Dana Goldberg
And I'm Dana Goldberg.
Alison Gill
Hey, Dana. Happy Wednesday.
Dana Goldberg
Happy Wednesday to you. I want to start the episode off with a little good news, just because I love when worlds collide. After we read Gigi's story yesterday about her son that is over in Ukraine and featuring Project Victory, a brilliant comedian, actress friend of mine sent me a message and thanked us because it's her sister. And I'm just like, the world is just so beautifully small. And so it was one of those moments where it was. It was just such a beautiful moment. So I know a lot of people, sometimes when they hear us talk about organizations or we read the good news, they're like, how do we know if they're real organizations? Have they been vetted? We vet them. Our producers vet them. And so just know that if we ever talk about something on the show, it's. It's worth looking into. Anyway, it was just a beautiful moment in my. In my heart. So they wanted me to say thank you to you as well, ag for featuring specifically Project Victory in Ukraine to help support over there, if we can. But I just wanted to pass that on.
Alison Gill
How amazing. What an incredible group of listeners.
Dana Goldberg
We do that. And their familia. I didn't want to say her name because she didn't write in, so. But I'll just say she is a brilliantly funny comedian and actress.
Alison Gill
Amazing. That's so cool.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Alison Gill
Thank you for that little bit of good news.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, we got to start off with some. We should do that. We should have, like, the tiniest bit of good news at the top and then the. And then all of it on the. Like, we should. Should bookend with just a good news story and then keep on going to the show.
Alison Gill
Yeah, just. We should do a little sandwich, you know, there you go. Like normally, we have some more good news to report on today with Rudy.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, yeah. Bless his heart. Bless his heart in the Southern way.
Alison Gill
Very much so. And we normally report on Rudy over on cleanup on aisle 45. But we recorded today's episode of cleanup on aisle 45 Monday, and the Rudy news broke on Tuesday. So we're going to cover it here. And speaking of cleanup on aisle 45, you may have heard if you're a patron over there and got the show early or now if you're a public listener to clean up on aisle 45 and have listened to the show today that Pete Struck is leaving cleanup on aisle 45. He has some very important work that he needs to do that we can't really talk about. But it's not because he doesn't like us. So he's very sad that he has to leave. But I also announced on the show on cleanup today that an incredible friend and hero, national hero and, you know, former law enforcement somebody who was there on January 6th, somebody who testified before the January 6th committee, will be taking over the co hosting duties on cleanup on aisle 45. And that is former Capitol Police officer.
Dana Goldberg
Harry Dunn, our gentle giant.
Alison Gill
I know he gives the best hugs and he's going to be a great co host.
Dana Goldberg
Good man. Yeah, he is.
Alison Gill
And I'm really looking forward to that. And I'm also, you know, kind of looking forward to reporting on these side cases, you know, like Bannon and Rudy and you know, all the stuff going on with the fraudulent electors and Arizona and Michigan and Fulton County. I'm really interested to hear about it from his perspective from someone who was there. So anyway, I'm looking forward to that. So, but I will miss Pete. So if you want, you can listen to Pete's last public episode today. It's called cleanup on aisle 45. And we will miss Pete and his swearing jacket. Also today, President elect Donald Trump is going to talking about slapping tariffs on imported goods. And Dana, you're going to have that story for us a little bit later in the show. So with that, it's time for the news. Let's hit the hot notes. Hot notes. All right. First up from Adam Reese at NBC, an angry Rudy Giuliani lashed out in court Tuesday at the judge presiding over the collection proceeding for the $146 million defamation judgment against him. And he complained that he's having a hard time making ends meet. Speaking after U.S. district Judge Lewis Lyman said the former personal lawyer told Donald Trump, excuse me, the former personal lawyer to Donald Trump, had not been complying with court orders to surrender his assets to the receivership of Ruby Freeman and Shay Moss. Giuliani snapped, the implications you are making against me are wrong. I have no car, no credit card, no cash. Everything I have is tied up. They've put stop orders on my business accounts and I can't pay my bills. Bummer, the judge said. Giuliani, he's like, you don't appear to be indigent, and then warmed him against further outbursts. The hearing in federal court in New York was held in part in response to allegations from attorneys for Ruby Freeman and Shamos. Those are the former Georgia election workers that Giuliani defamed, you know, while challenging the 2020 election results. The lawyers for Freeman and Moss have said that Giuliani, former federal prosecutor, has not complied with court orders to turn over his assets. Giuliani's new attorney, Joseph Camerata, the other ones quit. Both of his attorneys were like, peace out, you're weird. But his new attorney, Joe Camerota, said the former New York City mayor had turned over one of his assets, the 1980 Mercedes Benz SL500 that used to belong to Hollywood icon Lauren Bacall. Aaron Nathan, an attorney for Freeman and Moss, said Giuliani surrendered the car but not the title. Now, the judge said the title must be turned over. Quote, a car without a title is meaningless. That's what the judge said. Judge Lyman, questioning why Giuliani hadn't been able to get a new title, quote, your client is a competent person. He was the U.S. attorney in the District. The notion that he can't apply for a title certificate, the judge told Camerata before Giuliani cut him off and started his rant. I did apply for it, he barked at the judge, shaking his head. What am I supposed to do, make it up myself? Your implication is that I've not been diligent about this is totally incorrect. And he continued before complaining about his financial woes. Attorneys for the election workers have said they have similar paperwork issues with Giuliani's co op apartment in Manhattan. While the receivers have gotten access to the apartment, which is estimated to be worth over $5 million, Giuliani still has not delivered the keys, stock or proprietary lease. They said that in a court filing. The filing said he has turned over the majority of his luxury watch collection, but not all of it, as he was ordered to do last month. Mr. Giuliani has delivered 18 watches in one diamond ring to the address provided by the receivers, the filing said but still has nine more watches he's supposed to hand over in court. Nathan says his clients want to move forward and collect what's theirs, but have had to endure delay after delay with multiple extensions. While Giuliani has failed to comply with court orders, refusing to turn over cash from his bank account and sports memorabilia, including a signed Joe DiMaggio jersey. Camerata said he is appealing the judge's turnover order and asked the judge to extend some deadlines given that he has just signed on to the case after Giuliani's previous attorneys withdrew for undisclosed reasons. Yeah, Lyman rejected that request from the bench. He said you can't restart the clock by firing one counsel and hiring another. He's already received multiple extensions and missed multiple deadlines, the judge said, warning that Giuliani could face sanctions and potential incarceration if he doesn't comply with these orders. A trial is scheduled for January 16th on two outstanding issues related to the judgment. First, whether Giuliani must surrender his Florida home and his four World Series rings, which his son Andrew says were given to him as gifts years ago. Giuliani listed the rings as his property in a bankruptcy case this year. Camerota asked the judge to push the trial back to a later date so Giuliani could attend events related to Trump's inauguration. Giuliani, he said, regularly consults with Trump and, quote, has a political right to be there. I'm sorry, Dana, do we have a political right to be at an inauguration?
Dana Goldberg
No.
Alison Gill
No, I don't think so. The judge refused the request from the bench, saying Giuliani's social calendar wasn't a reason to delay. After court, Giuliani suggested the trial is unnecessary because Lyman is, quote, going to rule against me. If you were sitting in the courtroom and couldn't figure that out, you're stupid. He said, wow, he's just, just.
Dana Goldberg
He's big mad. He's big bad.
Alison Gill
Yeah, Big mates. Got his big feelings with him today, quote. His background is serious, left wing Democrat Rudy said, while acknowledging that Trump had nominated the judge to the bench. Still, Giuliani maintained that the judge is about as left wing as you get. Raymond Moss filed suit against Giuliani after he repeatedly falsely accused them of committing election fraud. We know all that. The state officials at the time said the pair had done nothing wrong. Giuliani continued accusing the mother and daughter of fraud, even after a lengthy state investigation cleared them, too. Last year, a jury awarded them $148 million in damages, which Lyman reduced to $146 million. So asked if he regretted Def Freeman and Moss, Giuliani said, I don't regret it for a minute. I regret the persecution I've been put through. And Dana, he made some comments on the courthouse steps. Listen to this.
C
Reality is I have no cash. It's all tied up. So right now if I wanted to call a taxi cab, I can't do it. I don't have a credit card, I don't have a checking account. I have no place I can go take cash out except the little bit that I saved and it's getting down to almost nothing. I have a business, I can do business expenses, but I'm very careful about that because God forbid I should make a mistake between a personal and a business expense. Unlike Hunter Biden, I go to jail right away.
Alison Gill
Boo fucking who?
Dana Goldberg
You should po.
Alison Gill
What? Sure we put, we added the music, by the way, our producers added.
Dana Goldberg
I.
Alison Gill
Think someone should just always follow him around with a little piano or a tuba or something.
Dana Goldberg
Smallest violin on planet. Thanks so much AG for that story. This is from Zeke Miller at the Associated Press. Well, President elect Donald Trump on Tuesday he reached a required agreement with President Joe Biden's White House to allow his transition staff to coordinate with the existing federal workforce before taking office on January 20. The congressionally mandated agreement allows transition aides to work with federal agencies and access non public information and gives a green light to government workers to talk to the transition team. But Trump has declined to sign a separate agreement with the General Services Administration that would have given his team access to secure government offices and email accounts. Secure is the key word there, in part because it would require the President elect limit his contributions to $5,000 and reveal who is donating to his transition effort. Yep. Now the White House agreement was supposed to have been signed on October 1st. That's according to Presidential Transition act and the Biden White House had issued both public and private appeals for Trump's team to sign on there.
Alison Gill
Was only two months late.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, just two months late. The agreement is a critical step in ensuring an orderly transfer of power at noon on Inauguration Day and lays the groundwork for the White House and government agencies to begin to share details on ongoing programs, operations and threats. It limits the risk that Trump team, the Trump team could find itself taking control of massive federal government without briefings and documents from the ongoing administration. It also puts the entire fucking country at risk because everyone is watching this. As part of the agreement with the White House, Trump's team will have the publicly have to publicly disclose its ethics plan for the transition operation and make a commitment to uphold it. Key words there. The White House, this is what from the White House said transition aides must sign statements that they have no financial positions that could pose a conflict of interest before they receive access to non public federal information. And when you're the president elect and you are in debt to, to the point of billions of dollars to foreign countries, perhaps maybe you are actually a threat and you're at risk for, I don't know, blackmail. Now, Biden himself raised the agreement with Trump when they met in the oval office on November 13th. That's according to the White House. And Trump indicated that his team was working to get it signed.
Alison Gill
Working to get it signed.
Dana Goldberg
I guess it's really hard to put a piece of paper in front of that guy and have him put a signature on it these days. Trump Chief of Staff designate that Susie Wiles, she met with Biden Chief of Staff Jeff Zients at the White House on November 19 and other senior officials in part to discuss remaining holdups. While lawyers for the two sides have spoken more than a half a dozen times in recent days to finalize the agreement. Without the signed agreement, Biden administration officials were restricting re restricted in what they could actually share with incoming teams. Trump national security adviser designate Rep. Mike Waltz met recently with Biden's national security adviser Jake Sullivan. But the ongoing term, excuse me, the ongoing team was limited in what it could even talk about because they haven't signed the fucking piece of paper. Now Trump's transition team says it would disclose its donors to the public and would not take foreign donations, but they.
Alison Gill
Wouldn'T sign the paper that says that.
Dana Goldberg
So a separate agreement with the Department of Justice to coordinate background checks for vetting and security clearances is still being actively worked on and could be signed quickly. Now that the White House agreement is signed, the agency has term has teams of investigators standing by to process clearances for Trump aides and advisors once that document is signed, and it appears to me obviously on a much lesser evil level, Trump is still trying to interrupt.
Alison Gill
The transfer of power the his own, his own White House.
Dana Goldberg
Correct.
Alison Gill
And if, I'm sorry, NBC sounds a little too, I don't know, hopeful that, that he'll sign for the DOJ background investigations into, into incoming advisors. I don't think he's going to sign that. I really.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah, because what, I mean, what are the consequences? Honestly? What's going to happen?
Alison Gill
Nothing. Like I've said this to everybody, like everything ends up at the Supreme Court. Everything will end up at this Supreme Court, the one that made him a king and got him off of his cases. So, like, I mean, Garland could come in and indict him for not signing transition paperwork, but you can't indict a sitting president. And the president elect counts in that arena, According to the DoJ's interpretation of the OLC member. But even if he came in and indicted him, Trump would file to dismiss it and the Supreme Court would dismiss it. There's nothing anybody can do. You know what I mean? Like, I do, yeah, it all ends up at the Supreme Court. So I mean, I appreciate people who are like, do these things, do these things, but they will all be undone, you know. All right. Next up from abc, President Joe Biden on Tuesday celebrated the acceptance of a ceasefire deal brokered between the United States, excuse me, brokered by the United States to end the devastating conflict between Israel and the Lebanese militant group Hezbollah after more than a year of fighting. Biden in remarks delivered from the White House Rose Garden, said he had just spoken to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Lebanon's caretaker Prime Minister Najib Makati. Under the deal reached today. This is a quote from Biden. Effective at 4:00am tomorrow local time, the fighting across the Lebanese Israeli border will end. It will end. This is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities, biden said. Biden said over the next 60 days, Israel will gradually withdraw its forces and Lebanon's military will deploy to take control of their territory. Hezbollah has said, he said will not be allowed to rebuild infrastructure or threaten the security of Israel. Quote, we're determined this conflict will not be just another cycle of violence, he said. And so the United States, with the full support of France and our other allies, has pledged to work with Israel and Lebanon to assure that this arrangement is fully implemented. Israel's Netanyahu on Tuesday officially recommended the country's security cabinet agree to the ceasefire deal. The cabinet approved the proposal by a majority of 10 ministers to one in a video address. Netanyahu said he was doing so now for several reasons. So Israel can focus on the threat posed by Iran to give the military time to rest and refill its stockpile and to isolate Hamas. Netanyahu said how long the ceasefire would last will depend on what happens in Lebanon. He warned that any violation of the agreement will be met with forceful response from Israeli forces. Biden, too, said if Hezbollah or any other entity broke the terms of and ended up threatening Israel that Israel a quote, retains the right to self defense. Switching gears to Gaza Biden said Palestinians also deserved an end to the fighting that's plagued the Strip since Hamas's terror attack on Israel on October 7th of 2023. Quote, Far too many civilians in Gaza have suffered far too much, and Hamas has refused for months and months to negotiate in good faith for a ceasefire and a hostage deal, Biden said. And so now Hamas has a choice to make. Their only way out is to release the hostages, including American citizens, which they hold. In the process, bring an end to the fighting, which would make possible a surge for humanitarian relief, unquote. Asked by a reporter if he think he would get a ceasefire in Gaza before leaving office, Biden replied, I think so. I hope so. I'm praying.
Dana Goldberg
He's a good man. I'm going to miss him. All right, this one is from Zoe Richards at NBC. President elect Donald Trump said Monday that his incoming administration would slap new tariffs on imported goods from Mexico, Canada, China, solidifying a key campaign promise that could have a major impact on trade. Trump said in a post on Truth Social he plans to impose a 25% tariff on products imported from Mexico and Canada, framing the proposal as a response to the ongoing fentanyl crisis, which is bullshit. And I quote, On January 20th, as one of my many first executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States and its ridiculous open borders. That's what Trump wrote. He said this tariff will remain in effect until such time as drugs, in particular fentanyl and all other illegal aliens stop this invasion of our country. End quote. I am using his words. Trump said that he would also to impose additional tariffs on China. Said, I have had many talks with China about the massive amounts of drugs, in particular fentanyl, being sent into the United States, but to no avail. That's what Trump wrote. Until such time as they stop, we will be charging China an additional 10% tariff above any additional tariffs on all their many products coming into the United States of America, many of which I use in my own websites. I'm that I added that. But most of them are coming from China. Quote, all these prove. Excuse me. All these prove that the idea of China knowingly allowing fentanyl precursors to flow into the United States runs completely counter to the facts and reality. That's Lou. That's what Lou said. Okay. Canadian officials stressed the close relationship between Canada and the U.S. and said that they would discuss trade and border security with the incoming Trump administration. Quote, canada places the highest priority on border security and the integrity of our shared border. This is from Deputy Prime Minister Christia Freeland and Public Safety Minister Dominique Leblanc said in a joint statement. They said our relationship today is balanced and mutually beneficial, particularly for American workers. Again, our relationship today now. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Tuesday sent a letter to Trump in response to his tariff plan saying, quote, migration and drug consumption in the United States cannot be addressed through threats or tariffs. What is needed is cooperation and mutual understanding to tackle these significant challenges. Sheinbaum wrote. This is according to a translation provided by the Mexican Embassy. And she went on to say, for every tariff, there will be a response in kind until we put at risk our shared enterprises. Basically, she's like, you do this, we're going to retaliate. Shymart said the tariffs were bound to jeopardize US Companies with plants that are in Mexico, including General Motors and Ford. Mexico and Canada are the United States top two trading partners. That's according to nearly 30, accounting for nearly 30% of trade volumes. The vehicle manufacturing industry, dairy, paper products and building supplies such as wood are just some of the products that would face disruptions. The U.S. china's largest export market, already imposes a number of tariffs on Chinese goods. In addition to maintaining most of the tariffs Trump introduced in his first term this year, Biden increased the tariff rate on $18 billion in Chinese products such as electric vehicles, the tariff on which has quadrupled from 25% to 100%. Economists and retail trade groups estimate the tariffs on goods flowing into the US could cost Americans $78 billion annually. For example, a $50 pair of shoes could cost almost $65. That's a $15 increase. According to the National Retail Federation, the cost of a $2,000 mattress could rise by about $190. That's almost 10% there. Retail chain Five Below, online outlet Wayfair and Dollar Tree are some of the most vulnerable stores in the trade war. That's according to CNBC's analysis. So we've already talked about this. They don't think the trade, you know, the tariffs are going to hurt American consumers. They are. I just got information from my tax person. If he does what he says he's going to do, even on just a 10% tax, it could actually increase a household's expenses by $1,500. And if he goes hard against China, it could actually increase each household as little as $1,900. That's the minimum. Like this is going to affect real people. And he knows this. It's just going to give a big ass fucking tax break to the 1%.
Alison Gill
Yeah. That's his goal, right? Is to make sure that all of our tax dollars that we pay federally for federal income tax, that they cut all the programs that we pay for that we need, but they allow for tax breaks for his rich friends. So that's where our money's going to go, basically, to pay for tax breaks for his rich friends and to probably have to cover these tariffs. We will be doing that ourselves. So wonderful. It's going to be, you know that those illustrations and things that show how the wealth gap in this country, it's going to. It's going to explode. It's already exploded, but it's going to explode even more over the next four years. All right, everybody, we have some good news we have to get to, but we have to take a quick break. So everybody stick around. We'll be right back after these messages.
Dana Goldberg
We'll be right back.
Alison Gill

Dana Goldberg
Yes.
Alison Gill
And speaking, speaking of babies, if you don't have any animal photos, you can just send your baby photos.
Dana Goldberg
Yes, please.
Alison Gill
And send them all to us. Dailybeanspod.com click on Contact. And then also, you know, if you don't have a piece of good news right now, you can just give somebody a shout out. Somebody that you love or somebody that's in your life doing amazing things, maybe in your community doing community organizing or a self shout out. We love those as well. Maybe a small business in your area that needs a boost, you can give them a shout out and then of course shout outs to government programs that have helped you or a loved one or somebody that you know. Whether it's Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, Affordable Care act, which is Obamacare. I hate to break it to the magas who are really mad that they're about to lose their Affordable Care act, but we're glad that Obamacare was on the chopping block. Student debt forgiveness. I send those to the White House. They read them and they love them. So if you have a student debt forgiveness story, send that to us as well. And any other government program, like if you've gotten great healthcare at a VA facility, for example, send that to us again. Dailybeanspod.com click on contact. That's how you do it. Okay, let's start with Joan. No pronouns given. Greetings, fair ladies. I'm a longtime listener and member but infrequent contributor. I was moved to action when listening to my other regular daily trusted news source, Heather Cox Richardson.
Dana Goldberg
She is amazing.
Alison Gill
Incredible. Yeah. Rather than pronouncing doge with a hard J like jerk, Heather Cox Richardson has taken to pronouncing it dogie or doggy when she reads her Stub substack newsletter. I love that reinterpretation and thought you might take it up and create a trend. Thank you for keeping me sane and grounded. That's funny. They. They love to mispronounce Kamala's name on purpose, but they hate it when you do it to them. So oh, yes, they do. Let's call it the doggy.
Dana Goldberg
Doggy. All right, doggy. They're doggy. All right. This is from Anonymous. Pronoun she and her Regarding the good news pictures from Anonymous of her newly adopted cats Joe and Samwise the kitties steal the show. But I had to say what cozy quilts they were lounging on the rainbow Batik one is really lovely. Thanks to you both for what you do and the listeners who submit their good news. I live in a small town in very red part of Texas. The Christian nationalism is strong here. It helps to know that y'all are out there. My pod pet tax is Tucker. He was a neurotic mama's boy who liked to chew on tiny twigs and licked rocks. You know when you get a dog that is wonderful and then get a second dog that is wonderful in less obvious ways, that was Tucker. This picture always makes me smile. I hope it makes you smile too.
Alison Gill
Lick rocks. Sounds like something I would say to like Rudy. You know what? Lick rocks.
Dana Goldberg
Tucker looks like he's about to eat these flowers.
Alison Gill
That quilt is really beautiful. Anonymous. Thanks for saying nice things about other anonymous listeners submitting their good news.
Dana Goldberg
That's I like it.
Alison Gill
I like it. Beautiful quilt and Tucker is gorgeous with the daffodils. It's lovely. Thank you so much. All right, next up from Tim he him. This is a shout out to my wife Harriet. 29 years ago, over a Thanksgiving weekend, I boarded a flight from Los Angeles to New York City to take care of some personal business as part of a recovery program I was part of. At the time, Harriet invited me to stay over the Thanksgiving weekend. A small miscommunication left us to our own devices. By the end of the weekend, I knew I had to spend the rest of my life with the love of my life. Plans happened and here I am 29 years later, still with her. Happy anniversary of our first Face to Face meeting after writing to each other for the prior two years via a BBS network. I will love you to the moon and back even though you say I love you more. Also, you hang up first. No, you hang up first.
Dana Goldberg
Right.
Alison Gill
Also, 11 years ago, we purchased our house thanks to the Veterans Administration home loan program. It was an interesting experience as the home we found was a foreclosure owned by the fha. If you ever wanted to see bureaucracy in action, take two government agencies and mix together from offer to closure. It took five months. The deal could have fallen apart at any time. But now we have our forever home for our pod Pet tax. I share our clowder of three black cats. Sephi, pure black. Morpheus, large white puff on his chest spot, and Dana, the white locket and the elder of. And she's also the elder of the clan. Oh, look at the void.
Dana Goldberg
And she's beautiful, I must add. Very wise. Beautiful eyes, a nice coat of fur.
Alison Gill
She's Dana's very most beautiful cat. Awesome.
Dana Goldberg
Thank you. This one's her anniversary. Oh, sorry G. I didn't mean cut off the happy anniversary, that's for sure. All right, this one's from Marilyn Pronoun. She and her small business shout out to lit on Fire Books in Peoria, Illinois. As listed on their website, this well curated store of new and used books is a woman, disabled and LGBTQ plus owned since 2015. I first encountered the store when they assembled an astounding collection of used books on colorful shelves in an art studio. The business has grown into a beautiful store with open mic nights for the community. If you're not in the area, you can shop online. Oh, this is good. People stop buying Amazon or the big bookstores. You can shop online@bookshop.org Shop Litton Fire. Lit on Fire. Which is a brilliant double. Yeah, meaning on there. Lit on Fire. Okay, Support this place. We'll have that link in the show notes. Support this place, which so importantly is supporting and fighting for marginalized communities here in Central Illinois. Odd pet tax. Lady Sansa and House Bark invaded the bed of Sanibel.
Alison Gill
Oh, Lady Sansa of House Bark. I get it.
Dana Goldberg
Lady Sansa of House Bark invaded the bed of Sanibel.
Alison Gill
Oh, look.
Dana Goldberg
Yes, you did.
Alison Gill
So cute. All right. So lit on Fire Books. I love it.
Dana Goldberg
I love that.
Alison Gill
Next up from Sean. Pronouns he and him. My good news today is my son. He turned 14 recently. He's in the eighth grade and he's looking at what he wants to do for high school. He's wicked smart. He picks up new concepts and ideas quickly. He read a book on the human immune system a few years ago that was aimed at non expert adults like me and then held a conversation with a neighbor who happens to be an immunologist about what he read. But the thing about my kid that always impresses me is his fierce and unwavering sense of fairness and his inability to let go of perceived injustices. Sean, your kid and me have that in common. It always drives him sometimes to our annoyance, same. I annoyed people with that quite a bit too. But secretly I love this so much about him. We have worked to give him a solid moral compass, but his sense of what is right has always been strong. He realized that he could vote in the next presidential election and that excited him. I suspect it's going to be a rocky four years, but I'll look forward to watching our son grow into the amazing young man I know he will become. For my pod that tax, I present my cat, Miri. Miri was rescued by kayak from a sandbar in Missouri, rehabbed, and then flown to her new home here in Atlanta. Wow. Her rescuer, another person who is fierce in her sense of justice, specifically wanted my son to be Miri's ultimate landing spot because she thought such a sweet cat needed a boy who would really appreciate her. Thank you ladies for keeping us sane. Your work is so valuable to me and many others. Look at this sweet kitty.
Dana Goldberg
Oh sweet baby.
Alison Gill
Thank you Sean. And shout out to the kid. 14 years old, 8th grade. Woohoo.
Dana Goldberg
Woohoo. All right, this is from Susan Pronoun. She and her hi Queens of the beans. Thank you for all you do to keep us informed with the facts and what is actually happening in these heartbreaking and chaotic days. I just saw the headline that Jack Smith was filing to drop the January 6th charges against the Orange elect and I thought if that isn't reason for a little good news, I don't know what is. I figured everyone could use some My daughter graduated from law school in May of this year. We're all so proud of her. What excited me the most was seeing the graduates filing in that day. There were so many women, women of all races and age. It gave me such a feeling of joy and hope to see the diversity and determination of these strong, smart women. The class was 55% women. Yes, my daughter earned her degree while working full time with a toddler and with her wife having breast cancer during COVID and colorectal cancer this year, even though even through these tough times, these two women worked so hard to make it to the law degree. My daughter's wife was instrumental in taking care of my daughter as she studied, stressed out and gave moral support through the whole thing, even though she herself was fighting cancer. She is now cancer free.
Alison Gill
Oh my God. That's so good to hear.
Dana Goldberg
Yes it is. The last week of July was the bar exam and my daughter passed the first time through. Woohoo. She had to wait until October for her score and she was quite nervous but she passed. We celebrated big time. We're so proud of her. My pod pet is a rescue Archie. He's the brindle. He's about 2.5 years old now, but is still very much a puppy. He loves zoomies, shredding anything he can find, going on walks, and annoying his sister. May. We did a DNA test, so I'm sending the results so you can guess his breed and see how close you are.
Alison Gill
Okay.
Dana Goldberg
He's a kitty.
Alison Gill
He's a pity. Daffy.
Dana Goldberg
And let's throw in chow. Because, you know, Chow.
Alison Gill
Let's throw in chow. Chow. And maybe a lab. Maybe a German shepherd and you said lab.
Dana Goldberg
Yeah.
Alison Gill
All right, let's see. Let's see what we got.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, my God. The other one's cute, too.
Alison Gill
Look, dude. Pit bull stash. Chow. Chow. German Shepherd. Lab.
Dana Goldberg
Ignore the. And five more breeds. Allison and I just got 1, 2, 3, 4. Five breeds that were listed correct. We're. This is the last podcast. We had a good run, everyone.
Alison Gill
Thanks for listening. We gotta hang it up.
Dana Goldberg
And that's it. We're retiring. It's been fun.
Alison Gill
We never get it. All right.
Dana Goldberg
Oh, my God, Archie is so cute. And 100 good boy.
Alison Gill
100 good boy. Oh, what a cool dog. That's an awesome coat he's got, too.
Dana Goldberg
It really is gorgeous.
Alison Gill
Oh, my God. I can't believe we got five for five.
Dana Goldberg
I'm actually pretty shocked.
Alison Gill
That never happens. Wow. Yeah, you're right. Thanks, everybody, for listening to the beans. It's been a good run, and, you know, we should.
Dana Goldberg
We can't do any better than that. Do you all understand that we've been doing this for two years, four years, I don't know, 18 years.
Alison Gill
We've peaked. Yeah, this is it. But it's all downhill from here because.
Dana Goldberg
We got five dogs, and I'm like, I don't know. A rabbit? Is that a rabbit, like, mixed with a poodle? Who knows?
Alison Gill
Oh, man, that's fun. Now we're not going anywhere. We'll still be here. We'll be back in your ears tomorrow and for the foreseeable future.
Dana Goldberg
And we got a refried. A refried tomorrow. No, no, no. Yeah, a refried tomorrow. No, this is airings. Yeah, because this is airing as they're listening to it. Oh, no, you're right. Tomorrow's Wednesday, right?
Alison Gill
So you get a show on, what, on Thursday? Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dana Goldberg
Sorry, I felt like a little stroke.
Alison Gill
But we got the dogs, right? We don't know what day it is. That's how.
Dana Goldberg
And this is why, because you're about to ask me. This is my last day. Just wait. Not permanently, but until October. Not October. I am having a baby stroke till December 8, so I won't be here tomorrow. And then I have my last work, travel, work gig out of the country. And so Ag is going to cover me, but I know you're about to ask for him. So my final thoughts are just gratitude. Like, things are awful, awful right now in the world. The impending doom we're feeling is real, and I think it's justified. And I don't think we're overreacting. But my God, I woke up every day and I've got breath in my lungs and food on the table, and I get to walk outside, and sometimes in the sunshine and sometimes in the rain, but I can walk outside and do that. And I'm grateful. I'm grateful for all of the listeners, for the people who write in telling us how important Ag and I are to them every day, and for the messages on social media and for the gifts you want to send us. Like, it's. You're taking time out of your day to show appreciation. It's just such a beautiful thing. And so I just want to leave you all and listen, I know there's some mixed feelings about the holiday, specifically Thanksgiving, and where it originated in this country, and there's a lot to be, you know, desired when it comes to our history. But I just look at this as a day of gratitude. And I've always called it this. This is my Thursday of gratitude. And I have friends and family, and I love it because it's not commercialized. You know, it's not all about gifts, and it's just really being thankful. So I hope that you all, with your friends or your family or your family, if you still love and get along with them, just have a really beautiful holiday. I will miss you all, But I definitely will be thinking about how grateful I am for this community and for you, Allison, for bringing me into the family.
Alison Gill
Absolutely. I'm very grateful for you, too, my friend. And I just wanted to. For my final thoughts for today, I just wanted to tell everybody who's a new listener. We have so many wonderful new listeners. You need to go back and Listen to the January 6, 2021 episode of the Daily Beans called Charismatic Megaplastics. It's kind of like on 6th or the 5th. Is it the 5th?
Dana Goldberg
The day before? The day before? The day before January 5th.
Alison Gill
It's. It's kind of like your. It's like your induction into the. Yeah, it really is Illuminati. And then also, I just had some really quick little break in good news I wanted to share with. With everyone. In California's 13th district, Democrat Adam Gray just overtook John Duarte with Merced County's update now leads by 105 votes. Let's hang on to that. Let's get that seat. Yes.
Dana Goldberg
So when you're like, oh, I'm in California, my vote doesn't matter. Yes, it fucking does.
Alison Gill
Does. Oh, that drives me crazy. We would if everybody in California voted. He wouldn't have won the popular vote.
Dana Goldberg
Nope.
Alison Gill
You know, it was only like a million and a half or two. Smallest margin. Smallest margin. Unlike small margins you've ever seen. But anyway. Yep, I'll be back in your ears tomorrow. I'll hold down the fort. Dana, you travel safe and thank you everybody. Until tomorrow. You check out the latest episode of cleanup on L45. Last one with Pete. I'm gonna miss Pete so much. But I'll be back in your ears on the Beans tomorrow. Until then, please take care of yourselves, take care of each other, take care of the planet, take care of your mental health and take care of your family.
Dana Goldberg
I've been AG and I've been tg.
Alison Gill
And them's the Beans.

Hosted by Alison Gill and Dana Goldberg
In the episode titled "Rudy Is Big Mad," hosts Alison Gill and Dana Goldberg delve into a range of pressing political and social issues with their characteristic blend of progressive insight and biting snark. The episode covers significant developments involving Donald Trump’s transition agreement, Tulsi Gabbard’s PAC activities, trade policies under the incoming Trump administration, President-elect Biden's efforts to broker a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, and the latest antics of Rudy Giuliani in court.

Notable Quote:
"It was just such a beautiful moment in my heart." ([02:13])
The hosts transition to the main topic, focusing on Rudy Giuliani's recent courtroom appearance. Alison Gill reports on Giuliani's outburst in federal court regarding his $146 million defamation judgment. Giuliani vehemently denies financial distress, claiming all his assets are tied up and protests the court's implication of his indigence.
Notable Quotes:
"The implications you are making against me are wrong. I have no car, no credit card, no cash." – Rudy Giuliani ([08:45])
"A car without a title is meaningless." – Judge Lewis Lyman ([09:00])
Giuliani's frustration is palpable as he accuses the court of misunderstanding his financial situation and expresses disdain for the judge’s rulings. His new attorney, Joseph Camerata, attempts to mitigate the situation by explaining Giuliani's delayed compliance due to a recent change in legal representation, but the judge remains unsympathetic.
The legal battle centers around Giuliani's failure to fully comply with court orders, including the transfer of assets like a luxury Mercedes Benz and several high-value watches. The judge warns Giuliani of potential sanctions and even incarceration if he continues to disregard the court's directives.
Notable Quote:
"Reality is I have no cash. It's all tied up... Unlike Hunter Biden, I go to jail right away." – Rudy Giuliani ([10:29])
Alison Gill shifts focus to President-elect Donald Trump’s recent actions regarding the transition of power. Trump has signed an agreement with the Biden administration allowing his transition team to coordinate with federal agencies. However, he has declined to sign a separate agreement with the General Services Administration, which would have provided access to secure government offices and email accounts—a move that would also enforce limits on campaign contributions and require donor transparency.
Notable Quotes:
"On January 20th, as one of my many first executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States." – Donald Trump ([13:00])
Alison criticizes Trump’s reluctance to fully comply, suggesting that his actions pose risks to national security and the orderly transfer of power. She expresses skepticism about the likelihood of Trump signing the remaining necessary agreements, highlighting the potential for legal battles that may ultimately end up before the Supreme Court.
Notable Quote:
"Everything ends up at the Supreme Court. So, I mean, I appreciate people who are like, do these things, but they will all be undone, you know." – Alison Gill ([15:41])
Alison Gill and Dana Goldberg report on President Joe Biden’s successful brokering of a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah after over a year of conflict. Delivered from the White House Rose Garden, Biden outlines the terms of the agreement, which includes a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces and the deployment of the Lebanese military to ensure Hezbollah does not regain the ability to threaten Israeli security.
Notable Quote:
"We're determined this conflict will not be just another cycle of violence." – President Joe Biden ([19:02])
Biden emphasizes the United States' commitment to supporting the implementation of the ceasefire, with assurances that any violations will prompt a strong response from Israeli forces. He also addresses the ongoing conflict in Gaza, urging Hamas to release hostages and cease hostilities to allow for humanitarian aid.
Dana Goldberg provides an in-depth analysis of Trump’s proposed tariffs on imported goods from Mexico, Canada, and China. Framing these tariffs as a response to the fentanyl crisis and illegal immigration, Trump plans to impose a 25% tariff on products from Mexico and Canada and an additional 10% on Chinese imports.
Notable Quotes:
"I have no place I can go take cash out except the little bit that I saved and it's getting down to almost nothing." – Rudy Giuliani ([10:29])
"On January 20th, as one of my many first executive orders, I will sign all necessary documents to charge Mexico and Canada a 25% tariff on all products coming into the United States." – Donald Trump ([13:00])
Alison and Dana critique the economic impact of these tariffs, highlighting potential annual costs to American consumers estimated at $78 billion. They argue that the tariffs will disproportionately affect middle and lower-income households while primarily benefiting the wealthiest 1%, exacerbating the existing wealth gap.
Notable Quote:
"If he does what he says he's going to do, even on just a 10% tax, it could actually increase a household's expenses by $1,500." – Dana Goldberg ([23:49])
