B
Okay.
A
Yeah. It's what we say.
B
So.
A
That's right. And because all we do is give. Every Thursday, you can listen to our hysterical podcast, idiot of the Week. We round up the stupid. Because you know what? Somebody has to.
B
Okay? All we do is give.
C
Hey, Everybody. It's Friday, June 12th, 2026. I'm Allison Gill.
B
And I'm Dana Goldberg. And this is Beans Talk.
C
All right, everybody. Hey. Hey. So I know this is not a sports ball podcast.
B
Sports ball. I, I've always, by the way, we just called it a sports ball.
C
Like, I've grown up, you know, like listening to the Cure and the Smiths and being alternative and kind of gothy and weird and artistic and all that you know, sort of stuff. And so, but, but I was also born in Akron, and so there was a lot of sports influence in my life. From my first of all, my grandpa, who was a huge Cubs fan, who has lived in Chicago. So I got into baseball. My parents were Cleveland Browns fans. So I went to a lot of Cleveland Browns games. It's different from California, right, Because there's just when it's cold and you're in Akron, there's just not much else to do. So I did grow up with a huge love of watching sports. And I, I, you know, I get that it's been kind of hijacked by oligarchs and all that other stuff. And we can talk about how the owner of the New York Knicks is being a dickhead right now and like, I guess, going up against mom Donnie. But I, you know, very much into news, very much into politics, but I kind of wanted to bring sports into it today because game four, my God, of the NBA Finals, where the Knicks, by the way, staged the biggest comeback in NBA playoff history to beat the spurs going up three to one in the seven game series. Absolutely. Blew my mind. I was sitting there and as I was watching it, it started to dawn on me that I was watching the history in the making. Yeah, right.
B
Yeah. It is extraordinary. And it started before the Game. Listen, I love New Yorkers. I love New Yorkers. This is some footage of New Yorkers burning sage outside of Madison Square Garden to get rid of that fucking stench that was brought on by Trump and that curse that he brought on to, to break their, their winning streak. And anyway, take a look at this.
D
Let's get the boys. I get the.
B
I love this.
C
Okay, so now we've brought into, you know, we've brought into the sports conversation my, my background in Wicca and there you go.
B
That's the first step. Yep, yep.
C
So now we're integrating that little part. And I absolutely love this because everybody was so I, we were all sort of, if you, if you watch sports, you're really into sports, you really understand like how superstition plays a role in, in sports. And you know, everyone was like, is, did he curse the Knicks? Did he curse just Madison Square Garden? Did he just curse the night? And so they're all out there smudging a sage like all over the outside of Madison Square Garden to lift that curse.
B
These are die hard Knicks fans. I don't think people understand that. Like I keep seeing tiktoks about how much did you pay for tickets? People that have had their Knicks tickets for years, they have tickets for $875. They might be in the nosebleed, but that's what they have. Meanwhile, people are coming in and paying $60, $65,000 plus for tickets. These people are die hard fans. They have been there. I'm talking to the Spike Lees of all of those people in the nosebleed seats that they have been there year after year and this is their moment and they're going to take it back.
C
Yeah. And, and I, I just wanted to show you a little encapsulation of the comeback. It started kind of right at the beginning of the third quarter and kind of went back and forth a little bit on into the fourth quarter and I. About nine minutes left in the fourth quarter they were down by 20, but at one point they were down by 29. And this video posted by Stardust, who, who I'm so glad they put this video together on Blue sky shows you the 29 point comeback in under two minutes. Watch.
D
Sorry about that. Was not intentional in this game. It's not like you can just go and focus what Johnson does best. He has not had a great playoff series. Adenobi Brunson tries a three pointer. That's good. Anunoby tries another three. Anunoby hits another three. Cornette checks in. Hart tries A three. Hart hits a three. Bounce at night. And Brunson drew the foul. Counted and one. Brunson steps back. Jump shots. Got it again. Starters for the Knicks. Alley up to Robinson. Beautiful pass. Looking, steps back, tries a three pointer shot, bounces around and drops in. Top the bridges. Alvarado tries a three, rolls around and drops in. Beautiful pass. Inside bridges. Banks at home. Shot clock winding down. Towns off the bounce. Step back, puts up the three. It's good. Porter and Knicks going with Alvarado and Brunson. Anunoby, three pointers, good bounds, fakes, drives on. Wemby goes inside, stops, flips it up. Shot is good. The foul. Brunson has it. Shot clock at 4. Brunson gets inside, right handed, off the glass. It's good. Inside. Alvarado off the bounce. Corner three, Anunoby, bang. All this momentum. Alvarado pulls back, spins, gets inside. Leah backs it. Home block, finds Alvarado open. Look, Alvarado three pointer. That's good. Shot clock at five. Brunson fires up a three. Pucks it in. Brunson stutter, dribble, drives inside, goes up, flutters up. It's good. The next one. Brunson gets it, fires up a three shot. No good. The tip, it's gone. It's good. It's good. With 1.2 remaining. Next, take the lead, OG Anobi. And it's 107, 106.
A
Just.
B
And this is the thing that I want to make very clear. This wasn't like a crazy run. This was them chipping away at this lead in a way that you were like, wait a minute, we were just down by 29. Now we're only down by 15. Wait, back up by 19. I mean, back down by 19. Back down by 15. Now back down by 11. Wait, we're only down by 3. What the hell is going on? Like, it was very incremental. It was. It was incredible to watch. And here is OG I just want to call him OG because I feel like OG Ananobi. This tip, this tip that will go down as one of the most historic shots in NBA history from several different angles. Check this out.
D
One that inbounded. Nobody guarded him, and he went right to the rim. Perfect timing. But now the spurs have a chance. 1.2. Plenty of time to catch, get off a shot. They're now out of timeouts. What do you look forward to, San Antonio? Well, listen, with Victor Wembanyama, obviously, the rim roll is a.
B
Now, the reason he was even open is because everyone was Focusing on Brunson because he was going to shoot the three. And it was a great shot. That wasn't a bad shot. It was a great attempt. But the fact that Anunoby was able to be unguarded and so he had perfect position to jump up for the rebound, which is what he thought he was getting, obviously. But the, the softness of the fingertips and that tip in and just the explosion in that arena. Unbelievable.
C
Yeah. And, and he, he was. And I, I, I, I'm very curious as to whether this play was on purpose or not, because Anunoby, with that tip in, he's the guy who actually inbounded the ball. Yeah, he, he inbounded the ball from the sidelines. So when Brunson took his three, nobody was guarding him.
B
Right. The one was guarding the inbounder, and
C
he had a clear lane.
B
What's also crazy, and I'm not sure of the player who blocked it. I think maybe it was Towns. It could have been the inbound. When the spark, the sparks. When the San Antonio Spurs. Sorry. I guess men play basketball, too. When the San Antonio spurs went to go inbound, there's no goaltending on this inbound, so they can alley oop it up and hit it. And their player, their player was there. It got blocked. The inbound pass got blocked because otherwise their player was wide open. And they would have gotten that alley open, slammed it right into our throats. And it didn't happen because that ball got blocked. And I don't know, enough people are talking about that because the shot was so extraordinary. But the defense on the inbound on the next play also helps save the game.
C
And there was another interesting thing that happened, too. The spurs had what we call one foul to give, which means you can foul a player and they don't have to yet. They don't get to throw free throws over it. They have to inbound the ball.
B
Yeah.
C
So they had one foul to give. And that's because in order to get that inbound from an obi, that was from a foul, had they not had any fouls to give, they would have been shooting free throws to go ahead, but they had to make that shot instead, which is why that tip in was so crucial. Put them up by one point. And then, of course, there's the. Everybody's asking why Fox on the spurs, before that whole thing went down, didn't just hold and dribble the ball for the remaining 15 seconds and run out the clock or take a foul? Because then they could have gone ahead because they were up by one at that point. The Spurs.
B
Yeah. There was some very strange decisions by the spurs at the end of that
C
game that I'm sure a lot of people are questioning had to happen in a very specific order in order for that to go. And those are the kinds of things you like if you're watching and your team is behind, that you hope will happen, but never does. But this time it was really funny.
B
I don't know if you saw the press conference afterwards with og, with Anunobi, but they were like, how do you feel, man? You just shot the game winning shot and made history. And he was like, I mean, it's cool, it's cool. I mean, I feel good. I think we all feel. I mean, I think we all think it's cool. And everyone started laughing. He's like, what? I'm just. We're just focusing on the next game. It was just one game, but he was like, it's cool.
C
It was amazing. Now here, here you can see some of the, the absolute pure joy. And this is what I love about sports is the community. Yeah, the pure joy at Central park when that game winning tip in went
D
up.
A
It. Just.
C
I absolutely love it.
B
You know, I told you on the long beans, you could hear the cheers from all of the outdoor watch parties in Manhattan, on the other side of the river in New Jersey.
C
It was that loud, amazing. And congrats to New Yorkers. Remember when you were like, please act right. They all acted right. Everybody acted right. It was so great. Now I just wanted to share this with you because I was texting a friend of mine as this went down because again, so superstitious. I kept writing like blue sky posts during the fourth quarter, like, oh my God, down by 15. Oh my God, down by 10. And then I was like, nope, delete, discard. I'm not going to post for the fourth quarter because I don't want to jinx this. I don't want to jinx the comeback. And so I didn't do any of that, but I'm texting with my friends meanwhile and I wanted to show you this particular exchange with a friend of mine at 6:52. I said, Geez, 26 points down. And he was like, stopped watching. I was like, yeah, I might change the channel, but I didn't. And then about an hour later I was like, there's been five spurs turnovers and the leads cut to 15. And he said, it's the hope that kills you. But then about 20 minutes later he's like, all right, Now I'm watching. And then here's the exchange leading up to the game winning shot. No fucking way. I can't believe what I'm seeing. I'm going to have a heart attack. And then he hits me with this joke, Dana. He goes, so you know Donald is a Spurs fan, right? And I was like, I was thinking, I'm like, I've actually heard some people say that they've seen Trump at Knicks games throughout his life. And I was like, I thought, oh, I thought he was a Knicks fan. And he goes, no, they kept him out of Vietnam.
B
Oh my God.
C
Bone Spurs.
B
That's really funny.
C
So I laughed. And then a minute later, OG Anunoby hit that tip in and I just said, holy shit. And then the whole town went wild.
B
What was wild? And I'm not going to put her name because she knows who she is because she watches and loves us. But one of my friends, I don't know why, decided to tell. And we weren't recording the game intentionally because I had that big event last night, so we weren't gonna watch anything. We didn't check our phones, we didn't wanna know the score. Girlfriend opens.
C
Thought it would be kept a secret.
B
Yep, just two words, Nick's won. And so I went, we came home and we were like, you know what, let's watch. Anyway, the funny thing is, is when we watched and they were down by 29, we were like, did she miss text us? Like, was it the spurs one? Was it Knicks long?
C
So you got a Knicks one text and then you had recorded the game and went home and started watched the game and they're down 20. There's no way.
B
And then at the end, we, we got chills like we didn't know who won the game already when the thing was happening. It was all very funny.
C
Oh, my God. So by the way, everybody. And here's where politics comes into it now. Because the friend that I was texting those text messages that I showed you is the anonymous Ice Flight Tracker guy on social media. You know this guy, he's got tens of thousands of followers. He's now going to be starting a podcast called Worst Airline Ever. A podcast unmasking ice. And it's with independent journalist Gillian Brell and the anonymous activist JJ and dc. That's my friend that I was texting with, taking you inside the hidden, fucked up world of Ice Air. Rachel Maddow has reposted Gillian's reporting. I know a lot of people follow the Ice Flight Tracker reports from JJ and DC on Blue Sky. And so they're starting a podcast, patreon.com/cw/ worst airline ever. Or you can just go to Patreon and search for worst airline ever and get that update. But that's who I asked him. I was like, can I. Can I tell everyone it was you? And he's like, yeah, sure.
B
Nice.
C
Very proud of his.
B
You got fun friends. You have fun friends.
C
I do, I do. Anyway, I. I've watched that tip in 100 times today.
B
Also, can we talk about the joy of Taylor Swift and Mariska Hargitay and the Haim sisters just for a second? I mean, first of all, all the shirts that they clearly had made, it was Stevie Nicks and Nickelback and all the things that had Nick in them. Watching Taylor and Mariska just, like, embrace, enjoy, and jumping and just being in such a moment of euphoria, it was extraordinary to watch. Also, I've never seen Larry David so happy in my life.
C
Totally.
B
And Larry David isn't one of those guys, I think that shows a lot of joy and emotion in public. And my God, he was so elated.
C
It was fantastic. A friend of mine actually sent me like an. A tweet because they got a picture of Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld, and it says they're just kind of standing there talking to each other. And it says the spurs know how to take the lead. They just don't know how to hold the lead. And that's really the most important part of the lead, the holding.
B
That's funny.
C
It just so sounds exactly like them. And I absolutely.
B
Seinfeld joke. Yep.
C
I absolutely, absolutely loved it. But yeah, just fun to watch. Mariska Hargitay jumping up. If you watch any of the after game show stuff, she's, like, running up behind the comedy. They love hugging Brunson hug, like, just hugging everybody. Oh, she's.
B
They love her. She. I mean, she's. She's a huge fan. Yeah. And she's so good to those. I call them boys because, you know, compared to me. But those young men. Those men, yes.
C
Anyway, thank you for indulging us with a. A little bit of a sports pod. A little sports ball podcast here on the Beans Talk coming up next. Top of the hour.
B
There it is. Z. Top of the hour.
C
Wow, it's that.
B
The hour.
C
Wow. It's my half baseball announcer, half Christopher Walken.
B
Whoa. That's right. Top of the hour. You sound like Amy Poehler doing her Christopher Walken impression on Saturday Night Live.
C
I love when you sound like Somebody
B
don't like dolls because they scare somebody.
C
Like, that's the best, right?
B
Like.
C
Like Will Frell's Harry Carey. Like, and so when I do Harry Cary, I do Will Ferrell. Hey, I do Will Ferrell.
B
Isn't that funny? We do impressions of people doing impressions of other people.
C
That's how it goes.
B
Y.
C
All right, everybody, thank you so much again. Thanks for indulging us in a little bit of sports talk. It doesn't happen very often, but that was an historic little bit.
B
It happens in my head every single football history.
C
So thank you so much. We will see you on Monday. You'll be back Monday.
A
Yeah, you can.

Episode: Beans Talk | Knicks Beat Trump's Curse to Make a Huge Comeback
Date: June 12, 2026
Hosts: Allison Gill & Dana Goldberg (MSW Media)
In this vibrant and refreshingly off-beat episode of The Daily Beans, hosts Allison Gill and Dana Goldberg break form to dive head-first into the world of sports—specifically, the dramatic Game 4 comeback by the New York Knicks in the NBA Finals. Weaving in classic Beans wit, progressive commentary, and a few personal and superstitious anecdotes, Allison and Dana unpack how this historic moment transcended athletics to create a cultural and even political phenomenon, complete with Knicks fans battling (and apparently beating) the so-called "Trump Curse."
This episode is a masterclass in blending breaking sports news with the Beans podcast’s core: community, progressive wit, personal storytelling, and a little bit of activism. Even for listeners indifferent to sports, the hosts’ excitement, the vibrant portrayal of New York’s collective joy, and the seamless connections to politics and pop culture make for an irresistibly engaging listen.
