Charlie Kirk's running the White House, folks.
Thom Tillis
I want to thank Charlie. He's an incredible guy, his spirit, his love of this country. He's done an amazing job building one of the most powerful youth organizations ever created, Turning Point usa.

I was in San Diego doing events there. We are also in Long beach as well. Lots to cover and I've been just chomping at the bit to be able to get in on this Thom Tillis story. Andrew did a great job filling in yesterday talking about Senator Thom Tillis from North Carolina decided now to oppose Ed Martin as Washington, D.C. u.S. Attorney. So let's set the stage here and set the table. So the D.C. u.S. Attorney is arguably the most important U.S. attorney when it comes to politics. The president, anything that happens in the jurisdiction of Washington, D.C. which is a lot of power broking and a lot of activity, falls under the D.C. u.S. Attorney. Now the Washington, D.C. u.S. Attorney in years past have been enemies of the MAGA movement have been out of control. The D.C. u.S. Matthew Graves, which we'll get back to in a second, was the Architect of the out of control, January 6th behavior. So this is a big one. President Trump put in on a temporary and a provisional basis. Ed Martin. Let me tell you about Ed Martin. Ed Martin is the real deal. Ed Martin is part of the Phyllis Schlafly Coalition. Ed Martin literally ran the Phyllis Schlafly Eagles for years from Missouri. A lawyer and a truly committed patriot. Now, I'll fully acknowledge that President Trump picked someone that was very conservative, very outspoken, not your normal kind of cut D.C. u.S. Attorney type. He's a threat to the unit party in Washington, D.C. because he is willing to push the boundaries of what is normal and acceptable in the best possible way. So Ed Martin, in just his couple of weeks and just with a couple of months of being D.C. u.S. Attorney, has probably been the best performing U.S. attorney that President Trump has put in. Without a doubt. He's actually gotten stuff done. He has reorganized his office, he's fired bad attorneys in the D.C. office. And that is a tough, difficult, very, very, very overwhelming assignment. And Ed Martin has taken it with his head down. Punching, punching, punching. So President Trump, knowing that Ed Martin has been restoring integrity, has decided now to put Ed Martin as the permanent nominee for D.C. u.S. Attorney. Now, Ed Martin is a bulldog, and that is exactly what we need, and that is what President Trump has earned. President Trump was facing 700 years in federal prison. He gets the D.C. u.S. Attorney that he wants. And remember, he did not get the U.S. attorney that he wanted the Senate quietly, without. There was a vote before there was a vote rejected, President Donald Trump's Attorney General's nominee, which of course was Matt Gaetz. So then we got Pam Bundy. Okay, I like Pam, but that wasn't Donald Trump's first choice. So now we go to the D.C. u.S. Attorney. And you would think after President Trump was facing nearly 1,000 years in federal prison, after President Trump has been shot, was spied on by our own intel agencies, you would think that it would be an easy box to check after he won a popular vote and an electoral vote landslide. The first Republican in 20 years to win a popular vote was George W. Bush in 2004. You would think that President Trump would get the benefit of the doubt. And we are told that we control Congress. We are told that we control the House and the Senate. But do we really? So then Thom Tillis, the US Senator from North Carolina who is in cycle right now, comes out and does the following. Let's play cut 224.
Thom Tillis
He is. I don't believe he's being advanced to the markup. And I met with Mr. Martin. He seems like a good man. Most of my concerns related to January 6th. And he built a compelling case on some of the 1512 prosecutions that were probably key to the moment. Bad decisions. But where we probably have a difference is I think anybody that breached the perimeter should have been in prison for some period of time. Whether it's 30 days or three years is debatable. But I have no tolerance for anybody who entered the building on January 6th. And that's probably where most of the friction was. So the difference wasn't that they should be charged charged in my estimation, it's by how much. And I've indicated to the White House I wouldn't support his nomination.
Charlie Kirk
Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. There is a lot of stuff wrong with that. Number one, he is basically saying anyone who breached the perimeter, including Siaka Massaquai, who went into the US Congress for 10 seconds to say a prayer and then left. He's talking about non violent people that need to be thrown in jail. He's talking about grandmas that had U.S. constitutions in their purse holding it up. We're not even talking about the violent folks. We're not talking about the people that smashed windows. We're not talking about the people that hit police officers. You could get a trespassing fine. But Thom Tillis, the reason he's not voting for Ed Martin is the fact that he wants to see prison time for people that, quote, breached the perimeter even though in certain circumstances police held open the doors. Now, Thom Tillis and I actually agree on one thing. We agree on something fundamental and it needs to be repeated. I want to see the North Carolina Senate seat remain Republican. It's in cycle. Former governor of North Carolina and very popular Democrat Roy Cooper is thinking about running for the North Carolina Senate seat, which would be a very difficult task for anybody, including Thom Tillis, to go up against. So I have agreement with Thom Tillis. I don't want to lose that Senate seat, be bad. We want President Trump to be able to confirm his nominees. Well. We want President Trump, if there is a Supreme Court justice, to be able to fill it. Easier than not. We do not want to give away Senate seats to Democrats. It is never helpful to do kamikaze missions because it makes you feel good. It is never helpful to go on a suicide pact just to try to teach somebody a lesson. But here is where Tom Tillis is so fundamentally wrong. Beyond that ridiculous clip that you just saw, is that Thom Tillis thinks that by opposing President Trump's nominee for the D.C. u.S. Attorney. He thinks that will improve his electoral chances. It's actually going to do the opposite. And I don't mean just in a primary race, I mean in a general election. What Thom Tillis is doing is he is, he is committing a fatal error. The number one factor in Tillis's reelection is President Trump's approval. And there's a reason why Thom Tillis is 20 points less popular in North Carolina than President Donald Trump. And when Trump's administration looks weak, his approval goes down. So what Thom Tillis and all of these DC Consultants around him say, stand up to Trump. That will improve your chances in North Carolina. And what will happen is that all of a sudden Tom Tillis will run for the Senate and they'll look at the numbers and Thom Tillis might lose. And they'll say, why is it that 500,000 people showed up to vote for Trump and they were nowhere to be found for Thom Tillis? This is why. And this is a broader point that we are going to make this entire hour, which is people ask a lot about the midterms and we just had an amazing investor retreat at Turning Point USA in San Diego and they say, charlie, what is the key to the midterms? And there's a lot of keys, but the most obvious one is that if you cannot even get close to replicating the electorate that won us the election in 2024, a bunch of people are going to stay at home because why reward senators and congressmen that don't do anything? And they don't understand this. They take MAGA for granted. And you should never take your base for granted. It is the number one fatal flaw that you can make in politics. There's been national focus on eating only the healthiest of foods, and that's great news for Balance of Nature. Their method of producing a vibrant nutritional supplement is second to none. While so many others use chemicals and additives. Balance in Nature is made solely from whole food ingredients. While other methods sacrifice nutritional quality for the sake of profits and volume. Balance in Nature's advanced vacuum cold process involves freeze drying the fruits and veggies into a fine powder, helping to retain as much nutritional value as possible. Compared to the other inferior methods which cut corners at your expense. Balance in Nature packs a nutritional punch. And that's the whole reason for taking Balance of Nature. And it gets even worse with the Thom Tillis example. Thom Tillis went out of his way to vote for Merrick Garland. This was Thom Tillis statement when it came to Merrick Garland. Merrick Garland has an outstanding record serving our country and has a deep understanding of the law. His experience reflects his extensive legal knowledge and unbiased application of the law. And his long standing reputation of bipartisanship has earned the respect from both Democrats and Republicans. After talking to him and participating in his confirmation hearing, I have no doubt he will serve our country well. He voted for Merrick Garland. Thom Tillis did. But it gets even worse. And the reason why I think this is emphasizing is that he's not Susan Collins. If this was Susan Collins doing this, I cut her a lot of slack. She represents Maine. Trump didn't win Maine. He won a singular district in Maine. No, Thom Tillis represents himself to the voters in a different way than how he votes. And for that you will receive the greatest criticism. When you represent yourself to your voters one way and you do something the opposite, that is a violation of representative government. It is a breakdown of the consent of the governed. That means you will say one thing to your population and do another. Susan Collins doesn't vote the way we like her to. However, she has voted when we absolutely need her. She is a team player and she doesn't represent herself as a MAGA person. She goes to her voters and says, I'm going to be an open minded independent center right Republican. Fine. Thank you Susan Collins, for giving us another Senate seat. You will not receive criticism on this show. You just won't. But people who will are those that go to their voters and say, I am maga. I am Thom Tillis. I stand with President Trump. I represent the red state of North Carolina. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. And then you go and vote this way. Unacceptable. And it gets even worse than that. Thom Tillis voted for Matthew Graves. So Thom Tillis. This is what is so incomprehensible. Thom Tillis voted for Biden's D.C. u.S. Attorney, but he won't vote for Trump's U.S. attorney. Tillis approved Tony Blinken. He voted for Janet Yellen. He voted for Lloyd Austin. He voted for Gina Raimondo. He voted for Lisa Monaco, the number two at doj. He Voted for Pete Buttigieg and then, of course, Merrick Garland and Matthew Graves. But he won't lift a finger to vote for Ed Martin. And to be honest, before I saw the tape, I thought that Thom Tillis reason he did not vote for Ed Martin would be like, oh, he was too radical because he was part of the Phyllis Schlafly Eagles. Something like, I anticipated that. Or he had some social media posts that I don't like. But the reason he gave was that, oh, I want every single person who breached the perimeter to go to jail from 30 days to three years. I'm sorry, breaching the perimeter, Mr. Tillis, this was not Normandy Beach. The vast majority of people on January 6, the vast majority waltzed in through an open door. Now, if Thom Tillis argument would have been, look, I'm still undecided. I think Ed Martin is a little too relaxed on January 6. It was hard for us. The violent people shouldn't have gotten pardons. But I'm going to try to work through it. That's reasonable. But his argument of all the reasons that you could oppose Ed Martin is that you want to put the. Look, it's a perfect clip. Thank you, guys. Great poll. Thom Tillis argument is all those people who are just walking as if they're trying to board a Delta Airlines flight, that they should all go to jail from 30 days to three years. Look, they're opening the interior of the doors, and I'm not discounting that. Everybody on January 6 acted properly. Of course not. There were some people that acted improperly. But this is Thom Tillis argument. His argument is that I'm going to oppose Ed Martin because he does not publicly say that every one of these people should serve huge life sentences. And then the final and then the most obvious objection that I would then have for Tom Tillis is, why is this at all applicable? They all got pardons. So why is that question even relevant towards his potential DC US Attorneyship? How is that a relevant question? Oh, it's a compass. To show us where he's at. You have to wonder, does Tom Tillis actually want to hold on to his U.S. senate seat? And again, we agree. Thom Tillis and his DC Consultants agree at the Charlie Kirk show, we do not want to hand over a U.S. senate seat. That is bad. No one wants to do that. But that's actually what he's doing. He's actually doing that. We're the ones that are trying to tell him, here's how you keep your Senate seat. You keep your Senate seat by getting the millions of people that only show up for Trump and they will vote for his fighters. And Thom Tillis has given the people in North Carolina no reason to show up for him. Making America Great Again starts with Making America Healthy again. Charlie Kirk here. I lost 40 pounds with the PhD weight loss and nutrition program and two years later I haven't gained a pound back. I started the PhD weight loss program because I need to be healthy to keep up with my crazy schedule. Most people start a weight loss program to get healthier. So why is big Pharma spending millions to convince you to use their weight loss injections that do just the opposite? They have harmful side effects and lifelong dependency. Again, we are still a ways out from the midterms, but people are asking about it all the time. Charlie, midterms. Charlie, the midterms. And I always say we're going to under emphasize the midterms here on this program because the overemphasis on midterm elections prohibits you from governing the way that you should. It disallows you from doing the stuff that the prior voters actually told you what to do or the prior election told you what to do. So I want to deemphasize it because the over fixation of election and midterms and midterms and midterms it is poisonous. We are too hyper midterm politically focused and that is the excuse that everyone in D.C. gives. Well, I can't make tough votes because I got a tough election coming up. You were just given your seat in a mandate and Thom Tillis voted for this guy. He voted for Matthew Graves. He voted for one of Joe Biden's top attack dogs against patriotic Americans. Here is Matthew Graves who Thom Tillis voted for and refused to vote for. Donald Trump's Ed Martin total patriot placard282.

And what happened inside of the building. An important note, when it comes to our prosecutions about those who remained outside the building, we have used our prosecutorial discretion to primarily focus on those who entered the building or those who engaged in violent or corrupt conduct on Capitol grounds. But if a person knowingly entered the restricted area without authorization, they had already committed a federal crime. Make no mistake, thousands of people occupied an area that they were not authorized to be present in in the first place.
Charlie Kirk
I now have a great one liner question that I will use at my final campus tour stop on Friday. I have a great one liner. Oh, thank you, Matthew Graves, and thank you Tom Tillis. And I love questions like this. And I learned this from the great Dennis Prager that we should all pray for. Which is a what is worse question. What is worse? What? Walking into the U.S. capitol building peacefully or coming across the southern border illegally? What is worse? What deserves more scrutiny from our U.S. attorneys? Now, I'm not even saying both are good. That's not the question. You must make moral judgments. That is what politics is about. You must decide where you should focus your attention. When illegals come into this country, they don't stay within the rope lines. They're also not citizens of the country they're coming into. And I'm not making an excuse for people that were violent. That's not the point. That's not what we're talking about here. But I just can't help but think that. Well, Matthew Grapes says they've already committed a crime. Hey, pal, 15 million people are committing a crime of 8 USC 1312 by not notifying the government of their presence here in America. You can look it up. 8 USC 1312. They are currently violating federal law. But Thom Tillis, pal, Matthew Graves created the largest manhunt in federal government history. You would have thought that on January 6, someone who detonated a thermonuclear weapon. Also, when people go into the Capitol, they don't end up having anchor babies or undercutting US wages or going on overstretched US Welfare programs, but illegals do. So according to Thom Tillis and according to Matthew Graves and that whole regime that he supported, those folks that are staying within the rope lines, wearing MAGA hats, taking selfies in the Capitol rotunda, some of which saying prayers with their pocket constitutions, that is worse than Trende Aragua coming across the southern border and squatting on our homeland. You must develop a moral hierarchy. Everyone must. Some things are worse than others. Stealing a pencil from Walgreens is not morally acceptable, but is infinitely better than raping a child. We all know this. It's self evident. But Matthew Graves and Thom Tillis, they would say, well, these people have already committed a crime. Have you ever heard them say that about the 20 to 30 million illegal people here in this country? Have you ever heard them talk about 8 USC, 13, 12, ever? Have they ever used that language? No, but they use it against their own citizens so openly. Yes, you're right, Matthew Graves, hypertechnically, they have a trespassing violation. In fact, if you look at all the left wingers that trespass in Congress, which is basically a weekly or monthly occurrence, from the Students for Justice of Palestine to the pro Hamas crowd to the abortion fanatics When Roe vs Wade was repealed, these people storm Congress all the time and they get trespassing, solicitation, fines. Yes, you use your prosecutorial discretion, thanks to Thom Tillis, to be able to go after Americans and this all segues together. There is going to be again, this is going to be the summary of my midterm coverage for like the next month because I can't stand talking about elections because it makes people paralyzed against legislative action. It makes people all of a sudden in a place of fear. But there will be, and I'm predicting it right now, if Congress does not start acting with force and with vigor and with results, there will be the disappearing MAGA voter. DC consultants are going to wonder what happened? Where did all these folks go? And I'm not trying to make a prediction. I hope I am wrong. But I'm seeing it coming because voters are coming up to me all the time, all the time. And they're saying, I love Trump. See how hard he's fighting. But why would I vote for my local senator again? Here are some of the top races. The top five races are an open Senate seat in Georgia. I'm not open. I'm sorry, that's not correct. It's open because Kemp is not running it. I didn't mean it that way. Incumbent Democrat Senator Jon Ossoff, open Senate seat in Michigan. That's what I meant. Open Senate seat in New Hampshire and then hold Maine and hold North Carolina. We have 53 Senate seats. We should be just fine now. Georgia is going to be tough. Georgia is going to be hard because Kemp is not running. Not a fan of Kemp, but Kemp would have had a much better chance than somebody else. And there won't be national money pouring in. Kemp would have had national money. Shaheen is not running in North New Hampshire. And so it's an open seat. So that image is actually incorrect. It's an old image. But if you guys want to actually expand your power in Washington, D.C. if you want to hold on to power, then you must do what you said you're going to do. And I have a very provocative question that so many of you in this audience are feeling, and I'm trying to bang this over the head of these US Senators. I had a US Senator call me yesterday right after I got on campus at San Francisco State University. Great guy comes on the show. I. I like him. He says, charlie, I don't know, Ed Martin's gonna be hard. I said, do any of your colleagues understand? And let me say this in very simple language that you can relay it. They will cease to be in the majority if they don't do what President Trump requests. And they don't believe that you are a product of your environment. You are. If you're around a bunch of US Senators, you start thinking like them. You start thinking that the American body, politicians, is like the Senate clerks. And I can tell you that even being around the ruling class, as I reported back on Sunday for two hours, you can start to see the allure of how your worldview can be shifted around neatly tailored expert testimonies. And these US Senators fail to recognize that the rank and file of the people of North Carolina, the first time voters that were we helped bring out at Turning Point action of all of our campus events, Thom Tillis, they are not going to show up for you. They just won't. And it's not that they'll even vote for the Democrat. It's that they'll vanish. They'll look at their mail in ballot and say, waste of time. We saw this in the Hegseth fight, in the Tulsi fight, in the Bobby Kennedy fight. Did they learn nothing? And the answer is yes, they learned nothing. And it shouldn't even be that shock to a system. But it is egregious. There is no excuse. I'm sorry? There is no excuse where you go and vote for Biden's D.C. u.S. Attorney and Biden's United States Attorney General, and you will not vote for Trump's U.S. attorney. And the excuse you give is that we didn't give harsh enough prison sentences for people that stayed within the rope lines after the doors are open for them. It's an egregious violation of the social compact, an egregious one. At that point, you can just say to yourself, well, I can't evaluate nominees well, very simple, and I don't say this with any delight, I don't seek this controversy. I want to hold on to the North Carolina Senate seat. I've been pulling for Tom Tillis to find his inner maga. But when someone violates this, you got to call them out. I'm not trying to divide the Republican Party. I'm trying to actually strengthen it. And that is the final point, is the Republican Party actually falls apart. It collapses. And it's a tough moment to say because the midterms that will then be coming and in the future elections, the voters in this audience, they're either gonna launch primary campaigns or they're not gonna vote for you because you took them for granted. The number one rule of politics and Trump did this better than any other leader I think in the last hundred years. I mean, I can't think of any political leader that did this better is he had a base first political strategy. It is against the Karl Robes of the world. He had a base first political strategy and it worked because your base can get bigger. You can get new low prop voters, man. Thom Tillis, I'm begging for you to give Trump voters an excuse to vote for you. But you are actively hostile against us. You've declared war on us. And because of that, the chances of you getting elected in a general election is going down tremendously. It's too bad because you are handing a Senate seat to the Democrats. You are doing this, Thom Tillis. You're doing this to yourself. And with that, you're damaging the country and the Republican conference. You might think you're being all sanctimonious and uppity and a good person, but you are now jeopardizing this hard won Senate seat in North Carolina for being principled. Bunch of garbage. Well, here's the basics. Pakistan is 100% Muslim. Remember, they sheltered bin Laden and have been a very, very sneaky actor. India is mostly Hindu. They don't care for each other much at all. There's a region called the Kashmir that they dispute. There was just a Muslim terrorist attack on tourists there, which Pakistan seems to be linked to. So India is furious. There were air and missile strikes on nine different sites in Pakistan, killing a few dozen people. Reportedly, some airplanes have been lost on both sides. These are big countries. They have more than 1.7 billion people between them and lots of people. That said, very simple. This is not our war. Maybe we slightly favor India because they're retaliating to Islamic terror, but that should go no further than moral support. That is it. This is not our conflict to get involved in. I do not believe this will escalate in any way, shape or form to nuclear power. And look, we hope for negotiations, but this is a great test of whether or not every conflict is America's problem. And both are nuclear powers, by the way. And most people don't know that both Pakistan and India have nuclear weapons, which actually then will decrease the likelihood of any either of either side using nuclear weapons is the fact that both sides have mad mutually assured destruction. Trump said yesterday that India is willing to drop all of its tariffs, by the way, on trade with the United States, which is good for icing out China, because India very well could become the new China. What you're seeing there is demonstrations on the Kashmir border. I think they think these are kind of like two birds peacocking at each other. But instead of two birds, it's like Pakistanis and Indians peacocking at each other. It's very strange. But again, more power to them. They could do whatever they want. And so this is them at the border. They kind of are taunting each other. You actually can go see this live. They have tickets where you can go to the Kashmir border. They actually have arena seating where you can watch this. And they do this like every day at 4 or 5pm where the Pakistani and the Indian armies. This is a visualization of. This is not our culture. This is not our fight. We have nothing to do with this. If they want to go high step and high kick their way into a war, I hope they don't. A lot of innocent people die in war. War is terrible. The only role that we should have is to help negotiations and have moral support. We should not supply armaments. I'm sure Lindsey Graham and John Bolton are already on a plane somewhere to New Delhi. Try to figure out how we can annex Pakistan or try to give F35s. No, no, enough of that. This is not our fight, this is not our region. We hope for a ceasefire. We hope that this does not result in more unnecessary deaths. Ro Khanna was already suggesting that we get involved. These neocons know no limits to our own borders. You know what? We should get involved in the cartels. We should very much get involved in the cartels. We should get involved against the Chinese Communist Party. Not militarily, but by every other mean. Again, I'm just looking at this high stepping stuff. They're still in the 1100s. If this escalates, they'll also pressure us to take refugees. Nope, not gonna happen. Stuff we should get more involved in. Yesterday, in a lesser covered news story, we seized 3 million fentanyl pills from the Sinalo drug cartel yesterday. The largest such seizure in American history. Enough to kill 200 million Americans. That's what we should get involved in. The full force of the government should be in protecting our own citizens. If India and Pakistan want to tragically high step their way into a war, they have the agency to do that. I hope they don't. I pray they don't. We should try to negotiate peace and for a settlement. But that's it. No more than that. That's what America first looks like. We defend our citizens. They want to high step their way into it, that's their prerogative. Thanks so much for listening everybody. Email us. As always, freedomcharliekirk.com thanks so much for listening and God bless. For more on many of these stories.

Summary of "What's Wrong With Thom Tillis?" Episode of The Charlie Kirk Show
Release Date: May 7, 2025
In this episode of The Charlie Kirk Show, host Charlie Kirk scrutinizes North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis's recent political maneuvers, particularly his opposition to President Donald Trump's nominee for the District of Columbia U.S. Attorney, Ed Martin. Kirk argues that Tillis's actions could undermine Trump's movement and negatively impact the Republican Party's prospects in the upcoming midterm elections and beyond. The discussion extends to the broader implications for party strategy, voter engagement, and the importance of aligning with the conservative base.
Charlie Kirk launches the episode by addressing the controversial decision of Senator Thom Tillis to oppose President Trump's nominee, Ed Martin, for the position of D.C. U.S. Attorney. Kirk posits that Tillis's opposition may be an attempt to distance himself from Trump, potentially jeopardizing the Republican Party's performance in future elections.

Senator Thom Tillis's Statement:
Thom Tillis [05:57]: "I have no tolerance for anybody who entered the building on January 6th. And that's probably where most of the friction was."
Kirk critiques this stance, arguing that Tillis's blanket approach unjustly penalizes non-violent participants of the January 6th events. He asserts that Tillis's demand for severe penalties overlooks the nuances of individual actions, thereby alienating moderate voters and undermining the party's judicial appointments.

Charlie Kirk [19:22]: "I have agreement with Thom Tillis. We don't want to lose that Senate seat, be bad. We want President Trump to be able to confirm his nominees."

Kirk predicts that actions undermining Trump’s influence within the party could lead to diminished support among conservative voters, potentially resulting in the loss of crucial Senate seats. He argues that the Republican Party must focus on energizing and retaining its core supporters to ensure success in elections. This approach involves prioritizing the values and concerns of the base over appeasing moderate or swing voters.
Kirk criticizes senators like Tillis for taking positions that stray from the party’s foundational principles, suggesting that such actions dilute the party’s message and weaken its electoral appeal.
