Welcome to the carpool podcast with Kelly.
Liz
So anyway, all's to say, don't take pumping advice from a car reviewer.
Kelly
Yeah, no, sorry. And I'm sorry if you didn't.
Liz
I'm sorry if I gave it. I'm having guilt. I won't do. I really will be more mindful.
Kelly
And Liz, I do think that I'm an athleisure queen and I really hate to say it. I feel better when I have like an outfit on your mom. Time off starts now.
Liz
Welcome back to the carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. Hey Lurz.
Kelly
Hey Kelsey.
Liz
Well, I'm sure everyone's like flocking to the pod because we had a pretty iconic redesign rebrand rebrand happening.
Kelly
We everyone was like when we launched some of our photos they were like I thought you girls were over hyping the photo Shoot. And turns out we weren't.
Liz
Yeah, we got our photos back, which included our new podcast cover art. I can't express to you guys how, like the current or the old one we took in my basement. I don't even have makeup on. Like, I don't even have mascara on.
Kelly
We were like, we just have to do it. Like, they need to cover our today. Like, come here, take a photo. Oh, I. I had to borrow one of your shirts. So we were both in like a neutral shirt. Like, we were not prepared for it at all.
Liz
Like, took it front camera on an iPhone. Like, it's amazing we've made it this far. Like, we're just. We're just a couple of boot strappers.
Kelly
I do think we had a ring light in that moment, so that's helpful. But seeing them next to each other, it's like, we're crazy.
Liz
We're coming for the charts.
Kelly
We're different people.
Liz
We're coming for the charts and we wanted to do something costume esque, auto related. Like, it's a bit. It's a bit. It's the carpool podcast with Kelly. We thought about doing like, racing jackets, but it just kept giving, like, motorcycle. And so we're like, what if we were just like your mechanical. Your mechanical girls.
Kelly
Yeah. Yeah. I honestly, I'm pulling the. I love it.
Liz
Yeah, I love it too. We feel really good about it. And yeah, it's the carpool with Kelly and Liz. So huge rebrand.
Kelly
Huge rebrand.
Liz
I mean, nothing's changing on, like the podcast front.
Kelly
No.
Liz
But it's just like a step in the right direction to becoming a more serious podcast.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Some days, like our podcast so feels.
Kelly
Unserious and then you look at the charts and you realize, how are we number, like 2, 3 and auto. I know, it's crazy.
Liz
It's so.
Kelly
It's because of all of you. And that's the only. That's the only way, so.
Liz
I know. It's so funny. And that just goes to show that, you know, if you're just. You don't. I don't really know what it goes to show.
Kelly
That is like, so profound. Yeah.
Liz
You know what I mean?
Kelly
So I think. I don't actually think you need to say it because I think we all know.
Liz
I think we all know.
Kelly
I think we all know where we're going. So anyway, new. New podcast art. Thanks for being here.
Liz
New podcast art. Huge week over here at the car, Mom. I'm kind of doing like a. It just so happens that, like, I have three friends who are pregnant who have asked to come check out my car seats. And I'm like, sure, but you have to sign this waiver and I get to film you.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I'm really excited because this week I'm going to be playing around with a lot of different car seat combos and a lot of different cars. Suburban.
Kelly
Hey. Oh, huge. You don't got to do much with the Suburban, so that's big.
Liz
Well, I haven't shared, but I'm getting a long term loan of a Yukon.
Kelly
You haven't even told me that. Wow.
Liz
I think it starts in April, so it'll be similar to the Chevy Traverse. So I'll drive it for like a month.
Kelly
Good.
Liz
Which, like, can you imagine the Yukon versus Expedition content?
Kelly
It's gonna be.
Liz
It's gonna ride itself.
Kelly
Yeah, I know.
Liz
I'm so excited. So my friend just got a new Suburban. Can't wait. My other friend is pregnant with her first and she has a Ford Explorer, so I think it'll be good. First time, mom. First car content. Because I have so many infant seats. I'm literally drowning in infant seats.
Kelly
You have like every infant seat.
Liz
I have, like every infant seat. And I, I will give them away. I just have to figure out, like, what I, what I want to have on. On my hands. In my hands.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And then our last friend, Megan, who, she's like one of the biggest karma supporters, she has a grand Highlander, and I'm actually giving a Mockingbird bassinet because Libby's outgrown it. She's having a new baby. She has a Mockingbird, and she wants to try out a couple of car seat combos too. Plus I have a Hyundai Palisade press card this week. Plus my Expedition. Plus it's gonna break 60 every single day.
Kelly
Oh, watch out, ladies. The content, the content is coming. Yeah.
Liz
And I've also. This is one thing I really wanted to talk about today on the podcast because it feels pretty iconic. I've totally changed the order of which I've gotten ready.
Kelly
And well, it's, it's, it's the common question of hair, makeup, outfit, outfit, makeup, hair, makeup, outfit, hair. Like, what do you do?
Liz
Right. So I'm gonna tell you. Well, first of all, and I, I, I, I want to have this conversation because it really has changed my life. And I've given it a solid three weeks. So I'm not just coming to you with my fresh. No, I've given it four weeks. Wow. So I'm not just coming in with my fresh thoughts, but I started showering, washing my hair twice a week, Sunday and Wednesday. Okay. I've dusted off the old air wrap.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And I'm noticing, like a huge change in my hair. It's just way more like natural. It lasts. I still have to touch. I still like that. I have to, like, re air wrap a couple of curls, but for the most part, it's like this blowout look that I've always been after.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So I do those everything. Showers on Sundays and Wednesdays and, you know, it's every bit of an hour 15. And I just, I make it work. I mean, literally, I did it this time with Libby and a bouncer Hattie painting her toes. And, like, Tyler had the boys. So, like, I don't. Don't think I'm like. I mean, I'm. I'm making it work.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
It's a make it work kind of moment, but it's a great investment into the rest of my week. So I give that context to, like, my hair's looking pretty decent. Like, my hair's semi blown out. Like, it's good. I think that's important for a mom to, like, have. Fix your hair in a way where you don't have to fix it every single day. And if you're doing that, you're in a good spot. So I started getting dressed first.
Kelly
That's unique.
Liz
I've never been a get dressed first girl.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Because like, you put on an outfit and you're like, well, I look so ugly. If my hair and makeup was on, maybe I'd like the outfit. But I have found that if I get dressed first, then I know what I need to do to get to where I need to be.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
If you're, like, trying to do your hair and makeup in your pajamas or like, in your oversized T shirt, like, at some point it's lipstick on a pig. Because, like, you're the. You're not seeing the final look come together.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Now maybe if you know what you're going to wear, you don't have to do this. But I never know what I'm going to wear. Like, I get ready and then I go pick out my outfit. And I don't think that's a good idea. So I've started picking out my outfit, putting it on. I know.
Kelly
I just find it hard to think that an outfit looks cute when I don't. When my face is not where it needs to be. Well.
Liz
And it doesn't. But then you're like, okay, this is jeans and a sweater. Like, conceptually, Like, I feel there's no.
Kelly
Reason why this shouldn't work. Right.
Liz
I mean, at some point it's like.
Kelly
Come on, the math is the math. I don't know.
Liz
Put a pillowcase over your face if you have to, like, just focus on the outfit and you're like, okay, this is it. I also. This is so crazy. But if I have don't like how I feel in an outfit, sometimes it helps if you put, like, a layer of lotion on. Do you kind of agree with me?
Kelly
Well, I think that a layer of lotion makes you physically feel a little bit better. And then I do think that there's a, you know, from a physical change, like, you look.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Moisturized.
Liz
If I don't like how I. If I don't, like, out. If it's feeling, though, because also it's.
Kelly
Like, I need to be a grown up.
Liz
Like, I can't be. I can't not wear jeans because they're not as comfy as leggings. It's like, you have to, at some point put real clothes on. But I find if I put lotion on and sometimes, like, a tank top and then put on my shirt over my tank, like, whatever, things are more comfortable. So I've started picking up my outfit first. Then I go into my bathroom. You know, my hair is decent already. And then I can, like, see how much makeup I really need to get to the full picture. And I have actually found myself wearing less makeup, so I'm taking less time because I'm like, oh, that's good enough.
Kelly
Because you can see what the full thing is.
Liz
Because I can see the full thing. But if I'm, like, getting ready in, like, rags, I think I need a full beat because I'm in rags still.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I'm telling you.
Kelly
Okay, Kel, you know what? I'm gonna. I'm gonna try it because I'm with you. I do think that I'm an athleisure queen, and I really hate to say it. I feel better when I have, like, an outfit on.
Liz
Like, I feel better living my role. Like, we're disgusting. Like, we're every girl we hate. I know it's a hard thing to.
Kelly
Say, and I. I really hate to say it. I fear that when you go and run errands and you look put together, you feel better about yourself.
Liz
But even if you're just gonna wear athleisure, like, so today I put on this athleisure out. I'm wearing athleisure today.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So, like, my makeup matches. My athleisure. Sometimes I'm undecided.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And so then I look stupid because I have my hair curled and, like, a lip liner, and I'm an athleisure, and I didn't have to do that. But I'm telling you, I wear jeans and a cute white sweater, and I'm like, you know what? A BB cream and a blush and.
Kelly
A little mascara, and that's all you needed.
Liz
I'm going natural.
Kelly
You're natural. Okay. I think you could be on to something.
Liz
I want everyone to try it. Group project.
Kelly
Okay. I will try it this week because. Oh, boy, oh, boy. Kel, I have been. I'm not gonna go through all my bank account subtractions, because I don't need to, but I did some bank account subtracting at the Loft, and here's the thing. When I feel like I need to get new clothes, which I need to do real, you know, when I feel like I need to get new clothes, I can't go on Anthropology, on Target, on Loft, on athletic, I can't do all of them and try and put them together. I'm picking one SP to spend some money at. And today and this week, it was Loft. So Loft got my business. Loft gets my business for a couple of reasons. Most obvious one is they have tall sizes. So I go through every category. I go through sweaters, I go through tops, I go through jeans, I go through pants, I go through. I go through everything. And I just kind of ordered everything. No, Even some stuff that I didn't really want because then I have to go and return something. So that's kind of the other thing. I ordered everything. I ordered a belt, like, I ordered everything.
Liz
Are you gonna do, like, a big haul try on?
Kelly
Yeah, I will if it's cute.
Liz
I think you owe me an apology.
Kelly
For what?
Liz
Well, a couple of years ago, when I was probably you. And so, let's see, when Hattie was Sloane's age, what were you up to? So that would have been.
Kelly
I was. I was the hottest I've ever been. I was gallivanting in Dallas, Texas. I was meeting Maddie. I was stunning.
Liz
You were stunning. And I think I told you, like, yeah, I've been shopping at Loft, and I think you were kind of mean about it.
Kelly
I want. I want you to really reflect and think about this for a second. Does that would. Does that sound like something I would do?
Liz
It might have been another sister.
Kelly
It also might have just been your perception of how maybe it was a reflection. Maybe you were looking in the mirror. And you said, wow, I can't believe I'm shopping at Loft and my sister's gallivanting. Because I don't think. If you told me, hey, I've been shopping at Laugh, I'd go, you've been driving unloved. Oh, my gosh, that's. I would never do that.
Liz
I'm not sure. I'm not sure, you know, but anyway.
Kelly
You'Ve been shopping at Law for a long time, and I. And I do know that you had that feeling about it. And I.
Liz
Like I'm saying, like, I guess I had the feeling, like, you come to a point where. When you're. Because I wasn't the hot. I was.
Kelly
I was.
Liz
I was. You were. You guys were all the hot young things. And I was shopping at Loft, and that was, like, by myself.
Kelly
Okay. By myself. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Because.
Liz
And my sisters were just doing such different. And Elizabeth, I remember when Hattie was. I guess when. Even when George was born, like, Elizabeth and I had been 16 months apart our whole lives. Like, went to High School 6 or, you know, went to high school a year apart. Got our licenses, went to college, started, like, became drinking.
Kelly
Everything was 16 months apart.
Liz
And now I find myself. You're. You weren't 16 months from shopping at Loft.
Kelly
No, we were. So far.
Liz
You were years from shopping at Loft.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And that was just tough for me.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Because I'm like, I need. And so I'm so happy that now you're shopping at Loft.
Kelly
Okay. Justice for Loft. It's very cute.
Liz
And I love Loft.
Kelly
Yeah. The Loft, too. But I. I hear what you're saying. We were in different phases. We were in different phases, and here we are. But now we're in the same phase, and it's a lot of fun. And. One phase.
Liz
Well. And so anyway, I was. So Then you said the Loft was cute, so that I went on the Loft. I'm like, the Loft is cute. But I didn't order anything because I'm worried we'll have the same things.
Kelly
Good idea. Elizabeth and I have pick a new store.
Liz
Ironically, like, the one day we almost showed up in the exact same Spanx brown Air Essentials jumpsuit.
Kelly
That would have been a costume.
Liz
It's like our podcast cover.
Kelly
It's like our podcast cover.
Liz
All right. Anyway, I know you want to talk about something else. I just.
Kelly
Anyway, something that I want to talk about is because we are always 16 months apart and because I have always looked to you for everything. Motherhood. I really haven't done any research of My own. And one area that apparently we have no clue what we're doing. That's pumping. I never watched any Instagrams on Pumping. I never watched the YouTube channel. I did no research on pumping because, oh, well, Kelly just told me how to pump. Now I know how to pump. Apparently, neither one of us actually knows how to pump because I have been so worried about my supply for Sloan. And I'm going to keep this brief because I've talked about on my Instagram. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I met with the one with. The one with a pump on.
Liz
She's on Instagram at the one with a pump.
Kelly
At the one with the pump. Her name's Tamari. She sat down with me for a consultation, and she found two areas that I am just straight up not doing things right. And she's like, this is great news because you don't have a supply problem.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
You just have no freaking clue what you're doing. She said it nicer than that. But that's. That's the reality. So the first thing that I was doing so wrong is my flange size. Kel. She told me. I told her which one I was using. She, like, had to. She laughed a little bit. She was like, imagine you're a size 4 and you're wearing size 12 pants. Like, that is how wrong your flange sizes. And she also told me that I need to be pump. And a lot of people in my DMs told me this too. I need to be pumping for 30 minutes because you missed some letdowns. So combining those two things alone, I've already seen an improve and I'm like, so encouraged. Anyway, follow Tamari. One with the pump. She's amazing.
Liz
I want to say something on this topic because I kind of. After Liz told me how much she's learned, I. I was literally, like. It made me almost feel guilty for all the times I've recommended the hand pump because Tamari was like.
Kelly
I told Tamari, she was, what do you do at work when you're pumping? I'm like, well, I have a hand pump. And she's like, why are you doing that?
Liz
And so I was like, wow. Like, because, you know, yeah, it worked for me, but it worked for me for what my goals were, which my goals were to only breastfeed for six months. Like, that was just whatever. So that worked. So when Lulu told me that, I literally, like, felt guilt from, like, recommending that in the past. Now, it also, I think, brings up a discussion of I think you have to be. And I was thinking about this last night. You have to be so careful and mindful about who you're getting advice from if you. If you want to. And think about, like, what is the context in which they can give that advice? And I'm going to take it into my specialty. And again, so I'm sorry, like, if you like a hand pump, good. I, like, I still like a hand pump. I'm still using it.
Kelly
I think there's a time and a place for a hand pump, but for my needs, where I have to feed my child for a year, like, I. I can't do the hand pump.
Liz
But when it comes to car seats, there's, like, a lot of people who will go to their cousins, their friends, their Facebook page and be like, what car seats do you guys like? And people will tell you what car seats they have. And what car seats they have is not helpful.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And I think you should just. And I'm not saying, like, you can only take my advice. That's not what I'm saying. But just if someone's like, oh, I have, you know, the Kiko Key Fit 35, I would ask them, oh, what do you like about it? Or, like, why did you decide to go for that one? And maybe they have a reason. Maybe they're like, because my cousin told me and it's working.
Kelly
Or maybe they're like, I extensively researched it and this, this and the other. Like, some people are like that.
Liz
Totally. I just think it's a good qualifying question when that goes for anything. Like, oh, I love my thing of this. And if there's multiple ones on the market, like, the same thing with cars. Oh, so, like, what made you end up going with that one? What sold you on that one? And then if, like, what. What sold them on that product applies to you, that's helpful.
Kelly
I think that's a such a good, tangible tip. Cal.
Liz
I think. I mean, I'm being serious. I just think. And obviously, like, people get a lot of advice from influencers, people with a following. And I do cringe. I'm sorry. I do cringe when influencers are like, this car seat's on sale. If it's not, like me or like another car seat person doing it, because that's the one car seat they've had. I have 50 car seats, and I will literally only post the car seats that I like and use every single day for my kids after having 50 plus of them. So just kind of interesting.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So anyway, all to say, don't take pumping advice from a car reviewer.
Kelly
Yeah, no, and I'm sorry if you didn't.
Liz
I'm sorry if I gave it. I'm having guilt. I won't do. I really will be more mindful.
Kelly
No, I learned that mistake firsthand. But do go get. Take advice from Tamari and other lactation consultants. She was amazing. Amazing. Here's something that I want to say. Bouncing off of the breast feeding thing, because I have been doing some reflecting and I'm gonna. I'm gonna be profound here for a second because I have been doing a lot of thinking. So. This has happened to me twice in my life before I met Maddie. For some reason I always said. I don't know why I always said this. Oh, I can never date a guy in the military. Like, I don't have that personality. Like, I could never do that. I don't know why I said that. I didn't know anyone in the military, literally. But we. We both always said.
Liz
We always said that.
Kelly
So weird. Anyway, I meet Maddie, obviously, man plans. Fall in love with him. Man plans. God laughs. I meet Maddie, first date. He tells me, hey, nine months from now, I will be deploying for 13 months. And I'm like, okay, whatever. My dating, it hasn't been lucky, so this will be fine. Anyway, fall in love with him. Have to do it. We date through a 13 month long deployment. People always told me, oh, I could never do that. I'm like, well, you would if you had to. My friend breastfeeds her child for a year. And I was like, I could never. Like, I am bowing down to you. You are incredible. I could never do that. Man planned God's laughs. Breastfeeding for a year.
Liz
Here's f pies.
Kelly
Here's f pies. And my. What I'm trying to say is, if you have to, you will. And people only quit when quitting is an option. And when quitting is not an option, you can quite literally do things that you always thought you could never, ever do.
Liz
Wow. Inspiration station, we have arrived.
Kelly
Just since I have this pattern, I just want to put it out there. I could never make a million dollars. Man. Man plans. God laughs. I'm hoping now I'm gonna make.
Liz
I'm like. I'm like, did you make a million dollars? What did you do?
Kelly
No, I haven't yet. But it's so weird that I said those two things. I can never date a guy in the military and I could never breastfeed for a year. And here I am, totally. So I just want to encourage people that you only quit when quitting is an option. And when you take quitting off the table, you can do incredible things.
Liz
Elizabeth, jaw on the floor. I'm inspired by you right now.
Kelly
So this makes me want to do something else with that. I want to, like, become a runner or do something. Like, I need to think of something that I not literally make. My child's life is on the line for me to be pumping for a year. I need to think of other ways that I can implement this into my life. But it's really, really changed my perspective.
Liz
Yeah, it's.
Kelly
Well.
Liz
And I think I've shared with you being so overwhelmed with everything we're doing with Fred, which again, I'm not an eczema influencer. So I really don't. I really don't want to share what we're doing only because I feel like I've bought. I feel like I've been bought and sold on a ton of different creams and diets and treatment plans. And I'm. It just feels like I don't want to irresponsibly share what worked for us when so many things. When so many. So much of that might not work for you, which is even like the diet changes. I'm like, I'm not this kind of mom. Like, I can't do this. I can't do this. And we're doing it.
Kelly
You're doing it.
Liz
And, and we won't always. I don't think. We're not, we're not always gonna have to do this. But even just like in the, like, I was so overwhelmed last Wednesday, I went to Costco, bought some stuff. Place a Thrive. I'm back on Thrive Market. I'll let you guys know what that the vibes are there. Place a Thrive Market. Order made gluten free, dairy free banana muffins. And I'm like, I started to wrap my head around it. I'm like, my head's wrapped.
Kelly
Can't leave. Said this. Can you see the next step in front of you? You don't have to think about everything else you have to do, but can you see the step in front of you? And the step in front of you is get Thrive Market. Find a muffin recipe. Like, that's all you need to do right now.
Liz
That's good advice.
Kelly
That's good advice too. This is very profound.
Liz
That's for so many different aspects of your life, Elizabeth. So, like Liz and I have like this big secret project. It's a huge undertaking. The secret project that we're doing. And, like, I have no idea how we're honestly going to get to the end goal of said secret project, but I know what we have to do next.
Kelly
That's all we have to do.
Liz
And when we get to the next stop, it's like. It's like stepping stones. Then I'll be able to see the next stepping stone.
Kelly
You just. You have to keep. You have to keep on keeping. You can't. People quit and quitting's an option. Maddie actually told me that because we've talked about this, like, really intense training that he had to go through with the Marine Corps. And so it's like a 24 hour, like, run, get punched in the face, run again, do this challenge. And he had been essentially going for, like, 24 hours. He gets to this next stop, and there are like 30 pieces of different guns sprawl sprawled out on a tarp. And he had two foreign guns. He had to build a gun. And then once he build a gun, they gave. He thought it was over and they gave him grid coordinates. And then he has to figure out the grid coordinates and he's to the next stop. Okay. It's five miles away, and he has to. He has to. He has one hour to get there, so he's got to run. And he's dead, dead tired. The guy next to him quits. Maddie's already took quitting off the table before he started. He said, I'm absolutely not quitting. Guy next to him quits. Maddie keeps going. As he turns the. There's a truck waiting for him. And it was actually the end of the thing. He didn't have to go do the next thing. Like, he had finished it, but they were trying to mess with the guy's mind to be like, no, you're not done yet. So you also just never. Yeah, when you take it off the table, you keep going. It's not an option. You never know when the end's gonna be.
Liz
I'm obsessed.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Wow. Inspiration station we have left. We are. We have arrived at the station.

I know. Today's episode is brought to you by Caraway. Caraway has me so inspired in the kitchen. I am inspired to use my pot and pans. They're so beautiful. Everything cooks so nicely on them. I'm really ditching the drive thru and love using my caraway. I recently got their minis duo and I'm absolutely obsessed with it. I can make a single pancake, a single egg, just melt some butter. They're not these big, bulky pots and pans that I'm trying to get out. It's honestly really changed the game for me. And Caraway cookware is non toxic, which we love to see because did you know that over 70% of fry pans sold in America contain Teflon? Oh my gosh. Caraway cookware set is a favorite for a reason. Liz
Anyway, let's pivot.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Because do I have anything else in my Dumpity do's before we just move on to what we're gonna do today? I have not been good on posting on the carpool.
Kelly
No, you don't. So let's do model lineup. We are going to do the model lineup of satisfying feelings. So I think you'll kind of get the vibes when we get into it, but it's essentially just things that when it happens, you just.
Liz
It's a serotonin. Serotonin boost.
Kelly
Serotonin boost.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Would you like to start?
Liz
And how many are we doing?
Kelly
We're doing three each.
Liz
Three each.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. I will start if that's okay with you.
Kelly
That's okay with me.
Liz
Getting into bed with clean sheets.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
You know what I mean?
Kelly
That feeling that, that even like a hotel bed.
Liz
Yeah.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Preferably like clean sheets at a hotel band at a whole hotel bed and you have like a little bit of a sunburn. You know what I mean?
Kelly
Yeah, totally.
Liz
But I'll just say get into bed with clean sheets.
Kelly
Okay. Clean sheets. I'm gonna say that moment at the end of the night or during the day when. When all of your kids are asleep and you just are maybe getting into bed with clean sheets. Not that. But just everyone being asleep.
Liz
That's not my favorite feeling because then I just think of all the things I should do while my kids are asleep. I never get that, like, reprieve shoot.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
You know.
Kelly
Yeah, but that's okay.
Liz
You already locked it in.
Kelly
Sorry.
Liz
Okay. Mine's gonna be a hot shower. And what I find so interesting about a hot shower is, like, how many times Elizabeth has a hot shower just changed. Your day knocked you up 17 notches.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Okay. Actually, you're not a good example, because Elizabeth takes the fastest freaking showers. Like, you. Do you even ever let, like, your mirrors fog up?
Kelly
I've taken lot my shower. I've taken longer showers that I. As I've gotten older.
Liz
No, but like, if. Like, when Elizabeth. I used to travel a lot for the car mom, like, she'd be like, hey, I'm gonna shower. I'd be like, okay, sounds good. Like. Like, it would literally be. I won't even have. Like, she was already out before she.
Kelly
I'm no nonsense. I'm no nonsense.
Liz
And you're wrong for that.
Kelly
I'm in and out.
Liz
You're wrong for that.
Kelly
You know what? Since I become a mom, I think I enjoy it a little bit more.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
There was just. There was. It was just. It was just an inconvenience of my day, really.
Liz
But no, like, if. If it's not a sauna when I walk out, like, the shower wasn't long or hot enough. But anyway, what's so crazy about long, hot showers is, like, 100 years ago, those didn't exist.
Kelly
Yeah, I think about that.
Liz
I think about that all the time. Because the way that I'll be like, I have to take a shower and it'll fix all my problems. Like, those people didn't do that.
Kelly
No, you would sit in a cold bath or, like, go into a river.
Liz
It's crazy.
Kelly
Which sounds horrible.
Liz
I would have quit that for the rest. Well, you can, I guess, when quitting's.
Kelly
Not enough, quitting is not an option. Okay. You've got some good ones. So I'm gonna say yours are just, like, such luxuries and minor. Mine are just. I. They feel really good in the moment. And that's going to be when you open up an empty dishwasher. Yeah, that feels really good. And I don't even care that then you have to do the dishes. I don't find putting dishes away that bad. When it's a clean, empty.
Liz
Well, no. Loading a dishwasher is the easiest job ever. Unloading a dishwasher is one of the worst jobs. Like, absolutely hate it.
Kelly
So this is twofold because a. Let's also say you didn't your husband unloaded the dishes for you, so you didn't even have to unload it? And it's. And it's clean, and you just get a load. A few dishes. And it's.
Liz
My last one is similar, and it's an excellent one. It's when you open the dryer and it's just a towel load and not, like, 27 socks.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And like, 14 matching jammies that you have to match up. Like, it's seven towels. You're like, you know what? I'll fold those right now.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
That's, like, such a good feeling.
Kelly
Yeah. Okay. There's a. Years are good.
Liz
Those are my. Three years are good.
Kelly
I have one more. This might be niche, but when your toddler wants a snack and he has not disclosed what snack it is, you know, this could go one of two ways. Either you pick the wrong snack and then he's pissed, or you say, oh.
Liz
You want a bar?
Kelly
And he goes, yeah. And then you give him the bar and he's happy. I'm gonna say that.
Liz
And it's done.
Kelly
And it's done.
Liz
It's done before it started.
Kelly
It's the. Yeah. From a toddler. That just feels good.
Liz
Totally. I think that's an excellent one.
Kelly
Thank you.
Liz
I think mine are better. So to verify. Mine are Hot shower, getting in the bed with clean sheets, opening the dryer, and it's only towels. I mean, that's a freaking. That's a freaking, like, Friday night.
Kelly
That's a dream day.
Liz
Oh, my gosh. Elizabeth, have you watched the show Running Point?
Kelly
Never even heard of it. Is that what it's called, Running Point?
Liz
Oh, my gosh. Okay, I have. Can we please chassis about this for a second?
Kelly
Yeah. I don't know.
Liz
Yes. Running.
Kelly
Oh, I started it, but I have not.
Liz
So you. So you have watched it?
Kelly
No, I. I started the first episode.
Liz
Elizabeth, it is so. I think it is the best show ever. First of all, is that Kate Hudson? Is that who that is?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Kate Hudson's outfits. I have never one time in my life looked at something on TV and then googled Kate Hudson. Blue dress, Running Point. And I did it because her outfits, each one is better than the next. Like, it is such a vibe. Her outfits are incredible. It is the funniest show I've seen in years. Tyler literally looked at me and asked if I had, like, taken an edible or had been, like, drinking wine.
Kelly
Oh, my God.
Liz
Because I was giggling out of con. I've. He's never heard me giggle like this before.
Kelly
Okay. No, I started it. I need to watch it. Brenda songs in it. Love, Brenda, Elizabeth.
Liz
It's hysterical. It is so funny. You have to watch it.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
Everyone has to turn it on with your clean sheets after a hot shower tonight. That's a satisfactory.
Kelly
After your kids go to bed.
Liz
Yeah, it's so okay.
Kelly
Your. Yours are better than mine. That's okay.
Liz
Oh, my gosh. It's excellent, though.
Kelly
Okay. But anyway, I need to wash it. Okay. Here's something I want to talk about. Have. There's just kind of like, drama. This is like, kind of industry news of the mom space. There's like, drama. Have you heard about this snoo drama?
Liz
I briefly. I think they, like, asked for a back from an influencer.
Kelly
Yeah. So Snu is owned by. What's the company called? Happiest Baby.
Liz
I've never. First of all, I've never been on the snoo train.
Kelly
I've never been on the snoo train because they're. They're expensive and I've just never. I've never bought one, so. But I mean, I know that people who have them really, really love them, and I do think that they're. They're probably very effective, but I just wasn't. I don't have the seventeen hundred dollars to spend on it.
Liz
But I would also ask them, like, why they ended up going with it and, like, if they compare it to, like, other baths. You know what I mean?
Kelly
Totally. If we're just totally so influencer. Brooklyn Larson unexpectedly lost her newborn baby boy, Rocky in November of last year. However, beforehand, she had received a $1700 snoo bassinet from Happiest Baby.
Liz
$1700.
Kelly
So expensive. Arranging to create content featuring the item. Now the brand has faked backlash from social media users berating the company for their allegedly insensitive handling of their partnership with the influencer. So apparently what happened? And Brooklyn's sister went to Instagram about this, like, months after it happened. And Happiest Baby allegedly asked them to send the bassinet back since they wouldn't be using it.
Liz
Oh, my gosh.
Kelly
So name. So Happiest baby who sent my. This is what her sister said. Happiest baby who sent my sister the baby bassinet after my sister said she would tag them in their content with a newborn baby after sending an email regarding the content she wasn't able to send because her baby had passed away. They demanded she. They demanded she send the bassinet back. The empty bassinet still sitting next to her bed now Happiest baby has come out. And they have said, well, we were trying to remove a trigger, which is an empty bassinet. And apparently they were also offering to send a courier out to pick it up. So it's not like they were asking her to, like, deconstruct this bassinet and, you know, mail it back, because, like, that's a nightmare to do. But then Kenna, the sister, she's like, they have sent six emails demanding the bassinet back. So it's kind of like, who's right, who's wrong. We haven't seen the emails, so I would be curious to know, but, like, she's, like, very, very, very upset about it. So that's kind of the.
Liz
Well, I don't think. To me, if. If snooze. And again, we're speculating, but if snooze story is true about it being a trigger, you offer one time and then you move on.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I can't imagine, like, what. Because then. Then if they're trying to, like, use the mask of how they think she's feeling, how they think that's triggering, to berate her to keep asking for it back in the name of. It's a trigger.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
I just did air quotes. That's crazy.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And they're wrong for that.
Kelly
They're wrong for that. So that's where it's like, the six emails is pretty damning for them, because the one to offer, hey, we'll. We'll send someone out to remove it. I can understand that. But it's also, like, it was. It's one item. It's one product. Like, just let this one go. I'm sure you gift them to people all of the time, like, let it go. And now this is blowing up so much worse in their face than had. They had just, like, lost the ROI on one singular bassinet. Now it's unclear if she had a partnership with them to, like, be paid to talk about it. I think she was literally just tagging them, too. So it's. It's. It's not a good look.
Liz
Yeah, that's messy, Bessie. And I'm not. I don't like that at all. Yeah, I think. I think that truthfully, I think the price point of that's new is a little predatory for parents. Anyway. I think that's.
Kelly
I.
Liz
And this is kind of a hot take, but I think some baby products, you're literally preying on tired, desperate families, promising them something if they can spend this money. Like, I'm. And I know people like, theirs too. But, like, there's. I. There's no reason for it to cost that much. There's just not, like, I understand enough about. I feel the same way about some car seat brands. Like, I'm not going to name them because I'm not going to be sassy. But, like, you're being sassy. No, it's like you're trying to.
Kelly
It's a lot.
Liz
You're preying on parents, being worried about their kids, saying that they need your expensive seat.
Kelly
Yeah, I don't like that. I don't like it.
Liz
I just want to like asking for it back. That's the most insane thing I've ever heard.
Kelly
It's. It's. It's insane. It's insane.
Liz
So I could never imagine. I mean, there's like, products that I've tried where it's like, oh, yeah, like, I'll do a partnership. Tried the product, hated it, offered to send it back. I'm like, no, it's fine. Just donate it. They've told me, I've been told multiple times, oh, just donate it. You can just donate it.
Kelly
It's just like, I think about, you know, our. Our Car Bomb Auto show and Mockingbird will literally give us six double strollers to give away. Yeah. Like, yeah. So it's. It's, it's.
Liz
It's messy.
Kelly
It's really, really messy.
Liz
It's a bad look. And you just got to be care. I mean, you don't have to be careful. You have to be a decent person.
Kelly
You have to be a decent person.
Liz
And I think that's the underlying.
Kelly
Yeah. Thing. So crazy. That's the drama.
Liz
Well, that's the. That's the hot tea going on in the mom industry. Should we transition to the hot tea going on in the auto industry?
Kelly
Yeah, let's.
Liz
Okay. There is a new scam out there which I have been victim to.
Kelly
Oh, victim to a scam.
Liz
FBI warns against falling for scam text messages about toll roads.
Kelly
You can't tell me you fell for that.
Liz
I didn't fall for it.
Kelly
Oh, okay. I've gotten.
Liz
But I've gotten like, literally three in the past month. Being like, this is your last war, your toll. And I'm like, I don't know. I. We don't live in toll areas. I don't know what you're talking about.
Kelly
Also, we drive dealer cars. You could literally never track it back to us.
Liz
Literally. It's like I was driving a press car. So call Lexus. I don't know.
Kelly
How do you have my Number.
Liz
What are tolls? Are you const. No, I know what they are, but like, we just don't have any around us.
Kelly
No, we don't have any around us. And it's kind of ridiculous. It just feels like once the highway has been paid for, they should take the tolls away.
Liz
Aren't you getting enough of my money through other avenues?
Kelly
Taxes. Isn't that what taxes are for?
Liz
Such a good question. Anyway, here nor there. But if you get like the FBI is saying, like, this is the latest scam. Government agencies and toll services are warning people to be cautious of the scam and to avoid clicking on the suspicious links.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So that's the hot tea going on in the auto industry. Additionally, something that the car mom has been talking about on stories this week is like the topic of buyer's REM remorse. And I just wanted to talk about it a little bit more. Like, flush it out a little bit more. I'm not gonna like, say what I said online, but one aspect of what, what I'm calling, I'm coining the term late term buyer's remorse.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
And that's when you start to hate your car before you intended to hate your car.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
So like let's say you, you plant, you thought you're gonna be able to keep this car for five years. You're on year three and you hate your car. You have the new car bug. You're itching like it's all the things I want to talk about. One major way to avoid that. And it's not like that groundbreaking of A1, but it's cleaning your car, having pride in your ride, reorganizing your vehicle, maybe changing up your car seats if it like, allows for better functionality. Because the biggest people get buyer's remorse for when they feel like they're spending a lot of money on a car they don't like. That's when you feel. That's when you start to feel the ick. So it's so crazy about cars and auto loans and things like that is when you sign up for an auto loan and you're driving a brand new car, you have the same payment four years from now.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And now it's not a brand new car. And you, and you feel like you have a new car payment and you feel like now you're paying 550amonth to drive around in a french fry graveyard.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And you have to work on that.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
So before you get like the new car itch. And it's very debt free mom like care Creates contentment. But, like, I'm going to call it, like, I think Liz came up with this, like, pride in your ride.
Kelly
Pride in your ride.
Liz
Like, have some pride in your ride. I'm sorry. The one thing I like, I need us to all move on from is the trope that moms have to have messy cars, disgusting cars. Disgusting cars. And I just, like, I'm sorry. I don't. I don't like the. Clean my car with me. And, like, you find things with mold in it. Like, that's not.
Kelly
There's.
Liz
There's a level where it's like, you.
Kelly
Now.
Liz
Let'S not get there again. You've been there. Let's put different processes in place.
Kelly
Let's put different. You would never let your kitchen get to that point. So why are we neglecting our cars?
Liz
And why is it, like, I don't understand. No, you guys, I. My car is not perfect.
Kelly
No, no. My car is messy. My car is messy. I need to do a. Okay, the monthly clean, weekly clean, whatever it is. Just, like, schedule the clean in there. There is no other part of your house that you. L really never clean until it's too far gone.
Liz
Totally.
Kelly
And that's what we are doing to our cars.
Liz
That's what people are doing to their cars. And I don't. I don't like it. And then I understand why you then feel, gosh, I'm paying this much money in my car is. And that's when people get in bad financial situations because they. They don't feel like it's worth it because of what they've done to their car. So it. Even if a professional detail is not in the budget setup processes to take to empty the car, I think the least amount of things you can have in the car, the better. Like, don't let me de influence you. Do not buy any back of the seat, back of the trunk organizers. You do not need that.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Because, sister, it's not gonna look like that.
Kelly
It's more stuff in your car.
Liz
It's junk. It's junk. Keep your car as empty and clutter free as possible. I would try to empty it every night. Every two nights. Take a laundry basket out and just bring the laundry basket inside. Like, you don't have to put the crap away. You'll put it away eventually if it's in your house, but get it out of your car.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
And then car wash subscription. Wipe down, like, vacuum out and just keep. I would like us moms to keep our cars a little cleaner. Like, I don't like, that we have the stereotype of we have these super messy cars. Because, like, to your point, no other aspect of our life is like that.
Kelly
Yeah. Yeah. And, hey, I get it. It's hard. My car is messy. This is something that I need to work on. Like, we're not berating anyone, but you know what? Quitters. People quit when quitting is an option and quitting is not an option. Like, we have to. We can improve. And so that's like the kind of. The other thing. It's like, well, oh, you know, that's just. That's just how I am. Like, that's just how moms are. It's like, why can't we aspire for more?
Liz
Well, then it's the.
Kelly
Why can't we work on this?
Liz
The angel questions. When is it everyone has a different level of when it's aspirational and when it's toxic.
Kelly
Yeah, I know. So true.
Liz
And that was, like, one of the most profound things I've ever said. And if people remember that conversation, it was surrounded when Ballerina Farms. Was. Was she doing, like, competing in a competition, like, 12 days postpartum?
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
And the Internet, some people found it toxic, some people find it aspirational. And all of us are gonna have different thresholds of that. The important thing is not to center ourselves, but also, you can. I just. I would like. I just think we could have cleaner cars. I just don't like that. My. It's also. It's a better investment in your time.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Your car will stay cleaner longer than your kitchen. You wipe like. I'm talking to the mom who, like, wiped down her counters three times yesterday.
Kelly
Huh? Yeah.
Liz
And has, like, you know, ketchup smeared on her car walls. It's like, you wipe down your counters three times, wipe down your counters two times, and go wipe in your car once.
Kelly
Once. Yeah.
Liz
So anyway.
Kelly
No, I think it's good, Cal.
Liz
I like. Pride in your ride will help prevent buyer's remorse. Clean cars drive better.
Kelly
Well, we're having a lot of little takeaways today.
Liz
No, it's like, I'm telling you, it's inspiration station.
Kelly
Inspiration.
Liz
Get on the train. Let's move on to ditch the drive, where we give you an easy to hold on this to the drive through, where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut. Okay. I am bringing the dish to the drive through. And it's more of a theory which sometimes are the best itch the drive thrus, you know what I mean?
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
It's because when I have been sharing about our, like, new diet journey, people, you know, will send subs and people. People in a lot of different recipes. But I've had. I had one person I would tell you it was. They gave me the best piece of advice and they said when it comes to gluten, dairy free, remember Kiss, Keep it super simple. And like, you don't always need to, like, substitute yourself to death. And it's like, okay, what is gluten and dairy free? Pork steaks.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
Brussels sprouts.
Kelly
Right? Yeah.
Liz
Rice.
Kelly
Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes it's not like, get the almond flour out and do.
Liz
Right. But in the same sense, I think it's like, pick your. Your three things that you're gonna cook for dinner and then try to sass up one.
Kelly
Mm.
Liz
So last night for dinner, we had salmon rice and I had zucchini. And I was like, you know what? I oven baked the salmon, the rice, I freaking microwaved, like, whatever. This was easy. Like, I'm gonna sass up the zucchini because I don't know if my family's gonna eat zucchini. Well, so I breaded it in almond flour and then I fried it in avocado oil.
Kelly
Yeah. Now how did you fry it?
Liz
So I'm.
Kelly
Stop. You ask.
Liz
I'm really coming into my. I'm really coming into my own. So. So we did egg. I dipped it in egg, put in almond flour with, like, seasonings. I let the oil get hot on the stove. I took a little bit of, like, the breading and threw it in there and it, like, started frying up.
Kelly
Okay.
Liz
So I was like, oh, it's ready.
Kelly
Okay. I don't know.
Liz
I don't know how to fry.
Kelly
I don't know how to fry either.
Liz
And I was like, oh, okay, it's ready. I didn't do very much. Like, just enough to cover the pan and I fried them. And I'm gonna do it again tonight because my family freaking loved it.
Kelly
It sounds really good. I know that you're dairy free for Fred, but that would sound so good in, like, homemade ranch dressing.
Liz
Totally. Well, in the recipe I used. Cause it was just a gluten free recipe called for parmesan cheese, like, in it. I was like, oh, that would have been.
Kelly
Yeah, that would be good too.
Liz
Little lemon on top though.
Kelly
Like, oh, my mouth is watering.
Liz
I'm telling you, it was really good. And so I like the idea of just keeping it simple, but then choosing like one area of the meal to sass.
Kelly
Yeah. Okay.
Liz
Instead of, like, thinking about combining things and, like, making this, like, really crazy dish, it's like, tonight, for example, we're gonna have what?
Kelly
So it's kiss ass. Keep it super simple and super sassy.
Liz
Oh, it's kiss ass. And once. Yeah, that's funny.
Kelly
And singular sass.
Liz
And singular add singular sass. Keep it super simple.
Kelly
Add singular. Singular sass. Kiss ass.
Liz
So for tonight's kiss ass meal, we are gonna do pork steaks. I made sweet potatoes last night, so we're gonna have, like, baked sweet potatoes, and we have Brussels sprouts, and I'm gonna sass the brussies.
Kelly
Oh, I mean, Brussels sprouts. You can sass five ways a Sunday.
Liz
Well, I don't know how I want to do it, because first of all, like, one thing about me is, like, if I'm at a restaurant and we're talking about apps for the table. Brussels sprouts and Brussels sprouts are on.
Kelly
I'll never not get always Brussels sprouts. You know what's good with Brussels sprouts is the Trader Joe's. Like, it's some sort of, like, Thai. It's, like, pink. What is this Thai dip?
Liz
Like a Thai chili sauce?
Kelly
No. I think I might have someone give it to you.
Liz
Oh, okay.
Kelly
Let me look it up, because this is.
Liz
Well, and I can also look it up myself, but I'm going to. So the pork steaks, I'm just gonna, like, you know, season do on the Blackstone. I told you, we just had mashed sweet potatoes. So I'm gonna look up a really sassy brussy recipe.
Kelly
Thai sweet ginger sauce.
Liz
Is it gfdf?
Kelly
Oh, I have no idea.
Liz
I'm sure it probably. Actually. It probably is.
Kelly
Yeah.
Liz
A lot of, like, Thai and Indian food is. Which is.
Kelly
This is weird. Did you know you can buy Trader Joe's sauce on Walmart.com? that's strange.
Liz
You have to fact check you there. But anyway, that's my plan. So kiss ass.
Kelly
Kiss ass. Wow.
Liz
Choose one area to sass.
Kelly
Kel. We have, like, this was, like, so many little things to remember.
Liz
I know. So hopefully this is just a taste of, like, I feel like we might have some new listeners after they saw our cover photo.
Kelly
Do you think they saw our cover photo? And, like, I got. Those look like girls. I get it.
Liz
And they're like, I. They're like, oh, yeah, this would be a great podcast about automotive.
Kelly
Yeah, it was, like, super light industry news, but it was in there, so you can't say it wasn't so anyway, thank you so much for listening to the Carpool Podcast, and we'll talk to you next time.
Liz
See ya.
