MSW Media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Friday, May 23, 2025. Today, House Republicans voted to pass the billionaire bailout tax bill, gutting Medicaid, Medicare, food assistance, climate tax credits, all to pay for tax cuts for the ultra wealthy. A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from dismantling the Department of Education. Another federal judge has blocked Trump from revoking international students legal status. And minutes before that, the Trump administration blocked Harvard from enrolling international students. The White House has purged transcripts of Trump's remarks from its website to Israel. Embassy staffers were shot at close range after an event in D.C. outside the Capitol's Jewish Museum Wednesday night. The full D.C. circuit Court panel has allowed Trump to defund the Voice of America. DHS staffers have quit over Kristi Noem's four hour polygraph loyalty tests and surprise, surprise, Musk's SpaceX is the front runner to build Trump's Golden Dome missile shield. Greenland has signed a mineral deal with Europe. And Tim Walls says it would be a mistake for Democrats to abandon trans people. I'm Allison Gill.
Tana Goldberg
And I'm Tana Goldberg.
Allison Gill
Hey, Happy Friday, my friend.
Tana Goldberg
Happy Friday to you. We made it through another week, barely by the skin of our teeth, but we are here.
Allison Gill
Yeah, we did. Oh, and something else that like just happened between a minute ago when I read the headlines and like right now the Supreme Court is allowing Trump to fire those two people from the nlrb and yeah, and so those are like multi member boards. Right. And so the Humphreys executor is what protects that. Now the Supreme Court didn't make a decision on that. They're just lifting the stay while they decide. But I bet they have enough votes to overturn Humphrey's executive. So we'll keep an eye on that for you.
Tana Goldberg
That sounds good. I just don't know when this Congress is going to decide that them being castrated basically is what's happening and I hate to use that term, but all of the things that their job is actually to do and they are in control of other than just passing really shitty bills, he's taking away from them. And if I got elected to the United States Congress to do a job, I would be furious if all of a sudden I didn't have a say in that job.
Allison Gill
Right. Like it was Congress that established the Merit Systems Protection Board and the National Labor Relations Board.
Tana Goldberg
Exactly.
Allison Gill
But there are several judges and we'll talk about this a little bit more today that are that we've seen and you and I have done a ton of stories on these judges saying, look, you can't just dismantle a federal agency that Congress created. So it's a couple different things that are, that are going on and we'll talk about that. Also, it's Friday here, so it's Fugal sang Fridays on the Daily Beans. We'll be joined by John Fugal saying later. Also, if you have a buck or two, we need help raising funds to pay for the no Kings rally. We have to build a little stage. It's actually a really big stage and we're doing that on that rally on June 14th here at San Diego. I'm going to be the MC and we're have a link in the show notes that you can kick in a few bucks if you can. We're doing a shoestring budget here. So any, any little bit helps. So thank you very much. Also, Mega Zoom happy hour cocktail mocktail extravaganza with everyone ever tonight at 7:00pm Eastern, 4:00pm Pacific. It's me, Dana. You're gonna pop in. Harry Dunn will be there. Annie McCabe will be there. It's going to be fun.
Tana Goldberg
Fantastic. Can't wait to see my boy crush. That's. Well, he's a man crush, Andy McCabe. You know, one of us don't. I mean, come on. I with the live events. You should see the people, the way people look at Andy. Also, his wife is a phenomenal human being. They're just a lovely couple.
Allison Gill
Yes. Andy McBabe, as we called him way back in the day, is a sneaker guy. He, like wears skinny jeans. He goes to very cool concerts. He takes his family to see Taylor Swift all the time. He's just a very, very cool dude.
Tana Goldberg
Wears and trades the bracelets. I mean, he's the real deal.
Allison Gill
Yep, yep, he does. And you can ask him questions. All you got to do is become a patron. If you're not one. Patreon.com Mueller she wrote you. You get a whole bunch of really cool stuff when you do that. You get to be part of, you know, our private online communities and discords and discussions and VIP sale meet and greets. Like after the no Kings rally, after the march, after we're done marching, I'm going to have a meet and greet where patrons can come hang out, decompress after the march, share our favorite signs, just be among our community. And I'm going to be hosting that event.
Tana Goldberg
Amazing.
Allison Gill
And patrons will be able to go to that. Plus you can add free episodes. I mean, you just get so much stuff it's like three bucks a month. It really, really helps us out, especially, you know, with all of the supply lines, all the trade tariffs and deficits and all that stuff at people. Advertisers are canceling their budget. So it really helps us out. Patreon.com Muller she wrote. All right, everybody, we have a lot of news to get to. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, this is a horrifying story. Two young people were shot outside the Capitol Jewish Museum late Wednesday night in Washington, D.C. the Justice Department has brought federal charges against a man accused of fatally shooting two staff members of the Israeli Embassy in Washington as they were leaving an event at a Jewish museum. The two people killed, identified as Yaron Lechinsky, who's an Israeli citizen, and Sarah Milgram, an American, were a young couple. They were about to be engaged. Dana, he had bought the ring and he was going to ask her next week. I'm not going to mention the shooter. And I think Pete Buttigieg put words to my feelings. He said, outraged and heartbroken by the news of two young people killed last night in D.C. in a targeted act of anti Semitic violence. This is the opposite of advancing justice and peace. It only furthers the violence, pain and loss. And such hatred must be firmly rejected by all.
Tana Goldberg
And I need to say something, and I rarely say things about this specific topic. It's very personal to me for many reasons. And Charlotte Clymer, a dear friend of the podcast, made a excellent post. And please, I'm being very specific. So if you are taking issue with what I'm about to say, ask yourself why before you come back and attack the very far left, the fringe left, as basically those, you know, people who believe free Palestine, no matter what, they don't seem to care about the Israeli people. They never bring up Israel. And he, and we're not going to mention the shooter, he didn't realize and does not know because of the rhetoric in this country that those two people were part of the conversation you want at the table. They want to find a solution. They don't agree with what's happening in the totality of this war.
Allison Gill
Those two people, they want a free Palestine.
Tana Goldberg
They wanted a free Palestine. And that's what, you know, the shooter apparently was chanting free, free, peace, Palestine when he was in the building. He killed two people that would be willing to have a conversation with him and hear him out. This is being fueled by a president who is making a caricature of what's happening in the Middle east to build A Riviera on the Gaza Strip, mentioning nothing about the Israeli people, mentioning nothing about the thousands of people that are being killed in those areas, the Palestinian people. So if you think Trump is not part of this problem, you are wrong. The way he speaks about it is causing more anti Semitism in this country and making more people hate the Jewish people. Unfounded. So, as I said, I rarely speak out, but this is a perfect example of the bullshit and misinformation and the way that this president talks about what's happening over there and using it as a place to make money, to build property, not caring about anybody that is involved in this. Those two people that died, obviously there's many people that should not have died, but they would have had a conversation with someone who believes in free Palestine. And I think we really need to get a hold of this. And I'm glad Buttigieg said something.
Allison Gill
Well, you know, Trump is anti Semitic. He dines with Nick Fuentes. Elon Musk, who funded his presidency, gave two sieg heils. I mean, he's anti Semitic to the core. And meanwhile, he's jailing people who support free Palestine, who write op EDS about it, who want freedom for Gaza and peace for Gaza, and he's jailing them for their opinions, for their speech, for their protests. So he's just full of hate. And you remember the Trump administration, The Trump campaign ran ads to both sides.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, absolutely. They did this intentionally to spark more wars between religion. We talked about it yesterday in the podcast, the Raced wars. Or I said that this morning on Stephanie Miller. It is intentional and it is just horrifying that people are taking these into their own hands. These two innocent, beautiful young people should not be dead today. Especially because, like I said, they were ready to have. They would have been at the table with the person that took their life. I just. I don't get it. It just makes me sad. So I needed to say something. And like I said, it's. It's. I was. I was quoting Charlotte Clymer was talking about. Because this was from the very far left that was basically like, this is what happens. This is what happens when you do this in Gaza. No, absolutely not. This is not what happens. This is anti Semitism, pure and simple.
Allison Gill
Yeah, okay.
Tana Goldberg
I'm sorry we had to start with that story. We're going to continue on. This is from NBC. Early Wednesday, when most Americans, they were snuggled in their beds. Republicans decided in the House of Representatives that we're working hard to take away the health care of millions. Americans blow a $3 trillion hole in the budget deficit and make the wealthiest people in America richer and the poorest Americans even poorer. Now, if this sounds like a hyperbole. It's not. That's exactly what happened. The GOP controlled House Rules Committee convened at one o' clock in the fucking morning, one in the morning, Wednesday morning, to discuss a bill that hasn't been fully drafted, the provisions of which are still part of an intense negotiation. And indeed, the real work on the legislation was happening behind closed doors. As Mike Johnson, as we know, the Republican from Louisiana, he tried to cobble together enough votes to pass something, just something, anything, so that he could meet his self imposed deadline for the floor vote by Memorial Day. So late Wednesday, GOP their leaders, they released more significant changes to the bill. And on Thursday morning, the full House passed the bill by a single vote. A single vote. The bill would increase the federal deficit by $3.8 trillion, a rise that has spooked bond markets already. Worried about the President's tariff increases. The bill would slash $267 billion in federal spending for SNAP, which more than 42 million low income people rely on to put food on the table for their families. It would cut nearly $700 billion from federal funding for Medicaid. The CBO estimated Tuesday that the Medicaid cuts would cost roughly 8 million people to lose their health insurance coverage. And that number that could rise to 15 million thanks to other provisions in the legislation. All of this is being done to extend the Trump tax cuts for the wealthy. And now if this is enacted, the bill would constitute the largest transfer of wealth from the needy to the wealthy in American history. And I want to say something also in this bill, it cuts all Medicaid gender affirming care, affirming care not just for minors. I need people to hear this. It cuts gender affirming care for every trans person in the country. We're talking about adults, all of them. I hope that part of the good trouble, and if we haven't gotten to it, and I don't, I haven't seen it in the script, but I hope it's going to be about calling your senators about this because we have to make sure that this does not pass.
Allison Gill
You are very prescient and wise, my friend. That is exactly what the good truck is.
Tana Goldberg
Baby Jesus. All right, I need to like, I've been fired up since Stephanie Miller this morning and I just need to take a breath. There's just so much bullshit going on right now and it really, it infuriates me. And I have to remember to tell myself to go outside, take a breath. I can only control as much as I can. But when you're inundated with the news stories day in and day out, sometimes you just forget and you let it take over. So I'm going to take a breath while my co host goes on to the next story.
Allison Gill
Yes, we must flip the house, y' all. All right. We have the by the way, Leguminati Blue Wave California fund is set up to easily flip the house. Flippable seats.
Tana Goldberg
Nice.
Allison Gill
And we have a link. This is a Leguminati thing only because Leguminati single handedly raised half a million dollars in 2020, another quarter of a million $300,000 in 2022. We raised about $200,000 in 2018. So we're going to see what the luguminati can do in the midterms this time. So again, that link's in the show notes. Next up in an exclusive from Reuters. A big surprise everyone. Elon Musk's SpaceX and two of his buddies have emerged as the front runners to win a crucial part of Trump's Golden Dome missile defense. Isn't that his head, the golden dome? Isn't that like his head, the missile defense shield? According to six people familiar with the matter said. And let me just preface this by this is not, this is not like the Star wars thing that Reagan wanted to do to shoot down long range ballistic nuclear missiles during the Cold War. This is for ballistic missiles like what Israel has, as though Mexico and Canada were firing missiles at us.
Tana Goldberg
It's ridiculous.
Allison Gill
It is the dumbest fucking unnecessary expensive thing and it is just to give a bunch of fucking money to Elon Musk. So Musk, Musk's rocket and satellite company is partnering with Palantir, another big shocker, and Anduril, on a bid to build key parts of the Golden Dome, the sources said, which has drawn significant interest from the technology sector's burgeoning base of defense startups. So now we're, we're birthing a, a military industrial complex tech style with Musk and his acolytes. All three companies were founded by entrepreneurs who've been major political supporters of Trump. Big shock. Musk has donated more than a quarter of a billion dollars to help elect Trump and now serves as advisor to the President working to cut government spending, which is a misstatement working to dismantle federal agencies.
Tana Goldberg
There you go.
Allison Gill
That help Americans through his so called Department of Government Efficiency. So I did have to change a couple words in that article, which I do and you do do from time to time to make them actually actual.
Tana Goldberg
So anyway, stupid golden dome. I want a lesbian president. So we can just call it a beaver dam. Like, I think that's what should be protecting the country. Yeah, but from what's past a beaver. Damn.
Allison Gill
From Putin. I get.
Tana Goldberg
I mean, from bad men. That's what my beaver dam does.
Allison Gill
Beaver dam. I love it. Beaver. All right. Speaking of stuff this week. Yeah.
Tana Goldberg
This is from Raw Story. See, listen, the transitions here are perfect. The Department of Homeland Security secretary. I'd like to shoot puppies. Christy Gnomes obsession with tracking down leakers in her department has led to an exodus of employees who would rather quit than listen to threats or be subjected to intrusive polygraph tests. Now, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal, the polygraphs that began back in February have continued unabated as she and top advisor Corey Lewandowski.
Allison Gill
Dude, she's totally boning Corey.
Tana Goldberg
You remember Corey who got arrested drunk in his front yard? Yeah.
Allison Gill
Oh, no. That was.
Tana Goldberg
Oh, no. Who was that?
Allison Gill
That was.
Tana Goldberg
I'm gonna. Let's just edit that whole thing. Who was that?
Allison Gill
Not Pooh.
Tana Goldberg
Parcel. Parnell.
Allison Gill
What is that guy's name? Panat Parlator. Oh, my God. All right, who. He was the. He was the Trump.
Tana Goldberg
Do you have to look it up other than for us? Because we have to edit this out.
Allison Gill
All right. We do.
Tana Goldberg
I guess we don't. It's not Corey Lewandowski. Everybody. But I did. I bet Corey Lewandowski probably did something.
Allison Gill
Brad Parscale.
Tana Goldberg
Parscale.
Allison Gill
We're all parlator. No tour Parscale.
Tana Goldberg
Anyway, that's the top advisor, apparently to Christy Gnome personally singled out employees and numbers that one former official labeled unprecedented. See, this is what happens when we don't edit stuff out. You get to see what happens. How the sausage is made behind the scenes.
Allison Gill
The sausage?
Tana Goldberg
No. Well, you know, at least it wasn't on the taint of the week. The report notes that some interrogations that have taken place, quote, in small interrogation room in Virginia with one way mirrors. They've lasted for up to four hours. Some employees, they've been placed on administrative leave following their polygraphs, while others have resigned rather than take the exams. That's according to people familiar with the dynamics inside the dhs, the report states, while also noting that no her confident Madison Sheehan, the number two official at ice, routinely threatens to subject employees to polygraphs in meetings. In meetings. This doesn't seem constitutional it seems like a violation of what, the First Amendment.
Allison Gill
Some Nazi shit right there.
Tana Goldberg
Sure is.
Allison Gill
Yes. The beatings will continue until morale improves. All right, more from Raw Story Words, Raw Story Day here. This is Sarah K. Burris. The full Washington, D.C. circuit Court refused to overturn motions in the case involving funding the Voice of America, Radio for Europe, Radio Liberty, et cetera. Earlier in May, as we know, a federal appellate court paused a ruling that had reversed an order that the VOA be dismantled. As Politico reported in April, U.S. district Judge Royce Lamberth had ordered the Trump administration to bring back VOA workers. The judge then argued that dismantling the organization violated the Constitution. Right. This is one of those things. Congress put it together, you can't take it apart. The district court issued an injunction stopping the shutdown, but the three judge appellate court stopped that stoppage of the stoppage, allowing the agency to close. The pro VOA legal team asked for a full vote from the D.C. court on banc, which was denied in the ruling Thursday. That's the most recent thing. I thought they for sure would hear it and reinstate the Voice of America. But this means the district court ruling stands. And frankly, I like I said, I'm surprised by this because no other information was written in the decision. So I guess next stop, Supreme Court. And I'm pretty sure I know how they're going to rule.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah. Can we even tell? Sometimes Amy Coney Barrett surprises us. And I never thought I would say Aunt Lydia every once in a while has a moment of doing the right thing. This one's from NBC. The White House has removed official transcripts of President Donald Trump's public remarks from its government website, replacing them with selected videos of his public appearances and drawings. I like to make drawings, my Simon. As recently as Sunday, transcripts of Trump's speeches and comments were still showing up in the Remarks section of the White House.gov and if you can imagine, they probably weren't very flattering. Now, the next day, they were gone. Snapshots of the site from an internal archive. They showed this. The only transcript appearing now is of Trump's inaugural address on January 20. Government stenographers are still recording and transcribing Trump's remarks, the White House officials said. But in an internal policy change in recent days, the White House took down the transcripts in favor of audio and video of his appearances. And I guess we're just supposed to trust that those weren't doctored or AI generated?
Allison Gill
Yeah, yeah.
Tana Goldberg
The Trump administration says that this is about people getting A fuller understanding of what he says by watching videos rather than reading his statements. That's it right there. You get rid of transcripts because you can't really doctor those without a lot of work. But a video you can doctor.
Allison Gill
Not only that, it's. It's not even that. It's that if you ever read what he says, it's.
Tana Goldberg
That's true. It's bananas. That's fair. It sounds absolutely ridiculous.
Allison Gill
I know it doesn't make any sense, but the, like, they could see the. In the meeting, like, well, we've been reading these transcripts. They're pretty fucking crazy. So we're just going to put your videos up there, okay, sir? Because they. They'd make, you know, as much sense, which, which is none. But at least people are distracted by your, you know, I don't know, failure to blend your foundation. I don't. I don't.
Tana Goldberg
It's like trying to read one of our comedy sets instead of seeing us live. Some things just don't translate.
Allison Gill
Yeah, well, nothing this dude says makes any sense. Right? Because of the weave. It's the weave.
Tana Goldberg
Oh, my God.
Allison Gill
Oh, ridiculous. Next up from the Times. This is also fashy as the Trump administration on Thursday halted Harvard University's ability to enroll international students, taking aim at a crucial funding source for the nation's oldest and wealthiest college, in a major escalation in the administration's efforts to pressure the elite school to fall in line and lick his ass with the president's agenda. And the administration. I added that. That's not. The New York Times. Yeah.
Tana Goldberg
Did you.
Allison Gill
The administration notified Harvard about the decision after a back and forth in recent days over the legality of a sprawling records request as part of the Department of Homeland Security's investigation. That's according to three people with knowledge of the negotiations. They wanted all the students private records. The people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they're afraid of, you know, probably being disappeared to a gulag in El Salvador. The latest move is likely to prompt a second legal challenge from Harvard, according to one person familiar with the thinking who insisted on anonymity. Also, the university sued the administration last month over the government's attempt to impose changes to its curriculum, admissions policies, and hiring practices. And now they're saying that whole. All the international students that were accepted to come on an exchange program. Done. Canceled. Gone.
Tana Goldberg
Oh, my God.
Allison Gill
All international students. Nope, no more at Harvard. No international students.
Tana Goldberg
Get this. Minutes later. Minutes later. A judge in California blocked the Trump administration Thursday from terminating the legal status of international students nationwide while a court case challenging previous terminations is pending. This reporting, by the way, comes from the Associated Press. The order by U.S. district Judge Jeffrey S. White in Oakland. It bars the government from arresting, incarcerating or moving students elsewhere based on their legal status. Until the case is resolved, students could still be arrested for other reasons and their legal status can still be removed, revoked if they are convicted of a crime carrying a prison term of more than a year. Most courts, most courts hearing these types of cases, they've granted protections to the person suing. But White said the government's actions, quote, wreaked havoc not only on the lives of the plaintiffs, but on other non immigrants in the US on student visas. Now, White, who was nominated by George W. Bush, a Republican, as we know, issued the nationwide injunction sought by attorneys for about two dozen students who sued after the legal status was abruptly terminated in early April by Immigration and Customs Enforcement. And it's this sort of shows you like the difference between not all judges follow the party of the, you know, president that appoints them, but how much it's changed from the George W. Bush administration, what a Republican and a conservative judge was then to what a Trump judge is now.
Allison Gill
Mm, yes, indeed. It certainly has more good news, by the way, from Politico. A federal judge has blocked the Trump administration from firing thousands of workers from the Department of Education, ruling that the announced terminations were a thinly veiled effort to dismantle the entire department without congressional approval. U.S. district Judge Myung Jun rejected the administration's claim that the thousands of terminations announced in March were a bid for efficiency. In fact, they had deeply disrupted services for students, families and states, making processes less efficient. That's according to the judge. June said the massive reductions were more clearly aimed at carrying out Trump's campaign trail promise to eliminate the department altogether, something the judge said would be illegal without congressional approval. June noted that Trump issued an executive order in March directing the Secretary of Education to take all necessary steps to facilitate the closure of the department. And here's a quote. The record abundantly reveals that the defendant's true intention is to effectively dismantle the department without an authorizing statute. That's what June, who is a Biden appointee, wrote in an 88 page opinion, quote, the idea that the defendant's actions are merely a reorganization is plainly not true. Pretty soon, these cases about dismantling congressionally created agencies that we've been talking about, Dana and I mentioned at the top of the show, are going to make their way to the Supreme Court. And I'm very curious as to how they're going to rule. I have no faith in them at the Supreme Court, but I'm very curious as to what they'll say.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, me too. I've got more good news. And we know him. We love him. Minnesota Governor Tim Walls. He says Democrats should not abandon defending rights of transgender people as they figure out how to win again. The former Democratic nominee for vice president spoke to the independent about the issue, which became a major weapon in Donald Trump's campaign ads against former Vice President Kamala Harris. And I promise you it's going to happen again, he said. It's a mistake, he insisted. And here's the thing we need to tell people. Your cost of eggs, your health care being denied, your homeowner's insurance, your lack of getting warned on tornadoes coming has nothing to do with someone's gender. In recent months, some Democrats have hinted that Democrats should avoid talking about transgender athletes from participating in women's sports. Governor Gavin Newsom of California told Turning Point USA his head Charlie Kirk on his podcast that trans participation in women's sports was unfair. Quote, I think we have to figure out how to not get sucked in and allow that to be the focal point only and that we can multitask and we can hold several things simultaneously. That's what he said. I want to say right now, please don't take any sort of advice right now from Gavin Newsom about the trans community or basically on anything. I hope to God that he's not our nominee because it would be very bad showing for the Democrats. Yeah, I do want to say something, if I can, before you go the next story, just because it talks about transgender sports. It might take a minute, but I want people to hear this. I know oftentimes there is a struggle to discuss the issue of trans athletes in sports with people who do not understand or do not agree. And oftentimes it seems like it's an us and a them. You either believe they should be in sports no matter what, or you believe they shouldn't. And there's some, you know, variance in between. And I think a lot of those people who have questions about trans athletes in sports or believe that there should be restrictions based on levels of testosterone, let's say for trans women that are participating, those have already been instilled in certain areas in the NCAA by, by science. They've decided what is fair. So if you have someone in your life, ask them if they believe in a full and complete ban, meaning 12 year olds can't play sports with their friends if they happen to identify as trans or non binary. Not high school, not college, young kids, because more often than not most of them would be like, well, no, that's ridiculous. Of course a 6 or 7, 8 year old should just be able to play sports. There's no separation between gender or sex. And in young kids yet that right there is an opening because then you can say to them, so you don't believe in a complete ban. They do. So if you don't come with us and help us figure out what works, it does not have to be us against them. If there is someone you're talking to that believes that, there's a conversation around this and there should not be a complete ban, but they don't know what the answer is. Even if they're conservative, even if they voted for Trump, but they're willing to have this conversation, show them that they are not that different from you and there's a conversation to be had.
Allison Gill
I love it. That's such a good point. I'm glad you, I'm glad you.
Tana Goldberg
I learned it because I'll be honest, there's sometimes when people ask me, I don't know how to argue this because I do believe trans women are women and they should be able to participate in sport and trans men are men and they should be able to participate in sport. But I also know that there are guidelines put in place at collegiate level in the Olympics that are being followed. So we don't believe that no matter what, we believe that there should be stipulations decided by the ncaa, the Olympics and that they should be followed.
Allison Gill
And they do have those.
Tana Goldberg
Exactly. So that when they're like, oh, they believe that trans people should be able to play and there's no restrictions no matter what. That's not true. And that's not what Democrats are fighting for anyway. No fighting for fairness. And they think we are against fairness. And we're not. We're not.
Allison Gill
Appreciate it. All right, one last good little bit of schadenfreude here. I love this. This is from Reuters. Greenland on Wednesday handed a 30 year mining permit to a Danish French mining group Europe, aiming to extract a moon like rock that could offer a climate friendly alternative to aluminum production. The Arctic island, which is rich in minerals, oils and natural gas and has long been seen as a potential resource frontier, has drawn international attention since Trump is trying to buy it and or take it by force. Private US business delegations have visited the island since the beginning of the Year, but formal dialogue with the new US Administration, that's not happening. However, dialogue with European partners was progressing. Quote, there's no doubt that the dialogue with both the EU and Denmark is going smoother. This is not only the result of the noise made by the US Administration, but also the result of several years of intensified cooperation between Europe and Greenland. This is hilarious to me. This is why Trump wants Greenland is for all of these resources. And with the shit he's making up about, you know, oh, we need it for strategic, I don't know, sheep purposes. I don't know. He's. He's lying about the military something. Yeah, he wants that. He wants all the money.
Tana Goldberg
And also, from what I understand, the control of the waters to the north of it.
Allison Gill
Yes, yes. And so for. For Greenland to be like, nope, you. And then to sign a deal with Europe. I know you love it so much. Good job, Greenland. All right, everybody. It's time for some good trouble.
Tana Goldberg
What are you guys doing?
Allison Gill
All right, everybody, your good trouble is twofold today, should you choose to accept it. First of all, pretty simple. Use the 5 calls app or just pick up the phone. Call your senators. Remind them that Trump doesn't have to get reelected, but they do. And they need to keep their hands off our Medicare, Medicaid, food assistance, climate tax credits, because we are not okay with them taking our money to give themselves and their donors tax breaks. Call them every day, pick a time and take a minute. Keep reminding them who they work for. Remind them that we are the government, not them, and that they can be replaced if they abandon us on this.
Tana Goldberg
Absolutely.
Allison Gill
The second thing, and you're going to love this, Dana, because I love this. This just came in last minute. This is from a listener named Stephanie. Good trouble idea. The army has released tickets for the June 14th Trump birthday parade. It sure would be a shame if we all got tickets and then didn't show up. Tickets are free, and each mobile phone number gets two tickets apiece. I've got my tickets. You should get yours. I can't wait to not show up. Thanks for all that you ladies do. So, yeah, get your tickets to the June 14th D.C. military Parade. We'll have a link in the show notes. And then get your tickets to the no Kings rally here in San Diego show and actually come to it. And we'll see you at that personal event. I. I can't wait. It's going to be so much fun down here.
Tana Goldberg

C
Not on this side of a copenhagen brothel. Hello, Dr. Gill, it's so good to see you. I wish I had a plane to give you. Hello. Hello.
Allison Gill
Oh, thank you. Yes, I wish you had a plane to give me as well. My current Gulfstream 5 is kind of old, so I was hoping, you know, for a new one. But if you. If you can't give me a plane.
C
Would you settle for a 15 year old Qatari royal family jet that reeks of orgies and arms sales? Can I get you something like that maybe?
Allison Gill
Oh, yeah. Circumventing Congress for arms sales is. Is in the jet. That's. That's super cool.
C
I remember that emoluments clause. Remember that little thing we used to have before this human Chernobyl of a presidency melted the rule of law? Good times. Good times. Yeah. I mean, we are the. The dirtiest thing about this bribe plane is not even the emoluments clause. It's that they are laundering this bribe through the Department of Defense like it's a dirty yacht in a Russian oligarch's fourth divorce settlement. It is. And it's gonna go to Trump's presidential library when it's all done. Isn't that great? Which means that the presidential library probably won't have any books, but it will have a Runway. I can't wait to donate to this. It's beautiful.
Allison Gill
Yeah, and that brings up a really good point, that they're actually just laundering this stuff through the Department of Defense, and pretty soon they're going to launder cryptocurrency through the treasury and the FDIC as part of the billionaire bailout bill. I refuse to call it what. What it's actually called.
C
And you know what? If Robert Mueller had focused on laundering Russian money through New York real estate like he said he was going to.
Allison Gill
He would have been fired on week two.
C
Probably. But the public would have a bit more of an idea what's actually going on right now. You know, I really thought, I mean, I knew that in his first term we'd have civics lessons. I knew people would learn about things. I just didn't think it would be things like Ivermectin and hydroxychloroquine and the effects of untreated syphilis on the human brain after many decades. But we never quite got that money laundering lesson we got. And now it's going to happen. I mean, Jimmy Carter gave up the peanut farm. Right. Hillary Clinton gave back a 400 necklace from Bangladesh. The Founding Fathers turn down elephant tusks. Trump's like, forget the tusk. I want the whole elephant and I want to ride it into Qatar and charge taxpayers for the saddle. And if it's okay, my slower son Eric would like to kill it in a caged hunt when we're done, if that's. If that's possible. Thank you very much.
Allison Gill
Well, yeah, every month, one a month. Oh, yeah.
C
Oh, yeah. More caged hunts. Yeah. Let's never forget these are people who kill elephants for recreation. Please never forget that.
Allison Gill
Yeah. Let's talk about the bailout bill passed in the middle of the night because, of course, they're very proud of it and they want to see all the debate happen during prime time. No, prime time for them is overnight, middle of the night to debate this bill. We saw Jim Jordan not understanding a lot of things that were in this bill or understanding them and trying to obfuscate them.
C
That's more like it.
Allison Gill
Let's talk about what they're cutting so that they can give themselves tax breaks. We're talking Medicare, we're talking Medicaid, we're talking snap, by the way, tens of thousands of active duty service members currently.
C
Right. And their families.
Allison Gill
And their families rely on this because they're so underpaid.
C
But again, that's like cutting federal jobs. A huge portion of that are American veterans. Republicans don't care about veterans any more than they care about immigration or abortion. They care about power and they say what they need. That's it.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
As billionaires do. They see them as dollar signs that should be in their pocket and not anyone else's.
C
This is peak Maga Christianity, this bill. I mean, here's what it is. And it's fitting that it's Trump's little weak Johnson presenting it. You know, I think it's always beautiful when a guy who thinks the earth is 6,000 years old gets to rewrite the federal budget. This bill, Allison, is basically like the GOP's GoFundMe for the top 0.1%. If a crooked megachurch youth pastor is given our economy, that's this. It slashes Medicaid, cuts renewable energy subsidies, guts social spending, and yet somehow, in Spite of all this doge BS, it increases the deficit by $5 trillion. It is a Russian nesting doll of corporate giveaways and environmental destruction and poor people punching. And it's everything we could have predicted. And Mike Johnson like spent all week telling Republicans, we're going to land this plane. We're going to land this plane. Dude, this is not a landing. This is a nose dive into a flaming pile of debt and deregulation. And this plane doesn't have wings, it has horns. And it's on fire. It's going to add trillions to the debt. I mean, 5 trillion more than the status quo. And as you know, Dr. Gill, these are the same Republicans who spent years clutching their pearls anytime Obama or Biden bought pencils for poor kids.
Allison Gill
Yeah, and nothing that returns on investment either.
C
Oh, nothing.
Allison Gill
This isn't like when we passed the inflation Reduction act and saw tons of money savings coming in from the climate programs.
C
But that's not what Republicans do. They don't govern. They, they reward donors and they amass more power and they grease the skids for their future careers as lobbyists. That's.
Allison Gill
Yeah, which has no return on care about America.
C
They don't care about it. They care about power. That is Christian nationalism. That is the Republican Party.
Allison Gill
That's it. Even, even Josh Hawley, who's against this bill is only against it because he's afraid he'll lose power because 40% of his constituents rely on Medicaid.
C
Exactly. And honestly, I mean, the Democrats are making a good amount of noise complaining about this because, well, it's evil. I mean, they're slashing food stamps and Trump is saying it's okay because the food prices are going down. Like he just told reporters, gas is $1.99. All prices in his head are imaginary. Is cutting renewable energy because, you know, forward thinking economy is going all in on coal while China is building solar panels like with freaking warp drive, closing the Department of Education even though they've just been told they're not allowed to. And then the Department of Government Efficiency, which is like, you know, the deep state with a MAGA hat and they're only adding more money to the deficit. Joe Biden deported more people. Joe Biden cut more money off the deficit. This whole scam is nothing but a blueprint for trickle down kleptocracy.
Allison Gill
Right, but if the people don't know.
C
That, they don't know it.
Allison Gill
Then they're completely unaware of it because of the propaganda and the lies.
C
Oh, it's as real as Stage nine cancer, Allison. It's as real to them as stage nine cancer.
Allison Gill
Yeah. And, and, and von Hindenburg wasn't amazing, but nobody blamed him for, for Hitler's rise. They were like, nobody had any chance against Hitler's propaganda machine.
C
Yeah. And again, it's triggering massive cuts to Medicare on top of making the largest Medicaid and Affordable Care act cuts ever. And so that's why Democrats are making some noise about it. But in general, I have never seen a Republican bill that was this much of a midterms gift to the Democratic Party as this. I mean, like, I'm a bit astonished. Like, I'm always shocked at how these people don't care about how they're going to look in history books. Right. That still shocks me. I'm a bit shocked now. They don't care how they're going to look to their own constituents. And I guess they're all really hoping that low income white people in red states are just going to sit home the next election cycle.
Allison Gill
Well, that's kind of why I'm hoping that the Senate sort of sees this. We've already seen folks like Holly come out against it, that maybe, you know, I had this, the House, I can't. You can't rely on Republicans in the House for anything.
C
Correct.
Allison Gill
However, I've, you know, we've said for months there's going to come a day, a reckoning when the electeds in Congress have to decide whether they're going to kowtow to Trump, who doesn't have to win another election, or the people. Right. Whether he steals it or, you know, whether he doesn't run again. He's, he's not going to be relying on votes.
C
And do you think we've reached a point now where red state voters literally don't care how much white Republican politicians abuse them as long as those white Republican politicians can blame it on enough brown people and trans people and immigrants and I mean, like, like that's the core of it.
Allison Gill
Right.
C
They can burn down your house and say, hey, your house was built by a woke architect. And the homeless red staters will say, well, good, good fighting. Thank you.
Allison Gill
Yeah, no, I've, we've called this back in the COVID days, I called it the Longshanks effect. I don't if you remember during Braveheart with Longshanks is like archers. And the guy's like, but we'll hit our own troops. He's like, yeah, but we'll hit theirs too. And they were just kind of counting on more Democrats dying than Republicans. And that's sort of what they're doing here as well.
C
They did it with COVID They did it with COVID They killed their own side and it didn't hurt them. They killed their own side. I mean, every study shows that the counties that went for Trump in 2020 suffered far greater losses of life than the counties that went for Biden. And it didn't matter. That stupid was still strong enough.
Allison Gill
Right. And that's kind of what we're seeing here. They, they, people hate Democrats so much that they're willing to lose their house, lose their health care, lose their Medicaid, lose their benefits, just to stick it to Democrats and way it's always been. And so I've said we're going to see. Hopefully we'll see this reckoning. We didn't see it in the House when, when these electeds have to make a choice because they actually have to get reelected to retain power, but Donald Trump does not.
C
So, I mean, look, they got, they got people, they got poor white folks who didn't own slaves to fight for the plantation owners by saying the Yankees are coming. They got people with no interest in what happened in Vietnam to go die because they said the Communists are coming. And now they're going to get people to cut their own funding for the poorest white people in their own state because they're saying the drag queen story hour is coming. Like, it's just. You'll never go broke deceiving, gullible white folks in this country.
Allison Gill
Yeah, that's how they divide the. The lower class. They make it a culture war so that they can avoid the class war.
C
It works. Thank God we got real progressives like Andrew Cuomo fighting back. Am I right, Dr. Gill? Am I right? Gonna be crazy here.
Allison Gill
Funny. We could have had Maya Wiley anyway.
C
Should have had Maya Wiley.
Allison Gill
Before I let you go, I want to talk about something else that blows my mind. That people who claim that they are Christians can get behind, and that is the single largest illegalization of human beings in this country, in the history of this country. And that is this Supreme Court, bought and paid for through dark money, taking away temporary protected status for as many as 350,000 Venezuelans just taking it away. And I think that that is, correct me if I'm wrong, antithetical to the teachings of Christ.
C
Imagine being in this country, legally invited here because of persecution and danger in your own country, and you're living here and you're working, and it's so dangerous back in your home country that the U.S. state Department puts out an advisory telling Americans it is not safe to go back to Venezuela. It is not safe to visit as a tourist. You run the risk of capture and murder. And then suddenly the Supreme Court pulls out the rug and says, you know what? Now you're in this country illegally. We don't care that you're working and paying taxes and raising a family. That's what the Supreme Court just did this week to Venezuela. We are the land of the free. Unless you are fleeing tyranny while brown and got protected status under the wrong administration. This Supreme Court, and you know this, they're like the Federalist Society Make A Wish Foundation. They just greenlit this whole plan to yank legal protections from 350,000 people living here legally because they fled persecution and famine and extrajudicial executions back home. And these people, I mean, it's beyond how betrayed they are. I mean, why would anyone enter into a treaty with this country at this point? But the. The court just ruled like, like, like a mafia don pointing silently at a kneecap that you people who fled torture and starvation can now be kidnapped and deported right back into it. The cruelty isn't a bug. It's the entire user interface. And again, it's too dangerous for Americans to visit. But Venezuelans who escaped that horror show to build lives here are being sent back.
Allison Gill
Yeah, and I don't know if you know this, but people who have been trying to go through the immigration system. This is a nationwide effort. ICE is partnering with the Department of Justice and dismissing the cases against immigrants so that they can rearrest them and put them through expedited deportation.
C
I mean, it's so hateful. It's so evil. And again, they despise the teachings of Jesus as much as they despise the U.S. constitution. Because you know this, Allison. If these Venezuelans were white with British accents and a vineyard vine sticker on their laptop, they get a fast pass to permanent residency. But they're brown and they're Spanish speaking. Eight million people have fled Venezuela since 2014. Maduro just won another fake election last year. Our government is saying that Venezuela is so dangerous, we shouldn't even fly over it.
Allison Gill
Right.
C
You know who else sent people back into countries they were fleeing? The Gestapo. If these Republicans are tired of being compared to the Nazis, they should stop doing Nazi stuff like detaining people based on tattoos or detaining people based on speech they don't like or ignoring due process or renditioning people to foreign torture prisons. And again, it was temporary status. It's in the name. It's temporary until it's safe to return. And they're just like. Well, sounds like a great time for a family reunion. Pack your bags. Hope you like torture 350,000 humans taxing.
Allison Gill
And we have, let's say a pregnant mother makes a incredibly dangerous journey to flee that kind of violence, to come to the United States and seek a better life for her and her child. And ICE posts up outside of the delivery room ready to catch the baby, send it to a tender age facility by a private owned prison contractor and deport the mother back to the treachery she came from.
C
That's it.
Allison Gill
But, but we will take a brain dead woman and force her to incubate a fetus for seven months in her dead body.
C
Yeah.
Allison Gill
In order to preserve that life. The juxtaposition of those two things I can't wrap my head around.
C
Oh, and if you're a domestic terrorist who attacks our capital to throw out our government for a lie and you are legally killed in the midst of your law breaking, we'll pay reparations to your family. We finally found reparations that racists believe in. Alison. Happened this week.
Allison Gill
Yeah. And how about that video that Donald Trump showed at, in the Oval Office? Oh, I mean imagine if, I mean how many times Queensia, Imagine if Joe Biden had shown like the dancing baby video from the early aughts. So look at what they're doing to the babies. And showed that in the Oval Office.
C
Yeah, it was America's not Naziist home videos. I mean like, like literally that whole thing was like a clan prank show. This poor man, he comes here thinking that he's gonna have a discussion about trade with Donald Trump. He really thought it. And instead. Yeah, it's, it's just this, I mean this Klan show, it was insane what happened yesterday. But I gotta say President Ramaphosa knew what he was doing. He, he knew that it was a Klan prank show and he played it beautifully by saying, I wish I had a plane to give you.
Tana Goldberg
Right.
C
Showed what the entire world thinks about this. And Trump didn't even pick up that he had lost the entire event. And by the way, Trump says he cares about this land seizures, but he took land by an eminent domain and he claims he really cares about human rights in South Africa. But don't you remember just way, way, way, just last week he gave that speech to the murdering Saudis on how the US isn't going to lecture other countries about human rights anymore if hypocrisy were Hair. He'd be a wookie.
Allison Gill
I've never heard you say that. That's. That's good. Is that. Has that been in your pocket this whole time, or.
C
I don't. You know. You know, I just. For me, it's just the racism is so stark, and yet people who don't mind racism don't see it. And that's what is making so many decent people crazy right now. Yeah, I mean, when the two. When the two white South Africans spoke to him, he was so deferential. You got to watch the whole tape. It's astonishing.
Allison Gill
Yeah, agreed. And we're gonna have to figure out how to counter message this. We're doing so good. So far, so good in the elections. We're winning by 10 points. 13 points. We're flipping. Not flipping, but eating into 15. 20 points.
C
Everyone needs to remember, as bad as it is, they are holding a razor thin majority. Democrats only need a three seat pickup to win back the House majority in 2026. Three seats. Good God.
Allison Gill
I think we can do it. I mean, in 2018, what'd we get? 40 something?
C
We could do it next and Kamala Harris could be elected. If it was next.
Allison Gill
I wish we could call snap elections. Wouldn't that be great?
C
Yeah.
Allison Gill
Yeah. Oh, that'd be so great.
C
Boy, these coalition governments know what they're doing, huh? Go, Brit.
Allison Gill
That pesky electoral college.
C
I mean, every time Canada just did exactly what the Democrats tried to do.
Allison Gill
Canada, Romania, Australia, I mean, we. We've seen it. We've seen it everywhere. Yeah, and we're jealous. And I hope that jealousy seeps in and leads us to get those three seats at least. We need to flip the house. All right, my friend. It's always, always a pleasure to talk to you. Everybody. You can check out more. If you can't get enough John Fugle saying, which I cannot at least get enough of his hair, you have to check out. Tell me Everything on Sirius XM progress channel 127. It's weeknights at 9pm Eastern, 6 Pacific.
C
I just cut it all off. I just cut it all off. I look even more like a lesbian librarian from a Cinemax movie in the 80s right now.
Allison Gill
It's still beautiful. Feathered and lethal. Kyle. Anyway, thank you so very much. We appreciate your time. And everybody, stick around. We'll be right back with the good news. Everybody, welcome back. It's time for the good news.
C
Who likes good news?
Allison Gill
Everyone. Then good news, everyone. And if you have any good news, confessions, corrections. You want to play any of our Animal guessing games. We have a ton what the mutt, find the cat, opine on the bovine, what the hecwine, what the hell is in that shell? What's the model of your axolotl? Basically, when you pay your POD pet tariff, if you want us to guess what the animal is or the breed, that's the games that we play. And we've been playing them forever. But we suck at them. But we still we're really just trying to get you to pay your POD pet tariff and your good news stories, confessions, corrections, shout out loved ones, small businesses in your area, self shout outs, shout outs to government programs that have helped you or a loved one like Medicare, Medicare. Basically everything that they're trying to gut to give themselves tax breaks. Any wonderful government program that has helped you or a loved one, we want to hear about that. Including and especially student debt relief because this bill also cancels that. So if you are have recently had your student debt forgiven, we would love to hear from you. And again, all you got to do to get your stuff right on the air is, is to pay your podbet tariff. And we can play any of those guessing games I mentioned at the beginning or just send in a photo of your pet and we're happy to just enjoy the photo.
Tana Goldberg
Absolutely.
Allison Gill
Sometimes we can just do that. Any animal. Also, if you don't have a pet, send us an adoptable pet in your area. If you don't have a pet, we can see if we can find him a home. And we're also doing bird watching, which means a photo of an actual bird or you and your family and friends flipping the bird to Trump and Musk Properties. We love those photos. Everyone's got one in their phone somewhere and everyone's got a baby picture in their phone somewhere. So grab those, send them to us dailybeanspod.com click on contact first up from Proud mama pronoun she and her Today my daughter graduated from high school with not only a high school diploma but also an associate's degree from our local community college. This was made possible by many state and federal programs.
Tana Goldberg
Nice.
Allison Gill
First, North Carolina's cooperative, innovative high school program, most commonly known as Early College High Schools. This initiative started in 2005. These schools allow students to dual enroll in both high school and college at the same time. All students end up with transferable college credit and many graduate with a degree or a certificate. These aren't elite schools for gifted students, but schools that target low income students, first generation college students, minority students, and other students who are often underrepresented on college campuses. In 2019, our Republican legislature tried to reduce funding for those schools and programs, but they remain highly popular in the state and they ultimately scrapped that from their budget bill. Not that they're great on funding education in general, but we're very glad we've kept this program. My next shout out goes to the Department of Education, which got saved today temporarily by a court. My daughter is autistic and severely dyslexic. She has used a variety of supports and accommodations made available to her through IDEA, which is Individuals with Disabilities Education act and Section 504. One of those is a lesser known program called Bookshare. Bookshare is paid for by the Department of Education and provides audiobooks to students with print disabilities. This includes students who are visually impaired, physically unable to use traditional textbooks, and those with profound learning disabilities. Bookshare is free to K through 12 students who qualify and they will make any book into an audiobook with a computerized voice. Kind of like Siri. That program has allowed my daughter to access her textbooks, required reading, and just for fun, reading independently. So I know. I love that. A huge shout out goes to all of her teachers. Teachers who gave her extra time that she needed to process and learn all the material. Teachers who sought out the right technology to help her be independent. Teachers who laughed with her when she turned in a paper on the Testicle Institute because her speech to Tech software interpreted Tuskegee as Testicle and then gently suggested she might use a human proofreader on important pieces of writing.
Tana Goldberg
That's funny.
Allison Gill
Teacher. Teachers who believed in her when she was failing and teachers who believed in her when she was exceeding. We owe an incredible debt to our teachers, paraprofessionals, librarians, bus drivers, and so many more who nurtured her through the last 13 years. Final shout out to my daughter. She worked hard. She believed that she could. She didn't let failure stop her. She was willing to keep trying even when it seemed like she was the only one who struggled old. She persevered. She's amazing. As my POD Pet baby tariff, I've included a newborn picture of my daughter 19 years ago. Look at this sweet baby.
Tana Goldberg
So sweet. Thank you for this.
Allison Gill
I love this submission so much.
Tana Goldberg
The whole thing takes a village, right? Sure does. All right, this is from Pam. Pronouns she and her. The New Jersey assembly today passed by a vote of 77. Zero. Yes, that. That's zero. As in all Dems and all Republicans supported Bill A5264, which supports easier solar permitting.
Allison Gill
All right.
Tana Goldberg
Wow. A5264 will streamline the permitting process and cut costs to help more New Jersey households adopt solar. This in turn makes our grid more resilient and reduces our energy bills. Wow. Maybe they should talk to Texas now. It goes to the New Jersey senate as Bill S4100. So please encourage all your New Jersey listeners to call their senators to support this legislation. It's now called S4100. They can find their New Jersey senators here. We're going to have a link in the show notes for you. My pod pet tax. I'm sharing pictures of my then baby who turned 18 this past Sunday and graduates from high school in June and is attending Rutgers this fall.
Allison Gill
This is the second baby graduating from high school today.
Tana Goldberg
I love it. Isn't he adorable? Thanks again for all you do in these fought times. Swear more. I know I am. I'm glad to be part of this community. Yeah. Pam, look at that face.
Allison Gill
And then look, there he is.
Tana Goldberg
Young man as an adult in a tux.
Allison Gill
That's very nice. That's very, very cool. 77 nothing. I love it. And, and, and this is like this makes sense, right? Because Republicans who are money minded, these solar companies are going to make more money installing more solar panels. Absolutely right. And the Democrats are like yay, solar because we're not using fossil fuels. I mean, think about how much money Perry, what was his name? Rick Perry made in Texas with wind farms.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
You know they smart Republicans understand that the money of the future is your manufacturer.
Tana Goldberg
Smart Republican. Yeah, every once in a while.
Allison Gill
Originally.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, that's fair.
Allison Gill
Before he got Trumpified.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, that's fair. And he forgot the Department of Energy when he asked about the Free Department.
Allison Gill
Probably because he knew how much money he made.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, no kidding. That actually makes a lot of sense. I'm sorry.
Allison Gill
But yeah, I should, I shouldn't call them smart Republicans. A good greedy Republican knows there's money to be made out there from climate friendly green energy. Anyway, this is wonderful. I'm so glad this passed. So yes, if you're in New Jersey, in New Jersey, call your senators to make sure they pass. What is it? S4100. All right, next up from Tish. I'm a longtime listener from back in the MSW days. You have been keeping me sane and informed. In general, I describe Grand County, Colorado as red. It's a very rural place nestled between the Continental Divide and the Colorado River. We host ranchers, recreators, miners and sportsmen. However, we often unite for A good cause. Our animal shelter was able to break ground on a new facility thanks to diligent volunteer efforts by the community. Animals, usually dogs often escape from their homes or are found wandering. There are usually community efforts to rescue them with assistance and support from our Animal Control and Shelter division. If you would like more information and or to donate, here is their website. It's gcpetpals.org we'll have a link for you. There are a couple other rescue operations I'd like to highlight. Mountain dog rescue@mountainpetrescue.org Rescues larger dogs usually from Oklahoma and Texas and direct fosters them and adopts them in this mountain community. There's Soul dog rescue@souledog.org although based in Colorado, serves tribal lands in New Mexico with rescues and spay clinics.
Tana Goldberg
Amazing.
Allison Gill
Mostly volunteer run. I'm sharing a photo of my dog Maggie who was a foster fail from our mountain pet rescue. Oh beautiful. Beautiful photo.
Tana Goldberg
I mean seriously awesome.
Allison Gill
Thank you so much for this. Tish.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, this one's from Angelique. No pronouns given. Hi, ag, DG and the good folks of the beans. A kitchen table listener here. Non working professional in the post production creative industry here in New York City. I've also been a volunteer mentor with New York City SALT and there's going to be a link in the show notes for that. For nearly a decade, this organization serves underprivileged high school students using photography to teach life skills and build confidence, all while helping the next generation discover their voice. These incredible students go on and get into rit, nyu, sva, just to name a few. This past school year alone they were featured in the Kelly Clarkson show and even had Annie Lebowitz as a guest speaker. A guest teacher. Excuse me. Yes, you read that correctly. No I did not. Which is very funny. That's really.
Allison Gill
That's like double funny right there.
Tana Goldberg
Right? That was. That was good timing. So. So why am I writing to you today? Earlier this month the National Endowment of the Arts terminated their grant effectively ending a years long partnership. This organization is made up of working professionals who are deeply committed to making a difference. And we do. Next week is our end of the year show featuring the students photography work. We would love for you to come. And if you're unable to attend, a donation of any size would mean the world to us. For potpet tariff please see my derby forever. A Tuxi kitten whom I can never tell if there are brain cells in there. Love you ladies. Have a lovely long weekend. And this does look like a derpy kitty.
Allison Gill
Yeah. I don't know there's much going on behind those eyes Angelique, but what a sweet baby. The ear fold inside out as well is great.
Tana Goldberg
I do have questions to it. Yeah about the next week is our end of the year show. I'm wondering if it's just one day or if it's to stay up. I'm gonna have to do some research because I'm actually gonna I'm in. I'll be in New York but not again until June 2nd. But I would go check this out if I could.
Allison Gill
Yeah I think if we just go to nyc salt.org we can probably see I'm gonna quick. Yeah you keep going.
Tana Goldberg
I'll keep going story. I'm gonna look it up.
Allison Gill
Yep. We got one more submission here from Truth, justice and Objective Reality. He him though I sometimes use the editorial we dearly been lovett haha. At 3am on January 14th, my son in law and Mango, one of my family's cats, left their home in the Bronx in an overloaded old Denali. They picked me up and we headed for the Mexican border. My son in law came to the US without documents when he was 19. He lived here peacefully and tax paying Lee for 25 years. He married my daughter for love and she him. They're raising two daughters now, 13 and 11. I'm required by law to call them brilliant and beautiful, but they really are. He's full of love, hard working and a man I'm proud to call family. But in January he headed back to southern Mexico, determined to get out of Dodge before the inauguration of Donald Trump. So pronouns me, myself and I. We reached the Rio Grande at dusk on January 16 and made it across after a short delay by an attempted shakedown by corrupt Mexican customs officers right out of central casting. They demanded that we wire them $2,000 but quickly returned our passports and told us to split when their supervisor showed up. We said goodbye in Rio Bravo the next morning he pushed on south. My friends drove me back across into the US to fly home. My daughter, granddaughters and granddogs and the remaining cat will move and join him after the school year ends. Every day now it becomes clearer that he and my daughter made the right decision. I want to be clear, this is a national tragedy, but not a tragedy for our family. A huge family and other good things are waiting for us in Mexico. My wife and I look forward to spending a lot of time with them over the coming years. That's the good news. Life goes on. Mostly. People grow and people change. Mostly in the meantime, we carry water and chop wood and resist. For podpet tariff, I offer Mango a dog in a cat suit on high altitude patrol in our Rio Bravo hotel room. His adorable idiot brother Pinto, who is mostly Staffordshire terrier, of course, and adorable psycho sister Frida, a staffy mix disguised as a generic yellow dog. When man goes at home, he sleeps on top of the dog pile or supervisor as the dogs when they go for a walk. And I have to say, truth, justice and objective reality. This is an incredible submission.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, it sure is.
Allison Gill
Thank you for this. And Carrie, Waterchop wood, great reference to one of my favorite substacks.
Tana Goldberg
So thank you for that, the whole thing. I did a little research on New York salt photography programs and it might just be me, but I can't find the end of the year one. This one.
Allison Gill
The final show.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, the final show. There's, there's some, a lot of information on their website. We'll have a link on that. So maybe just a little bit of research, more than I have time for. But the New York solid, It's on West 26th street in New York City. So I believe that the end of the year show is there, but I wish I knew if it was just a one night thing, so.
Allison Gill
Well, Angelique, if you could send us information on when and where the show, the year end show is, let us know, please, please, please. All right, everybody, thank you so much for your good news. Thank you so much for sticking with us all week. I know it's been a long week. We'll have another week next week. They just keep coming. I can't have. I've written some sternly worded letters and they just keep happening the weeks. So thank you very much for your support. Really appreciate it. And we're just going to keep doing everything we can to bring you the news and keep our community, keep our community close.
Tana Goldberg
Yeah, absolutely. Absolutely.
Allison Gill
Final thoughts, my friend.
Tana Goldberg
Just, you know, I'm going to be gone for a week. I'll be out of the country working and Alison's going to hold down the fort. But because of our brilliant listener, we have some recorded things in the can.
Allison Gill
That I think Allison's going to be.
Tana Goldberg
Able to add to the podcast while I'm gone. So you might hear my voice and then get very confused, but I'll be there. Just, you know, take care of yourselves and each other other. And we're going to continue to fight this fight. Just know that there are people doing things behind the scenes and you are doing things, you are doing things. And maybe people out in the streets. So make sure that you attend a no Kings rally if you can. I know that's not until June 14th. 14th. But up until then, find something. Do some good trouble. Call your senators, please make sure this big beautiful bill does not get passed in the Senate.
Allison Gill
Yeah. And if you can make it out to the San Diego no Kings rally, I'll be the host. It's going to be beautiful. It's San Diego. It's on the waterfront front. We got. We were able to get the stage right in front of the admin building downtown.
Tana Goldberg
Well done.
Allison Gill
It's just going to be fantastic. And I can't wait to see Everybody there. It's June 14th. All right, everybody, we will see you next week. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health and take care of your family. I've been ag.
Tana Goldberg
I've been dg.
