Today on the Daily Scoop Podcast from the Scoop News Group, Snowflake scores the latest federal one Gov deal for AI and data cloud products and auditors find big problems with SBA's information security program. It's Thursday, May 21, 2026. Welcome to the Daily Scoop Podcast where you hear the latest news and trends facing government leaders. I'm the host of the Daily Scoop Podcast, Billy Mitchell. Thanks so much for joining me. And now let's dive into the day's top headlines. Artificial intelligence and cloud based data products through Snowflake will now be available at discounts to all federal agencies, the General Services Administration announced Thursday morning. GSA struck a one Gov deal with the cloud based data warehousing and analytics company in order to empower federal workers to break down data silos, enhance mission effectiveness and accelerate their IT modernization initiatives, it said in a press release. Snowflake CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy said in a statement, quote, federal agencies are seeking efficiency in cost, enterprise scaled performance, intuitive design driven tools for the workforce and simplicity in contracting before going on to say that Snowflake is the only multi cloud data platform that can meet that change on day one. Just over a year old, OneGov is a government contracting framework allowing for cross agency use of commercial products at a discounted price. For Snowflake users across the federal government, this means 20% off compute services, which could go up to 50% as usage increases, as well as nearly a 20% discount on storage, the release said. GSA Administrator Ed Force said the administration has already seen promising early projects from agencies using One Gov and its AI tools. Other AI tools from OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity are already available to agencies. Force said in the release that with stronger cross agency data capabilities, the federal government can accelerate AI tools tailored to each agency's mission. Overall, GSA claims one gov has saved the government $1.1 billion in its first year. The agency added that it's currently extending agreements, expanding access to services and laying the groundwork for more scalable AI infrastructure across agencies. The Snowflake agreement will be available until September 30, 2027. And now moving on to other news, the Small Business Administration's Information Security program is largely ineffective after falling below the federal baseline for controls in nine of 10 domains, according to a new watchdog report under Office of Management and Budget Guidance on Ratings for Security Effective controls. The SBA has defined policies, but it has not consistently implemented them, the agency's Office of the Inspector General wrote, relaying findings from an independent auditor's review of SBA's fiscal 2025 performance under the federal Information Security Modernization act, or FISMA. SBA surpassed OMB's baseline for incident response, earning an optimized rating under federal FSMA guidelines. But the OIG said that six domains cybersecurity Supply Chain Risk Management, Risk and Asset Management, Configuration Management, Identity and Access Management, Contingency Planning and Information Security Continuous Monitoring were considered only defined, which comes with a rating of 2 on the 5 level maturity model scale. Another three domains, cybersecurity governance, Data Protection and Privacy and Security Training, were slightly better per the Watchdog, with ratings of consistently implemented, which is three out of five on that scale. Some of SBA's IT shortcomings, though, appear to be due to poor planning. The OIG noted that the agency couldn't consistently follow some cybersecurity procedures because its governance risk and compliance system was canceled by program officials without a replacement. Other issues festered due to lack of communication on cybersecurity supply chain risk management. For example, internal procedures did not explicitly state what evidence should be provided or how the review should be documented, leading to incomplete reviews of third party systems, according to the report.
