Guest
And Liz, the month between, the one month between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year is very hard. And it's kind of like putting a damper on my Christmas season.
Liz
Your mom time off starts now. Welcome back to the Carol podcast with Kelly and Liz. Liz, I want to go see the Wicked movie so badly.
Guest
No, so badly. Unfortunately for us, I think it's going to be like a streaming moment.
Liz
But the way I would pay $40 to stream it in my living room right now because that's what I probably spent at the movie.
Guest
Hundred percent. It's just, I can't, I can't get out, you know, to go see a three hour movie right now. But I would, would pay big, big bucks to watch it.
Liz
Where are, where are we going? Movie industry. Because, like, isn't a dollar a dollar? Like, why do you have. Do we have to be. Can we. I guess, like, they want people to go to the theaters, but I'm also like, do we need the theater still? I'm not trying to be that girl. I'm just.
Guest
Yes, we do. We need the theaters.
Liz
Okay.
Guest
I would prefer to see the Wicked movie on a big screen at the theater. I would prefer to do that. I can't do that with a newborn, so. And some people love the theater. And it's, it's the, it would be so sad if the, if the Internet took the theater. You know, it's already taken a lot of big box stores. I just, I don't want to. I don't want to lose the theater.
Liz
Okay. For the theater.
Guest
For the theater. So I will wait. Also, you know, it's two parts, so I'm not, you know, the longer part. Yeah, it's. It's two parts. They stop it at what intermission would be in the theater.
Liz
No, no, no, no, no, no.
Guest
Yes.
Liz
Yeah, I don't think that's right.
Guest
Yes, it is right. 100% it's right.
Liz
It took them 5 ever to make this movie.
Guest
They already have the other part filmed. It's coming out in 25. They.
Liz
Annoying, but I understand.
Guest
Yeah, annoying, but I understand.
Liz
Is Wicked Disney. No, this isn't a Disney production.
Guest
No, I don't. I have no idea what. I don't know who's producing Wicked. But yes, it is two parts which, like, kind of good for them. And then they don't rush you through everything. Like, you get all the songs and you get all the beautiful, like I am. So they've done a really good job on this press tour to kind of like give you an insight to how well made this movie was.
Liz
Yeah.
Guest
Like, I know more about this movie than any other movie I've ever not seen before.
Liz
And the people who have seen it have been raving about it. And if you compare it to like the Barbie movie, like, Barbie movie had so much hype. I'm sorry. Horrible movie. Let's, let's just all. Now that we've come past it, we can all admit, like, one thing you don't ever need to do is see the Barbie movie twice.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
I think this is going to be like the film.
Guest
Totally. And they did have very big shoes to fill in very high expectations. So I think there was a lot of pressure on this movie.
Liz
That's true.
Guest
And especially, you know, the people, the theater people. I'm not a theater person, but I love, you know, I like Wicked. Who doesn't like Wicked? But the theater people, the die hard wizard of Oz people that I. Hard, Wicked people, like, they are going to nitpick the heck out of this. And I've only seen great things about it.
Liz
Yeah. So if you're getting me hyped again, I want to go see it. I'm. I'm with you. I'm just like, logistically, that's not how I could spend three hours away.
Guest
No. Yeah, no, it's not. But I'm very, I am very excited to see it. I'M excited for the spoilers to start coming up. You know, on the other.
Liz
Now they're starting to post like the. Yeah, now they're starting to post some of the songs on the Internet and I watched. What is this feeling the low thing. That one.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
It's just it. It is production. I'm very.
Guest
Anyway, Sydney and Grayson saw it. They said it was great. They said that Ariana Grande wasn't there. It was all Glinda. 100%. Like they saw no Ariana. They saw 100%. Only Glinda.
Liz
Okay, good. Well, that's probably best.
Guest
Yes. Which I think is very good for such a star and well known person like Ariana Grande to act, actually transform herself into a different character I think was probably a challenge and I'm happy to hear that it. That it worked out.
Liz
Yeah. Well, anyway, that's not what I. I didn't think we were going to go there. But just if you've seen it, I'm so jealous and I really want to go see it.
Guest
Same.
Liz
I don't know, maybe I'll try to figure something out like hit up like a matine in the, in the middle of the day or something.
Guest
It doesn't help the newborn thing.
Liz
Well, yeah, that's like.
Guest
I think it's three hours long.
Liz
If they were just like a little younger and like a little sleepier, I'd probably try to bring her. Is that allowed? I mean, I would obviously walk out if they started crying. I'm not a monster.
Guest
I don't know.
Liz
I don't know. Anyway, welcome to December.
Guest
Welcome to December.
Liz
So Thanksgiving and Christmas are the closest they can possibly be. And that's I think stressing a lot of us out. So I've actually been very annoying. I was, I was grateful for the early Black Friday sales because like I simply didn't have. I don't have the time.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
By the time I get something in the mail because no one's shopping in store. So I'm ordering everything. I know Amazon's delayed. I've got to get things wrapped. I don't even know what I have for what people I'm feeling. So I did not do a good job. I was a little unorganized cuz like I thrifted half the gifts. I kind of buy Christmas gifts all year round for people. I. Inventory needs to be taken.
Guest
Step one, the month between. The one month between Thanksgiving and Christmas this year is very, very hard. And it's kind of like putting a damper on my Christmas season.
Liz
Oh no.
Guest
Also I Think that the weather and the fact that it hasn't been cold yet in Missouri is putting a damper on my Christmas season.
Liz
I know. What is that about? Like, I have sweaters to wear. I'm literally had to dig out like a short sleeve shirt. The.
Guest
I know because it's just.
Liz
I'm so confused.
Guest
Yeah, but same. Oh, well, it's fine.
Liz
But anyway, I thought we have a lot to get to today. I have some huge industry news that I've been dying to talk about. Like, Hyundai released their new Ionic 9. Jaguar is being moronic. Like, there's a lot of drama to get there. I also have a stellar ditch to drive through before we do all of that. Dumps facts. Last three.
Guest
Yeah, for sure. Let's do it.
Liz
Oh, one thing I wanted to say before we got to. Last three.
Guest
Okay.
Liz
Holy smokes. What is it called? DMUR D M E R. Yeah, that's not.
Guest
That's. That's not what it's actually called. That's what they. That's a shortened version.
Liz
Well, it stands for so many big words.
Guest
I know. You better let me do it.
Liz
Dysphoric milk Injection reflex.
Guest
Ejection. Relax reflex. What did I say? Injection. I think dysphoric milk ejection reflux is a condition that causes negative emotions to occur in people who breastfeed or pump milk. So Kelly and I are both suffering from it, which is so weird.
Liz
Never had it with any of my children.
Guest
Google says it's a rare condition and they don't know a ton about it.
Liz
9.4.
Guest
Which is why I think it's so crazy that we both have it.
Liz
So if basically like whenever we. We nurse or whenever we let down, I get a panic attack. Like I'm saying, like, shortness of breath. And I will go from like being a happy mood to being absolutely, like earth shattering around me. Depression, anxiety. And it gets worse as the day goes on to the point where, like, I've had to drop the five, six o'clock feed because I simply, like, it is such a. I was dreading it. I was like, to the point where, like, I didn't want to nurse. So I was like pushing Libby a little bit, being like, okay, I'll feed you in a second. Like, I have to cook dinner because then I can't really come back from this. And I would say, like, once I'm done nursing, it takes about 15 minutes for it to like, come, like, for it to go away. Do you kind of agree?
Guest
Yeah, it's not, it's not that Immediate.
Liz
It's not as soon as she stops, as soon as it starts, it happens. But then it's like a slow climb back up. It's, it's, it's completely turning my world upside down. And truthfully, it's going to probably cut my breastfeeding journey shorter than I would like because I'm not sure I can do it.
Guest
Here's some things that I've learned from about it. I agree. Mine also happens in the evenings. I start to. I feel like, sick. And also I just have like very. I just get kind of depressed. But I've learned, I've heard that it's supposed. It can sometimes let up around three months. Sometimes it goes until you're done breastfeeding. They really don't have a lot of information on it, but sometimes it can get better after three months. So I'm really hoping that we are just like in the worst of it right now and we're just going to turn a corner within.
Liz
Yeah.
Guest
By the end of the year. Is my hope.
Liz
Okay. Yeah.
Guest
But, yeah, I mean, it is when it, when I start to feel that way every single time I feel that I start nursing her and I feel that way, I'm like, I can't do this anymore. I have to stop breastfeeding. And then. And it's over. I'm like, you know what? Breastfeeding is not that bad.
Liz
Yeah, no, I agree. And I, I just.
Guest
Then you get in and you're like, I cannot do this.
Liz
I know, I know. I did start doing one. I did, I did cut my evening feed. And I saw those on my stories. But I just want to say it again here, because I always tell this to moms who are considering adding formula and considering supplementing, because I don't think supplementing gets enough of a discussion. And I feel like there's not enough even resources on, like to teach people how to supplement. And I'm not even that person to teach you because I'm not an expert. But I always say that giving my kids formula have given them more breast milk, not less. And I think in a way you can apply that to like, a lot of things in your life. But because I supplement, I will breastfeed Libby for longer, like 100. The fact that I cut out that evening feed, I will make it more. I will make it longer than I would have if I didn't do anything at all. So anyway, enough about that. But that's what's going on with us. And it is wild that we're both experience experiencing it.
Guest
Yeah. Yeah.
Liz
Like, weird. So, okay, now it's time for last three transactions where we share our recent bank account subtraction. And. Hey. Oh, we had a big old. I actually did. Very good. Because I bought a good combination. I got things that I've been wanting that I got on sale, and I got stuff that I was planning on buying, stocked up on that were on sale. Win, win. A win is a win.
Guest
A winner is a win.
Liz
First thing I bought. I'm kind of obsessed with these. Have you ever had these built puff bars?
Guest
No.
Liz
Okay. It is the best. It says the best tin protein bar ever. I kind of agree. It's called Built Puff, and they were on a Black Friday deal. They are expensive. A pack of 12 on sale is 23. So you're talking $2 a pop.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
Which that feels like. But also, protein bars are expensive, right?
Guest
That's not. That's, like, pretty standard for a protein bar.
Liz
I feel like it's 17 grams of protein, 140 calories, which I like that ratio because I've tried to do, like, the bigger. Like, the 25 grams of proteins, and, like, I can't choke those down. Like, they're just not good enough. These are delicious. It tastes like a marshmallow. It's a. It's like a marshmallow filling.
Guest
Show me a photo.
Liz
I'm trying to see if they have.
Guest
One open or just show me the packaging. Maybe. I've seen smaller.
Liz
Sam is always eating them. Smaller Sam. PCOS is always munching on puff bars.
Guest
No, I've never seen, but it's really good.
Liz
Okay. Anyway, Elizabeth, like, insane. So I bought them on Amazon because they were on Black Friday deal for 20 off. Like, you should probably. If you wanted to try, like, you. You can try one of mine because they are freaking good.
Guest
Okay. I will have to invest something that I recently bought. I bought it for Sloan for Christmas, and it is a black and white contrast book. But it's not just any black and white contrast book. It is by Tabitha Page. Look up Tabitha Page on Amazon. Look up her books. They are the most beautiful illustration books. And they're just like. If you want to be like, kind of like a. An aesthetic mom in some facet of your life. Like, get the Tabitha Page books I'm getting. I got one for James as well. Like a first words. And I got her a black and white one. They're just beautiful books.
Liz
You got this tummy time one for Sloan.
Guest
Yes. Yeah. With the zebra on the front. Wow.
Liz
They are gorgeous. How did you.
Guest
I Know, they're gorgeous. I saw it at the. The Magic House actually. They had some books and like the children, like the under 24 month area. And it just. It took me. It took me. I opened it up and I was like, this is beautiful.
Liz
I like that for you.
Guest
Yeah. So I got that for salon.
Liz
I'm looking into these.
Guest
Yes.
Liz
Okay. My next thing is I bought. Holy cow. Something life changing. Wish I would have bought it years ago. Saw it online for years. Always thought that seems silly. I don't need that. Dead wrong. What do we even call these? Fleece line tights that make it look like they're opaque.
Guest
Okay.
Liz
Or not opaque. Sheer.
Guest
I want to. I want to buy these. They're good.
Liz
I'm gonna send you this exact Amazon link, Elizabeth, because one. What size did I get? They're 30. Okay. You have to buy these. They were so long. They fit great. I got a large. Could have got a medium because I just never know on Amazon. I'm just trying. And with a tight, like, I'm sizing up. Shouldn't have.
Guest
Okay.
Liz
Shouldn't have. And if you guys don't know what I'm talking about. They. They're fleece lined leggings, but they look like you have a sheer tight on, so they're so cute to wear with, like a black dress. Like leather shorts. Like, talk about, like, making your clothes go further. So I bought them. I have a pair of leather shorts that I love, but, you know, it's like, how often can you wear leather shorts? Like a couple times a year. Oh, no. With my fleece line tights. Leather shorts. And they're so warm. Like, I'm just not. I'm too old to be cold. Like, I did that in college. Yeah, I did that in college when I was like, walking to the frat houses without a coat on. Like, I'm past that. I'm a lady now.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
And a sheer tight. A sheer tide is gonna rip and not keep me warm. These give sheer tide vibes and they're cozy as heck.
Guest
Done. I'm in. Are they a legging? They're foot.
Liz
It's. It's footed and it. I like that. Okay. But it. It's so comfort. They're so comfortable.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
It makes me want to get like fleece lined leggings in general because I don't have, like, if we're going to the farm or like, I'm going somewhere active or on a walk, I got my little lines. Like, that's all I've got.
Guest
Yeah. And those are not warm. Warm.
Liz
No, those aren't warm. I need to get, like, a fleece lined legging. Like, these are all the warmest pants. I'm not even being funny. These are probably the warmest pants I have.
Guest
Wow. Okay, I'm done. I'm ordering. Obsessed. Consider it ordered. Well, one of my recent bank account subtractions, I had to order about $2,000 worth of dress, ball, gown, or formal dresses for the Marine Corps Ball, because my cross to bear is being six foot tall and also going to a ball once a year. So I just, like, I always need a long dress. And I have not been the same size once since we've gone to one of these. So I always need to get a new dress. So I did end up finding an amazing one off of Revolve, and it was $295. So it was expensive, but it was so flattering. It was so comfortable. I'm so happy to have it because now I'm like, if I have to go to a ball and I'm pregnant, this is the dress I'm wearing.
Liz
If I have to go to a.
Guest
Ball and I'm postpartum, this is what I'm wearing. If I lost 30 pounds, that would also look good on me. It just feels like it's a sisterhood of the traveling pants in the sense that it just will fit anyone and look really good on anyone. It was very, very flattering, and I'm, like, very thankful that people being very complimentary to me in the dress. But, like, it wasn't me. It was the dress.
Liz
Well, here's.
Guest
You did not just have a baby two months ago. It's like, no, I did. And you would think that if you. If it wasn't this dress.
Liz
So a couple of things. You go to this Marine Corps ball every year, and the Marine Corps ball, girlies try to wear, like, a black, red, or a blue dress. Like, that's kind of the aesthetic, right? Like, no one's showing up in an orange. You wouldn't wear a black.
Guest
You're trying to match the. You're not trying to clash with the uniform.
Liz
So I feel like you need. If you're gonna go to this every year the rest of your life. Cause Maddie, like. Cause this is what you guys do. You need five dresses on rotation.
Guest
Yeah, Three.
Liz
Three to five. Like, you don't have to buy a new dress every ball.
Guest
No, I've just been a different size every ball. Because the first one, you know, it was my first one, and then I was five months postpartum. Now I'm two months postpartum and it's just.
Liz
But I'm saying you'll wear this dress to another ball.
Guest
I will wear this dress to another ball. Yes.
Liz
And I'm with you. Like, I, I need to go.
Guest
Well, I'm just saying if you have a black tie wedding or somewhere where you need a formal dress, this dress is the buy. If, if you're in, if you're in the postpartum phase, as I am in.
Liz
And see, that's what I like to hear.
Guest
It's the buy.
Liz
Okay. My last is. Oh, so boring. And I mean, oh, so like yawn central. I thought we bought more like fun Black Friday stuff. But I also don't want to talk about the Christmas gifts I bought because it's not Christmas yet, you know, so I can't really like be.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
I bought disposable vinyl gloves for my kitchen for the specific reason of making meatballs. I'm going to batch make meatballs because I have, you know, I don't think we've told people yet, but we. I bought a quarter cow and I've made it. My personality.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
And I would like a cookbook on things to do with ground beef because the way I have. So first of all, I love ground beef. Name something more versatile. Name something more versatile. I'll wait. You can't. Two of my favorite ground beef recipes include meatballs and meatloaf. Two things I don't make on the reg. I buy the Costco meatloaf. I feel as though I could make my own meatloaf. I just think, like, that's something in my wheelhouse. Cause if they can batch make it at Costco, surely I can do it.
Guest
Totally.
Liz
So. But I'm going to make meatballs and I'm going to batch make meatballs. And I know that you've talked about that and I know that you've talked about this in X, Y and Z. But I'm very, very excited. But I wanted to get like gloves because I can't touch cold meat. It's painful for my hands.
Guest
Yes. No, the gloves are. The gloves are such a low lift luxury and I don't want them to be what they are. So it's like when you do have to touch the raw meat and you have those, it's just such a game changer.
Liz
Yeah. And same thing with like I have been making this on repeat, these, this lettuce wrap in a bowl thing. It's a little bits of real food recipe. But I have to chop up chicken Thighs so incredibly small. Like tiny pieces, like a half of inch size. And I'm just manhandling this meat and it's cold and I'm man handling it. I don't want to be doing that. So, yeah, I did buy some kitchen disposable gloves. I know, disposable. I'm sorry, you guys. I'm sorry. I'm only human.
Guest
It's okay. Call. I don't think anyone's going to be upset with you for using.
Liz
Well, I got a lot of flack because on my Instagram, because I shared these like disposable plastic cups with lids that you can buy on Amazon. And let me be clear, I'm not using them on the reg. But have you ever tried to clean out smoothie that's been baked onto a cup? Like, I was leaving and I wanted to bring my smoothie with me.
Guest
What am I doing? If it's baked onto a cup, I'm throwing it away. I'm sorry. I'm not. I'm not sitting there. I'm scrubbing. I'm not soaking. Oh, it's in a plastic cup. I'm throwing the plastic cup away. So what would you rather.
Liz
I'm not doing it all the time. I'm not like using them daily. But I was running out the door and I wanted to bring my smoothie and I'm not, I'm not. It's gonna get caked on, so whatever.
Guest
I can't. You got. You got a hate for that.
Liz
Yeah, a lot of hate.
Guest
I just say like, okay, then you go, then guess what? You're not. You. Who sent. Hey, you're not allowed to go to Starbucks. You're literally not allowed to go to Smoothie King ever. Like, you can't go through the drive through.
Liz
I live in a rural area. I don't have the luxury of going to get a smoothie. I have to make my own smoothie.
Guest
Yeah, that's.
Liz
Anyway, what's your. What's your last of your last.
Guest
My last of my last is I ordered the. Okay, so when we went to the Marine Corps Ball, mom watched both my kids for one night. You would have thought I was moving across the country in the way that I had packed so much stuff for her to have them for one night. And also the dogs had to be boarded. And as soon as I'm going through this process, I was like, I need to get those LLB Lands End bags with their names on them. And I almost even ordered one that said dogs on it just so I had because then, you know, you also have to for the dogs. And it's not even just for me. It's to keep everyone else organized. Because, like, I know my system, but not everyone else will. So anyway, I did order the. I got them from L.L. bean.
Liz
No lands. Land's End.
Guest
I got them from L.L. bean. Whoa. They are two. They both sell them. But I had to order another Christmas gift from there too. So that's why I got those. And I got bags that said James and said Sloan. And they have the zipper and they also have the long, long handle. And Land's End doesn't go on sale anymore. You bought the last time they ever went on sale. I swear, cuz I almost bought them then, but I didn't want to buy them before Sloan born. And they don't go on sale anymore.
Liz
No, they'll. Land's End goes on sale because my stockings are on sale. But then they say bags excluded from promotion, which is a slap in the face.
Guest
The bags were not excluded from promotion when you bought them. And now they are.
Liz
I think we sold too many. So good to know. And I have exciting news for you. I'm going to give you my Elizabeth tote.
Guest
Oh, wow. Thank you.
Liz
Because I hate that this has Elizabeth instead of Libby. Yeah, I shouldn't have done that.
Guest
But it's because you didn't know you were a name her Libby.
Liz
I know because we almost did Betsy or Betty. And thank goodness she's such a Libby.
Guest
No, you almost did. You weren't. You were torn between Elizabeth and Virginia at that point.
Liz
No, no. Okay, maybe I was. She's also so not a Ginny. Can you imagine?
Guest
It was such a. She's such a lipster.
Liz
She's such a lipster.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
Fred calls her Debbie.
Guest
Debbie. Debbie. Oh, my gosh. Stop. That's so cute. Debbie.
Liz
Fred's so cute.
Guest

Are you ready for random facts? Oh, info.
Liz
Hold on, hold on. I did not. First of all, people have been writing then, and we have two options for you. And I've already come up with the rest of the slogan. Now it's time for Infotainment, where we share a random fact for your entertainment infotainment system. Information. It's a play on words.
Guest
Okay, I like it.
Liz
Now it's time for Carfax, where we.
Guest
Where we.
Liz
Where we answer a question that you didn't ask. Now, I know what you're thinking. Carfax is good, but also they're not paying, so.
Guest
Feels like I should be getting.
Liz
Yeah, feels like I should. Not going to be. We're trying to run a business here.
Guest
So if Carfax wants to sponsor this segment, we will call it Time for Carfax. If they don't, I'm thinking we have to go with infotainment.
Liz
Yeah.
Guest
Also feels weird. Yeah. Okay, well, this is a point part of the episode where we give you upon random fact.
Liz
I like infotainment, but let us know what you guys want. I mean, we don't know. We can do Carfax, I guess.
Guest
Okay, infotainment. What animal do you think has the world's thickest coat?
Liz
Ooh, I think it's something I wouldn't guess.
Guest
Yes.
Liz
Let's see. Something I wouldn't guess. Define coat. Like fur.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
Could I get this or no, I.
Guest
Don'T think you probably would.
Liz
Okay. Is it fur or feathers?
Guest
It's fur.
Liz
What animal has the thickest coat?
Guest
And it's not a bear.
Liz
How big is it?
Guest
They're not very big. They're like dog size. I've never seen one in person, but they're dog size.
Liz
Arctic fox.
Guest
No. That is a good guess. That is a very good guess. They spend a lot of time in the water.
Liz
An otter.
Guest
Yes. The otter has the world's thickest coat.
Liz
Go, otter, go.
Guest
Go, otter, go. I love you. Like, no otter.
Liz
Any other, like, things about it?
Guest
No, it's just kind of like, you know, Gemini's like. I'd have to, like, read the article.
Liz
No, we don't just do that. But we are going to be so lit for our next trivia night, you guys.
Guest
Don't you think we're going to be so lit? Although I do think I need to fact check some of these because some of these I'm like, that can't be true.
Liz
Well, did you know that a pig is the world's third smartest animal?
Guest
I think we talked about this.
Liz
Yeah. They have the intelligence of a three year old. And my pigs are doing so good. I love them so much.
Guest
What is the smartest animal?
Liz
And so let me tell you something. For every plastic cup that I throw away, all my vegetable scraps go to my pigs.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
Which then turn into pork for my family. So who's greener?
Guest
Who's greener?
Liz
Who's greener? I'm doing my own chickens. I'm feeding my pigs.
Guest
You got your own eggs? Like, come on.
Liz
We got our own eggs.
Guest
You can afford to have your plastic cup. That's a good idea.
Liz
I don't feel good about it either. Like, I had. I have paws.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
Regardless.
Guest
What other animals are smarter than pigs? What other animals?
Liz
Oh, I believe it's dolphins and apes.
Guest
Okay.
Liz
But I can tell you that really quick. World. Let's just. I think that's a fact we could all know, don't you think?
Guest
I think so. I kind of just like want to know the top five.
Liz
Oh, see, you know, you gotta just. I don't. I agree with you. I don't know where I'm getting this information from. Number one is a chimpanzee.
Guest
That tracks.
Liz
Number two is a dolphin.
Guest
Okay.
Liz
Oh, this is pigs at seven. This list, humans, chimpanzees. Three is dolphin, four is orangutan, five is elephant, six is crows. Sevens are pigs.
Guest
Okay. Well, still, you know, that's pretty high for a pig. I feel like pigs get a bad, bad reputation.
Liz
Pigs get such a bad rep and Everyone thinks, like, they're so gross. I'm sorry. Our pig pen, they're, like, basically pyramid. They poop in the same spot. Like, they're clean.
Guest
Justice for pigs.
Liz
Justice for pigs. Okay, Liz, well, shall we move on to industry news where I spill the hot tea going on the auto industry.
Guest
Yes.
Liz
Okay, we have to talk about Jaguar. Like, I've been dying to talk about this with you, so. Yeah, let's review. Everyone go to Jaguars, Instagram. Like, just unless you're driving, but if you're not, do this with us together. Because at the time of this recording, they have four posts. They. They did the thing where, like, they delete everything, which I don't. I guess, like, they do it to make a statement, but it also feels like, where's your brand history? Jaguar people are riled up about this. I don't think I would have been as riled up unless everyone else was. But I just also don't know. I, like, wasn't. Jaguar wasn't something on my radar. Like, I don't even think I've ever even reviewed a Jaguar because one. They're just, like, impossible to find. They sold 7,000 in the United States last year, but they didn't sell any.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
Which I don't know why. And Jaguar also is owned by Range Rover. Land Rover. Like, that's their, like, parent company. Okay. That's why you always see, like, Jaguar, Land Rover stores together. But I find it interesting. But I feel like we all know the word, like, oh, Jaguar. Like, it's. It's a luxury car. Like, we've all heard of them. Where. I feel like the Infinity.
Guest
I feel like it's.
Liz
To me, it feels just as well known as, like, Infinity or Buick.
Guest
Yeah, yeah. Everyone's heard of Jaguar. I couldn't name a Jaguar because you name. I don't.
Liz
Could you maybe, like, before the car run really started, like, as a layperson.
Guest
Yeah, maybe not.
Liz
And, like, they had the f pace and, like, I don't know, like, people. I think they had a really loyal following. They've been struggling. Everyone just kind of thought they were going to, like, go bankrupt. And, like, I think this is their Hail Mary last shot. So they deleted their Instagram and they posted this very weird, like, futuristic, like, space video of all these, like, characters dressed in these, like, crazy clothing. And they're saying, like, create exuberant copy. Nothing. Like, live vivid. And it. It delete ordinary. Like, it's just very. It's so. It's like. It's unoriginal in the sense where it's like they're trying so hard to do something different.
Guest
Yeah. And there's not a. For. For the reference. There's not a car in this video either.
Liz
Oh, you know what?
Guest
People walking around. What?
Liz
This episode comes out December 3rd.
Guest
Okay. Yeah.
Liz
December 2nd, they're announcing everything.
Guest
Okay, well, we'll see.
Liz
We'll see.
Kelly
Anyway.
Liz
Jaguar, I'm a little nervous about you, babe. I'm a little nervous. Also, you didn't invite us to the reveal, so we won't be covered. No, we will be, but from afar.
Guest
Yeah, everyone seems to be very upset about it. Like, it's to their credit. They are making a lot of headlines.
Liz
Well, then there's this funny video going around being like, if Jaguar did this, it'd be the greatest marketing campaign of all time. And yeah, it's that same video of like these crazy characters, but then like a giant Jaguar comes and attacks all of them. It's like, no, you're stupid. We're Jaguar. It's funny. It's a good idea. It's not.
Guest
It's a good.
Liz
It's not too late.
Guest
It's not too late.
Liz
But, like, I just don't. I don't have the appetite for another, like, futuristic car that's like open air concepts, so unoriginal. Like, I just. Everyone's trying so hard to be different where no one's different and they're.
Guest
They're trying to be different.
Liz
Kind of a good segue to our next story, which is all about the Hyundai Ionic 9.
Guest
What I do, I do want to say one thing, because this is a Forbes article that says, Jaguar rebrand is absolutely genius. Here's why. And now I kind of want to read why they think it's genius.
Liz
You know, I don't. The thing is, I don't know, I'm not a marketer. Like, and I think that's a real skill. Yeah, I. I think there's. I don't think you were. I think there's a. People who are a lot smarter than I. So I think this. I don't know if this wouldn't work out for them or not. And I think it's so funny. Everyone's always like, if I was considering a Jaguar, I'm not. Now it's like, calm down. Like, we don't even. Like, first of all, you weren't considering one. You were never gonna buy one, and now they're the name on your lips. It's kind of like going back to the age old saying, like, no press is bad press. And I think that kind of went away when we like when Cancel culture was kind of at its peak because then they were like, there was bad press. But now I think people are kind of over cancel culture. And now I think we're back to. No, all press is good press.
Guest
That's. And that's kind of like, I'm kind of like briefly summer, like looking at Forbes article. That's kind of like what they're like saying is people are talking about it.
Liz
People are talking about it. I just. And like the photos they're showing. Like, I just, I don't, I don't have the appetite for like a cyber truck esque thing. I'm sure they're gonna come back with all EVs. Like, I'm just, I'm bored. I want something new. I want something original. Like, I just want new things. That's.
Guest
Well, that's what they are. That is what they are claiming to be bringing copy. Nothing live. Exuberant. Whatever exuberant means. So they will see.
Liz
Okay, our next story. And this is actually kind of people doing something different. So Hyundai released their Ionic 5, which is like the Kia version of the EV9. Sorry, Ionic 9 is what it's called. 9 9. Very easy to remember. I want to be clear. I love Hyundai. I love Hyundai's interior. I think that no one designs interior cars like Hyundai. The Ionic 9, to its credit is different looking. I find it to be incredibly ugly. Go look at a picture.
Guest
Yeah, I need to review.
Liz
It got released at the LA Auto show and it looks like a minivan.
Guest
It's giving. It's giving carnival, right? Actually, like if they could figure out a way to put sliding doors on that, it would be a very good looking minivan. Imo.
Liz
Imo, I agreed. I don't know. Let me pull up the. Hold on. I had this article I wanted to read. We did get invited to this, to this event. Just so you know, I like to always like shout out the people who care about our opinion. Okay. And first of all, the Kia EV9 is actually doing really well as far as which I think I'm seeing them on the road. I'm talking to people who have them. Like, people are actually really liking that car. So the 2025 Hyundai, I think 9 arrives looking to offer an electric alternative to Hyundai's popular Palisade. The Ionic is slightly larger than the Palisade with a wheelbase that stretches nine inches longer than the Palisade, which. It looks longer.
Guest
It looks longer. It does.
Liz
The interior can have six or seven seat Configurations by offering a bench or captain's chair. So there's only two seats in the third row, which, you know, we prefer. It's got, you know, all the good Hyundai tech, the curved screens, the blind spot cameras, the all electric 335 miles of range. We'll see. We'll see. I mean, I'm here for, I'm here for a three row SUV for families that's electric. Like, I want to make that clear.
Guest
Yes, I do. I do think that them releasing the, the Santa Fe and now this, like they. Now I kind of feel like we can see where Hyundai is trying to take the brand. Yeah. Because now these both look kind of similar. Whereas before the Santa Fe was like, what? There's nothing else like it. They could be. They're in the same family.
Liz
I totally agree with you. I totally agree. Yeah, I agree with that. And I think we're also like, I think we have a little bit more. Everything is less jarring than the cyber truck. Do you know what I mean?
Guest
Yeah, that's true.
Liz
So this is crazy. But it's not as crazy as what the cybertruck looks like. It's kind of giving like Volvo van. I don't know. I. I'm curious to play with being 9 inches longer. Like, I want to see what that means. That's significant because it doesn't look like the photos don't. It doesn't seem to have that much bigger of a trunk. So I'm just like. So is it all in the hood? Like, is it? Not really? Because you got to be careful when they say nine inches longer because that could mean nothing. That can. That, that could not mean an inch more of leg room. You kind of just gotta, gotta get in there and play with it a little bit. But I don't know. We'll see. We'll see. I'm going to the. I'm planning on going to the Chicago Auto show. So I didn't tell you that yet, but I'm playing February.
Guest
Okay.
Liz
You don't have to go.
Guest
Okay, Cal, are you ready for Dish the drive thru where we give you an easy dinner recipe to mix it up to get you out of your dinner rut.
Liz
I am. I have one. Do you have one?
Guest
No.
Liz
Oh, okay, then I have one. So I used my cube steak. Have you ever heard of cube steak? No, it's not cubes of steak. That's a misconception. It's tenderized round steak. So it's a tough cut of meat that the butcher like tenderizes. So it Kind of looks so it cooks better. And I have heard of the term chicken fried steak. Have you ever heard of that term?
Guest
I have, yes.
Liz
That's what I made with my cube steak. And it was really good.
Guest
What? Okay, so walk me through.
Liz
You basically, like, dredge it. Like, I thought, first of all, guess who's recipe? Guess who had a chicken fried steak recipe? Of course.
Guest
Who.
Liz
Who's making chicken fried steak for her? Cowboy.
Guest
Oh, Ballerini.
Liz
No, pioneer woman.
Guest
Oh, pioneer woman.
Liz
So, you know, it's good. Basically, it's dishes and it's getting the kitchen messy, but you'd basically just dredge it and then you fry it like in a shallow pan.
Guest
What's dredge it mean?
Liz
With flour and egg. Flour and egg mixture. And then you fry. I did it in my cast iron, fried it. Then you make a gravy out of the pan sauce.
Guest
Okay. And it was good.
Liz
Yeah, it honestly was. It honestly was. It's not giving like a weeknight meal because it's a to do. To me, though, I've never fried chicken. That just sounds like something I don't think I ever will. Fried chicken. This is probably the closest I'll get to frying something in my kitchen. So from that aspect, I enjoyed it. And it was a really good way to use up the cube steak, which is a cheaper cut of meat. You can also make Salisbury steak with it, which I might do because I have more cube steak. So I might try that also. But, yeah, that's me. So now I'm very excited because now I finished my milk crate of beef and now I get to go on to the next one. So there's steaks and roasts and burger patties.
Guest
Well, you really left that for the end.
Liz
Well, yeah, but that. That's Tyler's point. So, like.
Guest
No, I understand Tyler's point. I know, but it's just. Yeah.
Liz
We've told the people, though, like, he makes me finish a milk crate before I gotta go on to the next milk crate.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
And here's.
Guest
I have a question. Do you think it was good because it was good, or do you think it was good because you were excited to get onto the next milk crate?
Liz
I think it was good. I don't. Like the effort was tough, though. Not the effort, but, like, you know, the steaks are. Steaks are just. We're grilling steaks.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
This was like a way to use up a cheaper cut of meat. And I think it. I think it was. It was different. It was different.
Guest
Okay.
Liz
I think I'll make it once or twice a year. Like, it's not going to be like a regular thing, but fun to try something new. But here's what I had. So I have a pig milk crate and I have a beef milk crate that I have to finish. I had pork jowls in the pig.
Guest
I.
Liz
And I had cube steak in the beef. Tough.
Guest
What do you do with jowls?
Liz
It's like a really fatty bacon. So I actually cut it up to very small pieces and like, I kind of picked through a little bit and then I sauteed it in a pan with mushrooms. And then I did pasta and heavy cream and did like a little carbonara.
Guest
Got it.
Liz
It was actually. First of all, it was actually delicious. Yeah, it was actually delicious.
Guest
But that's a good idea.
Liz
I'm excited to now get to my pork. I've got bacon, I've got pork chops. It's going to be a good. I. I cleaned it out and this is kind of what I'm doing. I'm still trying to work through some things. Oh, I can't tell you how much my chicken pot pies have come in handy.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
I only have 2th August meals left, but I kind of need to use them up because I don't. I think they're going to be. They're going to start probably to go downhill. Three months.
Guest
Yeah, I'm done. I've used them.
Liz
But I. That was really productive.
Guest
Yeah, sounds like it.
Liz
The only thing I regret about our Thogus journey is I wish I would have taken a little bit more time to make the pies. The chicken pot pies look a little prettier because they were. There were several instances where I wanted to gift one to somebody or like, you know, bring a meal to someone who just had a baby. And they were so. The pie crust was so, like, piecemeal together that I simply, like, couldn't drop it off at somebody's house.
Guest
Yeah. And maybe that's a lesson learned.
Liz
Maybe the answer is next time we just do ziti.
Guest
Yeah.
Liz
Because I don't think 6ZDs wouldn't have gone to waste either, let me tell you that.
Guest
Yeah. But I'm over. I really can't have ZD for a while now. I'm actually kind of burnt out on it.
Liz
Okay. Okay.
Guest
Okay. Cal. Well, since we didn't have a Thanksgiving episode, we didn't really, like, wrap up Blake's Besties because we kind of like last minute realized we could not get a Thanksgiving episode recorded. So sorry we didn't have One hope you enjoyed the holiday. And that was the last episode of November. So we're not going to read any Blake's Besties today, but we do just, like, want to take a moment to thank everyone for writing in and sending us your stories. They all were read by our assistant, and also Kelly and I, we made sure to at least read them all because unfortunately, we couldn't read them all on the podcast. So thank you so much for taking the time to share your story. We're deeply sorry for your loss, and thank you to the carpool listeners who allowed us to share this, share the stories, and to listen and to be behind it. And everyone's been so supportive in the last three years that we've done Blake's Besties.
Liz
So, yeah, I would say, like, just reading the stories. I'm in awe of the strength of some of these mothers and the hope and the love that. That you have and that you shared for your children. And I feel so honored that we could just even be a small part of it. And it's. It's. It's. It's difficult. I think it's not difficult, but it was challenging to even, like, try to understand or. Let me say this, it's impossible to put myself in the shoes of some of these women because I've never experienced it. But reading, just reading the stories, I can't tell you, like, how inspired I am by. By the love that you have for your children. So I love doing Blake's Messies. Like, it's. It's just, you know, one of the ways that we like to use our platform to, like, amplify voices that otherwise wouldn't have been. So, yeah. Thank you for making it a great. Thank you for everyone for participating. We're going to do it again next October. We don't have to push to November. I'm not planning on having a baby that time. So we'll be on maternity leave.
Guest
Yes, exactly. We're taking a break. So thank you so much. And that's gonna be our episode, guys. So we hope you have a great rest year or great Tuesday. Happy December. And we'll talk to you on Thursday.
Liz
See ya. Thank you for listening to the carpool podcast with Kelly and Liz. Make sure you're subscribed so you never miss an episode. And if you enjoyed riding with us, tell everybody you know there's room in the car for everyone.
