mobile.com hey, it's Carrie. Hey. This week I'm going to do a bit of a review. I'm calling it the AI Primer. I built this episode for the person that is just getting into AI is looking at a tool and wondering what do I do? How do I use it? How do I get value from it? I'm going to give you seven tips that's going to increase your understanding and your confidence so you can use your curiosity today to start getting benefit. Okay? If that sounds interesting to you, stick with me and I'll see you on the other side of the music. Hey there. Welcome to the Amazing Intern, the podcast designed to help take your AI curiosity and turn it into confidence so you can find a nugget of value for your personal or professional needs. My name is Kerry Weston. I'm your host. Welcome. Glad you're here. This episode, I wanted to take a an umbrella look, I guess a big picture look at what I call an AI Primer, a guide to being more productive with AI. And let me set the stage here. There are more and more folks that I'm talking to now that are more aware than ever of people benefiting from or using more tools like Claude Gemini, chatgpt, but not quite sure how to get the value that they're hearing everywh getting, or how to make sense of what they're hearing and trying to get their head around it. So this primer is really a greatest hits, if you will, kind of episode. So what I'm going to do is I've got, I think, seven tips here that will get us up to the point of you being able to do something at your desk today that will be meaningful and valuable to you. Again, my goal is to take your curiosity and turn it into confidence. I want you to be more confident being curious as you move forward with your AI tools, whatever it may be or whatever they may look like. So I'm going to go through these seven pointers, and I'm going to point you to an episode that's in the library that will go deeper on them, right? That will give you additional details on them. So you can dig it if you want. So I'll give you a summary on each. Something to think about, something to focus on. And then, um, if you want to dig in, you can. But my goal with this episode is to have you understand at a level that you can make sense of right now, today, how to approach, how to get value and how to find those nuggets like I referenced that will actually be meaningful to you, right? So you can stop staring at the blinking cursor and stop wondering what everyone's talking about. All right, so let's dig in. I think the first one, this is episode 111. That's the episode I want to point you to. It's going to be. Let's talk about quickly the difference between AI creating something and AI executing something. And what I mean by this one, from the creation point of view, there's a lot of fear, anxiety, misnomers, rumors, right? People sharing that they're scared, fearful of AI making things up, calling something a fact, which isn't extrapolating, just kind of not delivering something you can trust, right? So whether it be writing or imaging or video, we see all these kind of things being happening. Now, that whole AI creating stuff that's fake, not real, untrue, whatever it might be, that's a real fear, and that clouds people's approach to AI. So I put that under the creation arc, AI creating something. For me, I find the real value in AI executing something, doing a task that I can explain to it that I can design and give it to so that it can make my life easier, right? So the creation, making stuff up, whether it's creative or otherwise, or executing which is getting something done that I can define. And so I teach and experience, value myself mostly on the execution side. I want to be able to have it do things for me, right, that I can explain. And if we come at it from the mindset of there's really two sides to AI, there is the creating something that didn't exist beforehand, and then there's the execution side. If we just pay attention to the execution side, we can probably clear away a lot of those anxieties and fears of the something being fake and wrong and untrue and all that kind of stuff. So it just kind of clears our focus, right? And episode 111 is going to take you a little deep into that. The second thing is, once we figure out that we're going to talk about execution and how do we get AI to serve us better, you have to talk about what AI means. And for a lot of folks, technology is intimidating, okay? So when we talk about artificial intelligence, those big words, and they fear, like, they feel like the Terminator and robots and programming and coding, and it gets in the way. So a long time ago, AI for me got shifted to the Amazing Intern, which is why I call the podcast what I call it now, the Amazing Intern. It softens it and it kind of gives you a perspective of approaching this from if you had an intern, if you had a capable, approachable intern that could sit next to your desk and you could direct it, right? It was highly available and ready to serve you, and you could direct it, how could it add value to your day? Well, that's how we look at this, okay, we look at this amazing intern rather than technology, think of it as a delegation tool. Again, back to the execution, which takes us to our third point of we need to learn how to talk to it. So in episode 10, I have mastering prompting. I called it chat GPT prompting, but it's, it's universal. So mastering prompting, which is basically conversation, we need to learn to be detailed, we need to learn to explain ourselves, we need to learn to guide. And not just the Google, I need this. Or what is this? Or give me this, the one sentence, those short, one little punchy sentences that we're used to giving to Google and then searching through the links. This is different. And it leads into what I call conversational technology. Conversational technology is having a two way conversation with a tool. Imagine that having a two way conversation with a computer, right? And episode 85 is going to take you into what I call a four part framework, okay, the four part framework. And it's just a mindset. It's an approach that you want to make sure you're covering as you have those conversations, as you're giving those details to the tool that you're using. Okay, so the four part framework is what are we doing? Why are we doing it? What does success look like if we do it right? And do you have any questions for me? So those are the four types of topics that you want to be thinking about as you're having a conversation, giving direction to and delegating a task to a tool like Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and the like. Okay, what are we doing? Why are we doing it? What does success look like if we're, if we do this right? And then do you have any questions for me? And the fourth one opens up the back and forth, which allows you to see if the information you wanted to share got received properly, if it has an understanding of what you're looking for and you can clarify, go deeper and whatnot. But if you think about combining what we just talked about, the amazing intern learning to talk to it, with his four part framework, it's very similar to if you were to delegate to a human either in your personal, professional life, you'd want to make sure that you are clear, you would want to make sure that they understand why it's important. You'd want to understand what the output should look like from a formatting point of view, or from an understanding point of view, or whatever success looks like for you. And then before you send them off, you'd want to say, hey, do you have any questions? I want to make sure that you've got it right. Which leads us into number five. And I want you to think about this because a lot of the work that folks do do with AI is writing, communicating, okay? Sharing information, whether it be emails, memos or articles, or whether it be technical papers or instructions or proposals, whatever it might be. Getting into a lot of meeting summaries. I've been working with public entities that have to do a lot of meeting summaries. And there's a difference between just summarizing the transcript and having insights or takeaways or having it be meaningful and insightful to the person who's reading it. So understanding the audience is a big gain from an AI tool. And two of the things that I think AI is really strong in is objectivity and empathy. I go into this in episode 60, it's called how I use empathy, but objectivity and empathy. And here's what I mean by this, the ability for you to share with the tool that you're using, who the audience is, the mental position that they're in, you know, what, what are they thinking? Needing worrying about, asking, right? Who are they and what do they need to hear? And how do they need to hear it from you? Okay? The ability of you describing that to the tool gives you a partner that can look at what you're providing for information and make sure that it is being edited, positioned, written, formatted, whatever it might be. To have success with that audience and understanding the value behind empathy and objectivity, understanding the audience, seeing it through their lens and being able to touch on the important things they need to hear. Episode 60 digs into that. And the sixth tip that I would give you in terms of understanding your AI primer is personalizing whatever tool you want to use. So the two bigger ones that I see in hearing people share with me, ChatGPT and Claude, I've got an episode 109 which is how to personalize those tools. Now, others have the same way, they have the settings and whatnot. But this will give you an idea of a few ways in which you can personalize. And here's what I mean by that. You want to give feedback as much as possible, as often as possible to the tool that you're using on who you are, what you need from them, what you like, what you don't like. You know, that could be writing rules and formatting. It could be things that you want more of from them. It could be things that you want less from them. This is kind of a living and breathing set of instructions that gives you the power and flexibility to fine tune the work that you're doing with whatever tool you choose so that you can get more of what you want. Right? And that's what all this is about. When we go back to the amazing intern and talking to it and guiding it and whatnot, it needs your input. This is not something that you need to settle on, right? So if you get something that's not to your liking, you don't need to settle. There's not only one output, there's not just one output coming from a tool. The output needs to be to your satisfaction, needs to be valuable and meaningful to you, okay? And the way you get closer to that more consistently is by personalizing your approach. So episode 109 is going to give you some ideas on how to personalize and let the tool know things about you and what you like, what your preferences are, what to stay away from, what to do more of all that Stuff, right? And then at the beginning, I promised, I wanted you to be able to take like this mindset, this approach, as these principles and apply it to something right now to your desk today. How can I find value today? It's not all theory and theoretical and abstract. I want you to be able to dig in and find value today. So the last tip I'm going to leave you with. When you have the mindset and the approach and the framework, right, and the mentality and the understanding that we need to talk and communicate and give details and give feedback and is go find something that you're doing right now that is repetitive, or go find a problem that you're stuck with, or go find something that takes you too long to do on a computer and ask the tool that you're using. How can you help me with this one thing? The brainstorming power of the tool that you're using is remarkable, especially when you combine it with the other things that I've been giving you here. As far as your primer, just find that one thing. Episode 98 is going to dig into this deeper, find that one thing. This is the thing that you can do at your desk right now. Maybe there's a goal problem, a situation, a task that you do over and over again. What would you do if you had an extra three or four hours a week? Because the task that takes you that long could be expedited, what would that give you? What would that allow you to do? What could you do if that business idea or that craft idea or that personal mission that you have could have a problem solving partner or have someone that could help you plan it out and help you see how to succeed, how to take the first step, second step, third step, how to take it from an idea into something functional and real. What would you do if you could achieve that, right? And that's the gift, that's the power, right? That's the output that's here for you. If you follow these primer steps, you're going to be able to execute on one thing that's valuable and meaningful to you. And I'm going to leave you with this. Like, what is valuable and meaningful to one person may not be exactly the same, completely different from someone else's definition of it. And that's the best part. We don't have to rely on or settle for someone else's definition of what efficient is or what effective is, or what meaningful is, or what valuable is. And I promise you, when you dig in and you try this one thing, whatever it might be you're going to see trends, you're going to see how it reacts to your questions, you're going to see how it reacts to you guiding it and you're going to say, boy, I wonder if it could help me with this. And that's going to unlock, right? That's going to unlock your approach to give you a more meaningful and valuable interaction. It's been a gift to me to learn this, to make mistakes, to guide and to share. And you know, the teaching, it allows me to learn it again. Right? And for me, it's really been a gift to dig in and have a problem solving efficiency partner in my work, be one of these tools and I use a few of them, but it's really helped me with clarity and process and responsiveness and promptness and quality. And I'm hoping there's something there for you too. So if you're at the point where, like I said, you're wondering, what is all the hubbub about? How do I dig in here? I don't need another PowerPoint, I don't need another technical how to. These are the steps, these are the mindsets, these are the principles, the frameworks and the approaches that will help you get value. And if you apply these today, take these to your computer today and try something out, I promise you that you're going to get some feedback that's going to open your eyes to the possibility of how this can be a problem solving partner for you too. Okay? AmazingIntern AI is the URL. That's the website address for the show. You can find ways of contacting me there. Yes. When you log on, it's still going to have ChatGPT experiment in many places. I'm still in the transformation phase. But you are listening to the entire company as we, as we talk here, the tech team and the, and the content team, the production team, as well as the president and janitor of the company is talking to you right now. So we'll get there, we'll get there. But AmazingIntern AI, we'll get you to the site. If you got something that you want to share, talk about, go ahead and reach out to me there. You'll find ways of doing that. If you've got a workshop or a training in mind, or a speech presentation that you want to book, reach out. I'll talk to you about that too. My goal, as I said, whether it's you or the group, your business, your conference or seminar, is to have folks be more confident in their curiosity to go explore and get tremendous value. Value to them. What's meaningful to them. That's my goal, right? So as always, do stay curious. That's the most important aspect to success in any AI tool that you're using is curiosity. So instill we talk until we talk again, that is. Do appreciate you listening. Stay curious. Okay. Talk soon.
