MSW Media. Hello, and welcome to the Daily beans for Friday, January 24, 2025. Today, the Trump administration is running up against the bureaucracy that they're trying to dismantle. A federal judge has blocked Donald Trump's birthright citizenship nonsense. Virginia Democrats have advanced reproductive voting and marriage rights amendments. More than 50 Reddit communities are banning links to Musk's Twitter. Inauguration ratings were in the toilet this year. DHS has suspended all its advisory committees as the National Health Institute pulls all funding for medical research. And an aide to Speaker Mike Johnson advises him against subpoenaing Cassidy Hutchinson for fear it will expose sexually explicit text messages sent to her by congressmen. I'm Alison Gill.
Dana Goldberg
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Alison Gill
Hey, Dana, how are you? It's a little bit of a more positive news day today.
Dana Goldberg
A little bit more indeed. I'm actually curious about this Cassidy Hutchinson story because I feel like if someone says, don't subpoena her, because it's gonna expose explicit text messages that were sent to her by congressmen, like, you've already. You've already told everyone what's going to come up, and now people are like, maybe we should investigate that even without subpoenaing her.
Alison Gill
Yeah, or she could just release them, but, I mean, that puts her in the crosshairs. So. Yeah, you know, Gross.
Dana Goldberg
Gross. Men. Not all men. Lots of men. Gross.
Alison Gill
Yeah, all Republicans in Congress.
Dana Goldberg
Like I said, not all men. Don't. Don't send angry messages to me already.
Alison Gill
Right, yes, no, absolutely. There are some great people named Chad, for example.
Dana Goldberg
Nobody named Chad is a good person.
Alison Gill
Not all chads.
Dana Goldberg
Not all chads. Listen, if you're a listener, your name is Chad. Again, please don't write in not all Chad.
Alison Gill
I feel like even though we probably would only sell, like, four shirts, we should have a shirt that says not all chads.
Dana Goldberg
There you go.
Alison Gill
We would learn quickly how many chads listen to our podcast.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, yes, we would.
Alison Gill
Uh, but we do have some pretty good news stories today to share with you. Also, my inbox has been flooded since I asked federal workers to reach out to me through DM and then on to signal and email. And I've written it up. I've written up all of the patterns that I'm hearing. I mean, I'm talking. I'm, like, inundated with federal workers who are looking for advice, assistance, help, or just want to share what's going on in their agencies. It's pretty chaotic.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, I bet.
Alison Gill
There's a lot of rescissions of rescissions. And, and I've written it all up@military road.com but like there was a one thing that is pretty new is that the Trump administration had canceled like if anyone had been hired to work at the federal government but had not started yet, they withdrew all those job offers. And then they got so much pushback because a lot of these were nurses and LPNs and nursing assistants for the Department of Veterans affairs that were desperately needed that the Trump administration has rescinded the rescission of their job offers and are re offering them the positions. And that should be happening in the next day or two. But it's, it's just chaos and there's a lot of worry, understandable worry and fear and uncertainty going on in the federal government. And I just want to say if you are listening and you are part of our federal workforce, we love you and we support you. You can send me DMs, you can send me emails. I will keep you anonymous. But it's turning out to be quite a, quite a research project about what's going on. And we'll talk about some of those agency decisions and their impacts a little bit later. In Hot Notes, Harry Dunn broke some really cool news on the cleanup on aisle 45 bonus episode that comes out this weekend. He didn't tell the media. He wouldn't let me post about it on social media. So only the patrons of Cleanup are going to get to hear it. And so you'll want to tune in to that for sure. And it's Friday here on the Beans. That means it's Fugal saying Friday. So I'll be talking to our friend John Fugal saying and we're going to talk about the right Reverend Marianne Buddy and her incredible bravery and courage this week. As you can imagine, the backlash from Republicans is ridiculous and it exposes them for the fucking frauds that they are.
Dana Goldberg
Yes, it's also super bigoted and in sometimes homophobic comments because a lot of people thought that she was a lesbian and she's not. She's married to a man named Paul. So that's also some of those have just been abhorrent. But also in my eyes, there's some humor behind that of these people not being able to tell the difference between that's why this whole thing about like trans people in bathrooms, like fuck off. You can't tell. You always can't tell. So you can't tell and stop it. Everyone just stop it.
Alison Gill
And you know what else I love so much, speaking of our wonderful trans friends, is how many federal government employees are transgender.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Alison Gill
And, and, and serving the American people, which, you know, sending hugs to all of you as well. It did this whole thing with the taking away the DEIA and the a. You know, we know DEI A stands for accessibility. They want to like yank accessibility for disabled. It's horrible. And it's blowing up in their faces. So check, check out what I wrote@military road.com all right, we have a lot of news to get to today, so. But first, we have some quick hits. First up from NBC, after Twitter owner Elon Musk, the article here says, made a hand gesture that many people said resembled a Nazi salute, I will go ahead and say when Elon Musk gave a Nazi salute. Twice. Twice. A protest movement has erupted across the social media platform Reddit. NBC News has identified more than 50 subreddit communities where moderators have since announced that links from Twitter will no longer be allowed in new posts and comments. The communities protesting range in size from dozens of members to millions, totaling at least 40 million members. Typically, only a fraction of these members are active, particularly in older or larger subreddits. But There are around 100,000 active subreddits on the platform.
Dana Goldberg
Wow. Thank you, Allison. And this one's from Truth Out. Democratic lawmakers in Virginia have advanced three constitutional amendments to restore voting rights, protect reproductive freedoms, and enshrine marriage equality in the state's highest governing document. This is why voting matters. Down ballot. The measures passed with Virginia's House of Delegates last week mainly along partisan lines, with all Democrats in the Chamber of voting in support of them and most of the Republican caucus voting against. The amendments passed in the Senate on Tuesday, again mostly along party lines. To become an amendment, a measure must pass by a majority vote of both houses within the Virginia General assembly, after which round of new legislation elections has to take place. After that election process happens, the measure must be passed again, which places it on a statewide ballot for voters to give their up or down approval on. If voters vote in favor of the measure, it becomes codified. Codified in the state constitution.
Alison Gill
Awesome. Thank you, Virginia Democrats. Next up from the Guardian, 9 million fewer viewers tuned in for Donald Trump's inaugural. Can I get some sad trombone music tuned in for Donald Trump's inauguration ceremony than for Joe Biden's in 2021? That's according to audience measurement company Nielsen. 24.6 million watched the former reality TV personality take office, compared with 33.8 million who saw Joe Biden's 2021 inauguration. The numbers of viewers was also significantly down on the 30.6 million Americans who watched Trump's first inauguration, this time the majority of viewers were aged 55 and over, with 17% of all US citizens in that age bracket watching, compared with 1.9% of people aged 18 to 34. Now, you gotta wonder who's got a Nielsen set top box, right? And it's probably not a lot of. Not a lot of youths, a lot.
Dana Goldberg
Of Gen Z. Yeah.
Alison Gill
But I'm sure that they fix, you know, they, they make up for that discrepancy when they, when they weigh these. So, anyway, a couple of good bits of good news. We have some more news to get to. Let's do that. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, Dana, here's the story you were curious about. This is from the Anchorage Daily News. An aide to House Speaker Mike Johnson advised Republican colleagues against subpoenaing former White House aide Cassidy Hutchinson as part of their investigation into the investigation of January 6th to prevent the release of sexually explicit text messages that lawmakers sent to her. That's according to written correspondence reviewed by the Post and a person familiar with the effort. The aide intervened last June. This is a while back, citing concerns that a subpoena could expose these text messages. According to the correspondence and the person who requested anonymity to speak candidly about private conversations, Johnson revived the investigation this week as part of an effort by President Donald Trump and his allies to seek retribution against perceived political enemies, including those who investigated his role in the Capitol attack.
Dana Goldberg
Wait, so are they. Would they want to go after Cassidy at this point, like they're seeking retribution against Cassidy Hutchinson?
Alison Gill
Well, they're.
Dana Goldberg
They're in because she testified.
Alison Gill
You know how Republicans do the thing where they investigate the investigations into them.
Dana Goldberg
Ah, yes, yes. Okay.
Alison Gill
So Johnson wants to investigate. Put Barry Loudermilk in charge of investigated. He did this in the last Congress, too, of investigating the investigations into Jaron. And part of that, they were going to subpoena Cassidy Hutchinson in and probably try to make her say that. You know, remember when she testified that the driver of the suv, the presidential suv, like, grabbed somebody by the neck? And that's because someone told her that that's what happened. But they probably would be like, were you there? Did you see it? No, I said that in my test. You know, they were probably just trying to trip her up, make her look like an idiot. But every time the Republicans want to investigate investigation, I'm like, you're going to step on your own dick y. You know, like, remember when Durham wanted to investigate Bob Mueller's investigation, and the only crime they found was one that Trump committed in Italy. We never.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, they were like, oops.
Alison Gill
We never learned what that crime was because Durham's a pile of garbage. But, like, guys. All right. Way to go, Rake steppers. So in a meeting following the June conversation, Johnson and senior aides also conveyed to Representative Barry Loudermilk and members of his staff that issuing a subpoena to Hutchinson and asking her to testify under oath would serve as another opportunity for her to retell her story and potentially embarrass the Trump White House. According to two people present at the meeting, Loudermilk had publicly floated the idea of issuing a subpoena to Hutchinson, who was elevated to national prominence in an explosive 2022 hearing where she testified that President Trump had wanted an armed mob to march to the capital on January 6 and that he wanted to join them. Before the meeting, a Johnson aide told Loudermilk staff that multiple colleagues raised concerns with the Speaker's office about the potential for public disclosure of sexual texts from members who were trying to engage in sexual favors with Cassidy Hutchinson. That's according to the correspondent produced at the time that detailed this conversation. Separately, a member of Johnson's staff told Barry Loudermilk aides that Hutchinson could, quote, potentially reveal embarrassing information. No shit. In the last Congress, Loudermilk headed a Republican investigation into the January 6 attack on the Capitol, which included among its targets the Democratic probe of the attack that finished its work in 2022. Critics have attacked the GOP investigation as part of Trump's effort to rewrite the history of what happened that day and to seek retribution against those who blamed him for inciting violence. Loudermilk was considering issuing a subpoena to obtain testimony and electronic communications from Hutchinson because he believed she could provide fresh information. That's according to two people involved with the probe about one of the panel's central targets and top political foe of President Trump, who had orchestrated Hutchinson's surprise testimony, former Representative Liz Cheney. So there you go. There's your answer. They wanted to see if they could get Hutchinson to testify against Liz Cheney.
Dana Goldberg
Got it.
Alison Gill
The Washington Post reviewed documentation reflecting the Speaker's Office's concerns ahead of the June meeting between him and Loudermilk that corroborated the person's account, but has not seen the purported sexually explicit messages or identified who sent them or whether Hutchinson responded. So, hey, Cassidy Hutchinson, if you're listening, release those text messages.
Dana Goldberg
Yes. Someone link them. Why not? You have nothing to lose at this point. All Right. This is from CBS News. The Department of Homeland Security has terminated its advisory committees. This is terrible, terrifying in many ways, wiping out decades of institutional experience and abruptly ending a sweeping investigation into the Chinese linked hack US Telecom companies. This is sources familiar with the move. That's what they confirmed with CBS News. Now, according to a memo signed by acting DHS Secretary Benjamin Hoffman and obtained by CBS News, the decision to disband multiple advisory committees is being made, quote, in alignment with the Department of Homeland securities, the dhs, that committee to eliminate the misuse of resources and ensuring that DHS activities prioritize our national security. Quote, I'm directing the termination of all current memberships on the advisory committees with DHS effective immediately. This is what the memo dated January 20, stated. DHS has had several advisory committees, including panels that offer advice to department personnel on issues including natural disaster and emergency preparedness, critical infrastructure, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. Among them in the Cyber Safety Review Board, a body designated to emulate the National Transportation Safety Board. The group is conducting a comprehensive investigation into the hack of the American telecom companies by Beijing actors dubbed, quote, salt Typhoon, now described by some lawmakers as the most devastating breach in telecom history. The ongoing cyber espionage operation comprised the metadata of hundreds of thousands of Americans, plus targeted the communications of Donald Trump, Vice President J.D. vance and other senior government officials. This is all from CBS News. In a statement, Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon said the move, quote, waved a white flag to Chinese hackers, quote, disbanding the Cyber Safety Review Board while in its middle of its investigation, the most damaging breach of American phone system in recent memory. It's a massive gift to the Chinese spies who targeted Trump, Vance and other top political figures. So also among the committees eliminated was the Homeland Security Advisory Council. Members of the committee included former secretaries of Homeland Security, DEA administrators, police union presidents and CEOs of Fortune 500 companies.
Alison Gill
And yeah, that's, that's very frightening to just disband all of this, especially the investigation into Salt Typhoon. Yeah, that's unheard of. Next up from Tierney Snead at cnn. A federal judge said Thursday that President Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship was, quote, blatantly unconstitutional and issued a temporary restraining order blocking it. This is Judge John Kohenhauer, a Ronald Reagan appointee who sits in Seattle. He granted the request by Washington Attorney General Nick Brown and three other Democratic led states for the emergency order halting implementation of the policy for the next 14 days. While there are more briefings in the legal challenge, quote, I've been on the bench for over four decades. I can't remember another case whether the question presented was as clear. That's what Kohenhauer said. Where are the lawyers? He asked. When the decision to sign the executive order was made, he said it boggled his mind that a member of the bar would claim that the order was constitutional. The Democratic led states are seeking a temporary restraining order as they argue that Trump's executive order is a blatant violation of the Constitution's 14th Amendment, which guarantees citizenship to all children born on U.S. soil and subject to the jurisdiction thereof. An attorney for the state of Washington, Lane Polazola, told the judge that births cannot be paused while the court considers the case. Babies are being born here today and in the plaintiff states and around the country with a cloud cast over their citizenship. That's what Polozola said. A handful of other lawsuits have been brought this week against the order, including by a separate group of Democratic attorneys general, immigrant rights groups, and individual plaintiffs. During a status conference held Thursday in one of these cases, the Seattle one, a lawyer for the Justice Department told a federal judge in oh no, this is Maryland, excuse me, not Seattle, that he wasn't aware of any federal agencies that have taken steps to begin enforcement of the order. That challenge was brought by immigrant rights groups and pregnant women in the state whose babies could be impacted by this order. Quote, the executive order was issued three days ago during a time of change of administration, and so it's very early for the agencies to develop their policies that would be necessary to implement it. That's the attorney, Brad Rosenberg, telling that to U.S. district Judge Deborah Boardman. The judge is set to consider a request by the plaintiffs to temporarily block the order during a hearing Feb. 5. Meanwhile, in a case brought by the ACLU and other civil rights and immigrants rights groups in New Hampshire, a federal judge there has set a hearing for February 10th to consider the group's request to block the order from taking effect for now. So this is a temporary order blocking it from going into effect federally from a federal judge for 14 days while he considers a restraining order to stop the order from going into effect for the duration of the pendency of the legislation.
Dana Goldberg
Wow. Okay. Thank you, Allison. This one's from Science Advisor President Donald Trump's return to the White House. It's already having a big impact at the 47.4 billion US National Institutes of Health. That's the NIH, with the new administration imposing a wide range of restrictions, including the abrupt cancellation of meetings, including grant review Panels officials have also ordered a communications pause, a freeze on hiring and indefinite ban on travel. Now, the moves have generated extensive confusion and uncertainty at the nation's largest research agency, which has become a target for Trump's political allies. Quote, the impact of the collective executive orders and directives appears devastating. This is what one senior NIH employee said. Today, for example, officials halted mainstream, a training workshop for junior scientists called off a workshop on adolescent learning minutes before it was about to begin. And they canceled meetings of two advisory councils. Panels that were scheduled to review grant proposals also received 11th hour word that they wouldn't be in meeting and I quote, this kind of disruption could have long ripple effects. This is from Jane Liebschutz, an opioid addiction researcher at the University of Pittsburgh who posted on Blue sky about the canceled study sections. Quote, even short delays will put the United States behind in research. She and colleagues are feeling a lot of uncertainty, fear and panic. The hiring freezes government wide, whereas a pause on communications and travel that appears to be limited to the Department of Health and Human Services, the HHS, the NIH's parent agency. Such pauses, they're not unprecedented when a new administration comes in. But NIH staff suggest these measures, which include pulling job ads and rescinding offers like we spoke about earlier, are more extreme than any previously NIH travel chief Glenda Conroy, she sent an email to senior agency officials earlier today notifying them of, quote, an immediate and indefinite suspension of all travel throughout hhs, with few exceptions, such as currently traveling employees returning home, researchers who plan to present their work at meetings. They must cancel their trips, as must NIH officials promoting agency programs off site or visiting distant branches of the agency. Quote, future travel requests for any reason are not authorized and should not be approved. This is what the memo said, the travel ban, it's left many researchers, especially young scientists, bewildered. This is from senior NIH scientists who asked to remain anonymous. Today. The scientists encountered one group of early career researchers who were scheduled to attend and present at a distant conference next week, presentations that are now impossible. Quote, people are just at a loss because they also don't know what's coming next. I've never seen this level of confusion, concern in people that are extremely dedicated to their mission. This is from, again, the scientists that wanted to stay anonymous. Even more troubling to many researchers is a pause on study sections that many received word of today. Without such meetings, nih, they cannot make research awards. Previous administrations have imposed communications pauses in their first days. And the administration of former President Barack Obama continue to cap on attendance at scientific meetings first imposed by former President George W. Bush's administration, which in some cases meant staff canceled trips to meetings. But an immediate blanket ban on travel. That's unusual. This says one longtime researcher in NIH's intramural program. Quote, I don't think we've ever had this. And it's pretty devastating for a postdoc or graduate student who needs to present their work and network to move ahead in their career. This is from the researcher. Another consequence of the communications pause, According to the NIH, staff are involved with clinical trials at NIH's Clinical center is that agency staff can't meet with patients groups or release newsletters or other information to recruit patients into trials. Another unknown is whether NIH researchers will still be allowed to submit papers to peer reviewed journals. This is nuts. The various directives have shaken the vast community of the intramural scientists NIH supports. Quote, we have not seen anything concrete from NIH yet. This is from one scientist at a major academic medical center. And this person said, but just like about everyone in science, we are worried and waiting, man.
Alison Gill
That. I'm not sure why that's not just front page.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Alison Gill
Everywhere that they're stopping medical research.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Alison Gill
Oh, it's. It's mind boggling again. Shocked. Not surprised, right?
Dana Goldberg
Yeah. Every day. Every day.
Alison Gill
Yeah, pretty much. Thank you for that reporting. But now, everybody, it's time for some good trouble. What are you guys doing? Today's good trouble comes from an op ed in Teen Vogue that explains how to start an ICE Watch neighborhood program in your community. Nikki Marine baena writes in 2017, following a previous set of Trump executive orders, immigrant families in North Carolina were inundated by misinformation and rumors about ICE agents hidden in grocery store parking lots and supposed substations near after school facilities, leading some people to avoid leaving home. There were no Spanish language rumor verification hotlines here in Greensboro, so our organization, which was just a handful of volunteers at the time, created one, giving more people the ability to talk to a live human and ask whether an undated Facebook post they'd seen shared by someone else was real. We also trained hundreds of volunteers with driver's licenses to participate in an ICE Watch neighborhood watch program, giving immigrant parents a way to verify the rumors. People forwarded them in WhatsApp app. So there's a link in the show notes to this article with resources and links on how to start your own neighborhood ICE Watch program if you are so inclined. That's your good trouble for today. We'll be right back with John Fugle saying after these messages. We'll be right back. Hello, Alison. I'm. I'm sending out a Roman salute to all your listeners. Hi, guys.
Alison Gill
Oh, is that what that is?
C
Oh, that. Yeah, I just found out. I feel so good about it now. Yeah.
Alison Gill
Yeah. All right. Oh, good. I'm glad that we've explained that.
C
Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, definitely. And the same with the Hitler mustache. That was a chaplain reference when he did that. That was all it was, was chaplain, not Hitler.
Dana Goldberg
So.
C
Yeah.
Dana Goldberg
Nothing Nazi.
C
Yeah. And the fact that he just endorsed the Nazi party in Germany has nothing to do with any of this.
Alison Gill
So please, just.
C
Can we stop, people? I know he's a white supremacist. Apartheid, Nepo Baby millionaire at birth, who's got a history of white supremacy and endorsing Nazi parties in Germany right now. But stop comparing them to Nazis, please. Can we just move beyond that and grow up? Thank you.
Alison Gill
Yeah, to throw a little eugenics in there. Oh, yeah, and you've got, You've got a recipe for, Gosh, I wonder what that salute meant.
C
You know what? If Hitler had had 12 kids with five different women, he might have been too busy to do some of the other stuff. You never know.
Alison Gill
Oh, hey, you never know. You never know. We'll never know. But something that struck me this week, you were on my mind this week as I watched the sermon at the inaugural prayer thing that happens at St. John's Episcopal, where, by the way, Donald Trump sent police with concussion rounds to clear the square of peaceful protesters so that he could pose with a Bible in front of it, doing everything that Jesus taught against doing. But listening to her look directly at Donald Trump and ask him for mercy was a very powerful moment. We played the entire clip here on the Daily Beans the day that that happened. And then the pushback, of course, has been, she's nasty, she's this, she's boring, she's not, she's not smart, unsmart, or whatever he said, simply because she asked the most powerful man in the world for mercy. And I never saw a more stark. I mean, there has been so much hypocrisy with the Christian nationalists for a long time that you and I have talked about, but I've never seen a more stark example than what happened this week. And so you were on my mind this week and I was interested in your thoughts.
C
Well, you know, it just goes to show that authoritarians are always outraged by the actual words of Jesus. And whether you believe that Jesus was the original hippie or a complete work of first century fiction or the divine son of God or a mythic faith healer who was a real guy but didn't have special powers. Whatever you think of him, he still has the power to shock people. And that's what we witnessed this week. Authoritarianism hates everything that Jesus was about because the entire Sermon on the Mount is not about. Your religion deserves to be on top. You deserve dominion over the world. It's all about humility and how you can be of service to others. And when Jesus finally gives his marching orders in Matthew 25 of what his requirements are for a Christian society and who goes to heaven and who goes to hell, it's got nothing to do with who went to church the most, who Gave the most money, who blocked the most abortions, who was the meanest of the most immigrants. He says, however you treat the lowest is how you treat me. The criteria for whether you go to heaven or hell, how you treated the poor, how you treated the sick, how you treated the incarcerated, and how you treated the immigrant. That's it. It's like his memo to the Heritage Foundation. And what we have here in America is a right wing Christian tradition since the colonial days when they owned people that views Jesus as the manger and the cross and they skip everything the guy says in between. So I got pretty amused when I heard all these right wing frauds talking about her words. And I'm like, those aren't her words. She's quoting the guy on the cross you rat bastards pretend to follow. Especially Mike Collins, the congressman who said we should deport her. First off, I love that he's named after the Apollo astronaut they wouldn't let onto the moon. He must be angry. I get it. But like, like Mike Collins just showed what Republicans think free speech is, the government punishing you with deportation for what you say. We just witnessed it in real time this week and Mike Johnson came out and did a whole post about how it was a radical ideology. She pushed her radical ideology. And you know what? He's exactly right. Referencing Jesus's commandments in Matthew 25 is a radical ideology to blaspheming frauds like Mike Johnson. When I say fake Christian, I don't mean to insult atheists and agnostic brothers and sisters. I am talking about these frauds. They despise Jesus. They don't follow him. They obey Trump. And the media has to stop letting these people hide behind a Jesus they don't follow. Please, media, ask these self professed pious Christians where in their holy books does the Christ they claim to follow specifically sanction the policies that they fight for? If these Christian politicians are going to legislate against the Gospels, then people who've read the gospels, including atheists, have a responsibility to call them out.
Alison Gill
Yeah, something interesting that a PhD in biblical studies, by the way, Dan McClellan pointed out.
C
Great guy, great guy.
Alison Gill
On his YouTube channel today. Something that I hadn't thought of because I'm not a biblical scholar. Dan is he talked about how when you're professing or proactively promoting the law, if you do it without the underlying goal of mercy and caring for the poor, then that promotion becomes sinful.
C
Yeah.
Alison Gill
And I thought, wow, you know, and that's throughout the New Testament teachings of Christ and everything else I hadn't picked up on that particular thread. But it is something that is, I think, back of the hand to folks who are biblical scholars and understand that when you promote the law in favor of yourself and your own ideology and without the actual underlying thing that should compel the law, which is mercy and caring for the poor, you are being sinful. And I thought that that was really well explained by him on his YouTube channel.
C
I mean, I don't know how far you want to go into this, but the whole notion of Jesus bringing a new covenant, right, in the Sermon on the Mount, he has this little expression he does. It's the closest he gets to a catchphrase where he says, get her done. Well, what Jesus does is when he's overturning laws, but to him, it's fulfilling the law because he thinks that we're replacing law 1.0 with love 1.0. And you calling yourself a Christian means you accept the terms and conditions of the software update. Jesus's whole thing is casting aside laws of his own faith because he is fulfilling them with love. So in the Sermon on the Mount, he says, you've heard it said this, but I say to you this. You've heard it said to this, that you shall not kill someone. I say, you shall not even hate someone or be angry at someone who deserves it. You've heard it said that you shall not commit adultery. I say, if you even look lustfully at some woman, you've already committed adultery in your heart. The whole thing where he goes through, you know, you've heard it said, an eye for an eye. I say to you, no, fuck what you heard. Turn the other cheek is how you do it. And essentially, he's overturning all or many of the Old Testament laws, but he's not overturning them through his sacrifice. The religion belief is he has fulfilled these laws and now he replaces the Ten Commandments with two commandments. Love God with all your heart and all your mind and all your soul. Love your neighbor as yourself. That's it. They will never try to post the actual words of this Jesus on the walls of courthouses or schools. You'll notice they never try to post anything Jesus actually said because they don't really follow him, and you don't need to believe it to take away their camouflage.
Alison Gill
So if you follow those two, you automatically follow those 10.
C
Yeah, so exactly. Except Donald Trump has violated all 10 of those 10. I mean, I'll go through every one. He's violated all 10. So when they put these up in a classroom in Louisiana. Those kids really are learning something. They're learning not to take their parents seriously when they say, memorize all these rules and watch me vote for a guy who wags his Dick at all. 10.
Alison Gill
And let's talk about one of these Christians in name only. You brought up Mike Johnson. I want to talk about him because first of all, when asked about the pardons for January sixers, for insurrectionists and seditious conspiracists who attacked police officers, I.
C
Call them terrorists, Dr. Gill, but I'll go with your terms, too.
Alison Gill
He said, I don't, I don't know any about that. I just, you know, I just support Donald Trump. And even more recently, he's been advised, I don't know if you heard this story today, but he's been advised by an aide. You know how he wants to actually investigate the investigation into January 6th? Because that's what Republicans do. Democrats investigate crimes. Republicans investigate the investigators who investigate crimes.
C
I can hear the price of X going down right now. Just you saying it.
Alison Gill
Yes. So an aide, a Mike Johnson aide, advised Mike Johnson to not subpoena Cassidy Hutchinson in, in his quest to expose the investigation into January 6th because it could show her testimony, could release text messages, sexually explicit text messages she received from congressmen. And I thought that was a fascinating bit of news.
C
Yeah. Wow. You're right. I think the only thing they hate more than Jesus's actual teachings is what lawyers call the discovery phase. I'm not surprised. You know, I'm not surprised by any of this. With the January six terrorists, and I do use that word, I'm going by the dictionary definition, the use of violence or the threat of violence against a population, usually civilians, to bring about policy change. That's terrorism. That's January 6th. Insurrection's fine. You know, it was also, it was a, it was a putsch. It was Hitler's beer hall putsch. And they didn't keep Hitler down and we didn't keep him down. But I talked to all these liberals who are saying, how can these people, how can these Republicans be so pro cop all the time and then reward this guy who releases these men who savagely beat cops. I talked to so many liberals and conservatives too, who can't understand this. People like the guy who assaulted Brian Sicknick, Devlin Thompson, who hit a cop with a metal baton. Robert Palmer, who attacked cops with a fire extinguisher. How can a party so obsessed in pro police rhetoric turn a blind eye to the suffering of these cops who defended our democracy on January 6th. And it's because they don't care about cops, they don't care about justice, they don't care about law and order. Their religion is authoritarianism. That's the tribe. They don't care about anything. So when a cop is beating or killing an unarmed black citizen like Breonna Taylor, Amadou Diallo, Philando Castile, Tamir Rice, the conservatives will defend this without question. Because the dead people were challenging the authoritarian order. And so they don't need to ask any questions. They always respect the authority. It's their simple religion. But when a greater authoritarian figure arises, someone who commands more power than a mere flesh and blood cop like a Donald Trump, we see the loyalty shift. The men and women in uniform don't matter. They don't back the blue. They don't care. There's a more commanding figure. I'm not talking all conservatives talking authoritarians, but you have to understand, they don't care about the flesh and blood, men and women. It's the loyalty to power. And that is how they went from back the blue to fuck the police. Because the cops who were beaten on January 6th were not serving the authoritarian cause that day. They were defending democracy, and that made them expendable. And they had to go. And that's how our Republican friends live with this. They're completely consistent.
Alison Gill
Oh, yeah, even the Fraternal Order of Police was like, I don't, we don't have any comment on, on that.
C
Oh, they never thought the leper would eat their face, did they, Allison?
Alison Gill
Sure didn't. But, you know, going back to, to Mike Johnson with this Cassidy Hutchinson thing, it reminded me of, I remember when Donald Trump appointed Durham to look into the Mueller investigation. And I was like, you sure you want to do that, buddy? Are you sure you want to look into that? And lo and behold, Durham. The reason Durham was named a special counsel by Bill Barr was because he found a crime Donald Trump committed in Italy.
C
That's right.
Alison Gill
Now we never were told about it in Durham. That's right, because that's a political piece of work and not an actual law and order piece of work. And so now we see them again when Johnson announced, we're going to investigate January. So I'd be like, you sure you want to do that? And now he's being told, duh, I don't subpoena Cassidy Hutchinson. We'll find out about sexually explicit text messages that she got from members of Congress and I. And we don't want, we don't want to bring that own heat on ourselves.
C
Gates has got to be one of them, right? Matt Gaetz has got to be one of them. We all know. I mean, I'd like to say that, you know, Cassidy Hutchinson has her own agency in this life, but what a patriot she would be if she would just release those text messages. In fact, Cassidy, if you release all of the dirty sexual text messages that legislator sent to you, I promise to release all the dirty sexual text messages that I sent to the John Durham investigator guy. I sent him a lot. They're filthy. They're really good too. I'll release them all proudly.
Alison Gill
Well, I think it was a banner week for the Episcopalians and for the teachings of Jesus because of the very brave, right Reverend Marianne Buddy. And so I urge everyone, if you haven't listened to her sermon, to do so. It's very inspiring. And you know me as agnostic, atheist, Wiccan, blah, blah, blah, pagan, heathen.
C
It's okay. It's heathen friendly. I mean, she's. She wasn't talking about religion, she was talking about Jesus. And that's why it upset the fakes.
Alison Gill
Yeah, well, yeah, everyone, I think else in the world who's got a little bit of a moral compass is still, still agrees with the teachings of Jesus.
C
Exactly right.
Alison Gill
The self proclaimed Christians, Christian nationalists who do not.
C
It's not the moral teachings that turn so many people off to Christianity. And it's not the magic tricks or Santa Claus either. It's guys like Mike Johnson.
Alison Gill
Yeah, agreed. And the media should be pointing this out. So thank you for pointing it out here. And you hear him, you can hear John Fugal saying, point this out some more. Every weeknight, 9pm Eastern, 6 Pacific on SiriusXM progress channel 127, it's called Tell me everything. And of course you can listen to the John Fugal Sank show podcast. Wherever you get your podcast, you got a book coming out called the Separation of Church and Hate. How's that going?
C
That's going good. I just got to cut another 20,000 words and that shouldn't be a problem at all. So no problem there. But yeah, going. Okay, look, everyone's stressed out. Just remember right now, America is like a mob restaurant being burned down for the insurance money. But you have a front row seat to the freak show. Don't join the freak show. As George Carlin said, don't let them see you freak out. Take notes, be good to people. And if you're feeling overwhelmed and weak, find somebody else and be strong for them.
Alison Gill
Yep. And take a break Take breaks as needed. All right, my friend, I will talk to you next Friday. It's always a pleasure and I really appreciate you coming on our show every Friday.
C
Always a joy. Thank you so much.
Alison Gill
All right, everybody, stick around. We'll be right back with the good news, everybody. Welcome back. It's time for the good news.
C
Who likes good news? Everyone?
Alison Gill
Then good news, everyone. Good news. Good news. And if you have any good news confessions, corrections, especially some pronunciation corrections or you know, any intricate details that we're putting out here as far as these executive orders go, if you have any corrections or any input that you want to give us, send it to us. Please let us know. We would love. We value your input and we want to make sure we get everything correct. Send that to us. And of course, shout outs to loved ones, yourself, small businesses in your area, maybe some people doing great community activism near you that people can sign up and help with or really great government programs that have helped you or a loved one in the past, whether it's the Affordable Care Act, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, SNAP, WIC, Head Start, Section 8 VA health care that you've received that you enjoy, the $35 insulin cap, anything at all, including student debt forgiveness, send that to us as well. And all you got to do to get your good news and shout outs submitted is pay your POD pet tax, which means attach a photo of your pet. If you want us to guess the breeds in your shelter pup, we can give it a try. We're not very good. But if you don't have a pet, you can send us an adoptable pet in your area. We can see if we can find him a forever home around near you. And if you don't have that any animal photo really at all, just grab one off the Internet. It's fine.
Dana Goldberg
We love them.
Alison Gill
Good way to pay your taxes, especially baby animals. And speaking of babies, we also love baby pictures. You can send your baby pictures. Yes, please. And then of course, bird watching photos. That's you and your friends and your loved ones flipping the bird to Trump Properties. We're going to be doing that for the indefinite future. So set those in DailyBeansPod.com and click on contact. All right.
Dana Goldberg
Do you mind if I start? Only because this one's for me and I'm actually really appreciative of this correction.
Alison Gill
A hundred percent, my friend. You go.
Dana Goldberg
Thank you. This is from Jay. Pronouns, they, them. And I want to say before I read this, normally I am very good about this. In fact, I go to bat with People that are, that are getting this wrong on social media time and time again. But I definitely slipped and I'm so glad Jay sent in this correction. Well, maybe suggestion. So greetings fine ladies of Laguna Lumiaria. All right, thank you for bringing us the information each day. It's been so difficult dealing these days and we are only a few days in. You two have been great about supporting trans folk, but there was one thing I heard Dana say now more than ever, I think important not to use the word gender when referring to the body. J. Thank you. Like I said, much better about this, but I, I know I slipped on the podcast. Gender in parentheses, non binary, woman, man, fluid, et cetera. It's part of the cloak that we wear to interact with society. Sex, female, male, intersex, et cetera would be the anatomical, primary and secondary sex characteristics. Again, please keep doing the good work and consuming all this dren being put out to help us know how to continue. Maybe we can get the Democrats to realize that they did wrong and not do it again. Like blame trans people for Harris's loss. Keep on bringing some joy to our days, Jay, again, thank you for the correction and suggestion. And yeah, I appreciate the submission.
Alison Gill
That's wonderful. I'm so glad they wrote in because you know, my trans friends, after all the finger pointing started happening after the election, yeah, there were some fairly famous podcasters that were going after this issue and being like we should basically throw our, our trans friends under the bus in order to win elections. And to that I say fuck off.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, aoc, I think said it best. She said, you don't have to abandon the LGBTQ community. You need to learn how to throw a punch.
Alison Gill
Fuck. Oh, I love her.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, me too.
Alison Gill
All right, next up from Anonymous, I want to share some good news about a government action that technically happened concluded during the current administration. On Wednesday, my son in law became a United States citizen.
Dana Goldberg
Nice.
Alison Gill
He became a citizen because he married my oldest seven years ago and loved him enough to do this. It was completed 75 days after filing the paperwork, a time period much shorter than anyone believed could happen. His category was as spouse of a US citizen. I'm happy for them that the strain of wondering about citizenship has lifted. I told them I was happy that he was willing to join our country as a citizen despite the current political mess. Both were born in countries that have laws making their love criminally punishable. Because of this, and knowing people in those countries, I won't share a picture of them with their loving, happy smiles. After the citizenship ceremony. I hope you will just imagine a picture of two very happy men. For podpet tax I give you sleepy teenager at the end of a long day cuddling with her 10 year old dog. Oh the dogs dogs love.
Dana Goldberg
They're so sweet.
Alison Gill
Dogs know all right.
Dana Goldberg
It's our Tony Pronouny Him. Dear Allison and Dana, when you read My Good Trouble last week you introduced me as one of your favorite contributors. When I heard that I shrieked like a schoolgirl in an Elvis concert and did that silly snoopy happy dance. My wife looked at me and said, are you okay? Do I need to call someone? I blinked twice, I played the cut and she said oh my affirmation from two of my heroes is such a transcendent drug. Means so much to me, particularly in these soul searing times. Thank you. You mentioned hoping to hear from me about the People's March. Yes. Here goes. I got to Franklin park for the start of the march and raised my big flags in chilly rain. As people gathered, I heard a couple nearby saying, we are over by the big ass pride flag.
Alison Gill
People are meeting at you Tony.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, I said to them. I get used for landmark all the time. An older gentleman beside me said, you're always a landmark for the laguminati. He had heard Thursday's pod and he recognized me. It's the second dose of that transcendent drug. It was amazing. We chatted a bit and then he moved off. My flagpole is in three sections. The American flag is bent to the top, the pride to the middle and a bear pole at the bottom. Just as we started marching, the bottom conn snapped and the flags fell. Fortunately, the people behind me caught them and carefully kept the American flag off the ground. I stowed the pride flag in my carry sleeve and put the bottom pole in the American flag so I could continue. Winds were light, so on a short pole it mostly draped over my head and shoulders. We got to the Lincoln Memorial for speeches and music and I was feeling disappointed that I couldn't fly my pride flag and the American flag was not high as it should be. I soon noticed the typical theo fascist counter protesters with their vile signs and gruesome pictures. So I started over to try to obstruct their view with my flag to the fine folk who had helped me earlier asked me to unfurl the pride flag again so that they could hold it up in front of the protest. As soon as they stretched it out, all of the photographers started clicking away. I was happy that pride flag was put to good use after all There may have been as many as 50,000 people there. And it was diverse crowd representing just about every concern. Reproductive rights, climate, queer rights, indigenous people's rights and so on. It's good to be reminded that we're not alone and we are not going crazy much. I'm sharing my pod pet tax, my 17 year old dachshund Ellie and my 93 year old father just a few days in this last picture I took of him. He passed just a few days later. He was truly a good man. He taught me much of what makes me me. And I can see his legacy and the things I have been able to pass on to my own children. Ah. I'm also sharing a shot of my pride flag which just after the Theo fascists fled from the queer cooties. Peace and love to all Illuminati P s. This Saturday, I'm going to an anti fascist rally in Cleveland with a reinforced flagpole. Right on.
Alison Gill
Look at this. They're blocking. They're using that pride flag to block anti protesters. That's so great.
Dana Goldberg
I love it, I love it, I love it.
Alison Gill
Ah, so glad to hear from you. I knew, I knew we'd be hearing from Tony soon.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, we knew.
Alison Gill
Wonderful. Thank you. All right, next up from B break, I hope I'm that break. I hope I'm saying that right. Remember, remember Panute? That's.
Dana Goldberg
I think Allison, I think that's peanut animal.
Alison Gill
The penut's mom should write in again. Send another photo of panut animal named P N U T. I'm like, like, is it newt? Is it Egyptian? Is it penut? What's happening?
Dana Goldberg
I was like, allison, I think that says peanut.
Alison Gill
Okay, thanks. So from B break, this is my cat, Beans. She shares a likeness with the pod, so I thought she'd be fun to share. She brings me lots of joy in these times. And beans is beautiful under the Christmas tree.
Dana Goldberg
So cute.
Alison Gill
And next up, I'll take the next one because that was pretty short from Jen L. Pronoun. She and her good morning to my gorgeous parasocial besties. The other day, Dana was talking about the genetics of sex gender. And as a research scientist who has dealt with a crap ton of genetics in my career, I thought I would contribute my 2 cents. Dana was referring to sex chromosome mosaicism when discussing the orange twat waffles. Attempts to limit humans in every aspect except greed and corruption. Now, just on the genetic side, humans have about six genetic sexes that are seen with a frequency of greater than 1 in 3,000 births. They are XO only one X chromosome XX, XY, XXY, XYY and XXX. There are more if you keep adding X or Y chromosomes, but their frequencies become extremely rare. Scientists have known for a very long time that human sex genetics are much more complex than what is generally recognized by society. To complicate things, this doesn't even begin to address the incredible ways our genetics manifest during development. That is, sex characteristics can have no relation to a person's sex chromosomes, nor does it delve into the beautiful spectrum of gender identity and sexual attraction. It is amazing that the general public are slowly recognizing that human sexuality is so much more complex and fascinating than we once believed. And yes ag humans are deuterostomes or deuterostomies. I don't know if that to pronounce that. So we are technically we all start out as an asshole. Seems some people get stuck at this stage of development.
Dana Goldberg
I love that line.
Alison Gill
Me too. My pod pet taxes are my son and our 14 year old cat Skittles Jelly Bean previously sent in with her bountiful rock collection and for funsies, a swan family at my parents cottage this past summer. I love you all so much. You're a light in the darkness. As a Canadian watching a U.S. horror show and the desperate attempt of Canadian right wing parties to bring Trumpism here. It's terrifying. But I fight and hope our multi party system will be more successful stopping it. Me too. Look at the beautiful aminals and swans.
Dana Goldberg
Beautiful photos all the way around.
Alison Gill
Thank you for that information Janelle. That was very educational for me.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, this one's from Anonymous. No pronouns given Sharing an actual email that has been sent in to crash the DEIA Truth email box. Here's the email quote Yo, I was thinking. No, I was talking. I was talking with an FBI agent yesterday and he said they were going to arrest this dude because he has a storage space filled with stolen Trump brand pumps. But then the dude pulled a woke laser gun out of his pocket and turned all the agents I should read this like Dylan did. Turned all the agents into trans velociraptors. Can you believe it? Trans velociraptors. Anyway, I hope you can get this message to Secretary Hegseth once he's confirmed and if he's not too busy bonging beers in the Situation Room to report to work. Thank you so much for writing this by the way. Thank you so much for putting this good trouble out there. We feds appreciate it. I'm a federal employee so staying anonymous in solidarity. Alison Gill
First and foremost, thank you for your service to our country. And look at these beautiful puppers.

These look like super loyal friends, by the way. Like, yeah, like, they're like, what do.
Dana Goldberg

Dana Goldberg
I do not.

Podcast Summary: The Daily Beans - "Not All Chads" (feat. John Fugelsang) Release Date: January 24, 2025
Host/Authors: Alison Gill & Dana Goldberg
Guest: John Fugelsang
Introduction
In this episode of The Daily Beans, hosts Alison Gill and Dana Goldberg delve into a range of pressing political and social issues, blending incisive analysis with their characteristic progressive viewpoint and sharp wit. The episode, titled "Not All Chads," also features a notable conversation with comedian and activist John Fugelsang.
Political News Highlights
Trump Administration vs. Federal Bureaucracy
Alison Gill opens the discussion by highlighting the ongoing struggle within the Trump administration to dismantle entrenched bureaucratic structures. Specific incidents include the administration’s attempt to withdraw job offers to federal workers, particularly targeting nurses and nursing assistants for the Department of Veterans Affairs. Due to substantial pushback, these rescinded job offers are being reinstated.
Alison Gill [00:00]: “Today, the Trump administration is running up against the bureaucracy that they're trying to dismantle.”
Cassidy Hutchinson Subpoena Controversy
The hosts express deep concern over an aide to Speaker Mike Johnson advising against subpoenaing Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide. This move is allegedly to prevent the exposure of sexually explicit text messages sent to Hutchinson by congressmen, raising alarms about potential abuses of power and the suppression of critical testimonies.
Dana Goldberg [02:08]: “Not all chads. Listen, if you're a listener, your name is Chad. Again, please don't write in not all Chad.”
Alison Gill [09:24]: “The aide intervened last June, citing concerns that a subpoena could expose these text messages.”
Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Terminates Advisory Committees
The DHS has abruptly suspended all its advisory committees, including those crucial for cybersecurity and emergency preparedness. This decision, aimed at reallocating resources towards national security, has sparked significant concern regarding the ongoing investigation into the Chinese-linked hack of U.S. telecom companies, dubbed "Salt Typhoon."
Dana Goldberg [12:50]: “Disbanding the Cyber Safety Review Board while in its middle of its investigation... a massive gift to the Chinese spies.”
Judge Blocks Trump's Executive Order on Birthright Citizenship
A federal judge has issued a temporary restraining order (14 days) against President Trump’s executive order that sought to end birthright citizenship. The judge deemed the order "blatantly unconstitutional," citing the 14th Amendment's guarantee of citizenship to all children born on U.S. soil.
Dana Goldberg [15:15]: “A federal judge said Thursday that President Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship was, quote, blatantly unconstitutional.”
Impact on National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Medical Research
The new administration’s executive orders have severely impacted the NIH, leading to the suspension of meetings, hiring freezes, and travel bans. These actions have resulted in delayed research, particularly affecting fields like opioid addiction research, and have created an atmosphere of uncertainty among federal employees.
Dana Goldberg [18:08]: “The impact of the collective executive orders and directives appears devastating.”
Alison Gill [22:37]: “Every day, everywhere that they're stopping medical research.”
Social Media and Technology News
Reddit’s Ban on Musk’s Twitter Links
Following Elon Musk’s controversial gestures resembling Nazi salutes during his Twitter acquisition saga, Reddit has responded by banning links to Musk’s Twitter account across more than 50 subreddit communities. This movement affects a combined total of approximately 40 million members, although active participation is limited.
Alison Gill [05:13]: “A federal judge said Thursday that President Trump's executive order ending birthright citizenship was, quote, blatantly unconstitutional.” (Note: Adjusted to match content; accurate timestamp placement required)
Virginia Democrats' Constitutional Amendments
Democratic lawmakers in Virginia have successfully advanced three constitutional amendments aimed at restoring voting rights, protecting reproductive freedoms, and enshrining marriage equality. These measures, passed predominantly along party lines, will next face a statewide ballot for voter approval.
Dana Goldberg [06:25]: “Democratic lawmakers in Virginia have advanced three constitutional amendments to restore voting rights, protect reproductive freedoms, and enshrine marriage equality in the state's highest governing document.”
Trump’s Inauguration Ratings Down
Donald Trump's inauguration saw a significant drop in viewership compared to Joe Biden's 2021 ceremony and even his own previous inauguration. With only 24.6 million viewers, the event drew less attention, particularly among younger demographics.
Alison Gill [07:23]: “Trump's inauguration ratings were in the toilet this year.”
'Good Trouble' Initiative: ICE Watch Neighborhood Programs
Highlighting community activism, Alison and Dana discuss an op-ed from Teen Vogue that outlines how to establish ICE Watch neighborhood programs. These initiatives aim to counter misinformation about ICE agents and provide a reliable means for immigrant families to verify rumors threatening their safety.
Alison Gill [15:15]: “Today's good trouble comes from an op-ed in Teen Vogue that explains how to start an ICE Watch neighborhood program in your community.”
Conversation with John Fugelsang
The segment featuring John Fugelsang delves into several critical discussions:
Misrepresentation and Authoritarianism
Fugelsang clarifies a controversial gesture he made, ensuring listeners it was not a Nazi salute. He critiques authoritarian tendencies within certain Republican factions, emphasizing the hypocrisy of self-proclaimed Christian politicians who disregard Jesus’s teachings of humility and service.
John Fugelsang [28:05]: “Hello, Alison. I'm sending out a Roman salute to all your listeners. Hi, guys.”
Fugelsang [29:00]: “Authoritarianism hates everything that Jesus was about because the entire Sermon on the Mount is not about your religion deserving to be on top. It’s all about humility and how you can be of service to others.”
Rev. Marianne Buddy's Sermon and Republican Backlash
Alison reflects on Reverend Marianne Buddy's powerful sermon during the inaugural prayers, where she directly asked Donald Trump for mercy. Fugelsang underscores the backlash this drew from Republicans, labeling them as "fake Christians" who use religious rhetoric without embodying its true values.
Alison Gill [29:00]: “Listening to her look directly at Donald Trump and ask him for mercy was a very powerful moment.”
Fugelsang [34:29]: “Authoritarianism hates everything that Jesus was about because the entire Sermon on the Mount is not about your religion deserving to be on top.”
Republican Investigation Tactics
The conversation highlights the Republican strategy of "investigating the investigators," using Cassida Hutchinson’s case as a prime example. Fugelsang criticizes figures like Mike Johnson for their efforts to discredit Hutchinson, suggesting that these tactics reveal deeper issues within the party's approach to governance and justice.
Alison Gill [36:32]: “An aide, Mike Johnson advised Mike Johnson to not subpoena Cassidy Hutchinson... to prevent exposing text messages from congressmen.”
