I am so honored to welcome back someone who truly needs no introduction, but deserves one every single time. Gary Zukov. Gary is a spiritual pioneer, a master teacher, the author of many best selling books including the Seed of the Soul, co founder of the Seed of the Soul Institute, the host of the Gary Zukov Deep Cast, and one of the clearest voices when it comes to understanding why we're here and how we're meant to live. We had a beautiful episode with him a few years ago, and to this day I still quote him from that conversation. But today we're going deep into what Gary calls authentic power. The shift from fear based living to soul aligned living, and why humanity is in the middle of an unprecedented evolution in consciousness. We also talk about love versus fear, spiritual partnership, and how every single moment is an invitation for spiritual growth. Listening to Gary talk is like listening to music. He's so full of rich grounding insights and this conversation is such a soul recalibration, I can't wait for you to hear it. So without further ado, please welcome the one and only Gary Zhukov.
Gary, welcome back. Thank you so much for making the time to share your heart with us. Thanks for coming back.
Gary Zukov
You're welcome, Kathy. It's lovely to be on your podcast again.
Kathy Heller
Well, you've done thousands of interviews and you always bring tremendous value and today I want to focus on three different topics and we could literally talk about these topics for thousands of hours. And you do, and you have. And so this will just be a delicious sort of appetizer. And if people want to go deeper, there's. We'll send them right to all the places where they can soak up all the wisdom. Let's talk about one of these three topics. Let's talk about authentic power. Let's talk about what those two words mean when you put them together. What does that really mean? How should we lean into that concept?
Gary Zukov
It's a new consciousness, authentic power that only is meaningful to about half of the human population. Now we are in the midst of a transformation in human consciousness itself that is epic and it's unprecedented. This has never happened before. It's happening very fast, within three generations. And one and a half of them are already here. That's the millennials in Gen Z. By the end of this century, everyone will have the new consciousness. The old consciousness was limited to the five senses. If something could not be detected by one or more of them, it was considered imagination or fantasy. The new consciousness is not limited to the five senses. That means we are beginning to experience some of the processes of non physical reality. The old consciousness understood power as ability to manipulate and control. If you had more of it, you were more powerful. That's external power. External power is not only obsolete now, it's toxic. It's our poison. It used to be our good medicine. Now it prevents our evolution and threatens our survival. The new understanding of power is alignment of your personality with your soul. Soul didn't even exist and doesn't exist from the perceptions of the five senses. So I'll ask you and our listeners, do you feel that you're more than a mind and a body? Do you, Kathy? Yes, of course you do, because you have the new consciousness and so do most of the people that are listening. If they're listening to you, they all do. If they had the old consciousness and I asked that same question, they would say what else is there? And they'd say it in good faith because they are limited in their perceptions more than those who have multi sensory perception. The new consciousness and those who have the new consciousness are not superior to those who are still confined to the old consciousness. It's just a temporary ebb and flow in evolution. But we have the new consciousness and that's what I'm discussing from the new consciousness. There is a difference between the old power and the new. And that brings me back to your question. What is authentic power? Authentic power, real power is Alignment of your personality with your soul. In other words, you might say, you can say it is the alignment of the mortal part of your personality with the immortal part of your personality. And its intentions are harmony, cooperation, sharing and reverence for life.
Kathy Heller
It's so beautiful and it's. It's so riveting. You know, it's interesting. I was having a conversation with a friend of mine who's quite wise about this, and I said something to her about how it feels like we're in this period of expansion. And she said, what's really, really powerful to think about is that we've actually been here, like thousands of years ago. You know, the concepts that you just talked about. If you think about some of the things that Ram Dass talked about, if you think of some of the things that Kabbalah talks about, I mean, thousands of years ago, the things you said actually were. These were things that people put into our consciousness years ago, and we lost. We sort of lost our way. So it's interesting to think that there was actually a time where people on this planet were conceiving of how to perceive something so beyond this world. And then there was periods of time where it was so lost. Right. And I think that it's such a powerful thing to remember what actually we have the capacity to perceive.
Gary Zukov
Ram Dass is a dear friend, not my teacher. But because I love him so much, I suppose he is my teacher, as are all the people that I love so much. I'm talking about now, 2026, halfway between 1987 and a generation or three generations. And this is new. What is new? Not all of the aspects of the new consciousness, such as reincarnation, but the reality that our entire human species is acquiring a new consciousness as one in a very short period of time. And we are waking up in a learning environment, let's call it the Earth School, an environment of time and space and matter and duality. And in that Earth School, the duality is primary. In other words, this is a domain of duality. And duality requires choice. For every one thing, there is the opposite. Big, little, night, day, male, female. The fundamental duality that can't get any more basic, duality in the Earth School is love and fear. The opposite of love is not hate. It's fear. And all of the ways that we experience fear, such as anger, jealousy, resentment, superiority, inferiority, competitiveness, overwhelm. And we experience love as gratitude, appreciation, caring, contentment, patience, awe of the universe. Authentic power is the ability to distinguish within yourself between love and fear. And choose love. No matter what's happening inside of you or outside of you, none of this was possible to five sensory humans. That's why I bring your attention and the attention of our listeners to now. Because this is what counts and will always count. Are you acting from love or from fear? There's no right or wrong to this, but there are consequences. For example, if you speak or act with love, that quality of consciousness infuses your words and your deeds and it creates consequences. And those consequences are constructive, healthy, blissful, creative, expanding, everything open and vital. If you speak or act from fear, you create the opposite. You create consequences that are destructive, unhealthy, closed, limited. So it's a very good idea to know when you speak or act, what energy you're speaking from and acting from. Because you are creating the consequences that you are going to experience in your life. Not because creating with love is right and creating with fear is wrong. Not because creating with love brings you reward and creating with fear punishes you. Those are not the case. The universe doesn't think in terms of punishment, reward. It thinks more in terms, if you could say, it thinks at all in terms of limitation and opportunity. Or it thinks in terms of cause and effect. For every cause there's an effect and every effect has a cause. And that's what I've been talking about. So if you're aware of the cause, and the cause is always an intention that you hold, an energy that you're speaking from or acting from, then if you're aware of the difference between these, you can create positive consequences in your life. The choice between fear and love is not the choice between right and wrong, good or bad, should or should not. It's the choice between the consequences that you're going to create and you're going to experience. In other words, this is mastery. Authentic power is love. There's no greater power. We're talking about how to create an ongoing, stabilized lifetime of love. That's where the work comes in. Everything that I can and will share with you is so easy to understand. But to apply it is where the work comes in.
Kathy Heller
It's beautiful listening to you speak. It puts everybody like right into flow state. It's just beautiful to listen to you share all of that. Let's talk about what you just said. What's the reason why it's so hard to apply it?
Gary Zukov
The frightened parts of your personality. And this is the new consciousness I'm speaking from. The old consciousness doesn't think that way or look this way. If you're angry it just thinks I'm angry. If I'm happy, it just thinks I'm happy. From the new consciousness, you can see that all of your emotional experiences come from parts of your personality. Some of them originate in fear. I've already been calling them frightened parts. And some originate in love. So when you recognize a frightened part of your personality, you don't have to act on it. You don't have to believe it. Just recognizing it puts you at arm's length from that part of your personality. And you realize you have a choice. You can choose to act from that part of your personality or a loving part. Here's how you create authentic power. It will hardly take any time at all to explain what the process is. First, if you're not sure what your intention is, look inside yourself. Don't look at the world. Don't look outside of you. That's what the old consciousness does, because it feels that the world is the cause of your painful and joyful emotions. It's not. The world activates internal dynamics in you, and they cause your emotions. If you're not sure what your intention is, look inside. Put your attention into your throat, your chest, your solar plexus, and look for physical sensations. Not I feel happy, I feel down, I feel up. But physical sensations like aching, throbbing, stinging, like when you hit your thumb instead of the nail with the hammer, and that hurts like that. Physical sensations. And if you detect uncomfortable or painful physical sensations, then you know that you're in a painful, frightened part of your personality. And if you look at the thoughts that that part is thinking, they'll always be judgmental and critical. For example, I already know this. I don't see why I even have to listen to this, or I'll never understand this. Everyone here is smarter than I am. Or she's so stupid, or I'm so stupid. This is what frightened parts of your personality experience and think. And when you recognize that you can put your attention. Use your willpower to put your attention into a time when you were loved or loving or both. And you knew it. You knew it might have been with a parent, with a child, with a friend. And then allow yourself to return to that time. And then when you're in that time in that energy, then make the decision to act and speak from that energy while you're experiencing the painful physical sensations and the judgmental, critical thoughts of the frightened part of your personality. That's the moment of creating authentic power. That's it. And as you do that again and again, the frightened part of your Personality that you're challenging begins to lose its control over you, and your awareness begins to fill with love. And eventually it becomes love. Now you ask the question, why is it difficult? Because the frightened parts of your personality are magnetically attractive. They want to express themselves. They demand to express themselves. Think of when you're angry. You don't think. I think I'm going to get angry now, and here's what I'm going to do. It grabs you. It takes you. And unless you're aware, you think that that is you, but it's not. Think of jealousy. Oh, that's so painful. Think of any frightened part of your personality and you will be thinking of and remembering a part of your personality that the universe is graciously bringing to your attention as a part of your personality that you need to become intimately aware of and move beyond the control of in order to give the gifts you were born to give. And that's where your joy and your excitement and your fulfillment come. So the fright parts of your personality are not obstacles to your spiritual development. They're your avenues. And whenever one arises for me, I. I say to the universe in myself, I don't put it into the conversation. I say it with all my heart. Thank you. Thank you. It's so painful to live in frightened parts of my personality. And I have for most of my life and still do some of the time. But now I can do something about it. I can create authentic power. And you can too. And there's much more that you can learn about this. You can go to our website, which is seatofthesoul.com it's named after a book, same title, Seat of the Soul. I recommend it to you. It's about this transformation from five sensory consciousness to the new consciousness, multisensory. And we have courses, and we have courses that are based on the book. And you can take the course, or you can read the book or listen to the book and take the course. We do everything we can to support you if you're interested in creating authentic power. And the reason we do that is because this is now required for our evolution. We are transforming from a five sensory species that evolves by surviving and that survives by pursuing external power, manipulation and control into a multisensory species that evolves by growing spiritually, and it grows spiritually by creating authentic power.
Kathy Heller
So beautiful. And it really hits at the core of what everyone can relate to. We've all had that experience where we are, on some level, aware that we are frightened. And now we've Gotten off track. And it's so the way you describe it and the way that you allow everybody to really witness what's happening unconsciously and consciously in those moments and where we can take our agency back is everything. It will change everything.
Gary Zukov
You will change everything, Kathy. You will change everything in your life. If you're trying to change everything in the world, you're pursuing external power. If you're trying to change someone else, you're pursuing external power. And that now creates only violence and destruction. But you will change everything if you choose in yourself. And here's why that is so exciting. There is an uncrossable barrier in the old consciousness between in here and out there. And from that perspective, it's ridiculous to think that you can change the world by changing yourself, because it's out there. There's a billion people who don't think the way you do. And you're in here, and you're just one. That barrier is not a part of the new consciousness. The in here and the out here don't exist anymore. There is no way that you can change the world without changing yourself. Because as you begin to create authentic power, which means to be able to distinguish love from fear in yourself, you begin to recognize that the love and the fear in the world that you want to affect are the same. Love and fear in you. Not like it, not sort of like it, the same. So you can change it where you've got traction in you. And that's what we're talking about. The changes that you make in yourself are not self transformation only. They are world changing. Wow.
Kathy Heller
It's so powerful. One of the things that I wanted to talk to you about, which is such a beautiful offshoot, is the idea and the, the way that you've been teaching people how to have spiritual partnership. And I'm not surprised at all that you have really cultivated the, the path to a spiritual partnership. The language, the way that you lived it yourself. Tell us what that even possibly can look like to have a true spiritual partnership.
Gary Zukov
It's easy. You just create authentic power. And as you create authentic power, you naturally become drawn to people who are doing the same thing. And you can support them. You can't do it for them. No one can create authentic power for you, and you can't create authentic power for someone else, but you can support one another. If, for example, you just got fired from your job, a friend will say, oh, I'm so sorry about that, but I know another company, and they're looking for someone who's just got what you've got, and you're a great girl, you're going to get a job anywhere you want. In other words, they're trying to make frightened part of your personality feel better. But a spiritual partner will say, where are you feeling that? Is that coming from love or coming from fear? What you just said, what's your intention? In other words, they'll help you become aware so that you can use your emotional awareness and responsible choice. That's a choice that creates consequences for which you're willing to assume responsibility. Spiritual partners know that they have souls. They know that the reason they're together has to do with their souls. And they naturally are drawn to each other. And spiritual partnership is a brand new, brand new archetype in the human experience. And it is replacing every other relationship archetype, whether it's marriage, commercial, social. There was no need or even understanding for five sensory humanity, for an archetype of relationship, of partnership between equals for the purpose of spiritual growth. Now it's everything. It's what we long for. We don't say, oh, I long for spiritual growth. What we do is we say, I am so tired of pain. I am so tired of misery. I am so tired of my jealousy, my anger, my inferiority, my superiority. I am so tired of looking at people as objects, and I'm so tired of them looking at me that way. I hurt. Everything about me hurts. And in many cases, that person can say, and I've done everything. I've tried alcohol, I've tried even heroin. You name it, I've tried it. And I hurt. I can't stop hurting. That is when most people will turn to a spiritual path, to a spiritual alternative. You don't need to wait that long. You can do it now. That's what Kathy and I are talking about. You can do it right now.
Kathy Heller
It's huge, what you just said. It's so massive, the idea that this is such a new archetype. And it's absolutely obvious that something about the way most people have done relationships has not been working.
Gary Zukov
It has worked for them. It doesn't work now because we're multi sensory. It has worked. Look at marriage, for example. That's an ancient archetype. It's a natural division of labor that enhances the probability of survival of the marriage participants. Marriage partners are not equal and they don't look at each other as equal. Husbands, like someone husbands, a field. It's a protector, a provider, a wife is property, movable, chattel, multisensory. Humans don't see themselves that way anymore or ever. It doesn't apply. They say, that's not who I am. Maybe they get married because that's the accepted convention and that's their way of showing the world that they have a special bond. But the only marriages that now have a future are those that are becoming spiritual partnerships. Partnerships between equals for the purpose of spiritual growth. Marriage partners don't rock the boat. They don't share things that they feel will disrupt their marriage. They don't say. They don't talk about their sexual attractions to someone else. They don't talk about how they feel like they're getting bored with you. They don't rock the boat. Spiritual partners love to swim because they know that these experiences sexual attraction to a stranger, that's a frightened part of your personality. That's a temptation. But as you recognize frightened parts of your personality and loving parts of your personality, you want to cultivate the loving parts because they are your road to where your heart wants to go. And the frightened parts of your personality are your direct part path to where the frightened parts of your personality want to go. And you choose the path you're going to take. Some of those paths are steep, difficult, and sometimes dangerous. And some of those paths are like a walk on a gentle beach. You choose love or fear. Your choice.
Kathy Heller
It's so powerful to hear you say all that because so many people listening, I'm sure myself included, can think of the ways in which we hold back. What would be radically honest or radically brave because we don't want to rock the boat, as you say, Kathy, those.
Gary Zukov
Are frightened parts of your personality that hold back, frightened parts of your personality that don't want to rock the boat. Which means they're attached. Authentic power is the ability to move through the earth school with an empowered heart without attachment to the outcome. Love has no attachments. Fear is attachment. And it's painful.
Kathy Heller
Every time you say anything, every droplet, it's like a salve. It's like a medicine. There's such an awareness, at least for me, I'm sure for many people who are listening right now, that we almost sleepwalk through so much of our time until we recognize just how far away from our soul, how far away from our own alignment we get by just hanging out, as you say in some of these really small frightened parts, rather than every bit of wisdom you just shared, is really bringing us back to how we truly want to perceive and want to live. We want to live so much more alive.
Gary Zukov
It is sleepwalking, yeah, but also the Frightened parts are not little frightened parts, they're big. Everyone is big. Everyone demands that you act on it. And if you don't, you hurt. Every frightened part of your personality pursues external power, wants to change the world, to make itself feel safe and valuable. And in doing that creates only violence and destruction.
Kathy Heller
It gives so much understanding to all of the things that people deal with on a day to day basis in their own families, in their own living rooms, when their own self right. It gives us such a depth of understanding and it's so important that we pursue deeply, really deeply knowing this so that we can live from intention, that we can actually move into, as you say, this authentic, true, powerful life rather than constantly being reactive and constantly living out the groundhog day of this old software program that doesn't even serve us. It's such a waste of our time.
Gary Zukov
It's not a waste of our time. Dear Kathy, nothing is. Anything in the IRF school serves your spiritual development. Everything. You can choose to act from fear, to act in jealousy and hatred and judgment. And there's learning in that path that you've just chosen. Or you can choose to strive to locate those parts of your personality that prevent you from loving, that prevents you from being compassionate, that prevents you from being patient. And there's learning on that path also. You choose the path.
Kathy Heller
It's true. It's really true. I had a great conversation today with my 12 year old daughter and our therapist about how her father, my ex husband, broke his leg trying to learn to ice skate for her. And the therapist said, even though it's painful for my daughter that we separated, there is so much evidence right now that this has actually created a opportunity for my kids to say more of what they need and for him to have an opportunity to see things and grow in ways that he hadn't. And so what might be one perspective of looking at things as so negative is actually something that's really creating such a positive for us. And there's, like you said, there's. We learn from all of it. All of it becomes a way for us to hopefully learn whatever it is that we're meant to learn.
Gary Zukov
You are meant to learn love. And the substance of your spiritual growth is your interactions with others. And you've said something so beautiful and wise just now, not that you haven't before, but you said that as I understood, how you hold something determines how you experience it. Take your husband's broken leg. If you hold that as a disaster. God, how's he going to go to work now? How's he going to drive? Is it on his.
Kathy Heller
The front?
Gary Zukov
He uses the brake. This is a real disaster. It's going to be inconvenient. And that is looking at the circumstance through the lens of fear. When you look at the same circumstance through the lens of love, you see it the way it actually is. It's always never the way it actually is. When you see it through fear, that's a realm of illusion. The circumstance is this. Your husband fell down while wearing some ice skates and broke a leg. And now you can see it for what it actually is, an opportunity to grow spiritually. And it's an entirely different experience, isn't it?
Kathy Heller
Completely.
Gary Zukov
And it doesn't take a broken leg. Every moment, every interaction offers you this same opportunity.
Kathy Heller
It's so beautiful and it's truly riveting to me because it's. Everything you said is so true that the frightened parts of us are looking for power outside of ourselves every time, all the time. And it's exhausting. And when we find the way back into our own agency, it's so liberating. And you're such a master teacher. Listening to you talk, it's like. It's poetry. Every single moment of it, it's poetry. It's really. It's like bathing in beauty.
Right.
And so this is why, as long as you've been channeling and speaking, this is why people have been growing and returning to love.
Gary Zukov
There's an old saying, I just, I just read it yesterday. I think it's old. It sounds old. It said, looking back at the past. Thank God. Looking forward to the future. Trust God. Looking around, you serve God. Looking within, you find God. Well, that sounds so good to do. But there's one big part that's missing in the understanding of most people. They look at themselves as the seeker, the one who's searching. And they look at God or divinity as the sought, the thing that's found. There's no difference. There is no difference. So let me put this in biblical terms since you've referred to the Kabbalah and to Judaism, I think, tell me if this is the Old Testament or the New. But there is a saying that's attributed to divinity or to our. By our. I mean a Western understanding of God. Be still and know that I am. It comes from.
Kathy Heller
It comes from. I mean, it starts in the. Starts in the Torah, but I'm sure they brought it into Christianity. It's both.
Gary Zukov
Yes. Well, now that we're becoming multi sensory, we can see that. And our understanding of Divinity differently. In one of those books or both, we say that our divinity made us in its image, but if you look at it clearly, it's the opposite. We made our divinity in our image.
Kathy Heller
I love the way my rabbi says it. He says you are someone because you're some of the one. We're all one. It's all one. That God is this oneness.
Gary Zukov
Yes.
Kathy Heller
Beautiful. Yeah. It's so powerful. That was actually the concept and work that changed my life, was I lived in Jerusalem for three years after college, and I've been on this path for three decades studying this wisdom. But that was the single reframe that changed my life, was learning that truly, that is the essential essence of what God is, is that it is all oneness. It's not anything other than that.
Gary Zukov
Yes. And you can also eliminate any possible ambiguity by saying that is my essence. That is what I am.
Kathy Heller
Yeah. That's what it is. Yeah.
Gary Zukov
It's not it. It's you. That's what we're talking about. That's what every vehicle for truth will lead you to. Truth is relative. And some truth is absolute. Relative truth is just what's true for you. Absolute truth is true no matter how you look at it. Wherever you are, Karma, for example, that's a truth, an absolute truth. I'm really appreciating this talk, Kathy, because this is the heart of it all. You are the heart of it all. And there will come a time when. Well, we discuss it in other terms. We said, as you create authentic power, as you challenge frightened parts of your personality, not by conflicting with them, but by deciding to move beyond their control, love begins to fill your field of awareness. And then the more you challenge the frightened parts, the more that happens. Until love is your awareness, and you are that. And you are love.
Kathy Heller
So beautiful. I love that you said, what we're here to learn is love. That's such a gorgeous, unbelievable thesis for life.
Gary Zukov
Yes. And the other half of it is you are love.
Kathy Heller
Exactly.
Gary Zukov
The universe is love.
Kathy Heller
It's extraordinary. And, you know, it's like filling up your. Your cup fully. So I just so appreciate it. You mentioned it earlier, but we will put all of those links so that everyone can find and. And continue to learn with you and. And from you and all these. You have such beautiful work and courses and books, and we will put all of that in the show notes. Is there one place where people can go that's an easy place to find everything?
Gary Zukov
Well, I have a deep cast. Some people would call it a podcast, but this is More than a podcast. And I record it every Friday and it's released a month or whenever it's time for it. So I love doing that. I record a couple of Deep cast every week and they're published one a week. The deep cast is simple. I just talk like I'm talking now. And that usually takes 20 minutes, maybe 35 at the most. And I call it a Soul Feast. Then on Friday, the team puts together excerpts from our video library from guest appearances from all the places. I've said something or done something, and they put it together in something that's very short. Maybe five minutes, seven minutes. And I call that a Soul Snack.
Kathy Heller
Soul Snack. I love that so much.
Gary Zukov
So you can have a Soul Feast on Monday and a Soul Snack on Friday and you can watch it in video on YouTube or our website, seatofthesoul.com or you can listen to it everyplace else. So I would say that is a good place to go. And we also have a program called Evening with Gary Zukov, which is essentially the same thing as we're doing now, but people can ask questions. And that's what I love about it.
Kathy Heller
That's amazing. That's just so simple. And that's what everybody really wants. I love that. And I love the feast and the snack and I love that you gave us so much of it today. It's such a blessing. Such a blessing. You are one of the way you put your words together and articulate this wisdom is like one of one. It's really incredible.
Gary Zukov
Thank you very much. Thank you very much. There was a time when I would say, oh, no, they're not my words. They belong to the universe now. I don't do that anymore. I am that. I don't speak about what I know. I don't speak about what I believe. It's not satisfying anymore, right? I speak about. I was going to say what I am, but it's simpler than that. I speak and I'm so happy to be able to share this with you.
Kathy Heller
It's such a gift to share it. It's such a gift because it does so much. It does so much. Thank you. Thank you for being here.
Gary Zukov
Welcome.
Kathy Heller
I love talking with Gary. Okay, here are the takeaways. Number one. Authentic power is alignment of your personality with your soul. Number two. The frightened parts of your personality are not obstacles to your spiritual development. They're your avenues. Number three. The changes that you make in yourself are not self transformation only. They are world changing. Number four. You are meant to learn love. Number five. Every moment, every interaction offers you the opportunity to grow spiritually. I love how this show brings faith, logic and manifestation together and how she explains it all in the easiest ways, sometimes using examples of old movies which I vaguely remember. But I am a huge film buff, especially of older movies. It all just reminds me of what I love and guides me on what I can do. Thank you so much for this. It lights me up so much to read these. So leave a review if you haven't already and you might hear it on a future episode. Host: Cathy Heller
Guest: Gary Zukav (author, spiritual teacher, founder of the Seat of the Soul Institute)
In this profound and heart-centered conversation, Cathy Heller welcomes back spiritual luminary Gary Zukav to explore themes of authentic power, the evolution of human consciousness, and how we can shift from fear-based living to living aligned with our souls.
