Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Wednesday, March 4, 2026. Today, the Supreme Court made two shadow docket rulings Monday night that will negatively impact trans people and black and brown voters. The Trump administration does a 180 on dropping their appeals against major law firms. Howard Lutnick says he's going to testify behind closed doors in the Epstein matter. Kristi Noem got hung out to dry in a Senate hearing. Trump admits he has no evacuation plan for the Middle east as he comes up with yet another excuse for starting the war with Iran. And the New York Attorney general, Letitia James has ordered hospitals to resume care for transgender minors. I'm Alison Gill.
Dana Goldberg

There's a learning curve with Patreon. So we're getting up and running and it'll more and more content will be added.
Alison Gill
That's the whole point of getting in on the ground floor, is that we learn to build the steps. But, yeah, it's just an incredible community there, and it's growing and growing and growing. It's going to be pretty massive. So you definitely want to get over there and sign up. Also, I just got some breaking news, Dana. I didn't even read this in the headlines because this is just happening right now. The Washington Post is reporting that Mohammed bin Salman of Saudi Arabia, mbs. Right. Bonesaw Mohammed bin Bonsa, actually him and Bibi Netanyahu lobbied Donald Trump to start this war. There were actually four private phone calls between MBS and Donald Trump in the days leading up to the attack. So that's where this came from. So when you and I talked about, when like Rachel Maddow talked about, for example, who benefits here? And we were talking about the Saudis, Israel, Qatar, uae. It is the Saudis so far that we know about the Saudis and Israel who pushed Donald Trump into this war.
Dana Goldberg
So not surprised other people. You know, Netanyahu has been trying to get other past presidents to start the war and no one was dumb enough to do it. And like I said, I know this benefits. There are a lot of Iranians that Iranians that are very, very happy with what's happening over there. I just hope that the outcome of this is what they deserve to happen. I hope this really does lead to a free Iranian people and not more chaos with another horrible leader.
Alison Gill
Right. I don't know, though, with the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps. You know, as Trump initially said, you should lay down your weapons and hang out with the people and help them form a new government after they murdered a ton of them during a lot of peaceful protests from the Iranian people against the regime and the ayatollah. I don't think that's going to happen, but we are. You know, that's the hope is that something good can come of this. But boy, just what a dangerous and stupid decision to make from somebody who's given him billion, his family billions of dollars. All right.
Dana Goldberg
Yep.
Alison Gill
I also want to talk a little bit about Nome's hearing. We're going to go over some clips, at least the Thom Tillis clips on the beans talk, which you can see on our MSW Media YouTube Chann first, she came out and said that she did not call Alex Preddy a domestic terrorist. She said he engaged in domestic terrorism.
Dana Goldberg
Nope.
Alison Gill
Yeah. And honestly, that's hedging between legal terms of art and vague slop, because domestic terrorist carries with it has very specific legal definitions where engaging in domestic terrorism means that she can round up whomever she wants who they decide are committing domestic terrorism. And so she's hedging there and she's also full of. And that was came up in some questioning from, I believe, Senator Hirono, who was like, what do you have to say to the family of Alex Peretti after calling him a domestic terrorist? And that's what I didn't call him that. I said he engaged in domestic terrorism. Like that's somehow supposed to make the family feel better.
Dana Goldberg
Just. Right. Because it was also not true.
Alison Gill
Right.
Dana Goldberg
So not true.
Alison Gill
And then Thom Tillis, who's retiring. So.
Dana Goldberg
Right. Maybe that's what this is about. Because I'm sure would be nice if he had asked her hard questions before she was confirmed. That would have been nice talk before he voted for her.
Alison Gill
Right. But he brought up the puppy killer thing. He brought. I mean, like he dug. He dug in and really raked her over the coals. And this is why we need term limits, because that's how people should be feel like they should be able to speak that way to members of this administration without having to worry about Being reelected. He's retiring. So he's, you know, you don't want to get your spine on the way out of Congress. You want to get it on your way in. Yeah, but, yeah, so that's all going on. And then, of course, Donald Trump messed up things for Marco Rubio pretty bad because, you know, Marco Rubio yesterday was like, well, the reason we did this is because Israel was going to do it anyway. And then if Israel did it, then Iran was going to attack our bases in the region. So we were being preemptively defensive or something. Just ridiculous.
Dana Goldberg
Saying that they were not an immediate threat.
Alison Gill
Yeah, well, today Donald Trump said, no, I actually strong armed Bibi into it. It was my decision. It was my call. As we're just learning from the Washington Post, that's not the case. But he just shit all over. Marco Rubio's trying to weasel his way out of answering this question. But the best part, Dana, was this reporter. And we'll play this clip of the beans pod. The reporter was like, yesterday you said this, and today Trump said the opposite. And Rubio's like, what are you even talking about? Were you even here? And she's like, yeah, I'm the one who asked you the question. Yeah, yesterday. Like, it was just, I think Marco Rubio is the fall guy. I think for ice, Kristi Noem is the fall guy. We'll see how it all pans out. But it's, it's not going well for them. And now they don't have an evacuation plan, even though they went after Biden super hard for a couple of people getting killed in the evacuation of Afghanistan, which Trump started.
Dana Goldberg
But, you know, sign that right on his way out.
Alison Gill
Yep, sure did. All right, we have a lot of news to get to today, so let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up, this is from Steve vladek. Over his 1first newsletter on substack, he said there's no way to sugarcoat the two unrelated rulings that the Supreme Court handed down simultaneously for some reason, right around 6pm Eastern on Monday night, both of which granted applications for emergency relief. In the first one, Mirabelli v. Bonta, the six Republican appointees voted to put back on hold California state policies that bar teachers from outing their transgender students to their parents, at least as applied to parents who object.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Alison Gill
And in the second, Malliotakis v. Williams, the same justices froze a New York State court ruling that would have required the redrawing of Republican Congresswoman Nicole Maliatakis House district to better represent black and Latino voters in New York. These two rulings have absolutely nothing to do with each other except the majority's principles be damned. Impatience in Mirabelli As Justice Kagan pointed out in her understandably exasperated dissent, the Court reached out to weigh in on a deeply fraught substantive constitutional question, even though there are potentially dozens of cases through which it could have taken up that question on plenary review and received the benefit of full briefing and oral argument. And Even though the 9th Circuit was already hustling to resolve California's appeal of the district court's rulings on the merits, and even though the justices in the majority seem to be endorsing the exact kind of substantive due process reasoning that they've consistently repudiated by using the shadow docket. And in Maliotakis, the Court reached out to block a state trial court ruling before the state Supreme Court even had the chance to rule on it for what appears to be the first time ever. And it did so in order to intervene in New York's congressional elections, something the, quote, Purcell principle supposedly prevents federal courts from doing, at least according to Check's notes, the same Justices ruling in the Texas redistricting case three months ago.
Dana Goldberg
Good lord, it's so infuriating. Yeah.
Alison Gill
Steve goes on to say, we're long past the point at which there are neutral legal principles that can be deployed to persuasively reconcile all the Court's behavior on emergency applications. The Court is intervening because it thinks it can, and because, for whatever reason, it doesn't want to wait in these cases anyway for the ordinary process that would bring these issues to the Court in due course, to whatever extent such a decide first, ask questions later approach might ever make sense in a court with the constitutional and statutory jurisdiction of the Supreme Court in the United States. It makes absolutely no sense when it's applied selectively, let alone in ways that have a remarkable tendency of benefiting Republican elected officials and or conservative coded legal positions like outing transgender students instead, it makes the court at least look like what so many regularly accuse it of being a font of partisan political power, and not much more. One might think that the Court would be at least somewhat interested in disabusing observers of that impression on the emergency docket as much as it seems to be on the merits docket. But then we get rulings like these. You can read this entire piece. He breaks it down even more at the breakdown. And Aaron Reed at Aaron in the Morning also wrote about this decision over on Substack.
Dana Goldberg
Thanks so much, Alison. This Next story is from Axios. The Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, once a Manhattan neighbor of Jeffrey Epstein, voluntarily agreed to an interview with the House Oversight Committee over past ties to the convicted sex offender. Well, said Axios. Lutnick told Axios, I look forward to appearing before the committee. I've done nothing wrong and I want to set the record straight. Lutnick's past association with Epstein has been under growing scrutiny since the Cabinet secretary appeared in the department's files. Those would be the Epstein files, a White House spokesman told Axios. And I quote, secretary Lutnick continues to be a critical asset for Donald Trump, having played a key role in securing major trade and investment deals. The entire Trump administration, including Secretary Lutnick, remains focused on delivering more wins for the American people. The closed door interview with a transcript to be released, will take place in the coming weeks. House Oversight Chair James Comer, the Republican from Kentucky, said in a statement to Axios. Secretary Lutnan Linuk has proactively agreed to appear voluntarily before the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform for a transcribed interview. I commend his demonstrated commitment to transparency and appreciate his willingness, I know, to engage with the committee. I look forward to his testimony. Democrats in both the House and the Senate have been raising pressure on Lutnick. Senate Democrats, in a letter to Lutnick on Friday, asked him to turn over all records of his connection to Epstein and Epstein's allies. Lutnick happens to be 64 years old. He called Comert to tell the chairman that he's willing to address any questions from the committee. Now, Lutnick also testified about Epstein at a Senate appropriations hearing on February 10, and this is what he said. I do not have any relationship with him. I barely had anything to do with that person. I don't have any relationship with him, even though he's admitted to going to the island for lunch with his family and the nannies, including his children. And then another photo has surfaced. We don't know if it's from that time or not where he's with five other dudes at the island. So clearly I have no relationship with him. Is already a lie.
Alison Gill
Yeah. Comer, I commend you for your transparency for appearing at a closed door interview with no press such a present.
Dana Goldberg
So bullshit. Such bullshit.
Alison Gill
Fuck you. Next up from the Times. As we reported yesterday, the Trump administration told a court Monday that it was abandoning its defense of executive orders targeting law firms. But on Tuesday, the Justice Department abruptly changed its position. The Trump administration indicated on Tuesday it planned to renew its defense of executive orders that it had leveled against big law firms. A sharp reversal a day after asking a court for permission to dismiss the cases. In a motion filed with the appeals court in the District of Columbia, where the cases are playing out, the Justice Department formally asked to withdraw its request on Monday to dismiss the cases against four law firms. So Trump goes after these law firms. Four law firms stand up to him. The law firms sue Trump, and then Trump asks the courts to dismiss the cases. And the judge says, no, I'm not dismissing these. And it goes to the appeals court. And Monday, the Trump administration says, we're not going to appeal, it's fine. But now they're changing their whole. They want to bring it back. So this move amounted to a dizzying turnabout in one of Trump's most audacious and, many legal experts say, unconstitutional attempts at subduing potentially powerful adversaries, law firms. It created new uncertainty in a legal profession already roiled by the orders after some of the country's biggest law firms thought they had put to rest a key part of the president's retribution campaign less than a day before. On Monday, the administration asked an appeals court if it could walk away from its appeal of victories that the firms won against the White House. The move was a significant concession by the White House that it could not stand behind its orders. But Tuesday morning, after somebody threw some ketchup, probably the Justice Department abruptly changed its course. In an email to the four firms contesting the executive orders, a department official apologized for the short notice and said it's going to file a motion to withdraw its voluntary dismissal. The email was sent to the FIRM Shortly after 10am Justice Department asked the firms to indicate whether they plan to oppose the attempt to reverse the course, and they gave him 30 minutes to do it. About two hours later, the Justice Department formally filed a motion to withdraw the motion from the previous day. The firms did oppose the motion, according to the filing, calling it an unexplained request to withdraw yesterday's voluntary dismissal, to which all parties had agreed. Dana this reminds me of the time the White House dropped its legal bid to add a citizenship question to the census. They decided to drop it, but then they came back the next day and said, never mind. And the judge called an emergency hearing and was like, what the fuck, doj? And DOJ was like, hey, we're just as surprised as you. We don't know what the fuck either. But Trump eventually lost that battle. But it seems the Department of Justice dropped the appeals against these big law firms. And then Trump got mad and told him to reverse it. I imagine we'll get more details about those discussions leaked to the press in the coming days.
Dana Goldberg
I feel like Trump. And just hear me out. I feel like Trump knows he's dying. Like, his ankles and the pustulus wounds on his neck. I think he knows his time is limited. And so he's basically like, if you guys don't do everything you can to make my last days on this earth, make me look like I'm the most powerful guy in the world, I'm gonna burn this whole thing down. And I have so much dirt on you all that I swear to God, I'll just air the laundry. Like, that's really what it feels like right now. And so they just, okay, whatever you want, sir. Whatever you want, sir.
Alison Gill
Friend of mine on Facebook was like, that thing on his neck has real. I was bitten by a zombie and hiding it from the group vibes.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, my God. I saw one that was like, hey, listen, are there any doctors out there? Can you all tell me what this is? And there was a bunch of people that's like, I have 14 years medical school, and I'm like a doctor of whatever wounds are. And I can tell you emphatically that right there is a pedophile.
Alison Gill
I like the theories about Stephen Miller. Vampire bites.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, my God. So funny. Hey, listen, listen. Thoughts and prayers, Trump. I hope you heal fast. All right, this one's from the Times. The New York Attorney General's office has ordered a major Manhattan hospital to resume providing puberty blocking medication and hormone treatments to transgender adolescents just two weeks after the hospital had stopped doing so. Again, that's the New York Attorney General's Office, not the Attorney General's Office of the United States. The hospital, NYU Langone Health, has closed its Transgender Youth Health program after the federal government threatened to pull federal funding from hospitals that provided gender transition treatments for adolescents. For more than a year, the Trump administration has sought to prevent hospitals from helping adolescents transition, asserting that many of the children are impressionable and confused and that the medical treatments maim and sterilize them. None of that is fucking true. In response, many clinics and hospitals in the United States have scaled back or stopped providing gender related treatments to children. There is only a minority percentage of children, anyone under 18 that actually is having any sort of surgical procedure done,
Alison Gill
by the way, this is just hormone blockers.
Dana Goldberg
Most of the surgical procedures are happening on CIS kids and cisgender kids now. In a letter to the hospital senior official in the Attorney General's office raised the question of whether NYU Langone's action violated New York's anti discrimination laws by barring a single category of patients from receiving medications that others could access. Wow, what a great fucking argument. The official, and that's Darsana Srinivasan, who leads the office's healthcare Bureau, wrote in a letter that puberty blockers and hormone treatments remain available to pediatric patients who are not transgender. And I quote, New York State laws prohibit discrimination based on patients membership in a protected class. You are hereby advised to immediately resume all service offerings as they had before the change in policy, and to make medically necessary puberty blocking medications and hormone therapies available for patients under 19 who were diagnosed with gender dysphoria. This is what the letter said, which was dated February 25. Last month, the hospital issued a statement citing the current regulatory environment as among the reasons the hospital had decided to discontinue its program for gender related care for youth. In its statement, NYU Langone had said that it was, and I quote, committed to helping patients in our care manage this change.
Alison Gill
No. Yeah. No. New York Attorney General said.
Dana Goldberg
Not the right answer.
Alison Gill
No protected class. You cannot take puberty blockers away from transgender kids, but not CIS children. That is against the New York law. So good. Good for her for standing up for trans youth in New York. All right, everybody, we have some good news that we have to get to, but we have to take a quick break. Stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
Dana Goldberg
We'll be right back.
Alison Gill

Absolutely. All right, this is from Rachel Pronoun. She and her hi Ag and dg. I'm writing to share how I found time to get in my calls to Congress. I love the 5 calls app and have made good use of it, but since I was called back into the office full time, I was struggling to make those calls. So I added my Congress people to my phone's address book and now I can call hands free while I'm stuck on the freeway. I know it requires a bit of confidence to call without a script, and it sounds so silly that it felt like a revelation to put them into my address book, but I'm certainly finding myself calling more. I sometimes pause the beans right after good trouble and make those calls. So anyway, I thought some other folks might want to try it out. For my potpat tacks, I've included Fitzgerald in his happy place with my Girl Scouts. He's our three legged rescue, something we'll find out in a minute. And also a photo of my amazing kid at the top of the podium at a recent Irish dance competition in the dress I made for her while I was furloughed from the government job last year. Thanks for being rad, you two. I'm always grateful for the daily sanity check and it is so grounding to hear you also be Outraged. And in the right places.
Alison Gill
Oh, I love this. Fitzgerald's a great name by the way. And I love tripod dogs also.
Dana Goldberg
Maybe a. It almost looks like a great dang shepherd mix. Not shepherd. A Great Dane whippet, though.

I feel like almost a greyhound or something in there. Let's see.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, it's Catahoula Leopard dog. The one that we close.
Alison Gill
Yeah, well, okay, 0 for 1. That's fine. Look at the Irish dancing champion.
Dana Goldberg
Oh my gosh. So cute.
Alison Gill
Amazing. And look, you could tell they're dancers by their. In some sort of position with their feet.
Dana Goldberg
That's hysterical. Oh my God, that's right. Yeah. Like the first position. Yep.
Alison Gill
You got a second position. First one's.
Dana Goldberg
I think number one is in the first position, which is actually funny. I wonder if they did that on purpose. Where number two is in the second position. And three, they're both in the third position.
Alison Gill
Yes. And they're tied for third.
Dana Goldberg
Look at me. I don't know what the mop, but I can tell you what these dance positions are.
Alison Gill
Rachel, Are they doing their feet for the. For the place they came in? We want to know. Let us know. All right. And we're going to actually edit out some of the. Yep. Golden Retriever. That's 100%. It's a mini breed.
Dana Goldberg
How great is that? Oh, it's minis breed, not a mini breed. Look at that. We're one for one for two.
Alison Gill
Yes, that's 100% on that one.
Dana Goldberg
That's right. All right, this is from Anonymous. Pronouns he and him. Greetings from Ohio with my four ferrets. FYI, the reason that Scouts wants and needs military support is because the military provides the medic coverage for their giant gatherings for free, among other things, probably. But that one I know for sure of when I looked into why this impacted them before. Keep up the hard work. And we do have a little show note that says the U.S. department of Defense, the DOD, provides logistical, facility, and event support for activities including the national Jamboree.
Alison Gill
Ah, yeah, there you go. And oh, by the way, there's a statement from Scouting America. It's one of the most reliable pipelines to the United States Armed forces, our country's ever known. Scouts are significantly more likely to serve in uniform than the general population. Eagle Scouts are heavily represented in ROTC programs, service academies, and military leadership tracks.
Dana Goldberg
Look at the ferrets adorbs. I think ferrets are awfully cute.
Alison Gill
They really are. They're super cute little weirdos. All right, next up, from Jasmine Pronoun. She and her I just want to shout out about some good trouble. The umbrella brigade in Orlando. You can find them at theumbrellabrigade.org is the most amazing group of good troublemakers. They started out as clinic defenders, and now they have grown their protection umbrella to support all those affected by terrible laws in Florida that impact the LGBTQ community and those affected by the frozen conditions happening in our country. Ice Orlando is being hit hard. And Tub. Tub has come through by helping to feed and pay utilities for those who can't leave their homes. With the news this morning about HIV med funding being choked, they now have another issue to tackle. This org is 100% volunteer. No one gets paid, and all the resources they gather go back to the community. It's truly the most wonderful org I've ever had the pleasure of volunteering with.
Dana Goldberg
Keep up.
Alison Gill
The Good Trouble Umbrella brigade. Again, we'll have a link to that nonprofit in the show notes. And there's no mention of this dog, but I'm gonna guess it's a corgi. And I'm gonna say we are now two out of three.
Dana Goldberg
I think you're right. I love that all right, this is from Mayday pronoun she and her hi beans queens. This is not related to politics in any way. Just sharing that I went to Hula Hoop convention. Yes, that's a thing. Last month and I had a wonderful time. Met so many new friends and my soul feels fed. It's Cheeselandia Hoop Affair in Madison, Wisconsin. This whole fucking thing makes me so happy.
Alison Gill
Cheese and Hula Hoops.
Dana Goldberg
I know. It was thoughtfully planned and flawlessly executed. I bet it was really gudo. For anyone looking for a new hub, we're going to get started. Alison's going to think of 18 more by the time I'm done. For anyone looking for a new hobby and 100% accepting community, give Flow Arts Hula Hoop a try. Look for meetups or classes near you and you will find a new source of joy. The Leguminati are welcome to reach out to me via my Instagram a dayhoops.
Alison Gill
Oh my God.
Dana Goldberg
The hoot.
Alison Gill
The cheese Landia Hoop Affair.
Dana Goldberg
It's so good.
Alison Gill
Oh, I wish I lived in Wisconsin.
Dana Goldberg
Food, Hula hooping. Like professional hula hooping. It's lit.
Alison Gill
Yeah. Oh my God. Have you seen that's. It's. It's brilliant. Flow Arts and Hula Hoop. And I hope there was cheese. Unless it's the.
Dana Goldberg
There had to be cheese. They're better than cheese.
Alison Gill
Yeah. I mean if it's in Madison, it's gotta be incredible. Thank you so much that this excellent type like this is a great example of a wonderful good news submission. Next up from anonymous pronoun she and her dear beans Queens. Thank you so much for bringing all the swearing to the news and also highlighting the various independent media sources that seem to provide so much more news than the mainstream media these days. Thank you. I wanted to share that I finally had my student loans forgiven. Nice. Whoa. I work in a non profit for several years and I've been with the federal government for the last three somehow surviving the DRP and the rifts. Technically I met my 120 months a year and a half ago but as with so many others, got caught up in the save repayment court case that put all the payments in forbearance and stopped counting those months. I finally got myself into another plan which raised my payments by about 700amonth and was essentially a second mortgage payment. But I'm lucky in that I had been able to put away my original save loan payment plan while the court case drug on. Last week I finally got the email from Mohela saying My loans were forgiven and I could not be more ecstatic for my PODPET tariff. I've included pictures of my two voidlings. Onyx is on the leash in the Sunflowers and Egypt is here showing his displeasure after I had returned from a long trip. They bring me joy and cuddles every day and help us get through these insane times.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, look at the baby voids.
Alison Gill
Yeah, I get that look too when I go on a trip and I come back.
Dana Goldberg
So cute. All right, next UP is from B.C. in Texas. No pronouns given. I've been struggling with what I suspect is agoraphobia after getting free of cult like control a few years ago this morning I laid in bed paralyzed and crying because I wanted needed to vote. I messaged a couple of friends and told them what I was going through. I moved to the couch where I drowned a few fudge cookies in a soda and cried. And then I remembered that I didn't have to vote. I only had to do one thing. So I put on my pants. And then I did one more thing. I put on my shirt, my most serious shirt, and cried. And then I. I evaluated. I'm getting teary. I've also like not. It's not the same thing. There's something going on. I've had a rough two days too in reading. This is so sweet. And then I evaluated which barrier was the easiest to overcome. I could either have the freedom of riding my scooter, but would have to navigate myself going to the new to me polling place, or I could pay about $20 to have someone from an app drive me there and then back home. So I did one thing and I ordered a ride. I cried quietly the whole way there. I cried while I voted. I cried waiting for the ride home. But I did the thing. And then I came home and I resumed my morning routine, finishing the good news and moving on to the beans talk while typing this. For ages now, I've said that if I could afford it, I'd move the handful of miles it would take me to put me in Jasmine Crockett's district. Today I cast my vote for Jasmine Crockett to represent me as Senator. And though I'm still crying for my anxiety, I also couldn't be more pleased about it. Keep up the amazing work, Beans, Queens and dg. I'll see you in a few months when you come to Dallas. Fuck yes. You make sure I don't care if you got VIP tickets or not. If you didn't, please just send me a note. I would Love to meet you, and if you're comfortable with it, give you a hug. Pictured as my just voted selfie in the aforementioned Serious shirt, It says, today I'm a serious goose.
Alison Gill
Goose with a tie.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, my God. Bc, I just. I literally stopped crying, like, an hour ago so I could record this show, and now you got me going again. But what a beautiful submission. I just did one thing. Do one fucking thing and then do the next thing if you feel comfortable with it. And then once you do that, do the next thing. This is such a beautiful submission. I'm so glad you go to vote for Jasmine Crockett. You've been wanting to for years. I think you have two good candidates down there, but I would have voted for her as well. I think she'd make a hell of a senator. I know a lot of people down in Texas, they voted for whichever candidate, but they've also pledged to vote for and vote and support for whoever wins the primary. Thank God. So, yeah, B.C. thank you for this. You have no idea what a gift you gave me and probably so many listeners today. I really appreciate you.
Alison Gill
Yeah, I'm kind of speechless. I mean, there's a lot that, you know, I personally have to go through because of PTSD and generalized anxiety. It's different from agoraphobia, but the idea of just doing the one thing. I mean, you. You remember the day after the election? Yeah.
Dana Goldberg
Which one?
Alison Gill
Like this last one? Yeah, we like, we. What are we gonna do?
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, because we knew.
Alison Gill
And I was like, well, I'm gonna get out of bed. And then. And then it was like, all right, I'm gonna do some research. And then it was, all right, I'm gonna write a script. And then you and I were like, all right, we're gonna record the show. We have to. We just do one thing at a time. What an incredible submission.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah. What a great way to end this section for sure.
Alison Gill
Thank you so much, B.C. thank you all for your good news submissions. Anything at all. Send it to us dailybeanspod.com click on contact. I. I think that BC should get the final thought today.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, I do, too. Thank you so much.
Alison Gill
And we'll see you all tomorrow. Until then, please take care of yourselves, Take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health, take care of your family. I've been ag.
Dana Goldberg
I've been dg.
Alison Gill

This episode delivers a characteristically snarky yet thorough rundown of urgent political and social justice news. Allison Gill and Dana Goldberg discuss the latest regressive Supreme Court rulings, tumult around Trump’s war in Iran, Kristi Noem’s disastrous Senate appearance, the reversal by the Trump administration on law firm litigation, updates on the Epstein-Lutnick hearings, and a forceful intervention for trans youth by New York’s Attorney General Letitia James.
Throughout, the reporting is powered by progressive skepticism, uplifting community involvement, and listener submissions—ending with a moving “one step at a time” voting story.
[03:29] AG shares breaking news:
[04:29] DG reflects on the broader Middle East ramifications and hopes for real freedom for the Iranian people, while noting skepticism due to the power of the IRGC.
[05:26] AG and DG review Noem’s attempt to distance herself from calling Alex Preddy a domestic terrorist, hedging on legal language.
[06:28] AG notes Senator Thom Tillis (retiring) harshly questioned Noem about the “puppy killer” scandal, using his lame-duck status to speak out.
[07:11] AG: Rubio tries to rationalize Trump’s war decision, only for Trump to contradict him—highlighting chaos and lack of a Middle East evacuation plan.
Standout moment:
[12:01] DG: Lutnick, a former neighbor of Epstein, agrees to closed-door testimony with the House Oversight Committee, but claims minimal connection despite evidence to the contrary.
[14:08] AG and DG mock the “transparency” of closed-door, no-press hearings.
[14:20] AG: The administration first drops, then reinstates, its legal crusade against major law firms.
[17:17] DG’s theory:
Hosts joke about Trump’s health, referencing memes about his neck wound.
[18:15] DG: NYU Langone shut down trans youth care after federal threats; Letitia James forces resumption, citing NY anti-discrimination law.
[20:53] AG: Highlights that most surgical procedures actually occur in cis youth, not trans.
[25:31] — [40:21] (Segment highlight: Uplifting, personal, and community-driven.)
The episode combines fierce accountability journalism with humor and community spirit. AG and DG walk listeners through alarming new threats to democracy and civil rights while celebrating grassroots organizing and individual bravery—like BC’s story of voting through severe anxiety. The closing sentiment crystallizes the show’s ethos: “I think that BC should get the final thought today.” (AG, 40:21)
