Billy Gill
God bless football, Billy Gill.
Dan Le Batard
God bless football.
Billy Gill
Stugots, how are you, man?
Dan Le Batard
I'm good. I'm here.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Well, a lot of people are concerned about you. They're calling you Billy Ill. That's really just me.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah. I don't think a lot of people are calling me that Illy.
Billy Gill
Gill. Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
I got a lot of texts yesterday.
Billy Gill
Did you?
Dan Le Batard
Yeah. I feel like some artistic liberties were being taken with my health. I was asked by multiple people, I heard you're in the hospital. And I said, I am not in the hospital. I was never in the hospital. Seems as though just someone decided to say on air I was hospitalized.
Billy Gill
I didn't say that.
Dan Le Batard
No, I know.
Billy Gill
Okay. Okay. It wasn't me. But you thought it was me, right?
Dan Le Batard
No, I know who it was. It was Dan. I know that. He said I was in the hospital for some reason.
Billy Gill
Did he really?
Dan Le Batard
Yes.
Billy Gill
Glad he has a pulse of his employees.
Dan Le Batard
Geez Louise.
Billy Gill
I think because he knows you love football so much.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Billy Gill
And he knows you love Radio Rose so much, he just figured it would take something like going to the hospital for you to not be here yesterday.
Dan Le Batard
Well, yeah, I'm here.
Billy Gill
You are here. Yep. How was your flight?
Dan Le Batard
It was. It was good. I like a good, quick flight. The last couple Super Bowls have been like five hour flights for us. This is a nice quick one. Up and down an hour 40, more or less.
Billy Gill
It was Vegas and Glendale. You're right.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah. I had. Obviously, because I'm me, I had, like, a stressful situation on the flight.
Billy Gill
Of course.
Dan Le Batard
Because when I was getting there, I saw someone at check in that I recognized, and I was like, should I go up and say hello to this person or should I not say hello to this person? I don't want to be a bother.
Billy Gill
Sure.
Dan Le Batard
And then at the gate, I saw the person, and he had his hoodie on and headphones. And I'm like, I'm not gonna talk to him. And then at.
Billy Gill
So you saw a person. You knew who this person was. The person is a celebrity. And unlike me, you were. You were questioning whether or not you should say anything.
Dan Le Batard
Well, it's gonna get worse when you find out who it is.
Billy Gill
Oh, God.
Dan Le Batard
So. So I. I end up then seeing this person at baggage claim.
Billy Gill
Right.
Dan Le Batard
And I'm like, well, I should I. If I say anything, it'll be now. Obviously, because I'm not gonna see this person the rest of the week, more than likely. And then other people were talking to this person. I'm like, okay, before I go, I'm just gonna say, you know, hello, introduce myself to the person, whatever, right? Also sitting next to this person, Braxton Barrios. So who we're gonna talk to this.
Billy Gill
Week, super bowl week, radio. That's what happens, you know?
Dan Le Batard
So there was. There's people on the flight, obviously, coming from Miami over here to New Orleans. And when I saw this person, I figured, they're gonna be on my flight. I know where they're going. So I go up, and on the way back, I get my bag, I go. And I was like, hey, how's it going? Like, I'm, you know, I'm Billy. I do the show with Stu Dods, you know, like, we've spoken a couple times, like, good to see you.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
And the guy goes, I know you are, Billy. Like, you don't have. I'm like, you know, like, we do. What? She's like, I know. I know who you are.
Billy Gill
Why are you surprised that people don't.
Dan Le Batard
You want to know who it was?
Billy Gill
I think I have a feeling.
Dan Le Batard
Who do you think it was?
Billy Gill
Raheem Mostert.
Dan Le Batard
It was Raheem Mostert.
Billy Gill
It was so awkward.
Dan Le Batard
I'm so awkward.
Billy Gill
Is he coming out?
Dan Le Batard
I was. I told him, like, I. I heard you're busy tonight. He's like, yeah, it's really busy. He's like, I'll find you guys. I'm like, okay, see you there. I was like, I think I knew. Like, all right, good luck this week. And then I leave and I go to get an Uber, right? And I'm just begging him, like, please, Uber, get here fast. Because I was already so awkward to begin with, I now don't want to be standing at, like, the Uber check with Raheem.
Billy Gill
Make it work. Make it worse.
Dan Le Batard
Exactly. Right? The less I say, the better. It's generally how my life goes. The less I say.
Billy Gill
The Fuentes and I came here. Jimmy Johnson was on our flight. Oh, I know. There's something that makes me feel good when a coach is on my flight, you know? Especially that coach, you know?
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Will Shields
Why?
Dan Le Batard
Because you think that he, like, I mean, just heaven forbid, you think that he'll. Plane crash is not in his future.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Yes.
Stugots
I feel like that's.
Billy Gill
Yeah, I feel better. What? I know. Plus, if something does happen, he's a coach. He's going to spring into action to take care of all of us. That's what coaches did.
Dan Le Batard
Oddly, I thought that with Raheem, too, I was like this.
Billy Gill
Did you really?
Dan Le Batard
I was like, this is good. Because should anything happen, like, he'll probably be, like, the first one to take control of this situation, and then I can hop in after.
Cam Jordan
Right.
Dan Le Batard
Like, I'm not a first, you know, responder situation, but, like, I can be guy number two or guy number three.
Billy Gill
But you can pile on very.
Dan Le Batard
Exactly. Right? Yes.
Billy Gill
Raheem, you get it started.
Dan Le Batard
Big crowd. I can kind of get in there.
Stugots
Hey, hey, hey.
Dan Le Batard
You know what I mean? And kind of stop things. Should. Should I need to. Did you see the. The awkwardness on. On opening night for multiple people Ask. Or I guess it was probably the same person asked Patrick Mahomes and asked Travis Kelce about the referees. So they ask, I think Travis Kelce.
Billy Gill
I was on a flight with Jimmy, just so you know.
Dan Le Batard
Oh, yeah.
Billy Gill
But Jimmy took care of it.
Dan Le Batard
Really?
Billy Gill
Yeah. That's good.
Dan Le Batard
I can't believe that Jimmy still, like, lives in the Keys or in Miami or wherever.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
And then he flies like, LA every week to talk football.
Billy Gill
We were shocked he didn't fly private, to be honest with you.
Dan Le Batard
You know, maybe things aren't as good.
Billy Gill
Let me tell you. It was delayed, but once they realized Jimmy was on the flight, that Bird was taken off. Jimmy was not having it.
Dan Le Batard
That's true.
Billy Gill
Yes. So you were saying about the awkwardness.
Dan Le Batard
Well, I was going to say someone asked Patrick Mahomes, like, what do you love more? Or what teammates have helped you in the past? Which referee has helped you in the most in the past? So they asked him about referees, and they asked Travis Kelsey, do you love Taylor Swift more? Do you love referees that call phantom roughing the passers to give you 15 yards more? He did not like that question one bit.
Billy Gill
It's a good question, though.
Dan Le Batard
Travis Kelce used to be a staple on these things.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
Never see him anymore.
Billy Gill
You're right.
Dan Le Batard
Big time. Also, he's always in the Super Bowl.
Billy Gill
I can't believe we're 50. War. You and I have grown old together, man.
Ed McCaffrey
Hey. Hey. It's a, you know, another year around the sun. We. We thankful for that. But, you know, being 50, they think the kids are, you know, like, dad, you old? Yeah, yeah, I've been.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Ed McCaffrey
I'm old, man. I'm old. I'm old.
Billy Gill
Kids have a funny way of humbling you, right?
Ed McCaffrey
Oh, yeah. They keep you in your place now, but they also keep you active, too.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Ed McCaffrey
So it's important that, you know, I stay active, you know, continue to move around. Just, you got to enjoy life, man. So trying to do that.
Billy Gill
You do Tell everyone what you're doing this week, New Orleans super bowl week with Smirnoff. After that, I want to ask you more questions about being 50. Okay, well.
Ed McCaffrey
Oh, oh yeah, Smirnoff. We're doing a huge tailgate along, the longest tailgate ever for a Super Bowl. It's going to be a 60 foot truck bed and we're just going to have a lot of food. A chef is going to be out there cooking and just a really great time for people to come out and enjoy themselves. And most importantly, they got to be. They have to drink response fully Y. But you know, come out and just have a great time. And I'm gonna have other former players out there with me like Vernon Davis and Chris and Chris Long. So I just think it'll be a great opportunity to come out and just really have a great time and, and enjoy themselves while they, while they're in New Orleans. It's going to be a fun time. But you know, for me, I'm always going to promote. We got to be responsible, drink responsible, have a great time, engage, just enjoy each other and just really enjoy that New Orleans, that New Orleans feeling. So it's really good sometimes to be hanging out on bourbon, but we'll be on Canal street this weekend.
Billy Gill
One of the really good people, one of the really good men to ever play in the NFL, Wark Dud is with us here on behalf of Smirnoff Drake responsibly. That's a great campaign by you. But I'm wondering, work, you have done so many fantastic things with your life, with your career. What is the thing you are proudest of?
Ed McCaffrey
Well, you know, I'm thankful honestly that I have the ability to just to help people, help change someone's life, impact them and just doing things in a positive way and helping them have a better future, not just for themselves, but for their kids. And you know, it's not just about me, but it's also about building a healthier society, healthy communities so that we can support each other. So I'm thankful that I do have the ability to impact communities in a positive way.
Billy Gill
In terms of cities, where does New Orleans rank for you?
Ed McCaffrey
Well, actually I was born in New Orleans. I'm a charity baby, so I'm a charity baby. Born in New Orleans, raised in Baton Rouge. So I mean, New Orleans, that's home. I have family there. I go back often and when, when I do go home, that's when I eat bad. So, you know, you know, I gain a couple pounds after being there because the food is so good.
Billy Gill
Right. What's your go to spot?
Ed McCaffrey
Yeah, I just, I just like the food and the food is different and, you know, every place, every city, but, you know, just having that, eating crawfish at. To fried catfish, gumbo jumbalaya, I mean, that's, that's money in the bank for me.
Billy Gill
Billy, are you taking notes here? Warwick is giving us some advice as to where to go when we make our first trip to New Orleans.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah, Warwick, I'm. I'm interested in the cuisine as well, so I've been looking for an expert of sorts. I'm glad, I'm glad that you're giving us this. I have a question for you.
Ed McCaffrey
Yes, sir.
Dan Le Batard
Liam, come. You want to punch him in the head, right? Responsibly?
Billy Gill
Yes, yes.
Ed McCaffrey
It'll be a love tap.
Dan Le Batard
Love, yeah. How do you go from saying, I'm not going to be the head coach to going back to Tampa to then just disappearing for extended periods of time and then you reappear. Like, here I am, the head coach of the Jaguars.
Ed McCaffrey
Well, you know, it's a business. You. I don't. You know, for me, you can't take anything personal. And I had to learn that early in life that this is a. And everybody's going to do and the teams are going to do what's in their best interest. Then as a player, and I know as coaches, you have to do things that are in your best interest. And so he's looking out for his future and his opportunity, and I can't really be mad at that. It is what it is. This is a business. At the same time that we do love the game of football and it's about team, but the business side comes first.
Billy Gill
Warwick, are you a fan of everything that's changed in college football?
Ed McCaffrey
No, sir, I'm not.
Billy Gill
I'm not.
Ed McCaffrey
You know, I. I think when you're thinking about college football, the nil has definitely just really impacted the game in such a way that, you know, kids are supposed to be in college, you can play sports, but you're supposed to be in college to get a degree. Today it just seems like everything is about the dollar and they're not going through any adversity. We all came out fine on the other side because we learned some things by going through some adversity. And once we fell down, we got back up and we're able to move in A more of a positive direction. And today they don't like something, they say bye, they get in the transfer reporter, go to the next location and they're just chasing the money and not necessarily focusing on the next 20, 30 years of their life. So for me, I, I just think the game, they need to take a step back and put some parameters around it because I want the guys to make money, but we, we need to have some parameters around this game so that it's a game where they're playing at the highest level, but you're also, you have to go through some adversity to get to the other side. Understand the journey that it's going to take to become a young man, a great athlete, just a great human being.
Billy Gill
If I told you way back when Deion Sanders would one day be a good head coach, dare I say great head coach, you would have told me what?
Ed McCaffrey
Well, I have to say wait and see. Right. Because it's hard to say who's going to be what. But I think Deion is taking what he's gotten from other coaches and what he has learned. I think he's trying to instill that in other athletes. So it's about a wait and see game and you know, for me it's just you wait. And he's still coaching, he still has a way to continue to grow and impact guys. So I think it's, it's only a matter of time. We'll see what happens. But it's a wait and see game.
Billy Gill
Do you marvel, I mean you're a former running back. You rush for I think over 10,000 yards during your career. Do you marvel the way we do at Saquon Barkley?
Ed McCaffrey
Well, I like his game. You know, just so you know, I'm 37 yards shy of 11,000. So if I would, if I would have got a couple more carries down in Tampa. Yeah, my, my early days I would been over 11,000. I've just missed.
Billy Gill
Who we blaming for that? No, there's someone to blame. Who we blame him for that war.
Will Shields
I hear it, I hear it.
Ed McCaffrey
Well, no, no. Think about when I first got into the league. I got drafted, I was 170 some pounds. And back then you're not going to let a 170 some pound running back run the ball consistently down in and down out. And whenever he got close to the red zone, they would take me out of the game. So it's just what it is. And I played at the era where, you know, I was only 185 pound max playing at this level and I had to prove that I can run the ball inside, I can make guys miss, I can do things that they didn't think I can do. And that was just that chip on my shoulder. But the game has changed today. It, you know, I've had guys who playing said if I played today, oh my gosh that, you know, I can, I can probably do some things. You play a lot longer and, and make a lot of guys miss. So it's, it is what it is. But I think I had a good career. I got over 15, 000 yards of total offense, rushing and receiving all purpose yards. So I, I impacted and, and I wasn't trying to get hit at all on if you remember. I wasn't trying to get touched.
Billy Gill
I remember.
Stugots
Yeah.
Ed McCaffrey
So I was, you know, I wrote a book, I was running for my life, literally so making sure that I can get up and, and go on to the next play. But I am thankful. And Saquon, I mean he's just really, you know, took a step, you know, forward and I think just being in Philly, you know, after his first year, I think now he, he found his rhythm and can he maintain that or continue that for the next few years? Time would tell, but right now he's riding high and, and you know, offensively they're controlling the line of scrimmage and creating holes and seams for them. He's hitting them at the right time and making guys miss and that's what's important.
Dan Le Batard
You think with that Eagles line you could get the 37 yards you need maybe two, three games to go out there. 20 carries, something like that. If not the Eagles, what's the team? Who's the line that get the 37 you need?
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Ed McCaffrey
That'S a tough one. That's a tough one right there because football has just changed. But you know, just watching Saquon, I mean he's running a little, little stretch or, or counter and, and he's able to utilize his skills. I mean I think I can probably do that. But if, you know what, if you just gave me a really good offensive line, I'm going to do my thing. Yeah, that's, that's all I need is good offensive line and they going to get all the credit. But I'm a work hard to get those yards.
Billy Gill
We'll have you promote Smirnoff again on the way out here, but one more question before we get to that. The Mt. Rushmore of Florida State football. Four names. I need four names. Warwick, the Mt. Rushmore of Florida state football.
Ed McCaffrey
The Mt. Rushmore of florida State football.
Billy Gill
Yep. You can put a coach on there, because I know you want to put Coach Bowden on there, so.
Ed McCaffrey
Oh, well, he. He's. He's the top. I mean, it wouldn't be. It wouldn't be any Seminoles, Florida State without Coach Bowden. And it's a lot of great players. You know, I know where there's. There's so many guys, I can't really just name four, honestly.
Billy Gill
Right.
Ed McCaffrey
The greatest player is. Is. Well, the greatest person is Coach Bowden, and obviously, Dion was a great player. Terrell Buckley was a great player. Charlie Ward.
Billy Gill
I mean, Charlie Ward has to be on there. Charlie Ward, Dion Bowden, they. All those three need to be on there. And dare I say you're the fourth? For me, you're the fourth.
Ed McCaffrey
I'm the fourth. Well, you know, the thing is, people don't know this, that when I went to Florida State, I was supposed to be a defensive back. And I made a deal with Coach Bowden that if you give me an opportunity to play running back, and if it doesn't work out, I'll move the defensive back. But he gave me an opportunity to play running back, and the rest was history after the first week of training and training camp. So I'm thankful that I was able to go there and definitely impact the school in a positive way and like I said, run and compete, and I love to compete. So I wanted to be where the best were at, and I wanted to show everybody that I can play with the best. So that's that competition in me. I. I don't think it's ever going to go away either.
Billy Gill
Listen, I think I left out Derek Brooks. Who am I taking off? I think I left out.
Ed McCaffrey
Well, no, Derek. Derek. I mean. But it's. It's. That's what I'm saying. It's so many guys that you can't. It's. You can't just pick four. I mean, I love Dion, but, you know, Brooks was a. Was a great player.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Ed McCaffrey
I mean, we had a. We had great guys on both sides of the ball. I mean, it's the. It's the teams that we. We had that brought it together. And remember, my year was the first year we actually won a national championship, so you got a lot of great players that. That played together, came together, and we all helped each other be the best that we can be. And that was the most important thing. It wasn't just one guy. It was a team. And Coach Bowden was the head of that. He was the, the one that brought us all together.
Billy Gill
Warwick, one more time on the way out here. Tell everyone what you're doing this week. New Orleans super bowl week with Smirnoff.
Ed McCaffrey
Well, everyone, please come out. I'll be in New Orleans at the Super Bowl. It's going to be the longest tailgate you've ever been a part of with Smirnoff Ice. We're going to have, you know, great food, some jambalaya. We're going to have other guys out, Vernon Davis and Chris Long. It's just going to be a great opportunity to come out and just really engage. Is going to be on Canal street. But if you want to know more, just go to smirnoff.com and you can sign up, find out the location that we were actually be at. Just come on out, just have a great time and we can all. You can toast each other and have a great time, drink some cocktails. So it should be a great, great time. Family and friends and just people that love to engage and just really want to enjoy themselves. But we always have to remember that we have to drink responsible. Always. Just let's take care of each other. Drink responsible. But we can still go out and have a great time together.
Billy Gill
You are a good man. We appreciate the time. Checking him out. Smirnoff. This week he's going to be in New Orleans. Going to be hanging out with Vernon Davis, Chris Long and others. By the way, 50 looks a lot better on you than it does me work. Thank you for your time, buddy.
Ed McCaffrey
Yes, sir. Well, I try to shave all the gray eyes. Try to keep it all off.
Billy Gill
I'm just unhealthier, that's all.
Ed McCaffrey
Oh, it's all. And you're good. Trust me.
Billy Gill
Stugach here, I want to tell you a story. I'm serious here. My wife and my two daughters, they begged me to buy a peloton. So I bought a peloton. And then I watched that peloton sit in my office and stare at me. So you know what I did one day I looked at it and so I decided to get off my ass and I jumped on the peloton because no one else was using it. And I paid for it. I mean, so why not? Then I realized eventually that they bought it for me. And I got to tell you, way more challenging than I could have ever imagined. Peloton coaches are walking the walk. I love the coaches. I do the Grateful Dead one. It's fantastic. They have a sub 3 hour marathon runner, military trained athlete, a former college basketball player and so many other well rounded coaches on their team. All this experience really shows in their classes, which are never shown short of challenging, especially for me. So I jumped on it that first time. It was challenging, more challenging than I thought. And then I wanted to beat the bike and so I kept jumping on it and I absolutely love it. I. I mean, I'm the only one who uses it, but again, they got it for me. I mean, I had no idea. That's a little passive aggressive, don't you think? Find your push, find your power. With peloton@1peloton.com. What's your favorite song, Matt Berry?
Dan Le Batard
What? My favorite start?
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Stugots
My favorite Chesney song.
Billy Gill
Yes. No, just your favorite song in general.
Stugots
My favorite song in general is Son of a Son of a Sailor by Jimmy Buffett.
Billy Gill
Really?
Dan Le Batard
I saw that you went not too long ago to a Jimmy Buffett concert.
Stugots
I am like you with the dead.
Billy Gill
That's why I started there.
Stugots
I went, I'm a Jimmy Buffett parrot. Yes, I'm a parrot.
Billy Gill
Are you really?
Stugots
I went to 46 shows before he died.
Dan Le Batard
What? Yeah.
Billy Gill
You went great, Cody.
Stugots
Crazy parrot.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Dan Le Batard
Really? 46. I saw him once and I'm so glad that I went the one time that I saw him.
Billy Gill
Right.
Dan Le Batard
He puts on a great show.
Stugots
It's an unbelievable experience.
Dan Le Batard
Incredible energy. The crowd is super into it.
Stugots
Yeah, it's.
Billy Gill
It's.
Stugots
I've been told that it's. I've never been to a Dead show, but I have been told it is basically it's like a Dead show when where it's tequila instead of pot. Basically is. But other than that, it's, you know, very same vibe. A very welcoming, like people of all ages and like you're just there and it's. It's all about the tailgating as well.
Billy Gill
And. Yes.
Dan Le Batard
What's your. Your go to outfit? Because there are some wild outfits when you go there. You're not a cheeseburger.
Stugots
I'm a. I'm usually like just a Hawaiian shirt or a previous Jimmy Buffett concert shirt. Very, you know, in, in spirit. But not, you know. Yeah, not, you know, coconut bra.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Billy Gill
I would see you in the cocon bra.
Dan Le Batard
You can't have people taking pictures of you dressed that way.
Stugots
Exactly, exactly.
Dan Le Batard
That's for when you're at home.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Did you ever get a chance to meet him? Yes.
Stugots
Multiple times.
Billy Gill
Multiple times. Look at you, Barry.
Stugots
I have a great. And we can do it on the air if you want, but I Have.
Billy Gill
We're on the air.
Stugots
Oh, we. Oh, we really are.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Stugots
That's awesome. It's amazing. It's hilarious. I didn't even know we were started.
Billy Gill
I love that fantasy football happy hour.
Stugots
We really have been on the air.
Billy Gill
I do start sometimes. We're talking music. I love this conversation. I want to hear about the times you have met Jimmy Buffett.
Stugots
I. I'll give you. I'll give you a great Jimmy Buffett story. So I've met him a couple of different times. The first time I met him. So when Jimmy was alive, he used to do a show for SiriusXM called the Bing and Bong Show. He has Margarita. He has Margaritaville Radio, which is still on SiriusXM.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Stugots
And so the Bing and Bong show was him and his musical director, Michael Utley. And like, I don't know, 10 minutes before the show, they would just. They would either answer viewer questions or they would interview somebody, or somebody would interview them. They would just. They played these characters. Bing and Bong, right? And so their Tour manager of 25 years, guy named Hakey Larson, is a production manager, dear friend of mine. And so Hakey, I was going to a show, and he. Hakey texts me and he goes, do you want to be on the Bing and Bong Show? Jimmy would love. You know, he knows you're a big fan. I'm like, oh, my God. Yeah. So I'm thinking I get to meet. I'll do it because I get to.
Billy Gill
Meet Jimmy, of course.
Stugots
Okay, fine. So I do the Bing and Bong show, and that's like in. In the summer in. In Mansville, Massachusetts. Okay. Maybe. Maybe eight months later, he plays a New Year's Eve show at the Barclay center in Brooklyn, New York. And I. I somehow managed to get front row tickets.
Dan Le Batard
Oh, wow.
Stugots
And I am. It's New Year's Eve, and it's my wife and I and another couple that we're friends with. And we.
Billy Gill
The.
Stugots
The tickets were a surprise. We get there, we're like, front row center. I am, you know, I'm. I'm hammered. And I'm just, you know, I'm going crazy. And I'm like, you know, I'm. I'm.
Billy Gill
I'm.
Stugots
Finn's up, you know, Finn's left. I'm doing the whole thing. I'm, you know, I'm bowing to him. I'm, like, all in. Like, I'm, you know, I'm knocking inflatable balls onto the stage. He never once recognizes me or acknowledging me, which is fine. Totally. It's totally fine. Like, he's playing 20,000 people, right? But never once does he just, you know, kind of give me, like, a little look or what? Everything like that. And I'm, like, making a big. I'm like, whatever. Who cares? Like, had a great show.
Billy Gill
Noticed, right?
Stugots
Try to get noticed. But I was just so into it. I don't care. Again, I've already met him and, like. But whatever. My point is, is that he never does. He never acknowledges me, never looks my way at all. It's fine. Everyone's going crazy. He's playing to 20,000 people. Okay. A year after that, right, my wife and I and my kids go to the Margaritaville Resort in Florida on vacation, right? There's one in Hollywood, Florida, which, basically. It's beautiful. It's a great. Anyway, it's great resort.
Dan Le Batard
It has one of those surfing machines, the Flow Rider.
Stugots
The Flow Riders are awesome. I do. I do. And there's a lot you don't know about.
Dan Le Batard
I know quite the onion.
Stugots
The Flow Rider. The Flow Rider was great. I literally looked into, like, how much would it cost to get one in my backyard? And then it's like. It's crazy.
Dan Le Batard
Really. Sounds like.
Stugots
Like, it's like, you know, it's well over seven figures. Like, it's. Yeah, I was over.
Billy Gill
I was.
Stugots
Yes, yes, yes. They told me it was like, it's 15 to 2, and I'm like, really? What? Yeah. You're gonna put.
Dan Le Batard
Wait, you're gonna put one in your yard?
Stugots
Yeah, my backyard.
Billy Gill
I love this, Matt. I swear. I thought you said. So I got one.
Stugots
No, no, no, no, no.
Dan Le Batard
It's hard to justify.
Stugots
No, no, come on. No, but I thought, like, you know, could it cost maybe a little bit more than a pool? You know what I mean? Like, you know, kind of thing. And like, I don't know, you were.
Billy Gill
Thinking this $70,000 range, right?
Stugots
Exactly. Like, you know, finance it a little.
Dan Le Batard
Kind of explain that away.
Stugots
Yeah, yeah.
Dan Le Batard
Just like over a million dollars.
Stugots
I mean, I have five kids, you know. I mean, you're always looking for, you know, at the time. Anyway, whatever. Doesn't matter.
Dan Le Batard
Send them out there.
Stugots
Right? But the point is, anyway, so at. Randomly. Jimmy Buffett is at this resort, right? At the same time. And so he was doing some photo shoot, and they were shooting him at the Margarita resort. And so I see him, and so I just walk up to him and I'm like, hey, Jimmy.
Billy Gill
Hey.
Stugots
Matthew Berry from espn. I'm. I'm Hakey's friend. And without missing A beat. He shakes me and he goes, matthew, so great to see you again. Last time I think we saw it was front row at Barclays on New Year's Eve.
Billy Gill
Oh, my God. He noticed.
Stugots
Like, and I'm just.
Billy Gill
Like.
Stugots
He met me once for five minutes. Oh, a year and a half previously.
Billy Gill
Right.
Stugots
Never wreck and then. But like, and then, you know, again without missing a beat. And I let. Later, I'm talking to hakei and I'm like, dude, did, like, did you tell Jimmy I was going to be here? And he goes, no, I haven't talked to Jimmy probably in a week or so. But he goes, I will tell you, that story doesn't surprise me because when he has a mind like a steel trap, he remembers everything. And when he's on stage, he doesn't miss a beat. Like, he just sees everything. So that. I've heard stories like that before. So anyway, just, you know, very cool. Kind of crazy. So anyway, it's. Anyway, I'm a massive. I'm a crazy Buffett fan.
Billy Gill
You're really a kid at heart. You are Matt, right?
Stugots
I mean, dude, I mean, we're. Listen, I'm on TV wearing makeup, talking about fake football for a living.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Stugots
I mean, you know, like, my job is. Right, Exactly. It's ridiculous. They pay me stugotz to talk about fake football. Right. And, you know, and betting on sports. Right. And I mean.
Billy Gill
Right.
Stugots
All of us, I mean, we have stupid jobs, so if you can't be a kid in a candy store and like, again. And I'm so lucky, like, that experience that I just told you about, the ability to. To meet Jimmy, the. The ability to. To, you know, get good tickets, the ability to, like, afford good tickets all comes from this dumb place of a job that shouldn't even exist. And it does.
Billy Gill
And so it's like, it doesn't feel like work. Right, Right, exactly.
Stugots
It's incredibly lucky, and I'm truly blessed and, like, you know, so I cannot be happy.
Dan Le Batard
I want you to get a flow rider.
Stugots
Thank you.
Dan Le Batard
I want something I want.
Billy Gill
You deserve.
Dan Le Batard
I want you to get some big deal coming up.
Billy Gill
And it's like, you know what?
Dan Le Batard
I got to splurge. I'm getting a flow rider in my yard.
Stugots
I mean, believe me, because, like, we spent. Me and all my kids, like, we were on that every single day. They're not easy at all. But, like, we actually, like, we took. There's somebody there that. There's a flow rider instructor.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Stugots
Like, we took private lessons after the. After the, like the park I mean, whatever, after it closes, like, you can. You can, you know, get a. And so, like, we, like, the first night we all. The first day we all tried it, we all loved it. We all fell on our ass in the water. And then they're like, oh, well, if you want to get a lesson. And so, like, me and. Me and all five kids and my wife, like, we, we, you know, we got an instructor for an hour. And like, we. We just practiced, just the five of us, you know, and. And then we were, you know, competent. And like, literally every day for the rest of the week, we were there or whatever. We loved it.
Dan Le Batard
It's a dangerous game, Stu. Guys, I don't know if you've ever done it. You need to wear the right bathing suit. That thing could come flying out.
Billy Gill
I fell down, like, immediately. I needed lessons. Yeah, apparently. But I want to go give you the rope.
Stugots
Like. Like when I started. They give you the rope.
Dan Le Batard
Really, when you start.
Stugots
It's great. We had so much. Anyway, I looked into it, and then I was just like, all right, we're out.
Dan Le Batard
And the instructors make it seem like it's the simplest thing.
Billy Gill
So you do on vacation, though?
Stugots
Yeah, you try.
Billy Gill
Try to relax. I want to go on a berry family vacation. I mean, it's a. Your family sounds delightful.
Stugots
Thank you.
Billy Gill
Okay, we have Tammy and Billy next time.
Dan Le Batard
I don't think he wants us to go on his vacation, though. His vacation's to get away from people.
Stugots
No, stop it. We have. So I have five kids, and, you know, my. My sons are now grown adults. Like, I. They're 26, 24, 20. And then I have the twin daughters that are 13, so wide range. But, like, at this point now, it's like the 26 year old has a serious girlfriend. The 24 year old, like, so it's like when we go on vacation, it's like 12 people. Like, so at this point, I wouldn't even notice you guys are there. You might as well come along when we go. It's like, it's a whole. It's a traveling circus.
Billy Gill
You notice when you start paying for us. Yeah, maybe.
Stugots
Honestly, like, you know, my wife handles all the bills.
Billy Gill
I just, you know, Billy Matthew was nice enough to have me on his show, and I gave a ridiculous take.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Billy Gill
And he talked about it right when he walked up here because he's still reeling from it. And so go ahead and give Billy the take that I gave and. And then we'll go from there.
Dan Le Batard
I'm curious because I've caught on to A pattern where Steve, you guys will kind of repeat some of these from time to time. So I'm wondering if he gave you something fresh.
Billy Gill
I wrote it in a book.
Stugots
I mean, clearly Billy hasn't read the book.
Dan Le Batard
He published the book.
Billy Gill
I published the book. Yeah, fair enough. Well done.
Stugots
Exactly. You put your name on a book that somebody else wrote.
Cam Jordan
Right?
Stugots
Fair enough. Yeah, I would. So his take is that Brian Bilek is the greatest coach of all time. That Andy Reid and Bill Belichick shouldn't even be in this conversation, but that Brian Bilik is the greatest coach of all time. His argument is. And let me tell you what my take, my take on your take is. And then you, you, you correct me if I've gotten your take.
Billy Gill
I only said he was a better. I said do it with Trent Dilfer. That's what I said.
Stugots
Yeah, that was his basic take. Was that like, you know, like it's. Anyone can win a Super bowl with Tom Brady or Patrick Mahomes. Do it with Trent Dilfer.
Billy Gill
Right.
Stugots
The way Brian Billick did.
Billy Gill
Or Joe Gibbs's case, do it with three separate quarterbacks, none of them in the hall of Fame. How about that, huh?
Stugots
Right? So that was his argument, was that why is Andy Reid being talked about as potentially the greatest coach of all time? Bill Belichick is a mediocre coach without Tom Brady, Brian Bilek, he's going to agree with me.
Dan Le Batard
I full out agree.
Stugots
You guys are insane.
Dan Le Batard
Look, I've been flirting with this take, Matthew, and I want you to hear.
Billy Gill
Me out on this. You're working it out. I'm Matt.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah. George Kittle.
Stugots
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
More impressive than Travis Kelsey and Gronk, who has he had, huh?
Stugots
More impressive is, I don't know, because Gronk and Kelsey have been so clutch in such big moments. Kittle's awesome. Yeah, I love Kittle. He's unbelievable. And I will say that it's not really a fair comparison because Kittle, like Gronk, were, are also excellent run blockers. Unbelievable. Like, I don't think people appreciate how good a blocker Gronk was. And I don't think people understand how important Kittle is to the 49ers run game. Kelsey's not a blocker.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Stugots
Kelsey's a, you know, he's a big wide receiver.
Dan Le Batard
Kittle's numbers are bad.
Stugots
Kelsey. Kelsey's not a blocker.
Dan Le Batard
He can be so much better. Kittle's number.
Billy Gill
But to Matt's point, Kelsey's more like a wide receiver.
Stugots
Yeah, yeah, exactly. But he's been so clutch for so long. Just in, you know, in the biggest moments and just so good at just sort of finding spaces and, you know, a lot of it. We could spend hours and hours talking about like, it's so much about, you know, showing up on it. Who are your teammates, who are, you.
Dan Le Batard
Know, but do it with Garoppolo. You know what I mean?
Billy Gill
Now you're talking. Yeah. Now.
Stugots
Well, this, prior to this year, this was my argument on Terry McLaurin. I'm like, Terry McLaurin is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL, Ben. Like. And I'm like, look who's throwing him the ball. Right. And then he finally gets a quarterback this year.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Stugots
And he finally gets a quarterback this year.
Billy Gill
Right.
Dan Le Batard
This year for you. It was amazing.
Stugots
It was great. It was found money. But everyone's so upset and I'm like, what's that? What do you got?
Billy Gill
Our producer made the most useless contribution to this show in the, in the four year history of this show.
Stugots
That's saying something after.
Billy Gill
Yes, it is, it is. You're right. But after a game he's just blurted into a microphone, I feel good for Terry McLaurin. I just left it on our laps, you know, and I, I thought he was alone, but apparently he's not.
Stugots
No, no. He suffered for so long, you know, and this, this year was amazing. People were upset about the championship game. And I said, look, we won four games last year. Our preseason win total, this is the commanders was six and a half. If you told me. And we had been in the quarterback desert for years and years and years and years. And I said, if you told me before the year, hey, you guys are gonna, you guys are gonna win 14 games, you're gonna win two road playoff games, you're gonna, you are, you're going to discover that you have a franchise caliber quarterback, a superstar quarterback for the next 15 years. And the only downside is you get your ass kicked in the NFC championship. Where do I sign?
Billy Gill
Sign me up.
Stugots
Where do I sign right now? I mean, like, I think it was Peter Schrager that put this tweet out. I apologize if it wasn't. But you know about, in terms of rookie quarterbacks in the championship game and the defenses they had. Right, right. You know, Flacco, Roethlisberger, Sean King with Tampa Bay, Brock Purdy, they all had top three defenses, right. Jayden Daniels had defense, number 18.
Billy Gill
Wow. Yeah.
Stugots
And you know, I mean like he just, you know, I mean with all my argument is, is that Jaden Daniels this. What's so impressive? There's so many things impressive about Daniels year this year, but one of them is that he actually played with worse talent around him this year than he did his final year in college.
Billy Gill
Correct.
Stugots
Malik Neighbors and Brian Thomas his senior year in college.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Stugots
This year he had a Lamide, Zacchaeus and Diami Brown. Brown, right. He had Terry McLaurin and I mean, Zachary had an amazing year. Zachary was out of football last year.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Stugots
You know, so it's just like that, that he was able to do that. And credit to Cliff Kingsbury, credit to Dan Quinn, credit to the entire organization. But like Faith in five, man, that kid is split special.
Billy Gill
I know you don't typically take quarterbacks with the first overall pick in a fantasy draft, but because of his running ability and the upside, do you think he could go number one next year?
Stugots
I don't. I mean, I, I even me, I'm. I'm as homer as they come.
Billy Gill
Running's important.
Stugots
It is, but I'm a QB3.
Billy Gill
Right.
Stugots
I have, I have, I have Allen and Jackson over him.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Stugots
And then, but, and I think he will go in the top five of fantasy drafts next year. I think I could see putting people putting Burrow ahead of him. I could see people drafting Jalen Hurts ahead of him. But for me, Jaden Daniels is three. And I think the hype on him is going to be so real, especially because I think the commanders, obviously, they're going to fix the offensive line. They'll add another receiving weapon, whether it's T. Higgins, whether it's, you know, I've heard, you know, Godwin, maybe they'll be in on cup, who knows? But like, they'll add to that receiving core. You know, it's not just going to be Terry McLaurin next year.
Billy Gill
Billy's talking about all the time. Like, as you get deeper into the playoffs, there's only four teams. You're doing your weekly fantasy. It becomes more and more difficult. Like, how do you. Right.
Dan Le Batard
Because everyone's taking the same, Everyone has the same players. Especially when you do like a draft Kings, you have a budget.
Stugots
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
Taking the same players.
Stugots
That's where you have to go. Variance. That's where you have to.
Dan Le Batard
Right.
Stugots
Y. Exactly. You know, if you were doing like a, you know, a, A game for this one, like, you're like, oh, well, you know, hey, Juju, Smith, Schuster, you know, like, do we think Matt Collins was my guy?
Dan Le Batard
Oh, so cheap.
Stugots
He's so great.
Dan Le Batard
He finally had a game.
Stugots
Yeah, yeah. Matt Collins Is great.
Billy Gill
So it's in the margins, huh?
Stugots
Yeah, I think D. He'll be. He'll be semi popular, but I think Dallas Goddard has a big game on Super Bowl Sunday.
Billy Gill
You almost have to, like, take a flyer and just, you know, take Carson Wentz and maybe. No, you'd be the only one who has them. What if Mahomes goes down?
Stugots
That's a little bit crazy. But do you take like, oh, you're.
Billy Gill
Not going to win anyway, right?
Stugots
Do you take like, Jake Elliott?
Billy Gill
Right.
Stugots
Does it turn into a field goal battle? And Jake Elliott, who struggled throughout the, you know, playoffs and this year, does he suddenly, you know, come up clutch and kick five field goals?
Billy Gill
Right.
Stugots
Who knows? I want Billy's take, though, on your, Your Billock take. Your. Your Belichick overrated take.
Billy Gill
I hate to tell you. I think he agrees with it.
Dan Le Batard
I mean, I. I don't agree with it, but.
Billy Gill
But listen, Belichick's a great coach. I'm just saying the record without Brady is below 500.
Dan Le Batard
Brave of you to go out on that limit.
Billy Gill
I mean, it's hard to say. He's not. He benefited from a great quarterback.
Dan Le Batard
It may be in his book. That's like probably chapter 17 or something. People are not getting to that chapter. So, like that.
Old Spice Guy
That.
Dan Le Batard
I'm gonna give that fresh for you.
Stugots
Yeah, I appreciate that.
Dan Le Batard
I haven't heard it yet.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Stugots
I'll tell you a Belichick story. Okay, so. And I think that I was going to tell you too, but I think one actually you guys had on your. On your show. But the first one is, I remember I was talking to Teddy Brusky at espn, right? And I'm like, hey, Belichick, like, what is. You know, how brilliant is Belichick? Right? You know, kind of thing. And he told me a story. He says, my second week, he goes, my second week of my rookie year, we're on the road somewhere and I go to the practice field and I'm looking around and I'm like, hey, where's the play clock? Where's the play clock? And he's like, my position coach goes, oh, it's up there in the corner. He's like, why'd they move it? He goes, well, the stadium we're playing at this weekend, that's where the position. That's where the play clock is. They have it all the way up in the corner. So we're going to prac. You know, you want to practice knowing where the play clock is.
Billy Gill
Attention to detail, right? And.
Stugots
Attention to detail. And Teddy just said, throughout my career, there were plays that I missed. There were plays that I didn't, you know, take the right, right angle or that I didn't do well. But there was never a play I wasn't prepared for. There was never something that an offense did that I hadn't seen on film or been talked to before that week. He's like, I mean, like, who thinks of that? Like, oh, we should practice, play cock plays. And, and so that's that. And I was just like, oh, Damn. And Deb McCourty said the same thing. And I know he said it on some show and it might have been this one, I forget, but Deb McCourty told me the same thing, that, like their first game at, @metlife when he was playing the jets, he's just like, oh, the wind carries a ball. He goes, if you get it, if you're on a go route, whatever, just play back a little bit because the ball's going to get caught up in there. And that's exactly what happened. He ended up getting an interception. I, I think on Sanchez. And like, it just so, just, I.
Billy Gill
Don'T know, like, you love the attention to detail. Just like speaking to what a great coach he is. Yes.
Stugots
You know, you know, like, I'm a Patriots guy, I'm a commander's fan. Like, but like, I mean, you know, respect.
Billy Gill
Somehow I have major defend, Bill, but.
Stugots
Respect, like, give the man respect. But when Teddy told me that story, which is such a small little story, but I just thought that was like, yeah, yeah, yeah. Who would think of that, right?
Billy Gill
All right, your, your, your people are asking you to leave now. You have to get back to your NBC responsibility. Fantasy football Happy hour Fantasy life promoter, Matt.

Exactly right.
Stugots
Sponsorship.
Billy Gill
Matt, before you go, look at me in the eyes right now. I love you. I love you. All right, brother. There it is.
Stugots
Appreciate you guys.
Billy Gill
Thank you. Matt Teller, rooks with us here. Radio Row New Orleans. It is super bowl week. Chiefs and Eagles. The P and G Battle of the paddles. Tell us about what you're doing there, Taylor.
Taylor
Yeah. So png third annual Battle of the paddles event, going to be playing some ping pong with some of our favorite NFL players. I'm teamed up with Kirk Cousins. We're going up against Micah Parsons, Chris Olave, Drake May, who are also teamed up with other celebrity fans. And it's going to be good. Single elimination. We played to 11. Got a win by too. I'm excited. I'm not like an advanced ping pong player, but I feel like I am good enough to hold my own. But I'm hoping that Kirk Cousins just puts a team on his back and we can get the win in this one.
Billy Gill
All right, so do you know if Kirk is even good at ping pong?
Taylor
Like, honestly, I don't, but I am a Falcons fan. I am from Georgia, so one of my QBs. I have faith in him.
Billy Gill
Right.
Taylor
But honestly, something about Kirk strikes me as someone who's played ping pong in his day. He gives me that vibe.
Billy Gill
Really? And what would that be, if you don't mind me asking?
Taylor
I remember I interviewed Kirk and he said, you know, my teammates always say I have the dad swag, but I think my swag have no swag. And I can just see that person.
Billy Gill
Right.
Taylor
An expert, you know, on the ping pong table. That's how I envision Kirk. I think he's good at probably a lot of, like, oh, sports.
Billy Gill
So what have you been doing to prepare for this? You say you're like a novice amateur ping pong player. You're not good. You're not great. You're not terrible, though. Like, have you been practicing? What have you been doing?
Taylor
I've done some light practicing. I may have stopped at a bar or two.
Billy Gill
Right.
Taylor
I've learned that I have a much better backhand than I do forehand. There's something about the control, you know, when you're. When you're going that way with the. With the backhand. I need to improve my serve just a bit. Honestly. This is my thing with PNG Battle of the paddles, which obviously I'm super, super excited to be a part of it. And I want to give me pips. I Love this.
Billy Gill
So you need to learn how to slice. Okay? No topspin. Don't try to hit it hard. Just slice your backhand. Slice your forehead. Because what happens when you slice is the ball bounces and it comes back towards the net. Okay? Mm.
Taylor
That is. So what's the key to a good slice?
Billy Gill
So you have to, like, kind of go from up to down. Like this motion. You see the motion I'm making? You have to go up to down. Yes.
Stugots
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yes, yes.
Taylor
And if you have any more tips, please, because I really want to beat Micah.
Billy Gill
Okay, Wait, you want to be. Who'd you say you want to beat? Micah.
Taylor
Is talk trash.
Billy Gill
Right.
Taylor
Our existence.
Billy Gill
Okay. Who is the best ping. Who is the best ping pong player of the group? Do you know?
Taylor
I really don't know. I hope it's Kirk. I'll say that.
Billy Gill
It better be. This is so good. I love this. I love ping pong. So listen, sandpaper rackets, I don't know if you have those. Those help with velocity. And then the underspin. Okay, Underspin.
Old Spice Guy
Okay.
Taylor
So slice.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Taylor
Get you a sandpaper bracket.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Taylor
You're under spin.
Billy Gill
Yes. Yes. And again, the slice is all about the angle. So the ball is going to bounce this way as opposed to going right to them. Right. Make a move. Make them do something.
Taylor
You know, get mobile, get active.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Taylor
Yes.
Billy Gill
Are you. Are you helpful?
Taylor
And I'm not just saying that I.
Stugots
Will be.
Taylor
Watching the battles.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Taylor
Streaming on Complex's YouTube channel.
Billy Gill
Right.
Taylor
And you need to. The slice. Just know it was for you, Taylor.
Billy Gill
I'm telling you right now, I'm going to watch it. Okay? I am. I'm going to watch it. If I don't see a slice backhand out of you, I'm going to be very, very. I'm going to bring you back on, and I'm going to be very upset, and I'm going to talk to you about this, and I'm going to teach you how to do the slice backhand. Okay.
Taylor
All in on that. Now I'm like, okay, I just need to get. I need to get my slice over the neck. That's my fear now.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Taylor
Is it going to go all the way? But yes, I got you. I'll be working on it.
Billy Gill
Are you excited for the game this weekend?
Taylor
I'm so excited. I can't wait to be in the building. I love the energy of the super bowl, so it's going to be great. And of course, an amazing matchup. And coincidentally enough, the first PNG battle of the paddles was the same matchup. It was Eagles, Chiefs.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Taylor
A little deja vu. But I think that this year I'm going to win Battle of the paddles. Tbd.
Billy Gill
Okay, so this. So. So the first battle of the paddles, it was the Chiefs who won the Super Bowl. This year, you're saying you're going to win the battle of the paddles. Who's going to win the Super Bowl?
Taylor
I think. And I. So I am not a person. It's very clear to me that so many people are like, anti Chiefs. They don't want the Chiefs to win. I don't feel that way. I think it's really great that we get to watch greatness. And if they win, I'd be happy for this three peat and be there to watch history. So if Chiefs win, amazing. Good for them. I would personally love to see the Eagles win. So I. I will be sort of, you know, with my fan hat on, be rooting for the Eagles. I just love what Saquon has been able to do this year. Happy that Jalen is back in the Super Bowl. I just like the story of it. So I think. I think that's who I. Who I'm going to go with.
Billy Gill
Are you. Do you have Philadelphia ties? Are you?
Taylor
Well, Saquon. I'm very, very close with Saquon and his family.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Taylor
Since he first got into the league. And it's funny. So every year, obviously, saquon's birthday is February 9th, so this year he's playing the super bowl on his birthday. But every year, we always do, like, something really big with his family. Like three years ago, we all did Mexico. The other year, we just rented out the spot and did a big dinner.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Taylor
And after week one this year, I texted and said, I just have a feeling that this is going to be the first year. Then we are at the Super Bowl. What do you know? So I. I'm rooting for the Eagles for sure.
Billy Gill
Okay. That is an amazing story.
Taylor
So pretty crazy, right?
Billy Gill
Right?
Taylor
Well, yeah, I thought I saw the vision early.
Will Shields
Yeah.
Billy Gill
No, that's incredible. But since you're so close with him, was he as shocked as everyone else was when the Giants let him go and went to the Eagles? I mean, it's ridiculous.
Taylor
Well, I think. I think that at this rate, Saquon just, like, loves the story that he now has. Right?
Billy Gill
Right.
Taylor
You know, he went to this new team and just found new life. I interviewed him for our Thursday night football game that we had with the Eagles, and he was just like, you know, I didn't know what my value was going to be, and I didn't know what people thought my worth was going to be. And he was like, I've learned through this that all of those are just words like, what's. What one person thinks about you is different than what somebody else does.
Billy Gill
Sure.
Taylor
So he's just obviously all in with Philly and loves this circumstance and loves his teammate. But I mean, of course winning is very fun, so I'd love it too.
Billy Gill
Have you planned the birthday celebration, if indeed the Eagles win the super bowl on Sunday? Like the post birthday celebration?
Taylor
Yeah, I'm sure they have that all figured out, but I know it's a birthday, so regardless, there will be some sort of celebration of life. But I know his mind is mainly on winning that game. It's all. It's all his friends and family that care about the birthday.
Billy Gill
Right.
Taylor
He's like, I have a Super bowl to win.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Listen, the reason you saw it was because he's no longer on the Giants and you knew the Eagles had a legitimate shot of making it to a Super Bowl. So that's a good job out of you, Taylor. Okay.
Taylor
Like, hey, what can I say now, you know me winning battle of battles. I gotta manifest that.
Billy Gill
Yes, I know. You have to get out of here. We appreciate the time. PNG Battle of the paddles. One more time promoted on the way out. Yes.
Taylor
PNG Battle of the paddles. Tune in. Watch some of your favorite NFL players go against one another in a double single elimination tournament plan Some ping pong will be streaming on Complex's YouTube channel Wednesday at 7 Eastern Time.
Billy Gill
All right, you gave me a reason. You gave me a reason to watch. Slice. Backhand only. Not forehand, forehand. Little topspin backhand slice.
Taylor
Okay, got you.
Billy Gill
All right, all right. You're going to win it, Taylor. I feel it. All right, I do too.
Taylor
I appreciate the tip.
Billy Gill
You got it. Enjoy your week. Okay.
Taylor
You too.
Billy Gill
Okay, thank you, Taylor.

Billy Gill
It's a nice looking ring on your finger, sir.
Will Shields
You know, it fits sometimes. You know, sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. How you doing?
Billy Gill
Will Shields, one of the all time greats. How often, like percentage of time you have that ring on your finger? Ooh, that's a nice looking ring, Billy.
Will Shields
I would say 30.
Billy Gill
Yeah, just 30, Will.
Will Shields
You know, special occasions or just in case I walk into the bedroom, I pick it up and put it on.
Dan Le Batard
And then put it back down.
Billy Gill
Have you ever lost it?
Will Shields
No, actually I've had it stolen once, though.
Billy Gill
Really? What happened?
Will Shields
Yeah, man, we were, we were in Colorado and we were visiting my son and they actually broke into the car and stole it out of the car.
Billy Gill
Wow. Why'd you get it back? Yeah. But why'd you keep it in the car?
Will Shields
Well, I wasn't really thinking. I just gave a speech and all this other stuff. So I had my high school and all that other stuff and wasn't really thinking out there. So it happened.
Dan Le Batard
Right.
Billy Gill
Will is with us here on behalf of the NFL alumni and the Gear up campaign. Tell us what you're doing this week with with the NFL alumni.
Will Shields
Well, we're talking about Gear up for cancer. So basically we're trying to let everybody know once you reach the age of 45, you need to have your colonoscopy, which is one thing that most people don't want to talk about, but it is part of the cancer thing that you can actually screen for and that you can survive from. And I think most people don't realize it's just getting tested to find out what's going on. And that makes a big difference. And I think that's where we're talking about. Gear up for it. Make sure that once you're 45 or above, get your test done so that you know that you can you know, take care of your life. I know there's a lot of things out there, but this is one that I think is very important for our community.
Billy Gill
Are you impressed how, like the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, three kids. You're a former chief. Like how you're a former great. And I'm wondering, do you watch this team and do you marvel at them the way we do?
Will Shields
I do. I have fun watching.
Billy Gill
Really.
Will Shields
It's really cool. And because I'm closer to it, I guess. Yeah, it's a lot more fun because I can yell at the TV and look at it and say, you're a.
Billy Gill
Yeller at the TV when you watch football.
Old Spice Guy
Well, because you're like us.
Will Shields
Because I know know. Because you personally know some of the guys, right. And you're going, man, what did you do that?
Cam Jordan
Stop.
Dan Le Batard
You know, it's going to go on forever.
Will Shields
Oh, yeah, Anytime. If you love a game and love a sport, of course you are.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Will Shields
I mean, that's part of it. I mean, that's what the ebb and flow of it. Or you say, hey, I'm going to change the mojo. So I'm going to move from the kitchen to the living room.
Dan Le Batard
You don't do that.
Billy Gill
Well, I do it all the time. Whoever works for the Jets, I'm a Jet fan.
Dan Le Batard
There's only so much you can do.
Billy Gill
That face he just made.
Will Shields
There's only so much you can change on that. Got a new coach, which is awesome.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah, we'll see.
Billy Gill
So what are you yelling at the TV like? Are you yelling like. Like, give us an example, PI.
Will Shields
Like, no, I don't. You know, all of that stuff. I don't yell at. It's more or less watching technique. I watch certain things. And I was like, oh, man, how did you miss, you know, hey, how did you not see that guy doing this? Or how did you not see that rotation?
Billy Gill
But they're not as great as you, Will Shields.
Old Spice Guy
That's why.
Will Shields
Just because that's how I watch the game. And, you know, I'm watching my guards and my tackles, and I'm going, oh, that's a bad set. Oh, you didn't use your hands or this kind of stuff. You know, how do you recover?
Dan Le Batard
How tired are you of the question of the. The phantom penalties that Patrick benefits from? A little bit.
Will Shields
You know, there's certain things you can't control.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Will Shields
And that's the one thing about it. It's not like he's, hey, begging for it or what have you. I mean, you could make Anything. Spin the way you want to say it. Spin.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Will Shields
And you're looking at it and everybody's going, oh, well, he was asking the ref to let him know when he was near. I was like, no, he wasn't talking about the guy. He's talking about his. His offensive tackle.
Billy Gill
Right.
Will Shields
You know, it's just. And some people are knowledge based. It's understanding. And yeah, there are some penalties that you look at and be like, oh, yeah, that could have went either way.
Billy Gill
Right.
Will Shields
And I think when you're winning, it makes it harder. And I think that's the whole thing. Because it used to be us thinking about the Patriots.
Billy Gill
Yeah, exactly. Right. Well, we thought the same exact thing. Yes. And they thought about Jordan, the Bulls, too. Yeah. Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
I was wondering if the Chiefs fandom blinded that at all or if the football players, like, I don't know about this one.
Will Shields
Yeah, there's. Penalty is a penalty. And you look at it and you're going, ooh, yeah, I wouldn't have called that. I would have did this. And, you know, we're just as judgmental on our own teams. If you're really a player, you're just as judgmental on your own team as you on others.
Billy Gill
Right.
Will Shields
You know, and you're looking like, oh, man, he got away with that. Or this person did this or this, that and the other. Or you go, yeah, we did get a call.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Who's the. Was there a D lineman that kept you up at night? You were so great at your job. Was there a guy you had to face on Sunday where you're like, man, I'm not gonna sleep the night before?
Will Shields
There's a few of them. John Randall was the main one. That was crazy.
Billy Gill
That guy. Yeah.
Will Shields
Oh, man, he would give me fits all the time. He's one of those guys, you'd be like, I gotta face him this week. Let me. I gotta do some extra work. I gotta do some extra studying. I gotta figure all that good stuff out. But he was that guy that basically. Basically would give me fits. And he. My rookie year is when we first sort of met, right? And we're at training camp and he shows up and he's going, hey, man. He's talking back and forth of, hey, what's going on? And he's doing this little arm thing and all of that good stuff. So it was fun to just sit there. And I'm sitting there as a rookie going, I gotta block this. This is what's gonna happen. I was like, oh, my goodness, this is gonna be crazy. And so he. On that line, they had three hall of Famers.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Will Shields
So we got indoctrinated by them as our rookie year. So it says. But it was good because, like Chris.
Billy Gill
Dolman and those guys.
Stugots
Yeah.
Billy Gill
So.
Will Shields
But it set the tone for where I wanted to be.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Will Shields
For the rest of my career.
Billy Gill
Right. Yeah. Billy, this is interesting because Will Shields won the Walter Payton man of the Year award. And we have someone on our show, Greg Cody, a columnist for the Miami Herald, who made a very controversial statement saying he would rather win and most players would rather win the Super Bowl MVP as opposed to winning the Walter Payton man of the Year award.
Dan Le Batard
The most prestigious.
Billy Gill
Interesting. Yeah. What are your thoughts there?
Will Shields
Well, I think first and foremost, he wasn't.
Billy Gill
He wasn't trying to discount the importance of the award.
Cam Jordan
He didn't mention you specifically, and I get that.
Will Shields
But when you walk your way down that path and you look at it and you see how many people have actually made it to the Super Bowl.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Will Shields
How are you going to be that person that's going to win the MVP if you can't get there?
Billy Gill
True.
Will Shields
And that makes it hard. Where Walter Peyton, man of the Year, is about your community service, what you've done and how you build it and how you bring your teammates and your. And your community together.
Billy Gill
Right.
Will Shields
So there's difference within that parameter. So you might not win that mvp, you know, during the year, but for your community, you're the mvp, man.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Will Shields
You've actually done enough work to put in to where somebody noticed that you've done something enough and be able to make it happen and change somebody's life.
Billy Gill
You can't. Listen, you can't win a Super bowl unless you make it to the Super Bowl. He's right, Billy. You know what you could do? All you could do is be a good person.
Dan Le Batard
Exactly.
Billy Gill
You know, tell Greg Cody. You want to tell him to go bleep himself. What do you want to do? Go ahead, tell him. He'll take it.
Stugots
Okay.
Will Shields
I would. I wouldn't tell him that. I just say, hey, you know, you just got to understand where you're coming from. And we know that, hey, there's only so many teams that's going to get to the super bowl and be an mvp. It would be nice. It would be nice to have a Super bowl ring or whatever that is. I said, but there's only one ring given out to one team.
Billy Gill
Right.
Will Shields
Where the way Walter Payton, Manier. There's only one person that actually receives that every year, and it's for the work you did in your community. So I think both of them are valuable. But I think for me, I'm in. I'm happy with the one I got.
Billy Gill
Right.
Will Shields
I wish I would have gotten the other one. But you can only get what you can take.
Dan Le Batard
Well, hold on, hold on. Devil's advocate here. If you could trade man of the Year for Super bowl mvp, would you?
Will Shields
No.
Dan Le Batard
Oh, good. He's a good guy.
Billy Gill
He is a good guy.
Dan Le Batard
I like.
Billy Gill
That's why he won the Walter Payton man of the Year.
Dan Le Batard
Walter Payton man of the Year. Some people are out here.
Billy Gill
I'm going to tell Greg Cody to go bleep himself. Exactly right.
Dan Le Batard
People are out here selling mustard. They're selling different things. What's he saying? Hey, you should get screened for cancer. Yeah, he's a good guy.
Billy Gill
Tell us one more time. Well, on the way out, we appreciate it.
Will Shields
Well, we're here for the NFL alumni. And actually it's. It's NFL a. Gear up. Backslash cancer. So that you guys can actually go and get your screening. And we're actually coming to. Coming to here, actually, in the next couple of months and doing major screenings. So we have four different places that we're doing it right now. But we're also. We're going to take the show on the road so that everybody can get the screenings done, so that they can make sure that they're as healthy as they can be to live as long as you can.
Dan Le Batard
Colonoscopy road show.
Will Shields
Yes, sir.
Dan Le Batard
I like it. You're not performing, though.
Will Shields
No.
Billy Gill
Okay.
Will Shields
I'm already. I've already had mine. Sorry.
Stugots
I don't want to go anywhere.
Billy Gill
Are you taking the Eagles?
Will Shields
Come on, man. You should know.
Dan Le Batard
I can't believe someone stole that rig. They saw that rig. They saw your name on it. Like, you know what? Taking this is a good idea.
Billy Gill
No, the thing that shocks me more is he kept it in the car.
Dan Le Batard
If I go. If I'm. Look, I'm not a car.
Billy Gill
Hey.
Dan Le Batard
If I was.
Will Shields
It's one of those things that when you're packing stuff up and you got.
Dan Le Batard
My bags and everything else, not your fault.
Will Shields
It just stops. It sort of gets your brain.
Billy Gill
And you're like, right, hey, I'm gonna.
Will Shields
Go for a walk over here.
Dan Le Batard
You were the victim.
Will Shields
And I'm gonna wear it across, you know, as I go up this mountain and then come back down. You know, you never imagine, like, oh, I forgot something in there. And I was like, yep, I did.
Dan Le Batard
If I break into a car, I see that I'm closing the car. I'm trying to fix the window, however I got in, and I'm running the hell away.
Billy Gill
I feel like you go in for the car, you walk out with the ring. I mean, you don't want the car.
Will Shields
Anymore, you know, Never showed up again, so I don't think they got too much for it, so.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Will Shields, I have to tell you something, man. I love you.
Will Shields
Well, thank you. Appreciate it.
Billy Gill
Thank you for your time, sir.
Will Shields
No problem. Thank you, guys.
Billy Gill
We appreciate it. Keep up the good work and enjoy the. Enjoy the game this weekend.
Will Shields
I will.
Billy Gill
All right. Billy asked. Ed McCaffrey is with us, and I'm excited about this. And we'll talk to him About Self and McAffrey brands. He has Rocky Mountain Mustard, Protein Bites. He's. He's got a lot going on right now. Radio Rose super bowl week. He asked me if I wrote this book. And Billy responded, well, not exactly.
Dan Le Batard
You know.
Cam Jordan
The content is yours.
Dan Le Batard
It's a great.
Billy Gill
The cod. Thank, Ed. Yeah.
Cam Jordan
The content is yours.
Billy Gill
Thank you. The content is mine. Someone transcribed the content onto paper. Because I can't do that. I can't write.
Cam Jordan
I don't think you can even read my writing. I'm not a typer who. Who has time to go through spell check.
Billy Gill
That's exactly right.
Cam Jordan
You know, I'll give you the story and you just kind of put it down on the paper.
Dan Le Batard
Yes, Ed. Ed actually put it perfectly. Stug's moving forward. I think you should say this. He said you published a book.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
Which is exactly right. You published a book.
Billy Gill
Listen, it pays the same. I'm good with it.
Cam Jordan
Yeah, but still, like, life is about stories and storytelling, and the stories are yours. The content is yours.
Billy Gill
Thank you.
Cam Jordan
Somebody else can do the hard.
Stugots
We can.
Cam Jordan
You talk to them and let them write it down. Right.
Billy Gill
Listen. You get me? Yes, you get me. Tell us what you're doing here. Self and McCaffrey brands. Rocky Mountain Mustard. Yeah. Protein Bites. There's some bags right in front of us here. So how'd you get into this?
Cam Jordan
Thank you for asking.
Billy Gill
You got it.
Cam Jordan
God bless football and God bless McCaffrey Brands protein bites. I'm so proud of this. You know, I've been in the food product business for over 25 years. I had mustards and horseradish sauces, which I still sell to this day, that have been selling since the 90s. And I did it because a friend of mine introduced me to the idea of having food products. We also had at one time, Ed's end zone O's, which was a frosted Cheerio. The box was really, it was a cool box. It was a collectible. The quality of the cereal was just, okay, not great. But I was still playing. We were winning Super Bowls. It was a fun thing to do. We had Eddie Mac and Cheese.
Billy Gill
Oh, wow, right? Eddie Mac and Cheese. I love this.
Dan Le Batard
He was so proud of that Eddie Mac and Cheese.
Cam Jordan
It was good. Good, right? You know, but the, the mustard that we made was phenomenal. We, we, you know, I met this family that's been in the industry for 100 years. They came over from Germany and made spicy brown mustard and helped me come up with a recipe that I was proud to put my name on. And the mustard his sells even though now I'm, you know, Christian or Luke's dad or I'm the mustard guy. Kids because they have it in their fridge.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Cam Jordan
You know, it sold because it's a great product.
Billy Gill
Right?
Cam Jordan
That's how it sells for 25 years. So I stopped coaching a couple years ago. I partnered with my business partner to try to grow our business. So we expanded our lines of mustard and horseradish sauces, which you can buy either online or in King Soopers and Safeways and City markets in Colorado. But I wanted to create a healthy snack for everybody. I have four boys. My wife Lisa and I are in cars, driving them to practices and games, driving carpool at school. They. They always are hungry and need something of kids don't get their sleep or don't eat properly. You know, they're a handful and something that's easily digestible. I got a couple of kids that have some allergy issues. And so what is, you know, gluten free, non GMO healthy that tastes great? Because how many healthy foods taste awful? It's like you're chewing on cardboard, right? It's like you're chewing on the heel of your shoe and you can barely stomach them. So I'm like, what can every kid eat, regardless of allergies, that is healthy for you, but tastes great. And it took me forever to find a manufacturer that could create these because I think they're delicious. Now I want to hear what you guys have to say at some point during the week.
Dan Le Batard
Try them.
Cam Jordan
Positive feedback, right? But these, again, are super healthy, gluten free, non GMO vegan. They're made with all natural premium ingredients and they're very low calorie as well. But they have protein in them. A lot of the unhealthy snacks don't have any protein. I don't think people consume enough protein throughout the day.
Dan Le Batard
Here's the thing.
Cam Jordan
So incredibly important.
Dan Le Batard
Say non gmo. You say gluten free. All this stuff, and I'm like, I don't know. And then I open it. Sprinkles.
Billy Gill
Yes. I mean, like a little frosting. A little frosting. Yeah.
Cam Jordan
So. So the flavors.
Billy Gill
I just had, the chocolate chip cookie dough. I'm telling. I'm. Listen, I'm being serious.
Cam Jordan
Please be serious.
Billy Gill
These are delicious. They really are. Ed, I love you.
Cam Jordan
Thank you.
Billy Gill
He loves me.
Cam Jordan
You just sold a couple books.
Billy Gill
There you go.
Cam Jordan
Don't even give me one for free.
Stugots
I'm buying them online.
Cam Jordan
But, no, so far, we've gotten such great positive feedback. Everyone seems to like them, and I'm so excited because they actually taste good. I'm glad you like them as well. I'm sure eventually there'll be some curmudgeon that doesn't like them. But it's so hard to get a good tasting, healthy snack food. So you should still eat healthy breakfast, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. But that time before dinner, it's, like, still a couple hours away. Or during the show. Right. You can't throw down a cheesesteak here while you're trying to do your show.
Billy Gill
No.
Cam Jordan
Slop all over the place.
Billy Gill
No.
Cam Jordan
You know, feel bloated all day long. So this. This gives you a little pop, little energy throughout the day. You're eating healthy, you're doing what's right for your body, but it also tastes good and you're not chewing on cardboard.
Dan Le Batard
Of all the things you talked about today, I think the thing I'd most be proud of is being known as the Mustard Man.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Yeah.
Dan Le Batard
I think I would not.
Billy Gill
The father of two NFL players.
Dan Le Batard
He was an NFL player.
Billy Gill
It's not a big deal to him.
Cam Jordan
My goal is to one day be the Mustard King of Castle Rock, Colorado.
Dan Le Batard
Really?
Cam Jordan
I'm on my way.
Dan Le Batard
But how do we get you there?
Cam Jordan
Goals you got, you know, share them with you.
Dan Le Batard
Who's the present Mustard King?
Billy Gill
When you.
Cam Jordan
When you wrote, you shared it with the universe?
Billy Gill
Of course I did. Yes.
Cam Jordan
You know, so well, there's. There's some pretty stiff competition there in Colorado, but I'm. I'm gonna get there. I'm gonna get there.
Dan Le Batard
Completely unfamiliar.
Billy Gill
He doesn't want to name. He doesn't want to promote their brand.
Cam Jordan
With your endorsement and your support, I think I can get there.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah.
Cam Jordan
Yeah.
Billy Gill
You know, and I was thinking about this. Okay. The Golik family is right next to us. The Manning Family gets all this love. Why does the McCaffrey family. You played in the NFL, you won Super Bowls. You have two sons. Why are you not the first family of football?
Dan Le Batard
Huh?
Cam Jordan
Oh, we were talking about all the father and son and brother combinations. And the Matthews family has got uncles and fathers and players. There's so many great football families. I mean, I don't think you can beat the Manning brothers. Their dad played, and they both won two Super Bowls, Right?
Billy Gill
Yeah. But, you know, you got Arch coming up.
Cam Jordan
I'm surprised that more professional athletes don't have their kids that follow in their footsteps, because obviously, you know, if they're genetically blessed, it's probably a pat. Like, there's people in venture capital and private equity in Silicon Valley whose kids go into venture capital and private equity. You know, they grow up around it, and they fall in love with the sport. I think it's the greatest sport in the world. But I have four boys. My oldest son, Max, they're on this picture, by the way.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah, it's beautiful.
Billy Gill
Very nice.
Cam Jordan
Yeah. If it was nil, they could have cashed in in college.
Billy Gill
Well, maybe they still can.
Cam Jordan
My oldest son, Max, coaches for the Dolphins. I'm so proud of him. He played in the league five or six years. Fell in love with coaching. Christian, obviously, is playing with the 49ers. My son Dylan played at Michigan, played FBS football. I got to coach him a year. He's now a fisherman in Hilton Head Island.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Cam Jordan
You ever want to go fishing for some redfish in South Carolina, let me know. But he's. He helped.
Billy Gill
I'm gonna let you know. I think I will.
Cam Jordan
He's been part of this whole McCaffrey brand. He's no longer playing football, but he has really helped us develop this product. And as a fisherman, he's out on the boat all day long and very outdoorsy and hunting, fishing, you name it. And so he. He carries around, but he's been very helpful with the brand. It's been fun to work with him. And then Luke was a rookie with the Washington Commanders this season. So Lisa and I still travel to games every single single week.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Cam Jordan
Every single week, we're watching an NFL football game, and when we're not there in person, we're watching games on television. Sometimes we're at the game with an iPad, watching them at the same time.
Dan Le Batard
I'm reading between the lines. Here's two guys. Ed didn't say this. He'd never say this, but he kind of said, a little bit easy for Christian. He had all these genetics. I mean, all he had to do was fulfill his destiny.
Billy Gill
Right?
Dan Le Batard
Unlike Ed. Yes. Not only did Ed. Not Ed didn't have a leg up in the NFL, and he didn't have a leg up in the Mustang mustard industry either.
Billy Gill
Right.
Dan Le Batard
Exactly.
Billy Gill
Right.
Cam Jordan
Paving the way, baby. You know, we were talking about that. You're talking to all these NFL families, right? It's. It's a. It's a blessing and it's a curse. I mean, genetically, you got to be talented enough to play in the NFL. I don't care who you are, what your name is. If you're not physically gifted, you can't be one of the best.001% of the people at what you do. But it requires a lot of hard work and determination. Nobody in my family played pro sports.
Billy Gill
Right?
Cam Jordan
And I was the oldest of five kids. The expectations for me were zero.
Billy Gill
Right.
Cam Jordan
Like, do whatever you want. What do we care? Right? And. But when you. When you're the kid, they were just.
Billy Gill
Happy you weren't getting in trouble, right? Yes.
Cam Jordan
I got football for me was like cheap babysitting. Hey, we're going to practice. What? Practice football?
Billy Gill
Really?
Cam Jordan
I didn't know I was on a team.
Billy Gill
Coaches looking after you.
Cam Jordan
Drops me off with a water bottle, and you start running laps and what are we doing here? And it was. You got five kids, your parents, you got three kids in three years, and all of a sudden you're like, they got to be. Participate in activities, get out of the house. And it wasn't fun in the beginning, but I fell in love with it. But when you're. You know, my kids have pressures I never had, like these guys that you're talking about that grew up like the Manning brothers. Even their dad played in the NFL, who knew they were going to be as good as they were.
Billy Gill
Right?
Cam Jordan
But, you know, they're probably, when they were younger, always getting compared to their dad. Of course, if you're not an NFL player, then you didn't live up to expectations. I never had to deal with any of that. So. So I know a lot of pro athletes in football and other sports, they don't even want their kid to play the sport. I don't want them to have to endure that kind of criticism or pressure. And so Lisa and I never signed them up.
Billy Gill
Interesting.
Cam Jordan
We said, you have to do something. You're not going to sit around the house playing video games all day. But, like, my kids, be part of stem, you know, hey, join the chess team, play sports if you want, but you have to Be engaged, follow your passions. What is it you love to do? And so we made sure they had to do something, but. But we let him choose. So when they asked, it was my oldest son, Max, when he was 9, had a friend that played football. He's like, hey, can I sign up for football? And we're like, sure. We weren't going to prevent them from playing if that's what they wanted to do. And as soon as Christian saw Max playing, he. He couldn't get enough of it. And then his little brothers followed.
Billy Gill
As the father of an athlete who's playing at Northwestern lacrosse, women's lacrosse, which is the pinnacle of her sport, I imagine that watching your sons do it play football is more gratifying for you than you playing yourself. Correct.
Cam Jordan
You want more for your kids.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Cam Jordan
For yourself. Every parent I talk to, you got a son, you got a daughter. They're playing. That doesn't matter what sport it is. It doesn't matter if they're singers or actors. You want them to succeed so. Well, more than you've ever wanted it for yourself. And that's the. The blessing of being a parent. It's also one of the most challenging things because you can't do anything about it.
Billy Gill
It's hard. Yeah.
Cam Jordan
Win, lose, or draw, we're here for you. We love you. I'm not on the field. I can't make a play for you. Right, Mike? You know, one of the reasons my kids loved lacrosse is because I didn't play lacrosse.
Billy Gill
Really?
Cam Jordan
Yeah.
Billy Gill
They're like, so they want to do something dad didn't do, right?
Cam Jordan
Like, you don't even know what you're talking about. So then I started studying up, and I tried to give him one tip. I'm like, you gotta bend your knees and keep your arms straight when you're scooping. And, like, shut up.
Billy Gill
That's a very generic tip. Right.
Cam Jordan
You're ruining lacrosse for me, okay?
Dan Le Batard
I'm lucky in that I haven't been great at anything, so my children have nothing to compare themselves.
Billy Gill
Right. I'm track and field.
Dan Le Batard
Let me. Let me ask you something. So is there a rival condiment to mustard? So, like, let's say some of your children come out like Luke or Dylan. They say, you know what? We want to come after the throne, but we're going to go against mustard. Is ketchup, like, your rival?
Cam Jordan
No, it's not a rival. It's a completely different category.
Dan Le Batard
Okay.
Billy Gill
Oh, wow.
Cam Jordan
Yeah. Yeah. And. And there's some, you know, obviously, hindsight. Heinz is by far the Number one ketchup on the planet. But they got some pressure. Some compet. Well, yeah, some competitors jumped up and. And produced ketchup without corn syrup because of health concerns. So then Heinz copied them and did the same thing because you have to follow the trends and you want to be health conscious. But there's. I mean, think about it. There's so many. I'm not going to name the names. There's so many very popular mustard brands that are in every grocery store on the planet. Right. But what we've been able to do is one, create a phenomenal product like our spicy brown mustard. I would put next to any mustard on the planet. There's not a better spicy brown mustard on the planet Earth than what we produce, really. So it's. It's absolutely delicious. You can't beat it, which is why it's still sold after 25 years. But we've also been able to create a little bit of a niche in our business because the bigger brands don't always want to experiment with new flavors and new products. So we've created a chipotle mustard. You don't find a lot of chipotle mustards. We have a Sriracha. We have a squeeze bottle with horseradish sauce. It tastes delicious. We came out with a smoky horseradish, slightly different flavor. The bigger companies are making so much money and have so much success with their main brands, they don't need branch off into different categories. So we can be nimble and quick, which is what we have to do. We can provide. You know, our main retailer is King Soopers in Colorado, which is owned by Kroger and City Markets. So when they want to come up with a new product because of the changing demographics or for any other reason, we can work really quickly. So we're more like a speedboat than, you know, an aircraft carrier. And so that's been a very efficient and successful thing for us to do. So over the years, when they've needed honey mustard, we create a honey mustard Dijon. We created Dijon and. And we'll continue to do that. And I think that's where we fit in. It's tough to stand toe to toe with, you know, billion dollar corporations. We're a mom and pop small company, make healthy food, make good tasting food.
Billy Gill
Billy, what do you imagine Ed to be like? You know, we spent some time with him, like when he's on the sidelines or he's in the stands and he's watching his kids play football and something doesn't go their way. What do you imagine him to be like? Because he's right. It is difficult. Like this nine schools he's being right now.
Cam Jordan
Oh, thank you.
Billy Gill
I was.
Dan Le Batard
I didn't know where that was going.
Billy Gill
No, no. You're very cool. You're a great guy. Very relaxed. But are you relaxed when you're watching them?
Cam Jordan
I am. I am now, but I, you know, as a parent. Look, we're just talking parents.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Cam Jordan
You love your kid, you want them to succeed. There's probably going to be a time throughout their childhood where you're more relaxed and you're. You're saying and doing the right things, and you're there for them. You're not making it about you. And then there's probably a time, for whatever reason, where you get too intense.
Billy Gill
Right.
Cam Jordan
And I've gone through that. There was a time where I was sitting up in the stands and my wife's like, I'm not even going to.
Billy Gill
Sit next to you. Of course. Yes.
Cam Jordan
And you know what? In those moments, I realized me having any kind of anxiety, it's not helping them, but it's also pushing me away from my wife, who I love and maybe my other kids. Like, it's. It's challenging to be a parent. I respect parents. The number one thing you can do is love them and support them. They just want to know you're there for them no matter what happens. And one of the challenges for me, because I coached all my kids, is knowing when to take the coach's cap off.
Billy Gill
Right.
Cam Jordan
They don't need it on the right.
Billy Gill
Just be dad.
Cam Jordan
They don't need it at the dinner table. You know, if they ask me question. Now, I'm at the point where if they ask me, I'll volunteer advice, but if they do not ask me, I will not volunteer advice.
Billy Gill
Right. Makes sense. Do you ever wear the three super bowl rings just to, like, remind them, hey, Dad's got three of these.
Cam Jordan
You know what I don't have? Only recently, I wanted to buy Lombardi trophies and put them up in my house. And I've never displayed my rings because going back to what we said earlier, I never wanted them to feel the pressure of having to be a Super bowl champion, to be successful. So even to this day, I don't have my rings. I did bring one here because I got one for calling games on the radio as a member of the media.
Billy Gill
Wow. So you have four.
Cam Jordan
Gave me my fourth super bowl ring, calling the game. He didn't have to do that.
Billy Gill
That's very nice of him.
Cam Jordan
Very appreciative. So I'll wear that one because if I lose it, I can replace.
Billy Gill
Okay, but you tell people you have four rings, right?
Stugots
Yeah.
Billy Gill
Yes. Good.
Cam Jordan
I got one for each kid. They each get a ring.
Billy Gill
All right. We appreciate the time. One more time on the way out here, tell us again About Self and McCaffrey brands and these great products we just tried.
Cam Jordan
Yeah. Super Healthy Snack. I think you'll love them. Birthday cakes, chocolate chip, cookie dough, fudge brownie. You guys gave me your endorsement, so that's enough for me.
Billy Gill
Yep. And you're buying some books.
Cam Jordan
You know, put down the junk food. Pick up a healthy snack, McCaffrey Brands dot com. I hope you like them.
Billy Gill
Okay. And one more time. I love you. I love you.
Cam Jordan
Right back at you.
Billy Gill
Thank you. He doesn't really like. Oh, no. He said it.
Cam Jordan
I heard the word.
Billy Gill
I heard the words. I love you, too. Thank you, man.
Cam Jordan
And I'm buying your book.
Billy Gill
Okay. Wow. Two copies.
Cam Jordan
Congrats on publishing. Congrats on publishing. You're a great salesperson. Yes. I'll buy multiple copies. You know what?
Billy Gill
One for each kid this holiday.
Cam Jordan
I already know my white elephant gift.
Dan Le Batard
All right, well, that's not compliment.
Billy Gill
That's the perfect ending, though. Thank you, Ed. We appreciate it.
Dan Le Batard
Wow.
Billy Gill
What's up? I just bought and financed a car.
Dan Le Batard
Through Carvana in minutes.
Lucy

Lucy

Billy Gill
Cam Jordan, one of the really good guys at the NFL, one of the really good guys in general is joining us right now. I love you, man. What are you. What are you doing with Old Spice and what's in your head right now?
Old Spice Guy
When I think. Look, when I think about Old Spice, when I think about football in general, about the. The trench warfare that goes on between office alignment, defensive lineman coming in after practice, hot, sticky upset. You know, you're showering. And even after showers, you guys sort of got that like, I'm still sweating feeling. That's why you need something like a game changer, right? Old Spice is reinventing the game again. You know, we think about the deodorant game. You think about how you just apply. No, no, no. This is a sweat absorbing, total Body dry filled deodorant here where you're talking about. You can use it anywhere. 24, 7. Total body freshness. I mean, pits, sure. Chest. Yeah. You know, lower back, most likely for a.
Billy Gill
You have some in your pocket.
Old Spice Guy
I mean, I'm not going to say that I just keep one on me, but I keep one on me. Mandarin sandalwood. It is what it is. It gives you a nice little freshness. You know, I've been walking, somebody was like, oh, you smell nice. I was like, don't worry, sweetheart, it's just mandarin sandalwood.
Dan Le Batard
Is it weird if I smell it?
Old Spice Guy
No, check it out, check it out. That's what I'm saying. It's gonna give you like a, like. Oh, is that. It's almost Mojito esque.
Billy Gill
Really?
Dan Le Batard
I'm just saying take a bite of this. Two guys take a bite.
Billy Gill
Okay, here we go. Take a bite. Yummy.
Old Spice Guy
That's what I'm saying. It's nice. I mean, when you think about total body freshness, you think about what. What you want to do coming off of a great game. You want to smell nice as well. And that's going to give it to you.
Billy Gill
Delightful. Yeah.
Old Spice Guy
Apply anywhere. See as you see fit.
Dan Le Batard
What's this? This massive box?
Old Spice Guy
Come on, man. It's not a massive box. This is my guy I'm walking around with.
Dan Le Batard
This is massive. You were massive.
Billy Gill
Massive box. To us, Billy. To him it's just, you know, it's.
Old Spice Guy
Just a guy this old. It's a. The wise Old Spice guy.
Billy Gill
Right?
Old Spice Guy
You know, can Old Spice total body deodorant may or may not make my. My dad jokes hit a little bit better.
Billy Gill
And there we have.
Old Spice Guy
Why ask this guy.
Dan Le Batard
Hello, how are you?
Old Spice Guy
Who do we have winning this game? You're right.
Dan Le Batard
Old Spice guy. You want to come sit down with us?
Billy Gill
Yeah. Come on.
Dan Le Batard
Come on.
Billy Gill
Here we go. Make my dreams come true.
Old Spice Guy
Yeah, yeah, yeah, for sure. I've always want to be like. And I'm on a horse. Gosh darn it.
Billy Gill
You wanted to do that.
Old Spice Guy
Yeah, I've always.
Billy Gill
I've always wanted on a horse.
Dan Le Batard
Have you met him before?
Old Spice Guy
Absolutely not. Who has met the myth? You don't meet myths.
Billy Gill
It's like, geez, I gotta tell you, this is very exciting. I've don't. I've done like 20 Super Bowls. I've never been more nervous or excited for a guest to sit down.
Old Spice Guy
No.
Billy Gill
Than I am right now. I mean, this is amazing. Radio row Super Bowl.
Old Spice Guy
You didn't ride a horse in and I'm like. I'm sort of like. That's why they say never meet your heroes.
Dan Le Batard
Yeah. Well, we're meeting him today. Hi, Old Spice Guy. How are you?
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Well, hello.
Billy Gill
Oh, boy. Of course. He talks like that.
Old Spice Guy
Of course. The voice I've always wanted.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Good to see. See you, gentlemen.
Billy Gill
Good to see you.
Old Spice Guy
What do we have here?
Billy Gill
You tell us.
Old Spice Guy
You know, it's. It's mini you in a box. You know, when we say Old Spice Guy now, I sort of want to throw this one away because we have the. The Old Spice Guy.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
The question, is he fresh?
Old Spice Guy
That's a foul proposition. Which we both know the answer is clearly yes.
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Old Spice Guy
When you think. When you think about the bourbon cherry scents that also have the new scented flavors. Come on, you. You're going to have to. To think that we're always going to stay fresh. You have to stay fresh. You never have to get fresh.
Billy Gill
Right? Cam Jordan is the best pitch man I have ever.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
He's gunning for my job.
Billy Gill
No, no, he said he wants your job now.
Old Spice Guy
I'm on a horse. I've always wanted to be the Old Spice Guy.
Billy Gill
What is the coolest guy, Coolest thing about being the Old Spice Guy?
Old Spice Guy
Oh, man, nobody knows your first name because that's true. Old first name, last name guy.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Probably horse horseback riding, you know, and, and, and staying fresh.
Billy Gill
Oh, my God. The voice.
Old Spice Guy
Swan voice.
Billy Gill
The voice.
Stugots
Yes.
Old Spice Guy
Swan dive. Into total body freshness.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Into total body freshness.
Cam Jordan
Yes.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Cam, you've nailed it once again.
Billy Gill
Wait, so we can ask questions about the Super Bowl?
Old Spice Guy
Absolutely.
Billy Gill
And we'll get an answer from the Old Spice guys in the box. Okay, that's him. Will Patrick Mahomes win Super bowl mvp?
Old Spice Guy
Here, let me bring him up to the.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Smells like a yes to me.
Billy Gill
Oh, wow.
Old Spice Guy
That was easy.
Billy Gill
Wow.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
You heard it from the guy on the horse's mouth.
Old Spice Guy
Wise old sage of an Old Spice Guy.
Billy Gill
How'd you like the process of becoming the Old Spice Guy? How did that happen for you? Like, how many people wanted it besides Cam?
Old Spice Guy
I mean, I also wanted to be Green Lantern and they just gave that.
Billy Gill
Away to a British guy.
Old Spice Guy
John Stewart is an American military man and we gave it away to a British guy. Undoubtedly. He has green eyes.
Billy Gill
So good.
Old Spice Guy
Kudos to him.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
There. There was a lot of people who were in that audition room, but. But yeah, it was, it was. It was quite a. Quite a few bare chested men running around that day.
Billy Gill
You were the best of them, though. Yeah.
Old Spice Guy
Yeah, absolutely. I just feel like, you know. Yeah. When you, when you think about New Orleans, you think about good times, and you think about, you know, hand grenades and the hurricane drinks, right? And, of course, King Cake, right? When I think. When I think about Total Body Spice, do I think about swagger?
Stugots
Mvp?
Old Spice Guy
Do I think about cherry Cherry bourbon or Man Manor sandalwood? I think about the Old Spice guy.
Billy Gill
V. He's coming for you, man. I don't know.
Old Spice Guy
Then I'd be a Old Spice guy. Nobody wants to be A when you.
Stugots
Can be B, right?
Billy Gill
Do you have a question for yourself? Yes.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Yeah. Oh, I do.
Billy Gill
I do. Okay. Me.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Hello, me. Is Cam coming for my job?
Old Spice Guy
Oh, the answer is no.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Old Spice Guy
Well, it's crazy.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
There was no.
Old Spice Guy
There was no. There was no. Like. It's like he saw the inner depths of my soul. I didn't apply enough deodorant to cover me. Yeah, that's on me.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
You felt your vibe.
Billy Gill
Cam, what are, like, the two or three things we have to do if we're staying in New Orleans this week?
Old Spice Guy
Come on.
Billy Gill
The.
Old Spice Guy
The first thing you have to do other than marvel at my city is go find yourself a great king cake. You know, you're gonna. You Marty Gr. Season and upon us, right? So, of course it's, you know, finding a great, great place you can get crawfish at. That's. That's fine for me. I'm a desserts guy, so King cake is right up there. Ooey gooey cake elite. Go get you a prawling.
Billy Gill
Really?
Old Spice Guy
You know. You know, if you like Confectioner Sweet. If I'm not gonna say you're at the age where you. You probably enjoy candy corn.
Billy Gill
I love candy.
Old Spice Guy
I knew it.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Underrated.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
I like the ooey gooey cake myself.
Billy Gill
You're just, like, saying ooey gooey. Who doesn't.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Who doesn't like finger licking good sweets?
Old Spice Guy
Absolutely. So, yeah, if you're a candy corn guy, you're gonna love a. Probably, you know, right? So those are my top three sweets. You got to go. Go get you some.
Dan Le Batard
What is the age of a candy corn guy? You said he looks like he's.
Old Spice Guy
Again, it's that age. It's like, you know. You know how, like, the emotion, the EQ of kids is. Is so much higher of a threshold than it is when we were growing up. When I was growing up. When you guys were growing up. Yeah, it's just like, the sweets, you know, there's an age limit. Like, some guys will never know. Kids born after 2000 are never going to know about charts. And chews Boston baked beans and the likes of candy corn.
Billy Gill
Yeah. You know, you love those old school candy shops.
Old Spice Guy
I grew up watching my parents eat those types of things, and I was like, baked beans. And they'll be like, nobody wants baked Boston candy beans as a candy.
Dan Le Batard
Candy corn is some of the worst.
Billy Gill
Candy in the world.
Dan Le Batard
The worst.
Old Spice Guy
The worst candy in the world. Like, just go get you a sugar packing.
Billy Gill
My guy. Right? Chalk anything but candy corn, obviously. Each job.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Oh, the things they'll never know.
Billy Gill
Can you stay here the entire day? I just chime in just like.
Old Spice Guy
Just like that.
Billy Gill
Oh, that's so good. What's the favorite word for you to say with that incredible voice? I know there's a favorite word in there. Yeah, here we go.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
I'm on a horse.
Billy Gill
Or.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Hello. Hello, ladies. Hello, gentlemen.
Old Spice Guy
I can't even.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Hello, ladies.
Old Spice Guy
No, my voice doesn't even. Yeah, Gosh darn it. When I grew up and I looked myself in the mirror, I was like, I'm gonna have the most incredible voice ever. I'm 6, 4, 275 lbs. As an 18, as a 17 year old, and as a senior in high school, and I was like, hell, yeah, the voice is coming. And then, like, just think about when it dropped. Voice dropped. So this is where it dropped to.
Billy Gill
We were.
Old Spice Guy
We were up here for a while. Sounded like Mickey Mouse. And I was like, this is not. This is not.
Billy Gill
Cam. Are you complaining because you got a lot of gifts when you were born again?
Old Spice Guy
God gives all the soldiers, you know, every gift, and I got a lot.
Billy Gill
Of them, but we didn't have the one you wanted.
Old Spice Guy
Yeah, we didn't catch a Calais Campbell. We didn't catch the old spicy. Like, I can't even get that low.
Stugots
Yes.
Billy Gill
How you doing?
Old Spice Guy
He's like, yes. Jesus.
Billy Gill
He's a friendly monster. Yeah.
Old Spice Guy
Gosh darn it.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Tiny me has a bigger chest than real me.
Billy Gill
I don't know about that.
Old Spice Guy
No, no, about that one.
Billy Gill
The.
Old Spice Guy
The pecs are percolating, you know?
Billy Gill
Wait, would you rather be the old Spice guy or be you? I mean, it seems like you'd rather be him.
Old Spice Guy
I. I mean, there's. That's a conflict of interest. Wait, how many kids do you have?
Billy Gill
Two.
Dan Le Batard
I would.
Billy Gill
I might take him.
Old Spice Guy
I've got four. His house seems a little bit cleaner. Yeah. When you. When you think about it, you know.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Yes, yes. We all know about the terrible twos.
Old Spice Guy
Two. Two is easy.
Will Shields
It's three.
Old Spice Guy
When they get the. Like, a conscientious two, they're just like, no, no, no. Three is like, no, because I said so. Why? If this was, if this was 1990s when I was growing up, I would have been cop back on you 2000. What do we say? Hey, you don't say that. Go to the corner, come back, breathe. We do breathing exercises.
Dan Le Batard
And candy corn.
Old Spice Guy
Yeah, yeah. We punish them with candy corn.
Billy Gill
You should. That's what you have.
Old Spice Guy
Oh, you like candy, huh? Dad's brought something for you.
Dan Le Batard
That's, that's no punishment.
Billy Gill
Say that again.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
I, I punish them with body wash. Bam. Staying clean.
Old Spice Guy
Yeah. Yeah.
Billy Gill
Don't leave me the entire day. Total body.
Old Spice Guy
I'll say I reward them. I'm like, and who wants to smell like mandarin sandalwood? Any takers? Knowing good and well, you know, my nine year old is like, yeah, I love smelling clean. You know, he's, he gets dirty and at the same time he's like, dad, what are we wearing? I'm like, wow. What are we wearing? Choose one.
Billy Gill
Bo.
Old Spice Guy
Is it MVP is a swagger, or is it now Cherry bourbon?
Billy Gill
Yeah.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Is it a towel? Or is it a shirt draped around your shoulders?
Dan Le Batard
What is that around your shoulder?
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
This is my shirt that I, that I. That I never wear.
Billy Gill
Yes.
Dan Le Batard
Why do you own one?
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
To put it around my neck.
Billy Gill

Old Spice Guy (Voice)
How dare you.
Billy Gill
Just in case you need it, or just like you'll never need it?
Old Spice Guy
All heroes need a cape.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Moments like now.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Does anyone have any more questions for the man in the box? Come on.
Old Spice Guy
Come on.
Billy Gill
Will Nick Sirianni be fired after this game?
Dan Le Batard
Yeah. Win or lose. Win or lose, my fresh friend, he.
Old Spice Guy
Said, but of course, my fresh friend. It's tough.
Billy Gill

Dan Le Batard

Dan Le Batard
How would you eliminate the Old Spice Guy if you needed to? Yeah.
Billy Gill
Wow. Through.
Old Spice Guy

I think he's calling you Old Spice Guy doesn't age.
Billy Gill
Yeah. Damn it.
Old Spice Guy
Didn't think about that one.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
I thought we were going to play full contact pickle ball.
Old Spice Guy
I am. And now you're speaking my realm. You know, I drop it in the kitchen.
Billy Gill
Oh, my God. I would ask you about football, but who cares?
Old Spice Guy
Yes, there's a team. There's two teams playing on Sunday. Yes. It's going to be a high scoring game. The Old Spice guy told me so. No, you don't have to be nervous about it because, again, if you have a question, you can always apply the Total Body Body deodorant that is Old Spice, as well as ask my guy if you have a real question.
Old Spice Guy (Voice)
Let's just be real. Sweat happens, but so does total body preciousness.
