MSW Media. Hello and welcome to the Daily beans for Friday, June 20, 2025. Today, Trump privately approved attack plans for Iran, but has withheld the final order. The State Department is requiring students with visa interviews to make their social media public. A federal judge has blocked Trump from tying state transportation funds to immigration enforcement. Police are investigating a break in at the home of slain Minnesota lawmaker Melissa Hortman. Another one of Elon Musk's rockets has exploded. DHS issues new guidance for lawmaker inspections of detention facilities. Judge Hannah Dugan's trial has been removed from the calendar as the judge considers the motion to dismiss the charges. And the Los Angeles Dodgers refuse entry to ICE officials. I'm Allison Gill.
Dana Goldberg
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Allison Gill
Happy Friday, my friend.
Dana Goldberg
And to you, man. This week has just wiped me out. So if you hear some lethargy in my voice, everyone, don't worry. I know I sound like my Uncle Murray, but I'm just a little sleepy. A little bit sleepy. Little bit of a headache. Yeah.
Allison Gill
Oh, I hope you feel better, my friend.
Dana Goldberg
Thank you.
Allison Gill
It has been a week, that's for sure. And today on Friday, it's Fugal sang Friday on the Daily Bean. So we're gonna have John Fugal sang later. But there's a lot of stuff going.
Dana Goldberg
On and one of them is good news. This makes me happy because I know her. Gina Ortiz Jones is sworn in today as the mayor of San Antonio. And for those of you not familiar, she's the first Asian American female mayor of a major city in Texas. She's also the first openly gay mayor of San Antonio. And she's the first female mayor in Tex. Texas to have ever served in war. That surprised me. Very proud of my dear friend.
Allison Gill
That's so wonderful. Congratulations to, to her. That's incredible. Well, well done, San Antonio.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
Also some good news. A federal judge Thursday blocked Trump from forcing 20 Democratic led states to cooperate with immigration enforcement in order to receive billions of dollars in transportation grant funding. Yeah, we brought that up when the lawsuit hit the docket and they, they have got injunctions. So that's very good. And that will progress, I'm sure. Up, up, up the ladder to the appeals court and then to the Supreme Court. And also a big thanks to Mrs. Detective Pikachu, Esq. For sharing this clip from a Colorado appeals court hearing yesterday on Blue Sky. This could have been three separate.
John Fugel Sang
Okay.
Dana Goldberg
But it wasn't three separate. Let's go with what happened in the case. But honey, or.
Allison Gill
Oh, my God, I'm sorry. I'M sorry, that, that, that. I don't know what to say to that. I apologize.
Dana Goldberg
Okay, go ahead. The, the question here is what happened?
Allison Gill
I'm sorry. I've just been totally thrown by.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, I can imagine. I can imagine. I'm a little thrown by that also, if I'm being honest.
John Fugel Sang
Your honor, I, I don't know what to say.
Allison Gill
It's just a. Okay, well, go ahead.
Dana Goldberg
You've only got a minute and seven seconds left.
John Fugel Sang
The.
Dana Goldberg
The question here. Ooh. Some of you write in when we don't give the proper titles. I can't even imagine the. This guy got for calling a judge honey. Oh.
Allison Gill
And he didn't even know what to. He didn't even have any explanation in the bag. Right. Like, he couldn't have been like, I'm sorry. Usually when I argue, I'm arguing with my wife or something. Anything.
Dana Goldberg
Which would have been hilarious. I mean.
Allison Gill
Oh, Lord. Yeah, Yeah.
Dana Goldberg
I mean, just the misogyny, even if it's unintentional, it just comes over. Such as misogyny. It's just.
Allison Gill
Oh, boy. Oh, he. I've. I've lost my train of thought. I don't know what he was. Well, and the judge is like, go on, you have a minute and seven seconds, sir.
Dana Goldberg
Go on, honey, go.
Allison Gill
Yeah, I would have been like, go ahead, sweetheart.
Dana Goldberg
You know, go ahead, sweetheart. You have a minute and seven seconds.
Allison Gill
Look, sugar mouth the core.
Dana Goldberg
Geez.
Allison Gill
Geez Louise. All right, everybody, we have a lot of news to get to. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right, first up, from the Wall Street Journal. President Trump told senior aides late Tuesday that he approved of attack plans for Iran, but was holding off on giving the final order to see if Tehran would abandon its nuclear program. That's according to three people familiar. Since his private instructions inside the White House situation Room to the military, Trump has disclosed publicly that then an attack is an option. Quote, I have ideas on what to do, but I haven't made a final. I like to make the final decision one second before it's due. Before it's due. Okay. That's what he told reporters on Wednesday. So basically saying, I don't know what I'm going to do minute to minute. Good luck.
Dana Goldberg
Because. Because my pe. The people pulling my strings haven't told me yet.
Allison Gill
Yes. And the Guardian, by the way, reports that Trump suggested to defense officials that. That it would make sense for the US to launch strikes against Iran only if the so called bunker buster bomb was guaranteed to destroy the critical uranium enrichment facility at Fordo. And that's according to people familiar with the deliberations in question.
Dana Goldberg
What possibly go wrong if a bomb destroyed a uranium enrichment facility just into the air? Alison, I'm. Any thoughts? That doesn't seem safe.
Allison Gill
No, it's underground. I don't know if they keep the uranium there. I know the centrifuges are the main.
Dana Goldberg
Target, but even soaking into the. I just.
Allison Gill
It.
Dana Goldberg
Even soaking in the soil anyway, I don't.
Allison Gill
Yeah, I just don't know if that's where they keep the uranium. No, but I do remember a couple days ago, somebody was saying that they thought that Bibi Netanyahu wanted the US to be the ones to deliver the 30,000 pound bomb to the mountain. I can't remember who that was. Oh, wait, here's a clip. And what this seems to be is that, see, like Israel, they don't have the ability to drop £30,000 bunker buster bombs, but the United States does. And so it seems like Bibi Netanyahu is like, hey, do us a favor, you know, go in with, you know, because we moved some B2s close to over there. Ah, so see, this is from the Guardian. Trump was told that dropping the GBU 57, which is a 13 ton, 30,000 pound bomb, would effectively eliminate Fordo. But he doesn't appear to be fully convinced, according to the people familiar, and has held off authorizing strikes as he also awaits the possibility that the threat of the US Involvement would lead Iran to talks. Of course, you could just ask to talk.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, you could do that.
Allison Gill
But the defense officials who received the briefing were told that using conventional bombs like this bunker buster, even as part of a wider strike package of several GBUs would not penetrate deep enough underground, or that it would only do enough damage to collapse the tunnels and bury it under the rubble.
Dana Goldberg
Wow.
Allison Gill
Destroyed. Okay. Mm.
Dana Goldberg
What a mess. I don't like him being in charge of any of this shit.
Allison Gill
No, but. Right, so. So Bibi's been wanting the US to do this for decades.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
And now he's got a president, probably the only president that would ever be amenable to.
Dana Goldberg
And all he's got to do is stroke his ego. All he's got to do is stroke his ego. All right, we are moving on. This one's from CBS the Twin Cities where Democratic Minnesota House Speaker Emeritus Melissa Hortman and her husband were fatally shot Saturday. It was broken into overnight Wednesday. This is what police said. So Melissa Hortman and her husband Mark, they were killed in their home in Brooklyn. Park, Minnesota at about 3:30am We've covered the story in depth. This was Saturday in what Governor Walls called a political assassination. Brooklyn Park Police say the home had been boarded up early Sunday after investigators process all of the evidence at the scene and family members had removed, quote, items of value from the residents on Tuesday and said. This is from the story. It was discovered that the plywood covering the rear window of the home had been pried off and the window broken to gain entry, police said in a statement released Wednesday morning. Police say crime scene investigators searched the home again and family members say they don't believe anything was missing. Police are still searching for that suspect.
Allison Gill
What an.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah. Whoever it is. I, I just, I hate people that take advantage of situations like this.
Allison Gill
I know. I know. Next up from cnn. After a spate of tense encounters involving lawmakers at Immigration and Customs Enforcement facilities, the Department of Homeland Security is asking members of Congress to provide 72 hours of notice before visiting detention centers. That's according to new guidance. So can you give us a 72 hour warning about your surprise inspection?
Dana Goldberg
We can cover up all the legal shit we're doing. Or unconstitutional, inhumane.
Allison Gill
Oh my God. Under the Annual Appropriations act, lawmakers are allowed to enter any DHS facility used to detain or otherwise house aliens. That's in quotes. To inspect them as part of their oversight duties the act outlines. They're not required to provide notice to the int. Or they intent to enter the facility. They're just supposed to be able to go in. This new memo also seeks to differentiate ICE field offices from detention facilities. Yeah. Noting that ICE field offices are not detention facilities and therefore do not fall under the Appropriations act provision. They're also trying to say, like the 10th floor at that federal courthouse in New York where they were housing migrants was not a detention facility.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, give me a break. If you are detaining someone and it's federal, it becomes a detention facility.
Allison Gill
I think. Yeah, they're going to start detaining people in non detention facilities or, or they'll call the detention facility something else.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
Just to get around this law. I hope one of our lawmakers sues.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, I hope so too. This next story is from the Post. And as we fear, the State Department is restarting interviews for student visas and installing stricter social media guidelines, including a requirement that all applicants have their accounts set to public to be scrutinized for hostility toward the United States. That's according to a State Department cable that was sent to embassies and consulates Wednesday and obtained by the Washington Post. The move comes after foreign students visa appointments were suspended last month in what US Officials described as part of a campaign against universities that allegedly fostered anti Semitism and other national security concerns. Well, the Trump administration also singled out Harvard University, as we know, for additional screening visas last month, describing it as a pilot program for wider measures. The new vetting procedures will apply to all foreign nationals who apply for folks visas, which are primarily for academic students, as well as M visas for vocational students and J visas. Those are designed for educational and cultural exchanges. It will. It will also apply to all student visas, regardless of institution of study.
Allison Gill
Good Lord. Well, we saw it coming.
Dana Goldberg
We sure did. This loyalty. I can't. You should be allowed to question your government. It's one of the things we are allowed to do by the First Amendment. We have a right to do, and we should do. Yeah.
Allison Gill
And I remember when DHS posted something on Twitter saying, we will stop all drugs trafficking ideas. Do you remember that? And they took it down. I mean. Yeah. Yeah. You're not gonna Mike Lee this one. That's, by the way, my new term for taking something down that you said that was stupid on social media.
Dana Goldberg
And I love that. These people don't know that. That's like forever. Trust me, I've tried to take down tweets. They're screenshots. It's forever. Yep.
Allison Gill
And there's the archive, too.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
All right, Next up from CNN, U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement agents attempted to enter Dodger Stadium on Thursday but were denied entry to the grounds by the team. That's according to the Dodgers. A post that they put on social media. Quote, this morning, ICE agents came to Dodger Stadium and requested permission to access the parking lots. They were denied entry to the grounds by the organization. Tonight's game will be played as scheduled. That's what the team said on Twitter. According to Los Angeles Times. Agents declined to say why they were at the stadium. But I'll tell you what. A game between the San Diego Padres and the Los Angeles Dodgers, why do you think they were there?
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
I mean, sure, Jan. They refused to say. And. And the news organizations, like, it's unclear what they were doing there. Really? Is it unclear?
Dana Goldberg
Yeah. You're profiling. That's what you were doing. You're racial profiling. Your fans of those two teams is what was happening to the Padres and the.
Allison Gill
The two. You know what? I don't even have to explain it. Everybody understands where I'm coming from.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, man. I saw a video of this thing, and it was crazy. This is for the post. SpaceX's Starship spacecraft exploded ahead of an engine test late Wednesday, sending a large. It was massive, a large fireball into the South Texas sky, dealing another major setback for Elon Musk's company. It was the fourth time, by the way, the company has lost a Starship spacecraft this year. In three previous test flights, the vehicle came apart or detonated during its flight. In a post on social media X, SpaceX said that the explosion on the test stand, which could be seen for miles, happened at about 11pm Central Time. Now, for safety reasons, the company had cleared personnel from around the site and, quote, all personnel are safe and accounted for. That's good, because if they had not, it would have been a disaster. The setback comes as Musk ended his controversial time in Washington leading the U.S. dOGE survey and after a cantankerous rift. Cantankerous rift. It was a cat fight with the President of the United States, who earlier this month threatened to cancel all of the federal contracts held by Musk's company. Now, Musk retaliated by vowing to cut off NASA's access to the company's Dragon spacecraft, which is the only way the space agency can fly its astronauts to the International Space Station. Musk later recanted, but the threat sent shockwaves through NASA and the Pentagon, which also relies on SpaceX for a variety of crucial missions. As a result, US officials reached out to several of SpaceX's competitors, urging them to expedite their efforts so that the government would not have to heavily rely on just one company.
Allison Gill
Why didn't we do that series ago? I don't. We were talking about this, like, years ago on this show. Like, cancel his contracts. I know it takes years to get new ones, but shouldn't you be putting the call out?
Dana Goldberg
You would think so. Honda actually succeeded in a launch and landed test of its prototype reusable rocket on Tuesday, the Japanese company said in a surprise statement, marking a Milestone toward its 2029 goal of achieving a suborbital space flight.
John Fugel Sang
Good.
Allison Gill
Good for Honda. I vote for Honda.
Dana Goldberg
I know I'm Team Honda on this one.
Allison Gill
This explosion was so bad that they couldn't even call it a rapid, unscheduled disassembly.
Dana Goldberg
No, it was so bad.
Allison Gill
They were like, there was an anomaly. Like, they had to. They had to. They couldn't cover it up.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
One of them spiraled out of control. Another one exploded midair. This one exploded on the pad before the booster even went off. It looked like the gas tank, one of the gas tanks just exploded and then ignited the rest of the fuel.
Dana Goldberg
I mean, it was. It looked like an A bomb went off in Texas.
Allison Gill
Dude, I'm telling you, privatizing NASA is a bad idea. Yeah, it's a bad idea when it's. Anyway, I could go on about privatization for like an hour, but we don't have an hour because it's time for good trouble.
Dana Goldberg
What are you guys doing?
Allison Gill
All right. The Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee budget reconciliation bill text which was released on June 11 and updated June 14 actually includes a range of extraordinary giveaways aimed at privatizing public lands and advancing energy dominance at the expense of public lands and resources. This bill, the big billionaire bailout bill, forces the arbitrary sale of at least 2 million acres of Forest service and Bureau of Land management lands in 11 Western states over the next five years. And it gives the secretaries of the interior and agriculture broad discretion to choose which places should be sold off.
Dana Goldberg
Now. Public lands eligible for sale in the bill encompass over 250 million acres, including local recreation areas, wilderness study areas, inventory roadless areas, critical wildlife habitat and big game migration corridors. The bill directs what is likely the largest single sale of national public lands in modern history to help cut taxes for the rich people in this country. It trades ordinary Americans access to outdoor recreation for short term payoff that disproportionately benefits the privileged and well connected.
Allison Gill
And if that weren't bad enough, the bill also mandates oil lease sales in the Arctic refuge and construction of a mining road through a national park while more than doubling the amount of logging in western national forests. There's no question that this is a crisis. Our senators must act now to stop this. So your good trouble mission today, should you choose to accept it, is to use the link in our show notes to contact your senators to oppose the liquidation of our public lands to the ultra wealthy. All right everybody, we'll be right back with John Fugal saying after these messages.
John Fugel Sang
We'll be right back.
Allison Gill

And of course the host of the John Fugal saying show podcast. Please welcome none other than. It would be weird if it wasn't John Fugal saying.
John Fugel Sang
Kind of strange. Yeah, maybe. Maybe better, you know.
Allison Gill
And also the Fugal stack over on Substack, which he's desperately trying not to.
John Fugel Sang
Call it that I'm still not calling. They finally broke me down the join sub stack. And as much as I enjoy liberals calling me a Nazi for it all day, yeah, I'm not calling it the fugal stack. Hello, Dr. Gill, how are you?
Allison Gill
I'm good, sir, thank you. It was quite a week. I was actually just get. You know, I texted you a little bit early with text about a half hour before we jump on here and say what are we going to talk about? And I noticed that the last time we texted was about the Trump Musk feud. And I was like, but wait, that was years ago. No, that was one week ago. So a lot has gone down since then.
John Fugel Sang
A lot has gone down. But for some reason, I'm still not distracted from the fact that the richest man in the world called our president a pedophile. I don't know why nothing's distracting me from that. I know it's supposed to, but hasn't happened yet.
Allison Gill
Yeah, I know, right. But there, there were plenty of bad news stories that happened this week. We had a rough week. Let's start with Minnesota. So we've got. They're arresting judges. And by the way, that trial for Judge Hannah Dugan has been removed from the federal calendar. Instead they're going and they're going to have a hearing on the pre trial motion to dismiss the charges. We don't. Oh, really have a date for that yet.
John Fugel Sang
Already chickening out.
Allison Gill
I know, but big, big shocker. And so we've also had Senator Padilla tackled, handcuffed. We had Lander Lander right here in New York detained and arrested. We've had Huerta held and detained, a union leader.
John Fugel Sang
That's right. For watching a demonstration on the sidewalk.
Allison Gill
And I know I'm leaving a lot out here. Oh, Mayor Ras Baraka and Representative McIver. And now we have the assassination and attempt assassination of two Minnesota lawmakers. And what are your top line thoughts on this escalation of fascism?
John Fugel Sang
Also, please not forget, let's not forget the attempt to kidnap and kill Gretchen Whitmer, the attack on Nancy Pelosi's husband, the Republican who tried to shoot Donald Trump a year ago with the Republican weapon, and the other Trump voter who they called an assassin, even though he never actually tried to kill Trump on a golf course. That was a Trump voter too. This guy literally shot a Democratic lawmaker in front of cops dressed as a cop. Had a list of 70 pro choice and LGBTQ Democrats in his car for his kill list. And they tried to blame it on Tim Walls. That's where it's at right now. That's the level they're like. It's like getting stabbed at the Olive Garden. And you, you blame it on the Applebee's chef. You know who, you know who texted, who tweeted me the other day when I was first texting about this? No less than Dinesh d' Souza.
Allison Gill
Really?
John Fugel Sang
And by the way, I say no less than Dinesh d' Souza in the same sentence all the time because he always manages to be less than, you know, for two decades. Terrorist is like right wing code for Brown guy with a funny name. If this guy had an Arabic name or it ever voted for Bernie Sanders, we'd all be talking about how those cops shot him before he could even surrender. But Dinesh wrote me, and he texted me a picture of all of the no Kings flyers that he said were in this guy's front seat, which meant he had to be a liberal killing liberals. Because all these guys require for their cult is a permission structure if you give a lie they can cling to. I mean, there's millions of Republicans who don't know that Donald Trump admitted Barack Obama was born here in 2016. So just say, oh, he was. He was part of no Kings. And that's how stochastic terrorism works. And by the way, I don't mind Dinesh d' Souza lying to me personally. That's kind of an honor. I mean, that's like Picasso making a doodle just for you. But I mean, like, Republicans are playing dumb about this, like it's all just a coincidence. Like Donald Trump praising and pardoning the January 6th terrorists who beat cops. Pardoning violent extremists like that didn't embolden people. Like saying Democrats are enemies of the state isn't a wink to enemy with romantics like this guy. Yeah. I mean, the irony is the only song Donald Trump hasn't used without permission is We Didn't Start the Fire, and he has. So it really cast a terrible Paul over what was otherwise a rather wonderful and quite hilarious Saturday.
Allison Gill
Yeah. And Mike Lee ran with it as well.
John Fugel Sang
Mike Lee ran with it because Mike Lee believes in nothing but Mike Lee's own power. And he's got that hive mind. I mean, you know, my big issue is the media pretending these people are Christian. And what. I'll bear false witness. Go ahead, please.
Allison Gill
What I thought was interesting was that, you know, a lot of people were like, well, Utah is full of Mormon cultists. I'm like, yeah, but look, Mormons are really nice.
John Fugel Sang
Peter Romney doesn't talk like that.
Allison Gill
Yeah, and I don't think they're going to stand for that. And then, lo and behold, the. The paper of record in. In. In Utah condemned what Mike Lee did. So I'm glad that they did, you know, credit.
John Fugel Sang
What a coward, too. He finally took him down, but never apologized and he never no grace. Because having being a man to these people is weakness. Being a good person, having empathy, having love is weakness. That is the level of cult we're up against. And thank God, as I've always said, the. The stupid is greater than the evil with these people.
Allison Gill
It's the, it's the Roy Cohn method, right? Yeah. Never apologize, never admit wrongdoing. Double down on your bullshit and move forward and attack.
John Fugel Sang
And yet somehow I get the impression that Pete Hegseth spent his entire weekend on his knees apologizing to Donald Trump profusely for ruining his daddy didn't hug me enough parade on Saturday.
Allison Gill
Oh man. Yeah. A couple of new stories coming out from I think a Wolf, Mike Wolf. Is that the name of the biographer?
John Fugel Sang
The longtime Michael Wolf has probably published seven books on this in the last four days. Yes.
Allison Gill
And I guess he did a podcast on the Daily Beast with the Daily Beast and, and said that, yeah, he had a phone call with Hegseth and quote, reamed him out for his parade. For the parade because they were convivial and not menacing.
John Fugel Sang
Yes. And because the soldiers were shuffling by not looking at him and not marching in lockstep goose step unison. Which man baby would have wanted.
Allison Gill
Which by the way, they should have. Let's be, you know, I mean that's how normally we see a, a military parade. Thinking back to 1990 something. 1991.
John Fugel Sang
Yeah.
Allison Gill
Even Norman Schwarzkopf was marching in, in time.
John Fugel Sang
So what do you make of this? Because everyone I've talked to in the service all week has said the army has weighed in on how they felt experience with his, you know, look at me, I'm not compensating for anything parade. I mean, he's forcing active duty soldiers to walk past a half empty bleacher in 95 degree heat so the 79 year old racist can hijack the army's birthday to have a taxpayer funded ego orgy. I so appreciate our army for not marching in unison and having better things to do than practice it.
Allison Gill
I'm with my good friend and veteran Charlotte Clymer on that one. I think that it was a Protestant.
John Fugel Sang
It was great. It was so, I mean you could hear the tank squeaking. It was like, it was like an arthritic Roomba, you know, I mean like I have seen more excitement at a, at a CBS opening than this. And, and, and you can know he was angry because then he went on, on Truth Social or as I call it, angry grandpa's diaper bag and just let loose with the angriest rant and accused Democratic lawmaker. Let radical left Democrats hate our country. They want to destroy it. Inner city's like, this is hours after these people were shot in their homes. I mean, yeah, this guy, like this guy yells fire in a crowded theater after he sets the fire and Then he blames the usher and. And how nice to have a front row seat for the beginning of the MAGA civil war as well. Between the deportations going on and MAGA realizing that Donald Trump is going to protect the job creators who don't want to have their undocumented workforce expelled.
Allison Gill
Oh, and Iran.
John Fugel Sang
And then Iran. And seeing Tucker Carlson. Tucker. Oh, it's. I should. It should be more painful. But seeing Tucker Carlson show journalists. How to interview a Republican. He did it. Tucker showed everyone how you should interview all politicians.
Allison Gill
Yeah, yeah, agree.
John Fugel Sang
It was great. I mean, this is. And again, look. But scary to agree with Tucker. But this is world war. What the fuck? I mean, Allison, the Republicans have done it. They finally found a president dumber and more dangerous than George W. Bush.
Allison Gill
I thought it was kind of a well known fact, sort of among everyone that There were no WMDs and they were looking for an excuse to go into Iraq and that we weren't going to do this again. Iran Contra go. We can go all the way back to Reagan on this.
John Fugel Sang
I'd love to.
Allison Gill
And, and continuing further back and further back. I thought, I thought it was.
John Fugel Sang
Let's go back to the 1950s when they had a democratically elected president in Iran. And it was. Let me check my notes. Yes. Us, the United States and the CIA who staged a coup in their country to install the Hitler Shah. And that's why they hated us.
Allison Gill
I thought everybody took over. Sorry. About toppling Saddam Hussein because he was a buffer zone in the Middle east and then got creative.
John Fugel Sang
Let's go back to us, US arming both sides of the Iran Iraq war. Why would they hate us, Allison? We were arming both sides and then.
Allison Gill
We armed Afghanistan against the Russians. And then we went into Afghanistan and I thought we learned from that bit too.
John Fugel Sang
But yeah, the religious kooks running Iran are because of us overthrowing their democracy. And it's so incoherent. Trump is keeping it going. I mean, are we at war or are we not at war? Are we working with Israel or is this just Israel doing on its own? He keeps changing the story. This is like Schrodinger's foreign policy.
Allison Gill
Now it's two weeks and he said he left the G7 to deal with this, but actually he was kind of laughed out of the room.
John Fugel Sang
He was laughed out of the room. Mark Carney just showed him up. But I mean, yeah, this is not about freedom. This is not about security. It's not about the safety of these Israeli people. This is about power and ego and Two indicted criminal leaders doing anything they can to stay in power and keep out of prison. That's it. So they're going to throw a match into a region that's already soaking in jet fuel. And you know, Alison, if only. If only a previous president had, I don't know, put together a nuclear deal with multiple nations to make sure that Iran couldn't develop a nuclear weapon. And our own Pentagon kept insisting Iran was complying by the deal. All of this is happening because of American foreign policy in the past, specifically Eisenhower and Trump.
Allison Gill
Yeah. And then something else this week. We have the oligarchs on the Supreme Court twisting themselves into a logical pretzel.
John Fugel Sang
Amazing.
Allison Gill
In order to uphold the banning of transgender care for minors. Not by saying, hey, we aren't being discriminatory against transgender people. Oh, no, we're just saying that anyone with dysphoria, gender dysphoria, and etc. That, that. That's what we're talking about here. It was just the most idiotic. And then Thomas's concurrence, and then Alito chiming in and saying, oh, no, I know it is discriminatory and I don't care. I mean, it. It was such a backwards ruling and very, very devastating to, to trans people in the United States and. And globally.
John Fugel Sang
They waited till Pride Month to do it. You know, this Supreme Court has been waiting a long time to have a chance to beat up on transgender children. And I think you learn a lot about how seriously Americans take the words freedom and liberty by checking how they feel transgender tax paying citizens should be allowed to live. And you also learn how seriously they oppose big government when they have no problems with said government coming in between individual citizens privately and their doctors. And they're not even subtle anymore. I mean, states can still prescribe puberty blockers and hormones as long as it's to force a child to stay the gender they were assigned at birth. So you can medically manipulate a child's hormones, just not in a way that affirms their identity, only if it conforms them. What they said essentially was, we're not batting gender affirming care. We're just making it illegal to affirm gender. All right, like, what the. Like, like, we're not. We didn't ban food. We just banned eating for hungry people. We only banned insulin for diabetics who need it for diabetes. And, you know, this is where we're at. You can't get an abortion, can't get gender affirming care. You can't teach black History. You can't protest ice. You can't protest Netanyahu can't get due process. But hey, if you're a corporation trying to curry favor by banning Juneteenth as a company holiday, you might get a tax break this year. And this is where it's at. They are beating up on. And this is what America's always done. This is who we really are. Our entire history is the white majority. And this is a human thing, not just an America thing. But which marginalized group can we beat up on and feel righteous about it? This decade, obviously to African Americans, indigenous people, Chinese immigrants, Italians. Then they did it to the Irish. Then they did it to Jewish refugees. When I was a kid, they were doing it to feminists and gay people and women who wanted abort. And now in this century, we've seen them do it to Muslims, we've seen them do it to undocumented migrants, and we've seen them doing it to transgender children. Every generation finds a minority to beat up on and feel like it's the moral thing to do, and they're always wrong. All the Supreme Court did was write themselves into the wrong side of history yet again.
Allison Gill
Again. Right. I mean, the high court's been doing this since its inception. And then we had a whole big war, and then there was Reconstruction, and then they've been trying to. To deconstruct Reconstruction since then.
John Fugel Sang
That's it. And why? Because we didn't take care of the Confederates. We didn't put this thing to bed. Democrats just did. I mean, sorry, liberals. It's always liberals. It was Republicans back then. It's Democrats now. Liberals being such nice people, really want to move on. So, yeah, no one's gonna have to. We. We won't. We won't come down too hard for, for treason and slavery. We won't. I mean, everybody walked for Iran Contra. Pelosi and Schumer couldn't wait in 2006 to say, no one's going to be penalized for lying us into war in Iraq. God bless Merrick Garland. But, you know, we, we Mueller, we let. Well, Mueller. I mean, Mueller gift wrapped 10 counts of obstruction. Democrats could have added that to either of their impeachments, and they just didn't.
Allison Gill
Well, here's the thing. Here's the thing that, you know, I've been seeing kind of recently that a lot of leaders are waiting to see what the public does before they jump in on a side.
John Fugel Sang
So they're not. They're not leaders.
Allison Gill
Yeah. And I saw this a Lot in the Mueller stuff afterwards, I was hoping that the leaders would say, we have to impeach on this. This is bad. Look at this. Obstruction of justice to get everybody to follow their calling. And now they. But. But they didn't. They said things literally like, it's only about 45% public approval for impeachment on the Mueller obstruction. We really need to get above 50 or 55% before. Think about it. And now we have the no Kings marches.
John Fugel Sang
But then. But, Alan, then they impeached him anyway. And they had those 10 counts of obstruction lying around that they could have added to the Ukraine impeachment. They could have done it. They had it right there. I don't think these people are leaders. They're representatives. We are the leaders.
Allison Gill
Yes.
John Fugel Sang
If we wait for politicians to lead, it'll never happen.
Allison Gill
And that's what I'm seeing after no Kings. Oh, there's a lot of really angry people. I didn't realize. And so I don't know. I just. I wish that. But it's like backwards from corporate media. Corporate media should report on the narrative, not create it. And leaders should lead the narrative, not follow it. And we're doing the opposite in both cases. You're right, and it's extremely frustrating. But we do have some good things that happened this week. I know a bishop archbishop in Los Angeles and statements from the Catholic Church against Trump's mass deportation and immigration policy. The Catholic Church is forcibly pushing back on this.
John Fugel Sang
The Catholic Church always does. The Catholic Church, look, I'll trash him all day, but when it comes to a few things, like health care, the death penalty, treatment of migrants, the Catholic Church is right on it like a bonnet all the time. And, you know, Francis was great on this as well. I mean, the Bible is very, very explicit on this. The Bible is not ambiguous about this. The God of the Hebrew scriptures commands you to welcome the stranger and treat him as one of your own all over the place. Jesus in Matthew 25 says, how you treat the stranger is how you treat him. And individuals and nations will be judged, heaven or hell, by how you welcome the stranger. So I may have said this on your show before, but when I'm talking to these people, I just say, all right, so why should I listen to you and Donald Trump and reject God and Jesus? It's not saying that we shouldn't have restrictions on who gets to come into the country. Of course it's the criminalization of migrants that makes it so ugly. It's exactly what Hitler did. You're taking this Powerless minority. You're turning them into criminals. When it's legal, if you're standing on our soil, you're allowed to claim asylum. But as you know, illegals is a racist term. I will give 100 that I carry in my wallet to anybody who can show me footage of Fox News ever calling a white lawbreaker an illegal. Donald Trump stole from Americans with his fraud university and had to pay 26 million in fines. He's banned from running a charity. He's an adjudicated rapist and 34 times convicted felon. Ask your Republican loved ones to call Donald Trump an illegal and see how they respond. That's a word for brown people. Call them Christian refugees, folks. That pisses off the racists.
Allison Gill
Yeah, maybe you can call them on a new Trump phone. So we. Oh then yes, we've got tariffs against all the parts to make competitive phones. And then we release a phone here under Trump's name that's made in China that I'm sure is waived from tariffs for.
John Fugel Sang
Yes, yes. I love when men who can't operate umbrellas launch smartphone companies. Isn't that great? It's like Android for your lowest IQ relative. I mean, just so you know, Donald Trump thought this product was so special, he let Eric announce it. Okay, just, just keep that for, for the low price of $499 plus your dignity, you can get a Chinese manufactured phone made in the USA someday according to the freight. Oh, and a family of Freightos Trump mobile runs on at&t Verizon or T Mobile because Trump doesn't own infrastructure, he owns branding rights. It's just a whole new Trump pyramid scheme just with like only one bar. And they're selling it as designed and built in America, but it's a Chinese manufactured clone of the 7 Pro 5G. The only American part I think is the box it comes in. So, you know, great. Give Donald Trump your GPS location on all your passwords, please, because you're obviously too dumb for a burner phone.
Allison Gill
Oh, man.
John Fugel Sang
Well, I love it. He's never going to run out of ways to have the separation of rubes and money. Like, like I always say, there's not. What's the Trump Presidential Library going to be? It's going to be the Trump Presidential Library and Casino. He'll be dead and still taking these rednecks money away from them.
Allison Gill
You probably have to opt out of a subscription to get a new phone sent to you every month and be billed.
John Fugel Sang
Oh my. Yeah, yeah. I mean, hey, that. When we can finally convince our right Wing relatives that billionaires are their enemies, not their friends. And the immigrants haven't done anything to them. We might see change, but until then, we, we gotta. We got a nation of zombie racists. So thank God Donald Trump is doing all he can do to get the resistance organized.
Allison Gill
Yeah, well, there's that. I appreciate you as always, my friend. And if you want more of John Felixang, which everyone does all the time, you can get it.
John Fugel Sang
Thank you.
Allison Gill
Sirius XM progress channel 127 weeknights, 9:00pm Eastern, 6 Pacific for tell me everything or you can listen to the John Fegelsong show podcast. Any final thoughts, my friend?
John Fugel Sang
Listen, I'm just thrilled to be on your show. You guys, you just, you, you and your audience has helped keep me sane. For me, it's like, look what we've seen this week. I'm ready to see more Democrats do what my friend Simon Moya Smith calls put your body in the movement. Remember a few months ago when Elon and the Incel clown posse were raiding the treasury and we saw 400 Democrats outside and one skinny ginger security guard and wouldn't let them in. And I was like, democrats, push past this guy. Take a punch. Well, what have we seen this week? Senator Padilla, who is a household name now, and Brad Lander, who's having a field day in ranked choice voting, by the way, this week.
Allison Gill
Right?
John Fugel Sang
They did it. They put their bodies in the movement. They let themselves get roughed up on camera. That's what people need to see. We need to see that these men are willing to fight nothing against Chuck Schumer, but I don't need more committees to decide if there should be a petition to decide if there should be an angry letter. Get in there and be part of the movement and let people be inspired because the Democrats who are going to raise all the funds are going to be the ones who promise accountability and the rule of law coming back. We need to see it. We need to see leadership.
Allison Gill
Thank you so much. Thank you 100%. Yeah. And we need some new rules also. That have teeth. That have teeth.
John Fugel Sang
Tell me about it.
Allison Gill
Very important part of that. Thank you so much, my friend. And we will see you next Friday.
John Fugel Sang
Peace.
Allison Gill
Thank you, everybody. Stick around. We'll be right back with the good news. Everybody, welcome back. It's time for the good news. Who likes good news, everyone? Then good news, everyone. Good news. Good news. And if you have any good news, confessions, corrections. If you have a shout out to a loved one, a small business in your area, a self shout out. Those are so important. Seriously, get on the computer right now and tell us all the cool things about you. If you want to tell us your dissertation or theses titles, we would love to hear those as well. Also, shout outs to government programs. Whether it's a federal government program like the Affordable Care act subsidies or a state government program like Medi Cal, we don't want Gavin Newsom to cap that $2,000 thing. I've been I've been calling the offices of my legislature like nonstop about that or a city or county. I know the San Diego County Cal vet resources are pretty amazing. So any great VA healthcare you've received is also awesome. And any student debt relief, we want to hear about that because that changed a lot of lives. You can send it all to us@dailybeanspod.com Click on Contact and all you got to do to get your submission read on the air is to pay your podbet tariff, which means attach a photo of your pet if you I just by the way got three DNA panels run on my rescue kitties and so we'll be doing a guessing game on on My Very Special Pets as soon as I get those results in. And actually we should do it before I get the results in and we can try to guess. But if you don't have a pet, you can send an adoptable pet in your area. If you don't have that, any animal photo off the Internet will do. We'll do bird watching, which can be an actual bird, or you and your family and friends flipping the bird to Trump and Musk Properties. And of course baby pictures, awkward family photos, photos of your happy place. Just send us a photo and we will read your submission. And that's Dailybeanspot.com click on contact and a reminder to Patreon and Super Cast subscribers. Your happy hour link will be sent to you at noon Pacific today. That's 3pm Eastern because we have a happy hour tonight at 7pm Eastern, 4 Pacific time. So check your junk mail because sometimes it ends up in there because MSW Media is such a cool domain name, I guess that people think we're junk. All right, first up from Lynn Pronoun. She and her hello ladies. Canadian here. Love your show. Closely following us goings on since Yam Tits announced he would run again. So excited. This time last year when he was close to prison. Damn how far we've come. Anywho, I saw this on Blue sky and thought it was a good idea when you see the masked Ice Stoppo like Gestapo. But for Ice have bags of glitter that you can throw on them. Glitter is a to get rid of, especially to explain to your family why you're covered in it. Are you at a strip club tonight? No. Somebody at a protest? Yeah, sure.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Allison Gill
Seriously, Monsters, Lynn says, and I love this because you'll be able to see that glitter on them for days and you'll know they're. I caveat. This could be considered battery on a federal agent. Only do this if you're prepared for the possible consequences. Maybe throw it up on yourself and hope it blows over on them.
Dana Goldberg
There you go.
Allison Gill
Like you're celebrating something. But I would not recommend throwing it, like, right at their face or anything like that.
Dana Goldberg
I like that idea of walking by and just being like, over yourself. Just I'm protecting myself from. Oh, you got it all over your uniform. I'm sorry.
Allison Gill
Oh, that's too bad. Yeah. Make sure they're downwind and throw away. Just be careful because again, this could be considered battery. You know, spitting on them is assault. So.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah. All right. Our next one's from Anonymous. Pronoun she and her dear delightful darlings. I guess this isn't good news or good trouble, but a crowdsourcing request. The interview with Molly Zhongfast hit me particularly hard. As one who literally had a mastectomy this week, I just returned home from the hospital Wednesday. Molly's topic is so important and I'm so glad you had her on. However, it was the wrong moment for me and I had to stop listening. Do you or your amazing listeners have recommendations for stories about people who get cancer but don't die? My tax, my for my pod pet tax, I've included a picture that I took Wednesday of the babies of the babiest bunny in my yard. My garden is very healing for me, so I was so glad to see this little fellow dandelion leaves for scale. But if that doesn't help, the bunny is about the size of a baseball, sending you so much love and joy and gratitude for the work that you do.
Allison Gill
Ah, yes. Oh, look at this bunny. Anonymous Laura Packard's story is pretty great. And also listeners, if you're a cancer survivor, send in your stories for Anonymous.
Dana Goldberg
I think we have a lot of listeners that have in the past too, so hopefully you get to soak some of those in.
Allison Gill
And I totally get why you had to stop listening to that interview, Anonymous. And I appreciate. I'm so like, my heart is full that you know and honor yourself that way by stopping. Do you know what I mean?
Dana Goldberg
I do. It's really good to know ourselves.
Allison Gill
It really is, and so thank you for that note. Anonymous Next up from Abby Pronouns she and her hi, AG and dg. I'm writing to shout out my mom. I love mom shout outs. She was the one who convinced me to start listening to the Daily Beans back in March. At that time, I was completely ignoring the news to the best of my ability because it just sent me into a spiral of fear, sadness and paralysis every time I learned something new. She said that you guys somehow made it feel like we could make it through, even on the worst news days, and she was right. Now we are constantly referring to things we heard on the Beans and doing good trouble together, and it's honestly made a huge difference to feel like I'm part of a community of people who are all horrified by what we're seeing around us and are fighting back against it in whatever way we can. My mom doesn't just have great taste in podcasts, though. She's also just a kickass, wonderful person. Her whole life, she's made time to actually go out there and live her values. Protesting, marching, volunteering, and donating while also raising three kids and working a job with long and never ending hours. A job that is now exponentially more stressful because of Trump and Doge cutting grant funding and threatening their international employees and collaborators. She has such a huge heart with love in it, not just for me and the rest of my family, but also for her community, for immigrants, for LGBTQ people, foster dogs, and just for everyone. She is a dedicated Catholic who truly lives the commandment of loving thy neighbor as thyself. I am so lucky to have her and I try every day to emulate her, even if I fall short most of the time. I've been wanting to write this for a while now, but just the other day our family's dog Wally passed away. Suddenly. She's devastated, as is everyone in the family, by the loss of our big boy, the goofiest, cuddliest giant with so much personality and a penchant for stealing food off tables and counters without leaving any signs besides a suspiciously shiny bowl. Her ability to care for her animals and process her own deep grief while also selflessly supporting everyone else around her is just remarkable to watch. And I know Wally got the absolute best life for the eight years he was with us because of her. Because she's probably listening to this too. Mom, I love you so much and you're my good news every day. Oh my goodness. For my pod pet tax, I'm attaching some Photos of Wally, a foster fail. Came home for just a bit and never left. An all around good boy. He loves sweets, giant plush toys, getting chased, the compost bin. Sitting with his back legs on a piece of furniture. And his family and we loved him. Thank you again for all you do. This submission Abby made my day so sweet. Look at that big goofy boy.
Dana Goldberg
I know this pop. Gorgeous both of them. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Yes. Hi to you and your mom. All right. This one's from Rebecca Pronoun. She and her hello. My hometown of just under 20,000 is a red city in a red county in a purple state. On Saturday they estimated 850 people came out for the new Kings protest. That's just about 4.25%. That equals hope to me. Thank you for keeping us all uninformed. Insane. My puppet tariff is paid by Gracie Biscuit the white dog lounging around. And Gunny the brown dog looking dapper. And Evie the cat being her fabulous self.
Allison Gill
Oh my gosh. Is the cat in charge of both of these dogs?
Dana Goldberg
Oh my God. Look at that. That is a big foofy cat. That's a big cat.
Allison Gill
I want to pet the belly. I wonder if it's a trap.
Dana Goldberg
Oh no. I don't think that cat has a whole lot of energy to get mad at anybody. That is a big sleepy cat, Rebecca.
Allison Gill
Thanks. All right, our final submission of the week is from anonymous Pronoun she and her hello beans queens. I'm one of the 80,000 Minnesotans who went to the Capitol on June 14 for no kings despite and maybe because of the news of the assassination of Melissa and Mark Hortman. It was a beautiful and natural reaction to gathering community to support each other. The children of the Hortman's issued their statement which every person should hear. The Hortman children emphasize the legacy that their parents will leave behind. They say our parents touched so many lives and they leave behind an incredible legacy of dedication to their community that will live on in us, their friends, their colleagues and co workers and every single person who knew and loved them. The Hortman's asked that people do an act of kindness in memory of their parents commitment to service sharing. A list of suggestions. Here's a quote. The best way to honor our parents memory is to do something whether big or small to make our community just a little better for someone else. They suggested planting a tree, telling a dad joke and baking something to share. Quote bread for Mark or a cake for Melissa. Pet a dog was on the list. A golden retriever is ideal, but any will do. Content Warning the Hortman's family dog, the golden retriever named Gilbert, was euthanized after he was injured in the shooting. Hortman originally trained him as a service dog before he became a permanent member of the family. Sophie and Colin Hortman ended the statement with a call to action. Hope and resilience are the enemy of fear. Our parents live their lives with immense dedication to their fellow humans. This tragedy must become a moment for us to come together. Hold your loved ones a little closer, love your neighbors, treat each other with kindness and respect. So this morning I baked some cookies, pet several dogs when I dropped mine off at doggy daycare and tonight I will attend a vigil for the Hortmans at the Kent Capitol. Here are some photos. My husband in Chicago at Trump Tower giving the bird and our group at the march to the no Kings rally.
Dana Goldberg
Oh man, this is beautiful and heartbreaking and not to shift into light this the joy on your husband's face of flipping off Trump Tower really was the palate cleanser we needed. Thank you Anonymous for this.
Allison Gill
Yes, thank you Anonymous and really, the Hortman Space Children's statement is kind of my final thoughts for the week.
Dana Goldberg
I think so too. It should be.
Allison Gill
And I think we should leave it there. Thank you all for sending your good news into us. Please send us all of it. More. We want more M O A r More. Send it to us@dailyailybeanspod.com and click on contact. I'll be back in your ears on Monday, Dan. I believe you're traveling Sunday.
Dana Goldberg
I am as of right now. Yep.
Allison Gill
Awesome. Well, I will see you all on Monday and I will see patrons tonight at the happy hour Zoom Call. That's Again, it's at 7:00pm Eastern.
