, hold on. I'm gonna make him a homemade smoothie. And I'm like, let's literally, like, you have so many dishes in your sink. Like, are you sure we shouldn't just.
Liz
Like, this is like one of those things.
Kelly
It's just like, add more dishes, like, grab him something. And I really thought I was. I feel like I don't totally identify with anybody, but I think, like, I'm kind of a type A mom, which, like, I feel like kind of gets a bad rap. But that's not fair. They all kind of get a bad rap, to be honest with you.
Liz
No, totally. Here's. Let's, let's. Because I think people just say type A and they're like, oh, you're so rigid. And there's like no room for anything else. But I actually looked it up the other day and it's not, it's not, it's not a bad thing. So type A personalities are ambitious, aggressive and competitive. Type B are late, black, flexible, impatient.
Kelly
Everyone wants to be described as like, laid back, flexible and patient. And I think I. In some things I am.
Liz
But okay, here's.
Kelly
I'm like, really having trouble.
Liz
You're driven, you're going goal entry, goal goal oriented. Often experience high levels of stress. You tend to work fast paced, you're organized, and you're focused on achieving results. Yeah, you're just, you're driven. And like, the downside is you may experience higher levels of stress because what's.
Kelly
The downside of a type B mom? Because I feel like they're always just like, I'm so type. Like typing moms are always like, I'm so type B. I'm just like a shell. Like, what's the. But what's the downside?
Liz
Because I know my potential downsides may be perceived as less focused or ambitious. Can sometimes struggle in fast paced environments.
Kelly
Totally. So I actually think sometimes type A moms are. I think sometimes if you're more type A, you actually, like, handle a lot of young kids maybe sometimes better than someone who's super type B because, like, I can handle the stress. Like, type B moms, like, not like they're more chill, but like they can't handle as much. Maybe this is just me kind of hyping myself up.
Liz
Could be. Yeah. I don't know. I don't know.
Kelly
Moms in a box.
Liz
You know, I think, I think we're probably, to a certain point, I think we're all type C because it's like everyone has certain things that they like to be done way. However, we're living with toddlers and children who just derail everything. So there's totally a level of you just have to let. Let things happen, and you pick the things that you're going to be intense about. And for me, it's making a homemade smoothie, you know, and for you, it's something else. And I don't know.
Kelly
All right, well, let's get to industry news, because we have a lot to get to, actually. We just have one story, but it's kind of a big one.
Liz
Okay.
Kelly
All right. Now it's time for industry news, where I spill the hot tea going on in the auto industry. So there was an event that we actually did get invited to, But I'm gonna be honest, I felt like a scam when I read the email.
Liz
Oh.
Kelly
So I kind of ignored it. I almost wonder if I could find it, but it's fine. I won't. And it was a new automaker that was coming to the United States called Slate, which I've never heard of Slate before Slate it. So anyway, I honestly, like, also, like, I was like, I'm not gonna, like, go to, like, this event for this. Like, that's crazy. Like, we have derby outfits pick up. Like, it just didn't seem like an event that was worth our time. And I honestly thought it was a scam. Like, who comes out with a new auto manufacturer anyway? It was legit. So silly to me. 2020, 20, 20, 20, 27. Slate Truck EV will be a very customizable EV priced under $28,000. It's the burger king of trucks. This is from car and Driver. It's affordable and lets customers have their way with a lengthy accessory list, including one that turns a pickup into an suv. This thing is wild. So the Slate trucks is a very bare bones ev. It's expected.
Liz
Pretty ugly.
Kelly
Oh, I thought it was kind of cute. It looks like an old truck.
Liz
I just. I don't like it.
Kelly
And they're just so. Deliveries are going to start at the end of 2026. But if you do the federal tax credit, the $75 tax credit, it would make it, like, less than $20,000 to get this truck. And it is bare bones.
Liz
It's bare bones.
Kelly
Like, it's just not. But then they have all these, like, customizable accessories that, like, for example, the $20,000 truck doesn't even have a second row. Like, it's just a single cabinet truck. Are you looking up?
Liz
I am. It says it's Bezos backed. Okay. Is Bezos just kind of like trying to do everything that Elon Musk is doing? Because that's what it kind of feels like.
Kelly
Wow. I didn't even think about it like that.
Liz
Well, because he did Blue Origin and it feels like Musk was doing it first and now he's like doing an EV company.
Kelly
Yeah. I don't know. But what's kind of cool is you can get. Well, I don't know if it's cool or not. Like, you can get an accessory package to turn the truck into an suv. Like, you just like pop seats back and like throw a roof on it. Like, really is diy. I'm not really looking like DIY my back seat.
Liz
No, no, no, no. I want that to be like pretty much like built into.
Kelly
I honestly think it's gonna be a flop.
Liz
The SUV is better looking than the truck. And maybe because it was the same.
Kelly
Car, it's the same.
Liz
I can understand when it has the SUV portion on it, it looks better because the truck looks unfinished.
Kelly
It's just. I think it's going to be a flop. If I had to guess. And I know that's kind of. I feel like that might be a hot take because I think they're like trying to put affordability at the foresight. But like, I just don't think a twenty thousand dollar EV is what people are looking for. A twenty thousand dollars EV that can only fit two people. Like, there's just so many other cars you could. If you only need to fit two people, there's so many other more affordable cars you could buy than like this little electric one. And I just, it just got me thinking the other day, like, where's Vinfast?
Liz
Where is in past?
Kelly
Vinfast was the belle of the ball at the New York Auto show, like three years ago when we went, like, you couldn't get into their booth. They were sponsoring all the cocktail hours, like, and now crickets. Crickets from them. They haven't come across my desk since. No, Fisker hasn't come across my desk.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Rivian's the only one who like, kind of did it. And then like, I'm like, they're kind of there.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And I think they're doing a kind of a good job. I just don't know if like. And what's so interesting, like, we're seeing all these, like, new EV automakers come out, like the Vinpass and the Viskers and the Rivians, because EVs are so easy to make. Like there's no engine like, it's a freaking battery. So, like, it's a lot easier to, like, make and assemble and source the parts to build an EV versus an internal combustion engine.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
That's interesting.
Kelly
Super interesting. I don't know. We'll see. I just don't. I like Slate. Like, I think Slate's a good name. They're saying, like, blank slate. Like, it's kind of cute.
Liz
That's kind of cute. Okay. Okay. Marketing. Yeah. Okay. So I'll be curious. I will be curious to see has the content come out from, like, the people who are invited there.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. I'll need to check it out, but.
Kelly
I just want to be clear. We. We were invited.
Liz
Okay, Good to know. Well, point for Slate.
Kelly
Point for slate for recognizing our influence in the space. Except I'm. But they. I don't think they'll mind me again because I just. I think it's going to flop. But you know what's like, prove me wrong.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I just think, like, in two years, we'll be like, remember slate?
Liz
Remember when we. Remember when they tried doing Slate?
Kelly
It just seems like a little bit of a saturated market already. And I just think, like, the EV appetite, like, has kind of gone down a little bit.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
You know?
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But I don't know for Dish the Drive through, because then I kind of got to get going. I have a dinner party I'm throwing tonight.
Liz
Oh, yeah.
Kelly
Get ready for dish the Drive Through. We share easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner.
Liz
Sure am.
Kelly
I think I already shared with the carpoolers, so I'm not gonna make it the ditch drive through, but I am having Tyler's whole family over for dinner. It's like, 20 adults, and we're having barbecue or pulled pork sheet pan nachos. But I'm doing it right with fixins. Think roasted corn. Think salsa verde. Think homemade pico de gallo. Like, I'm doing it right.
Liz
Homemade pico deo?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
You're making it.
Kelly
I bought gelapinos and tomatoes and onions. Yes, I'm making it.
Liz
Wow. Okay.
Kelly
It kind of seems, like, unnecessary, honestly. Kind of seems unnecessary because I was gonna make guacamole, but I'm sorry, how we're supposed to, like, just be expected to make dishes with avocados when they are the most temperamental food in the freaking world.
Liz
I know.
Kelly
So I'm just gonna call the Mexican restaurant in my town and be like, I need two sides of guacamole.
Liz
Perfect.
Kelly
And you know what if I run out of time. Throw the pico de guy in there too.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
But anyway, that's what we're having for dinner tonight. So I told everyone to bring their own jelly roll pan. It's always coming up jelly roll pan.
Liz
Always coming up jelly roll pan. And it's crazy that it's called a jelly roll pan when I don't think I've actually ever had a jelly roll nor even thought to make one.
Kelly
Totally. So anyway, I told everyone to bring their own jelly roll pan, and we're gonna make our own nachos, all the fixings. So I've been prepping for that. So last night, I just had to do something super easy for dinner. So I was at Costco getting stuff for the nachos, and they had their chicken Alfredo pasta bake. Picked it up 13 bucks. Had my whole family. Wow. I haven't had chicken Alfredo in forever.
Liz
It's so good.
Kelly
Such a good flavor profile. So my dish is chicken Alfredo. And, like, if you can buy the one from Costco, great. If not, it's also just, like, it's just as easy as spaghetti.
Liz
Different flavor profile.
Kelly
Different flavor profile. I don't think we're eating it enough as a society.
Liz
Yeah, well. And I think that just says, like, go to the pasta. Go to the pasta salt section and pick out something other than marinara.
Kelly
And in similar to, like, what's new with the Popsicle or can cocktail market? Like, what's new with the jarred sauce?
Liz
I had this delicious, like, lemon cream jarred sauce. It was. It's from Katie's Pizza, so I had to get it out of Durburg's. Like, you don't know what I'm talking about unless you live in St. Louis. But it was really, really good. But it just makes me think that certainly, certainly, like, Ragu is doing something fabulous or Rao's or whoever.
Kelly
Certainly.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So that's just that. That. That's my hack. But I'm going to get to getting because I've got, you know, things to do and things to make. But I'm so. We could just, like, get on. Get on the mic, talk about our summer. I'm excited for summer.
Liz
Summer, summer.
Kelly
And we'll keep up. We'll keep up with Slate. I'm going to see if she continues to. I'm not going to, like, search for Slate, because I really just believe, like, what comes across my desk will come across my desk.
Liz
Totally. Totally. I will be curious to see what Slate does with the drop in Tesla sales. Tesla's sales are, like, down like 70. Like, it's really, really crazy.
Kelly
I don't think. And we should maybe talk about that, dive into that a bit more. I don't think those slates. And this is what dad has always said. Dad is just. Our dad is a smart man. Dad always said, like, once the other manufacturers come out with an EV product as good as the Tesla, like, it will hurt Tesla because they've just been so ahead. But now, like, every brand has an electric car. So if you're kind of brand loyal, like, now you have an EV that you can go to, which you, like, normally didn't have that.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
So of course, like, I think Elon Musk is, like, now super polarizing. But I think even before, like, Tesla sales were kind of slipping because, like, BMW make makes, some people think makes a better electric car. And if you're in that. And one thing that I didn't like, I felt like Tesla. I think one thing that was really hard for Tesla was people think like they went from being a luxury brand to being a mass market brand, but, like, then still having luxury brand cars. And I just think that, I think you kind of like lose a little bit of brand identity when it's like you trying to be mass market or are you trying to be luxury? Because then, like, your luxury people don't want to drive it because then everyone's driving and now, like, like, I mean, if you live in California, like, every third car is a Tesla, you know?
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
