The conference finals have started, but right now Rose wants to talk about off campus. This is the Hockey Show.
Rose
Oh yeah.
Roy Bellamy
With David Druck of the Hockey News at home because he's stuffy. Ethan and Rose is in the studio with me. This is the Hockey Show. I'm Roy Bellamy. The Eastern Conference final get underway last night and it was rather surprising because the Canadiens, as John Denzel likes to say, took that ass. They defeated the Carolina Hurricanes. Definitely looked like it was more than just rink rust. I mean, they were off for a while, but that first period scoring, 33 seconds in was Carolina. But then four unanswered goals. Their defense looked terrible. They gave up multiple break rate goals. Your Slafkowski with a beautiful goal in the third. It was just about as bad of a game as the Hurricanes have played all season. What did you see in that game, David?
David Druck
Interestingly, when you dig a little bit deeper, it wasn't as bad as the score would indicate and as the chances would indicate.
Roy Bellamy
Terrible day. They look bad.
David Druck
I just, when I dove into the analytics this morning after, you know, going through the game last night, I was actually kind of surprised to see Carolina was like really fairly dominant in a lot of the possession areas. The first period was a little bit more even. Like possessionally, Carolina still had the edge, but it was a little bit more even. Scoring chances were pretty even between the two, but as the game went on, it was really Carolina until the third period when Montreal finally was able to dig their heels in a little bit and limit some of the chances even though Carolina had the puck. But, but similarly to what we saw in game one between the, the Avalanche and Vegas, I think it kind of sets us up for what could be a really exciting series just because the favorite, the teams that we, we all thought were going to kind of have a really easy, not easy, but you know, that we thought were going to come out of it, they both struggled a bit and now we're set up, you know, the road team's already won in Both series. So it hopefully means that we're going to get long series for both. But I, I think when looking, when digging around with the, with the way that the analytics were for this game, Carolina wasn't quite as bad as we thought.
Roy Bellamy
Well, specifically I'm talking about the transition defense because the rushes for Montreal looked pretty dominant and yes, they had those multiple breakaway goals. Ethan, what did you see in this game?
Ethan
I saw what I usually see from the Carolina Hurricanes in the conference final, Roy. I saw that the analytics judged them out as being the better team. And then you watched the game and they were thoroughly dominated by the Montreal Canadiens. They had a good spell in the second period. They were the better team in the second period. They got the lone goal in the second period. But once the Canadiens escaped with a two goal lead from that flurry, it just felt like that was it for the, for the Canes and they didn't really have anything for them in the third period. This is what we're used to with the Carolina Hurricanes. They run through the mon. The Metropolitan Division and then they get to the Atlantic Division and they face a, a sturdy opponent in the Eastern Conference final. And, and their game kind of doesn't match up. And the, the Montreal style was a great counter to the Carolina style. They beat them on breakouts. They scored what, two or three breakaway goals. Slafkovsky beat them in one on one skill. Like we're seeing that skill that overwhelms Carolina, who doesn't have that high end superstar, that game breaking type player. Right? Montreal has a couple of them. Demidov had a great moment last night. Slavkovsky, like I mentioned, had that tremendous goal in the third period that we'll see later on. And Caulfield had a big moment as well. So their, their, their breakout defense was terrible in that first period. They gave up four goals on breakouts in this game. Their defense was not good. And it was because a lot of they were forcing, you know, all their guys were coming towards the puck because they play that aggressive style of defense. It was leaving a guy open and Montreal was able to find the guy in behind and score. So look, I do agree Carolina is better than what we saw last night. There's no doubt about that. But, but if you're a Carolina fan, are you not saying to yourself, here we go again. Like they, they get to the Eastern Conference final and they get waxed. And I understand that the story will be that it was because of rust, but that looked to me like the same game that the Panthers played Against the Carolina Hurricanes four times in the Eastern Conference final last year on their way to a gentleman's sweep. So I think it's more than just Russ that went into it. The Canadiens had a great game plan. They limited Carolina to just 25 shots. It's not like Carolina put up one of these giant shot totals. And the biggest thing they did, Roy, is they beat Carolina how you beat Carolina. They kept them onto the wings, and they were just throwing empty calorie shots on net and. And they weren't even getting to the net most of the time. Montreal won 30 to 12 in the shots block department. That can be the key in this series. It's just not even letting the puck get to the net because they're forcing Carolina to the edges. And it's much harder to get pucks on net if they're on the edges rather than playing from right in front of the net.
Roy Bellamy
It's how Vegas beat Colorado the night before. They got into shooting lanes and they blocked shots. Dave, where do you see Carolina adjusting in this series?
David Druck
Well, I think first off, it's got to start with what you mentioned, Roy, and that's their transition defense. It's where they struggled the most. It's where Montreal generated the most. Their most opportunities. So I think right straight away would be trying to limit what Montreal can do, can do whenever, whether it's a turning the puck over, whether it's coming out of their own zone. Otherwise, I think, you know, as Rod Bernamore said, it's one of those games where you just kind of have to throw it away. There are going to be some things they can build on, but the highlights of the game all were Montreal. So I would think that we're going to see Carolina bounce back in Game 2. But, you know, kind of what Ethan was talking about, what are they like? Oh, and they're 11 or 17.
Ethan
They're. They're owing seven in game ones in the Eastern Conference final in franchise history, and they're 1 in 17 in their last 18 Eastern Conference finals games since 2009.
David Druck
Yeah, that has me excited for game two, because if that has to be Wayne on Carolina, they're going to get asked about that for the next two days. That's going to be a big topic. So you would think that going into it, that's going to be something on their minds, whether they want to admit it or not. Certainly going to be on Rod's mind because he's been there for all of that. So, yeah, no, now I'm just more excited for game two. Because if Montreal comes out and somehow wins game two, how is that series not basically over at this point? Like you. The way that they've been playing combined with Carolina's struggles at this point of the season, like Carolina's got a win game too.
Ethan
I think it's really dangerous if you're rba, if you say that's a burn the tape game because there is so much that they have to learn from in that game. You can't just say that we'll show up in game two and we'll be better or if we play the same way in game two that, you know, a bounce goes this way and a bounce goes that way, we'll win. Like, Carolina has to change something because if they show up and play the same game that they did in game one, they will get burned in game two. And all of a sudden things get really frisky if they're going back to Saint Tribel. Well, I almost said Bell center, you
Roy Bellamy
see, because you know, that's correct.
Ethan
I said the proper name, though. If they go back to Santra Bell down O2, I agree with Dave. Like you're looking and. And the demons start worrying up if you're Carolina, right? Like you start to see the ghosts of Christmas Bass. And I would not. That barn was nervous last night. It got quite fast. I would not want to be a Carolina fan. If I go down 02. I don't want to be a Carolina Montreal.
David Druck
If I'm Montreal, you know what I do for game three? I bring in like Matthew Tachuk or I bring in somebody that's had a part in Carolina's conference final dismay over the last decade. Whatever it's been, I'd bring in some of those guys. And that's our special guest tonight. Here's Sam Bennett. You know, something like that. Just to get in their heads a little bit more.
Roy Bellamy
You called Rod Brindemore rba. Is that a situation where if it. I mean, you. You do it if it's a hyphen in his name, but that's an apostrophe. Ethan is. Does anybody else call him rba?
Ethan
I think that's kind of how he's widely known, is it not rba. I feel like people rotting him as rba. Roddy. Roddy the body, right? Or Rod the Bod. Rod the bodies.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah.
Ethan
Roy, there's going to be a lot of questions asked. They go on and lose this series in four or five, which. Let's just slow down a little bit. Same thing with Vegas and Colorado, right. There's still two really good teams that we're dealing with here, but if they go on and lose in a similar way to the way they have the last four times they've been to the Eastern Conference finals, there's going to be a lot of questions to ask in Carolina about Rod Brindemore this offseason.
Roy Bellamy
So Montreal season ended. I'm sorry? The Buffalo Sabres season ended because they lost to the Montreal Canadiens. And Buffalo immediately after the series ended extended Lindy Ruff's contract. That was well deserved for him. As we talk about the Canadiens moving on to the second round, they got there because Alex Tuck did nothing, literally did nothing. Not a single solitary point in that series. At the after coming off a pretty good series against Boston, he was a minus 10 against the Montreal Canadiens. And he's going into the offseason as a free agent. So his agent says that his performance, his poor performance in that series won't affect his market value. And I believe Buffalo wants him back. But does that performance affect the number that Buffalo offers him coming up once they start continuing the negotiation?
David Druck
David I don't think so. I think when you're looking big picture, he had such a big part of their success this season and really he's been such a great like Buffalo saber since he came over from Vegas. Like, I, I just think that you've got to keep him in town, keep that locker room together. Like, if anything you would put a chip on his shoulder. The way he played against Montreal in that series, like, that was rough. He's been there heart and soul now. So I'd be really surprised if they let him go to free agency and they let him test the waters.
Ethan
One thing I will say about Tuck is he can get paid if he goes to free agency because the free agency class this year is weak and he will probably be the top name on the market. And if he's not on the market, if Buffalo extends him, then this free agency class, it looks even uglier than it already does. So if he wants to cash in, then he should absolutely go to market. But if he wants to remain, you know, he's a Buffalo guy. He's a, he grew up in Syracuse,
Roy Bellamy
so he's upstate New York. That's his territory.
Ethan
Yeah. And, and he grew up a Sabres fan and when he came in back, came over in the Jack Eichel trade, that was huge for him. It's been a huge part of that rebuild. And he did, we, we can't forget. He did have a great Series against Boston. He was arguably their best player against Boston, but for whatever reason, he just couldn't get going against Montreal. But it's definitely going to affect his number, I would say. I think that that performance and he. I thought he played well in Game 7, but he just couldn't get on the board. It was fascinating to watch.
Roy Bellamy
Rosie, you have something on the playoffs.
Rose
Yeah. I think when you have 11 days to rest, you lose that momentum, and you cannot lose momentum, because I'm gonna give you an example. When I start watching a show and I binge watch and I stop for a week, then I forget who the character is. So I think they need not to rest. They need the momentum. So that's what happened to Carolina. Like 11 days. They forgot that they were.
Roy Bellamy
They forgot they were in the playoffs.
Ethan
They forgot who the main characters were in the show. They forgot to cover your eyes. Lefkovsky and Philip denof.
Rose
They were like, off. I forgot about. Wow. Am I here? Yes. No. So I think those 11 days helped us because, well, we don't want Carolina to win.
Roy Bellamy
But it's a constant debate about whether it's rink rust or having rest going into a series, as opposed to the team that just came off a game seven or game six that has to go straight into another series. Who has, you know, who has the better options in that situation? It seems as if the underdogs did because Vegas won.
Rose
I think when you Montreal and when you have that adrenaline and everything, you. You're just, let's go get another one. Let's go get another one. But if you have the rest, like, you don't want to go back.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah. Sorry, Ryan.
Ethan
I thought the. The biggest place that you saw the rust factor was Freddie Andersen, who was great in the first couple rounds and was led up five on 21 shots last night. Like, you could argue he was really. And like, Carolina shook off the rust after the first period, right. Like the second period, they had a shift where they were in the zone for like two and a half minutes or something. Like, there were plenty of flurries in that period, and they shook off the rust, and they looked more like the can or liner we came to know. That's why I continue to say that they have to be cautious about blaming it all on rust. And we have to look at what happened and say Montreal beat them in the exact way that teams have beaten Carolina in the past, and they have to learn something from it. And look, they always say they're going to play the way they play, so they've Got to change something.
Roy Bellamy
So in the west, what will Vegas. I'm sorry, what will Colorado have to do to adapt and adjust to what Vegas just did to them in game one? This is for David.
David Druck
Well, well, thanks for setting me up there, Roy. I appreciate it.
Roy Bellamy
You got it. Sorry about that. I forgot you're. No, I gotta get used to you being on Zoom.
David Druck
Yes. I think for if I'm Colorado, I just want to keep doing what I did in game one. Aside from missing the net so many times, they put so many pucks on net that game. They had so many grade 8 chances that just missed on one. Timers were flying wide. If I'm Colorado, I'm actually feeling pretty good going into game two. Thinking so much went wrong for us in that game and we still had a lot of chances. They were in the game right up until the end. They had that nice comeback in the third period that almost happened. Thankfully it didn't for our overtime streak. But no, man, I'm very pro. Colorado tonight, I think they're going to come and try to blow the doors off.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, something on. Rusty versus Rest versus Well, no, just
David Druck
going back to, you know, you guys were talking about like Carolina's rust against Montreal in game one and I'm thinking it's. It just feels very similar to a year ago at this time when Carolina marched through the first two rounds, five games each time. Florida came out of the second round after that long seven game series against Toronto and flipped right into the Eastern Conference final where they turned around and scored 10 goals in the first two games in Carolina. So that there may be something to that rust specifically with this Carolina team.
Roy Bellamy
Okay, let's really quickly since game one for both series have happened, who on each team could win the Con Smythe Trophy today?
David Druck
Who?
Rose
Dumbadov?
Roy Bellamy
Dimidov. All right, Dimidov, that's one.
David Druck
I mean Montreal. It seems like there's a new, a new candidate popping up like recently, you know, Slavkovski I feel like is the name right now.
Ethan
I would go maybe Dovish. I was going to say. Yeah, he's been fantastic and he was great again last night I thought. And he's had a couple of stinkers but overall he has been tremendous for them. The other Carolina, Logan Stankhoven, he's got seven goals, only one assist though. Jackson, Blake and Taylor hall lead the team in points. I'll tell you who it certainly won't be is Sebastian Aho or Seth Jarvis. Five points each right now, two of them, Sebastian Ajo's points have been empty net goals.
David Druck
They got to get more than Freddie Anderson before.
Ethan
Yeah, it might have been. No, absolutely. Freddie Anderson or, or stankhoven would be the two guys. For me you just give it to that whole stank open line. Right now Marner is the guy if you're in Vegas he has been the best player in the playoffs and in, in Colorado I mean you could give it to any number of guys but I guess it would just be Nathan McKinnon by default, would it not? Or at this point if Kale McCarr comes back into the lineup and then they go on a run here and win the rest of the series like you got right.
Roy Bellamy
Not either one of the goaltenders.
David Druck
Does Nazem Kadri get a nod because he's been pretty lights out too.
Ethan
Not, not no, not for me in that west series. I think Marner has been so far and above the best player in the playoffs Roy that you can't give it to Hart even though he has been great. And also I just don't want to see Carter Hart win the Gonsmith trophy. But and Wedgwood and Blackwood have been on and off so for me if it's car like I said Colorado like it would just kind of be a legacy achievement award at that point to give it to McKinnon.
Roy Bellamy
Dave, what about you?
David Druck
I agree. No, I think it's, it's kind of easy with Vegas. It's going to be Mitch Marner lean between Statehoven and Anderson in Carolina just I mean Anderson probably before yesterday was the surprise. But yeah, in Colorado I, I, I don't know like I'd want to maybe think about some one of the non traditional guys. That's why I threw my car's name out there. But it's hard, it's hard to go against the norm. Like the, the Carlos top guys are playing like they're top guys.
Rose
Rosie, I don't, I don't know any other players but I just want to say how you didn't tell me how many handsome players were on this roster and I just found out about Brett Howdawi or whatever.
Roy Bellamy
Brett Howden. How do you mess up that name?
Ethan
Brad Howden actually isn't a bad shout for the Conn Smythe. He leads the NHL in goals.
Rose
There you go. I won that guy. I saw that game and everybody was very handsome and you guys didn't told me so I love this team except for the one guy that we hate but wow, very handsome.
Roy Bellamy
So Brett Howden is Rosie's pick for The Con Smite Trophy. It's time for puck luck, and it's sponsored by DraftKings. DraftKings. The Crown is yours, David. What do you got? Make some money.
David Druck
All right. As I said earlier, I'm really feeling the Colorado Avalanche tonight. So we're going to take Colorado on the puck line tonight. Not only are they going to win, but they're going to win by multiple goals. Before the overtime clincher against Minnesota, Colorado had won five straight playoff games by at least two goals. This is a team that's rolling right now, and I think tonight they're going to flex their Avalanche muscles also in this game. On that note, we're going to take Carter Hart over 28 and a half saves. Colorado's the most shots in the playoffs. They had 31 in game one, and that's why they had, what, 20 shots blocked in 80 shot attempts. Vegas has allowed 30 or more shots in three straight games and five of their last seven. And finally, we're going to take Marty Niches over two and a half shots on goal. Pretty simple. He's hit that in six of seven. He's getting over 20 minutes of ice time per game for Colorado. Parley odds? 550. Feeling kind of good about this one, for whatever that's worth. So let's go make some money.
Roy Bellamy
All right, it's time for Rosa and un minuto. Rosie, what do you have?
Rose
Okay, so right now I'm gonna give it to you in Spanish, but in English, I have a surprise. Are you ready?
Roy Bellamy
All right. That was Rosa in un minuto. Thank you very much.
Rose
A little bit of chaos.
David Druck
Oh, they said cows.
Roy Bellamy
Speaking of chaos, it is time for Rose in a minute. Rose, take it away.
Rose
Okay, listen to this voice. This is not country.
Roy Bellamy
This is soccer.
Rose
Four goals in the first, like, good night.
David Druck
Sounds like a mix of Shakira and
Ethan
sounds like a World cup song. Yeah. Shakira making the world. Shakira should make the World cup song every year. Let's be very clear about that. Every four years. Losing my wallet. Some things never change.
Roy Bellamy
All right, so that was Rose in a minute.
Rose
You guys didn't enjoy it because the voice talked, but great song.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, we talked over the song. Sorry about it.
David Druck
We enjoyed the song.
Roy Bellamy
It's better than country, which is what you blasted in my ear during the watch along.
Rose
Yeah, that's why I was like, you know what? I'm just gonna take it Shakira mode.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah. Thanks for everybody who watched watch along with us. That was. That was very nice. We are going to do this again next week, Wednesday, for game four of the Eastern Conference final. That would be Carolina at Montreal.
David Druck
So let's go to Montreal. Sweep at home.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah. So it could be an elimination game. Who knows? It's time for wins and fails. Dave, what is your win?
David Druck
All right. So over the past week, a couple of the Hometown Remix jerseys may or may not have leaked. We don't know for sure. Obviously, nobody's confirming it. Next year, they're going to be doing in the NHL Hometown Remix, which I guess is kind of like a updated version of the reverse retros. Just another way for different jerseys. Sell some more, all that cool stuff. So we saw Panthers leak and we saw an Islanders league.
Roy Bellamy
What? She asked if you liked it.
David Druck
Well, I was. I was gonna get to that. Thank you.
Rose
Sorry.
David Druck
I liked that. They're taking swings. Okay. The Islanders one feels like we've seen it kind of before with the Fishermen, but I like that logo. I'm fine with it. The Panthers one is totally, totally off the rails. Like nothing we've seen before. It's like a highlighter color jersey, but again, unique, different, cool. And again, I'm all. I'm all for trying to stretch it out, trying to do different things with the jerseys. I'm very curious because these two are so different. To see the rest of the league is going to, you know, how they're going to look when they get played out or when they get released or whatever. But a good start, a fun start. I'm in.
Rose
It look like bananas.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah. I don't think that it's real. And the reason why I don't think that is real is if you look at the Panthers jersey, the logo, the crest is not big enough. That is way too small also.
David Druck
Well, I think it's a child's jersey. Is that so? That's why the logos looked a little distorted for the size wise.
Roy Bellamy
Oh, and the captaincy designation. So the sea on the jersey. What the hell is that? That. That's illegible.
David Druck
A futuristic C. I don't like it.
Roy Bellamy
Don't like it. Do better. My win of the week is. The Professional Women's Hockey League has a new champion for the 2025, 26 season. The Montreal Victoire.
David Druck
Victoire.
Roy Bellamy
They took home the Walter cup and they gave 4, 4 nothing shut out of the Ottawa charge. They won 3 to 1. Abby Roque scored twice and Ann Renee Debienne. I believe that's how you pronounce the last name. Earned the shutout as goaltender captain. The captain, Marie Philip Poulain was named the the playoff MVP for eight points in the playoffs. That was the most in the league's short history. The most as a record for most points in the playoffs. So good for Montreal as they are the new champion. They were the best team in the league all season. So good for them. Ethan, what is your win?
Ethan
My win of the week comes from last night's Montreal Carolina game. If we can roll it here, this might be the best goal of the playoffs here, guys. Your eyes, Slavkovsky. What a move around Andre Svechnikov and then beats Freddy Anderson to the near post. Check this out again.
Roy Bellamy
Absolute.
Ethan
Oh, beautiful move. Like I said, this might be the goal of the playoffs so far. Your eyes. Slavkovsky scored two goals last night, one on the empty net, but they were his first two non power play goals. If he gets rolling out 5 on 5 and that line gets rolling at 5 on 5, look out. The Canadians are going to be really dangerous in this series. Rosie, your win of the week.
Rose
This is my win of the week. Play. Play it, boys. Ooh. But you can.
Roy Bellamy
You're going to have to describe the video, Rosie.
Rose
So I love when people take videos and they make it funny and they have these voices for the goalies and they're like, ah, I can do this. But you can see. So it's a Carolina player trying to see and the goalie from the Montreal
Roy Bellamy
trying to do is to go the goal.
Rose
That's what it is.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah.
David Druck
So reverse justice there.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, it's a reverse screen. That's what it is.
David Druck
Yeah, I love it. It's all for it. Let's go. More goalie, more goalies trying to get around on players. I'm all for that. Let's go.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, that's nice, but. Yeah, like Sean Avery. Yeah, yeah, exactly like Sean Avery, I guess. Right, but that's an actual screen. Actually. It looked like Dopas was trying to pull off a Sean Avery in that situation. Just silly. What is your fill of the week, though, Dave?
David Druck
For my fill of the week, we're heading to the IHF World Championships over in Switzerland for a game earlier this week between Norway and Slovenia. Early in the third period, Norway was already up 2 nothing. Jacob Bergwin went on a breakaway that was stopped by the Slovenian goaltender, Zan Us. But after he stopped it, the puck kind of sat between his legs. He reached down to cover it with his glove and somehow knocked it into his own net under his body. I've never seen a goalie scoring himself in this way before. I feel terrible for Zan us, who's actually playing a really good game right now. They're playing Canada as we speak. But, yeah, that's. Oh, I like, I hate for the goalie on goalie negativity, but I'm sure he would agree with me that that's just so, so bad.
Rose
Unfortunate.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, that's not. That's. That's not good at all. My fail of the week is Cindy Crosby. Now, you might be asking yourself, why, for no reason, is Roy going with Cindy Crosby as his fellow of the week? Well, he didn't play in the second round, and you might just be a hating ass hater. So let me tell you why I might be hating ass hating. It's because in this. I'm going to. We're going to relive this film in a second. But the Philadelphia Flyers had the fans go into the Xfinity Mobile arena to paint the ice. That's what they usually do at the end of the season before, you know, the ice maintenance crew at each arena chops up the ice and gets rid of it. So what happened was somebody painted a. A body figure on the face off dot that said and said, rip bozo. This is where Sidney Crosby flopped during the series against the Flyers, where Garnet Hathaway skated past him as they were getting ready for the face off and just an accidental high stick as he was moving by. And then, oh, sniper got him.
Rose
I've been shot.
Roy Bellamy
Down goes Sidney Crosby. So it was an opportunity for me to relive that feel once again. Ethan, what is your feel?
Ethan
The Carolina Hurricanes, Roy, 1 in 17 in their last 18 Eastern Conference finals games. That is rough.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, that. That's it.
Ethan
That's my fail.
David Druck
Ethan clearly did his winning kind of
Ethan
low on time here, Dave. Roy, that's my fail.
David Druck
Or I've only had a whole week to come up with wins and fails,
Ethan
so I'm going to come up with one. Is that not the fail of the week? Losing on your home ice, 5 to 6?
David Druck
2. I mean, that's your fail of the week. Sure.
Roy Bellamy
But for those of you who are watching on DraftKings Network, please check out and subscribe to our YouTube at the Hockey Show DLS because coming up, Rosie is going to lead us a in a conversation about off campus. Yay. We'll be right back.
Ethan
Tony, you know that moment at a party or at a tailgate where everything just sort of clicks? I know it. Well, it's usually when I show up, everybody goes crazy. Yeah, you usually take all the credit for it, but it's because Tony usually walks in with Cuervo.
Roy Bellamy
Walking like this.
Ethan
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Cuervo is a thing that turns hanging out into this is the night. It has that effect on people. It does. You usually take the credit for it, but again, it's the Cuervo effect. It's like that moment in a big game where everyone in the crowd just starts standing up, hooting and hollering.
Roy Bellamy
Keep it Cuervo.
David Druck
Keep it Cuervo, baby. The NBA playoffs are here, and DraftKings Sportsbook, an official sports betting partner in the NBA, brings excitement to every game all postseason long. Rose
So we are still talking about off campus. Ethan and I. We already finished it because I don't know how these boys after watching episode three the end they could not watch episode four. I binge it like that happened to
Ethan
me Rose where I like last like Friday or Saturday night or whatever. I watched episode two in the afternoon and then I went to watch episode three before bed. And I watched episode three and then I watched. I was like, wait, I have to watch episode four. So then I watched episode four and the way episode four ends, I'm like, I have to watch episode five now. And then I watched episode five and I was like, oh my God, I have to watch episode six. And then I watched episode six and it was 2:30 in the morning and I'm like, I really need to go to bed. But let me just see the first like three minutes or so of episode seven. So that's what I did. But yeah, I finished show. It's awesome. We'll get to it eventually. But Rose lead us off on episodes two and three.
Rose
So we left them as the deal, right? And we start like, we go there and Graham start being so cutesy with Hannah, and then he's like taking the picture and giving him a kiss in the. In the chick. And that's what led to one of the best scenes. Like, for me, it's one of the best scenes in the show. The first kiss that they had. Roy, do you watch that scene? How about that scene?
Roy Bellamy
I'm just sitting here watching you two have a conversation about something I really don't want to talk about.
Rose
Tell me, didn't you got excited in that scene, like the part where he's like, oh, yeah, you said no kissing. And then she grabs him and he's like, well, what's wrong, Graham? Didn't you say we need to practice? And then you said the great kiss.
Ethan
This is the. The scene in the gym, right, Rose? Yeah, this was. Oh, this was.
Rose
I think I have a picture there and there's something.
David Druck
And then she went and kissed his teammate.
Ethan
Oh, that was. That was. That was ballsy. That was a ballsy play.
Rose
That was ballsy. But let me tell you something. In the. In the book, it happens, but she doesn't kiss Logan. She kisses Dean. And when I found out she kisses Dean, I'm like, now I wanna. Now I want that.
David Druck
Which one is Dean?
Rose
Dean is the one with a blonde hair.
David Druck
The one that hooks up with everybody.
Rose
Yeah. Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
David Druck
The one that's gonna take JLo.
Rose
Yeah, the playboy. The Playboy guy.
David Druck
Yeah. Okay, gotcha.
Rose
In the show, they put him. And I'm like, I. I get why, but bro, it's so. Like in the book, he gets so jealous and everything. And Graham in this one, just smile.
Ethan
So I'm like, I feel like he definitely got. There was some hint. There was a hint of jealousy there for sure.
Rose
But I want to see More.
Ethan
Yeah.
David Druck
But I feel like setting it up, though. No. Like, are they not setting it up for, like, that other teammate to maybe start developing feelings for the girls? So there's, like, going to be, like, a love triangle now. Like, you can kind of see, I think, what. Where we're heading.
Ethan
And I don't. I don't like that storyline because I really like the idea of. At this point, I really like the idea of Garrett and Hannah, and I don't like the idea of somebody trying to get in there, which is obviously happening with the guitar player. What's his name? Justin, the guitar player. So I kind of like John Logan. I'm a little suspicious of John Logan. I don't really like what he's trying to do in terms of these feelings that are kind of starting to develop for.
David Druck
Is that you kind of the nice
Ethan
teammate that's the one with the. Yeah, the hair and the big eyes. Kind of dreamy, I would say.
David Druck
Yeah. Well, they set it up at the start of the show. They show us this great camaraderie between the teammates and how they all get along, and now they're about to throw a wrench into it all.
Rose
So, yeah, he's the best friend. Like, of course, you need a little bit of drama there, but I just. I just think it was kind of also unnecessary because you need to keep watching. But for me, like, that I finished. I think it's very unnecessary.
Ethan
Like, yeah, it doesn't add really anything. Like, it kind of is just a storyline that's just kind of there and it never really gets developed. Wait, hold on. Don't take that yet.
David Druck
Stop spoiling shit for us, guys.
Ethan
A lot going on back here. Anyway, point. The point I was trying to make is that that storyline kind of, like, develops, and it's just like, it's there, but it never really gets developed. And I don't really.
David Druck
You just went right back to doing what you apologize for what? Stop spoiling.
Ethan
I'm not spoiling anything. I'm not telling you how they.
David Druck
What happens. They're developing. It goes.
Ethan
It's just kind of. I don't know. Anyway. Okay, hold on. The picture that we just put up here, and I want to put it up again. This scene Rose, where they're pretending to date in class and. Because the other guy in class, if there's one scene where I, like, cringe the hardest and was the most, like, this is the most ridiculous show, is when she knocks the water. Water bottle over and it goes, like, tumbling down all of the stairs and The. The great line in this was he brings her a coffee, right? And the coffee has milk in it. And she's like, I'm lactose intolerant. And he's like, just, you know, just pretend or whatever. And she's like, I can't pretend to not be lactose intolerant. That was. That was a good play. That was. But very cheeky play. Garrett, at this point, playing exceptional role of fake boyfriend. But you can already start just seeing develop. And it. Once it. Once we get to the party, that's when it really starts to develop, where you start seeing the fact that he's going to really start falling head over heels for this girl. And I love the scene at the party where they go up to bed and they're arguing over who is going to sleep in the bed.
Rose
Oh, my God.
Ethan
And then they both. And then it cuts to the scene and it's an empty bed, and they're both on the sides of the bed. I thought that was really cute and really cheeky, and I thought that was fun.
Rose
It was a great way to end the episode because it leaves you, like, okay, excuse me.
Ethan
So you put the next one right, because the start. The end of that episode is they fall asleep.
Rose
Yeah.
Ethan
And he. He goes back to sleep. Right? Like, he leaves her on the bed and he goes back onto the floor and goes to sleep.
David Druck
Yeah.
Ethan
Yeah. That was sweet. When they fall asleep together, like, watching whatever YouTube videos, that's when you kind of start to see them. Like, you start to feel like, okay, there's something that's developing here. But, Rose, can we talk about the. The alley and the JLO and Maverick?
Rose
Oh, my God.
Ethan
This is the clip that's gone the most viral from the show, right, Rose?
Rose
Yeah.
Ethan
The JLO and Maverick dance. Yeah. There's a picture of it in here
Rose
that you see him.
Ethan
You can take it, Jay.
Rose
Look at that, bro.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, take it, Jay. Go ahead.
Rose
I wanted to put that scene, but. Because we're gonna get flagged. I did not put it. But yeah, it's so like. Like, once you start hearing JLO and the song and then she starts dancing and then he gets in, and I'm
Ethan
like, oh, that's some instant chemistry there, Dave. Did you. Did you see some instant sparks flying there when you watched the show?
David Druck
I thought that her boyfriend was gonna walk in in the middle of all that. Went out to get his. His Dunkin Donuts cup from his car.
Rose
No, they can't do that because season two is gonna be them.
Roy Bellamy
What a dork.
Ethan
That Guy. Wait, Rose. That's a spoiler.
David Druck
You guys are really bad at this.
Ethan
That's a spoiler. Really bad.
Roy Bellamy
I, I. Okay, My opinion of the show has not changed. It's just not for me. All right? It's bad, specifically the hockey action because the opponents against Breyer or whatever the name of the college is, they were chasing the puck.
Rose
Yeah. What do you do? Chasing puck?
Roy Bellamy
No, they were legitimately chasing the puck. They weren't playing zone. They weren't being patient. They were just busy chasing everything and they looked terrible.
Ethan
Roy, I have a question for you. Did you expect to watch this show and see like high level hockey, like, like zone defense, like a Rod Brindemore system out there?
Roy Bellamy
I expected somebody to look like they knew what they were doing and none of them looked like they knew what they were doing.
Ethan
It's pretty, I will say it's pretty impressive the way they do these hockey
Roy Bellamy
shows because like, because it's not in this one.
Ethan
Because I wouldn't have been able to tell that Ben, what's his name? Rose? Benmont. The, the actor.
Rose
Oh, but no, but Belmont Camelli.
Ethan
Belmont Comelli. Thank you. Had never like skated hockey skates before that. And then like he's there skating. I can't even skate backwards. I've been on, I've been on skate. No, they're actually out there skating. Like they're doing the skating, they're doing the hockey scenes. And I've skated hockey, skated a lot in my life. Ice skates. I cannot skate backwards. So the fact that they looks like there were some of the guys, like, I think the guy who plays Dean is like played hockey growing up. Like he really knows how to play hockey. He knows a lot about hockey. But to be able to skate like that in just a short amount of time is really, really another fun fact.
Rose
The fiance of Dean, she read the books and she was like, hey, you are Dean. You have to audition. He got the part because the wife to be wanted him to be that.
David Druck
So the wife to be said, hey, you are this playboy. No, but screwing everybody. Go, go audition for this.
Rose
That's, that's a great point. But yeah, that's, that's, that's a story. That's a cute, beautiful.
David Druck
And let me, let me just ask about something else because some as I watch this show, they're very accepting about the open promiscuity of all these characters.
Rose
Wait, wait, no, no, no.
David Druck
But there's no, it's not the romance. They're all hooking up with Each other. Yeah, she's mad about him and he's. He's going down on another girl. But then they're making up in the. In the street. And then like the. The couple and she's with the other guy and. And it's all fine right to the end.
Rose
Because I'm gonna. I'm gonna.
Roy Bellamy
This is college.
Ethan
That's college. That's. That's college, man. That's what happens. No, there's groups intermix and there's a lot of overlapping when you're in a tight knit group like that. Yeah, there's a lot of. There's a lot of that when you go to college.
David Druck
There's a lot of sloppy seconds.
Roy Bellamy
The beginning of episode two, they tried to use hockey terms as metaphors for pulling off the planet. Just sounded forced to me. It. They didn't. Didn't sound.
Rose
Yeah, I didn't even notice that.
David Druck
I didn't like that either. You're chasing the puck. You got. You got to sit back in your heels. And she's just like, what the are you talking about, dude?
Rose
You gotta trust the player. Do you trust me? That's so.
Roy Bellamy
Look at the puck. Not. Look at the player, not the puck.
David Druck
Yeah. What puck? What are you talking about? Who's the puck?
Rose
He. The pucky is Justin and Graham is a player. So she has to watch the player because she has a player in front.
Roy Bellamy
I did laugh. I think it was the start of episode you did.
Ethan
Was that the first time?
Roy Bellamy
It was not at the show. It was at the advertising at the beginning of episode three. Because it was for Tinder.
Rose
Was it?
Ethan
Yeah, there was a little bit of Tinder. That's true. There was like some swiping left and right. Yeah.
Rose
I just saw Nike Pro. But he put picture 2.15 that I.
Ethan
That I sent you there 2.15 when I said. Is it the. Can you, Rose?
Rose
No, it is the one with. She's with Justin. But it's. She's inventing like she's dreaming. 2.15 it is her.
David Druck
She. But she's not dreaming, is she, Rose? No, she's not asleep, is she, Rose?
Rose
No, she's not asleep. No.
David Druck
No, she's very much awake.
Roy Bellamy
In those moments, daydreaming while doing something else.
David Druck
No, she's not daydreaming. Rose.
Roy Bellamy
While doing something else.
Rose
Sleepy. Because she wakes up and whenever he asked the. You can. Can you like. I did not understand that part. And it helped me so much that they put that part. Because then we get to the scene Where. Yeah, that was it. That he's like, can you. I'm like, can you what? Because I didn't understand yet her problem.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, that was not a phone going off, by the way.
Rose
A phone, Roy. Excuse me.
David Druck
They showed what it was she had in her hands.
Rose
They show what it was.
Roy Bellamy
But what was it purple? Was it pink?
Ethan
I will say beyond the, like, beyond, like. If you want to actually dive into, like, the mental, like, thing that's going on here with her. I thought it was interesting in terms of just, like, the.
Rose
Her story.
Roy Bellamy
The.
David Druck
Well, you can tell that it's coming
Ethan
from the hurdle that she has to get over right in. In order to do this and why she feels she has to do this. And, you know, obviously, eventually you'll learn why and what happened and everything, but they know.
Roy Bellamy
But I assumed it in episode one when. Yeah, give me the.
Rose
The. The second to last picture. No, the. The. Sorry, the one that says idea 22.
Ethan
Got it.
Rose
Yeah.
Roy Bellamy
So there she is in the hockey
Ethan
jersey, by the way. I want one of these jerseys. Their jerseys are cool. I would wear one of these. Briar. Briar. Especially the blue one. I would wear one with Graham in the back.
David Druck
Yeah.
Rose
But Ethan, in that picture, when I saw her and I saw her face, I was like, oh, no. She's just realizing he likes him. And this is gonna become another thing, another show for me. When I. When I figured out what it was, what really was, I was like, oh, no, you didn't.
Ethan
Yeah, yeah, I thought. Yeah, I agree, Rosie. I thought in that moment, too, she was like, oh, I really like him. And then she's like, oh, no, he has to make me do this in order to be able to do this with somebody else. And I was like, oh, that's kind of a wrench in the whole proceedings of the year, especially because at this point, I'm already all in on just forget about Justin and just go with Garrett already.
Rose
I was like, no, this is too fast. And when I saw her face, I'm like, okay, now she realizes he likes him, so Justin is gonna be out of the picture. I'm like, no, that's too fast. It's just episode number three. And then when I. Like when you realize, like, oh, the face was, oh, I'm having an idea, and I need to ask a friend. I'm like, no, you didn't. And it actually happens in the books. I thought it was just Amazon prime trying to put things there to make people watch, because I don't know why people love that. But man, that scene, I was like.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, no, this guy is really trying to get her to drink because in episode three, while they're at the bar, she actually took the drink, right?
Ethan
Yeah, but it's. It's actually a comfort thing. And we can take this picture of the pina coladas here because she had
Roy Bellamy
to try out some mixed drinks here. Yeah, she tried out the dry martini.
Ethan
She spat that out blue thing, right? Like the blue concoction.
Roy Bellamy
No, no, no, it was before.
Ethan
No, no, no.
Roy Bellamy
She tried an old Fashioned. She gave like a cell of facing. I don't know.
Ethan
And listen, I do that too.
Roy Bellamy
And then the pina colada comes, and then she has three of them as you put the picture back up. Oh, she had a fourth one.
Rose
Yes.
Ethan
Yeah, she had four of them.
Roy Bellamy
Well, yeah, she had a fourth one that's in her hand right now. Actually, on the right side of that
Ethan
picture, I will say Roy, the feeling that I gathered from that is not him trying to get her to drink. It's him trying to get her to open up to him and be more comfortable with him and let her know that, hey, you can trust me. You're safe with me.
Rose
You will not.
Ethan
Kind of.
Roy Bellamy
He did give her an ipa. He gave her an IPA party there.
Rose
Yeah. No, and. And also, I want to bring up this because we were talking with Roy. I. I think the character of Jules, they did this to me again. She doesn't exist in the books and she's so unnecessary. And they did this to me in the summer item. Pretty. When they put Sky. It's just. We don't need her.
Ethan
Yeah, she's just kind of there to keep the story moving and to kind
Rose
of like she doesn't even move it.
Ethan
Yeah, she narrates the hockey games. Like she's just kind of.
David Druck
She's validating their fake relationship like it's her.
Rose
It can be just the fifth line. You don't need her in the book. It's the fifth line specifically.
Roy Bellamy
Did not need her to narrate the hockey game exactly.
Rose
Like, it's just the extra that Amazon always loves to put in. They always do that. And I'm like, you give them too much screen time.
Roy Bellamy
Some breaking news out of Colorado. Caleb car is not playing in game two. That's it. That's all I have to say.
Rose
So for here to wrap here, the last picture is the last. Not the last, but the second to last. E this show the see the episode three.
Roy Bellamy
Oh, you kept the caption in this.
Rose
Oh, yeah. It ended. It ended with her Asking Graham for an orgasm. And I don't know how.
Ethan
That was a shocker. That was a shocker. Roy Rose. I was very. When she said that, I was like, oh, okay.
Roy Bellamy
The name of the episode was called the Orgasm.
Rose
Yeah, I know.
Ethan
His reaction.
Rose
Did not watch that. I just put next. And when. When she was saying. I thought she was gonna be like, hey, I like you. Hey, I need you to give me another.
David Druck
Pressure. No, A lot of pressure.
Ethan
A lot of pressure. A lot of pressure.
David Druck
She's got her own deal, apparently. I mean, I don't.
Rose
That's.
David Druck
That's what also confuses me because, like, apparently. Is this, like, a long standing issue? Because clearly she's, like, comfortable with her body.
Ethan
She's gotta watch episode four. You gotta watch episode four. Really?
Roy Bellamy
Okay.
Ethan
Yes, you do. It's good.
Roy Bellamy
I. I don't.
David Druck
So we have to watch another two before next week.
Rose
I say all of them if you want.
Roy Bellamy
I don't.
David Druck
That's not. Not possible.
Ethan
On the Kale McCarr subject, Roy, if the Avs lose tonight with Kale McCarr, they are in deep, deep doo doo without. Without Kale McCarr. Thank you.
Roy Bellamy
You're welcome.
Ethan
They are in deep, deep doo doo. Because it doesn't look like he's.
Roy Bellamy
Yeah, you're gonna say that twice.
Ethan
Yeah, I just wanted to say it doesn't look like he's going to be playing anytime soon, necessarily. So they better win tonight. This feels. It's. It's late, early. If you're Colorado going back to Vegas.
Roy Bellamy
Dave, what do the Avalanche do without killing a car? How can they adjust to that?
David Druck
Do the same thing they did in Game one. They were fine in Game one. As long as they can get pucks on net, capitalize on their chances, they'll be okay. Like, Colorado is a deep enough team that they can survive without Cale Makar. Like, they don't want to, obviously. But just because one of their best players out of the lineup, they're not going to pack it in and go home. And I don't think they should. I don't think that they're going to struggle a lot without Cale Makar. I just. Because I think they're a very good team. So we'll see how it plays out.
Roy Bellamy
