Happy Monday, everyone. Quite a weekend of news.
B
Oh, my gosh, it was quite a weekend of news. I had a really spectacular event in D.C. for the human Rights campaign on Saturday. It was just so nice to be in a room full of people that were still fired up about this. I got to sit next to my dear friend Sarah McBride, Chronos from and Sarah McBride, and have dinner with her. And I hadn't seen her in a while. We've known each other for so long, and, you know, I just. I want to take this minute to send a lot of love out to the trans community right now for this particular reason. Every time you get weaponized in the news and then they have to walk back a fucking story in the Wall Street Journal or something like that, the damage is done. We know the damage is done, and it's gotta be exhausting. And I just want you to know that with podcasts, we always make sure that the stories we bring forth one are supportive of our community, as they should be, and that they're factual. That they're factual. I'm just so tired of all of this because the damage it causes is irreparable. And I can imagine you're exhausted. Sarah is exhausted. It's been a hard week for the community, and the other side is a mess, trying to grab onto straws anywhere they can and just make up. And so I just. I just want to send you my love. Truthfully, I just, you know, I was in a room this weekend with people who care about the rights of the LGBTQ community. And so I just want to Pay that forward to you in the podcast today that we are still fighting for you and that that work's not going to stop.
A
Yeah. 100, we love you and we see you. And they are so desperate to tie this event or any political violence to the transgender community that they'll just make up whole cloth and the sourcing is. So I just want to thank everybody, first of all, for being here and supporting independent media. Yeah. Because I don't know what the Is going on with corporate media this week. Well, I kind of do. But I have to say, Dana, in my eight years of closely following the media, very closely following the media, I've never seen anything like what has happened in this past week.
B
They're losing their footing because they know they're losing their base. And so they're trying to figure out how to rally their base again. And unfortunately, these attacks have worked. People don't understand. They fear what they don't understand. And the Wall Street Journal, they came out with all of these article people coming back and being like, even the quotes about, oh, his family is completely Republican. He's the liberal person is family. He's so liberal. And then all of a sudden, they walk it back. But just a little tag at the end of the article that's like, oh, we retracted that because the quotes couldn't be verified. What the fuck are they doing?
A
Yeah. And no apology. Just a, oops, sorry, we put your whole life in danger at the bottom in italics.
B
Yeah, I don't know what's going on either, but I think it is directly tied to them losing their ground and losing footing.
A
Yeah. Well, I'm gonna definitely address that on my second episode of my live podcast, which is you can. It's out now. And if you go to my sub stack, you can see it. But let's talk about some of these retractions, because it's not from, like, you know, small news outlets. This is Washington Post. This is BBC. This is the Guardian. This is the Wall Street Journal.
B
Yeah.
A
These are big news organizations who, in their reckless desire to be first to impress their corporate overlord shareholders, they get it wrong. And sure, you might go back and make a retraction, but like you said, Dana, those first impressions are what matter.
B
Especially in the world we live in right now. You put something on social media, one person believes it, much less mainstream media that's got millions and millions of followers and they blast it out. You can't pull that shit back. I don't know when the integrity for journalism left just left the mainstream media and yeah, BBC antifa. I mean, I just, I don't, I don't understand how this is a lot of these play. I mean, Waypo has been sort of, you know, sketchy for a while with Bezos in charge and bending the knee to Trump and Wall Street Journal. We know that's, you know, obviously they don't make any sense these days. They're either bringing out evidence against him just to, you know, have something over his head or they're doing his bidding for him. Fox News we can never trust. I understand. Let me also say I went down a couple conspiracy theory holes after this shooting and I can understand how Fox News is melting our grandparents brain because every once in a while and I think I'm a rational person, I will still get caught up and be like, was that a sign? Were those people, is this a real video? Oh my God. And when you're older and they're just feeding that to you or you're not as educated as some other people and you're like, oh, this is truth, this is gospel. I get how it happens.
A
Yeah. And they're not presenting it as a speculation.
B
Right.
A
They're saying this is real, this is the truth.
B
You know, I also saw something fascinating and just because we have a little bit of time at the beginning, I saw a post and it was a woman basically talking about this, the whole thing with Charlie Kirk and to a friend of hers that's obviously conservative. There's two different worlds right now because of the algorithm that people are living in and they're getting fed. One of them is showing Charlie Kirk doing these talks that are, you know, Christian, like, and talking about religion and hope and, you know, being a good upstanding citizen. Those are only being fed to certain amount of people. We've seen all of these horrible videos of him talking about how gay people should be stoned and how black women are stealing white jobs because they don't have the cognitive ability to get it on their own. We're seeing all of that and because of our algorithm we're being fed that. And these two people shared the videos with each other during this conversation. Both of them were blown away. I just, it. We are living in a world right now that is so fractured and the more you seek out information, the more it's going to get reinforced. That's why it's so important. And I know this side does more than the other is the critical thinking of just questioning this stuff.
A
Yeah, and let's, let's talk about that a little. Because first the first thing that happened was Wednesday night after the shooting, Trump addressed the country from the Oval Office and said, this is the fault of left leftist radicals, radical leftists with no proof, none, zero. We didn't even know who the shooter was. And then of course we had, as you mentioned, the Wall Street Journal saying that there was from. From a source talking about a law enforcement bulletin saying that the things that were carved on the bullets indicate that this person has transgender and anti fascist ideologies. First of all, what is transgender ideology?
B
I don't know.
A
This is like a made up thing that.
B
Yeah, it's just ridiculous.
A
And then later I found out through a little bit of, I don't know, searching on the Internet.
B
Yeah.
A
About the video game.
B
And yeah, even the ATF was like, that's not what, that's not actually true.
A
The ATF put out two hours later and I'm sure nobody who wanted to hear it heard it. That that's not true. Everybody just ran with anti fascist and transgender, even like MSNBC all day. Oh, they were antifa. They were anti fascist. The BBC said that the bullet casing that said hey fascist Catch with the arrows on it is. Is means that the shooter is antifa or anti fascist.
B
It's from a video game. He was a gamer.
A
And that's not true. It is. And I wrote a whole piece on it@molarshiroad.com it's from a video game called Helldivers 2. The reason it says hey fascist Catch is because in the game you are living in a fascist regime called a managed democracy. And you don't know it's fascist, but you're fighting for the fascists. So when you go to destroy the enemy who aren't fascists, you call them fascists. It's got nothing to do with antifa, which also isn't a real organization or even espousing anti fascist ideology.
B
Also, why did we not want to live in a world that's actually anti fascist? I don't fucking understand how we got to this point. And what isn't anti fascism a good thing?
A
Yeah, that's the other thing too. Like if we fully play out these scenarios, can you argue your point to the end and not sound like a fucking Nazi? No, you cannot. Yeah, so there was that and then the BBC and then Washington Post put out a story saying that Governor Cox said that the shooter said he didn't like Charlie Kirk and that the reason he didn't like Charlie Kirk was because he said Charlie Kirk was full of hate.
B
Yeah, I learned what a Groiper was during this incident.
A
Yes, exactly. But that's not what they said. And the Washington Post had to print a retraction, no apology, and say, oh, he didn't say. He. He said he didn't like Charlie Kirk, but not because he was full of hate. We don't know why he doesn't like Charlie Kirk. Well, there's a whole group of people out there in this world who hate Charlie Kirk, who. Because he's not far enough to the right.
B
Yep. And they love Nick Fuentes. And Nick, put out a video, if you're paying attention to social media, who was like, I need to tell my followers right now, any of you who take up arms, you are not part of this army. Now. Now a warning. Now a warning. And apparently, Nick Fuentes has this whole movement. They're called Groipers. And they don't like Trump or people like Charlie Kirk. Because they don't think they're conservative enough.
A
Yeah. Because. Because they're friendly to Jewish people.
B
Yep.
A
That's why. Because they support Israel, the state of Israel. And Nick Fuentes is.
B
I'm sorry. We're sorry to give you all this crazy information, especially on a Monday morning, but, like, we don't. We want you to know what the information actually is out there and what is true.
A
Yeah. And now Fox News. One reporter at Fox heard from one person at the FBI, which is run by Kash Patel, who has probably been told that, make sure you tie this to transgender people. Somebody at Fox said, oh, the roommate of the shooter is transitioning from. From man to woman. And first of all, there's no proof of this.
B
No.
A
Second of all, my understanding from, like, the people who were interviewed on the street and their neighbors and their grandma said that he lived at home, I don't see a couple of Trumpy Latter Day Saint parents being cool with that, but whatever. I mean, we can speculate all day, but to say that this per. First of all, like, remember how I said, like, argue it to the end?
B
Yeah.
A
Okay, so let's say he did have a. A roommate that was transitioning. And what does that mean that transgender people are to blame for this shooting? I don't understand the. Who. Like, who cares?
B
Yeah, it's a big who cares?
A
And somebody tweeted, like, the shooter is transgender. Nope. The bullets were transgender. Nope. Okay. His roommate was transgender. And then a sweaty Kash Patel stands around and screams, is anybody transgender nearby? Like, it's just. It's so desperate. They're so desperate to do what Trump wants. So I Just want to urge everyone, if you see a story that says, you know, Governor Cox said he was leftist, but you open up the story and you read it. That's an Associated Press headline. You open up the story and you read it. It's Governor Cox who cites law enforcement talking to family members, but doesn't say that he spoke directly to the family members and doesn't say who he's heard it from. But he did say, we actually don't know the motive. And he did say he has a transgender roommate, but we don't think that's part of the motive. He did say that. I personally don't believe anything about these stories, and I don't know that we're going to know because I think he's going to plead guilty to get out of the death penalty and that'll be that.
B
And you might be right. You might be right. And that's why I haven't posted about this. If you look at my social media, there's no public posting about my opinion on this because I'm waiting for the truth to come out, because I don't want to jump ahead of this and make assumptions. All I'm saying is that that one post, and I think I talked about it last time on this podcast that said, I don't support what happened to Charlie Kirk, but Charlie Kirk supported what happened to Charlie Kirk. That's it. Yeah.
A
Now, I had private conversations with friends on Wednesday shortly after the shooting, saying, I bet this is a Nick Fuentes right wing person to multiple people. I texted multiple people saying, who do you think? What do you think? And I'm like, well, this is my opinion now, based on previous shooters and their MOs and people who are, you know, violent and succumb to violent rhetoric. To me, this sounds like somebody who listens to Nick Fuentes. That's. That was my guess. It's still my guess. But I want to tell everybody I don't have any hard proof for why the shooter didn't like Charlie Kirk. I do not know.
B
Nope.
A
I have guesses, but I do not know.
B
Yeah. So just everyone check your sources. I said it at the top of this discussion. Just please check your sources. Know where they come from. You know, Allison doesn't put things out on her substack or on Blue sky unless she has a source and has information from someone she's spoken to. So just check your sources.
A
Yeah, for sure. And also, Dana, one other thing before we get into this. You remember how the Trump administration fired Lisa Cook from the Federal Reserve Board? Saying that she committed mortgage fraud. And they also accused Letitia James of mortgage fraud and Adam Schiff of mortgage fraud because they put, they said, he said, they put on their application that they had multiple primary residences in order to get better interest rates from a bank. Well, Reuters has the documents for Lisa Cook, and she listed her second home as a vacation home, not a primary residence. So that's going to be an interesting lawsuit. We're going to talk about that in more detail on this Wednesday's cleanup on aisle 45 pod with Harry Dunn. So check out that podcast. All right. We have a lot of news to get to today. That's not it. That's not the show, by the way. We have, we have other news to get to.
B
I know it was a long discussion. Thanks for hanging with us. If you're still here. Yes.
A
And we're going to get to those hot notes right after this break. Stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
B
We'll be right back.
A

Welcome back. It's time for the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up from Politico, a federal judge worried publicly Friday that the Trump administration had, quote, with a wink and a nod, deported a group of African nationals to Ghana, only to have Ghana redirect them to countries where they may face torture and persecution. That's called refoulment. U.S. district Judge Tanya Chutkan, who we all know from the Trump January 6th case, is still weighing what, if any, power she has to order protections for the group of Nigerian and Gambian citizens who were abruptly sent to Ghana last week aboard a U.S. military plane. But she made clear that she viewed this administration's actions as underhanded. That's, that's judge speak for you're a bunch of assholes. What you're doing, what appears to be happening is truly disingenuous. That's what the Obama appointed judge said. An emergency hearing on Friday afternoon in Washington after lawyers for the deportees sued earlier in the day. The immigrants had all won legal protections from being deported to their home countries over fear of being prosecuted or tortured under the Conventions Against Torture Act. Their lawyers say the Trump administration is circumventing those protections by sending them to Ghana because Ghana will prepare to deport them, redeport them to their countries of origin within days. In the meantime, lawyers say the deportees are being held under military guard at a squalid open air detention camp. So yet another weekend spent in chambers in hearings discussing illegal, unlawful, inhumane, and just downright cruel deportations.
B
Yeah. Thanks so much, Allison. This one's from BBC14. Staff members at a US animal shelter have been taken to a hospital after the FBI used an incinerator at the facility to burn 2 pounds of seize methamphetamine. What in the fuck? Staff and some 75 cats and dogs were evacuated from the Yellowstone Valley Animal Shelter in Billings, Montana when the building filled with smoke on Wednesday. The incinerator is usually used by animal control officers to dispose of euthanized animals, but local authorities said it can also be used by law enforcement to burn seized narcotics. What is happening?
A
I don't, I'm telling you, I don't. I don't.
B
Even.
A
When I saw this story, somebody, a listener, DMed me this story on Blue sky and they're like, this is going to piss you off. And I was like, what the fuck?
B
Oh, my God. I know. The cats and dogs, they have been relocated and the animals which experience a smoke exposure, they are now under supervision and probably this horror. I just. You want to. There's so much comedian inside voice happening right now. This is a horrifying.
A
Mine is. Can. You can burn weed in my animal shelter. That's fine.
B
Oh, my God. Methamphetamines.
A
Yeah. What the. Do you not understand? Does the d. Nope.
B
Don't even understand.
A
Does the DEA not have a narcotics incinerator?
B
Apparently not.
A
Just give it to Cash Patel. He'll just use it all.
B
There you go. These poor animals.
A
Next up from the post. Health insurance costs in the United States are on track for their biggest jump probably ever, but at least in five years. That's according to multiple surveys. Adding turbulence to an uncertain economy and boosting expenses for millions of Americans already beset by gestures broadly in 2026, businesses will be. It doesn't say that in the Washington Post, by the way. It says beset by inflation. But I figured I'd do the gestures broadly thing because I think it's more than just inflation. There's tariffs, there's. There's Nazis in charge. Anyway, in 2026, businesses will be hit with an increase of 9% or more, and they're expected to push that burden onto their employees. For the 24 million enrollees of the Affordable Care act insurance plans, however, the news is far worse. The end of enhanced federal subsidies for that program means their costs are expected to rise by more than Dana 75% next year.
B
Wow.
A
That's. According to KFF, the nonpartisan health policy organization. Because these tax credits are going to expire, insurers and employers point to two recent factors to explain the rising price. The tariffs on pharmaceutical imports being considered by the Trump administration and the high cost of new obesity treatments. The GLP1s. Now, with inflation top of mind for many Americans and broad discontent with health care right now, I think the current survey is that only 30% of Americans approve Trump's handling of inflation and only 36% approve of his handling of the economy. Those are. I know, it seems like, wow, who are these people that approve it? Yeah, seriously, that's an abysmal number, historically speaking. So the spike in both government sponsored and private health insurance plans is going to make the cost of coverage an issue in the 2026 midterm elections. Which is why one of the many reasons they have to cheat by redrawing all their maps. A Gallup poll in December reported Americans rating of the quality of U.S. health care has fallen to the lowest reading in 24 years. And views of health care coverage nationally remain broadly negative. A 75% increase in your premiums on the Affordable Care act plans.
B
Also, I have to say this, and I know this is me being maybe Pollyannish, and hopefully they're making an assumption that Republicans are not sick of this shit with this redistricting, that they're just going to get these seats because all these Republicans are going to keep voting the way they're voting. If these Republicans keep getting hurt with these legislative policies, I hope some of these maps that are being gerrymandered blow up in their face.
A
And some of the maps actually take a little bit away from some of the Republicans and in Texas and make it a little bit closer for Democrats in the super red ones. They needed to sort of dilute the super red districts to give more red to some of the blue. And so we'll see what happens. But we're going to talk about that a little bit later.
B
Good, Good. All right. I do have some better news, and this is from the Associated Press. A Rhode island judge on Friday temporarily stopped the Trump administration from changing the criteria for using tens of millions of dollars in funding to aid homeless people. Several nonprofits filed a lawsuit this week accusing the U.S. department of Housing and Urban Development of changing the rules for receiving $75 million in funding to build housing for homeless families and individuals. Plaintiffs accused the Trump administration of changing the criteria for the continuum of care bills. That's a program to better align with its social policies. A coalition of plaintiffs in a lawsuit argued the Trump administration was aiming to upend policies in place for decades to satisfy its political considerations, including whether jurisdictions and, I quote, support sanctuary protections, harm reduction practices or inclusive policies for transgender people. Again, they can go fuck themselves.
A
There it is.
B
The quote says, we welcome the court's decision to stop a rushed, lawless attempt to make essential funding contingent on a community's compliance with harmful and unlawful restrictions the Trump Vance administration is trying to impose. Plaintiffs and their legal counsel, this is what they said in a statement. They went on to say, this order ensures that service providers can focus on what matters most, providing safe, stable housing and support to people in crisis.
A
Yeah, they want to withhold $75 million in funding because 1% less than 1% of people, unhoused people are transgender. That's their plan. So the judge has stopped.
B
It just builds. It builds.
A
The judge has stopped that. So A little more good news from the Associated Press. California state lawmakers have passed legislation that would ban most law enforcement officers from covering their faces while carrying out operations. A response to recent immigration raids in Los Angeles and, let's be honest, around the whole country. But we had them here in San Diego, too, and around the state. In the first such bill to be approved by any state legislature, though Democrats in Congress and lawmakers in several states, including Tennessee, Michigan, Illinois, New York, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania, have introduced similar proposals, California is the first to pass. 1. California's legislation, approved by the Democratically controlled Legislature on Thursday, is among a number of bills state lawmakers were considering this year in response to the raids. The bill will prohibit neck gaiters, ski masks and other facial coverings for local and federal officers, including immigration enforcement agents, while they conduct official business. It makes exceptions for undercover agents, medical masks like N95 respirators, or tactical gear. So if you want to look like a woke soy boy and put on your N95 mask, you're welcome to do it, but you can't wear those gaiters anymore. It's going to be interesting to see how they enforce this. Then there'll be a lawsuit which will go up to the Supreme Court to see if there's any kind of supremacy clause on this. But I'm very glad that they are at least mucking up the works here.
B
Absolutely. This one's from the Times, everyone. We've got Senator Chris Van Hollen. He's a Democrat of Maryland. He endorsed Zoran Mamdani for mayor of New York City on Saturday and called on his party's leadership to do the same, criticizing them for a delay that he said had allowed President Trump to exploit democratic divisions. Mr. Van Hollen and said that Mamdani, the party's nominee, was focused on, and I quote, ensuring that people can afford to live in the place where they work, a goal that Donald Trump and New York's financial elites see that as a threat, he said. Yet many Democratic members of the Senate and the House representing New York, they have stayed on the sidelines. Again, this is all from Van Hollen. That's what he told a cheering group of Democratic activists and officials gathered on Saturday afternoon in Des Moines. And I quote, the kind of spineless politics is what people are sick of. They need to get behind him and get behind him now. Mr. Van Hollen isn't alone, by the way, in suggesting that it's time for the national party to get behind Mamdani. And he is that 33, 3 year old state assemblyman in New York. In recent days, a series of Democrats across the ideological spectrum have argued that it's important for their leaders to forcefully reject Mr. Trump's apparent interest in tipping the race toward Andrew Cuomo, a lifelong Democrat, if that's what you want to call him, who is running in the mayoral race as an independent after losing the primary to Mr. Mamdani and being asked to leave his job because of sexual allegations.
A
Yeah.
B
Now Representative Jimmy Raskin of Maryland and Representative Pat Ryan of New York, they've endorsed him. Senators Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, they've backed his bid, as did Representatives Premier Jayapal of Washington and AOC and Jerry Nadler of New York. There's a lot of people getting behind this. And he said, I don't understand why it's even a question. Of course they should endorse him. This is from Representative Ro Khanna. That's a liberal Democrat from California. In his remarks, Mr. Van Hollen cast the hesitancy of Democratic officials and strategists as a political mistake, particularly at a time when surveys show voters hold very unfavorable perceptions of the Democratic brand, not to mention very favorable perceptions of Mandani. That's why they favor the nomination. And I quote, we become a party that too often trims its sails. Too cautious, too rudderless, too attached to pole washed, pundit rinsed and donor dried messages. That's what he said. He said what comes out of the wash is all bleached and blow dried. That's a great quote.
A
I love that whole quote.
B
Yep. And we got Chuck, Chuck Schumer, if you don't know who I'm talking about, met with Mamdani earlier this week and said that they would keep talking. Now, Ms. Hochul also said she and Mr. Mamdani had been having conversations. Mr. Jeffries has hinted that he was moving toward a decision, saying he would address the election in the coming weeks. I just. If it's him or Cuomo, I don't even care how you feel about Mamdani. What the fuck are they doing?
A
I don't know. I don't know, man. It's like so many Democrats are like, look, you gotta vote for the candidate that's the Democrat, even if you don't agree with them 100%. And they do that when they're pushing more middle of the road Democrats like Fetterman. Right. They're like, hey, it's still a D, it's still a Democratic vote. But when it comes to supporting a Democrat, that's a little more progressive all of a sudden. Obviously, they aren't for Cuomo, but they don't want to. It's just, it's, it blows my mind like that. That whole blue no matter who thing works both ways, my friends. Like it just does. And to sit on the sidelines is exactly the issue that Van Hollen brought up. It allows Trump to divide Democrats.
B
And I don't give a shit what party you're in. I don't want another sexual assaulter back in office.
A
Please, can we just, please, or, oh, hey, I mean, Eric Adams is still in it, right?
B
Oh, God.
A
Oh, my God. All right. This is Allison Gill with a breaking news update. Ships at sea. Ships at sea. Just within a couple of hours of us recording this episode, Kathy Hochul has officially endorsed Mamdani. She writes in the New York Times. In the four years since I took office, one of my foundational beliefs has been the importance of the office of New York governor, working hand in hand with the mayor of New York City for the betterment of the 8.3 million residents we both represent. The question of who will be the next mayor is one I take extremely seriously and to which I have devoted a great deal of thought. Tonight, I am endorsing Assemblyman Zorhan Mamdani. So she goes on. And if you want to read the whole thing in the New York Times, if you have a subscription, you can. But I wanted to just break in with that little bit of news, and I'm very curious to see if Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer will follow suit. And now back to your regularly scheduled program from ABC. Texas Republican Congressman Michael McCall announced Sunday he's not going to seek reelection in 2026. McCall, former chairman of the Homeland Security and Foreign Affairs Committees, joins two other House Republicans who announced their retirement from public office this year. McCall's fellow Texan, Rep. Morgan Luttrell and Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska. McCall's district, by the way, which represents parts of Austin and spans as far east as Houston, leans heavily. It was Houston suburbs, I should say. It leans heavily Republican. And he handily won reelection. McCall did in 2024, defeating his Democratic opponent by nearly 30 points. But he's not MAGA. Okay. Texas Republicans redrew their congressional maps. This is what I was talking about earlier. In their attempt to capture five new Republican leaning House seats. And, and that slightly weakened McCall's district. Under the previous map, they had 61.6% of the population voting for Donald Trump in that district. And now it's at 60.5. They lost more than a point under the newly drawn lines, according to data from the Texas legislative council. Now, 30 points is a lot to make up, but we've done that in some Ruby Red districts. I think in Florida, one or six. I can't remember which one. So. So anyway, McCall's leaving. You're basically seeing all of the non maga Republicans kind of bowing out.
B
Yeah. All right. Target, we talked about this earlier. Target hoped that they were going to get a back to school shopping bump, but foot traffic fell, which is amazing, for the seventh straight month in August. And now a national teachers union has joined a boycott against the retailer. In August, foot Traffic fell by 3.3% year over year for target with week beginning August 25, which included the long Labor Day weekend. It's usually a big shopping weekend, dropping 4.6%. I know those numbers sound small. They're massive. Marking its worst weekly decline in seven weeks. That's according to the data. Now Target rival Costco foot Traffic was up 5.2% in August. On Labor Day, AFT President Randy Weingarten joined Chicago Teachers Union president Stacy Davis Gates and Dr. Jamal Bryant, that's the senior pastor at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest, Georgia, to announce dual union resolutions in support of the nationwide boycott against Target after the retailer rescinded its diversity, equity and inclusion efforts to comply with Trump. It's amazing. All these attacks on DEI and the communities of color are backfiring. The shareholders of Target don't fucking want this.
A
Yeah. And to say that American Federation of Teachers and Chicago Teachers Union.
B
Yeah. And I also would love that they don't seem to be going toward Amazon, you know what I mean?
A
Which is great. So for all those teachers unions to boycott Target, back to school time. That's huge. Yeah.
B
Announced during Chicago's it's called Workers Over Billionaires Labor Day March and rally the union. Support for the boycott comes as public school educators, students and their families all return to the classroom and as school supply purchases. They're front and center in many people's minds. The AFT's executive committee passed its resolution last week making it clear that its 1.8 million members, public school educators, school related personnel, higher education faculty and staff, healthcare workers, government employees, that they should spend their money elsewhere until Target reverses its stance. Since Bryant launched its boycott against Target, the retail chain has lost over 12 million billion with a B dollars in sales and has removed its CEO amid declining shopper confidence and a spiraling share price.
A
Good.
B
It works. If we do these in numbers. It works.
A
Clear messages and especially when you make, make the, you know, your position known with your wallet. Yeah, these oligarchs take notice, I think. All right, everybody, it's time for some good trouble. What are you guys doing? All right, everybody. Your good trouble mission today, should you choose to accept it, is to call or email Fox News and tell them that an apology from Brian Kilmeade is not enough and that he needs to be fired immediately because this weekend he said unhoused people should be subject to involuntary lethal injections.
B
It's a horrifying statement on national television.
A
Yet we've we fire Matthew Dowd from MSNBC because he said Charlie Kirk. He said what Charlie Kirk said. But kill me just gets to get away with a, by the way, Gaslighty apology. One of those kind of shitty apologies.
B
Yeah, I'm sorry your feelings were hurt kind of apologies.
A
Yeah, he needs to be fired. So we're gonna have link in the links in the show notes to to contact Fox News, including an email address fox feedbackoxnews.com let them know that they really need to fire Kill me for those comments. Apologies are not enough. Seriously, that was a horrible thing to say and dangerous.
B
Yeah.
A

I've been with you in spirit from Canada since the Kitchen Table days. Ag I hope you sometimes take a moment to think, holy shit, I'm amazing. What an incredible community and media company you have built. Thank you. So here's my good news with swearing. Most Canadians are fucking stressed about what's happening in the United States. I can only imagine what it's like for Americans, especially for you two. Not just living through it, but choosing to do so in a state of informed engagement. It's so much easier to put your head in the sand.
B
Amen.
A
Jmw.
B
Seriously.

Lately it felt like Americans were getting kind of despondent. I mean, who wouldn't? But it really worried me because one thing everybody knows about Americans is that they love their democracy and they and don't try to take away their goddamn freedom. If the fight went out of you guys, I thought that would be terrible for all of us. Then a couple weeks ago, Ag, I came to your city. My friend and I wrote a play and got it produced at the Old Globe Theater. We decided to come see it because, well, San Diego. On the first day, as we were leaving our hotel, the doorman said, are you going to the event? I said, what event? The no Kings rally. He said, oh, there they are. We looked down the street and literally 60,000 people were marching in our direction. They had signs, chants, drums, some pretty funny slogans. They came in all shapes and sizes and ages, and they were mad. Peaceful, but mad. So we marched with them, just two quiet imposters from Canada. And I like to think of myself as a strong person, but there were tears streaming down my middle aged, freckly face. They haven't given up. They're still fighting. Obviously, I should have known that. It gave me hope. And your podcast, your determination and passion and oh, my God, the facts, facts, facts. They give people hope, too. You're our guides through Hades. So my good news is, the people of San Diego and AG's podcast empire thank you, pod women. Never give up, never surrender. Never give up, never surrender. Thank you for quoting Galaxy Quest. And here's my pod pet, Terif. Her name is Pouncer because as my son will tell you, he named her when he was 8. He's now 6ft tall with smelly feet and an attitude, but he still adores the cat. And here is your 80s reference for today. Pouncer. Pouncer the wonder cat. I don't care if he is too fat or a bat or a cat or too fat. That. What movie is that from? All right. Look at this sweet baby.
B
Oh, my gosh, they're both adorable.
A
Oh, my God, the beautiful hair on the sun. I gotta say. Yeah, that is amazing. Ah, thank you so much. Thank you so much.
B
We're still fighting, I promise.
A
Canada. I know.
B
Northern neighbors. We're doing the best we can and.
A
Our media just isn't showing you those. We have so many protests going on, so I'm so glad you were there and got to see it in person. It was amazing.
B
All right, this is from Anonymous. No pronouns given. Hey, Beans Queens. I don't have a lot of good news today. Not going to burden you with the bad, but put out a strongly worded request check on your neighbors. If you don't know them, please get to know them. Some of them literally just want people to say hi to them or need some help around the house. If you're not comfortable going inside, be the person who reaches out to organizations. Help the organizations who help people step up. Help veterans. Organizations especially now, thank a veteran for their support. I can think of more things and I'm sure you can too. I usually share my name, but I'm staying anonymous today and I'm going to share a photo of a cat named Mittens who is nine years old, shelter cat for adoption from Animal Allies. And we're going to have a link to this adorable cat named Kittens that looks like a dog that I think we're supposed to guess their breed. And I'm very confused right now by the picture.
A
I think this dog photo belongs to a different post.
B
I would think so. I'm like, mittens looks a lot like a Shih Tzu and a Maltese. Let's see.
A
Let's see what happens in the later.
B
Sounds good. We're gonna keep reading, but we do have the shelter link in the show notes we do.
A
And there's a cat named Mittens who's up for adoption from Animal Allies. Thank you so much. Anonymous thank you for that. That's a great suggestion. Check on your neighbors. Thank a veteran. Next up, from Denise Pronoun. She and her hello Beans Queens. I swore I would write you with this good news if it ever happened. And it finally did. The house that is the entrance to our neighborhood, a busy corner with a light, was always flying Trump flags above the American flag in their backyard. Oh, that's against flag code visible to the big boulevard and the street that turns into our neighborhood after November. The flag was Trump won 2016, 2020, 2024. And there was also a Don't Tread on Me in their front yard. Everyone who ever visited me always commented on it. Well, this week it was gone. I neglected to take a before pic, but here's a photo with just the American flag. I even checked Zillow to see if they had moved. They haven't. I live in Southern California in a district that Derek tran won by 672 votes. If the redistricting passes, I'll be in another district, but the change should help Congressman Tran win by a bit more. Fingers crossed. I know exactly where you're talking about, my friend. And congratulations on that Trump flag coming down.
B
Yep.
A
And the thing is, is they didn't take all their flags down. They left the American flag up and took the Trump down.
B
They sure did.
A
I hope was above the American flag. So you had to take it both down to get and put the thing.
B
Oh, yep, yep.
A
Right. Yeah. Very good.
B
Look at you. All right, this next one's from anonymous pronoun she and her hi Beans Queens. There are two Trump supporting houses that I pass every day on my way to work. One has a Trump sign nailed high up on a tree and the other has a large Trump flag hanging on a pole on the front house. One house took their flag down. Another story after January 6th, but put it back up after Trump won in November. I took you up on good trouble a while back and I sent them both an anonymous letter expressing my concern for the children in the neighborhood since they support a pedophile. Oh shit. Nothing changed until the day after Charlie Kirk was shot when the flag was gone. I have no idea why they took it down or if my letter had anything to do with it, but I was glad to see it gone nonetheless. The house with the sign on the tree recently sold, so hopefully that sign may be coming down too. Trump Free Commute might be in my future for my bod pet tariff. I'm enclosing a picture of my ball obsessed fur baby and your ball obsessed fur baby's adorable.
A
So cute. Yeah.
B
I'm telling you, like I don't know if the reason that one, but all of these people, you see a Trump flag come down, it's my hope that these, I'm telling you, these Republicans in red areas that maybe you're like, I've had a fuck enough. We'll see.
A
Maybe, maybe, might be. I feel endangered as a Trump supporter now.
B
I feel like on the Charlie Kirk story, I think that might be with that, but I don't know.
A
Who knows? Never know, never can tell. But I don't know. I think it's a good thing when those flags come down. Yep. All right, next up from Anonymous pronoun she and her look at these photos. Hi. From sisters Diane and Gail from northern Minnesota. We're here for the summer and we stay until the trees change color and then we head back to Sun City, Arizona. That's very wise, Anonymous. You do not like to spend the summer in Sun City, Arizona.
B
My God.
A
These pictures are from the lake at her cabin of the trees changing daily on my yellow kayak. Is Indy enjoying the ride? India, short for indictment, as she was rehomed with me during the first indictment of our felon who's now in the White House. Also, we were in a parking lot today in Grand Rapids, Minnesota and saw this car with all these silly stickers. So here's my bird picture. Have a great day. Look at the trees. Look how beautiful.
B
Oh my God, these stickers. What is wrong with people?
A
Hoop has a Benghazi bumper sticker.
B
I know what the oh good lord.
A
Great bird watching photo.
B
It is good. This is from Alexis pronouncing her hi Bean a Lings. Because everything is a lot these days, I thought I'd pass along a little dumb thing I did in the name of feeling good. For context. After the the crushing blow of the election and the inauguration of our lumbering hell beast in Chief, a few of my friends and I were a bit desperate for community and a soft place to land. I created a new group chat on signal where we could come together to panic, soothe each other, celebrate small wins and rage against the dying of democracy. In a stroke of inspiration, I named the group chat Community Bitches because if there is one thing we need right now, it's community. The pronunciation with the punctuation is important on this submission. That group chat is a regular highlight of my day. So, for the Labor Day protest, I decided I would make us all community bitch friendship bracelets, wherein it reminds me that there's strength in numbers, even if it's just a few. We often reference the latest episode of the Daily Beans. So I like to think that you all and the entire Leguminati are also part of our community. Bitches, thank you for everything you do. Yours and sweary accessories.
A
Oh, I would like to officially, as a. As the CEO of MSW Media, endorse Community.
B
Yep, absolutely.
A
Thank you very much. And look at this wonderful bracelet. Community.
B
So good.
A
Fantastic.
B
I love our community.
A
Community, you. So wonderful. So great. So great. Thank you so much for that. I needed that. We needed all that good news. Send us all your good news, please. All of it. Even if you don't think it's that big of a deal. It is. I promise somebody, one person at least, will be have their day changed because of your good news. Agreed, Tiny, you can do because Community.
B
That's right.
A
So send your good news to us@dailybeanspod. Now I want to change the email address to communitybitches.com. send your email to. Or send your good news in@dailybeanspod.com and just click on contact. So thank you all very much, and thank you for supporting independent media. As you can tell, it's more important than ever now.
B
Yeah.
A
And one last giant virtual hug to the LGBTQ plus, especially trans community, for all the shit they're trying to put you through. Yeah. Right now. And have always.
B
I texted I probably made a mistake, but that. The screenshot you sent me that about the bullets. Big fans and the shooter trans. I sent it to Congresswoman Sarah McBride because we are dear friends. And then I was like, maybe I shouldn't have texted that to a sitting congresswoman. Like, regardless of how they, you know, how she identifies. I was like, whoops. Hopefully everything's okay. Maybe. Hopefully there's two phones. Maybe there's a personal phone and a congressional phone.
A
That's my hope. As a reminder, everybody, Molly White said on Twitter the shooter is trans. Okay. The bullets were trans. Okay. The roommate is trans. Kash Patel, sweating profusely. Is anyone nearby trans? That's the screenshot I sent Dana earlier today. Yeah. All right, everybody. Thank you so much. And we'll be in your ears. Will be in your ears tomorrow. Please go to moleshirote.com, check out my latest. My second episode ever of my first ever video podcast is out. And I go over all the FBI and corporate media failures that have happened this week. Plus, I get to congratulate my friend E. Jean on her win at the Second Circuit, which we talked about, I think on Friday, and I'm and a couple of other important news stories that may have flown under the radar. So that's Mueller she wrote down. It's free to subscribe to my substack, so thank you very much and we'll be back on your ears tomorrow. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health and take care of your family. I've been ag.

Hosts: Allison Gill (AG) & Dana Goldberg (DG)
In “Misinform, Retract, Repeat,” hosts Allison Gill and Dana Goldberg dive deep into the dangers of media misreporting and retractions in the wake of the recent Charlie Kirk shooting. The episode explores the corporate media’s recklessness, the weaponization of misinformation—especially against the transgender community—and highlights the role (and failings) of major news outlets. The hosts balance the heavy news cycle with good trouble action items and uplifting community good news, keeping their signature mix of snark, empathy, and fact-based commentary.
