Your draws would drop if you knew some. I'm not going to share because privacy. But you got your draw. A draw. If you use people I DM'd with like celebrities.
Kelly
Celebrities and Liz. And then you have. Then you have a free hand. And it just like I was like, you know what they tell you? You gotta chin the bar moms. We gotta chin the bottle. Your mom. Time off starts now.
Liz
Welcome back to the carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz.
Kelly
Hey, Kyle.
Liz
Hey. How are you?
Kelly
I'm good. How are you?
Liz
Well, I didn't go to New Orleans.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Which was sad.
Kelly
I know you're really looking forward to that.
Liz
I was really looking forward to it. Tyler was so excited. Tyler. That's like Tyler's favorite thing that we go to. He. He's been one time, but like he just likes a conference and he was so excited to walk around Just like, talk to people. Like, it's Tyler's dream. It's just a place of people who want to talk.
Kelly
Yeah. Who are like begging you to come up to their booth.
Liz
And Tyler was like, I know.
Kelly
I will. I'll be the one. Just a bunch of sell me on this.
Liz
And the conference is so funny because I've been like, I've been on.
Kelly
I've.
Liz
I've honestly been going to it for several years because I actually. People don't know this about me. I actually used to work for a CRM tool, which CRM is like a customer relationships management tool within auto. So it was like what dealerships would use to keep track of their customers. So one time I went to nada as a vendor and it was my job to try to like, reel the dealers in, to try to like, show them our product. And then of course, you've come so far. Oh. You know, and it feels good. It feels good to come far also in a way, because then I gotta go. So that, like, I worked that, like, literally I'm not even an attendee. Like, I'm a worker out of at this thing. And now I go from that to like, speaking it. Speaking like, I know being like a headline speaker. It's. It's someone call it a Cinderella story.
Kelly
Some would. Most would. So. So I guess that they still had the conference, right? They didn't cancel it.
Liz
Yeah. So, like, the problem. The conference goes from Thursday to Sunday. Thursday they have their big like, woman in auto day. And that's what I was. That's what I was supposed to be speaking at. But no one could fly in Wednesday and there was no. There was like, no flight. So like, I was the. The moderator couldn't fly in and the other girl speaking couldn't fly in. So then they just canceled it.
Kelly
Sad. You'll get them next year.
Liz
I hope so. So I was like, really bummed. And then I, like, I had like, made dinner reservations. And like at 7:30, like, it was like my calendar invite would go off. Like, oop, like, sassy seafood restaurant. You know, I know that reservation and I'm like air frying chicken nuggets. I'm like, what? That sucks.
Kelly
I know. Stinks.
Liz
And also I was so excited to pick up George and Hattie from school because, you know, when we dropped him off, I'm very. I think it's very important to be honest with kids, even on time when it's hard, because I was like, hey, I'm not picking you. I just. I don't want them to be. I never want them to feel. I want them to know what to expect. So I was like, I'm not picking you up, because I am not. Mom and dad are going out of town. And they were a little. They were sad going to school, which, like, doesn't feel good to do that. But I also didn't want them to, like, whatever. I want to tell them the truth.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And I was, like, so excited to go pick them up because we obviously told Tyler's mom not to come. And Hattie cried when she saw me because she wanted to go to Grandma's. So that was fun.
Kelly
You're like, they're gonna be so excited to see me. They were so sad this morning and.
Liz
Yeah, I know.
Kelly
Immediately humbled.
Liz
I know. I, like, try, like, got my phone out to, like, film it, thinking they'd be like, mom. And he was like, where's Grandma? And I was like, okay, well, delete that one.
Kelly
Yeah. Other than that, how was your weekend?
Liz
Other than that, how was my weekend? It was loaded.
Kelly
Question. I know.
Liz
Yeah. I'm having one of those Monday mornings where I literally can't think of a single thing we did this weekend. So I would say, all in all, good, good. We.
Kelly
We had a wedding this weekend.
Liz
Fun.
Kelly
And so we had a little date night. But I wanted to. They did the. One of the most iconic things I've ever seen at a wedding. And I haven't stopped thinking about it. And I have to share. I haven't even told you yet.
Liz
No, you haven't.
Kelly
So you're planning a wedding or know someone who is. This is. Was, like, such a cool thing that they did. So, you know when you, like, walk in to the reception and everyone stands up and is cheering for you? They had T shirts that they threw into the crowd. Like, at a sports game.
Liz
You know, they, like, throw T shirts.
Kelly
And they said, like, I came to this wedding and I like, I was this, like, this lousy T shirt or something. Like, that's what the T shirt said. But it was hilarious.
Liz
Get people on their feet.
Kelly
Gets people on the feet. Who doesn't want to, you know, grab and reach up a T shirt. Get a T shirt gun. Like, I thought it was the funniest, most iconic thing because everyone's already cheering and standing up and anyway, jot that one down. I've never seen it happen.
Liz
Next time we do an auto show, I want a T shirt gun.
Kelly
Totally, totally.
Liz
What is a T shirt gun? Don't look. I'm going to Google it. What is a T Shirt gun run.
Kelly
Okay. Like, not one that you're launched. Like a, like a, average one. I'm gonna.
Liz
No, wait, wait. Like a gun. Or like when it's like the two, like the two cute cheerleaders on one side and like one's in the middle.
Kelly
Oh, oh. So that's like a slingshot.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
I don't know. I'm gonna say $60.
Liz
Okay. I'm not even being dramatic. There's so there's not a lot on Amazon a micro. Like a gun. T shirt launcher. $839. It sounds like we'll be doing the cheerleader one.
Kelly
That's in. That's disgusting. What's a slingshot run?
Liz
You 23 bucks. But you have 23 bucks. You have to have three cheerleaders to run it.
Kelly
Well, we got a lot of sisters, so.
Liz
True.
Kelly
Anyway, iconic. Good idea. Jot that one down.
Liz
Did they have a God or they were just throwing.
Kelly
No, they were throwing them. They threw like four, but it was really funny and I, I, I was gagged.
Liz
Did you get one?
Kelly
No, I didn't.
Liz
Darn.
Kelly
Darn it. I know.
Liz
During the lock. Well, anyway, Liz, we have a really exciting episode. Some would say, do we have a show for you?
Kelly
For you. Do we ever. We got things to talk about. We have drive throughs, industry news, a lot of like, kind of car mom in general housekeeping that we have to get to.
Liz
So should we just get the housekeeping out of the way?
Kelly
Sure.
Liz
Okay. So I think the biggest thing of housekeeping is like, we have a car of the year is launched. So pay attention because this is something that's not only really important to me, but I, not to be dramatic, I find it very important for the future of automotive. And I'm like being so serious when I say that. But last year we decided to do a car mom car of the year. And I like, groveled over the idea to do this for so long because I didn't want anyone to feel I just. Recently I've started to what you could call play favorites with cars because I just wanted to give like, really unbiased reviews and just like talk about the cars. But then I realized, like, the more I did the car mom is, so much of my audience is like, just looking to get the information quickly. And I don't want you to have to watch 45 tours to find out which cars I like, which cars I like for three kids. Like, I just don't think that's helpful. And I always think, like, I always. And I think this Is just important. Whenever you start, like, any venture or business, I always just, like, went back to why I started. And if you go back to my first video, it was all about, like, I want to help you narrow down your list. And I want to just feel like your girlfriend taking you to the dealership lot. Like, what I would tell my friend, like, if my friend called me today and asked me which car seat to get, like, I'm going to tell her something. And, like, one thing on me is I'm not scared to tell it to Instagram too, where I feel like a lot of other people in this space try to have such PC answers. I understand why they do, but at the end of the day, like, I just am trying to be helpful and save you time. So, anyway, also say is we decided to do a Car of the Year last year, and Elizabeth and I worked on, like, the selection and the selection process forever. Like, it was such a labor of love to. To. To figure out the criteria. Because what's so confusing is, like, cars get released throughout the entire year, and then they become available at different times. And so, like, for example, like, the. The 25 expedition's been released, but it's not. It got released in 24. It's not on dealer lots yet, so it won't be on dealer lots till 25. It's a 25 model year, so where would that fit in? Like, being eligible.
Kelly
Right. But there are some 2025 models that were for sale in 2024.
Liz
Right.
Kelly
So it's just. It's kind of. It's very, very confusing. Well, you can keep going.
Liz
Yeah. So anyway, we wanted to, basically. And we also just can't say, like, what's the best mom car of the year? Because then we would be comparing all the cars. So, like, you had to narrow it down to, like, who had the best redesign and refresh of the year. And we almost called it, like, the redesign of the year instead of Car of the Year because we just felt like I wanted to be so clear. It was. It had to be a redesigned car. And that's what everybody else does. Like, that's what Motor Trend Car and Driver everybody else does. It's based on redesigns.
Kelly
Yeah. We're not reinventing the wheel here. This is when. When cars are named Car of the Year for a different publication. It's the new. It's the new redesigns and new models.
Liz
And I. I also like awarding manufacturers who. Who made change. Like, I like that because then I think it encouraged manufacturers to make changes now.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Then you see someone like, I think, no offense, like Kia and Hyundai, and they'll just do it every year just to get on the ballot. Do you know what I mean? Like, I think they're kind of crazy about it. So anyway, the car has to be redesigned or significantly refreshed in the 2024 year, and it has to be available for sale because I have to be able to test it. So, like, Expeditions. Not on the list. Because I haven't tested it.
Kelly
Yeah. Hasn't been able to be. You haven't. It's not on a dealer lot, so.
Liz
It'S not on a dealer lot yet.
Kelly
Car seats in it. And it's. I want to back up just a little bit because we've been a part of other, like, parent family car of the year voting ballots before for other people, and the way that they will just ask anyone.
Liz
Never forget.
Kelly
Never forget.
Liz
Call it out, Liz. Call it out.
Kelly
Okay, so we went to this. I don't even. What does it even stand for?
Liz
It's like Midwest Automotive Media Association.
Kelly
Yeah, Midwest. Yeah. Okay. So we went there. They had a bunch of cars. We could. We. We drove. We were there for, like, two days. And then at the end of it all, they were like, okay, no, everyone place your bet for the best family car. The best. They had all of these little best categories. And Kelly's like, okay, well, what are we basing the best family car off of? And they're. They, like, didn't have an answer. And they're just asking these people who. We don't know what. I mean, granted, all families are different, but, like, we're not putting car seats in it. We're not testing it for anything, like, family capabilities or functionality. It was just like, oh, I guess an suv. So that has really rubbed us the wrong way. So that's why, like, we are very, very cautious when you see lists that are like, best family car. Because what are. What are you basing it off of?
Liz
And I want to, like, I don't need it to be. I'm fine with like, the diversity of, like, different. And I'm not saying that those journalists don't know what they're doing, because on. On. You could also make the argument, like, they probably. They know a lot about cars, as do I. But there was no criteria. It wasn't even like, oh, like, you know, the safety, comfort, and convenience. It was just like, they literally. I felt like an idiot for ask. I was stupid for asking the question. I was like, hey, just like, what are we basing this off of?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Which one you think would be good for families? What does that mean?
Kelly
Yeah, and it's just hard to see that when, when you, when you dedicate your entire job and your life to family cars. So should we, we shouldn't have voted for the best, you know, EV there or the best sports car there, the best whatever off roading vehicle there. In the same way that some people shouldn't be voting for the best family car. So I don't know, we just get rubbed the wrong way sometimes because it is like our entire thing.
Liz
So anyway, also say is we change up the voting. So last year it was the Volkswagen Atlas who was the winner and it was kind of a controversial pick but it's okay because I could pull up the data on why that was one like it just it they were all truthfully very close. The, the finalists last year were the Grand Highlander, the Lexus tx, the Honda Pilot, and the new and the redesigned Atlas. I mean it was honestly it was a, it was a tough.
Kelly
The Atlas, the way we vote is it's, it's blind. It's not against each other. It's, it's voting on each car. So like I' we'll say the Volkswagen Atlas 1 through 10 on comfort, 1 through 10 on convenience, 1 through 10 on safety. And then we put it all in. You know, we add them all up and then we see what ended up being the winner. The TX. What lost by like 1 point. Yeah, but we're not saying like what's better the, the Atlas or the TX and trying to compare apples to apples. We're just grading the individual cars and seeing what the score comes out to be.
Liz
Yeah. So, but anyway, so this year we're doing it a little different because we wanted to have like karma participation in it. Because one like huge thing about the karma is I, I always want to be able to amplify as many mothers voices as possible. So we have chosen the 10 finalists and now we are going to narrow it down to three and then we're going to put three through the voting process. Let's read the finalists. And if you're wondering why a car isn't on here, it's because it didn't meet the criteria. Because there really isn't somebody who like got left off.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. 2024 GMC Acadia. 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe. 24 Kia EV9. 24 Lexus GX24 Toyota Land Cruiser. 24 Chevy Traverse. 25 Volkswagen Buzz. 25 Honda Odyssey. 25 QX Infinity QX80, 25 Kia Carnival Hybrid. Now. Anyway, you can vote on the carbomb.com and please go vote. Please, please, please. I'm really excited about all of these cars. I think we have a really good, diverse list of. We've got two evs on there, which feels good. We have two luxury cars. We have some five. We have a five passenger car, three minivans.
Kelly
Three.
Liz
I know it's a big year for the minivans. I don't know. I'm really excited. I'm really excited. I feel like I think I know who the people are going to vote for. But I also really want to encourage you. Like, we wrote out, you know, little blurbs about each car. We included my tour in it. Like, gave some things about, you know, why we liked it.
Kelly
What was redone?
Liz
Yeah, what was redone? So I would encourage you to not just like, pick like the three most popular cars, because I think that there's some. I like, I don't, I don't need. I mean, if, if the popular car wins, that's fine. But, like, I'm also would love to give it to a sleeper car.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
Because it's really. Who, like, did a very, very demure, very mindful, very thoughtful redesign.
Kelly
Totally.
Liz
And that's what it's about.
Kelly
Absolutely. So go vote on thecarmom.com okay, Kel, can we get to our general banter? Because Kelly and I both had weekend. Maddie was at school this weekend. Tyler was kind of busy this weekend, so we just kind of had full blown, like, solo parenting weekends. And we were, we were talking a lot, calling each other, checking in, and Kelly and I came up with kind of an iconic new saying, so.
Liz
Well, let me set that. Can I set this? Can I set the scene, please? So I was, I actually. You were kind to hype me up, but I actually, actually, Tyler was home this weekend. Like, I actually had a pretty chill weekend. Like, I was, I was feeling good. You were, you were on the struggle bus.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
And you called me and I was telling you, like, you know, here's how. Because I, I've been where you are. I've been with the two under two. Like, you know, I. That was George and Hattie, like, you know, three years ago. And I was like, liz, you've just gotta, like, give her a bottle. Like, you were going to the doctor. That's what you were doing. You were taking both kids to the doctor. And I was like, here's what you do. Like, Prep, like, download YouTube Kids on your phone, prep a snack, pump a bottle For Sloan, like, you need to have a bottle pumped because it'll be easier. And you were like, yeah, but if I, like, do a bottle, like, at least when I'm nursing, like, I have one hand free. And I said, liz, you gotta chin the bottle. And I literally meant, like, no, just like, if you get a hand.
Kelly
So she. What you have to do sometime is just chin the bottle, and then you have. Then you have a free hand. And it just like. I was like, you know what they tell you? You got to chin the bar. Moms, we got to chin the bottle. Same thing as chin the bar. If you don't know what chin the bar means, it's like push through, pull up. When you're doing a pull up, you got to go. You got to put your chin to the bar. That's just like, really pushing yourself to your limits. You got to chin the bar.
Liz
You chin the bottle.
Kelly
And so we were texting all weekend. We're like, just trying to chin the bottle over here.
Liz
No, we were. Our texts were hilarious.
Kelly
This weekend, our text threads were quite funny.
Liz
Chin the bottle. Find it on a T shirt near you. We'll put it in a T shirt. Gun.
Kelly
Put in a T shirt. Gun. Chin the bottle. When the. When. What's the saying? When the going gets tough, the tough get going.
Liz
No. Is that it? I think when the going gets tough, you're supposed to stay.
Kelly
Huh.
Liz
When the going gets tough, the toughest. So the tough leave when it gets tough?
Kelly
No, they don't leave. They get moving. Like you get going.
Liz
Oh, I see. I see.
Kelly
We'll have to come up with. With a new. A new saying for that one. So anyway, it's in the bottle.
Liz
Love it. Something that I came up with, not came up with, but you know those things that just live so unbelievably rent free in your head.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Do you remember this show? I don't know if you ever watched it. It was like, called Six degrees of Separation or something.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Is that what it was called? It was like, okay, this is not what I was thinking of, because this is a show. I was thinking there was, like, this reality show. See, I don't. And then you just never know what's real and what's not. I thought there was this reality show where it was like, they both, like. There was, like, random strangers and they told there was a celebrity and they had to try to get direct contact to that celebrity. And six people or less.
Kelly
It was a six degrees of Kevin Bacon. I actually don't know if that's what it was. But there's like a saying that it's like, oh, wait, yeah, that's what it is. It's like Six degrees of Kevin Bacon, or Bacon's Law is a parlor game where players challenge each other to, like, choose a celebrity and try and figure out how they could get to them and through six connections. So it'd be like, yeah, So I would be like, okay, how would I get to Kevin Bacon? Okay, well, the first person I would go to is my dad, because my dad, know, has a friend who I know lives out in California who lives in la. So then maybe he could connect me with that guy. And then I would talk to that guy. And then that guy would be like, oh, you know what? I know someone in the movie industry. And then they would connect me to that guy. And then you just try and get. You trying to figure out how you want get to Kevin Bacon.
Liz
It's so fun. I am. I am fascinated. Do you think that you are six people away from anybody in the world? I honestly think I am.
Kelly
I don't like anybody.
Liz
Anybody?
Kelly
No, I don't think anybody, but I think. I think. I think, like, random famous people, for sure.
Liz
I think, like. Okay, no, yeah, no, I think anybody. I mean, six is a lot of people. And it's a small world. I'm telling you, Liz, it's a small world.
Kelly
You should be, like, very strategic about how you get to them.
Liz
Okay, let's pick a person and say who we would go for. Who's the most famous person? You know, me.
Kelly
Let me think about that. Maybe. I'm afraid. I'm afraid so. Trying to think there's an influencer I know who has more followers than you.
Liz
And then it's like, how well does that person have to know them to really connect you? Because, like, I have people's phone numbers.
Kelly
Well, I think. I think it counts.
Liz
You think that counts?
Kelly
Who's the most famous person you know besides influencers? No, I would say influencers are pretty dang famous.
Liz
Well, I mean, I. You know, here's the fun part about my job is like, as soon as I need a car in the DMs, I. You guys. Your draws would drop if you knew some. I'm not going to share because privacy. But you got your draw. A draw. If you knew some people, I DM'd with, like, celebrities.
Kelly
Celebrities.
Liz
But I mean, I've been on Catherine Schwarzenegger's podcast, so that feels. Yeah.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
And we dm.
Kelly
You could reach out to Catherine Schwarzenegger.
Liz
I Could reach out to Catherine Schwarzenegger. That's probably the most famous person.
Kelly
Never forget when Katherine Schwarzenegger told Kelly that. Because Kelly and Catherine get told a lot that they look like each other.
Liz
Well, I think people tell me. I don't think people are blind of Catherine.
Kelly
No, people aren't, Kelly. People all are telling Catherine because she said, oh, yeah, Some people said that we looked alike. And so I showed my husband your photo, and he agreed. Her husband's Chris Pratt?
Liz
Yeah. No. So Chris Pratt knows what I look like.
Kelly
Chris Pratt has seen a photo of you.
Liz
And he thinks I look like his wife. So.
Kelly
So winning.
Liz
Yeah. Catherine Schwarzenegger is probably the most famous person.
Kelly
Yeah. Okay, so I feel like you get really far.
Liz
So that's what I'm saying.
Kelly
It's like I can't control.
Liz
She knows everyone. Or she could put me to the next person.
Kelly
Yeah. Okay, so you're set. So I would probably go to you first, I guess, if I had to. If I had to do this.
Liz
It's just something interesting to think about. And listen, if any of you ever on that game, if that game ever comes back, call me. I'll hook you up with Catherine. Such a fun game.
Kelly
Such a fun game.

All I had to do was drag and drop last year's return into H and R block and bam. My information is automatically there so I don't have to go digging around for all my old papers to switch. Nope. Sounds like we just leveled up our tax game.
Kelly
Switching to H and R block is easy. Just drag and drop your last return. It's better with block. Okay, Kyle, we do have an advice question that I want to read because it's about auto shows and we have gone to mini auto show. And so I can understand how people maybe don't totally know what to expect, especially if you want to use it as an opportunity to look at cars that you're interested in. I think auto shows are a great place to do that because you get to see them all in one. Unfortunately for everyone The Karma motto shows not happening this year, but it will next year. That's actually the best place to look at all the cars. But if it's not going on, I understand you have to go somewhere else. And Jen is going to the Houston Auto Show. There are several tours she has her eye on. Huh? Sorry.
Liz
Several cars?
Kelly
Yes. Next. They're going to tour several cars. I have my eye. As we plan to purchase my next car this year, do I need to prepare in any other way other than bringing a list of cars I'm interested in? I understand people don't purchase cars at the show, but do you recommend we sign up for a private tour like Kelly has given in the past? Do I need to study the map in advance or just show up? We'll probably have a few kid free hours and want to maximize our time.
Liz
Oh, Jen, I have so many thoughts on this here. So in my honest opinion, auto shows are not what, what they once were.
Kelly
I would agree.
Liz
Like we grew up going to the St. Louis Auto show and it was, it was razzle dazzle. Like I remember going on like the evenings and there was like, there was so many activities. Like mom was wearing a heel, mom was wearing a pump. And we were like, at the St. Louis Auto show and like it was so fun. And then the St. Louis Auto show is like basically almost non existent.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
And for the rest of the country, like to my understanding, there's like A shows, B shows, C shows. So like the A shows are like the really major ones. Detroit kind of. But Chicago, New York and LA are like the really big auto shows. And that's where the manufacturers bring like, they're really cool displays. Like if you've ever seen us posting out an auto show, that's where it's like Toyota has like a Special Olympics activation and Subaru has like a puppy activation and like Lincoln's making coffees. Like those are like the A shows. They're not bringing those displays to every auto show across the country. And a lot of the time they're bringing like they're lesser displays or they're asking local dealers to just bring cars there. So not just. No, not to say that it's not a good place to see the cars, but I do feel like in general they've kind of really gone downhill.
Kelly
I think Covid was a big knife in the coffin for them. They were just when, when covet happened, they couldn't have events. I think that some manufacturers maybe realized like, hey, maybe we just don't need to be doing this like Maybe it didn't hurt the bottom line, whatever. Because the sets that they send are like several million. Some of them are like several millions of dollars. So.
Liz
Well, and I think that, yeah, it's kind of just come down to a budget thing for them because if you remember, we went to the New York auto show last April in Stellantis, who's Chrysler dodgy Bram. They pulled out like two weeks before the New York auto show. And like Jeep, Chrysler, Dodge Ram, what were not at the auto show. Honda and Acura haven't gone to auto shows in years. Like, there's just not a Honda display. So a local Honda dealer may send a car to look at, but it's not from the manufacturer. I think it's actually bizarre that they can't figure it out and make it better. So truthfully, I think it's bizarre. I would agree to answer Jo's question.
Kelly
Anyway, to answer John's question, I'm actually looking at the Houston Auto show right now. Step number one, definitely have your list of cars. I don't know what cars you're looking at. I can tell you right now, like, Volkswagen's not going to be there. So if.
Liz
But they. A dealer might be there.
Kelly
No, I'm looking at all the vehicles on display. Oh, on the website. I mean, maybe a dealer would be there, but that doesn't mean that you can. If Volkswagen Atlas is on your list, just like look at the other ones and then go look at that one later. Definitely look at what cars are going to be there and have that prepared. I don't know if they do. If they'll do tours.
Liz
Like, I would not do a tour, to be honest. I just, I can't imagine because it's like, it's not going to be.
Kelly
It.
Liz
I doubt it's going to be someone who has the knowledge that you're looking for with the cars, like just get like. And it just go quicker, you know, I mean, do you want to hear about the horsepower of like the Ford Mustang that's there? Maybe, maybe not. But like, if you don't like just go a little quicker, I think that's embarrassing. They won't have Volkswagen there. And like, this is where it kind of grinds my gears a little bit because get them there. Because guys, I had was what we had one manufacturer, we had Chevy send cars to the auto show this year. Everyone else we got ourselves. And granted, like, I know our. My family owns dealerships. They own five brands. We had almost every brand there because we called and we hustled yeah. So I think that's embarrassing that the Houston Auto show can't get Volkswagen there. I'm riled up. Riled.
Kelly
Well, maybe, maybe they tried. I don't, I don't know. And again, maybe I'm looking at their website. Does look like they have a VIP social. If you want to make it like a date night for your husband. If you and your husband like want to go look at cars and make it like a date night. A lot of auto shows will have like VIP nights where you'll get.
Liz
That seems bad. That seems worth it.
Kelly
You will. That seems more worth it to me than a tour. There won't be so many people there because on like the public days, it's can be hard to get into a car. So I would maybe like do the VIP social, have a cocktail, look at cars. That feels like a straight up relaxing good time.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
And that's, that's what I would do. And it'll be a fun. It. Actually I'm looking at, I'm looking at it right now. It kind of looks like it's going to be a good time.
Liz
Well, maybe we should go. When is it?
Kelly
Well, we're not gonna go, but.
Liz
We're not. We're not. I don't know what auto shows we're going to this year. They are just kind of. And the manufacturers you also used to. I mean, just even in the years we've been going, they used to make it way more of a to do and like it was way more like a manufacturer would like fly you there and like Ford would host a dinner and like Kia would have like a big reveal and they're just like, like I looked at the Chicago auto show press schedule and I'm like, the snooze and the lighting sucks. I just, it's interesting.
Kelly
You're kind of like on. You're like kind of fiery today.
Liz
Am I?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Well, I'm sorry.
Kelly
Well, it's okay. Just, Just an observation.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Okay. Do we have any industry news or was our industry news kind of like the, the voting open for.
Liz
We have a little bit of industry news. Wow. This is like so auto heavy today.
Kelly
So auto heavy.
Liz
Okay. This is from Automotive News. Ford to boost production of its most affordable models. Now this. I chose this story because everyone knows. Speaking of fire, you just want me to keep going. Remember when Ford just like took away the Ford Edge because they felt like it? I need answers. Love the Ford Edge. One of my favorite five passenger SUV's. They just stopped making it. So that was an interesting Choice. So then I was reading this article saying how they want to increase their affordable models. And I'm like, that feels really, really good. Like, that feels great. It says the automaker said it plans to increase the mix of lower priced trims for the F150, Escape and Explorer. And then Ford also plans to reintroduce a base trim of the Bronco. And I was like, okay, cool. Then I read down here at the same time, Ford is expected to discontinue one of its most affordable models, the Escape crossover, by the end of this year. The dealer who attended the make the make meeting said it was that concerned was raised and the executive acknowledged the challenges. A Ford spokesperson said after the meeting declined to comment on the future of the Escape, saying it remains an important product. But they're going away with the Ford Escape at the end of this year. And I was like, that's so interesting because. So then I'm like, what Ford SUVs are left? I'm gonna tell you.
Kelly
Explorer, Expedition, Bronco.
Liz
Right?
Kelly
So they're getting rid of the Escape. The Escape total or the Escape? What'd you say? Was it Crossport?
Liz
No, the Escape.
Kelly
Oh, they're getting rid of the Escape.
Liz
In total at the end of this year. They got rid of the Edge, they got rid of the Flex. It's like, can they just. And then we have Chevy who's doing the opposite. Chevy's like, what if we had a Blazer? What if we had a. Like a Chevy is riddled with cars. A trail. They have a Blazer and a Trailblazer in the Chevy lineup right now.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And so that kind of begs the question, like Ford at the current lineup isn't going to have a 5 passenger SUV that's not the Bronco Sport or the Bronco, which. The Bronco Sport is not really it for me.
Kelly
Yeah, that's very interesting.
Liz
I know. I don't like it. So hopefully they either bring back the Edge or the Escape because it's kind of like what we've always talked about. You know, they have millions of dollars invested in these names. Like they just simply can't.
Kelly
That's.
Liz
And that's kind of like with the story last week, that's why Wagoneer did Wagoneer ass. Because you do. We like the name. No, but how much, how many millions of dollars does it cost to get households in America to know that's a new Jeep model?
Kelly
Yeah. Maddie and I were talking about it that after we talked with that story and he brought up that the. So Jeep was thinking about getting rid of the Cherokee Jeep also used to have a Comanche. Like, they had, like, a theme going with these, like, Indian names. And then he also brought up that Ford has the Mustang, they have the Bronco, they used to have the Pinto. Like, they used to have horse names. And I kind of wish more manufacturers would like, pick a theme, do that across their lineup because I think that sounds. That's cool. I think that makes it an easier name to adopt because then if you hear, I don't know, give me a name of a horse.
Liz
Appaloosa.
Kelly
Appaloosa. Oh, my gosh. Because then when you see the. For the Appaloosa, you're like, oh, that's got to be a Ford because it's a horse name.
Liz
We're aligned. I like a theme. I like a theme.
Kelly
I like a theme.
Liz
And you know, I like. I'm really into this new car seat brand called Joy, but it's spelled J O I E, which. I'm sorry, I don't like that. That's confusing. I don't like when names are not how they're spelled. I think that's. I think that's a big. I think if you're starting a business, like, that would be a big no no for me. But obviously they know more than I. Anyway. All of their car seats are named after spices.
Kelly
Cute.
Liz
No, it's cute. So they have Breaker. No, but they have the Joy Chili, which is. They have the Joy Mint, which is the one. I like the Joy Nutmeg.
Kelly
That's really cute.
Liz
Yeah, it's cute, right?
Kelly
I like a theme. I like consistency. I think that there's a world where some manufacturer who has the. The Taurus.
Liz
Ford.
Kelly
Oh, well, four could do said. Like, they could have the Leo, the Capricorn.
Liz
No, you're right. That would be cute.
Kelly
Aquarius.
Liz
I'm sorry. They have the Joy Saffron. That's cute.
Kelly
It's so. Okay. I'm like. I am so signed up for that. I don't know why that brings me so much joy.
Liz
The. The rocker is called the Cinnamon. There's also a miso.
Kelly
I'm literally crying. That's so cute.
Liz
Isn't that cute?
Kelly
That's very cute. I'm here.
Liz
What could be so. Yeah, maybe zodiac signs. What would be like, another good. What about, like, elements?
Kelly
Well, I feel like that's what lucid's kind of doing.
Liz
Oh, look at you dropping the buzzword like lucid.
Kelly
The gravity. What are their other cars? The Lucid.
Liz
I'm going to pull them up for you air. Yeah, I think it's something she's like doing. Like she does like metal themes for her kid. Who does Brittany and Patrick Mahomes.
Kelly
They do metal.
Liz
Yeah. So they have a daughter named Sterling. Their son is named Patrick Mahomes III and they call him Bronze, which is cute. And they just had a daughter named Golden.
Kelly
Oh, I didn't. I'm not, I'm not in with the Mahomes.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Life. That's cute. I like that theme too. I've got some, some friends. They have a daughter. They do flowers. So they have like a daisy. They have a poppy. Other names on their list are marigold, collar, Goldie, violet.
Liz
Flowers are a good one.
Kelly
Flowers are cute trees, sycamore, oak, pine, you know. Interesting, interesting, interesting. Wish that more people would adopt that.
Liz
Anyway, also say is bring back the edge and escape Ford.
Kelly
Okay, Kel, are you ready for a.
Liz
Wait. Another story?
Kelly
Oh, I'm sorry.
Liz
Yep. Speaking of Jeep, Jeep counts on the Wagoneer s to win over new customers. The Wagoner also play a pivotal role in the company's effort to get the. Its US Retailing network acclimated to evs just a little. I'm just, I'm feeling. Starting to feel very fascinated by the Wagoneer s. Okay. This article says although it shares the same name as the Grand Wagoneer, it offers buyers a completely different option in the, in the segment. It does look nice. It has like a very sporty design. Like I don't feel like they're trying. I know I said I think in the last one that they're trying to make like Jeep off roading. This feels different. The Wagoneer S based on like these new photos and like they just recently had the first drive event. It gives more like, you know, I don't know.
Kelly
It's giving luxury.
Liz
Yeah, it's giving more. It's giving more luxury, I guess you could say. Anyway, I gotta find this number down here. Cause I thought it was. Okay. The premium or luxury SUV segment. So that's like the, that's like. That's not just Jeep, but that's like all the cars in general was valued at 4.1 billion in 2023 and is projected to meet 9 billion dol billion by 2032 with electric vehicles being the biggest part of that segment's growth. So they're saying that like luxury cars by 2032 will. Will be a 9 billion dollar market. And they think that like EVS are going to be what luxury buyers are after. So they're, they're putting. They're doubling down on the Jeep Wagoneer and trying to make it a thing.
Kelly
I do think that the buyer to go after would be the luxury buyer, way more so than the off roading trucking farmer. Like, I think that is so not the market. I could, I, I could agree with that. I could see how the luxury, the people who, you know, got the money to spend on a new, brand new, expensive car, got the money to put an EV charger on their house. Got the house that can withstand an EV charger.
Liz
And I think Jeep, if I was Stellantis, I mean, it's. I don't think people are talking enough about the fact that Chrysler as a model exists right now and they have one car and it's a minivan. The only Chrysler for sale right now is the Pacifica.
Kelly
That's crazy.
Liz
I don't know if people realize that there's an entire nameplate Chrysler, one of the, like, one of the big three, one of the best known automotive brands, and they have one car. Dodge is basically like almost gone. Yeah. And Ram. They separated. It used to be Dodge Ram. Now it's Dodge and Ram. The trucks are fine. I think that Jeep kind of needs to. They'll never officially cut ties, but like, I think they're trying to like, the Jeep name is good. The Jeep name being like surrounded with the rest of them. I don't know. I think it's bringing it down. But I'm cheering for Chrysler. Just come out with something else.
Kelly
Yeah. That's crazy.
Liz
They're keeping an entire manufacture, a float on a minivan and one with offensive headrest in the third row. It's crazy.
Kelly
Yeah, yeah. Anyway, Chrysler could use a resurgence. Okay, Cal, well, are you ready for ditch the drive thru where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut?
Liz
Yes.
Kelly
Okay, perfect. I just kind of want, like, bring something up. I want to talk about wraps. Wraps, we know, are a great easy dinner lunch recipe. Sometimes wraps can feel overwhelming to me because I'm like, I want it to be a good wraps, then I need all these extra ingredients and like, I gotta chop everything up. And like, they on one hand have so much ease and then also have an added layer of complication in my mind that reminded me about my, my cousin, My cousin who's a veget, our cousin who's a vegetarian. She told me that one of her favorite snack lunches is a wrap with a bagged salad inside of it. So what do you want? A Southwest wrap? Go buy a Southwest Bag salad. Do you want a Caesar wrap? Go buy a Caesar salad. You want a Thai variation? Go buy, like, the. All of the. But you have so many bags. Salads at your disposal. If you want to make a vegetarian, just put a salad in a wrap. If you want to add protein, chicken, turkey, like, whatever, steak, chicken nuggets for.
Liz
I mean, chicken nuggets.
Kelly
Let us not forget. I just think that a bagged salad is a very, very easy and approachable way to have a wrap without having to get all of the extra ingredients.
Liz
I think that's an. I think it's an excellent. An excellent dish to drive through Elizabeth. And, you know, one thing we love to do with our wraps is if you want just to make it a little bit more. Less salad. Salad with a tortilla, some rice, Microwave some rice and throw it in there. Rice, a bag salad, and a protein. Wrap it up.
Kelly
Wrap it up.
Liz
Not to brag, but I wanted to master the burrito wrap because I just feel like that's something I should be able to do as a mother. And I am happy to say I watched, like, two, like, reels about it, and I have mastered it. It's kind of like wrapping a presents. You got to tuck in the sides, and there is some spewage that comes out, but then you just fold over it.
Kelly
Fold over the spewage. So let us not forget, bag salads exist. And I think that that's our episode.
Liz
And let us not forget. I mean, like, truly, like, the reason I had a decent week was because I had a spray tan.
Kelly
Oh. Yeah.
Liz
I just think it's always important to know you're one spray tan away from liking all the clothes in your closet.
Kelly
Wow. Yeah. It's so true.
Liz
Do you know what I mean? It's incredible.
Kelly
I know.
Liz
January is just. I know, like, this is, like, the biggest trope on the Internet, but, like, it's just a tough month.
Kelly
Christmas feels ages ago. Ages.
Liz
Ages. I've.
Kelly
I can't believe it was one month ago.
Liz
That's insane.
Kelly
I know. This has been the longest month of my life.
Liz
What is that about?
Kelly
I don't know.
Liz
It's like this every January, and then, luckily, February's short, but then March is tough. I always wanted to have a baby in March so I would have something to do. I despise the month of March.
Kelly
Well, hopefully I'm. I still kind of feel like I'm getting my working legs back on getting back. And, you know, that was a kind of a long maternity leave, so I do think, like, we're really going to be getting in our stride in March, so I'm looking forward to that.
Liz
Yeah, I think we'll be straight. I think we'll be starting in March. Yeah, we have a lot of cars to film with.
Kelly
Yeah, we do.
Liz
I'm, like, chomping at the bit to do some more car seats in the buzz.
Kelly
I am chomping at the bit.
Liz
Yeah. People chomping. People are kind of into the buzz.
Kelly
I'm kind of into the buzz.
Liz
Are you?
Kelly
I see a world where if, like, they have any extra demos, I would 100 drive up a buzz.
Liz
Oh, my gosh.
Kelly
Speaking of buzz, I don't have an EV charger, though.
Liz
Elizabeth. Everyone, listen to me. I have the best new show to turn on for your kids.
Kelly
What?
Liz
Guess what? Netflix just put their. I don't know if it's old or new. I just found it on Netflix, though. It's a. What's it called when they remake a show? A remake?
Kelly
A remake.
Liz
Is that what it's called? That was a fancier word. It's a remake of the Magic School Bus.
Kelly
Oh, okay.
Liz
Come on. The Magic school bus. It's Ms. Frizzle's sister.
Kelly
Oh, my.
Liz
Also named Ms. Frizzle, but it's a slightly different character. But all the same. All the same people you love. George always wants to watch. The only things that George wants to watch is shows that we watch when we were little kids. I don't know why he's obsessed, but he is. And I was like, I remembered Magic School Bus. I typed into Netflix and I found this new one. They are obsessed. It is such a good show.
Kelly
Such a good show.
Liz
It is such a good show.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And you know what we're watching next?
Kelly
Huh?
Liz
Arthur. Arthur is the bluey of the 90s.
Kelly
Is it? Don't you think I could see that? I could see that for sure.
Liz
And, like, you know what show I will just like, not turn on for my kids at all.
Kelly
What.
Liz
What was one of the most popular cartoons when we were a kid?
Kelly
Spongebob.
Liz
Spongebob. I can't. I'm not doing that. Yeah, they, like, that was a thing in the 90s when they were like, in the early times, like, spongebob's riding your kids brains. And we were just like, it's fine.
Kelly
I know Maddie wasn't allowed to watch spongebob, so he doesn't really get a lot of.
Liz
I feel like we were allowed to watch it, but, like, mom didn't like it. Like, she told us every time that she didn't like it while we were watching it.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I honestly don't know what's so bad about it. I mean, now because they're watching, like, Blippi and Coco Melon, so, like, it's not any worse than that. Yeah, right.
Kelly
Yeah, I actually. Yeah, I know. I go so back. I go so back and forth on this, on the shows that they should be allowed to watch. I do feel like Bluey is a very safe space.
Liz
Bluey's incredible. Blue is my favorite show.
Kelly
I love Bluey.
Liz
It's my comfort show.
Kelly
Have you gotten into, like, the, the Bluey, like, lore at all?
Liz
You know, I. I am in an adult. I don't know. I'm embarrassed to admit that I am in a Bluey's adult group on Facebook.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
But they just point out, like, funny, like, funny coincidences, not, like, anything weird. Is there lore?
Kelly
No. So I. Okay, there was one episode. What was it called? TV Shop. Where.
Liz
Oh, yeah.
Kelly
Where.
Liz
No, I know. With the love story.
Kelly
With the love story.
Liz
With the love story between. What's their name?
Kelly
The. The terriers. And then the. The bulldog. The bulldog. So there's this, like, love story going on. And then I'm telling Maddie about it, and I'm like, I'm. I found this lore. And then, like, we had an episode of Bluey going on in the background, and then they, like, mention it again. And the, The. The bulldog was like, my mom doesn't live with us anymore. And then the, the. The terrier was like, my mom likes your dad. And it was like, the quickest little thing. But there's, like, backstory, and anyway, maybe I need to join that Facebook group. I love things like that. I love hidden messages.
Liz
Well, and I feel like. I feel like Disney movies used to do more of that, and now I feel like the newer ones aren't doing quite as much, like, funny jokes for the parents. Like, go back and watch Hercules. It's riddled with funny jokes.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Like, the funniest one is someone says, how do you. Hold on.
Kelly
Someone call XII.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Whatever it is. To say 911.
Liz
Someone called X. I, I. Yeah.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Funny.
Kelly
So funny.
Liz
Well, anyway, that's an episode. There you go.
