Will Maga, will Trump kick Massey to the curb? Election primary day is upon us in a whole bunch of places all over the country. And May 19, 2026, could go down as the day that Massey has got to figure out something else for his career. We'll see. Big, big battle in Kentucky's 4th congressional district. And it's deciding something bigger than just one primary. It's really, at some level, a referendum on whether the Republican Party stands with President Trump and the America first agenda, or it's going to keep tolerating these political insiders who grandstand, obstruct, and undermine the commander in chief, who tens of millions voted to lead this comeback starting in 2024. So this isn't just politics as usual. In some ways, it's a battle for the soul of MAGA in the Kentucky heartland. And in places like Hebron, Kentucky, the reinforcements are showing up loud and clear. Let's start with the scene yesterday. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Defense. I'm sorry, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. Stepped onto the campaign trail in his personal capacity. It's a rare move here. Pete's a very talented guy when it comes to politics, though, and he didn't have to do this. But he was there because the message he wanted to get out there was unmistakable. President Trump needs fighters in Congress, not philosophers who love the sound of their own voices and have leftists, I mean, crazy leftists who are willing to come out and support them. So this is why Hegseth is standing with Ed Galrane, who is a. Who is a former Navy SEAL and the Trump endures challenger here. And he laid it out. He said President Trump does not need more people in Washington who are trying to make a point, especially from his own party as a Secretary of War. He needs people trying to help him win, to vote with him when it matters most. When Trump needs backup. Thomas Massie wants to debate process. That is the contrast in a nutshell. Okay, so let's talk about this. Who is Ed Galrain? He's a fifth generation Kentucky farmer, combat hardened Navy SEAL officer, Army Ranger, multiple Bronze stars, Seal Team 6 veteran. Whoa. He's the kind of guy who actually really served the country in the toughest arenas, not just talked about it from some safe congressional seat. He's a family man, a producer. He's a patriot who understands what real strength looks like. And Trump recruited him for a reason. Gallrain isn't in this for the headlines or libertarian purity tests. He's in it to deliver results For Kentucky families and back the America first agenda without hesitation. Gallrain praised Hag says visit. Amidst the weight of history here, he said, think about where we are right now. You're having the Secretary of War coming here to little old Kentucky. That's something to be proud of. And that's exactly right. So this has now become a national level race, not some one off congressional race. There is big forces at work here. It's a moment where America is reasserting itself on the world stage. Securing borders, bringing manufacturing home, draining the swamp, and finally putting American interests first after years of endless wars, open borders, and weak leadership. The other side of this, who is Massie? Thomas Massie has been in Congress since 2012. He's built a reputation as the guy who votes no a lot, often against spending. I think he used to walk around with a little pin on it that had the national debt number keep going up like a little electronic thing. He also goes against certain foreign policy moves and he says he's a principled constitutionalist. But here's a little MAGA reality check for him. When your own president is fighting truth tooth and nail to deliver on promises, securing the border, rebuilding the military, exposing corruption, cutting wasteful spending, supporting our allies like Israel when they need it, repeatedly siding against the team is in principle, it's obstruction. So Trump has made it crystal clear no Republican has infuriated him more than Massie. Clashes over budgets, the Epstein files release. Oh my gosh, what a. What a mess that whole thing became. And just a lot of grandstanding for Massie over that. So they finally released even more files. Did, did, did anything come of it? Did anything. Did we need to hear from Massey about this all the time? He wants to make a point. Well, Trump wants to make America great. I think that's more important. So this primary has already shattered records. Over $30 million in ads spent on this alone. Super PACs, outside money. The full weight of the America first movement is pouring in to flip this seat in a primary in a congressional race. Why? Well, because loyalty to the agenda matters. In a slim House majority, every vote counts. You can't afford members who grandstand while Trump is delivering historic peace deals, economic wins, border security. Massie calls himself independent, fine. But the voters who powered Trump's return say we need team players. And ignoring that as political malpractice, Kentucky's fourth is deep red Trump country. These voters know the difference between performative conservatism and the fighter who gets results. So that's what you get here over the big picture. Massie has had over a decade. Time's up. Time to send in reinforcements. Something Ed Gallrain certainly understands. He is the reinforcement. Battle tested, Kentucky rooted, Trump aligned. Ready to fight for farm families, veterans, workers, forgotten Americans who built Kentucky's fourth. So I hope Kentucky makes history with this one and boots this guy. But you know, there's some other important races that I wanted to talk about as well. We'll get into those on this primary day. But first up, our sponsor here is Birch Gold Group. When there are supply constraints on commodities, prices surge. You've seen it with oil in the straight of Hormuzz. Well, you know what else is limited as a commodity and is going up in price because of demand? Gold. They mine it out of the ground. When it's gone, it's gone. You can't print it like dollars on a, on a computer screen. So if you've been thinking about buying gold before, now is the time. Birch Gold Group is who I trust to help you. Now. Through May 29, Birch Gold is giving first time gold buyers a rebate of up to $10,000 on qualifying purchases. Text Buck to 9,898.98 today. Okay, now let's take a look at where we are here. A couple of big things. First of all, in Idaho, very conservative red state, the Gem State, we're seeing tests of loyalty in the governor's race and congressional seats. We got Governor Brad Little facing challenges from the right who want even bolder America first policies. Tighter borders, more aggressive tax cuts, pushing back on federal overreach. Idaho Republicans are deciding whether steady leadership gets the job done or if it's time for pure fighters, more pure fighters who won't compromise on core issues like energy dominance and second amendment rights. Down ballot House races are reinforcing the team. Idaho knows Trump country. Low taxes, strong families, resource production. Today's results will show if the base demands a more perfect alignment with MAGA or settles for kind of the old good enough approach. So we'll see. Then we've got in Oregon. Hmm. On the Pacific Northwest. This is fascinating because it's a blue leaning state, obviously. Very blue state, I should say, with pockets of Fierce red resistance thrown here and there, especially as you get further from the coast. The Republican primary for governors heating up big time. Candidates like Christine Drazen who nearly won last cycle. Chris Dudley, the former trailblazer. There you go, the basketball guy. And others battling to take on the failing Democrat machine that has turned Portland into a crime and homelessness disaster. Oregonians are sick of soft on crime policies. At least the Republicans are. High taxes and anti energy nonsense. So the GOP nominee will be the best position to flip the script and bring some common sense to that. That state. Safe streets, school choice, logging and farming, freedom, energy production, all good stuff. Rejection of the status quo. We'll see. Dudley though. Chris Dudley. I remember when that guy used to play Dudley's Got Game in Pennsylvania. Big implications there. Primary for lieutenant governor and all those critical House seats. On the Republican side, we're seeing strong America first contenders stepping up against any establishment lien government governor. Race dynamics will test who can appeal to working class voters in the Philly suburbs, Pittsburgh and the rural heartland, which is the exact coalition that Trump rebuilt. House districts across PA are purifying the slate. No more squishy votes on spending or border security. Pennsylvania sent Trump to victory before today. Its primaries ensure the down ballot team matches that energy. Every RINO primary loss is a win for the America first movement. So voters, especially those in swing states, choose fighters who will protect election integrity, support manufacturing revival and back the President's tariffs and border policies without apology across these key states. Kentucky stand against Massie. Idaho's conservative sharpening. Oregon's comeback attempt. Pennsylvania powerhouse purification. We see the same theme Trump ran on delivering and the Trump voters want people that are going to help him get through and deliver on those promises. So we shall see. And I'm really going to be watching this congressional race in Kentucky closely. Ed Galrane. I think it's going to be quite a message. You know, interesting to see who has backed what leftists have backed Massie. Really interesting to see that there are all these people who basically stand for everything that Republicans and the right and even libertarians should be aghast at and they're trying to do everything they can to support Massie. Right. So it's if you're a Republican, you should despise a lot of the people that are supporting Massie or at least despise what they believe in. And so that's something that I think tells you a lot about this. I'm looking right now at the different lists. You have all kinds of groups that have thrown their $30 million on a congressional seat. It is astonishing, isn't it, the amount of money that is spent on politics in this era. Even for a congressional seat, even for a primary to primary a guy. So it's big stuff. We'll see where this goes. Sponsor Here is Super sure Here's a question. How many brokers does it take to insure your business? If you're like most business owners, the answer is too many. The Clay Travis and Buck Sexton Show – Buck Brief: Can Trump Send Wacko Massie Packing in KY?
Air Date: May 19, 2026
Host: Buck Sexton
Episode Theme:
A critical examination of the Republican primary in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District, pitting incumbent Rep. Thomas Massie against Trump-endorsed challenger Ed Gallrein, and positioning the race as a referendum on MAGA loyalty and the future of the Republican Party. The episode extends this analysis to other key primary battles nationwide.
The episode dissects the high-stakes Republican primary in Kentucky’s 4th Congressional District. Buck Sexton frames the contest as more than a local political fight: it is a pivotal test of MAGA influence inside the GOP, challenging whether party loyalty should align firmly behind Donald Trump’s America First agenda or tolerate self-described mavericks like Massie. The commentary further draws connections to parallel primary contests in Idaho, Oregon, and Pennsylvania, all reflecting a broader battle over the direction and identity of the Republican Party moving into the 2026 elections.
The episode casts the Kentucky 4th primary as a litmus test for MAGA orthodoxy within the Republican Party, suggesting that Trump and his base are demanding not just rhetorical support but unwavering, actionable loyalty in Congress. Massie’s independent streak is characterized as obstruction, while Gallrein is championed as the embodiment of MAGA’s fighting spirit. This contest is placed in a broader national context, as similar ideological battles are unfolding across several key states on primary day, all with the singular goal of fortifying the Trump movement ahead of November.
