Amid all of the chaos of the Trump administration, including the opening of the Obama Presidential center in Chicago, both Barack and Michelle spoke. And so it's always Incredible to hear what they have to say. Here's an excerpt from the First Lady's speech.
C
And to ignore the simple truth, to refuse to respect the contributions and experiences of people who aren't exactly like us, y'. All, puts us all at risk. Failing to see the humanity in all people puts us all on a slippery slope. And once that slide starts, there's no telling where it stops. A dangerous precedent that flies in the very face of our faith and of the founding promise of this democracy. That all of us, all of us, are created equal. That each of us is a child of God with inerrant value. And no one, and I mean no one, has the right to sit in judgment of who's American enough. And that's why, folks, we simply don't have the luxury or time to be cynical or complacent, to wring our hands in despair, to wait for someone else to fix the problem, y'. All. Hope is all we have, because hope is the essential spark that lights the fire of change. But hope is a choice. Whether or not we use our voices to speak up is a choice. Voting is a choice. Being a decent human being is a choice. Believing that we still hold the power to build a country that reflects us all is a choice. The Obama Presidential center is a living testament to the power of choice, y'.
D
All.
B
Being decent is indeed a choice. Hope is indeed a choice. And it's. It's. These are choices we have to make anew every day, right? It's not just something you decide one day 10 years ago and hope that it still hangs on, especially amidst everything that we're seeing happening right now. Now, here's a bit of the President's speech.
E
A declaration that we are all created equal, endowed by our Creator with certain unalienable rights, and that in the newly independent United States, there will be no kings or lords, no serfs or subjects, but only citizens. Each of us free to pursue our own version of happiness and able to determine our collective fate through an elected representative government. It had not been done.
B
I love that he's carrying the no kings message. It's so, so important. No kings, no serfs, no tyrants. But it wasn't just the Obamas that spoke today. Mayor Mamdani spoke at the Knicks parade. And no lie. It's one of the best political sports speeches, if that makes sense, that I have ever seen. Throngs of New Yorkers turned out for this. This parade. Too many to handle, in fact. They had to start turning people away because the response was so massive. But here's a bit of that speech.
F
For 53 long years we have watched the Knicks and we have waited. We waited as the memory of Willis Reed winning the championship on one leg grew fainter and fainter. We waited as Clyde came up clutch again and again. As John Starks dunked on Jordan and Patrick Ewing dunked on the Pacers. As Bernard King scored 60. As Charles Oakley pulled every rebound within reach. As Spike got in Reggie Miller's face. As Alan Houston put up a shot against Miami that hung in the air for an eternity. As Larry Johnson gave us the four point play heard around New York. As Starbury traded threes with Kobe and then sold sneakers every kid could afford. As Nate Robinson stuffed Yao Ming. As the city came alive watching Linsanity and as Melo lived every Brooklyn dreams when he came home and made MSG feel like the center of the universe once again. We waited without ever knowing if this day would come. And we waited because we knew deep down in our six suffering hearts that it would. New York City, this team has done it. The New York Knicks are NBA champions. We are here not just because of this team. Team that will go down in New York City. Legend. I'm talking about guys like Ronaldo Bachman, Marty Collins, Raymond Felton, Marcus camby, Kristaps Porzingis, J.R. smith, Iman Shumpert and the whole Knicks tape era. I'm talking about guys like Tony Douglas who I watched tie the single game franchise record for threes from the stands in 2011. I'm talking about Amari who got this whole city fired up when he joined. And I'm talking about Jarrett Jeffries and Lance Thomas and Langston Galloway, players who gave everything every game, even when a 20 win season was all that was in sight. This championship belongs to them too. Because championships aren't just built in one season. It belongs to Emmanuel Quickley, RJ Barrett, Dante DiVincenzo, Julius Randle. And also to a coach who helped lay the groundwork, Tom Thibodeau. Thanks to each of these New Yorkers and too many others to name. New York City has just had two of the most magical months in as long as any of us can remember.
B
Dude knows his stuff. He knows his Knicks history. Absolutely incredible. It's a wonderful celebration. So how's it going back in D.C. well, remember. Remember when they dumped peroxide into the reflecting swamp to clean up the algae because they didn't realize that painting the bottom of it a dark color would create more heat and cause an algae bloom the likes of which have Never been seen. Well, apparently dumping peroxide into the reflecting swamp is stripping the $14 million no bid contract paint job off the bottom of the pool. Look at this.
D
There's a nice big chunk of the reflecting pool. Yeah. Oh, it is blue. How about that big chunk of it for you? Three days ago, I was able to start right in front of $18 million well spent.
B
Looks about as good as the Iran deal, doesn't it? Just what a immense waste of money. Everything that he does is just. It's just incompetence from. From top to bottom. So with that, I'm going to leave you with the moxie moment of the day. It's for women who like to swear.
G
Girls, listen up. If you're swearing all the time, it's a major turn off and it's a massive red flag. Guys don't actually like it. You might think it's cool. Guys don'. Guys just think it's not feminine at all.
F
What if.
A
And just hear me out for a second.
F
You shut up.
H
I just need you to shut the up. Cause nobody asked you. I need you to shut the up. Shut the up. Just shut the up. Shut the up. Shut the up. Shut the up. Shut the up. Shut the Upper bounce bow. Shut the up. Shut the up,
B
everybody. That's from Unexpectedly Fun on Instagram. Thank you, sir. All right, patrons, I'll see you in Chicago. Dana and I will be back on Monday. I'm Allison Gill, and thanks for watching Beans Talk.
